I'm currently in a clinic for physical rehabilitation in the heart of the beautiful Montafon area, hoping that the physiotherapists here might find something to help in reducing my back-pain.

During therapy-free time I'm trying to squeeze in some walks in the area, but the first week of my stay the weather god tried to keep me indoors. It was very doomy and gloomy outside.

Just in time for the weekend, the sun decided to grace us with her presence, and so I could go on a extended walk on Saturday afternoon.

The Montafon area is known for its many skiing resorts with garanteed snow for most of the winter. Well, this year is different with January having been unusually warm with rain rather than snow. The few slopes on which one can ski down into the valley have to be maintained with artificial snow, and look rather forlorn in their green-ish surroundings.

So langsam wird es wieder wärmer und wir haben so richtig Lust auf den Frühling und den Sommer. Wir wollen unter anderem Klettern gehen oder eine Klettersteig-Tour machen, wie hier im Montafon. Das war im Sommer 2021 bei einem Klettersteig-Kurs, welchen man im @meinmontafon machen kann. Für uns eine sehr coole Erfahrung mit den Kids. Wir haben von unserem Kletterführer so viel gelernt und wichtige Tricks und Kniffe beigebracht bekommen. Nun sind wir gespannt, was uns der Frühling und Sommer 2023 bringt und was wir alles erleben dürfen. Unter anderem beim Klettern und bei Klettersteig-Touren. I still owe you the last hike I was able to do in the beautiful Montafon area last February.

Together with my cousin, who happens to live in the Montafon area, I explored a trail to Bartholomäberg that was new to my cousin as well (but not to her husband, as he recommended we take this route).

Bartholomäberg is a quaint former mining village located at app. 1000 m of altitude at the one spot that gets the most hours of sunshine in the whole area. It’s history reaches back 4000 years, as archeological findings show.

We walked up there on a day far too warm for the season, and I quickly had to shed my outer layers. Hiking in shirtsleeves at the beginning of February in the Alps – the climate catastrophe sends greetings.
