hi uh, i really enjoy your art and your sewing, I'm even subbed over on youtube, but I jsut wanna say thanks for being you. It's really cool to learn you're trans, and it's revitalizing my desire to get back into historic sewing. I didn't know if or how big the trans communityw as in the recreation sewing, but knowing we're out there in this community too is really assuring. I'm super excited to start working on patterns and styles I haven't been able to do before. Thank you for all you do!
Hello, thank you!! There are quite a lot of trans people who are into historical sewing! I can't think of very many here on tumblr - there's @rowzien who does lovely early 19th century stuff, and I'm sure plenty of trans costuming people will say "same hat!" in the comments of this post.
There are a lot more that I know of on instagram, so I'll just list a bunch off. (I pretty much never look at my instagram feed and don't remember the names of most of the people I follow, let alone their genders, so I likely missed some but ah well.) Some of these are more cosplay, larp, or vintage focused accounts, but there's some sort of sewing and/or costuming on all of them.
jonesyollie (friend who made the timesheet from the previous post!), bequeermakestuff, evilqueenbeecosplays (sadly there aren't many ladies in this post, but I'm sure there are more out there!), ora_lin (they sell patterns!), noodle.stitch, ashlgcostumes (they have a lot of youtube videos and a nice speaking voice), rose_prince_lee, qtcostumer, enby.vintage, kiyoteacups, transcending_time_costuming, slightly_teddy (he's also on tumblr but hasn't posted in ages), angryhistoryguy (he once said in a facebook comment that he has so many transmasc reenactor friends that they could make a Monstrous Regiment), woodsmokeandwords, and marlowelune (SUCH good historical/fantasy everyday clothes, agh! love their wardrobe and illustrations!).
Honourable mention to matthewpcarlsen and dario_princiotta, who haven't put pronouns in their bios and I don't want to speculate on anyone's gender, but it's some good gender juice either way. Matthew pairs a bushy moustache with perfectly fitted Victorian gowns and looks amazing in them, and Dario is really into tightlacing and weird sculptural corsetry.
This is, alas, not a particularly diverse list of people. Like the costuming community at large, it skews towards white and afab, but that does seem to be gradually improving over the years - I certainly see a lot more people of colour doing historical costuming now than I did a decade ago. (I've been into historical sewing since approximately 2010).
As your ask demonstrates, when people don't see themselves represented in a space they're more likely to avoid it/assume it's not for them, which is the entire reason I occasionally mention being trans in my posts!

Writer Introduction
Greetings, fellow writers of Tumblr! I thought I should introduce myself, as I have been lurking quietly for a while now, and you all seem like excellent writers with interesting projects.
About Me
I’m a teenage English girl, with a passion for history, literature, the odd cosplay, and storytelling. I’ve been making up roleplays with myself since I was small, and my stories have always kept me company.
I’ve grown up reading Shakespeare since I was seven, as well as the more traditional children’s classics, and have since found that my passions lie in fantasy worlds, historical fiction, and detective fiction/murder mysteries, although I like to dabble in all genres if I get the chance.
My WIPs
I am currently in the middle of writing two novels, a short story that has accidentally turned into a novella, and various short stories, flashfiction and any other bits and pieces that take my fancy.
The Jack of Diamonds
This is a historical fiction set in 1890s London, and focuses on the criminal classes, and the anonymity of personal and public life that is so prevalent across Late-Victorian Literature.
The plot centres around a young Aristocrat called Philip Devlin, and the double life he leads as London’s most infamous criminal. It’s still very much half formed, so I can’t be amazingly accurate about everything that’s in it, but it might be your cup of tea if you like:
Close Male Friendships that fall apart unexpectedly.
A strong female character who doesn’t fall in love with the protagonist.
The adventure/mystery style of Conan Doyle and Maurice LeBlanc.
And the inevitable morally grey Venetian of all good stories.
Echoes of Eternity (Working title)
This is a fantasy/folklore work, centred around the Arthurian legends, and has a time travel/time slip element to it. There is also an exploration of power and the damage it causes, as well as how death affects the living.
This is still mostly at a world-building stage, although I have written the odd scene out, so the plot is still fairly nebulous, but it follows the dual paths of a young mage called Amser from Arthurian times, and the story of Rose and Jay Fleetwood, as they attempt to right the wrongs of the past together. This might be up your street if you like:
A Morally Grey protagonist with dubious motives.
The magic of King Arthur and his knights.
Magic systems similar to those used in The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series by Michael Scott.
And randomly angry ghosts leading to time travelling quests
A Monstrous Regiment of Women
This is historical fiction meets fanfiction, with a good helping of biographical info thrown in. It’s set during the Napoleonic Wars, and examines the place of women in that society, the psychological effects of war, and how the Napoleonic Wars shaped Europe.
I Have reimagined Napoleon Bonaparte and the Duke of Wellington as women, Letizia Bonaparte and Francis Wellesley respectively, and have imagined how their lives would look if they had still enlisted in the military. This is probably the most complete of my major WIPs, as all the information and plot is already available in history books, I just need to jig it around. You might like this if you enjoy:
Stories with good depictions of battles in them.
Regency Literature, or pastiches like Johnathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke.
Strong female protagonists acting outside societal norms.
Sweeping story arcs that cover a character in a range of situations and moods.
Other Bits and Pieces
I often write short stories, and most of them end up on my AO3 account. It’s a rather eclectic mix, with a lot of crossovers, but I enjoy writing them a lot. You can find it below:
I am more than up for being sent asks, participating in tag games etc, and love writing socially. I’m also happy to share any tips or prompts I think up, although those will be very sporadic given all my writing to date has been mostly self-governed. Generally speaking I’m somewhat uncomfortable with NSFW type prompts, asks etc, so avoid those if possible.
Finally, I look forward to chatting to you all and sharing my creations. Happy writing everyone!

Ironically Cheery Littlebottom is who I wanna cosplay once I’ve had top surgery…
and Sergeant Jackrum? I wanna be him when I grow up

Share some series / books you think should have more fans!
I don't know, I don't really consume all that much media these days, and I'm even more hesitant to dip my toes into any fandom online. It's scary out there.
But uhhh...
Have you read Discworld yet? Good series, I like it. Specially the city watch books, and the Moist von Lipwig ones, also Monstrous Regiment has a special place in my heart.
I quite like Making Comics by Scott McCloud.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit is an animation classic. (every now and then I like to remind myself I am indeed a traditionally trained animator)
Art books, in general. More cartoons should have an art book of them, I want to collect more of them and that would require there to be interest and a market for them.
(Also I will forever be sad that the She-ra reboot on Netflix ended its run right around when the plague shut down the Finnish convention scene, I would have loved to see what kinds of cosplays there could have been.)
For really old school stuff I'd recommend Black Jack by Osamu Tezuka, but I heard the manga is really hard to come by in English these days.
Blacksad, perhaps? The stories might not be that much my thing, just not into noir, but the artwork in the comics is *chef's kiss*
I quite like many of the comics by JP Ahonen, though I'm not sure how available they are outside of Finland. I think there are English translations of some?
Lately I've been really into Critical Role, specially their third campaign, but I don't think they really need me to advertise them.
I'm probably forgetting things, but that's at least the easiest to eyeball from my bookshelf, and I'm too lazy to check my Netflix watch list.
