anne carson: simple moving poem about awkward dinners with not-quite-friends and the ennui that comes with realizing this mundane unhappiness is all adult life is sometimes
insane people on twitter: has she ever tried being happy? i like going to dinner with friends, what’s wrong with her? she can afford to go out to dinner, she shouldn’t complain. just be a cooler hang, skill issue. this isn’t my exact experience (i like my friends) therefore this poem is bad and unrelatable and pretentious. she can’t debone a fish? loser.

Long story short I dislike most modern retellings because they seem to be focused on "fixing" the ancient stories and breaking them to fit into their own moral box which is insanely self centered to me and hardly ever actually engages with the stories as they are

three days in the house of atreus ; act two
ORESTES: I was born here and can remember nothing of it.
PYLADES: Did you expect to remember something?
ORESTES: Someone’s face. The room I was meant to live in. The voice of my mother—the voice of my father.
PYLADES: Let us find his tomb before we go deeper into this lair.
ORESTES: I fear to see it. In my dreams, he is just behind a door. In my dreams, I see him still.
PYLADES: What does his face look like?
ORESTES: (Beat). Like mine.
