@morrotober day 3! Prompt: Monastery / Childhood

“Morro caused harm because of Sensei Wu."

How does this source support or challenge the assertion? Explain your answer.

The source supports the assertion that Morro had willingly and intentionally caused damage and hurt because Sensei Wu had taken him in all those years ago.

The source shows Young Wu training Young Morro without much thought and concern for the future. This enabled Morro to commit offences in the future.

The source depicts Sensei Wu and Morro in the old monastery of spinjitzu, on the training grounds, during the Day of the Departed, as they reminisce about their past.

They can see young Wu training Morro as Wu had a cup of tea because Morro was a ghost at this point in time and cannot make contact with liquids. That was their most prominent memory because that was what they did together almost all of the time.

Analysing the training, I can see that Wu is holding Morro at arm’s length, instead of doing more close combat with him or sparring. This isn’t an efficient training method, but the symbolism is that Wu had held Morro at arm’s length, even though all Morro had at this point was Wu’s kindness. Morro had wanted more, to prove that he was useful, to say that Wu should keep him, should let him stay, maybe become even closer, because every child would long for a parental figure.

However, Wu had kept Morro at arm’s length. It was a cold, almost business-like relationship for him. Wu should have known better than to act that way, and instead of raising a child to be a fighter, he should have taught Morro how to become a good man.

As the adult in the picture, Wu is responsible for Morro’s actions, thus, Wu is responsible for the damage caused by Morro.

The teapot inbetween them could also symbolise Wu’s unwillingness for closeness. The water in the teapot acts as a physical barrier that the ghost cannot pass through. Wu may be justified to have this layer of protection due to Morro’s actions a few months ago, but he has made no attempts to reconnect with his former pupil.

Wu still, is not reaching out a hand to his pupil to help him.

According to my contextual knowledge, had Wu not taken Morro in as a pupil, Morro would have never learnt how to fight, or about the green ninja destiny, or maybe survived or entered the cursed realm at all.

When Wu had done the kind thing to accept him as a student, he did not instil or teach important values, and when Wu had found out that Morro had the elemental power of wind, he had trained Morro mercilessly, making Morro ‘get up’ after facing off with a lot of his other students.

Of course, this was all on the baseless hope that Morro was the green ninja, a prophecy that Wu had dealt with quite recklessly.

After Morro had failed all the expectations and responsibilities Wu had thrust upon him at such a young age, Morro had left the monastery to prove that he was the Green Ninja. Yet, Wu did nothing to follow or find his pupil, letting out a child with much fighting prowess and no moral code into the world.

This is known as gross negligence, even though Morro wasn’t officially Wu’s child, but given that Wu had taken him in as at the very least a student, Wu was partly, if not fully, responsible for Morro’s death, and subsequently his decent into madness.

Evaluation of Source: The source is an accurate screenshot of what had likely happened during the Day of the Departed. The source doesn’t seem to have much bias. It seems to just ink the past and present together to show Wu and Morro’s relations.

In conclusion, Morro caused harm because of Sensei Wu’s actions a few decades ago.

@morrotober day 4: Found Family/Alternate Ninjago Timeline

Inktober: knot

I wanted to do something with the anime trope of 'red strings of fate'. The trope is that everyone has a string, or multiple strings, that lead to someone else. The subversion here is that the strings between Kai and Morro are connected via a reef knot, meaning that they hand't been connected yet and Morro had lost his fate (destiny) before meeting Kai (and so had Kai).

At first, I wanted to do something with Lloyd and Morro, But then Destinyshipping seems to be quite popular so I changed it to Kai. And then I started thinking about friendship bracelets and started to explore that idea. The wrist band is Nya's and Lloyd's on the thumb. Cole is on the ring finger (lava shipping implied hehe) and Zane is on the middle (I think cuz they're opposite they might not get along sometimes) and Jay's on the index that I never drew because perspective.

So yeah, that's my thought process.

I actually don't like this piece, the composition isn't that clear but Morro's on a roof top. I also don't like the skin colour, because it relaly doesn't look like Morro, maybe I should have went with ghost instead of a modern AU or something.
