please rant about bubbline, i need a win

the brilliance of bubbline has been vastly misunderstood for years and i’ll explain. people see bubbline as your standard sapphic couple with no real depth, people see the pairing and go ‘gfs’ and move on HOWEVER they are so much more than just girlfriends. they are two immortal beings who for years have been wrapped around the other fingers and have had a relationship based on miscommunication until wrapping that up during the stakes era (varmints s7 is what confirms this but we get into that later)

so the entirety of bubbline is based on miscommunication and you may be wondering: aimsey, how? well that’s because of the fact both of the pair believed the other was in the wrong. but, for us to discuss this, i must explain their relationship in its entirety. we understand how long their relationship has truly been going on for when there is a clip in obsidian distant lands (ODS) where bubblegum catches marcys rock tshirt, both when the pairing are younger or well “a longer time ago” - this shows how long they’ve truly been in each others lives. now, fast forward to the scene we get in ODS where marceline and bubblegum argue over the sense of power, as well as immaturity. we see marceline wanting to just hang with her girlfriend, while in a disruptive manner, meant no harm, and we see bubblegum attempting to focus on work while accidentally shutting marceline down in the process. that quickly escalates into a full blown argument, and quotes like “you’re acting like monster trash” is thrown at marceline which, marcy being an angsty little half demon, didn’t take too lightly in which she responded to the comment with a song that basically says “nvm. you’re not cool. i’m glad i woke up. fuck you and your candy kingdom” and it ends with bubblegum breaking up with marcy. sad right? you haven’t seen anything yet

so now we move on to the tv show. the first we see of the two is the episode ‘go with it’ where marcy is asked to help finn in his adventure to try and ask out the princess. you may be wondering “huh? but if bubblegum is her ex why would she help-“ WRONG! because she doesn’t help! she gives finn completely wrong advice which ends in finn getting thrown out of the candy kingdom. the interaction between the two during this episode is bitter, where we see marceline speak in a high pitched tone and say ‘hello bonnibel’ almost mockingly, in response to bubblegums ‘hey marceline..’ which is incredibly stand offifish. from the get go, we know something happened between them (and with obvious clues now we know the timeline but as a first time viewer, this random episode in s1 can confuse everyone because why do these two characters have beef we don’t know about?)

now, moving onto an important core episode in their timeline which is ‘what was missing’ in season 3. one of the most popular adventure time episodes, and one of the most popular bubbline moments where we see bubblegum and marcy being forced to be together due to finn and jake attempting to take down a “door lord” that includes all of the teams prized possessions. (tldr: little gremlin dude stole jake, finn, bubblegum and marcelines* top favourite and most memorable items.. we will get back to this shortly). anyway, they have to sing a song of truth to get passed and with a failed attempt, marceline tries and lets say she just unleashes all the resentment and anger she’s had towards bubblegum in the form of a song! she says stuff like “i wanna drink the red from your pretty pink face”, “sorry i don’t treat you like a goddess”, and “why should i be the one to make up with you.. so why do i want to?” - indicating she WANTS to. which is probably the first time bubblegum has heard this, because bubblegums reaction is very much just “:O” the entire time. anyway, song goes on, marcy blames bubblegum for her messing up (in reality marcy only messed up because she began saying she wants to bury bubblegum but that isn’t true so the door didn’t accept it. L). anyway, they make up soon enough when finn does his little finn thing and everything is fine.. until bubblegum tries to go against the door lord with a “calculation” which appears to be false and it messes everything up - marcy uses this failure of hers to kinda rub it in her face, watching the princess fail was a positive in marcelines eyes as she was used to seeing bubblegum put work before her so of course she will use any moment of bonnie messing up as a win. she says “looks like you aren’t as perfect as you thought..” which has bonnie respond with “i never said you had to be perfect!” .. OUCHIE!! this leads to them getting upset, finn doing a little sing song which actually opens the door, and them getting their stuff back.. YIPPEE! now, you may be wondering “what was the stuff bubbline had stolen from them?” WELLLL LEMME TELL YOU. bubblegums most prized possession was THE ROCK T-SHIRT that MARCY GAVE HER years ago. marceline blushes as she says “you.. kept the shirt i gave you?” and bubblegum replies “yeah it uh.. means a lot to me” and marcy asks why because bonnie never wears it, to which bonnie replies “i wear it all the time. as panama’s.” .. NOTHING MORE GAY THAN SLEEPING IN YOUR EXES SHIRT THEY GAVE YOU THERE IS NO HETEROSEXUAL EXPLANATION FOR THIS!!!! anyway, marcy didn’t actually *have* an item stolen from her and instead it seems she just wanted to hang out with the team, more importantly wanted to hang out with her pink haired ex girlfriend. good stuff!

anyway, next important interaction i’m highlighting comes from the season 5 episode ‘sky witch’ (there is a lot of smaller key moments but i’m jumping to this one okay moving on) anyway, there is a huge moment at the start of sky witch where bubblegum begins by.. sniffing the shirt marceline gave her.. as she wakes up, to then opening her closet to get ready for the day and we see a polaroid of the pairing IN THE CLOSET… you get my drift? anyway, it slowly moves on to marcy asking PB for help with something (in reality she needs PB to help her recover a teddy bear that was stolen from her that was given to her by her literal father figure during the mushroom war.. so it has a lot of significance. remember that). anyway, PB agrees after the tiniest of convincing and on they go! they go on this adventure, but we will skip to the end where PB magically gets the teddy back.. how? well, we don’t find out until the end of the episode where bubblegum actually traded the rock shirt marcy gave her all those years ago. why did that work you ask? because the sky witch works from the value of items, and not money value, but emotional significance.. SO IT MEANS THE ROCK SHIRT MARCY GAVE HER HAD MORE EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT AND SIGNIFICANCE THAN THE LITERAL TEDDY GIVEN TO MARCY DURING A LITERAL WAR FROM HER OWN FATHER FIGURE THAT ABANDONED HER!!!!!! MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!

okay okay, need more information? i’ve got you! we will quickly move onto VARMINTS my favourite episode of all time. “why aimsey?” because it gives us all the answers and clues we were waiting for when it comes to PB and marcys relationship. we learn that bonnie was unaware of the reason as to why marcy believed they stopped talking and broke up, we see bonnie apologise for hurting marcy and shutting her out, and we see marceline accept her apology as the pair can finally move on and accept the past. after seven whole seasons we get closure baby! the episode is brilliant in millions of ways, as we see bonnie be vulnerable around marceline regarding her loss of the candy kingdom, we see marcy reconciling with bonnie as they travel through the tunnels the pair used to explore years and years before, and it’s just a very nice episode. we are hit with the infamous quote “bonnibel bubblegum, always so prepared.” to which bonnie replies in a stern tone “yeah, i have to be always so prepared, we can’t all just wing it!” which is almost a dig at marcelines free spirit nature, but not out of malice, out of jealousy. bonnie wishes she had that, and not the huge amount of responsibility she has been burdened with since she was barely old enough to understand what it means to be mature. marcy saying the words “is that why you stopped talking to me?” after hearing bonnie go on a rant about how responsibility is difficult always hits me in my heart because it proves marcy to this day, although being bitter about it, believes the reason bonnie shut her out was because bonnie preferred work over her and that was marcelines biggest fear (as we know from getting shut out from her mother, her father and being abandoned by simon). bonnie going “no?!” because she genuinely just didn’t even think to see that may have been the reason the two fell out; both of the pair believing it was the other that lead to the fallout and bonnie not realising it may have involved her a lot more than she thought and it wasn’t just down to marceline being immature. anyway, episode ends with bonnie apologising, marcy accepts it, and we get a very sweet moment where bonnie is vulnerable and explains she is exhausted and marcy allows her to sleep on her shoulder as she rests. very cute :)

okay now stakes the mini series is a whole new realm for stuff regarding the pairs relationship. the stakes mini series is highlighting marcelines relationship with vampirism, and is a very beautiful series i recommend everyone watches. it begins with marceline burning in the sun, and slowly moves on to her asking bonnie to help her with the procedure of turning her into a human because she no longer wants to be a vampire - huge thing to ask, and bonnie ensures she is sure, and they do the procedure. a moment from this i think about a lot is where bonnie says this while doing the procedure regarding the fact marcy will no longer be immortal: “and when you die, i’ll be the one who puts you in the ground”. i think it’s just a nice quote. anyway, there are so many key moments from stakes but i’ll highlight important ones because it’s 5 episodes jam packed of bubbline but another moment is where they are searching for one of the vampires to hunt (this’ll make more sense if you watch it but TLDR: the procedure also unleashed all the vampires marcy has defeated in her years of growing up). PB and marcy are doing jumping jacks, and marcy is explaining a dream she had where in the dream marcy was all old, but PB was still “nice and pink” - meaning marcy was dreaming of her immortality being taken away, and dreaming about how in her future when she’s old, she’s with PB and she’s grown old with her (aww). bubblegum replies “you think i’m nice?” and it’s a very sweet moment where the pair blush. marcy then explains she has a weird feeling in her stomach, and PB asks if it’s just fear and marcy explains she knows what fear feels like already, and then goes “maybe it’s.. love?” regarding what the feeling is while looking at bubblegum and ITS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL MOMENT THAT DRIVES ME INSANE BECAUSE HOLY!!!! MOLY!!!!!!!! she was just hungry (lmao) and we move on! another scene is where marceline gets hurt badly, and bonnie is begging for her to wake up as she holds marcys lifeless body in her arms and it’s just a very emotional scene of bonnie begging her to wake up when she thinks marcy is about to die and it’s just very sad and beautiful. i’m gonna quickly move on towards the end of stakes as we have more to cover but during the end, marcy gets turned back into a vampire but explains she has learned a lot and she thanks bubblegum, and says the beautiful quote “thanks for helping me grow up. now i guess we get to hang out together forever” and bonnie blushes in return and it’s just such an AAHHHHH scene!!!!!

now, we are rushing towards the finale (i’m missing some very key moments but i’ve been writing this for an hour straight without stopping i will fill in the blanks later) but basically during the final episode, marcy stops bonnie and begs her not to go to war - bonnie replies she has to, and in this moment you can see marcy more so terrified that this will result in her losing bonnie for the second time due to work and she doesn’t want this. its canon at this point the pair are dating again, and we see them chit chat before moving on as the battle starts. fast forward to bonnie getting really injured, and in result of this marceline loses her literal shit and punts the monster that killed bonnie after believing her girlfriend just got smothered and really badly injured - after this, marcy is out of breath and we see bonnie sit up and whisper ‘marcy?’ in a soft tone and marcy flies over just overjoyed she is okay. marcy says “even when we weren’t talking i was scared something bad would happen to you and i wouldn’t be there to protect you” and it’s such a raw line where it’s just obvious throughout all these years marceline never truly moved on from her. marcy and her giggle and then bubbline share their first on screen kiss that made thousands of gays across the globe pass away!!!

then, we have the beautiful obsidian distant lands that gives us insight into their very healthy relationship as we learn a lot more about the pair, and we just get some beautiful shared moments between them and even them canonically calling each other girlfriends which will never not be engraved in my brain!

this was everything from the top of my head (they will be my number one hyperfixation whether i like it or not until i pass away) but yeah! tldr: miscommunication lead to them not speaking for a very long time when the pair both just wanted to be loved but didn’t know how to balance their own stuff on top of loving the other. the miscommunication lied with bonnie throwing herself into her work instead of giving marceline attention, ultimately losing marcys trust in the process, and where marceline being a free spirit lead to bonnie just not being able to work like that as she “isn’t built like that” (her own quote “people get built different. we don’t need to figure it out, we just gotta accept it”. despite it being about her brother, i like to apply it to her also here). and marceline not giving PB the credit of her being a literal ruler burdened with responsibility. both were too young i’d say, but them growing up together and allowing the other to heal in their own ways lead them to each other again :)

i think its fair to say that Finn is absolutely an extremely important presence in Bubblegum's life, way more significant than she generally lets on at least earlier in the series, though it is supported when by the time of Pajama Wars she is going out of her way to just hang out with him and he seems to be just about one of the very few people PB is honest with or lets her defenses down around

but another big element of it, ironically, ties back to their relationship becoming unrequited pining on Finn's end. PB ended it by going 'oh, silly boy, that was YEARS ago!' when its unclear how much of that is her fucking around and not taking it seriously, especially when PB is often not entirely honest about her feelings.

It IS clear that at the time, she had been taking it seriously; she genuinely wanted to stay a kid and with Finn, though responsibility demanded otherwise. But it is notable that while she sort of implies its not a romance anymore at the time, she otherwise just sort of leaves it hanging and seems to be ignoring it, or trying not to think about it, and that IS extremely significant in the light of The Suitor.

This episode establishes that PB has no patience or interest in actual suitors of any kind, firmly rebuffing them and refusing any kind of flirtation. If they want to waste their time waiting in line to court her when she makes it clear its not going to happen, that's their problem. But with Finn, she doesn't do this. She doesn't encourage it, but she also doesn't just go 'NOT GONNA HAPPEN' in a direct sense.

Significantly, PB doesn't address it at all, and this is EXTREMELY atypical in her normal characterization. She is blunt and direct to a point that it is the reason she and Marceline originally broke up, and as we see in The Suitor she does not care for anyone courting her.

PB not addressing it at all is a notable outlier in her behavior, and being secretive about her feelings is a recurring motif (as we see with her and Marceline); this suggests that Finn is an extremely important person to her, and that she goes out of her way to avoid addressing them at all when normally she doesn't avoid it at all suggests that its all a huge complicated mess that may frankly concern her a bit.

the complex and uncertain nature of PB's feelings towards/about Finn raise a lot of questions because of how much of an outlier they are compared to the way she normally is; if you compare the way PB acts around Finn (very honest, kind of socially awkward) to the way she acts when acting in an official capacity around everyone else (usually bouncing back and forth between regal granduer and informal wackiness for comic effect, but always feeling in control and self assured) it definitely feels like she's sort of taking the mask off compared to how she acts otherwise.

I feel like this is the most basic answer ever but TP Link for sure. And it’s not even just because he’s conventionally super attractive in that game or the whole wolf thing, which I am stereotypically still obsessed with, not sorry.

It’s honestly because TP Link was given a lot of depth thanks to the (somewhat divisive) long tutorial section where you learn how much his community relies on him and how selflessly he protects and aids them, esp those annoying ass kids lol. Link tends to be a blank slate for players to project on to, but TP felt like more of a departure from that philosophy.

TP link also feels the most fully realized as a person to me. His obvious (both platonic and non-platonic imo) affection for Midna and Illia. How close he comes to be corrupted by the power of the fused shadow. The lengths he will go to to protect others. I feel like some games in the series TELL us how great and moral Link is more than SHOW us. TP really shines in this regard. There’s no need to say that Link is good; we can see he is through his actions.

He’s the whole package in TP. That’s why he wins in my book. Even though there’s no Sheik… 😭

I do, however, need to give a honorary mention to OOT Link. He was my introduction to the franchise and I was head over heels for that polygon-ass character model in 1998 LOL. I related a lot to OOT Link and obviously write the most for him.

I’ve always wanted to write TP Link and even have a fic idea but I can’t pursue it until I finish Sanctuary (dumb stipulation I’ve put on myself lmao). Anyway, that’s my answer. I would love to hear what your pick is anon! And anyone reading this—put your opinions in the replies! I’m so curious which Link others choose.

Spoon's Q&A, fun facts and more! (NHK Culture Center Class)

As promised, I have translated the contents of Spoon's NHK class. This post includes answers to the Q&A, fun facts and interesting info I noticed from the session.

Disclaimer: Unless stated otherwise, these aren't direct quotes, nor a literal or complete translation of the whole class (it was over an hour long, it would have taken me much longer...), it's a summary. Also, Spoon talked very fast, so while I fact-checked my notes with native speakers and translators, I could have made mistakes.

Q&A

Q: The outfits featured on “Who Made Me A Princess” are very beautiful, what’s the process behind their designs? [Note: This was my question!]

A: When designing the outfits, Spoon researches the appropriate aristocratic costumes and dress codes, mainly from the 1870’s and 1880’s. She also uses material collections, books about clothing and web seaches, and used them as reference for details and hairstyles. In fact, this process could get very research-intensive and take many hours, something Spoon hadn’t anticipated, so she thanks the readers for liking them and taking notice of the clothes’ details.

Q: How did you come up with the name "Spoon"?

A: A friend recommended it to me, saying that the pronunciation of the word "spoon" was cute and that it suited my illustrations.

Q: While there are happy times when you draw manga, you must have also experienced many difficult and sad times. Is there anything that gave you the strength to overcome those difficult times?

A: The words of support and feedback from the readers gave Spoon strenght. When she heard that one of them was able to overcome depression after reading "Who Made Me A Princess", she was really moved to tears. Another happy event she remembers was when a foreign reader sent her a letter and a gift through the publisher company. She was so grateful that they would come all the way here [Korea], and also thanks the publisher company.

Q: What’s the most important thing to focus on while doing art, and is it needed to receive formal education or one could be self-taught? This may be a contradictory question, but what do you do when you lose interesting in drawing or you don't want to draw? Also, what’s your favorite type of ramen? [Yes this is the correct translation lol]

A: Spoon believes that the most important thing while doing art is to complete your work. If you don't complete it first, you can’t find flaws or bad points in your art to improve. Whether you learn by self-study or by attending art school, if you can become a professional or not depends on your effort. Try to be as specific as possible in your goals, and think about what you need to do to become better at painting than you are now. When Spoon is feeling unmotivated, she thinks to myself, "If I take a break now, I will regret it later, won't I?".

Among Korean ramen, a type called of sesame ramen called "Chamke ramen" is Spoon's favorite.

Q: I was always impressed by the beauty of Spoon-sensei's paintings. I wanted to know if there is an artist that influenced your art.

A: Spoon’s style has been influenced by the art of Naoko Takeuchi [Called it] author of Sailor Moon, Ikuko Ito, creator of Princess Tutu and animation director of the original Sailor Moon anime, and Katekyo Hitman Reborn’s author, Akira Amano [In fact, Spoon is a big fan of the series. You can check some of her old fanart here]. Spoon says that she respects them very much.

Q: Do you have any stories, manga, TV dramas or anime that have been greatly influential for you?

A: Studio Ghibli’s Nausicaä and Laputa: Castle in the Sky, and Disney’s Moana, stories where the female protagonist has adventures and overcomes adversity. Spoon thinks those stories of growth are really wonderful.

Q: What’s your favorite anime?

A: Spoon likes all the films directed by Hayao Miyazaki.

Q: The person asking this questions comments that, after reading "Who Made Me A Princess" they gradually became interested in family stories in which two characters who were indifferent before become close and come to cherish each other very much. Their question is, since there are many combinations and genre settings, if there's a particular pattern or setting that Spoon personally likes.

A: Spoon likes to see a character change depending on emotions such as love and friendship. Emotions are intangible, but they have the power to change a person's personality and behavior. She thinks that's what is so wonderful about it.

Q: At what stage do you draw the shadows? Do you add them in from the beginning or in the middle [of the process of painting]? Also, when do you start thinking about putting shadows in there? I would like to know if there are any points you are conscious of when drawing.

A: Spoon adds shadows when she is considering the surrounding lighting of the drawing. Even if the object in particular is a flat surface, it's important to paint it as if it were three-dimensional. In order to get better at this, it's absolutely necessary to carefully observe photographs to see the way in which shadows are cast when an object is exposed to light.

Q: When you are drawing, which part do you like the most?

A: Spoon enjoys when she is putting the finishing touches the most. She is filled with a sense of accomplishment after completing it.

Q: In some scenes, Athy does a swirly gesture with her arms when she is embarrassed. The person who asked this question doesn’t quite understand it, as it’s not something you see in Japanese manga, and would like Spoon to explain it a little.

A: [Spoon shows gifs of Korean TV shows where the participants make a sort of “grabby hands” motion] Spoon laughs and explains that this is a common physical way to convey embarrassment, surprise or cringe in Korean culture [If you search “오글거리다” you can find some examples]. The word used literally means that your limbs "shrink", so that's where the gesture comes from, but it can also be used in other situations, such as being horrified, in pain or cold. In Japan, this is usually represented with goosebumps.

Spoon elaborates about how certain cultural differences are fascinating. For example, when someone is talking about a character behind their back or in another place, in Japanese media the character will usually sneeze. On the other hand, in Korea that kind of situation has the character’s ears suddenly itching.

Q: The person asking the question says that the way in which Spoon draws jeweled eyes is very beautiful. They want to know how did Spoon think of that idea, or if she developed a process of creating them.

A: How she would draw the jeweled eyes was one of the things that Spoon worried about the most. What she wanted to convey was the feeling of a “cut gemstone”, and how precious, shining and beautiful the eyes look [Here she explains it while doing “cutting” motions with her hands. Think something similar to a karate chop]. She did her very best and is glad that she got a good response from readers.

Q: Athy and her friends looks so beautiful and cute in the dresses they wear. I would like to know what was the most difficult or honestly troublesome dress to draw in your work.

A: The coronation dress was very difficult and time-consuming to draw. At that time, Spoon had to do a lot of things at the same time, such as revising the physical version of the webtoon, so there wasn't enough time to do everything at the same time, but Spoon was happy that the effort she put into it made it look gorgeous.

Q: Who is your favorite character to draw, or the easiest to draw? And who is the most difficult to draw?

A: It’s Athy, because she’s gorgeous and cute. But Spoon also greatly enjoys drawing Lucas. Drawing him is fun because he is handsome and has many expressions. On the other hand, it's difficult to draw cautious characters because their facial expressions don't change much. However, she says that all of the characters are beautiful and elegant, so there’s no character that Spoon dislikes drawing.

Q: What is the most important thing for Spoon to draw in “Who Made Me A Princess”?

A: Spoon expands on the themes of “Who Made Me A Princess”, about the various relationships within the family that wasn't connected to one another. She thought that even if the characters shared blood, they hadn't been able to communicate, so they could only become a family if they thought about each other. And even if they are not connected by blood, if they care about each other they still can become a family.

A: Spoon imagined Diana as a minstrel or a wandering artist. Like a ballerina in a famous theater troupe who tours, she travels with her dancing and singing, putting on shows in different countries to earn money for her travels, so Spoon characterized her as a free soul.

Q: Obelia is called “the land of eternal springs and summers” in the last chapter. Does that mean winter doesn’t exist there?

A: Spoon says that indeed, there’s no cold weather in Obelia. That's why the characters don't have winter clothes. However, as there are a lot of cute designs for winter clothes, she would like to draw an illustration of the characters in winter clothes in the future.

Q: What your schedule is like when you are working on the series?

A: Spoon exercises as soon as she wakes up, for about 2 hours, eats dinner when she gets home, and starts working right away all the way until she goes to bed.

Q: It’s very rare to see Claude in uniform or tight clothes. The person asking the question wonders why Claude's clothes are so bare and asks Spoon if she could elaborate a little on his fashion sense.

A: Claude used to be a prince who wore his uniform properly, but after meeting Diana, he came to like the more casual or loose style of clothing. So Claude's fashion sense comes from Diana’s influence on him. Even when he didn’t remember her, he kept wearing such clothes because of that influence, and also because he genuinely likes them.

Q: Who’s Spoon’s favorite guy?

A: [With no hesitation] Claude.

Q: How did you improve your drawing skills before becoming an illustrator?

A: Spoon used to emulate her favorite artists and draw fanart.

Q: Do you have a favorite japanese word?

A: When she was traveling in Japan, Spoon was impressed by the name “Nippori” [Referring to Nippori train station]. She looked up the meaning and thought “Oh, so that’s what it means!” [Note: Nippori means “place where the sun sets”]. In Nippori, she didn’t do anything in particular, Spoon just passed by it on the train.

Q: "Who Made Me A Princess" has great clothes, but I also like the flowers that appear in each scene. I know some of them problably don't exist, but is there a flower that you use as a model?

A: It was a long time ago, so Spoon doesn't remember much, but she tried to draw beautiful flowers with overlapping petals.

Q: Is there anything that Spoon-sensei takes special care of in terms of physical condition?

A: Her wrists. Spoon demonstrates how she does her stretching routine. She also takes supplements when needed.

Q: I love Athy's hair color, it's so soft. Did you have any difficulties or problems deciding on that color?

A: At first her hair was a little darker, but Claude's hair is a dark blond and Athy's is a light blonde. So, in order to make a difference between them, Spoon lightened Athy's hair. She had a hard time fixing it so it wouldn't be too bright.

Q: What do you keep in mind about color schemes when you paint? They are always beautiful and I'm always fascinated by them.

A: Spoon tries not to make the color scheme too dark or complex [This answer was hard to hear, it could mean too dark or complicated/oversaturated].

Q: A question asking for commentary on the characters' expression and they way in which Spoon draws them. The answer focuses on Claude’s expression when Athy collapses in Chapter 18. The comments mention how Claude’s perspective of it in Chapter 102 was very moving and made everyone cry. [Here Spoon showed the panel of Claude’s surprised face].

A: That scene was especially difficult for Spoon. It's a precious scene that shows how Claude had allowed his heart to worry about Athy. It was quite difficult because she had to give the expression a “Claude-like” quality and be careful to not deviate from his personality, but she also had to express how shocked he was. But it was a lot of fun despite the difficulties.

After reading the comments saying that this scene made everyone cry, Spoon adds that this is her favorite scene in the webtoon.

Q: The last question of the class. What will Spoon do in the future?

A: Spoon was thinking of going back to being an illustrator after the serialization of “Who Made Me A Princess” was over, but after the encouragement and happiness she received from readers, she decided to continue as a cartoonist. Look forward to seeing her next work!

Fun Facts and Other Info

I'll answer what everyone is probably wondering about first: No, there was no mention of the side stories. But also, no one really asked about it. It seems to be a sort of taboo topic among japanese readers, and since there is some kind of issue with their publication, nobody touched the subject to not ruin the happy mood.

Apparently, Spoon received over 1000 questions for the Q&A.

The NHK translator mentioned that there were students from many countries!

Spoon gave a quick overview of her working tools. They include: a Cintiq 27QHD (tablet), two Dell monitors, and a Streamdeck. She also mentions using a 24-inch pen now, because it's easier to use.

Spoon has volume 9's cover as her PC's wallpaper.

Spoon's voice is very cute! But wow, she talks so fast. Taking notes was very challenging.

She seemed to be shy but was very happy and looked healthy! The first thing she did was thank the readers for all their support and for giving her strength.

There were many comments about how cute the gestures Spoon made were. I agree!

Spoon has a ton of WMMAP merch. A whole bookshelf filled with it, and I believe she had at least one item of... everything. Even the chinese exclusive merch.

She also had a bunch of WMMAP volumes, both normal and limited versions!

Spoon has a special brush for drawing blushed cheeks, and it's in fact not pink but orange and light red, with the contours being lighter.

She had a very cute crab pencil holder. She said it was a gift from her assistant. Spoon likes it because it has a cute shape and she loves cute things. Like this (green one):

Most people already saw, but the results of the popularity poll for the character people wanted Spoon to draw were: Athy in 1st place, Lucas 2nd, Claude 3rd, Ijekiel 4th, and lastly Jennette 5th. The numbers of votes weren't revealed. Spoon drew the following illustration to celebrate:

I thought the last ask would have covered it all but after thinking about it, I do have a bit more to say.

In the last ask, I touched on sort of depressing, guilt tripping feeling posts - so on this one, I'll touch on a more confrontational sort of negativity - one that I've seen a lot less often but in a way, is much more alienating.

I remember a few years ago, there was this blog - nice mun at first, they tended to make a lot of very aggressive and confrontational posts insinuating the same kind of things - nobody on here cares about me or muses, nobody on here wants to write with me, that sort of stuff.

At the time, I was friendly with them and I'd lent an ear to them before - they were really angry that night, ranting and going off, asking why people didn't want to interact with them and perhaps this is where I made a mistake - I suggested maybe their posts might have made people uncomfortable given how accusatory and aggressive they came off as and how it might have made people feel nervous or quietly unfollow.

Again, that might have been a mistake but this person's reaction to that was to accuse me of victim blaming them, going off on me and it genuinely did make me think and reflect 'was i victim blaming them?' to me, they were asking why this was happening and I was suggesting what I thought it might have been - if you ask me for my genuine opinion on something, I'm going to try and be honest about it and I did try to be tactful and suggest that I could be wrong, because I'm not them or their mutuals.

But yeah, that was a whole mess and an awful night - I don't feel that I was victim blaming and I certainly didn't mean to. But whenever I see those sort of posts these days, it's an immediate unfollow from me or I don't say anything. I get being frustrated, but that's just not the way to go, in my opinion. To me, it comes off as just really angry and alienating.

Oooooh yes, I always have stepdad bucky thoughts!! And I was thinking today about how frustrating it is when you get a cute new set of underwear and you're excited to show someone and the first thing they wanna do is take it off you? Bc that lowkey used to annoy me. Push it to the side but keep it on and appreciate it and I feel like that's more his style.

Because maybe he's taking the laundry out of the dryer some night and he notices this tiny piece of black clothing tucked right in at the back. He almost missed it honestly and at first he thinks it's just a sock.

But when he pulls it out he notices the pretty little pink polka dots. Then he notices the frills and for a second, he thinks it's your mother's but once he sees the tag, he knows it can't be. Your mother has never shopped there before so there's only one other explanation.

"Jesus Christ." He mumbles, clenching the tiny piece of fabric in his fist. The rest of the laundry is left discarded in the basket as he marches his way down to your room.

"What the fuck is this?" He demands, not even knocking before bursting through the door, tossing the panties on the bed beside you. The smirk on your face does nothing to calm him. Especially since you'd know better than to put your cute new underwear in the dryer. You lived on your own for the first couple of years of college, you know how to do your washing so you wouldn't be so careless unless you wanted him to find it.

"What does it look like, daddy?" You tease, lifting the offending article of clothing, if you could even call it that before unfolding it delicately. "If you need me to, I can show you how I wear it? It looks pretty."

His eyes light up but fuck, you shouldn't be doing this. Not with your mom downstairs. "Nothing I haven't seen before, sweetheart." To the untrained ear, his voice is calm. It's measured and even and almost indifferent but it's the way his tongue runs gently along his bottom lip that gives him away.

You strip slowly, pressing him down to sit on the bed before taking your top and bra off, followed by your shoes, skirt and panties. It's a leisurely pace but time is a luxury you just don't have right now. You slip the little black panties up your legs, letting them settle on your hips, smiling softly at Bucky. He has no idea what to say, beckoning you over to stand in front of where he's sitting on the edge of the bed. You find your way between his spread legs, reaching for his belt while his warm hands map your body, drifting over your curves and delving between your thighs. As always, you do your best not to think about the slim, gold wedding band on his finger. The only reminder that this man is actually not yours at all. He's your mother's.

"Bet those boys from college would be tearing these off you already." He chuckles, his scruff tickling your bare skin as he litters kisses all over you.

You can't help but laugh because he's nailed it. They would be. But they'd also be boys who don't know how to treat a woman. They don't know how to make you feel sexy or confident or empowered because that's not really their goal. They have far more selfish intentions and that's just not the experience you have with Bucky.

"That'd be their loss though. Especially when you look so beautiful all wrapped up like this." One pointer finger gently hooks under the thin fabric, pushing it to the side and letting him trail his middle finger towards your core. Your breath hitches in your throat because it's almost embarrassing how turned on you are already.

"Hm, you're all worked up. I'm not surprised. You know why? Cause I took the time to learn your body. Unlike them, I can get you off and you fucking know it. I remind you often enough. Make this one quick, sweetie. Who knows when mommy will come looking for me."

An old meme buried in my blog somewhere idk - No Longer Accepting!

She'd been so sure that she'd had the dormitory floor kitchen to herself. With a closed door and music streaming from her mobile phone, Sonia had created the perfect holiday atmosphere to bake. Or at least, make a giant mess that caused the Ultimate Princess to swear in about a dozen different languages. Maybe it was her inappropriate verbal outburst that had prompted Kazuichi to peek his head in.

"Soda-san!" Sonia cried out in surprise, whirling around to face him. The green apron she wore had done little to protect her and her clothes from the array of ingredients: stains of various colors now adorned it, with stripes and smudges of red and green icing, dark chocolate, and white flour and sugar adorned her hands, her arms, her face, and even sections of her hair despite tying it back with a coordinating green ribbon. There was no better way to say it: Sonia Nevermind looked like a mess.

As did her Christmas cookies, or her attempt at them: half-mixed batter still clung to the beaters of the electric stand mixer, melted chocolate dripped from the corner of a counter, and burnt charcoal vaguely shaped like trees, snowflakes, reindeer, and more stuck to several metal baking sheets with melted, caramelized sugar pooling below them. At least she'd managed to crack a window open, or the smell of inedible holiday dreams was enough to make her eyes water and her nose and throat itch.

"I...I can explain..." She began. Though for the first time, she seemed to be at a loss for words of the most appropriate and concise way to convey her feelings regarding her current situation. It was easy to dismiss him when he'd salivated over her, insisting she was perfect. Now that she was so very clearly not, Sonia found herself tongue-tied. She'd wanted him to understand she had faults, but not like this. Not in something that normal people did easily. That anyone could do, that people and homes and friends and families did all over the world without incident: bake Christmas cookies.

"Well no, I suppose I cannot," She admitted with a sigh, pushing a freed lock of hair out of her face. A little more melted sprinkles would be added to her unruly hairstyle in the process. "It is just that I simply wished to bake the Christmas biscuits, or cookies, for the upcoming class holiday party! And Hanamura-san so kindly allowed me to borrow some of his kitchen tools and now not only have I used up all the ingredients, I have nothing to show for it but having ruined said tools! Everyone is going to be so very upset!"

Though likely not as upset as Sonia herself was. The frantic tone in her voice continued to raise, panicked, as tears formed at the corners of her eyes. Her hands balled into fists, clutching the material of her apron within them. No matter how hard she tried, she could not cook even the simplest recipes. Even the jovial tones of 'Jingle Bell Rock' on her mobile phone did little to brighten her mood. If she didn't truly need the device, she'd have chucked it out the window as soon as she'd opened it for ventilation: the cheery carols only served to mock her situation. That she couldn't even celebrate Christmas like a normal person.

Ah, thank you for such kind words! I also feel like i have been leaving so much of myself with The Girls that they happened to become their own, separate from the movie, people. Thank you for confirming that! It's hard for me as a creator to objectively understand what exactly you mean by saying that i have a unique view of the characters, just like it's hard for me to understand what someone means when they say they like my art style, but i think it all comes down to the fact that i unconsciously project my own experiences and personality onto the women that i draw, so they get their own little quirks and views from me. And with all the love that i put into them, they can't help but become alive in their own ways.

As for your question - yes, i have thought about opening a shop. To be honest, it is a bit of a dream of mine - to be able to support myself by doing what i love and what keeps me sane and what i do on a daily basis anyway. I imagine it would be super fulfilling to see my artwork matirialised and to know that the love that it contains could reach another human being in a physical form. I'm not scared of the amount of work it would take, since i've been balancing a 9 to 5 job with commisions and drawing for myself anyway. But it does take a lot of time and energy - resorces that i could be spending on The Girls. So it would be nice if one of those points of income could be through The Girls.

What's stopping me is the fact that i happen to be from Russia, so most of the worldwide transactions are unavailible to me at this time. I do have an audience from Russia and it is very lovely, but it's not big enough yet to start making merch, it just wouldn't pay off money vise. So in the meanwhile i'll just continue doing what i've been doing: keep drawing my ladies, keep expanding their world, keep creating more girlfriends for them. Keep sharing bits of happiness that they graciously gift me with all of you. And hope that things will get better in the future.

What is your honest opinion about Twilight Princess Zelink? I know that a lot of Zelink shippers don’t like TP Zelink(I don’t know why apart from the fact that they don’t interact much in the game and that they believe that Link and Midna have a stronger relationship together when I just don’t see it whenever I play through Twilight Princess; or they believe that Link and Illia should end up together which I can understand more because they seem like better friends. But then they’ll turn around and ship Spirit Track Zelink which I don’t really see. They feel more like cousins in ST more than every other version of Link and Zelda)

Well, if you want my honest opinion…

Meh. I’m just meh about it 😅🤷🏻‍♀️ Truly, the main Zelink that I care about is Skyward Sword, so the rest I’m kind of neutral to (OoT I’m kind of actively against but people can have their fun with it too).

That’s the short answer, long answer is under the cut.

In my opinion TP Link and his Zelda didn’t really have much of an opportunity to interact in the game for me to say they made a connection. I think they had two moments, at the beginning when Link’s like “:O She looks so pretty and sad” (I feel compelled to say here that just cause someone finds somebody else pretty doesn’t mean they’re gonna fall in love… I know you know that but the internet in general doesn’t seem to lol) and when they fight against Ganondorf together (which was really cool!). So there’s a possibility something could grow, but I… can’t entirely see it happening.

Link is clearly restless at the end of his adventure, leaving Ordon seemingly without telling everyone, but he doesn’t strike me as the type to linger in the castle all that much, which makes it difficult to get to know Zelda. I think he’s definitely the type to eventually settle down and have a family, just not really with the head of state. I think he respects her and cares for her, doesn’t mean he’s in love with her. 🤷🏻‍♀️

He definitely has more tender moments with Midna in my opinion (like after Midna tells the story of the Twili people, and she cups his cheek with her hand and asks if he’ll help her - it’s a very raw and vulnerable moment for her, and Link looks very open and soft and willing to help in response - you don’t have to read it as romantic at all, but it’s definitely an intimate moment). I think he has a stronger relationship with her, whether you choose to see it as romantic or platonic. And yeah, I agree he and Ilia could become a thing too.

Everything I see about stormlight is exactly the kind of thing I'd love to read I think except there are so many books and I have no fucking clue where to even start. So... suggestions pls?

Local libraries (I have 5 library cards for different cities) unfortunately have very little Sanderson, but I do have a £10 voucher for waterstones that I need to spend in the next year sooooo

oh hohoho ok yes i can answer this question very normally while vibrating an average amount

So, Stormlight Archive itself is a (fairly) straightforward series, but it's part of a bigger Cosmere series that is, uh, less so. I do recommend reading Mistborn at some point, since it's kinda his breakout series and will be important but uhhh i haven't done that and when in doubt you can look everything up on the wiki so anyway, here's Pocket's Reading Order

1- Warbreaker. This one is set on a different planet than Stormlight, but it's first for a couple reasons. One: it's free to read online at Sanderson's website. Two: four characters (so far) show back up in Stormlight after Warbreaker and i love them so you should know about them going in. Three: it does a good job kinda breaking down a lot of the magic workings in the Cosmere.

2- Emperor's Soul. I actually read this before i read Warbreaker but it does a REALLY good job at breaking down the magic more. I'd say this one is optional though, it's a shorter little novella and doesn't really impact the main Stormlight storyline (it's on another different planet). I'd say it kinda helps you grasp Sanderson's reading style more, because you're kinda gonna need to trust him going into Stormlight. but if you already are sold, this one isn't too vital since it can be harder to find. (on its own for audiobook, or in Arcanum Unbound collection)

3- The Way of Kings, Stormlight Archive Book One. Look. this book has three prologues and is much bigger than Warbreaker or Emperor's Soul. You've got to trust him but it's worth it. Honestly if you skipped ES, a lot of the magic explanation gets there anyway through the book, just broken up a bit more.

note: DO NOT read Way of Kings Prime, his first draft of the book. its um. its really a first draft. noncanon, a lot of the cool stuff wasnt in it yet.

4- Words of Radiance, Stormlight Archive Book Two

The sequel!

5- Edgedancer, a Stormlight Novella. Yeah you don't want to move on to book three without reading this one. Um, you can find Edgedancer in Arcanum Unbound, the same collection that Emperor's Soul is in. There are probably standalone versions of it somewhere but im not sure where. all else fails, the Coppermind Wiki has very good summaries if you want to read those to move past it. (thats uh,,,, what i did with the first mistborn trilogy oops)

5- Oathbringer, Stormlight Book Three

6- Dawnshard, a Stormlight Novella. (Lie! it's actually just long enough to be a novel but everyone very politely pretends its a novella. this one you can get by itself and ahem. if you want to borrow my copy you just let me know once you get there.)

im uh. not gonna lie to you. this book is kinda the 'lowest of lows' emotionally, it gets real dark. im p sure Brandon actually published it with a trigger warning. but its REALLY GOOD just ugh. delicious.

That's all the Stormlight books that are out so far, but uh, book Five releases 2024 and there'll probably be another novella between four and five since there was a 2.5 and 3.5 novella but thats it so far.

okay so. the thing with this ship is that. you have to understand i got back into it by opening a notes doc called ‘hawkebastian bad ending’ where hawke murders sebastian in the final confrontation instead of anders due to the whole “i am going to invade kirkwall” threat. I said “oh, I can do a quick angsty oneshot and get back in the da2 mood, this’ll be fun, it’s a very tragic turn for my Main Hawke (blue/mage/in a bit of an It’s Complicated with varric). That’ll be it.”

But then I played da:i again so I made up a new da2 worldstate and fell in love with Jessalyn Hawke (red/rogue/rivalmance Sebastian) so deeply that I still had a ‘look how they massacred my girl’ moment when I ran into The DA:I Hawke Situation. In my mind they’re basically a... it’s like they’re both the desperately lonely person trying to wallpaper over the void in their souls using the love of the other person in the relationship. I have this little outline—that I’m pretending isn’t growing into a Bigger Story—where somewhere post-leandra’s death but pre-champion fight, Jessa and Sebastian head off deeper into the free marches on A Generic Quest and stumble into a very quick romance novel where they’re Overcome With Passion in a barn and the next morning decide “oh you have to Take Responsibility For Me” and get secret-married in a provincial chantry and just... do not tell anyone about it. (there’s a lot of ‘broke my vows’ guilt for seb and a lot of ‘everyone i love dies’ fear for jessa but again, they’re both so so lonely and want to hold onto each other even if it hurts). Secret marriage! Complications! Jessa ‘murder-machine’ Hawke head over heels for Sebastian ‘burns-for-revenge’ Vael!

Does she still kill him at the end of the game? I haven’t decided yet! We’re seeing where it goes! They definitely make each other worse—but how bad could having someone that loves you really be?

okay i am still working on that henry percy write-up but another angle i wish was explored more:

very few allow for the possibility that chapuys was exaggerating jane’s support of mary as heir to the throne to the extent he was because he’s gone beyond and arguably to some extent, even against charles’ advice/instruction in his support of jane and active role in the boleyn downfall, over any princess charles wanted him to wed when it became clear there would be a new english queen (consort)....

of course he’s lost face regardless, but the solution to minimize that (basically, for promising different outcomes than resulted and overestimating jane’s influence on henry and the power that would be hers once queen) might have been to repeatedly insist that jane was vehemently attempting intercession for mary and even to reinstate her as heir, but that henry was dead-set against this, and of course, nobody could ever have predicted this (it was within the expectations of the ambassador’s role to predict political outcomes, an element where chapuys was more often than not, an abysmal failure, particularly wrt this timeline)

aside from the one report of the bishop of faenza ( she has five times thrown herself publicly at the King's feet, requesting him to send for his daughter and declare her Princess), who was not the most reliable source of the tudor court, this is not corroborated by any other contemporary source beyond a report that mary sat at the king and queen’s table for meals (much later), and the later spanish chronicle. chapuys’ own eventual face-to-face meeting with jane preceding mary’s capitulation contained commitment from her that was soon interrupted by henry, although of course chapuys attempts to spin this as best he can and save face later when events plummet soon after:

the satisfaction of this people with the marriage was incredible, especially at the restoration of the Princess to the King's favor and to her former condition [...] begged her to favor her interests; which she said she would do [...] I begged him the day before, when he spoke about it, to take care that it did not contain anything which could directly or indirectly touch her right, or the honor either of herself or of the late Queen, her mother, nor yet her conscience; otherwise she would not consent thereto for all the gold in the world [...] Meanwhile I went to talk with this Queen's brother, whom I left very well informed of the great good it would be, not only to the Queen his sister and all their kin, but also to the realm and all Christendom likewise, if the Princess were restored to her rights; and I am sure he will use his good offices therein. [...] the King got into a great anger against the obstinacy and disobedience of the said Princess, showing clearly that he bore her very little love or goodwill [...] In this case it would be important for the Princess to be declared heiress, at least in case of no male heirs. Has some hopes of this from the demonstration lately made by the King, the Queen's goodwill to her, and the words of Cromwell. [...] it was proposed to deprive the Bastard and make [Mary] heiress [...] the matter proceeded so far that, in spite of the prayers of this Queen, which he rudely repulsed, the King called the judges to proceed according to law to the inquest and first sentence which is given in the absence of the parties [...] I even sent to [Cromwell] several times, when matters were so desperate, to advise the Princess to consent to the King's will, and I have since fully assured him that he should know before two months were over that there was no man in the world who had done better service in this matter than I. / the danger of interrupting our negociations for amity, in which the English proceed so coldly that I know not what to say / The ambassador writes that she was a maid of the late Queen, and afterwards of Anne Boleyn; that she is virtuous and kindly and welldisposed to the Princess, in whose favor she has spoken to the King, and that there were hopes of her being declared true heir in the parliament. / They have also renewed and aggravated the statutes against those who should use the name of Pope, which is also treason; and it is said they will cause the whole realm to be sworn again, in confirmation of the statutes against the Holy See, against the marriage of the late good Queen and the legitimacy of the Princess, to whom no one should dare give that title on pain of his life. / [...] doubted whether he should have any child by the Queen; for which reason he intended, in a few days, to declare the Princess heir of the kingdom / I think the Princess has acted more prudently, whatever Count Cifuentes and Doctor Ortiz may say, who in my opinion have not considered all the circumstances. / The Princess is well. Since her reconciliation to her father, she has been treated even with more ceremony than in times past. / As to the Princess, Cromwell tells me she will be declared heiress apparent without fail. / She is now served as Princess. / Chapuis writes on Sept. 2 that the Princess is well, and is served as Princess.

jane either over-promised or chapuys exaggerated the vehemence of her promise (he certainly did cromwell’s... ‘without fail’ indeed); edward it seems made no commitment at all (none chapuys reports, at least...) and yet he is ‘sure’ he will do his utmost to restore her to her rights.

the question becomes, what corroborating evidence do we have of chapuys’ reports on this dynamic as he reported? really it’s only mary’s letter to jane, which seems to be in response to a letter of support jane only wrote and sent after mary’s submission/capitulation (the copy of which has not, frustratingly, survived, although mary quotes it partially-- “no less full of motherly joy for my towardness of reconciliation than of most prudent counsel for my further proceeding therein"-- although it seems like jane was only able to keep one promise-- “of your goodness you promise to travel to bring to a perfection” was kept, but her request to “have in remembrance her desire to attain the King's presence” after the initial visit was not met for another five months-- “the delay of the coronation will do no harm except that the coming of the Princess to Court is put off till it takes place”).

#his advice to mary being connected on a promise elizabeth would be demoted and mary would be confirmed heir by parliament... woof #there's also quite a gap between the reconciliation and mary being received at court #this has been attributed to the plague but it's like...it's not as if she went with them to dover...#chapuys attempts to save face by saying mary has not been invited to court because she won't be until jane is crowned #and then she is. before she's crowned.#i get so much secondhand embarassment reading his dispatches fr like...what DO you know #but yeah so much of this has to be read as an exercise in face-saving #i don't understand why it so seldom is #'received with EVEN more ceremony than in times past'...come tf on?#as in more so than when she was princess and had a huge household in service to her?#she did receive more servants than she had in elizabeth's residences before #but it was definitely still a huge reduction from 'past times'#also it's interesting that he never asked this of anne #it would involve recognition of her which i assume was why he wouldn't but #considering he claims she was the primary influence of her ill-treatment...wouldn't the obvious answer be to request him to favor her #in exchange for imperial gratitude?#*and most importantly; the primary influence upon henry #or even to george as he does here (the queen's brother) considering he thought george's influence on anne and the king were pretty great #also smth chapuys never attempts despite speaking with george a handful of times during anne's reign #*to request anne #it seems like he chose cromwell as the conduit to henry with very little effect #at least insofar as promoting/protecting mary's interests went
