listening - stellaron hunters
Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary; you cannot see the reality in front of you but you can hear it. and yet it sounds so painful.
genre/extra tags; headcanons, angst ig?, hurt/comfort (questionably executed), reader has torchwick's (rwby) cane weapon thing but not really, reader has the hunt path and lighting as combat type, i'm seeing in 4d right now with how im setting this specific reader up rn, actual lore executed badly
[platonic] [teen reader] [gender neutral]
[warnings; mentions of eye injuries, insecurities/doubts about one's self, weapons mentioned quite a bit]
[buy me a kofi]
a/n; sorry this took me almost a month (maybe longer depending on when i finish this work). got distracted very quickly by other things and then i got writer's block for a while. whatever so. i'll describe reader's weapon in the headcanons, don't worry. hope you enjoy.
Tumblr media
you were an unexpected addition to the hunters. i mean you're so young compared to everyone else, what makes you so adamant on joining this group
i guess we'll never know /ref
but like all the hunters, you hold power just as heavy as the rest.
of course it wasn't for free. you worked hard in your homeland and you earned your path and power.
but you wanted to find something. something was missing.
you didn't know what.
but then you found the stellaron hunters.
you heard about the stellaron and you wanted to know more. you wanted to see it.
and somehow, elio had accepted you.
and you were now a hunter.
before you lost your sight, you were very skilled with tech like silver wolf. you loved making weapons or machinery
you worked behind the scenes and on the stage, so to speak
your preferred weapon was a sniper. and occasionally if you felt lazy, you would have a small turret by your side that would do the work for you
but imagine the absolute devastation you felt when you lost your eyesight in the middle of a mission. or more like during the mission
with your power, it was powerful but unstable
you could kill one enemy with ease but that would require high control with your lightning and careful aim with your sniper
unfortunately you have to control the lightning through your hands on onto the sniper so when you aim down the sights (i dont know how to describe it other than in gamer terms) that lightning has a chance to backfire and hit your eye
through that you managed to lose your sight overtime but this mission accelerated it
and you never felt so devastated
your power betrayed you and on top of that, it was in the middle of a battle and the enemies took an opportunity to take you down quickly.
blade and kafka were there to help clean up at least
but they couldn't handle the lost mess you were
"why can't i see anymore? why?" was the only mutters they heard from you
when you were taken back to base, you were attended to, much to your dismay and fear.
your usually hard headed behavior crumbled within 10 mins after you lost your vision
you felt weak
you felt helpless
you didn't feel strong anymore
your eyes were no longer functional, there's an irregular pattern that traces over your eyes and there's faint marks over the eye area you used the most for sniping.
blade describes the pattern as an angry lightning storm that doesn't end
and when you're done being cared for, you don't leave your room
when you do, you're dragged by kafka or silverwolf (occasionally blade but he just carries you roughly)
you feel like a burden every time you sit at the meeting table
you can hear everything with your vision gone
and you hate it
you want to see again but you know you won't
eventually you find your courage to start to navigate the base on your own
you find yourself in your abandoned lab with blade by your side
"stop frowning like that"
"that's a lot coming from you"
"you're really going to let this eye sight stop you?"
"well i can't exactly wield metal anymore. and i can't use my sniper rifle cane, what do you think i should do, boy genius?"
you feel him open your hand to show your palm and you feel a cold metal touch your hand. you start feeling it properly.
"this is my sniper rifle, blade."
"well, maybe it doesn't have to serve as a sniper. you don't need to take the first shot to kill."
and with that in mind, you become like a follow-up attacker
you train endlessly to improve yourself as much as possible.
you ask silver wolf to help you modify your weapon to work for you (you kind of backseated her about it despite being unable to see what she was doing)
and you now have a multi-functioning cane.
it functions as a gun, a mobility cane to help you walk and "see", and a melee weapon if you hit someone hard enough (which isn't really hard since it's made of a lightweight metal)
and of course if worse comes to worse and you need to deal with a bunch of enemies at once, it can release a powerful strike of lightning (similar to jingyuan ult). you have to let go of your cane so you don't get hurt but ehh small price to pay to save your ass, you know?
i think that since you're a teen in this, the hunters don't really pay attention to your feelings as well as they should
none of them really know how to comfort a teen. which makes sense.
blade and silver wolf are blunt in their own ways
kafka is very avoidant or she speaks so confusingly that you dont even bother
but when they really see you visit your unused lab everyday, they slowly start to understand that you had a part of you taken and you won't ever live your life the way you want to
but surely this is the work of elio. elio knew this was coming, and he knew you would be fine.
it takes a while for the others to tell you that you're not the burden you think you are. they try their best to comfort you even if it's really awkward bc they don't know how to comfort you properly yet
but you appreciated it.

Last night I innocently uploaded the pic of Neo and Ruby gaming on Twitter, but I got pretty much replied by people who were very much judgmental and passive-aggressive about being shocked, etc, etc (lots of them minors), lost some followers, etc
I am very affected by those situations because at some points it feels like harassment for something so stupid (I've seen wishes of death towards me before for old Fallen Petals stuff), no one ever takes the moment to even talk with me about it, nor try to understand the development and process that made me ship it in the first place- that it's actually a pretty innocent wish of building up a cool ship to have fun with my friends.
I have very bad anxiety from PTSD and I don't have access to meds rn, so things that get out of hand can really affect my mental and physical health, like, people don't keep in mind that the major part of the time, the people they accuse are people with problems like me, that are dealing with irl stuff or trauma and simply want to have some positive fun on the internet, to escape a bit from it all- art and writing has been a good coping mechanism for me to not practice self harm, and my therapist was actually proud of me for it, so I don't want that taken from me, specially when I'm mindful and tag things properly. And when honestly, discovering RWBY and messing around with some ships helped to make me happier. Because I think it was about time.
RubyNeo isn't even following all canon details, Ruby's more practiced and slightly older, and honest to God, I don't see what's wrong with building an AU with headcanons when we aren't doing it for the sake of, what?? only having them fuck?? or oversexualizing them?? the people that literally oversexualizes Ruby and only do lewds or only smash her against another character so they fuck is something that pushes me SO back because I personally find it disgusting (and if I'm in a mood I can have am anxiety attack for it, same for other dynamics, like incest, etc etc).
So for the love of everything, blacklist, block me or whatever, but understand the kind of person I am or the building for the things I do or the things I draw before I'm labeled as things I'm not. Because I'm sure you wouldn't want it to happen to you.
Treat me like a person, not like some kind of idealized artist that has to be perfect.
Show some empathy, try to be understanding, not everyone that ships 'x' is going to be a super evil person that did it with the most malicious intent in the world. Sometimes we're simply playing with them like they're Barbies, to create stories, angst, wholesome moments, independent timelines, etc.
Like I mentioned I myself deal with PTSD, there are so many things that despite being presented in good faith could throw me off the edge because of triggers, but I simply take care of myself and tag stuff, I blacklist and in the worst case I block, specially if someone is specially harmful and toxic to real people.
So please, just, let me be, I'm just a nerd trying to live life alongside friends to be as happy as I can because I've had enough abuse already.
Be kinder unless the person in question is GENUINELY harming real people and are potential real creeps, please, I'm tired.

...So...about the TENTH episode of RWBY V9 a.k.a the season finale....
There is so much to unpack from this finale episode. Forgive me if my thoughts and musings are going to be all over the place since…that’s honestly how I felt walking away from this episode.
Where do I even begin?
Okay---first impressions only---I’m just gonna come out and say that I was a bit disappointed that Ruby didn’t change at all in the end. I mean, I figured she would keep some aspect of herself but the fact that she basically came back as the old her left me feeling…I dunno, baited?
I mean what was the point of having Ruby go through all of that if ultimately she was just going to remain her old self?
I mean, sure. Her experience in the Ever After probably changed her in some way from a psychological standpoint but…on the surface, Ruby just looked like the only thing she gained was her confidence in herself.
And when I look at it from that point of view, I guess it’s not so bad. But, on the other hand, I can’t help but feel like it almost cheapens everything that Ruby went through in the season.
All that angst just for her to come out the same way? Really? They couldn’t even have her change her weapon or change her outfit? Something to symbolize a difference?
I dunno. I mean, I’m glad Ruby didn’t change too much in terms of her design but I’m not gonna pretend that I’m not slightly soured by the fact that, after all of that development, nothing really changed about Ruby. She’s still the same. I could only assume her personality changed. I guess we’ll have to see how much the Ever After has affected Ruby moving forward into the next chapter of the story.
Another thing that bummed me about the conclusion to the Ever After story was that after all that, it still didn’t help solve how the heroes are going to stop Salem though? So in a sense, we’re back to square zero somewhat with our heroes returning to Remnant with no knowledge of how to stop Salem.
There is one interesting detail though. We now know that Raven is connected to the night that Summer Rose disappeared and presumably died. I find this little detail quite interesting and a bit strange cause, correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t there a RWBY DC comic that took place after Summer had died in terms of storyline where Ruby went around asking about her mother and then she met Raven, in bird form, who said a bunch of mean things about Summer, giving the impression that there was some animosity towards Summer from Raven.
Yet, here in V9 finale, it was revealed that Raven was there the night she disappeared/killed by Salem. So what happened? What really happened? Just when I figured the whole mystery behind Summer was resolved last season in V8, V9 just swooped in and completely obliterated that.
So there is more to the story and apparently whatever choice Summer made that night she took off on a mission will probably hold the true key to stopping Salem somehow.
Pushing aside the negatives I had with the episode, I thought this finale was epic. The final fight between RWBYJ and the Curious Cat was some of the best combat animation I’ve seen from the show in a long time.
I also loved the extra bit of lore we received from the Blacksmith. So basically, the Blacksmith is the personification of the Tree and in another surprising twist, it turns out that the Brother Gods are creations of the Tree.
Here I was thinking that the Ever After was another world that the Brothers created together when in actuality, the Ever After created the Brother Gods.
I also liked the tidbit from the Blacksmith about how when the brothers created the Jabberwalker, despite its destructive power, the Brothers---at least the God of Light, refused to kill their creation.
I found this interesting because it provided an explanation as the why the Brothers---at least the God of Light, never got rid of Salem. Technically, Salem got her immortality from the God of Light after she first fell into his pool. Although the God of Darkness was quick to eradicate all of humanity---highlighting that Darkness has no problem killing his own creations. Light on the other hand is strongly against this which would explain why Salem was just left to her devices.
I mean, it still doesn’t provide the best explanation for that little plot hole from the Lost Fable, but it’s still something that makes sense within the lore of the show so I’ll take it for now.
That being said, since the Brother Gods who made Remnant are the by product of the Tree of the Ever After then surely this will NOT be the last time we see of this mysterious world and the Blacksmith.
Our heroes will have to go back to the Ever After at some point since a) we’ll need to see what happened to Neo following her transformation, b) we’ll need to see what became of Little Somewhat and Juniper after RWBYJ left and most importantly of all, if the Ever After created the Gods then surely there must be a way to undo Salem’s immortality in the Ever After; specifically the Tree.
Unless it’ll be the case where Salem will learn about the Tree and set her sight on going their herself? Who knows. Will see how that goes in time, I suppose.
Glad Jaune was able to get some closure for what happened with Alyx. Also glad to see that they deaged him back to his younger self but not exactly?
Anyone else noticed that Jaune-y still kept his ole man streaks? So even though Jaune is back to his old self, his memories and experience from the Ever After still remain with him.
So for all the Jaune stans in the audience, Jaune is gonna probably be a badass next season combat-wise cause, he's still "mature" on the inside despite being young again. I kinda like that touch.
Tumblr media
Also Weiss giggling at Jaune reacting to his old voice is giving me hope for White Knight next season. Just cause Jaune is young again doesn't mean he isn't mature on the inside so Weiss might like that a lot next season.
Tumblr media
Then there is the ending where the Blacksmith dropped RWBYJ.
I find it interesting that the Blacksmith told RWBYJ that the door will take them when they are needed the most. Not where.
When meaning a specific point in time when they are needed. So…does this mean there’s a timeskip?
When RWBYJ walked through the portal, they were in front of Vacuo but…Amity Tower (or what looks like Amity Tower) is there and there are (what looks like) Altesian airships in the sky above the kingdom?
Tumblr media
I could be deeply mistaken about the airships being Atlesian since Atlas fell but that is definitely Amity Tower??? Which means Maria and Pietro are alive?
Tumblr media
All in all, it wouldn’t surprise me if there was a timeskip between the time RWBYJ disappeared into the Ever After. Whether that skip was in months or years, we’ll have to wait for a V10 to confirm.
Either way, I truly hope there was a timeskip.
All in all, that’s all I have to say for the season finale of V9 as a first impression.
Overall, not lying to say, I think V9 was really good season. Definitely BETTER than V8. Unlike V8, I’m leaving V9 with rejuvenated faith in the writing and story of RWBY. V9 was a solid season. Even though I had some issues with one or two things from the finale, I enjoyed pretty much every episode of this season. There wasn’t an episode where I felt bored or disconnected wit
Y’know what I just realized. Neo, in a sense, became both the Jabberwalker and the Curious Cat. Not only did she kill or absorb the Jabberwalker (somehow) but she also killed the Curious Cat. The last scene with her before she went to the tree is her summoning the Jabberwalkers to kill the cat.
The Cat was created to fix broken Afterans while the Walker was made to balance it out. But as of now, neither the Walker or the Cat exist anymore since Neo kind of killed them both. So, does this mean that Neo will become a sentient being meant to replace both the Cat and the Walker?
That’s what I wanna know. What will Neo become in the end? But that’s a potential story for another prospective season.
Overall, I enjoyed V9. For me, V9 is the best season to come out of the CRWBY Writer Quartet. Certainly their best work together coming off of the mess that was V8 which I thought was their worst work.
As to where V9 stands for me compared to previous seasons---while V9 will never top V2 (that still remains to be my personal favourite season of RWBY), I do think it deserves a spot in my top 3 picks for the best season of RWBY.
As it stands, I’m willing to put V9 as my second favourite season of RWBY. While I still love V3, I’d say V9 did well enough on the writing to be in second place for now. While this could change for me later after I’ve had more time to think about the season as a whole, for now, V9 is second. Like I said, definitely in the top 3 picks for RWBY’s best on this squiggle meister’s list.
Congratulations, CRWBY Writer Quartet, after several years, you have finally produced a post Monty era season with writing good enough to trump two of my favs from the Beacon Trilogy.
I hope moving forward, the showrunners maintain this level of quality in the writing in the event that V10 is greenlit.
For what it’s worth, I’d like for RWBY to at least get one more season to tie everything together. While I don’t need another trilogy of seasons (I feel like that will be asking for too much now), it’d be great if the show gets at least ONE MORE VOLUME to go out with a bang, y’know what I mean.
But only time will tell. As for now, I enjoyed the episode. I enjoyed the season and I honestly would like for there to be a V10. That’s all I’ll say for now.

Introducing my super cool RWBY rewrite that is definitely better than literally anything
Hey guys, this is my RWBY fanfiction universe. All ideas are mine, I just think... I dunno, RWBY kinda sucks so I'm making my own, better version. I'll call it... RWBY: Rescued or some other vaguely pretentious title, idk. Hey, John and Jane RWBYson! Thanks for subscribing to my project! Or anonymously stalking it? It's hard to tell sometimes.
Now I know I already introduced Team RWBY, and everyone loves them, I'm happy! I'm just gonna add a little dude here, no it's fine! He's like a side character, nothing more. Like an ally, Ruby's first friend, he leads the other team, it'll be really cool I promise. His name is Jaune btw, no, NO big deal. Just trust me on this. I'm the superior writer, remember?
...
Um... sorry guys. Over the weekend I just got a really big spark of inspiration, like... the Muses struck me from the heavens above. So I'm sorry, but... I'm going to make a quarter of the first Volume entirely focused on Jaune, the Volume that is crucially formative to the cast and entire series, which will cause a ripple effect so bad that a consistently large number of fans dislike him in my series 10 years later, but also find it hard to imagine the story without him at this point, like a lukewarm relationship you don't know how to feel about.
But it's fine! The show is still called RWBY and I plan to deliver on that, not like those hacks at Rooster Teeth stepping on Monty's vision. That's the rhetoric I'm supposed to use, right? To make you hate me? To make me into an easy strawman to hate and dismiss? GOT IT, just making sure, lol
I'm going to voice act as him too, btw. No big deal, I'm sure this won't affect my treatment of him whatsoever. Oh, but here's Neptune. He's voiced by the other dude writing this, and we're gonna write a love triangle between the characters we voice and Weiss, one of the main leads. That counts as a character arc for her, right? Right, glad you understand. Oh, Neptune? You actually liked him and wanted him around? What are you, fucking sexist? God. Make sure to tell your friends how cool my story is
Next, I'm going to have Pyrrha's entire screentime devoted around Jaune, and even after she dies, only Jaune is allowed to process his emotions regarding her death while Ren, an Asian dude, and Nora, another girl, prop him up. I'm also going to bring her death up every two years like 2-3 times to really milk that man pain. What does Ruby the main character feel about this? Oh don't worry, she'll talk about it with another character I'll add in. I'll even have her say Keep Moving Forward™ to really sell the audience's Ruby's pain and really stoke and stir your anguish. Her anguish. Moving on.
Eh, something feels off, there's not enough conflict... Let's have Cinder run Weiss through with a spear, for funsies ig, because I have this post-it note on my monitor saying Jaune's Semblance and this is the perfect moment. I'm also gonna give Jaune this whole ass emotional outburst, 1-on-1 fight and confrontation with Cinder since she killed Pyrrha and awakened all his angst.
Ruby? Uh... yeah, she can stand there I guess. I need to remind the goddamn audience that YES, I still remember silver eyes exist, gawd. I have to do it every few Volumes or I can sometimes forget the protagonist in my female-led story exists - man what a pain, I bet I'm gonna be pressured into creating an old lady to teach her or some shit in the Volume right after this one. Whatever, I'll have her disappear in 2 years, they'll never know she left. Anyway OOPS Emerald knocked Ruby out, thank god she's out of the way so I can squeeze in a shot of Cinder stepping on Jaune and really rub that pain in. God, Jaune really needed this, so glad I did that
Fuck it, Jaune kills Penny too. I dunno, it just feels right, y'know? Nah... I don't think Ruby or anyone is the right person for this, and I don't think we've really, one hundred percent explored just how deeply Jaune can angst over dead women; women who could have grown into full, complex people with rich arcs and relationships using all the screentime I parasitically extracted from them via sudden, unwarranted death. Penny, like, she really needs to fuckin' die for this. Her death is worth having to retread this same tired fucking emotional arc if it's for my boy, know what I'm sayin'? Good, glad you understand
Alright, it's the Volume finale. Team RWBY and Neo are falling into the next story arc. Great, people really wanted this - an entire Volume just focused on the title characters together. The fans have been on my ass asking for this since Volume fucking Four. It's alright, I GOT THIS. I FUCKING GOT THIS! It's simple! This is perfect. But... I mean, I shouldn't... but I really... SDGDSGDED FUCK IT, fuck you, Jaune falls in with them too
John and Jane RWBYson: "God, this is why I hate rewriters who think they can write a good story with RWBY. They love making white men the focus of their self insert fantasies while shoving female characters into the fridge and off to the side, all while using Monty's name to rile people into brainlessly supporting it. I hope they fucking disappear"
Wait. John. Jane. Did I say my RWBY fanfiction universe?
Oh. Oh god.

You know, for as much as I hoped we didn't have to wait ANOTHER volume and god knows how many more years to see rest of the cast and as much as the "team rwby are the only characters who should have any development or focus at any given point" takes annoy me, I am really glad they're taking every single moment of this volume to focus on the girls. Actually seeing the volume as is makes me realize that continuously cutting away would've weakened it significantly. So sorry for coming into your inbox and going "But the others!" a few months back.
That being said, I do think that not following up on them before the big reunion would be a bad move, especially since they set up the "half my friends and family are dead" angst for many different characters, and I think the big reunion would be cheapened if we didn't follow up on that at least a little. How do you think they should handle that?
Another thing I wanted to ask is what you think Weiss' arc is gonna be based on what we've been getting so far? I'm really intreged on what we might get based on the tiny scraps we got today.
(Also the Penny doll in the jar representing Ruby's hope and Ruby's big speech destroyed me emotionally)
I'm asking a lot of different people these questions cause I'm curious. (Sorry if I accidently asked you twice)
Tbh with the way that the volume has been progressing, cutting away at all to the others would feel like too much time wasted on things that aren't developing the main focus of the volume. Like, as much as I'd like to see ONR, Emerald, and Winter in Vacuo, spending time on them would waste the limited time we have to really explore what the fuck is going on with Ruby lol. What we've gotten so far has been great and I can't imagine it's be even half as a effective if, in maybe the first 5 minutes or so, our attention had been taken up by a completely separate conflict happening a literal world away.
And we don't really need to cut to them imo. The journey that RWBY is going through in the Ever After is fairly self-contained from we can see. There's nothing going on in Vacuo that would give us better context for ever After or vice versa, and it's not like we can't fill in the gaps or just. wait.
As for a reunion, given my experience with CRWBY's writing style, I wouldn't put it past them to have team RWBY drop into Vacuo somehow in the middle of whatever ONR+WE are dealing with. And I'd be fine with that. Maybe volume 10 could spend a little time on ONR+'s feelings, but again I just don't think volume 9 has the time.
As for Weiss, it seems like her arc is going to focus on her feelings of failure toward Atlas. We only have a sliver of it right now, but I could see it developing along her path to rebuilding the SDC (if that's what she wants to do) and trying to create a new legacy on the ashes of her father's and her society's. Just like Ruby is feeling like a failure of a hero, Weiss might feel inadequate as a partner and as someone who can be trusted to lead others into an uncertain future. Everything they've done feels like a loss, and the loss of her entire home came from it. I can't really give many specifics because I'm terrible at predicting what CRWBY will do in the future, but that's what I've been guessing at.

RWBY Volume 9 Ep 2 - Altercation at the Auspicious Auction
Okay, yeah, I will do this for this episode, too. But this time I’ll actually try to keep it short and only say the stuff I really want to say.
- I’ll start with the biggest thing for me: Nuts and Dolts, Ruby’s depression caused by her grief over Penny, oh gosh my feels. Okay, so the common response from other NND shippers I’ve seen to this episode basically boils down to “Oh wow, this hurts” and while I get that sentiment (I’ve watched the episode several times now and I cry over Ruby’s speech every time), I still prefer it this way. I mean, think of the alternative: I’d be much more upset if the show just brushed Penny’s death aside and had Ruby have a “meh, whatever” reaction to it. How did I put it in my post about V9E1? Oh yeah:
[...] but if I have to deal with half of my ship being dead, then I at least want to see the other half have the most intense reaction possible to it. I want Ruby to grieve, I want Ruby to go through hell, I want her to just not be normal about this on any level. The intro already tells us that this is the “Ruby is depressed” volume, but I want that to be at least in large parts because of her grief for Penny. Ruby thought she’d lost Penny once, then she got her back, got even closer with her, fell in love with her, went through all of that trouble in Volume 8 to save her from the virus, only to find out she died anyways… yeah, I want Ruby to suffer about it [...]
So basically, I’m getting exactly what I asked for and I’m loving it. Of course I’m still heartbroken that they killed Penny in the first place, but if that’s how it is, then I want Ruby to have exactly this reaction we’re getting. Maybe I just like angst, maybe it’s that I want Penny to continue to be important to the plot even after her death, maybe I feel more and more validated in my NND-shipping ways the more Ruby grieves, or maybe it’s that my hopes of Penny coming back grow the more emphasis is put on how much her death messes Ruby up - but yeah, either way: more suffering please, I’m here for it. *evil laugh*
- I’m just going to say it: The way Ruby is grieving for Penny definitely makes it look like Penny was more than just a friend to her. In the first episode, Ruby was already sad in the beginning, but still had at least a bit of that spark left. But from the moment she found out Penny died (and fainted about it), she just completely shut down. This entire episode, she’s just completely in her own head the entire time. She doesn’t smile, doesn’t laugh, just keeps looking down sadly, her voice sounds so broken the entire time - seriously, props to the animators and Lindsay for bringing that depression accross so well. And Ruby is also solely focused on her grief for Penny the entire time. I don’t think she’s actually oblivious to Bumbleby being a thing, she was just in her own head with her own thoughts and not paying attention to what was going on around her. And just look at Ruby’s voice and posture and everything when she’s comforting Weiss about Atlas - she’s barely holding it together. And when they’re at the auction, she barely pays attention to Yang’s fight for her arm or anything else around her, she’s solely focused on that figurine - Penny’s sword. Then while everyone else is arguing how to proceed, she again only talks about the sword and feeling drawn to it and then she just sits there and looks down at it while it rains.
And to be clear - I’m not saying that romantic relationships are inherently more important than platonic ones or that you can’t grieve for a friend in a very intense way, but what I’m definitely getting here is that Penny was more (in whatever way that may be) than a “regular” friend to Ruby.
- Also, it really upsets me that Ruby doesn’t get to keep Penny’s sword at the end of the episode! I saw the spoiler that she’d get the sword in advance and I was hoping she’d fight with the sword until she gets Crescent Rose back. It’s kinda sad that Ruby’s again being selfless and giving up the only thing she has left of Penny just so they can keep going in the story. But I’m hoping she’ll get the sword back at least. (And that she’ll get Penny back; I’ve been reading theories and I’m not giving up on this one. Also, come on, fairytales have a rule of 3 - and Penny’s only been alive twice so far.)
- On a happier note: Bumbleby are adorable and they’ve very obviously heading towards being canon this season. It’s happening, be ready. And it’s lovely to see Blake being so comfortable with the idea of romance now that she’s just straight-up going for it and flirting in the silliest cutest way possible. (Blake honey... what Yang said wasn’t even funny and you’re here giggling like a lovesick schoolgirl, making puns and touchting her hand... good for you. Good for you, go get her.) No seriously, the bees warm my heart and like Weiss said: It’s about time.
- And again, I don’t actually think Ruby is oblivious to it. I kind of assumed she knew ever since she and Yang had this exchange of looks in V6:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(That silent “So you and Blake, huh?” “Yeah...” exchange was when I realized that Bumbleby was going to be canon for real.)
- But also, something I noticed on my rewatch: We see that Weiss is very aware of Bumbleby (and of romance around her in general?), so my shipper heart can’t help but wonder what she was going to say when she started with “I know that Penny... I know that was a lot to hear.” (“I know that Penny meant a lot to you?”)
- Little is still adorable and I love them so much. Team RWBY’s reactions to them saying they’ll live by the bridge need to become a “draw the squad” meme.
- Weiss becoming the slapstick comic-relief character is amazing, I love that for her.
- Also, I didn’t quite realize until she said it that Weiss just lost her her home. Gosh, they’re just all going through it, huh?
- Yang saying she’d rather fight the racoon made me think of RWBY Chibi. (“I’m Yang, lets fight.”)
- Okay, so the “knowing what it is to feel loved” thing... Is that meant to be what the person is supposed to have or what they’re supposed to give up? So, did Yang hesitate because she doesn’t know what it’s like to feel loved (abandonment issues and all that) or because she does (Blake, Ruby) and she doesn’t want to give that feeling up?
- Also “enough hope to fill this jar”... yeah, so just in case you somehow didn’t yet understand that Ruby has depression, here’s it spelled out one more time.
- I also wonder to what extent the others realize that it’s Ruby’s emotions causing the rain? Because when Weiss complains that “Now it’s raining on just us!” that didn’t seem like she realizes.
That’s a shorter post than last time, I’m improving.

What Your Favorite Genshin Impact Ship Says About You: The Narcotic Edition
Also known as: Speed-running my cancelation in 4K and High Definition with the tea, receipts, and screenshots in real-time.
If I missed any of them or you want me to do an extension of this list with your own ideas of ships and pairings, feel free to comment any of them (except the ones with children and siblings, you know the ones).
If you don't know the drill already: For legal reasons, this is a joke.
Note: If you happen to see any ships you don't like in this list for whatever reason, then that's not my problem because I don't really care.
Zhongli x Childe: You have either been around since the heyday of launch for the game or you got into it because you saw them literally everywhere you went. You also love chopsticks and may or may not ship Soukoku.
Xiao x Venti: Your copium of 'Venti saved Xiao' is running dangerously low and as such, you desperately consume the respective character's canon media and make it intertwine with the others as much as possible despite them having no correlation whatsoever.
Kaeya x Albedo: You either looked at their implied lore and said 'yup I ship it' or you took Kaeya's voice line about Albedo to the next level. You can also draw Kaeya with three strokes of a writing instrument.
Yanfei x Yelan: You believe that Yelan definitely has an 'agreement' with Yanfei to keep her off the books. You also think it's dubious for an advocate of the law to know someone who overtly skirts around it for a living.
Lisa x Jean: You think there's nothing better in this world than two hot, smart, and independent women who love each other unconditionally. You are also either a fluff fan or an angst enjoyer.
Xiao x Aether/Lumine: You believe that Xiao's canonical character development of seeing himself as a person as opposed to a weapon of war is 75% attributed to the traveler's direct involvement. You also love the hurt/comfort tag in the sum of its parts, unsavory and all.
Keqing x Ganyu: You love the 'burnt-out workaholic' and the 'live to work workaholic' dynamic more than any sane person would. You also love the idea of taking naps with your significant other after a long day.
Xingqiu x Chongyun: You love the childhood friends to lovers dynamic. You also love the trope of the trickster and their consistent victim that also happens to be their beloved and you never got over the KhunBaam dynamic.
Zhongli x Venti: You have come to the belief that Venti is the only one who can share the memory and as such, you naturally know in your heart of hearts that they are closer to each other than people think.
Kaeya x Diluc: "Alexa, play 'Daddy Issues' by Demi Lovato". You also either enjoy second chances along with a dramatic change in dynamics or you have a step-sibling kink.
Gorou x Sangonomiya Kokomi: You think Gorou is the goodest boi and you think that Kokomi thinks so too. You also get instant serotonin thinking about how cute the both of them are as individuals and then go catatonic upon thinking about them together.
Raiden Ei x Yae Miko: You were neutral on the deity and their devout worshipper dynamic, but the added flavor of being ghosted for a long time combined with shared trauma and an unholy amount of sass made you a staunch believer.
Diluc x Venti: You believe that the bard god has an attachment to his emotional support bloodlines, but that on occasion, that attachment becomes a lot more. You also believe that Venti needed another way to pay for his wine.
Arataki Itto x Gorou: Itto's voice line about Ms. Hina combined with your undying hope of a potential Ms. Hina hangout are the main reasons you dove headfirst with no questions asked. You may also be a monsterfucker, a furry, or incredibly horny.
Eula x Amber: You believe in the sunshine and the protector of sunshine dynamic and have also been on the receiving end of slander by either association or having an unpopular opinion. You are also a RWBY and/or Voltron refugee.
Yanfei x Kuki Shinobu: Not only do you have two sharp and intelligent characters, but they were also in college together in canon? You're genuinely surprised more people haven't jumped on this.
Kaedahara Kazuha x Tomo: You either love angst or you hate it with a blinding passion. You also like the idea of a couple of dudes traveling together, sharing experiences, and just vibing.
Kaeya x Rosaria: Two individuals with questionable backgrounds that just happen to be drinking buddies? You signed the fuck up as soon as it was hinted at in the game. You also think that they can ruin each other.
Albedo x Aether: You are either unbearably soft or such an angst enjoyer that the better fics don't have the hits they deserve because all of the weaker-of-willed readers were chased away by the soul-crushing angst. You may also want Albedo to 'experiment' on you as a self-insert.
Kujou Sara x Kuki Shinobu: You believe that Arataki Itto is an idiot, but you also want him to be used as a plot device to get them together. You also believe that Shinobu and Sara are actual friends and would like a friends-to-lovers scenario for them as well.
Diluc x Jean: You believe that Diluc deserves nothing but happiness and understanding and that Jean can give him both, though you bemoan the lack of genuine Jean-centric introspection in the fanbase as a whole. You are also a sucker for domesticity and the idea of having a large, happy family.
Childe x Lumine: The use of the term 'girlie' still has you by the throat to this day. You may also relish the idea of you beating the shit out of a pronounced battlesexual and renowned warrior with relative ease as a self-insert.
Sangonomiya Kokomi x Kujou Sara: The trope of the sharp and skilled strategist who really just wants to sleep and the tsundere second-in-command who doesn't know how to live on opposite sides of a conflict grabbed you by the throat and hasn't let go since.
Eula x Yanfei: You think that if one character saves another character's life that it's completely acceptable grounds to start shipping them together. You are also a believer in shared trauma.
Kamisato Ayato x Thoma: You took Ayato's line about loyalty and dogs to the next level. You also love yourself a malewife and master of the house dynamic.
Scaramouche x Mona: The one line of 'the stars are a lie' and the true realization of Mona's profession has never left you and will continue to haunt you for as long as you stick around in the fanbase.
Bennett x Razor: You are one of the most wholesome people in this fanbase. You also played that one quest with a religious fervor that concerned your loved ones exponentially with time.
Kamisato Ayaka x Yoimiya: The timeless trope of a sheltered and socially awkward person meeting a firecracker of passion with a zest for life and a lasered focus on the things they love kills you every damn time.
Arataki Itto x Kujou Sara: The dumbass rivals-to-friends-to-lovers trope has you in a tizzy. You have also gone to insane lengths to clear your name through the use of artifacts, weapons, and worldbuilding lore.
Yanfei x Hu Tao: The thought of Hu Tao getting sued by Yanfei's clients and all of the hijinks they would get into are absolutely hilarious to you. You are also a Phoenix Wright enjoyer.
Kamisato Ayaka x Thoma: You want someone to take care of Ayaka and you think that Thoma's the right one for that job. You also want Ayaka to have a suitable husband to continue the Kamisato bloodline.
Kaeya x Childe: You are into the characterization of the both of them being suave foxy individuals that flirt with each in hopes of respective infiltration, only to find that they themselves have been emotionally compromised. You also want Diluc to suffer.
Yun Jin x Xinyan: The thought of two creatives in their own specializations loving each other and cheering each other on despite opposition from either part of their lives is beautiful to you. You may also want the same for yourself.
Shikanoin Heizou x Kaedahara Kazuha: They share national origin and visions, so you put two and two together and shipped them. You also think that their discordant designs per according to other longer-standing vision users of the same element is reason enough.
Shenhe x Yelan: What's better than having a secluded hermit that eats herbs and has a natural inclination for murder and violence? The living personification of movies in 80's Hong Kong and the Persona 5 soundtrack. You also love the trope of a well-known flirt fumbling around a socially stunted person because none of their tactics work.
Albedo x Sucrose: Two nerds in respective fields loving each other in their own special way that may not make sense to outsiders has you by the heartstrings. You have also read 'Unfocused'.
Childe x Diluc: The enemies-to-lovers trope has stayed with you consistently throughout your experiences in media. You may also like hatefucking as a concept.
Eula x Rosaria: You want Eula to commit familicide and you want Rosaria to give her some pointers on how to do it. You also like hot, sexy women.
Shikanoin Heizou x Kuki Shinobu: You relish in the fact that the only positive voice line about Heizou is from Shinobu and is purely transactional in nature. You are also optimistic as to the potential that has to develop in the future.
Diluc x Thoma: Two Mondstadters who don't like alcohol are the only two reasons you need to ship them. You also like the idea of them being childhood best friends and how they traverse their relationship after more than a decade of being apart.
Beidou x Ningguang: You are Hoyoverse.

Bumbleby Week DAY 2 - Meet the Parents
Day 2 of @bumblebyweek-blog set of prompts and its meeting the parents, always a fun one, though I think mine turned a bit serious/angsty but hey its Bumbleby after V3 they’ve always had a bit of angst over them (at least to me, they really do need this island vacation). Still liked where this went and hope you’ll enjoy it too.
To say that Yang was nervous was an understatement. Which of course was crazy for anyone else to imagine. She was the blinding star of Team RWBY, the heavyweight brawler that personally threw hands at Salem herself. Yet here she was frozen in the team’s tent trying not to overthink what was about to happen.
After coming back from Ever After, where she finally grasped her heart and asked Blake to be with her together. Granted it had come after Blake tearfully tore into her for her sacrificial nature for them all. That had been an ugly conversation, especially when Yang had snapped back asking what was she supposed to do. Neither was able to answer the other and they had stormed off to cool their minds. Of course, neither was ready for the island to react to their emotions and the two soon found themselves slammed back together. It had been painful, emotional, and ultimately needed time that helped them clear whatever was between them. In the end, they both just wanted to be with other during and after the war.
It was a bond that had helped them escape Ever After, and even helped beat back Salem’s agents' attempts to infiltrate Shade. Their nights were easier together and both were finding out more about each other. At this point, Yang knew she could keep going as long as Blake was with her, heck she even managed to get Blake and her dad to enjoy a brunch together, despite both being terrible morning people, a fact the two bonded wonderfully over.
Now though she was on the receiving end of meeting the parents and truth be told her nervousness was quickly turning into genuine fear. Oh sure Blake had done everything to assuage her fears, but deep down Yang knew that maybe just maybe she might drop the ball. She did not want to mess this up, this was Blake’s parents. Parents who she had only recently reconnected with, parents who had willingly let their baby go into fight a war that could end the world. Parents that had almost lost her to one person Blake had given her heart to.
Yang suppressed that thought, it would only make her angry, and that was the last thing she needed to be. This was to be a joyous occasion, if somewhat muted. Salem was slowly gearing up for a full war, and the people of Remnant would need more than a smattering of Hunters to protect them. They needed an army, and only the Kingdom of Menagerie Guards, along with the reborn White Fang, had the numbers to provide a solid foundation for the rest of the world’s buildup for the final fight. So not only was Yang going to meet her girlfriend's parents but also two of the most influential individuals alive in the world.
“Yeah, I’m the one who's supposed to overthink things,” Blake’s voice whispered into Yang’s ear which caused her to jump with a shriek.
“Blake!!” she cried out as Blake chuckled, and Yang felt her indignation disappear. Blake’s laughter was precious and absolutely a delight to hear.
“Sorry Sunshine,” Blake said and grinning as Yang flushed at the nickname before she enveloped Yang in a hug. Yang melted back into Blake with her own hug as her heart enjoyed the calming moment. “You know it will be okay,” Blake continued on, “I wouldn’t have you doing this if I thought it would end badly,”
“I know, I just…want to give them my best,” Yang stated, somewhat embarrassed that she was this obvious.
“And you will, now come, dad managed to figure out how to make a sandfish taste like it's a tuna,” Blake said planting a quick kiss on Yang’s lip, as she dragged Yang out of their tent toward her parents’ temporary shelter. The walk was far shorter than Yang could ever imagine, and though she tried to focus on her hand holding Blake’s, her early worries started to creep back. So much could go wrong and--
“Yang,” suddenly she found herself staring deep into Blake’samber eyes, oh she could look into those gems all day. “If you’re not ready we don’t--”
“No, if I don’t do it now it's gonna just make it worse,” Yang quickly interrupted her girlfriend’s sentence, already steeling herself for the worst. “Besides I do need to see just how well your dad managed with the sandfish, that stuff has been nothing but leather.”
“Alright, Mom! Dad! We’re here!” Blake announced through the tent’s entrance and was quickly answered by a soft come-in, as well as shuffling sounds of people moving. Blake threw Yang a quick smile before dashing in, and Yang followed in. Now Blake had shown pictures and talked about her parents to Yang, so she easily knew just what Kali Belladonna was. The older woman seemed to glide toward her daughter, sweeping Blake up in a hug.
“It’s so good to see you,” Kali crooned as she peppered her daughter’s face with kisses.
“Mom, we saw each this morning,” Blake playfully complained before touching her forehead to her mother’s, before turning her head back toward Yang. “Anyway, Mom here’s Yang, my girlfriend,”
“Hello, Mrs. Belladona, a pleasure to meet you” Yang instantly straightened herself and stiffly extended a hand toward Blake’s mom. The two Belladonnas looked at her for a brief second before Blake had to turn away to stifle a giggle, while Kali gave Yang a wide smile.
“Oh you are just as sweet as Blake mentioned dear,” she started before opening her arms out for a hug. “Please no need for formalities,” she continued, while Yang shot Blake a look, who nodded and then hugged Kali. “Ah it is nice to meet you too, Blake has been giving tidbits of your adventures.
“All yangtastic ones right?... Oh shades,” Yang’s face bloomed red in embarrassment at what she said. The feeling was not helped as Blake’s giggles turned into chuckles and Kali herself let out a laugh as she stepped back.
“And she was right about your humor,” Kali started grin still on her face as Yang tried to hide her face with her hands, “but now let us get seated, I can smell my husband finishing tonight’s dinner,” Kali finished and Yang soon also smelled the wonderful aromas that were wafting from the tent’s rear. No sooner than the three had taken their seats, Blake’s father Ghira Belladonna arrived carrying a massive skillet, still steaming with four sandfish and a bevy of herbs and spices that enthralled Yang’s nose. In a flash after Ghira had set down the skillet then two of the fish had moved from the skillet to the plates of Kali and Blake. The atmosphere soon became a homely one as the Belladonnas plied the two girls about their adventures, with the two partners easily focusing on the better parts of their time together. Yang had no idea how much time had passed and honestly was ready to keep talking till they all dropped asleep when a sudden cough cut through their discussions.
“Make it quick,” Ghira announced sitting straighter as one of the Menagerie Guards swiftly made their way over and whispered something in Ghira’s ear. It obviously wasn't the best of news as his lips went straight before he turned to Blake. “Dear can you go with him and help Ilia, there’s a slight scuffle between some of the recruits and our allies?” he asked and Yang instantly knew just what was about to happen. To be fair she too had left Blake with her dad, via a long bathroom break, but this seemed a bit much to her. A thought Blake seemed to agree with by how her eyes narrowed, but before she could Yang placed her hand over Blake’s.
“It will be fine, besides you know I’m best for ending fights not preventing them,” she quipped flashing her signature smile at her girlfriend. The tension in Blake eased away before she leaned in for another quick kiss and turned to face her parents and the guard.
“Lead the way please,” and with that, the two disappeared out of the tent and into the night.
“Hm perceptive she is,” Kali quipped as she leaned against her husband, who maintained his stoic expression. Yang knew that she needed to say something, proclaim her love and devotion to Blake, promise that she won’t hurt Blake ever. Yet just as she opened her mouth Ghira held up a hand.
“Please Ms. Xiao Long, before you pour out your heart for Blake please allow me to start,” he said as Yang could only nod, “Firstly thank you for defending her against…Adam.” Yang couldn’t blame the man for the hesitancy, even she and Blake were rarely able to say anything when those nightmares struck one of them.
“Sir that was something anyone of us would have done--”
“And yet I missed it,” Ghira interrupted her, “I let myself out of her life, which is why I must thank you again for letting Blake be herself again,”
“Uh wait what do you mean?” Yang asked not exactly sure what he meant by that, sure Blake had the issue she tended to close herself off, but it was still her…right?
“What my husband means is that around our daughter chooses that the person to be is herself,” Kali stated, “not a lieutenant, not a criminal, but her honest self, and it is so good to see her make that choice,”
“My wife is correct,” Ghira pushed “Blake with you has been the most we’ve seen her be true to herself, and we can not thank you enough,” Yang herself was shocked at the news, she honestly assume that Blake mostly just kept to herself before opening up to others. Hearing that Blake had apparently always had her barriers up and that she had helped let her be herself again was definitely a bit much.
“I…I don’t really have words for that,” She started as the two Belladonnas let loose a chuckle, “but other than your daughter has helped me to, given me the strength to live for her and others that are in my life,”
“Well then, let's get going before my daughter again decides the best response is to burn a house down,” Ghira stated as he stood up.
“And that is the best way to live,” Ghira stated his voice a bit melancholic, “too many have died for their loves these days,”
“Agreed,” Yang stated, and for a moment the three let the silence honor those they lost.
“Wait what did she do?” Yang asked now thoroughly confused.

RWBY dynamic placements
(but I haven't seen RWBY in literal years and I REFUSE to Google anything bc it's funnier this way)
RWBY
Ruby-- listen. I'm gonna argue she has no dynamic at the start of the show because that sounds fun to me; she's 14 or something so it checks out. I think presenting as an alpha would be too easy but it makes it great for later on when the weight of being leader starts building on her shoulders. So since that seems like a Rooster Teeth move, Ruby as alpha 2023
Weiss-- she has the Rarity Effect AKA she's very feminine but confident and that makes it an intially omega hc turn quickly to an alpha one. But she has problems with being younger and not good enough I think sooo..... beta? Would that be enough to cause angst for her? Beta or omega.
Blake-- Omega. She has two exes and her entire arc with them is that she's basically their codependent lackey. I'm sorry, it's true, it's omega energy! She gains better leadership skills by vol 9; I'm allowed to roast her like this because she grows ok
Yang-- Big sister energy really makes me want to say alpha but never underestimate the flexibility of a beta here. Also something about BY being one of the most popular ships and also be omega/alpha is boring. But ughhhhhhh Ruby was raised by Yang.... fuck it, alpha for now
JNPR
Jean-- Weiss Effect, whatever brings more angst is good. I'm personally going for omega because he was a Pyrrah simp hardcore but beta because I could see that too
The Asian dude (I'm SO SORRY 😭 REN! is it REn?!??!)-- any interpretation is great from what I remember, I'm personally arguing alpha because he deserves it. I'll say... dynmafluid?
Penny(?? Is that the robot or the one like Amy from Sonic)-- she's heavily destructive and her positive attitude holds the group together. Any interpretation is banger. Pandynamic for sure
Pyrrah (in case Penny wasn't what the P stood for)-- ok we're either going for alpha for the perfect leader stereotype or omega for the perfect leader stereotype. I could see beta but only if Rooster Teeth made it like.... :O *gasp* a secret Jean gets to learn before she dies!
Everyone Else I Remember
Penny (in case that is the robot)-- she's a robot but uhhh... shit, what was her purpose again? Was she a killing machine? Alpha for intimidation.
The monkey dude (sorryyyyy)-- beta, just vibes
Blue hair and pronouns guy-- omega or beta, again it's just vibes
Neo-- omega but she learned a lot from all the other villains so her body language could mimic any dynamic
Bowler Hat guy-- beta probably let's be real
Adam?? Blake's ex??-- he's an alpha but he's AGGRESSIVE about it. He actually thinks he's an alpha like the sexist men ones. Like, "being an alpha was a Right given to me by God so I could Grindset my Mindset" and everyone is like bro chill.
CINDERBLOCK -- LISTEN she's hot shutupshutupshutup giving major alpha energy but you start quetsioning that when you meet whoever that blonde bitch is from I think season 6 or 7 who's controlling the dark underworld. Oh hey speaking of....
Whoever that blonde bitch is from I think season 6 or 7 who's controlling the dark underworld -- beyond a need for dynamics
Ozpin -- uhhhhhh listen he's the king of the school or whatever but he's an omega. SHUT UP JUST TRUST ME HE'S THE MANLIEST MOM EVER
Oscar AKA Ozpin 2.0 -- unpresented, he's like 12
Isla AKA also Blake's ex???-- uhhhhhhh omega ig???

“Summer?”
She startled, head turning from the silent below to the balcony door. Tai was peering at her through the glass, looking as astonished to see her. “Tai?”
“What…what are you doing awake right now?”
She considered lying. “I suppose I am city gazing,” she said instead.
Why? It would accomplish nothing. She could more than tolerate Tai’s curiosity, even as it related to her. He was, it might be said, her first friend since the rubble and gore.
Tai huffed as he pulled the sliding door open. “It’s f-fucking freezing,” he said through chattering teeth.
She hummed, tugging on her hood. “I doubt anyone could be so disposed.”
“…What? -Oh, hah hah.” Tai’s flat look kept as he closed the door behind him. “At least the Branwens don’t know any better. You’re half-and-half and I can never tell which one.”
“Perhaps I like to keep you guessing,” she said.
“Perhaps.” He hit the patio chair beside her with a sigh. “Seriously, what are you doing out here?”
Her mind hedged on the question again. But why lie to Tai? “I couldn’t sleep.”

My first proper oneshot from Summer’s perspective (because Ten Seconds of Summer was, as per the name, cheating). I held off on writing her for so long before it occurred to me that I am the writer and I can do whatever the fuck I want, which is precisely what I did. A personal interpretation of Summer Rose that’s a little less ‘hey-ho’ and a little more ‘help me’. Headcanon: nobody in Beacon liked Team STRQ in their prime; Qrow was kidding himself when he said they were “the coolest team to ever graduate Beacon”. These goobers were intolerable to anyone outside of their own team.

So, episode 5... oof. Gotta a lot of thoughts, and couldn’t keep ‘em to myself.
So, in the blacksmith’s shop, Ruby sees presumably Summer’s reflection in the axe/rifle and might also be a scythe, right? But the reflection is a new outfit for Summer, so might be foreshadowing Summer having changed if/when she shows up in the show proper.
Alternatively, consider a theory that says that team RWBY has aged up already and just don’t see it yet themselves but Jaune can. Borrowing aspects of that, what if the reflection in the axe blade was an older Ruby, either as a version of herself she can ‘ascend’ into, either forgetting Summer or as Sumer ver2, or a version of Ruby that when she finally has her breakthrough into being her own person, like, partially ‘ascends’ aka reforges herself with her own power. Like, why not? The Cat seems to allude to Ruby with a particle power, giving a part of it’s heart aka compassion, and having Silver eyes (albeit pupils), show potential that Ruby could become just as able to mold this world as the Cat, and what better way than molding her own form in that world to reflect that?
Maybe WBY will get a similar upgrade if it goes in that direction, or not. After all, this entire series, Ruby is two years younger than her team and other first year Beacon students. What if something, a self-done ascension or whatever, causes her to be separated from her team for two years, like a microcosm of what happened to Jaune? Fuck, what if Neo did snatch and replace Ruby in the Jabberwalker fight, and, even if the age doesn’t show right away, Ruby still experiences two years to WBY’s, like, 5 minutes? Granted, it’s not necessary as is, but it is a detail that could be made relevant.
Bear in mind, I’ve assumed time is very, very malleable in the Ever After. Time and Space are linked, right? But right away, we see Ruby (and later Weiss) looping a single clearing. If one’s screwy, both should be, and everyone’s times falling into the Ever After confirms it. More than anything, the Ever After is a metaphorical as well as literal space. They gotta make the emotional journey to the tree, not just physical, after all.
Shit, just thought of something. What if Ruby discovers her ability to mold the Ever After (and herself) before making a positive breakthrough? Like, Anyone know the Steven Universe Future finale when Steven basically corrupts himself into a kaiju due to his mental health being down the shitter? What if Ruby does something similar to herself, either accidently or on purpose? Might not be enough time in the volume to explore that, so I kinda doubt the show’s going that route, but hey, fuel for any angst fanart and fics.
TL;DR: Shit’s fucked, especially Ruby’s mental health, and space and time.

Since Pyrrha is based off of Achilles, who is the son of the sea nymph Thetis, I suggest to you…
Half Aquatic Faunus Pyrrha Nikos!
Think about it. You can either have her
1. have prominent Faunus features, or have the majority of people know she is half-Faunus. You can explore how people from Mistral (a racist kingdom) might treat a famous athlete with Faunus features, have that be an added source of conflict. Would there be a stronger need to “prove herself as a heroine” because she’s now a prominent person of Faunus heritage that people look up to/scrutinize?
2 not have prominent features, or present as Human-passing like Blake for whatever reason. Have her angst about whether people idolize her partially because of her presumed Human status, and fear how she’d be treated should her Faunus status come to light.
Either way, it adds to the 1:3 Faunus to Human ratio with Teams RWBY and SSSN, and it leads to other questions like, would her Thetis parent be the one to train her to be a Huntress? Would they be a Hunter themself? What is their relationship like?
And it gives even more reason for a Pyrrha and Neptune Childhood Best Friends AU. Maybe we can see how Pyrrha, Blake, Velvet and Sun present themselves as Faunus. Maybe we can have Blake and Pyrrha actually interacting with each other for once idk. The possibilities are endless.
no wait i love this
squirrels it away to draw it at a later date

Hi I have Thoughts that I need to get out before I go to bed or I will probably stay awake all night thinking about it
So I was thinking about a RWBY/Pokémon AU crossover (aka just assigning Pokémon teams to all the RWBY characters), right?
And yeah Qrow having an Absol is probably a no-brainer but like! Man the story of Qrow and his Absol that ended up spawning in my head while thinking about this!
Putting my hc rambles under the cut. Warning for a bit of angst btw
Qrow meets Absol on a scouting mission for the Branwen tribe, in a time long before he even went to Beacon.
It's caught in a trap, and he figures he should help it. He can already hear the scornful voices of the other members of the tribe in his head as he does so: "Too soft," "Too weak," "Too spineless." But, walking bad luck charm as he was, he figures that nothing he does could possibly garner that much approval, so whatever, what does it matter? Besides, nobody had to know he took such a short stop.
At least, that's what Qrow thinks, until the Absol starts following him.
He knows the superstitions, that Absol brought disaster, that it was a bad omen, a harbinger of chaos. And yet, the way the Absol stared at him, it's as if it's peering into his soul and reflecting a piece of him back.
Cus Qrow knows that look. It's the very same look he sometimes finds himself to others when they show him kindness, or respect, or approval; that desperate, surprised, grateful expression.
Thank you for your compassion.
I will never forget this.
And as Qrow ponders this, Absol suddenly starts shoving him in the opposite direction. Before he can even react, a tree—rotting from the influence of insects and fungi—snaps and collapses right where Qrow was standing only moments before, so surprisingly quick that he could never hoped to have used his weapon or gotten out of the way in time.
Absol saved him. From what was presumably Misfortune, at that.
And from that day on, they are inseparable. Always sticking together as constant companions. Qrow learns the truth. that Absol warn others of disaster rather than cause it, and his connection to the Pokémon somehow strengthens even more. He has an idea of what that's like.
Qrow and Absol are partners for many, many years to come.
(And yet, there is one particular cynical thought running circles in Qrow's head, almost constantly.)
(If Absol warns others of disaster, is Absol here to protect Qrow... or herald him?)

hello fren :3 what's your favorite scene in rwby?
thank you for asking!! i knew the answer to this immediately and it kinda hurt me (the answer did) bc i have a long ass post in my drafts from before v8 talking about my favorite scene in rwby and then my hopes for volume 8. lets just say it aged poorly. anyways!
my favorite scene in rwby is the "you idiot" scene, i posted it a couple days ago actually.
reasons:
metal tit out
the way you can see james' face change when he realizes qrow is not in fact aiming for him.
you can count it, james stares at qrow in slo-mo for ten straight seconds (more like gay seconds)
qrow saving james' life
"heh, you idiot, i know you didn't do this" (because obviously james why would you do this). qrow SMILES at him after they fought and danced around each other this whole season.
"so what now, general?" qrow, who previously makes a big deal about how he's not one of james' special operatives and how he has no obligation to listen to him, makes a point to give him control in this situation when he is clearly lacking it (his robots are hacked, his airship hijacked, his clothes torn off in what must have been a very sexy show-down). throwback to "jimmy" "general!" "whatever!" and flash forward to "if you don't want to believe that i'm friends with ironwood" "general ironwood!" "yeah, general ironwood, then fine." which is the only other time he calls him that.
basically it just shows that they care about and respect each other and that qrow, to some extent, understands james and what he was feeling in that situation. also this is the last time they see each other before volume 7 which gives a lot of potential for angst.
they have passionate gay sex after this though

I’m watching a video about RWBY and it got to the racism portion (a sentence I never thought I’d say) and it brought back my somewhat… idk the word, hesitance? with fantasy racism
Like, I love it as much as the next guy (but only with Bakugou angst because I’m a simple minded person like that) but like, most of the time the oppressed races are idk monsters or have animal traits or are just idk fairies or smth
And I know it’s not reflecting the author/writer’s view on actual POC, but in all these instances I’ve seen (there are probably a lot of exceptions that I haven’t seen), there’s always something fundamentally different. Like, you know it’s wrong to discriminate, but in the same vein there are these differences that make them abnormal and they aren’t “just like us” or whatever. Like skin color and whether you’re a giant green monster aren’t comparable
It feels like a simple view of what racism actually is, or at least a simple way to portray it, bc racism is systemic not personal. It’d be hard to portray this without using, like, a story about real world racism (like against POC) and it adds more to fantasy worlds ig? And also it’s not like it’s always a 1-1 “this is how racism in the real world is” But yeah
Idk I feel sorta weird about it even if I understand the purpose
