One of my favorite metas you wrote was addressing Buck and consent. I wish the show went a little deeper into the subject. I understand though, there is only so much time.

However I laughed because I was wondering how much of Bucks extreme consent type behavior was written in and how much of that was Oliver being Oliver. I loved how he made sure to put his hands behind him. It also made the do you always sleep nude question exactly that. A inquiry into making sure she was OK, not an opportunity to point out her naked form.

With Ryan, Aisha, and Oliver though I always wonder how much they improvise because they seem so in tune with their characters that they add alot of small choices and I love that for them.

But yeah, exactly! It's very obvious that, along with Eddie, Buck is not being a creep on any level, he's just honestly trying to be as helpful as he can be in a very delicate and awkward situation. IDK how much the actors improvise, but I have no doubt that their personalities do inform the characters, whether it's through their own acting choices or, as work on the show progresses, more of who the actors are and what they've brought to their role bleeds into the writers' work. I love that for them as well! I'm positive that had he been played by another actor, Buck wouldn't be quite the human teddy bear that he is. A kinder, gentler version than who we met in 101 for sure, but not quite who Oliver shaped Buck into.

If I am being completely jaded, though, I think it really would be just the beginning. I know Buddie will be dragged out because they are the ship you know. But I am here for it all!!

Maybe something that DOES revolve more directly around Christopher and the little family they've built together? We've seen it remaining central even as both guys were with other women, but what happens if something ACTUALLY threatens it?

I also wanna keep in mind that, if we believe Kristen Reidel, then Eddie will be dating in 6b. That COULD be some sort of a panic reaction to realizing his feelings for Buck, but it didn't sound like that from how she talked about it. Then again, as you might have noticed, I don't necessarily believe everything that comes out of a showrunner's mouth. So as usual with me, it gets me back to square one, shrugging and reminding myself I just have to wait and see.

Sorry to set discourse on your doorstep, but I’m curious: How do you feel about genderbending characters? I’ve seen some people say it’s transphobic but tbh I’m not totally sure if I agree. What do you think, if you don’t mind my asking?

Genuinely don't think gender bending is transphobic and I think coming at the idea of gender bending in the most bad faith way possible is the only way u can really say it's transphobic. Gender bending characters is like....a time honored tradition among fans and it's fun to design someone with the opposite presentation in mind. Like, what stays the same? What changes? How can I keep this recognizable while still showing the character is different in some way or another? These are fun design ideas and goals and it's only if you rigidly subscribe to the idea that gender and sex are the same does that become an issue. like, I guess I can see how it can potentially be transphobic, but like? I feel like it does far more good in terms of making people wonder about gender expression and playing with it? Like, does my Big Macintosh comic count as gender bending? I took a pre-established character and designed her to be a trans woman, and I thought about what that might look like should the character go in that direction. And I've gotten tons and tons of heartwarming comments talking about how much that comic helped them! I'm a trans person, I think we should be doing more fun play with gender and shit.
