Darry Curtis hc because this day is shit and he's my comfort character
-Does that thing where he kind of dances/shimmies to music unconsciously. Steve made fun of him for it once, and ever since Darry’s tried to tone it down, but never really succeeds. (Steve never bugged him about it again because Sodapop got so mad at him for it)
-Doesn’t laugh often but when he does it’s the kind of laugh that’s completely contagious. Surprisingly Ponyboy’s sarcasm and Johnny’s dry quips end up making him laugh more than any of the rest of the gang’s bawdy or situational humour
-Makes the best scalloped potatoes known to man. Both Soda and Ponyboy practically beg him to make them for their birthdays or special occasions
-Ponyboy went with him to the gym once after windrixville when they were trying to find an activity to bond over and it ended with Ponyboy attempting to keep up with him and Darry having to practically carry him to the car. They decided Darry would teach Pony to drive as a bonding activity instead
-Was up for a promotion to foreman at his job that would have had a decent pay raise and didn’t tell Soda or Ponyboy about it. He made it to the final round of interviews but ultimately didn’t get it and was SUPER crushed. (Same Darry, same)
-His eye twitches when he’s pissed off but trying not to show it
-Sometimes when Ponyboy is out with friends or goes to bed early, Darry and Soda will have a mini conference where they discuss whether they think he’s doing ok because Darry is terrified of messing Pony up and needs the reassurance he’s doing a good job as guardian
-Taught Pony to shave and it was actually a really emotional time for him because their dad had taught both him and Soda how but wasn’t there to teach Ponyboy. It hurt even more because Ponyboy was so excited about the fact he finally HAD enough facial hair to need to shave and Darry was kind of punched in the chest remembering that Ponyboy is only fourteen, and that he’d had so much less time with their parents than he himself had.
-Doesn’t talk about the gang or his brothers at work. Not because he’s ashamed of being greasy or anything (a lot of guys on his work crew are east side guys) but because work is his only escape from being a leader/grown up and having to take care of everyone. In fact, he’s one of the youngest full time guys on the crew, and because of that he gets a lot of ‘shut up and listen to your elders’ kind of jokes from the guys in their thirties and forties, which he finds ironically funny on good days, and gets lowkey pissed off about on bad ones
-Has skipped meals when money is tight so that his brothers have enough food
-Didn’t regret fighting Paul at the rumble even though they’d been good friends in high school, because after the Curtis parents died Paul told him to let Pony and Soda go into care and to look out for himself and not ‘kids who aren’t your problem Darry’ and Darry never forgave him for it
-The gang and his brothers think he doesn’t have time for girls, and he doesn’t, not really, but he goes to the same diner during his lunch break each day to flirt with one of the waitresses there- a girl he went to high school with who was also meant for bigger things but got stuck in Tulsa just like him. (listen I’m multiship trash who also has a soft spot for tarry but this idea lives rent free in my head ok)
-His way of dealing with issues when he’s unsure is to just ask himself what his dad would do and if he doesn’t know what his dad would do he panics
-Is TERRIFIED of the dentist and so its the only thing he’s kind of lax about with Pony and Soda because he refuses to be a hypocrite and not go when he makes them go, but also…he’s terrified

goddamn how many bodyguards do you have
And
who ordered the 'depressing backstory'?
bodyguards;
Tails could feel his nervousness shoot through the roof as he followed Sonic to the field, one of his paws tightly gripping the metal bat the hedgehog told him to hold to keep him from picking at his fur as the other squeezed the older’s paw.
Tom and Maddie had decided that it'd be good for Tails to attend Sonic's practice today. It'd give him a chance to socialize with other kids without being too overwhelmed by it since they'll be more focused on practicing.
And while he didn't distrust the humans, he couldn't help but disagree. Being surrounded by a group of teenagers never ended well for him. He's fairly sure he's got some lasting marks to prove it, too. But the adults have done nothing but show him love and kindness, he didn't want to go against their wishes.
“Hey guys!” Sonic greeted with a wide smile, using the paw that wasn't holding onto the fox to wave at his baseball team. He got a few different greetings from his teammates in response, “My little bro is gonna watch us today.”
Tails’ ears pressed against his head when he was addressed, his cheeks flushing as he hid behind the hedgehog. He was still getting used to the title of being Sonic's brother, it felt like a dream.
“Finally!” One of the boys with brown hair, green eyes, and pale skin groaned, placing a hand on his hip as he gave Sonic a frown, “We've only been asking you to bring him for, like, forever!”
“Austin’s right!” A girl with much darker skin said, standing up from where she had been sitting on the ground. The beads in her braided hair clinked together as she ran up to the mobians. “We’ve been waiting for him!”
Tails squeaked quietly as Sonic laughed, “He wasn’t ready to come yet, Aniyah. He just got here a few months ago.” He explained, letting go of the fox's paw to pull him into a side hug.
this fic is basically me taking my brother's old baseball team and making them sonic's lmao
backstory:
Sonic nearly jumped out of his skin when he turned and came face to face with the little fox. He had just been up on the crow’s nest, how was he so silent?
Sails didn't look at him though. His eyes were staring at the deck of the Angel’s Voyage, “Ye want me tale, don't ya?” He asked, almost too quiet for the hedgehog to hear him.
“Huh?” Sonic blinked at the fox dumbfounded. It had only been an hour or so since their last interaction and the kit was obviously not in the mood to share his story any time soon. What changed?
“I..” The fox trailed off. His cheeks flushed red in what the older assumed was embarrassment before he turned to face the sea instead, “I'm sorry.”
“For what?” Sonic didn't think the kid needed to apologize for anything.
“For gettin’ agro with ye.” Sails grumbled, one of his tails raising so he could pick at the fur on it. “Rose and I talked, and–”
“Sails, no,” The teen interrupted the younger, shaking his head, “You're right to be upset with me. I pushed you too much. I'm sorry”
The kit looked up at him at that, blinking in surprise at the apology. He wasn't used to people saying sorry when they upset him.
“Whatever.” Sails said, shaking his head and looking away once again, “Do ye want me tale or not?"
"Only if you want to tell it." Sonic smiled at the fox despite knowing the kid wasn't looking at him. “It's your choice, kiddo.”
The fox turned to glare at him at the nickname, “Don't call me that.”
The hedgehog quickly nodded and raised his hands in a surrender, “Alright, alright. No nicknames, got it.”
finally revealing who's getting the depressing backstory lmao
i wanted to play around with the prime tails trio's past and this is sails's. i have gone into mangey and nine's too much just yet, but they'll get there own trauma <3

I need your brain to help pick apart a thought that I had in mind. What would happen if Shuggy was raised with the Whitebeard pirates? Idk what their rules are about carrying around kids in the seas but let's say they don't get docked onto the nearest island (i mean marco is in there too so)
Would Buggy be different? I think a big part of why he's insecure and why he's a "coward" is because he's standing on the shoulders of giants, he's part of the best crews of the seas and yet they expect him to be a monster like everyone else is in that ship, but in reality what if he just wants to go on adventures and get treasures without the need to sacrifice his limb and life for it? I love the Rogers pirates, and would love to believe in my heart of hearts that Buggy is as equally loved as Shanks but man, thinking about their flashback and seeing how Shanks gets the hat, and Shanks is praised by Roger and Crew, I don't think they completely understood the emotional side of how to raise children.
Which leads me to believe that Whitebeard probably knew better than Rogers and Rayleigh in that regard, he's got like so many found family kids and they're all willing to go to bat and die for their dad, and with Whitebeard wanting a family and calling his children his treasure, I think he'd be more sensitive about the feelings of his children. I think Whitebeard would help buggy understand how he differs from Shanks, but that does not make him inferior. He would probably encourage Buggy with all his inventions and bombs and slight of hand tricks.
Would Buggy also feel less alone because he sees other people in the crew who are also Whitebeard's children, and therefore he has brothers? Would he consider them family?
I haven't thought ahead with how much Shanks would change under Whitebeard, but I doubt it would change. Shanks is still star-pupil shanks, but this time instead of the crew praising him like Uncles to a nephew, it's adopted big brothers to a prodigy (also I brainrot buggy more but I think there can't be buggy without shanks and vice-versa, so they are a Do Not Separate pair)
Maybe it's just me desperately wanting buggy to have a father figure who loves him. My heart wants to believe Rogers and Rayleigh was that for him, but the manga chapters really doesn't show much about them giving him that attention, so I naturally drifted to the Dad Pirate of the Series, Whitebeard.
Thoughts?
You have a point, actually! I mean, imo, I've always thought (or liked to think) that Roger and Rayleigh loved Shanks and Buggy equally. They just treated them differently because they do have different personalities, after all. As somebody who understands Buggy's POV a lot, I think we shouldn't have to take it as the only, pure reality of all. We basically just have his POV on this situation and of course, for him, Shanks is going to be the favorite and he is going to be treated unfairly. I think most of that perception comes from his inferiority complex toward Shanks. Because yes, he was obviously the star-pupil and did get the hat and it's understandable that Buggy feels inferior. But that is not the whole truth and I don't think everything is Roger and Rayleigh's fault because of their way of raising them. I think that no matter the crew, Buggy would have still felt at least a bit of resentment and jealousy when it comes to Shanks. Shanks is just that type of person.
HOWEVER! You do have a point and it is that the Whitebeard pirates are way more family-focused and they seem to want to get the best of everybody individually. The reason why Whitebeard is so loved by his crew isn't really because of his power but because he gives them a place to belong and grow up. Roger's crew is a family too but as you said, they're giants and of course, Buggy is going to feel like a little bug in comparison if they expect him to be the same and praise Shanks for just existing when Buggy has to actually work to be seen that way.
I think these two being in that crew would've changed their personalities a bit. Buggy being more confident in himself and being raised with positive reinforcement and an environment that is actually a family would've been good for him and his self-esteem. His personality would clash with Shanks' a lot still, but you know, that's just how they are. Also, Shanks I think would be the same except that his need to please/save people would not be that strong since he doesn't have the responsibility of the world on his shoulders and no hat to deal with.
Don't get me wrong, maybe the break up would still happen. It would certainly happen, actually. Of course Roger's death wouldn't be the same for them in this context because originally he is basically their dad, and they don't have a crew to go back to and that fact adds more layers to their fight, but Buggy would still be ambitious and want to go for the One Piece, and Shanks would want to wait. And I think that no matter the context they're both stubborn and emotional and refuse to talk things out. Although maybe being with Whitebeard would help them in that context but, you know, I think Shanks and Buggy are the type of duo that NEED to break up for them to work later on in the story.
This whole AU has a lot of unsolved questions like-- Buggy's fruit and whether they'd like to leave the crew or not etc etc. But. I think the point here is more about their dynamic, right? I think they'd be more emotionally stable after all. Maybe they're more open about their issues too, and Buggy probably wouldn't have the "he made me eat the fruit and lost my map" excuse to hate Shanks. I think the big change here would be Buggy actually being dangerous and using his full potential instead of holding back. That is... Worrying. I love him.

Story inspired by and written for @gabykatttt ❤️
The Trolls are off on a small journey with Velvet and Veneer at their heels. All seems to be going well, until Veneer begins to spew random nicknames for Branch.
Branch, unsurprisingly, begins to grow tiresome of Veneers desperation for his friendship… and he makes it known.
The Trolls decided to take the twins on a stroll throughout the Troll Kingdom. They had already been to Pop Troll, next was the Rock Trolls.
Velvet wasn’t one for picnics, hiking, or nature in general… but right now, for Veneer, she would try anything.
“Let’s keep going guys! Come one we’re almost there!” Poppy chimed.
“Seriously? We have to walk more? Uuugghhh.” Velvet moaned.
“Stop whining and keep climbing.” Branch stated. “We’re walking 100x more than you and we’re not complaining.”
“Oh hush grudge troll.” Velvet exclaimed.
“You got it Tree Branch!” Veneer called out. Velvet looked at him with a questionable look. Branch and some of the other Trolls raised an eye brow…. Veneer flushed red out of embarrassment.
“Ummm, okay.” Branch replied. Veneer pulled his beanie further down, nearly enough to cover his eyes.
“The hell was that Veneer.” Velvet whispered to her brother as the fell a little behind the trolls.
“Was that too much?” He asked.
“Way, WAY too much.”
“…oh god.”
What was Veneer thinking? Tree Branch? That was too obvious. He adored Branch and just really wanted his friendship. Veneer could feel that Branch was still closed off, that he had a lot more walls to tear down before gaining Branches trust.
“Alright guys! Let’s rest up here a bit!” Poppy called out.
“Oh thank god!” Velvet over exaggerated, falling to the ground letting out a big sigh. “That was the longest walk of my life.” She grabbed her water and gulped it down desperately. Veneer opened his bag to take out his own.
“How are you not tired Bitty B.” John Dory stretched his legs and arms.
“Only the strong willed JD , only the strong willed.” Branch replied with a satisfied grin.
“Branch-a-roo, you want some of my water?” Veneer asked. This earned a giggle from Branches brothers, except Floyd. He made a face of disapproval to his laughing brothers.
“Um, no thank you. And it’s just Branch.”
“Oh! Okay sorry.” Veneer turned bright red as he took a seat next to his sister.
“Oh come on now, Branch-a-roo.” Clay teased. Branch balled his little fists. Veneer had been humiliating him the entire trip. He knew the kid wanted to be friends, but Veneer was terrible at reading people, terrible to know that Branch wanted to be left a lone.
“Rest up and then let’s go.” Branch muttered as he walked away.
Moments passed before they gathered their strength again to continue making their way to the rock troll kingdom. The trip took longer as they stopped to side see, showing the twins their own little world. Veneer was glued to his phone taking pictures left and right. He forced Velvet to pose with him on some, Poppy and Viva happily joining in on others, he even got one with Floyd. Veneer smiled at the pictures in his phone; other than Velvet of course, he felt like he actually had friends for the first time, but someone was missing.
“Hey Branchster! Want to take a picture together?” He called out with a smile on his face. Branch winced when he heard Veneer call, his brothers giggling at the growing progression of nicknames the Rageoun was coming up for the little Troll.
“No.” Branch stated firmly.
“Oh come on Branchy! Just one! I need one with all my friends.” The Rageoun smiled.
“….I’m not your friend.” He said softly, but at the same time loud enough for others to hear. A frown came across Veneers face.
“Oh?”
“I’m not your friend, so stop giving me nicknames. It’s just Branch.”
Veneer looked at his phone, pretending to scroll through his pictures… but his sister was the one to notice the sadness in his eyes.
“Okay.” Veneer said as he turned away pretending to take more pictures, but as soon as he faced away, the tears started falling. He quietly walked away into the thicket. Velvet casted a look of anger on the small gloomy Troll.
“Was that necessary!” She demanded.
“I’m not his friend.” Branch repeated.
“Can’t you at least try?” Floyd asked. Branch crossed his arms and turned away.
“He’s been making this trip miserable with all the stupid nicknames.” Branch said.
“The only one making it miserable is you, troll!” Velvet placed her hands on her hips, scowling at Branch. “You know what, me and Veneer are fine. We’ll see the Rock Troll Kingdom another time!” She turned and stormed away in search of her brother.
Branch couldn’t help but feel a small sense of guilt. Veneer was too much at times, Branch just wasn’t used it. What didn’t help was that he still held that bitterness towards the twins, as much as they tried. Branch would never understand why Veneer looked up to him, what he saw in him. He looked at Poppy…she had been the same way at one point. Pestering Branch even though he’d make it clear he wanted to be alone… and now she was the best thing had ever happened to him. Poppy had brought out the best in him… he couldn’t help but see a resemblance in what Veneer was doing… the kid really just wanted a friend… Branch just so happened to be the lucky one….he let out a deep sigh. He headed off in search of the twins.
Velvet and Veneer sat in a small clearing against a tree.
“I guess this isn’t so bad.” Velvet said looking at the nature around her. Her eyes fell upon her brother, hugging his knees, staring at the ground.
“Mm hm.” Was all he replied…
“Ven, can you stop thinking about what Branch told you?”
“…. Why has it been so hard for me to make friends?”
“Aren’t I your friend goofball?”
Veneer smiled. “Yeah but you’re my sister…that doesn’t count.”
“Ouch. That one hurt.”
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry! That’s not what I mean!” He cried pulling his beanie over his eyes. Velvet smiled. A small sound of brushes against the trees caused them to turn around… a small Troll popped out amongst the leaves.
“Hey.” Branch simply said. Velvet huffed turning her brother to face away from the Troll. “Come on Velvet that’s not fair.”
“Let’s go Vennie.” She stood up pulling her brother along with her.
“Wait please!”Branch called out. Veneer was the one to stop, turning to look at the small Troll. Velvet tried to keep pulling him, but he wouldn’t budge.
“Look Veneer, I’m sorry.” Branch began. “I’m just not used to all this…attention… other than from Poppy. I always try to make sure I’m not noticed by anyone and here you come… noticing me. I- I don’t know how to handle it. Then my brothers don’t help in making fun of me… but none of that is your fault. You just want a friend…” Veneer took in the small Trolls words, contemplating what he should say, or if he should say anything at all.
“…. I’m sorry Branch… I wasn’t really good at making friends… still am. I hear everyone call you cool names, I started feeling left out. But if you don’t want me to call you nicknames I won’t. I promise!” Veneer fiddled with his thumbs as he confessed. Velvet stood behind him waiting to pounce on the little Troll if she needed too. Branch took a look at Veneer… he really was just a kid… they both were. Kids who were misguided and groomed… if there was any hope for them, Branch had to start changing his ways. He allowed the silence to linger for a moment before he spoke.
“Are you still up for that picture?” The Troll finally asked. A wide smile grew on Veneers face.
Velvet only rolled her eyes in disgust. Veneer took out his phone and pulled his sister along to join in the picture.
“This is vile.” She said.
“You’re nothing BUT vile.” Branch murmured as he hopped on Veneers shoulder getting ready to smile for the picture. “By the way… Branchster had a nice ring to it.”
Veneers smile spread from ear to ear.

Haiii! :3
I'm not sure if you write for König, but if you do here is my request! >w<
König with a civilian he adopted as his little sister. He seems like he would make the best big brother.
That’s actually really adorable:))
I see it happening if König and his team had to get rid of some terrorists and they didn’t know there were children involved. So I’d imagine that little girl to be the daughter of a terrorist they killed. He would really debate just giving her up to an orphanage, but the way she clings to him really awakened an urge to take care of her. So he would ultimately end up adopting her. I don’t see him take a fatherly role, but more of a big brother.
Would definitely hire a live in nanny. With how much he is deployed, the little girl would end up being raised mainly by the nanny. But he would always call to check in and bring a lot of gifts from wherever he was deployed. Would probably even get the nanny a car to drive the kid everywhere, and would send a lot more money than they need.
I do see him eventually start a relationship with said nanny though.

Fem! Reader x Scout with reader meeting Scouts Ma and/or brothers for the first time? 👉👈🥺
fem!reader meets scout's family for the first time
waahhh this ask was so cute I'm sorry it took so long !!! here ya go
includes: Scout, Scout's Ma, Scout's brothers
cute romantic, fem!reader, fluff
warnings: n/a, this is basically all fluff
You've been dating Scout for a bit now, and he decided it was time for you to meet his Ma.
You get a day away from the base and he takes you to his home to meet her; and some of his older brothers.
Note: We will be calling his brothers that you'll meet Ricky, Aaron, Lionel, Frank, and Daniel. The other two are off on business for plot reasons i guess
When you arrive at the house, Scout is holding your hand. He pulls you eagerly up the porch steps to the door and rings the bell, rocking back and forth on his heels in a cute, nervous sort of movement as he waits for his Ma to answer.
The moment the door opens, and Ma sees you, her face lights up. She recognizes you from Scout's descriptions of you when he called home and from the few photos he's sent her.
"Oh! I've heard so much about you dearie!" Her bright red lips form a grin as she takes your hand in both of hers, happy as can be. "It's so wonderful to finally meet you!"
You're quickly led into the house and told to take a seat at the table. "I can't believe my darling Jeremy finally got a girl of his own!"
Ma has a meal prepared for you, and she's very quick to set it up! She charters her older boys to set the table, but makes sure you don't have to do anything. She nudges Scout and he fumbles, realizing she wants him to help. With a sheepish smile he brings you your plate.
You're a bit overwhelmed by everyone, but they seem very friendly! You count five of the seven older brothers Scout mentioned having, and they all sit down at the long table with you and his Ma.
Though they're all at least 24, some of te younger ones are pretty rowdy, but most of them are pretty well behaved. Mama didn't raise no brats.
"All right, dears, say hello to your brother's gal!"
Each of them say your name overlapping in hellos and his, all of them seeming genuinely happy to meet you.
"Now, darling, I gotta tell you, I am so happy you're here! It's so good my baby Jerry finally has a girl in his life. I know you're just perfect and he better be treatin' you right. He is, right?" She shoots a glance at Scout.
You assure her he's doing great and she smiles, seeming relieved. He's likely had his share of messy relationships; nothing too bad of course, just him being him.
While Ma can certainly be a lot, she's much more open and inviting compared to some of the other parents of past partners you may have had. She's very easy to warm up to and you find yourself talking to her easily.
She starts telling you and embarrassing story about when Scout was younger. His brothers start laughing and she tells them all to shush. The further she goes, the more Scout's face reddens. He groans. "Aw, Ma, c'mon..."
You like hearing those stories, and you giggle when you hear them.
Lionel, Scout's third oldest brother, also starts talking. He's got a job in business, married with two little kids, and he's happy Scout's with you. He really sees that you love each other and he believes you're the best match he's had. He loves you tons.
Frank and Daniel, the twin brothers who are two years older than Scout, are by far the loudest, but they are definitely respectful towards women. When they call you ma'am, Scout's Ma winks at you. She taught 'em how to treat a lady. They ask you tons of questions, especially teasing ones about Scout, and you have fun talking to them.
Aaron, who is the next oldest after the twins, tells you that he's an aeroplane pilot. He tests aeroplanes but doesn't fly them commercially. His eyes are bright and he's more than happy to tell you about what it's like flying. "It's awesome. You go 'bout that far up and your ears pop like you're hiking or something."
Ricky is sandwiched between Aaron and Lionel in age, and he tells you he's a writer. He asks you a lot about whatever interests or profession you may have, eagerly paying attention to every word you say.
After a while, the conversations spread out, everyone talking to everyone.
Scout sits there, far more quiet than usual in this circumstance. He seems to want to talk, but only really to you or his Ma.
She senses this and shoos everyone else away, leaving just you three alone.
"Look, I'm awful sorry if that was too much for you. Everyone got so excited and wanted to see ya, ya know? But they're all done now, 'kay?"
When you're all three alone, Scout seems a lot more excited and willing to talk. He's loud as always but far more nice than he is in public, telling his Ma how much he loves you and she's so happy to see him this happy. So are you.
You're so glad Ma loves you, and you hug her tight when you have to go. She gives you a kiss on the cheek and smiles. While Scout gets in the car, she says, just to you, "take care, hun. You're the one for him, I just know it."

THEYRE (the chain) ALL AUTISTIC ESPECIALLY THE ERAS WAR TRIO!! IN THIS TEDTALK I WILL-
mask was, ironically, very low masking
warriors was (and still kinda is) VERY high masking
(Tune is somewhere in the middle + ADHD)
mask really struggled at first on the battlefield because of his extreme lack of social skills (dude was raised in the woods with a bunch of other autistic fairy kids), lack of danger awareness, and poor understanding of war/battlefield (he’s used to 1-1 boss fights not war), and the fact that as a kid, he was already much much higher support needs, not even mentioning how traumatized he must’ve been.
warriors was drowning in stress, a literally TEENAGER (I hc him being 16-20 during the war) severely masking and like, PHYSICALLY UNABLE TO STOP. Among all the other non-neurodivergent stressors (cia, A WAR, parenting two kids in battle, food issues)
warriors helped mask learn tips for surviving the neurotypical world** (TM) and made sure he was 100% accommodated, since warriors knew he, himself would never have that.
Mask subtly (and probably accidentally) pushed warriors to mask less, creating a safe space where the three bros could all be them selves. He’d throw the biggoron sword if someone so much as looked NEAR where warriors was when he was stimming, ready to fight the h8ters if necessary.
later on, the trio (and now 6 more!) rejoin, and time is pleasantly surprised to see that warriors has kept some of the mentality. Granted, he’s not made any progress since then, but he’s not gotten worse, so that’s something.
Warriors is also quietly content that time has retained the social skills he taught him, in fact, he’s picked up even more! Though he finds it hard to find time at all scary, intimidating, or powerful, because warriors knows EXACTLY what is going through time’s head when he makes that face, I mean, he taught his brother himself!
warriors now has to face the living proof that he’s not weird or broken, lest he tell that to his eight brothers who are nowhere near as masking as he is, culture shock!
**DISCLAIMER!!
I know that the idea of “normalizing” autistic kids via teaching them neurotypical behaviors is a very complex and nuanced conversation to be had, and I’m not trying to parade around supporting ABA. (not to make this about me or anything,) but this pov/head cannon/prompt (?) is inspired from the perspective of me and my lower masking/much higher support needs sibling (both are autistic) :)
Your favorite,
-MANDARIN WARRIORS
I love you for this oh my god
To me, one of the things Mask struggles with the most besides social cues is controlling his facial expressions when especially when talking to others, which is why the other Links just automatically assumed he was the stoic silent type, because they saw this serious looking older guy who rarely smiles and were like “oh he means business-” but really he just has very flat expressions. Similarly I think he’s very dry when he speaks, it was worse when he was younger, and he’d gotten better at making himself sound more excited/happy, but occasionally the others (not including Wars) think he’s being sarcastic when he isn’t. And this is part of why they can never tell if he’s joking about having fought the moon.
With how chaotic his childhood was (and also because of the autism), to me he’s someone who really needs stability and predictably, which is why ranch work is sooo good for him. Like yeah unexpected things happen, but he can also sit there and take care of the animals and know he will be taking care of the animals the next day (also I think braiding Epona’s mane would be both comforting for him AND the horse)
Warriors is someone I can see stressing out so much about how people view him and he’s so scared of being anything less than perfect that he ends up getting trapped masking and everything just builds up until he explodes. He certainly was not coping well during the war, with everything that was going on, but I totally agree that Mask helped him mask less. Those two absolutely helped each other, both intentionally and completely by accident. By the time he’s in his mid/late twenties, he’s gotten a lot better about not letting everything build up, and also at unmasking every once in a while when he feels safe. (you’re so right, time/mask would fight ANY haters on wars’s behalf)
Everything you said was so perfect and I love it!! I’ve written one fic centering around these two being autistic (although I didn’t explicitly state that because I don’t know if they’d have like, the medical diagnosis for that in hyrule), and i really need to write more. I myself am autistic and good autism rep is really important to me because I never saw it as a kid
You’re literally my favorite at this point, mandarin wars anon, I hope you’re having a good day 🫶

I never liked the idea that Luffy is a nepo baby because of the positions Garp and Dragon hold, because they have done fuck-all for him - least of all use their positions of power to somehow bolster Luffy's own.
Legitimately the only major part Garp and Dragon played in Luffy's life was abandoning him, making other people to raise him in their stead (Dadan). Luffy only interacts with Garp and Dragon and collective of three times outside of flashbacks, and yes in those moments they did either help him escape (Dragon) or weren't actively trying to kill/apprehend him like they were ordered to do (Garp). But, and I cannot stress this enough, a parental figure not wanting their child to die/not wanting to kill their child is literally the bare-fucking-minimum. Luffy's not a nepo baby because Garp doesn't want to kill him, it just makes Garp a slightly less shit person.
Iva helping Luffy out because they work with Dragon is similar, they want to help Dragon's son save Ace (who Iva in that moment also thought was Dragon's son) from being executed. Wanting to help your friend's kid save their brother is not nepotism, it's just being a good person. Like, Dragon having friends surrounding him who are willing to help him or his kid in moments of need is just good community building, an aspect that One Piece as a story has always put emphasis on. A person needs good people surrounding them who have their back and vice vera. A lone person cannot get very far in the world of One Piece, but a group of people dedicated to helping each other achieve their goals will.
Also, it should also be noted that the no one outside of Garp and Strawhats knew that Luffy was related to Dragon until Marineford. Hell, LUFFY HIMSELF didn't know Dragon was his father until Post Ennis Lobby. To benefit from nepotism people - or at the very least people in positions of power - need to know who your family is, and for the first 17 years of Luffy's life, the majority of people didn't. They thought he was some rookie upstart from the East Blue, because he was. No one knew who the hell he was for the longest time, and it was only through his fights with strong, notorious pirates, and insane stunts like declaring war of the World Government that Luffy became more well known.
I know a lot of people mean this as a joke, but it's one of the One Piece takes (joking or not) that truly gets under my skin. Nepotism has a specific meaning - a person gaining power though family connections in the same or similar field - and I just don't see how Luffy fits that meaning.

Prompt 115
“Seriously old man?” the rumbling voice nearly caused Tim to jump, his eyes darting away from where Ras was sitting, the Al Ghul almost seeming to perk. It was kind of hard to miss the man… teen… being? It was kind of hard to miss the owner of the voice what with how their hair looked like it was on fire.
They motioned around at well, everything, crimson eyes looking exasperated. “Really?” They were definitely motioning towards him, interrupting Ras when he opened his mouth to talk. “No, I don’t want to hear it, I swear- Did he kidnap you?” That was definitely aimed at him.
“N-no?” Tim was feeling slightly unbalanced and may be on hour sixty without sleep at this point, if the hour long nap was counted. “I need help finding my not-dad who's lost in time.”
The being let out a strangled noise that Tim could nearly swear was almost another one, but couldn’t vocalize his slurred thoughts as the dude muttered something, motioning around as though he was tempted to strangle something or someone.
Ras cleared his throat, looking almost awkward which was how Tim knew he had to be dreaming or drugged. Probably drugged. “Jordan, how good to see you, it’s been so long-”
“Can it Pops,” the being-named-Jordan scoffed, finger pointing towards the Demon’s Head. “Moms still pissed and isn’t coming back any time soon with you still pulling this shit.”
Tim felt his brain stall, process for a moment, then process some more over what he just heard before his mouth ran before it could catch up. “Ras is married???”

ok not to be like he’s just like me fr…. but chayanne is just like me fr…..
i’m also the oldest child with one younger sibling who needed a lot more care when we were kids and therefore was deprived of certain needs in favor of my brother. i also had a parent that was missing a lot and depended almost solely on my dad. obviously tallulah needs more help than chay, with her asthma and lesser fighting skills, not to mention she had only been playing minecraft for like a month? or two before wilbur found her. and chay knows that! he knows that she needs more help than he does he knows he’ll do anything for her he knows he has to be the strongest to protect her. my brother and i are only a year apart but i was forced to grow up very very quickly bc i was on my own a lot as a kid while my brother was sick. phil doesn’t worry abt chay when he runs off bc he doesn’t need to, chay can take care of himself. hell, he took care of all the eggs when they first left. but at the same time, it’s comforting to know ur parent is looking out for u even when u don’t need it. phil’s not a smothering parent, he’s attentive, but not smothering. but let’s be real he can also be emotionally constipated LMAO but that leads to situations like the argument and frustration between chay and tallulah when dapper was kidnapped. in his defense, he’s never been a parent before and had 2 children thrust upon him to raise on his own. he didn’t have a lot of time to adjust to parenthood like ppl in real life do, he suddenly had 2 children who had their own thoughts and opinions and emotional needs, he didn’t get the time it takes to LEARN abt how to provide that specific care and while some ppl have that innate knowledge there is a lot of learning and navigating when it comes to emotional vulnerability and regulation esp when it comes to children who are figuring it out as well. i feel for chay when he thinks he needs to be the strongest. i feel for chay when he had to make the decision to gather the eggs and leave. i feel for chay when he had to take blame for bad things happening. and i feel for chay when he realized tallulah doesn’t need him as much anymore. my brother and i are both adults now and we had a …… tumultuous relationship as teenagers for reasons that were both our own and caused by problems outside our control. but i still remember exactly how devastating it was the moment i realized that he was fine on his own. that he didn’t need me anymore. and it caused a rift between us; on my end bc i was frustrated and felt tossed aside and on his end bc he NEEDED to be independent to keep growing. i see so much of myself in chay and i desperately wish he and tallulah had a better mediator for their argument, or at least someone who could truly understand why they were so upset. i don’t think phil clocked that tallulah was so upset and adamant abt looking for dapper bc it was just her dapper and ramon surviving on their own. just bc phil didn’t witness it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen and it doesn’t mean that they don’t have a much tighter relationship than they had before purgatory. and when chayanne said everyone was blaming him for the decisions he made phil was quick to tell him that no one was blaming him but also phil doesn’t know that! he doesn’t know if any blame was put on chayanne when it was just the eggs together. chayanne made the decision for the eggs to run and they trusted him bc he’s the oldest and he’s strong and he can be a leader but by running he also put the eggs thru a lot of pain and fear that they may not have gone thru if they stayed with their parents. and even if the eggs didn’t explicitly say that they blamed chayanne im sure he blamed himself for every little thing that went wrong. we’ve already seen him open up a tiny bit abt how he was questioning his decision to leave. but phil told him that chay made the best decision he could have given the information he had at the time which is true! but when ur the oldest and everyone is looking to u, all of the responsibility lies on ur shoulders. chayanne has been carrying SO much weight on his shoulders for so long it breaks my heart.
