Music Tag Game 🎶
Rules Music taste is a very telling thing. Create a new post and name 1-5 your favourite songs in each category. Don't be afraid to be too obvious! Tag users you want to get to know better. Don't forget to have fun :)
Last songs you listened to: Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad - Def Leppard, The Funny Feeling - Phoebe Bridgers, Cathy Come Home - Flyte, Friday I'm In Love - The Cure
Best songs from your favourite TV show/movie: oh gosh, I put Peaky Blinders Soundtrack on a pedestal, so I'll have to narrow my choice to 3 songs: All My Tears - Ane Brun, Strange Weather - Anna Calvi, David Byrne, Abattoir Blues - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and all the other songs that remain unnamed xD
Favourite songs about love (happy or not): Lover - Taylor Swift ft. Shawn Mendes, I Can't Help Falling In Love With You - Elvis Presley, Heart Like Yours - Willamette Stone, This - Ed Sheeran and much much more
Songs that could be the soundtrack to your life: Alibi - 30 Seconds to Mars
Songs that always make you want to dance: Let's Dance - David Bowie, Real Love Baby - Father John Misty, Hips Don't Lie - Shakira (yes, guilty)
Songs that always make you want to cry: I'm Ok - Christina Aguilera, Run - Snow Patrol, Dark Paradise - Lana Del Rey
Songs with the best lyrics: The Animals Were Gone / Accidental Babies - Damien Rice (he's very eloquent about love and pain, no wonder cos' he's Irish), My Tears Ricochet / The Lakes - Taylor Swift, I guess I can just write these two names. Amazing songwriters.
Songs you want to listen to when you're alone in the car: Girlfriend (Dr. Luke Mix) - Avril Lavigne ft. Lil Mama, I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor. And it doesn't even matter I don't have a car!
Songs that bring you back to yourself when your life is a mess: Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Marvin Gaye, Tammi Terrell and almost any Taylor Swift's song
Favourite instrumental songs: Spiegel im Spiegel (Version for Violin and Piano) - Vladimir Spivakov & Sergej Bezrodny, Rise - Hans Zimmer, New Moon - Alexandre Desplat, Una Mattina - Ludovico Einaudi, Arrival Of The Birds - The Cinematic Orchestra
Songs that make you feel like you're invincible and very cool: Lose Yourself - Eminem (yes!), Woman - Harry Styles, but I think I just need to be happy to feel myself invincible
Guilty pleasure songs you're embarrassed to admit that you like: I'm too old to care about stuff like that, but let's say Famous - Kanye West
Songs that can describe your current mood: Vienna - Billy Joel or People Help The People - Birdy
If you wanted to be serenaded, what songs would you prefer: Love of My Life - Queen, Fly Me To The Moon - Frank Sinatra. God help that guy if he doesn't have an ear for music.
Songs you'd recommend everybody to listen to (you can explain why if you want):
No Light, No Light - Florence + The Machine (because Florence's voice is so ethereal, magical and she can make you feel like you're flying)
Hey Jude - The Beatles (no further explanation)
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen (this is a very interesting and unusual song to listen to, something out of any genre. A pure masterpiece)
Butterflies and Hurricanes - Muse (I can literally name any of their songs and I won't miss, just like with Radiohead)
Happier Than Ever - Billie Eilish (for those who love beautiful vocal. Billie's soft vibrato and the second part is a powerful crescendo)

Finally got the motivation to do this! Makanendez oneshot (probably unless requested for more) coming through your way!
Title: "Cigarettes and War."
Trope//Prompt: Rivals to lovers(?)
Characters: Vladimir Makarov/Raul Menendez
I actually wrote about this in my notebook a bit ago, may take some bits from that. First time writing a fic on Tumblr! (Also, forgive me if Menendez or Makarov is a bit or ENTIRELY OOC, I still need to watch through a good majority of BO2 and get used to writing Mak :'') )
Also, he has a room of his own that's nicely protected, but not in the beginning of this fic >:)
Menendez woke up, and strangely, it wasn't to the sight of the light shining through his window in the early morning. In fact, he instead woke up to darkness. The only light luminating his room was from the moon outside. This wasn't normal. He never woke up this late in the night. He doesn't even know what time it is, but considering how groggy he feels, he knows it hasn't been 2 hours since he slept.
He knew something was off. And he knew that off feeling he had wasn't good. He looked out the window of his room and wondered what woke him up, perhaps the noise of a bird hitting the glass of his window woke him up? That can't be, that'd be stupid. Though he has heard that you could wake up if someone you don't know is around you. He sighed and groaned, staring up at his ceiling for a moment before slowly getting up from his bed, unsure on what to do.
It was then that he smelled the scent of smoke. The type of smoke you get from cigarettes. It was the scent of freshly lit cigarettes, and he could see the smoke from outside on his balcony through the window. Someone was on his balcony. But how can that be? His home was strongly protected, how could his men let someone climb up? Unless, that someone took down his men. Shit, so someone is on his balcony, and the men who were protecting his home were dead. Just great.
He sighed once more in annoyance. "Could've came here in the morning, when I'm not trying to sleep," he angrily grumbled as he looked in his drawer and grabbed his pistol which he prepared if a situation like this were to ever happen. He checked the magazine and luckily it was fully reloaded.
He slowly stood up from his bed and sneakily went to his balcony door which was closed. He braced himself and slowly opened the door and quickly rushed in and pointed the gun at where he thought the intruder would be. "You have to be more sneakier than this, I could see the smoke from inside."
He thought it was some stranger that decided to try and kill him, or an American soldier who thought it was great to have a smoke break right outside of his room, but since he was still mostly groggy, he didn't realize it was someone he fought with for a long time.
"Menendez.. It's been such a while since we've met. When was it, on the battlefield?"
He took a moment to process who he was talking to, and his eyes widened as he realized who it was. It was his enemy, his rival. They weren't exactly enemies but they weren't allies either, they talked through radios and phones a lot for enemies, but most conversations were full of insults, threats and a sprinkle of anger.
"..Makarov?- Vladimir Makarov.. What is someone like you doing here?!-" He kept his guard up as the russian warcriminal in front of him smoked a bit more before dropping the cigarette bud and crushing it under his shoe. "I came here, to you, to ask you something. And also," he looks down below from the balcony and under them laid the bodies of his men and also a rope that hung down and was hooked to the edge of said balcony. "I knocked out your men to get up here, was really easy."
"Not surprised someone like you could take them out easily, and I heard you want to ask something. Ask, or in ten seconds you're dead!" Menendez commanded, his gun still up and pointed towards Makarov. The other stayed calm and leaned against the railing, as he looked out to the view. "I feel like we should, stop fighting. I've heard of what your little army is fighting for, you want revenge for what they've done, to you, and to your sister." Menendez's brows furrowed, he was easily losing his patience. "Get on with it, don't try to delay your fate."
"I'm not, Raul! What I want to say is.. I want to help you. I want to help you grow your army, make your plan known to the world and get others to help you, either willingly or not." Makarov then turned to Menendez, his back leaned against the railing as his green and blue eyes shone lightly as it reflected the moonlight.
Menendez was surprised, he didn't know if it was the pleasant type or not. He couldn't believe him, not yet. "How can I believe you? You could be trying to kill me!" Makarov's expression looked a little upset when he said that. "Please trust me. You've heard of my work, haven't you? I can do you wonders.." Makarov said, silently panicking inside since it looks like Menendez is tired of his shit.
Menendez thought for a bit before then putting his pistol down to show that he doesn't wish to be aggressive. He was then proposed with a choice, to recruit Makarov into his army or to not. He can kill him right now and there. He then made a final choice, to recruit Makarov. "Fine, but you will only be helping me. Anything funny and you're dead, you hear me?" Makarov smiled softly, seemed like he was pretty happy.
"So, can I stay here? I'm too tired to go back."
"Of course you are, and there's a guest bedroom downstairs, just sleep in there for now I guess.." Menendez went back into his room as Makarov followed behind him to go downstairs from his room. "So, goodnight? I'll see you in the morning and hope that none of your men come in and kill me in my sleep." Makarov simply left his room and closed the door, now Menendez was alone again. He sighed and flopped onto his bed and curled up in his blanket. "..How the fuck did I even get here, how did this happen." He asked himself, just tired of everything. He quickly dozed off, questioning how he's going to explain to Cordis Die in the morning.
A/N : I'm sorry if this is pretty short, I kinda lost the motivation close to the end. I hope you like this though! May write more in the future.

‘ i carry your heart with me; i carry it in my heart. ’ ‘ you are whatever a moon has always meant, and whatever a sun will always sing is you. ’ ‘ yours is the light by which my spirit is born: you are my sun, my moon, and all my stars. ’ ‘ i like my body when it is with your body. it is so quite a new thing. ’ ‘ i like your body. i like what it does, i like its hows. i like to feel the spine of your body and its bones, and the trembling-firm-smoothness which i will again and again and again kiss. ’ ‘ your slightest look easily will unclose me. though i have closed myself as fingers, you open always, petal by petal, myself as spring opens—touching skillfully, mysteriously—her first rose. ’ ‘ something in me understands the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses. ’ ‘ nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands. ’ ‘ i do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no i or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when i fall asleep your eyes close. ’ ‘ i love you as certain dark things are to be loved, in secret, between the shadow and the soul. ’ ‘ i crave your mouth, your voice, your hair. silent and starving, i prowl through the streets. bread does not nourish me, dawn disrupts me, all day i hunt for the liquid measure of your steps. ’ ‘ of everything i have seen, it’s you i want to go on seeing: of everything i’ve touched, it’s your flesh i want to go on touching. i love your orange laughter. i am moved by the sight of you sleeping. ’ ‘ maybe nothingness is to be without your presence. ’ ‘ i love you, i love you, i love you—and perhaps this is how the whole enormous world, shining all over, can be created—out of five vowels and three consonants. ’ ‘ i swear by all that’s dear to me, all i believe in—i swear i that i have never loved before as i love you—with such tenderness—to the point of tears—and with such a sense of radiance. ’ ‘ i love you, my sun, my life, i love your eyes—closed—all the little tails of your thoughts, your stretchy vowels, your whole soul from head to heels. ’ ‘ with my love i could have filled ten centuries of fire, songs, and valour—ten whole centuries, enormous and winged. ’ ‘  i am reduced to a thing that wants [name]. ’ ‘ i love you, and when i awake in the morning i use my intelligence to discover more ways of appreciating you. ’ ‘ wear that beautiful dress you had on last time. i want to see the white of your flesh against it. i want to commit excesses. ’ ‘ i lie, [name], when i tell you that i do not want to worship you. ’ ‘ i am too gallant with you. i want to look at you long and ardently, pick up your dress, fondle you, examine you. do you know i have scarcely looked at you? there is still too much sacredness clinging to you. ’ ‘ i looked around my room to see what i could offer you; i saw only my silly watercolors and notes—notes everywhere, and on the backs your name—show this to [name], ask [name], see [name]. ’ ‘ there is a barbaric splendor about you that conquered not only me, but everyone who saw you. you are made to conquer, not be conquered. you could have the world at your feet. ’ ‘ you are my lover and i am your mistress, and kingdoms and empires and governments have tottered and succumbed before now to that mighty combination—the most powerful in the world. ’ ‘ how i adore and want you. you can’t know how much. ’ ‘ i love belonging to you—i glory in it, that you alone have bent me to your will, shattered my self-possession, robbed me of my mystery, and made me yours. ’ ‘ i am starving for you, if you must know it. ’ ‘ i want to go away with you. i must, and will, and damn the world and damn the consequences and anyone had better look out for themselves who dares to become an obstacle in my path. ’ ‘ oh my darling, precious love, what is going to become of us? ’ ‘ nothing and no one in the world could kill the love i have for you. i have surrendered my whole individuality, the very essence of my being to you. ’

.sensory deprivation - raphael.
Warnings: Eloise masturbates in front of him kind of creepy but he pulls uno reverse card on her, vocal Raph, there's no bj no licking it's their first time and Raph wants to GET HIS DICK STIRRED.
As always, notice I can't write to save my life. Enjoy!
Eloise was sitting on the couch inside the library with her legs hanging up. It was a cloudy night, so Vladimir was in the garden taking care of his plants. Beliath and Ethan went out just like Aaron, that was going to help Ivan feed, so he took the youngest out. It was just her and Raphael, her vampire, in the house.
He was reading some Goethe book Eloise found to be too lovey-dovey for her taste. He just laughed when Eloise said what she thought about it, stating she had yet to know how it feels to be at the mercy and feverish for somebody like Werther felt with just a kiss from Charlotte.
As much as she tried to avoid it, she always caught herself thinking about these types of things Raphael would say and do, the elegant arch on his back, the way he walked, his elegant posture, and his long fingers… How would it feel to have… All of him? Would it be feverish just like he said before beginning the book?
Her feet dragged ok the couch under the covers, making noise much louder than she would normally listen. Would that be her chalice senses or her fear of getting caught?
The way Raphael’s fingers turned the pages was so delicate and precise, and the way he felt the letters just right, firm.
Eloise almost moaned. In certain moments where she was deep in lust in her head, she felt how excited he got in certain parts of the book through their bond, but what made her even more interested was the fact that her vampire was always blindfolded. She thought about a wish she wanted him to grant for a long while, but she didn’t have the courage. She wanted it badly… If Raphael just let her wear his blindfold in a specific time… Perhaps if he even didn’t let her feel anything but him with his mind control powers that were so complimented in the manor? It was tempting.
Her legs tangled into themselves, trying to create some friction. On days like this, Eloise didn’t wear anything but a dress, however, she regretted as she felt the wetness in parts she’d like to save for the one she loved and nobody else. A few minutes where Eloise felt tension and pleasure in her lower abdomen passed.
   “Eloise."
From the darkened corner in the library, Raphael, turned towards her with a serious expression, called with a tone a bit more serious than usual. Almost as if he was… Scolding her. His teeth were gritted.
"Did I interrupt your reading?” She knew she started to sweat, her eyes were wide and her voice wavered weirdly when she asked fearful of being caught masturbating, but she still tried to pretend.
“I believe you can feel when I read the touching parts of the book, no?” He asked, taking his blindfold off, his eyes trained on her despite not seeing.
“Well, yes, but why do you ask?” She answered, a bitter taste on her mouth.
“This magical bond we have, my chalice…” Raphael stood up, stopping behind her and placing his hands on top of her covered shoulders. “Allows us to share the most intimate moments of excitement, sadness, fear, and even… Arousal.”
The last word was whispered in her ear, “When you feel like I’m getting in a good part of the book…” he proceeded, snatching the book Eloise had in her hands and throwing the covers to the side. “I feel your stare… I feel what you feel… Right here.” Raphael’s hand slid across her naked thighs, under her dress, between her thighs, and disappeared there. Her face contorted and a low whine came out from the bottom of her chest. She gripped Raphael’s arm to support herself while he seemed to have fun playing with her.
“Hmm, you wanted this for so long, I can even feel you aching. But I also feel the pleasure, like waves crashing in the shore…Yet, I’ll dare to ask”, he murmured close to her ear once more. “Do you like what I do to you?
Raphael’s long fingers slid one, two, three times before they settled where she needed him the most, making her voice sound needy when she decided to answer.
"Yes, please, just don’t stop” she whispered, making Raphael go faster. However, he soon placed his other hand in between her shoulder blades, making her sit up.
The feeling she had when he blindfolded her and sat right behind her, supporting her and getting back to thrusting his fingers into her was one of pure bliss. The moan of his name was loud, but not loud enough to satisfy Raphael.
Without seeing, Eloise tried do compensate with the next best sensation she could feel: the touch. But Raphael was faster, and soon she was dazed.
“Raphael?” She could touch him as much as she wanted, all she could ever feel was the deep, strong, slightly quick movement of her lover’s fingers, the places where she was touched. “Ah, just like that, I think I might…” Eloise felt the high hit her, strong, sweet, and unexpected wash upon her. Squeezing Raphael without seeing or feeling, the only thing she could concentrate on was listening to her loved one’s words, the taste of his fingers when he put them on her mouth.
“Taste yourself for me.” He felt her soft lips taste her own arousal, feeling the taste himself. “I feel it. You are… Delicious. Now, come to me."
He turned her around, feeling her relaxed body. The chalice decided to unbutton his golden shirt carefully. Then, she followed to his pants. Raphael got rid of his shocks and shoes with his feet. It didn’t matter if he was naked and under his darling in the library right now. He had an incredible wish to mold himself to Eloise’s tempting silhouette, to feel how soft she was with other parts of his body, to let tears full of pleasure fall when he felt what she felt, how much she wanted him inside of her.
"I will care for you.” He whispered. Eloise, who just felt when she was touched, shivered in fear, anticipation, and pleasure as she felt Raphael undressing her and touching her bare breasts, moaning lowly. “My, my, I wonder where the rest of your clothes are.” Eloise felt her cheeks burn.
“I… Did not want to wear them today.” She whispered back, embarrassed. The vampire chuckled, dragging his fangs lightly above her breasts. She moaned, grinding her hips against him as he grunted in between his laughter.
“Do you think I do not know how much fun you have watching me read and wondering how would it be to feel nothing but me?”
The way he spoke was bolder than what she was used to, but she did not let him surprise her and held his length in her hands, rocking back and forth carefully, feeling the cold drop of precum that fell in her hand. She guided him inside of her even if he didn’t need to. The feeling of not knowing exactly how he was shaped was foreign, and she was willing to test.
“How about you show me that you know just what I want, then?"
The first kiss, the very first kiss between them, the one they waited for the most happened at the same time he buried himself inside of her until he could not anymore. It was sweet, heavy but full of sensuality and unholiness that matched the moment. Eloise played timidly, but unexpectedly expertly with the even more experienced tongue that belonged to Raphael, who pulled away to suck at her neck and breasts.
"Please” she pleaded while trying to move her hips, feeling her vampire holding her in place and biting her right nipple. Without moving his mouth, he pushed Eloise softly against him, coming up with a rhythm that she could follow, feeling how his tongue wavered on her left nipple, and the cold air bit the one he just left. He wouldn’t stop sucking and bucking his hips, taking one of his hands to the button above their junction. Without much navigation, he started circling hard and slow to contrast with the quick and light rhythm Eloise made while she called his name.
“I wanted this so bad, I- I want you to take all of me. Please, Raphael, bite me."
With this sweet plea, his last bit of sanity broke. Biting his chalice on the neck, he sucked vigorously while he switched positions. He held her arms out, pounding quick and hard, moaning his chalice’s name loudly, needy, desperate like a mantra.
Eloise groaned through her gritted teeth and rolled her eyes behind the blindfold, throwing her head back and feeling the sweat getting colder with the wind that blower gently through the glass window. The second orgasm crashed through, followed by a choir of loud moans from both of them. Raphael let himself go while he whined and spilled everything he had on top of Eloise, who little by little was beginning to feel the soft expanse of the man’s back, his face wet with ecstatic tears, his lightly puffy lips because of his fangs and the blood that slid between her breasts.
The last kisses of the night were long. A few minutes, almost hours went by in which they got used to each other’s mouths. After a few moments of silence except for the sounds of fervent kisses, the door handle turned, but the door was locked.
"You guys! What the hell?” Ethan seemed disgusted, punching the door twice. Raphael wanted to protest, but Eloise’s crystalline laugh made him follow her and forget about his annoyance when they dress each other.
“We should taste a bit more of us, my chalice,” Raphael said under the moon, now shining, now letting Eloise fall in a deep slumber on his arms.

Ghost of the Innocent Man: A True Story of Trial and Redemption by Benjamin Rachlin
"When the final gavel clapped in a rural southern courtroom in the summer of 1988, Willie J. Grimes, a gentle spirit with no record of violence, was shocked and devastated to be convicted of first-degree rape and sentenced to life imprisonment. Here is the story of this everyman and his extraordinary quarter-century-long journey to freedom, told in breathtaking and sympathetic detail, from the botched evidence and suspect testimony that led to his incarceration to the tireless efforts to prove his innocence and the identity of the true perpetrator. These were spearheaded by his relentless champion, Christine Mumma, a cofounder of North Carolina's Innocence Inquiry Commission. That commission-unprecedented at its inception in 2006-remains a model organization unlike any other in the country, and one now responsible for a growing number of exonerations."-- Provided by the publisher
The Real Lolita: The Kidnapping of Sally Horner and the Novel That Scandalized the World by Sarah Weinman
"The Real Lolita is a tour de force of literary detective work. Not only does it shed new light on the terrifying true saga that influenced Nabokov's masterpiece, it restores the forgotten victim to our consciousness." --David Grann, author of Killers of the Flower Moon. Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita is one of the most beloved and notorious novels of all time. And yet, very few of its readers know that the subject of the novel was inspired by a real-life case: the 1948 abduction of eleven-year-old Sally Horner. Weaving together suspenseful crime narrative, cultural and social history, and literary investigation, The Real Lolita tells Sally Horner's full story for the very first time. Drawing upon extensive investigations, legal documents, public records, and interviews with remaining relatives, Sarah Weinman uncovers how much Nabokov knew of the Sally Horner case and the efforts he took to disguise that knowledge during the process of writing and publishing Lolita. Sally Horner's story echoes the stories of countless girls and women who never had the chance to speak for themselves. By diving deeper in the publication history of Lolita and restoring Sally to her rightful place in the lore of the novel's creation, The Real Lolita casts a new light on the dark inspiration for a modern classic.
Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee by Casey Cep
"The stunning story of an Alabama serial killer and the true-crime book that Harper Lee worked on obsessively in the years after To Kill a Mockingbird. Reverend Willie Maxwell was a rural preacher accused of murdering five of his family members for insurance money in the 1970s. With the help of a savvy lawyer, he escaped justice for years until a relative shot him dead at the funeral of his last victim. Despite hundreds of witnesses, Maxwell's murderer was acquitted -- thanks to the same attorney who had previously defended the Reverend. Sitting in the audience during the vigilante's trial was Harper Lee, who had traveled from New York City to her native Alabama with the idea of writing her own In Cold Blood, the true-crime classic she had helped her friend Truman Capote research seventeen years earlier. Lee spent a year in town reporting, and many more working on her own version of the case. Now Casey Cep brings this nearly inconceivable story to life, from the shocking murders to the courtroom drama to the racial politics of the Deep South. At the same time, she offers a deeply moving portrait of one of the country's most beloved writers and her struggle with fame, success, and the mystery of artistic creativity."-- Dust jacket
Death In the Air: The True Story of a Serial Killer, the Great London Smog, and the Strangling of a City by Kate Winkler Dawson
A real-life thriller in the vein of The Devil in the White City, Kate Winkler Dawson's debut Death in the Air is a gripping, historical narrative of a serial killer, an environmental disaster, and an iconic city struggling to regain its footing. London was still recovering from the devastation of World War II when another disaster hit: for five long days in December 1952, a killer smog held the city firmly in its grip and refused to let go. Day became night, mass transit ground to a halt, criminals roamed the streets, and some 12,000 people died from the poisonous air. But in the chaotic aftermath, another killer was stalking the streets, using the fog as a cloak for his crimes. All across London, women were going missing--poor women, forgotten women. Their disappearances caused little alarm, but each of them had one thing in common: they had the misfortune of meeting a quiet, unassuming man, John Reginald Christie, who invited them back to his decrepit Notting Hill flat during that dark winter. They never left. The eventual arrest of the "Beast of Rillington Place" caused a media frenzy: were there more bodies buried in the walls, under the floorboards, in the back garden of this house of horrors? Was it the fog that had caused Christie to suddenly snap? And what role had he played in the notorious double murder that had happened in that same apartment building not three years before--a murder for which another, possibly innocent, man was sent to the gallows? The Great Smog of 1952 remains the deadliest air pollution disaster in world history, and John Reginald Christie is still one of the most unfathomable serial killers of modern times. Journalist Kate Winkler Dawson braids these strands together into a taut, compulsively readable true crime thriller about a man who changed the fate of the death penalty in the UK, and an environmental catastrophe with implications that still echo today.

alright, I wasn’t technically tagged in this, but @the-chesapeake-shipper did a vague-tag to all mutuals yesterday, and 🥺 I’m bored. thank u for ur generosity
rules: tag people you want to get to know better!
your name and then what you would have named yourself: well... coincidentally, i did choose my name a few years back. i’m darcy (yes, after mr. darcy. no, i do not regret it). HOWEVER there are times when i wish i had chosen a name that paid homage to my Japanese heritage. i recently learned that my mom had planned to name me kimiko hunaya and there are lots of days where i consider it because i know my great grandmother approved of it
astrological sign (sun/moon/rising if you know): will someone at a higher level of gay please teach me how to do this stuff???? i’m a capricorn, but i don’t know if that’s sun, moon, or rising
when did you join tumblr and why?: oh god.... way too young? i think i made my first blog in eighth grade. so 2011. mostly because i wanted to be an edgy tween reblogging quotes
top five fandoms: i have to narrow it down? this list is in a constant flux but at this exact moment: nbc hannibal, star trek, tolkien (i cant bring myself to say lotr while the silmarillion still holds most of my heart), the man from uncle, and x-men (but exclusively for erik’s turtlenecks)
top five favorite films: the normal heart, princess mononoke, star trek: the voyage home, the phantom thread, and the pride and prejudice 5 part mini-series that we’re all going to pretend is a movie because i never watch movies...
go to song when you want to Feel something: depends on what i need to feel, but if we’re talking about Yearning(TM), lover please stay by nothing but thieves
what’s your religion or faith if you have one?: i was raised mostly with catholic influences and some shintoism/buddhism. i vacillate between total nihilism and the concept of divinity in nature and the infinite cyclicality of energy and life??
a song that makes you feel seen: anything keaton henson has ever written? beekeeper is a very enduring song from when i was younger that still hits me right in the gut even if i dont feel the same way as i did back then. a more currently relevant song would be garden song by phoebe bridgers
if you could have any career: if i could be the person i want to be rather than the person that i am, i would be a university english professor, preferably at some old university where everything is a little drafty and the campus library has high ceilings and ghosts that stretch back to time immemorial. sharing a love for literature and storytelling has always appealed to me, and if i could, i would spend the rest of my life in academia
do you have a type: men who are too old for me and women who intimidate me 😔
what does your heart/soul yearn for?: faust. all i want right now is to sit down in my library with goethe, tchaikovsky playing in the background. where’s mephistopheles to give me a special witches brew so i have all the time in the world to glut on the passions of humanity?
if you had to describe yourself in 5 words to someone who doesn’t know you: book hoarding bisexual literature student???
favorite subject in school: english, but i also love history (especially art history)
where does your soul feel most at home?: sitting on the end of my grandparent’s crumbling dock, feet dangling in a lake that made it’s home in some scooped out part of the north cascade mountains. everything is still except the whisper of the air through the pine needles and the slap of water against the shore. my grandma and i had wine and charcuterie for lunch and now my grandpa’s talking about his painting—something that straddles the line between the familiar and the surreal. it’s a very comforting memory
top 5 fictional characters: aragorn, son of arathorn, king of gondor; hannibal lecter; jim kirk; thomasina from tom stoppard’s arcadia; lyra belaqua from his dark materials
top 3 moments in a show that made you ugly cry: did you mean when boromir dies in fellowship???? he’s such a tragic character, and sean bean was the perfect casting decision. uuuhmmmmm hannibal tenderly and erotically gutting will in his kitchen. it’s one hell of a sex scene, that. aaaand the ending of your lie in april. i have nothing else to say on the matter
the earth, the sun, the moon, or the stars: has to be the stars (moon, please forgive me....)
favorite kind of weather: when everything is poised on the edge of a storm. the air is perfectly still, and you can smell the rain and the lightning. the sun low enough that there’s nothing but a glow of light at the bottom of the cloud bank
top 3 characters you kin with: elizabeth bennett.... clearly; will graham.... less clearly; and leonard mccoy, ultimate mom friend
favorite medium of art: subtractive sculpture mediums, especially marble, and oil painting. give me all that classic art
introvert/extrovert/ambivert: i’m a big, dumb introvert
a favorite literary quote: i could... spend hours answering this. since i’m thinking of stoppard and his horribly underappreciated plays, we’ll go with my favorite quote from arcadia: “We shed as we pick up, like travellers who must carry everything in their arms, and what we let fall will be picked up by those behind. The procession is very long and life is very short. We die on the march. But there is nothing outside the march so nothing can be lost to it. The missing plays of Sophocles will turn up piece by piece, or be written again in another language. Ancient cures for diseases will reveal themselves once more. Mathematical discoveries glimpsed and lost to view will have their time again. You do not suppose, my lady, that if all of Archimedes had been hiding in the great library of Alexandria, we would be at a loss for a corkscrew?”
some of your favorite books: the hobbit (tolkien), cloud atlas (david mitchell), the goldfinch (donna tartt), broken monsters (lauren beukes), the amber spyglass (phillip pullman), the paper menagerie (ken liu), the vintner’s luck (elizabeth knox), wuthering heights (emily bronte), pride and prejudice (jane austen), lolita (vladimir nabokov), crimson petal in the white (michel faber), sharp objects (gillian flynn), life after life (kate atkinson), the picture of dorian gray (oscar wilde), arcadia (tom stoppard), faust (goethe)
if you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?: a townhouse in edinburgh scotland, someplace just big enough for all of my books and a dog and cat. or that town int he netherlands where there’s no cars and everyone gets around by boat. i don’t drive, so that sounds like such a dream??????
if you could live in any time in history, when would it be?: i don’t think i’d like living in any other time, honestly... as a nonbinary person... but i would love to pop into the victorian era for a visit. i want to sit in on a victorian salon, listen to poets read their work and look at art and just generally enjoy the beauty of it. but i wouldn’t like to live then for long
if you could play any instrument masterfully, which would it be?: the cello please and thank you
if you have one, what mythological god or goddess do you feel a connection to?: i vibe pretty hard with persephone...
oh my god, this is so long, but LASTLY, favorite recent selfie in your camera roll: two because why not?

The sky calls to us
Tumblr media
There’s a reason I keep a separate blog where I choose to chime in on some political happening or other. It’s something I take great care in doing. It’s easy to get it wrong (and in my younger days, I often did get it wrong), so I have to make an effort to get my ducks in a row. Even so, it’s nominally something I try to avoid whenever possible, which is why in my srs business blog’s early days, I was focused more on fandom drama.
The problem though is that now it’s become impossible to avoid. I know there are those of you out there who resent the incursion of real world events onto your tumblr feed, or the Twitter’s or Facebook’s of your favorite celebs. I do as well. I personally would rather talk about anything else and I’m willing to bet they would love to do the same.
But the world has become so volatile now that it can no longer be avoided. And despite the fact that I had literally gone two months without touching this site, even I couldn’t stand idly by while all of us, every lover of freedom wherever it may exist in the world, were being set up the bomb.
To say the last 48 hours have been surreal is an understatement. But not entirely surprising.
We resent the incursion of these events onto our feeds because we want the internet to be our shelter from it all. I’m here to tell you that it was irrational to think the internet would be immune.
When the world has decided that compromise is for losers and the only thing that matters is to win at any cost, then it stands to reason that the internet will follow along.
Unless it’s leading the way. And in many respects, it’s leading the way.
Tumblr media
So where do we go from here? When I say I haven’t touched this site in some time, it’s not exactly a statement of pride. I won’t lie to you all when I say it’s been hard for me to work up the effort to browse the internet these days. If you went back 15 years or so and told my adolescent self, the 7th grade kid who knew what memes were a full 5-6 years before his classmates did, that there’d come a point in time where he’d want to hide from the internet? He’d call you insane.
Part of the reason I’ve avoided this site is because of the self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head that resulted in the censoring of many blogs I followed (as well as one I ran). But the other part is that I find I no longer have the energy to engage in the sort of thing that passes for “discourse” here like I did in the past. While it is still my desire, if not my duty, to talk with you all with some candor about what is happening in the world today, I’m rather disenchanted by the prospect of posting an article that gives an update on Brexit proceedings or the state of the Russia investigation and coming back to find sizzling hot takes in my notes that make me want to pay a visit to Comrade Smirnoff.
And I’ll be honest. The prospect of staring down a smug faced Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin as they win re-election and continue to be worshiped by the assholes of the world isn’t exactly appealing to me either.
Any potential benefits of going back to discussing fandom drama don’t really seem that attractive either. My years in furrydom sapped my capacity for fandom politics long ago. I spoke out in favor of bronies because I could see through the lies and manipulations and it got to a point where I said all that a person could reasonably say on the matter. Considering the success of the show and that the public image of the fandom has improved, I’d like to think my efforts were a success.
I don’t know enough about the other fandoms making waves right now to offer an opinion, and frankly I’m not inclined to engage. I saw the remastered Star Wars trilogy when I was 7 years old. I went to midnight showings for every movie that’s come out since (even the prequels). I would much prefer to discuss the merits of the new movies with my local group of friends instead of coming on here and writing a 1,000 word dissertation on The Last Jedi that would ultimately end up with me getting dragged into an ad-hominem laden argument with 3 other users.
I see some of my esteemed comrades still have the energy for that. Alas, I am no longer that strength which in old days moved heaven and Earth.
Speaking of which: Elite Dangerous.
Tumblr media
Elite Dangerous is, as I describe it, a Space MMO. Set in a 1:1 scale recreation of the Milky Way galaxy that is based on actual astronomical data and scientific principles.
It’s the closest I’ve ever truly gotten, and may ever truly get, to being the captain of a Spaceship.
Tumblr media
A trip out to the Robin’s Egg nebula envelopes you in a sea of gas, tinted blue by the light of a Blue White Supergiant just passing into adolescence. The nebula is home to a sea of young Red Dwarfs, small rocky bodies, ringed planets who’s metal surface is more of a sea of lava, and even a small Black Hole.
Tumblr media
But it’s not just a recreational trip, you’re here at the behest of a scientist who’s willing to pay you a lot of credits to fly out to this stellar nursery. Once complete, you head back to your Space Station in Geosync orbit around Earth. A station named after Abraham Lincoln, as one does when naming starports. You drop your passengers off, get your next assignment, and you’re off to another star system 20 light years away.
Tumblr media
The internet is able to get away with a lot, namely because underneath all the memes and controversy and drama are a bunch of people (mainly millennials) who occasionally make some money when their video of them yelling about a bad movie or winning victory royale hits a certain number of views on YouTube. It gets away with a lot because fandoms are real, living, vibrant communities that you can feel whenever you go to a convention or post in the appropriate tags.
In Elite Dangerous, you go into the game not expecting much. And you’re frequently rewarded by visiting strange new worlds that you never thought could’ve existed.
There’s a group of trolls in the game, they seek to cause as much mayhem and chaos as possible because they’re upset that the vibe of Elite Dangerous is not what they want it to be. It’s not the bitterly nostalgic vibe of Valve games, or the hyper competitive alpha vibe of Overwatch or Call of Duty. It’s certainly not the paranoid warmongering vibe of EvE online.
Elite Dangerous is a bunch of people exploring the galaxy.
And, I dunno, I feel that as a culture, a society, a civilization, and a species, maybe we could eventually work our way up to that.
Maybe not.
Tumblr media
There’s a system in Elite known simply as “The View.” 1400 light years away from Earth, it contains a ringed planet orbiting around a Blue-White star younger than the ones in Robin’s Egg. If you set down near the pole of this planet, you get a great view of the rings, as well as a Pulsar and, if you’re lucky, two Black Holes.
When you venture out further, you see many wondrous sights.
Tumblr media
A planet covered in water with massive ice sheets at the poles in an almost comical inversion of the future predicted by those fighting climate change.
Tumblr media
Binary stars close enough that trying to shoot the gap nearly burns your spaceship to a crisp.
Tumblr media
Worlds with magnificent ring systems that put Saturn’s to shame.
Tumblr media
Pulsars with massive jets that swirl and twist like cosmic tornadoes.
And those are just the procedurally generated bodies. Stars and planets and others placed where they are because computer models based on hard science said they should be there.
Tumblr media
Still plenty of room for real life celestial bodies. Like VY Canis Majoris, one of the largest stars in the galaxy.
Tumblr media
Or Jupiter and the Galilean moons.
Tumblr media
Or the Black Hole V404 Cygni.
The experience of Elite Dangerous is truly otherworldly, the kind of thing that ingrains itself in your mind and will not leave. The game is unnervingly beautiful not just because of its technical prowess, but because of what it can inspire.
Right now, this is just a video game, but there’s still the chance that there’s beauty in this galaxy that is not only unseen but completely unthinkable. Without Elite, it would be literally unimaginable.
It’s this inspiration that pushes me forward, that drives me in my attempt to help enlighten those around me, even if at times it feels the struggle will soon be lost.
This could be our future, but the only way to get there is together.
Tumblr media
Somewhere out there in a sea of 400 Billion stars is a world just like this one.
We owe it to ourselves to give our descendants a chance to visit. Just in case it turns out to be Equestria.

Strong | Vladimir Ranskahov x reader
Tumblr media
[i missed making my banners]
✎ Pairing: Vladimir Ranskahov x reader
✎ Requested by Anonymous: Could I request a fic (any length- 100 words and it would make my entire week tbh) where Vlad finds out how emotionally strong and mature the reader is, even though she’s been through hell like him?
✎ A/N: a thousand times sorry for the long wait! Hopefully you’re still able to see this, since you were on anon and probably don’t know I posted your request haha This was an amazing concept, but I feel like my rendering wasn’t that great ? Hopefully you still enjoy! 💛
✎ Warnings: none that I can think of, just me being my boring self and my story not making much sense wtf is this story?
Word-count: 1,189
Strong.
If there was one word Vladimir would use to describe her, that would be it. And even if he had spent years by her side, he was discovering this just now. They had spent the whole night making love and now she had managed to fall asleep. And as he stared at her face, at the way the faint light of the early morning seeping in through the lace curtains of the bedroom played with her features, that thought struck him the same way Petya groaned ‘holy fuck’ when he remembered something he hadn’t done but had been supposed to do.
And so, holy fuck. Holy fucking fuck.
He didn’t know what had triggered that realization because at that moment, even though still fierce, she looked like the most fragile China doll. And he now remembers how that thought clashed with her Matryoshka-like essence: she had so much hidden inside her, so many nuances and past events unknown to him and experiences and so many worlds, that she couldn’t possibly be fragile. She had to be strong, almost made out of stone to be able to keep all that inside and not be broken by what he couldn’t see below the surface. Still, he stared at her face, at her eyelashes, trembling with each and every moment of her eyes below closed eyelids and suddenly the fear of crushing her overwhelmed him.
Holy fuck.
The strength of that realization left him breathless for a couple of seconds, and unable to think for a couple of minutes. And as his brain restarted itself, he drank her in as though that was their first meeting, as though an invisible veil had vanished and he was now really seeing her for the first time. Even in years to come, he wouldn’t be able to tell what, exactly, had triggered that awakening, just that one moment she was in black and white and the next she was a new world in full-color and that he still had much to learn. One moment she had simply been his lover, and the next some new and unreachable creature, something way above him and, at the same time, still at his level, so similar and yet so different to what he was.
It was disarming because it almost felt like he didn’t know her at all. All the little things he knew about her–the way her smile would twitch when she was amused, or the way she hummed along to the radio as she cooked, her love for wrestling and pets and the smell of rain–it was almost as though those things didn’t really matter. It was the tip of the iceberg and only that short and insignificant tip stood above the water and for a second Vladimir found himself scared–almost terrified–of dipping below the waves to see what floated underneath. Still, it was an electrifying fear, something that wasn’t really there because you were excited to see the creatures hidden in the deep darkness, almost the same way he and Tolya had used to venture out into the outskirts of Moscow to see the world outside the big city.
For a moment he thought he’d see everything the moment the tips of his fingers would touch her neck, but he was disappointed and relieved that nothing happened, that the only thing welcoming him was the warmth of her skin.
Holy fucking fuck.
He noticed a scar he had never noticed there: thin, two, maybe three inches long, the difference in texture almost unperceivable with that of the skin of her neck. It was an old one, of this he was sure, but just by the touch, he couldn’t tell how that cut had been made.
A shiver ran down his spine, pulling at his skin, and his shoulders trembled, the hair at the nape of his neck stood up at its roots. It was as though he didn’t know her at all, and at the same time as though he knew her better than he knew himself, better than he knew Tolya or better than he had known his Moscow.
The origin of that thought would always be as unknown as that of his first realization of the early morning and his gaze traveled down the side of her neck, over the skin and swells of her breasts, the dip of her collarbone. When he looked at her, he somehow knew there was no running away from that relationship just as he knew there was no way he’d reach the bottom of the iceberg that was her life. He’d never know what lied down there, how thick the ice was, how dark the water got, and what monsters swam underneath the irregular base. Still, he knew the ice was thick, the water dark and the monsters much more alike to his than he’d ever consciously realized.
His eyes traveled from her kiss-swollen lips to her closed eyes and he thought that maybe that was what had drawn him to her and her to him. That had been the invisible force pushing them towards each other. He had always thought they weren’t just miles but worlds apart, so different they were still together just because of a thin but steely thread. Now, with the umpteenth holy fuck of the night, he felt like there was much more to that than it caught the eye.
She felt huge, and not in a physical kind of way, but rather in a sort of metaphysical kind of way. It was like standing in front of a mountain and you were so small you felt insignificant, lost, a child in the world of giants, almost like when he had learned at school that the universe was much bigger than he could ever imagine and it didn’t matter if man had set foot on the Moon: no one would reach its outer edges.
Holy fuck. Holy fucking fuck.
Is this how relationships fail? Because one is too blind to really see the other? Because you live on prejudices? And every effort to get to know the other simply scrapes the surface of a world too vast to fully comprehend?
Volodya didn’t know where that sudden fear had abruptly come from or why it felt the need to come into existence. But as he stared at her, raptured, still lost in his thoughts, overwhelmed by those sudden realizations, he couldn’t help but feel terrified by that possibility. And once again he felt small, so small it almost faded into insignificance, and she was a giant, an unreachable goddess, a master of strength, able to hide anything to the world.
When she opened her eyes, he didn’t even notice at first. He was staring at her hairline almost as though it could give him the answers he didn’t know he had ever needed. But when her fingers weaving through his hair startled him, tearing a sleepy chuckle from her throat, he smiled at her. And her eyes felt like an entirely different and new thing, almost as though he was seeing them for the first time as well.
Feed me with your feedback, I really don’t know what this story is but it kinda made me want to sob ? even if it’s not that great ? Vladimir Ranskahov makes me emotional, I’m sorry

Golden Kamuy 1 | Butlers x Battlers 1 | Mahou Shoujo Ore 2 | Idolish7 15
Golden Kamuy 1
It’s time to go all in for gore and action!
If there was enough to scar his face, he’s definitely not immortal. I tell you that about Sugimoto.
Monme is a term used for weighing pearls, apparently.
A kan was mentioned in the link I provided last dotpoint as 30 monmes…Yikes…
The realistic fire actually throws me off somewhat.
Souns like the One Piece, only…more obviously Japanese.
Ezo. I knew I’d read this name somewhere – it was in a Crunchyroll article about this show!
Am I dreaming or is that bear a littttttle too realistic-looking? Last time a bear was in an anime was Armed Girls’ Machiavellianism, and I didn’t like that so much…
Normally the symbol for Russia is a bear (even today, just look at Vladimir Putin fight them bears!) so (strangely) I’m not surprised Sugimoto made a connection between monster bears and Russians.
Hokkaido winter. Must be nasty, eh?
There’s something strange about watching a CGI bear and wolf fight, y’know? Especially when the blood of the bear is 2D.
Postcredits scene. Keep watching…
Ooh, this show’s definitely a keeper!
Butlers x Battlers 1
After being swayed by Cactus Matt to give this show a chance, I am doing just that…very hesitantly…
Eye blink animation? Okay, I think anime just went over the cliff for “too much info we didn’t need”. It works for a VN, but not an actual first-person scene in an anime.
What is the opposite of “touchable” anyways (by using a prefix)?
I feel sorry for the owl that gets held up by one of the boys…
OLDCODEX? They did an OP for Servamp. They must be pretty perfect for a show like this, then.
About the ep title: Toki is literally “time”, there is a specific word for “moment” in Japanese y’know…
“High-spec” is not a word I would ever want to hear in relation to a student council. I’d like to hear it for a computer, though.
Both “Jinguji” and “Koma” look like last names at first glance…
Ohh! Pretty! Ren’s name means “lotus” (often the white variety is shown for that kind of flower, right?), aside from the obvious callout to the colour white in his surname.
I half-expect every new character intro to have a sparkly introduction thing with it. For this sort of show, which hasn’t done anything with the sister(?) from the beginning moments, it seems kind of…inundating the series with characters for characters’ sake. That’s bad, y’know.
Couldn’t you show and not tell this “your grades are high” bit?
Wait. So that was a transition (when J walked in and it just suddenly moved to Tenna)? Sure didn’t look like one.
If Ren’s colour is white, then why is Dracula white???
“Fast river”…? Eh? Update: Yeah, J’s right…
At first I thought the comedic timing on this show was great, but the girls’ owl gag didn’t work for me…
Oh man. I’ll never remember this amount of characters if they’re doing all the namecards in the first episode! Adding a mystery to an already packed show is not going to help matters at all. Holmes looks like a Diabolik Lovers reject, to make matters worse…
Akira reminds me of the owner from Ameiro Cocoa for some reason. Getting an Ameiro Cocoa reference is definitely not a good thing for this show…
The letter transition was better than the last one, at least.
Kageyama Hikari? That sounds extremely counterintuitive for a name… (Note: kage = shadow, hikari = light)
J didn’t even get his drink, did he? I would’ve liked some bishie sparkle to make this look a bit better. The prettiness of the still visuals really got downgraded through the animation process.
“You and I are both Butlers!” – Uh, no they’re not. One’s a café attendant and the other’s a student (LOL).
What even is a Blood Spirit??? You can’t even see the birth mark when it’s pointed out (you just get a blue light), so there’s something mighty fishy about that…
So…this is a time travel show??? Wut? Post-credits scene though, keep watching…
What are those characters under the episode title? I can’t tell.
There are enough bits of interesting stuff to keep me watching, but I anticipate this’ll be like Tsukigakirei (as in, I keep complaining about the bad parts, even if I enjoy the show in general). That’s why it’s going on hold. By the way, I thought about Nil Admirari and that’s been dropped, but I’ll reevaluate it if I need something that fits its niche sometime in the future.
Mahou Shoujo Ore 2
I’ve signed up for a collab on this series, so it seems like it’ll be sticking around for a while.
The cutesy voices of the monsters really sells this show, eh?
This joke (“I’m me”)…there was a similar one in Cute x Boy (“I’m just Jun”/ “Tada[ ]no Jun”), which really brings me back…ahh, nostalgia.
If you’re talking about what pronouns people use, the manager uses “ore” as well, which is a tad confusing (LOL).
This love for Saki’s male form…it must be genetic! (LOL)
Wow, real photos really sold this gag. They’re certainly gonna run it into the ground real quick as this rate, though…
How did they manage the upside-down…oh wait, Spanish subtitles. Rightttttttttttttttt…
Oh no. Don’t do the fanservice. It’s disturbing on a ma-oh, never mind. It happened. Let it go.
The deep voice they chose for Sakuyo’s male form definitely sold that. Excecution is key, remember?
The Sailor Moon parody line in the preview, that was absolutely fabulous! Oh, but the word used is “fueta” (increased) and technically it’s not “Another” in most senses of the term…or any senses, in fact.
Idolish7 15
This show’s going on a 1 month hiatus…which is really sabotaging my schedule, but what can you do about it? Nothing, aside from wait.
Wait, that end bit was definitely different. Normally everyone raises their hands at this stage and the plane goes off into the distance. This time everyone brings their hands out from under Riku’s and no plane is in the sky…things are really getting serious. Is it wrong that this show sometimes makes me a bit anxious?
Sometimes it’s hard to believe Riku and Iori are brothers…
What’s with the fish-eye lens on Tsumugi and the van?
The point of fans is to be in tune with their idols and vice versa. That’s the power of idols and their fans!
I noticed Gaku is wearing a cross necklace. That certainly wouldn’t fly on American TV, would it?
I got kinda anxious with the last lot of episodes that concerned the song theft, so that explains why I’m feeling kind of anxious now as well…
I think I understand the use of the fish-eye lens now. This one particularly gives an idea of invasion and creepiness. It’s probably more spot on than Junji Ito Collection, and that’s saying something!
It’s interesting that Sougo takes on the role of the surrogate mother here for Tamaki…
“We can’t shoot a show like this!”
If Gaku hits his dad, that’s a lot of dad-punching for one series…two hits in a row…
It’s in times of desperation that Tenn looks like his brother.
Whoa! Those leopard eyes signal some major danger on the horizon! If only the show weren’t going on hiatus…
Post-credits scene! Keep watching.
Even the titlecard is grey, and Otoharu’s opening his eyes. Stuff really is getting serious around here! Yikes!
Okay, here’s details on the hiatus. Until then, I’ll be taking on more spring shows. See you then…

Im not gonna lie- Moon light lovers is really bare fucking bones. Compared to Eldarya, and MCL.
I can't tell if im spending a fuck ton of AP ot not at all.
Wheres my character creation game??
Also fuck vladmir, the MC personailty is waffles all over the place. It like 2 of the writers couldn't decided if they wanted the protag to be aggressive or passive. The game should have stoped if you couldn't pick any of the other boys. Either my game glitched or what but it auto picked vlad for me and im like. Ivan and or my blind boy would have been way fuckin better.

I was wondering if there was a reason behind the names you chose for the cursed names of characters in your OUaT reboot? I was looking at some that weren't already in the show and was wondering you chose those ones specifically?
OH YEAH. One of my biggest complaints about the real show is that Kitsis and Horowitz know nothing about fairy tales (or how to use Wikipedia tbh) and so they kind of just name their characters however they feel like, without giving the careful consideration they should. An example I’ve cited before was how it was Ginnifer Goodwin who pointed out to them that Snow White is sometimes believed to be based on the real-life Bavarian baroness Maria Sophia Margarethe Catharina, which actually makes the name Mary Margaret quite fitting. This was just a happy accident rather than being the intentional touch it should have. I actually wanted to change more of the names - David Nolan was Will Ferdinand for a long time in our rewrite - but in the interest of keeping the characters as recognizable as possible, we kept a lot of them the same. Here are some of the new ones (that we’ve met so far) and what their names mean:
Evelyn Oxford - “eve” for evening and oxford is a shade of blue, tying Storybrooke’s current mayor to her identity as the Blue Fairy
Sydney Glass - Uh, this is a boring one, but I just like this spelling better. I shuffled through several name options for Sydney, including using names like Lohr (the name of Maria Sophia’s town and her father’s mirror manufacturer) and Moroni Olsen (the voice of the mirror from Disney’s Snow White) as well as some other things that would be rather spoilery at this point… but as with David Nolan, things got too confusing when such a central character went through too much rebranding.
Ruby Connor - means “wolf lover”
Widow Agatha Lucas - Angela Lansbury played the grandmother in the film The Company of Wolves, she is also quite famous for playing Miss Marple in The Mirror Crack’d, based on the novel by Agatha Christie. It’s a bit of a stretch, mostly I just like Agatha as an old lady name.
Helen Connor - Granny’s Storybrooke alter ego, Helen is related to “selene” meaning “moon,” suggesting her werewolf connection
Marco Collodi - The Adventures of Pinocchio was originally written by Carlo Collodi
Graham Buchanan - The huntsman in Disney’s version of Snow White was voiced by Stuart Buchanan
Dominic Leroux - I bet you forgot this character even existed… he’s there though, and his name does have meaning! I just can’t tell you yet!
Luciana - The name “Abigail” was particularly worthless. We gave her a Greek name, since her father is Greek, and Luciana means “light,” loosely connected to the gold nature of her myth.
Zoe Nolan - According to some accounts, Midas’s daughter is named Zoe! That name felt weird in the Land of Ever, so we used that name in Storybrooke instead.
Matthew Llewelyn - Matthew comes from Sir James Matthew Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, and Llewelyn comes from the Llewelyn-Davies family, on whom Barrie based the adventures of Peter Pan and the Darlings.
Ivy Langland - Ivy just comes from Robin Hood’s connection to the forest. One of the earliest mentions of the Robin Hood character comes from the poem Piers Plowman by William Langland.
Matilda Fitzwalter - Matilda Fitzwalter was an actual historical woman, on whom many legends of Maid Marian are based.
Judge Lyman - Oh wait… you don’t know who he is yet, do you? Not yet, at least…
Annie Orleans - Flora Annie Steel is sometimes credited for being the first user of the name “Goldilocks,” a character who has seen several different incarnations over the years. Orleans is related to the French word “or,” meaning gold, and I also was inspired by the person of Joan of Arc, aka the Maid of Orleans, for the character of Goldilocks.
Coquelica - Most of the names from the Land of Wonder were lifted from the Tim Burton reboot, but the princess that becomes the Red Queen is named for coquelicot, a shade of red and a French term for wild corn poppies.
King Hubert - The grandfather of Cinderella’s prince shares a name with a king from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. I wonder why…
Prince William - Like I said, David Nolan was going to be Will for a long time until I decided it was just too confusing to rename such a major character. It’s just as well, because Prince Charming from Disney’s Cinderella was voiced by William Phipps.
Timothy Rupert - We let Timothy keep his name from the show, only because calling him "Christopher Rupert" felt too on-the-nose - because yes, the Rodgers and Hammerstein middle name for the prince is exactly where this surname comes from!
Ashleigh Glaser - I actually thought naming Cinderella “Ashley” was cute, I just liked this spelling better (same as the Sydney thing honestly). “Glaser” means “glass blower.”
Nancy Kennedy - Since Lady Tremaine inspired Nancy’s last name in Disney’s Enchanted, I used Nancy’s first name for Lady Tremaine’s Storybrooke persona. Kennedy is derived from an Irish surname that means “misshapen head” - inspired by the term “ugly stepsisters.”
Rhoda Kennedy - Rhoda Williams voiced Drizella in Disney’s Cinderella
Lucy Kennedy - Lucille Bliss voiced Anastasia in Disney’s Cinderella
Vladimir Mangiafuoco - Vladimir means “great, famous,” which makes sense for an entertainer like Stromboli, and in the original The Adventures of Pinocchio, the puppet master character is name Mangiafuoco.
Ryan Booth - Honestly, Ryan is taken from the guy Emma meets in the opening sequence of the pilot and Booth we just took from August Booth since that character wasn’t going to appear in our version. But Ryan does mean “little king,” so I wonder what that could mean for his future…
Sylvia Wren - One of my favorite names in the whole lot, Sylvia comes from Sylvia Llewelyn-Davies, the mother of the family that inspired the Peter Pan stories. As for the surname, in the original stage production of Peter Pan, the program credited “Jane Wren” as Tinker Bell, despite the fact that the character was just lights and sound effects, as a wink and a nod and a way to add mystique to the character. The best part is that H.M. Inspector of Taxes wasn’t in on the joke, and sent “Jane Wren” a tax demand.
Monique Hamilton - We’ll get there… her name definitely means something though!
Moira Henley - She takes her name from her great-grandmother’s middle name. Margaret Henley was a young girl who was an acquaintance of Sir J. M. Barrie. The legend goes that she called him “friendy” but could not pronounce her Rs, so she actually said “fwendy.” Allegedly, Barrie dropped the letter F and found his heroine’s name - Wendy.
Nathaniel Thorn - Who is he? I’ll tell you one thing: this name is the only one that means absolutely nothing.
And I think that’s everyone so far! Forgive me for indulging, but I really like questions like these. Also, I didn’t keep good track of where they all came from, so I had to do a little digging myself, which was pretty fun! I hope you like the new names, we put a lot of thought into them, and there’s certainly more characters coming still!
