uh ok imagine the blades of grass things in the jailer's hand here are actually like glowing threads of her soul. i could prob color just this part to make it more clear but my body goes limp like a marionette when i think about exerting that small amount of effort to make my comic more legible

it took me a while to figure out dalaran apprentice jaina but i hope i captured that wide-eyed idealism and sense of hope/optimism. and sylvanas is just some very important elf with some thousand years under her belt give or take who fell in love with a human. i mean who can blame her when jaina looks that cute

#world of warcraft #anduin wrynn #Garrosh follows this with something like 'yeah your not but maybe i am' so i sorta take the quote out of context but #I remember Anduin being very upset about the mere idea hes compaired to Arthas #Its always seemed to me that his similarities with arthas are something that lowkey bothers him because so many only see that in him #Of course people hurt by Arthas will be a bit weary of a human boy with blonde hair who claims to champion the light and justice #Especially one who is a prince of an important human kingdom #So its something hes self-conscious of and is keen to prove people he's not destine to fail #Which is why #even if he didn't become another Arthas entirely #what happens in SLs is so much more traumatic to him #He hurt people he cared about #he hurt innocent souls #((and his situation of mind control is more akin to sylvanas' then arthas but does he see that that way? Or do his fears blind his view?)) #And blizz didnt go into detail what this meant but Arthas was used against him literally #My headcanon is that Anduin knew and could feel it and hear arthas in the sword #but in the cinematic anduin is surprised by arthas' soul appearing so canon says anduin didnt know #He dissappers because he is unsure if the bad feelings he felt orignated from him or zovaal or arthas so #prehaps he is afraid that everyone was right to be weary of him #Maybe he didnt end up as arthas at the end of shadowlands but that doesnt mean he can't still go down a dark path #he is afraid he is more capable of becoming an unjust and cruel leader then he thought he could #His people have every right to be upset that he abandoned them #but they dont know that he left because he was afraid he could hurt them and feel joy from it

also this isnt really proper shade at larian or anything and the writing of this game is SAURE good so dont take it this way but.

i sure do wish. Minthara was not villain batted as hard as she was. Her being locked to "evil" runs and being mutually exclusive with several party members. Her being nothing more than a miniboss for your average player- who does not even know shes a potential party member! Her being so chronically unloved by the community because... shes the "evil" companion. Hell, even the amount of people saying frankly really edgy shit about killing her or hurting her completely unprompted lmao. Like I genuinely think shes been pretty unfairly demonized both by the community and by the meta of just like... the game itself because she's really actually..... kind of, dare I say, sweet? if you get to know her. ugh.

#also if i had two nickles. shes sylvanas all over again lads i fear #idk obviously larian handles her character much better than wow ever handled sylvanas but its genuinely like #kind of eerie how similar they are and how hard they where both villain batted considering how evil they actually are #ESP compared to their male counterparts #like i would argue that neither of them are any more evil- and likely are even less evil- than a lot of the men in the same game that #are not villain batted at all. #like every character in warcraft is a war criminal so sylvanas is hardly uniquely evil on that front #and i have a hard time buying that minthara is anymore inherently evil than astarion lol #idk again larian handles trauma much better and it feels... inauthentic to accuse them of not treating minthara well because shes #traumatized. thats def not the argument im making here but it IS really sad to relate to / find catharsis in another traumatized elf #only for her to be. villain batted just like the last one :/ #idk. its just a bummer. #like again thankfully its not a thesis of larians like. karlach and shadowheart and laezel are all beautiful and wonderful examples of like #traumatized women allowed to be angry and validated for being angry #BUT im selfish haha i want my bestie minthara to be able to have a happy ending w the rest of us and i dont want to see her demonized for #idk being a traumatized angry woman like!! it seems outta place for that to be the message but #whatever im rambling ive lost the plot #my post

You know I don’t really bother posting about how awful I find the World of Warcraft writing because everyone already knows but the fact that they’ve never had Sylvanas and Jaina interact is just insane to me. Like if I had two characters with that many parallels between the two of them I know I’d have them speak to each other. 

Like. The fact they never even mention each other at any point ??? Nothing from Jaina about how her ex boyfriend killed Sylvanas and she feels bad about it ??? Nothing from Sylvanas about how Jaina had a chance to stop said boyfriend but simply walked away?? Nothing about how there was a time where the pair of them were ruling the spilt remains of Lordaeron ??? No, Nothing ?????

World of Warcraft could have such beautiful characters if the writers would lean into the flaws that their major “good guys” are seemingly accidentally given (ex- Alexstrasza) and if they could follow through on the seeds of sympathy they seem to accidentally sow along their major “bad guys” (ex- Sarkareth)

Or if they could stick to established story pieces instead of writing retcons that ruin tragedies (ex- Neltharion) or “epilogues” that sour the memory of the character (ex- Arthas)

#the character assassination of Sylvanas deserves a mention too #at some point you just have to take a step or two back from canon and start playing with the characters like dolls #we have a fun world and a solid base but man the rest does start to feel so weak the more you examine it #world of warcraft
