Sir Pentious & Alastor: an underrated dynamic
Tumblr media
"Show yourself, Alastor! Come and face--! Oh, there you are. FACE MY WRATH!"
Sir Pentious has been in Hell for much longer than Alastor. That means he was there when the Radio Demon appeared, and he's been trying to overthrow Alastor for decades! We know what Alastor is capable of, and what he could do if he truly wanted Sir Pentious to stop. He obviously doesn't register Sir Pentious as a threat, but that doesn't mean he's not annoying (like when he interrupts his song in the pilot and destroys a wall in ep2). Yet in all those decades, Alastor always let him go with the equivalent of a slap on the wrist, considering what he's done to other sinners in his broadcasts.
And why is that? Why, he must find Sir Pentious very entertaining, of course! Even though he calls Sir Pentious forgettable (to rile him up), there's no way a narcissist like him doesn't LOVE being the main focus of Pentious' "evil plans", as pathetic as they are. Not only does he give him the attention he deserves (like Vox), he's a true "architect of evil" who constantly reinvents himself to try and get the upper hand on Alastor. To Alastor, Pentious is like a sillier, weaker, more immature version of Vox with close to ZERO survival instincts but twice the creativity. Even Vox, who made a whole diss track about Al, wouldn't dare speak to him the way Sir Pentious does if they were face to face.
Tumblr media
"SILENCE! Now cower! For when I've ssslain you, the almighty Vees will finally acknowledge me as their equal."
He does have some "oh shit" moments when he sees he crossed a line/is about to get Team Rocket-ed, but he still gets back up and attacks him again with all the unearned confidence of a man who has no idea how easy Alastor goes on him.
Just like Alastor, Pentious is attached to the aesthetics and technology of the time period he knew when he was alive, and still manages to innovate with those limitations. I think Alastor could respect that.
"You whores have no class! In war, the side remembered is the side with the most style!"
It's also funny that to Pentious, Alastor is the young, modern one. Some phrases Alastor uses are "young people slang" to him!
Pentious asking Alastor questions on his "modern" radio technology...
Alastor is one sarcastic bastard, and Sir Pent is one of the most naive characters in the show. He takes a lot of things way too literally (#autism?). That's just PERFECT for comedic misunderstandings between these two!
Before s1 was released there were quite a lot of ace!Pentious headcanons. I think we could still make a case for closeted ace-adjacent!Pentious in canon! Possibility even aroace!Pentious, if we interpret his crush on Cherri as compulsive heteronormativity (he loves her creative genius and is fascinated by her explosive contraptions; surely that means she's the one, right?)
Ace4Ace Alastor & Pentious would be a fun duo in my opinion. They could bond over their shared experience
On the topic of bonding... ("I have feelings for you" (Narrator voice: the feeling was friendship, but he had ever experienced it before)
Seriously, imagine Sir Pentious spending more and more time around Alastor because of the hotel, taking his sarcastic and mocking remarks literally and thinking they're becoming closer... And then being like. WAIT. Do I have feelings for him?? and trying to seduce him like he does with Cherri Bomb. The absolute shenanigans... Rizzlord Pentious strikes again.
Accidental fake dating scenario that only exists in Vox's head, where Vox, being the stalker that he is, spies in the two of them bonding and reaches all the wrong conclusions
Once Sir Pentious dies for the second time and ascends to Heaven, he could meet Alastor's mom 👀
EDIT: OH and How could I forget the Egg Boiz?? Egg Boiz babysitter!Alastor is canon and he definitely babysat them multiple times in the few months Sir Pentious spent at the hotel. Joint custody :3
AND let's not forget the important information that Frank the Egg Boy reported to Sir Pentious lol. The one Charlie made a deal with Alastor for. I can imagine Alastor considering killing the Egg Boiz/ Sir Pentious after learning Frank didn't keep quiet (Imagine Sir Pentious trying to engage in a conversation w/ Alastor and telling him what Frank told him as a joke akfkkd), spending a whole afternoon trailing after them and making plans, only to realise that the Egg Boiz say insane shit all the time and Sir Pentious was in fact NOT playing 4D chess by telling him he knew (and probably already forgot all about it)

------------------------------------------------------
Monday arrives faster than you could've imagined. With no time to spare, you’re rushing in and out of stores on Sunday, trying to find some type of business appropriate dress. You eventually cave on a yellow, sunflower floral dress with a pair of white heels, tying the outfit together with a heart necklace that your mom had gifted you when you moved out to london. With Monday morning having finally arrived, you wake up with a rush of adrenaline and excitement. 9 am on the dot, you're out of your flat and taking a stroll down to your local coffee shop and hoping Matty is doing the same. Opening the door behind you, you hear running footsteps approach you.
"Ah- shit! Stella!" you look over to your right just to see matty rushing over to you just to catch the door. you step back a bit just to embrace his arrival.
"Em, you good there, matty?" you say as you begin to giggle.
"Yeah, yeah" he mutters as he gives a slap on the shoulder trying to catch his breath.
You let him take a deep breath and console him after he returns to a normal state. "Erm- yeah, can i get an oat milk latte, please?" you say as you place your order. "Watcha want, Matty?"
You can't help but blush watching Matty order. His sweet and soft accent is like music to your ears. and don't get yourself started on his freckles. He's just everything you could've ever wished for in a man. You pay for him, and Matty flashes you a smile. The two of you spent what felt like hours talking about everything there is to talk about. From life, your cat, music, to movies, sports, everything you and Matty both enjoy.
You cherished the time the two of you got to spend together developing a friendship. He seemed to really enjoy it too. Whenever he spoke, you were so utterly captivated by his soft northern british accent. It's so light and soft yet so strong and recognizable. You remember being freshly 16 when the 1975's debut came out. You and your friends were out clubbing when chocolate played over the speakers. You were so drawn into Matty's deep accent but when you remember his old accent compared to the one he has now, it's less deep. You couldn't lie, you definitely fit into the stereotype of not knowing what Matty is saying in that song.
"Alright, well, I suppose we should head off to the office, yeah? I don't mind driving you to the office and back. s'all good." he says with a light smile. "That'd be great. Thank you so much.'' He smiles and nods in response.
Like the gentlemen he is, he opens the passenger door for you before getting himself in. You blush in response to the kind gesture. You both chat a bit in the car with the radio on, mainly talking about the song that was currently playing, but the conversation stops once you two arrive at the office. Matty helps you around the building and guides you into the meeting room. Until now, you'd never really realized how much taller he is than you. You stand at an unimpressive 5'3 and you aren't exactly sure how tall he is. It's a running joke in the 1975 fandom that Matty's incredibly short but when you look at band pictures, you can totally see it. The meeting eventually started and the entire thing felt very relaxed.
Jamie and George were really good at being able to communicate with you and you talked about the cover for the album. They were going to have Jordan, the band's main photographer, help out with any sort of album promo and covers. The most important factor, though, was changing the name of the album. You weren't exactly sure what you wanted to change it to but you would surely let Jamie know. The meeting doesn't last as long as you'd originally thought so you and Matty are back in his car in which he agreed to drop you off back at your flat after the meeting. The conversation you two were having earlier resumes. nothing less than pleasant. Once you arrive back home, Matty gives you a warm and gentle smile placing a thumb on your thigh. "Thank you so much Stells. I appreciate it."
'Stells'. that nickname just made your heart pace. You stutter out a ‘you're welcome’ and enter the lobby straight up to your flat, so grateful to have such lovely people make your dreams come true.

I saw the Arctic Monkeys live... Almost two weeks ago now (crazy) and it did in fact take me this long to recover enough to write this. So here's some thoughts:
❄️🧊🐒🐒🐒🐒🧊❄️
Well first of all - context - it was a festival. And really not only was it a festival - it was my first festival. And not only was it my first festival - it was really my first live show of a band I cared for and listened to and specifically came to see. (I'm not a babeh nor a babby - I just listen to a lot of dead & retired musicians and AM was my first chance at a live gig that I really wanted to see). So this was like... Super special of an experience to me.
more context: I stood... Many many hours in the spot I secured almost as soon as I walked onto the festival grounds. And therefore saw them from second row. Up close. And... I'd do it again in a heartbeat (but it definitely isn't for everyone and please don't take this as advice and listen to what you yourself know about your body's limits).
🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
✨Thoughts & feelings & observations✨ :
I've been fully validated in my love for TBHC & The Car.
I can now confidently say that I adore them as albums and also that they are show stealers to me personally in their live versions. They absolutely hold up live.
Listen - yes - the heavier more traditional rock albums full-on destroy live - and I definitely would've cried if I didn't get to hear the classics at my show. I jumped and screamed the lyrics and danced and played out the lyrics. But the songs I got from TBHC and TC? They HIT the most, emotionally.
Maybe it's because both of these albums are in my top 3 of the Monkeys albums in general - or maybe it's because Alex just resonates with them more currently therefore being able to emotionally invest more into them and then that coming across and affecting me. I don't know. I think it's both. And when Sculptures came around... PHEW
Which brings me to: Sculptures like absolutely destroyed me the most of the whole setlist -and I definitely wasn't expecting it.
It's not even my favorite song on The Car (though of course it is up there. And it also was the biggest WOW SHOCK for me on my first album listen). But something about his voice during that song. The emotions. The instrumentals. And the echo they had over all of it... Jeez, it was all just very intense.
Four out of Five.
Not a complete fan of the new arrangement... Because I worship TBHC in it's original form - but even so - that song still slaps in any form. And you best believe I was out there screaming all the verses like there's no tomorrow. It hurt my teeny tiny heart that this is now the lone setlist survivor off TBHC. But that just made me clutch it even harder and fully give myself to the moment. (TBHC we will avenge you!)
I think I just straight up dissociated at Do I Wanna Know.
Maybe I'm a basic bitch of a fan - but I WORSHIP that song and riff - and It was just such a symbol for me of getting to see them live. I imagined the moment he enters with his beautiful 12-string vox SO many times. And when the time came I just sort of... I didn't know what to do with myself. I sang along and tried focusing and registering it all - but it was too much; too much pressure on myself too - so my mind just seemingly floated away.
Generally the whole thing was such a hugely important event for me that I had trouble registering it as real and felt a bit "mind-floaty" through it all - but that memory is just THE BLURRIEST of them all. So you can say it's an intense experience witnessing that classic live 😂
Witnessing the whole process live made me realize just how exhausted the whole gang must be.
The night before I - of course - scoured all social media for info about their arrival and set up - and so I saw all the little info about them flying in, their bus and their equipment truck arriving, all that. Then I got a report from how the soundcheck went around noon. And since I stood 7 hours in my secured spot I also saw the entire setup process with so many roadies running around. Allll that contex kind of... Gave me a good feel for the time that goes into this. Time and work and travel - all of that for a 1,5 hour live show - and then on they go to the next. Let's please appreciate artists and understand when they do seem a little off. Touring seems like an energetic nightmare (and especially for introverts).
Speaking of roadies... I wasn't building too many expectations stage design-wise. And the EFFORT surprised me so positively.
So basically - I knew Glasto had the mirroball and all the bells and whistles. But we weren't as important of a festival. So there was no way of knowing. I truly full on expected a bare stage. For months I'd watch clips of their other shows and think "ah. Too bad we don't get the mirroball moment". I came to terms with it months in advance - and then when someone posted a blurry photo of the mirroball showing up I was in shock. I love how much this whole team cares. It isn't a simple task driving all these props around and setting them up - the ball, the ring, the lights, the curtains in the themed Car color palette. I very much wouldn't blame them for having a "light" version for festivals in particular - when the roadies have like 30-45 minutes to set everything up right after the previous act ends. But no - there's a vision and they stick to it consequently and they don't differentiate between types of shows. No compromises - 100% of what they've got. It's honestly just beautiful to me.
Alex was... So mobile.
He fully pranced around that stage in his little heeled boots (!!!) doing his little gags and knocking over microphone stands with the cord of his guitar. He made sure to cover the whole stage and acknowledge all sides of the crowd - and come back and give us all attention a few times throughout the show. And I love him for it.
Alex is completely mesmerizing.
Okay - I say that as a person who's completely in love with his mind and talent (and... the packaging... ain't bad 👀) - so I get I'm not a very reliable source. But guys... That kid is magic (I say as if he's not 9 years older than me) (he's still babygirl though) He just is. He grabs your attention with his energy and doesn't let go until you've let him out of your sight (not of your own accord). Disappears behind that curtain.
I tried checking up on the other boys through the show - Nick managed to hide at an angle that kept him pretty invisible to me, unfortunately :c. Matt was killing it - and I loved noticing how Jamie just... Sways back and forth. But listen - even when I meant to look towards them more during the show - my brain just completely didn't allow it.
(And yeah. I get that's the role of the frontman. But... Guess the thing is he just does it so well. It didn't come naturally to him - as we know. It takes a lot out of him probably each time. But the energy is just there. And he could stand all night long and just sing and I'd still be mystified).
I already fangirled internally like crazy when I saw their guitars being set up and tuned.
And then during the show - I caught myself guessing what songs they were gonna play based on the guitars Alex was picking up. And just being weirdly proud of myself.
Also... The Epiphone Coronet looks so tiny live? I don't know. But it seemed that way - and isn't a tiny guitar for a tiny kitten just the cutest thing?
I missed my moment 😪.
Which really wasn't too big of a potential moment - but between songs people would shout titles of songs they want to play - and you know. It was usually AM or maybe FWN stuff. And during one of those moments I felt an overwhelming urge to shout "Perfect Sense". You know... To show that fans are indeed also excited about the actual album this tour is about. I ended up deciding against it - and literally like two seconds later Alex picks up his acouie and announces Perfect Sense. I sensed that. I could've had Alex Turner knowing I sensed that. But alas. I ended up just enjoying it in peace 🥲.
I won't take any interaction-themed slander.
I feel like people who are used to a lot of band interactions often speak ill of Alex and think he's an ungrateful frontman. Which - well first of all is bullshit because I don't believe artists need to be saying a word - it's the music you pay for. But secondly - he may not be saying much - but the energy he exudes and the sincere way he says things... Well it says it all. I feel like you have to be there to feel that energy and understand - but to me it was palpable that he was grateful for the enthusiasm, happy to perform and generally very emotionally invested in everything he was doing.
And then he thanked us and sent kisses our way multiple times too. And called us a beautiful audience (stop it Alexander! We're blushing!)
His shennanigans!
He seemed very happy to have a runway to get onto and use for his bowling shtick (I feel like he immediately got excited seeing that stage at soundcheck probably when he realized he could use it in that way).
There were no birds around to control - but there was the weather. So he did in fact ask the skies to "turn up that wind machine" as it started blowing and made him look like a vision during Sculptures (guys, truly. Sculptures live is insane. I'll repeat it forever). (🎶 Those words don't mean a thing where I come from, but I'll sing them forever 🎶) (I'm sorry, I had to).
All the little over-the-top faces he makes to enact the lyrics are a bit too adorable and almost made my heart burst.
Like... The "wah wah" crying one at "I feel the tears are coming on"? What a geek.
(but then also... Who hurt you 👀 it definitely makes Body Paint seem even more bitter and like it's a jab at someone).
And then - if you've made it here - one last thing I'll share with you - a very important screenshot of my notes app where I quickly started scribbling my fleeting thoughts in the days following the show:
Tumblr media
And I think that's the best way to sum up what one feels seeing the Man the Legend the Genius the Poet Alexander Turner in the flesh for the very first time.

10,000 gecs Review
Hi hi hi! Very excited to start my blog back up hehe.
Anyways, for my first post I wanted to talk about my favorite release of the 2020's so far: 10,000 gecs
I don't believe in rating music with numbers because I feel like that's stupid and takes away the fun! If you're looking for that you might wanna find another blog <3. Here's what I think is important for the readers to know about this album, general thoughts, etc.
Well first I have to acknowledge: Laura and Dylan took their sweet time with this album. But, it payed off. Slated for release a calendar year before actually seeing the light of day, this album absolutely fucks. Anyone in any 100 gecs online forums (especially r/100gecs) recalls the absolute torture of waiting for this album before any clarification on what exactly happened to the promised release date (and now inside joke between fans) of early 2022. Rumors spread of issues with record production - ironic considering the CD's for both this album and its predecessor 1000 gecs, sold out within 12 hours of being available for sale while it's vinyl counterparts are still in stock. Not for long, though, if my friend group and I - who now have a combined total of six (6) copies of this album between five (5) of us - have anything to say about it.
In their third big release, the duo finds themselves shifting from their iconic sound of glitchy, computerized, autotuned hodgepodges of notes. They spend a lot more time with their guitars in this album. While I do miss the mania of songs like stupid horse or 800 db cloud, I still love how it sounds. 100 gecs is a band with a musical progression that's pretty satisfying to follow. Every one of their releases is easily followed from their last, and the Snake Eyes EP (their first release to break the form of the 10^n gecs nomenclature) serves as a great in-between to 1000 gecs and 10000 gecs. I have to say, I was a bit sad to see the synths take the back seat on this album, but: as badly as I wanted is is as happy I was I didn't get it. Like Robin and Steve.
The interesting thing about this album is that you swear you've heard it before. One Million Dollars comes to mind. 1000 gecs is unlike anything you've ever heard, but at least it doesn't sound so familiar. 10000 gecs is like the dude in your stats class who looks just like the guy you saw at the library yesterday, who you can't shake the uncanny similarity to, despite the fact that they're clearly not the same person.
The SFX soundboard, luckily, isn't eradicated entirely this time around. 757 and mememe defibrillate it especially.
But enough about what wasn't on it, I really ought to get to the good stuff (I'm already how many paragraphs in?)
Firstly, there's some great polkas on here. Frog On The Floor and I Got My Tooth Removed will bring out anyone's inner slav.
It's equally as difficult to make guitars sound so annoying as it is to make annoying sound so good; both things the duo succeeds at. My personal favorite track on the record is The Most Wanted Person In The United States. 100 gecs must have laced these basslines with something. Slap bass is a surprisingly important characteristic on this album, which I love. I mean, who doesn't love slap bass?
1000 gecs tended to show Laura and Dylan's more sensitive sides, dripping with details about Laura's love life. While it did take its time to delve into some out of character topics (like race horse bets, money, and ovens), ultimately a decent amount of the lyrics resonate with the tuning forks of love.
The new album focuses a bit more on the artists themselves. As an STL native, finding out the two members of one of my favorite bands of all time come from my hometown was fucking awesome, and it's interesting to hear about their journeys in growing up there as artists. Hollywood Baby provides a euphoric insight into the glorious escape of the negativity of the midwest. I love it here, don't get me wrong, but this place is less than friendly to those of us who are maybe more inclined to write and be sensitive.
All around though, a grunge rock album from 100 gecs is exactly what the world needed right now. After foreshadowing the pandemic, 1000 gecs becomes a little exhausting, even to those of us who have secretly (or if you're cool, not secretly) loved it from our first rendezvous with stupid horse. What we needed, after years of journaling and whipped coffee, surprisingly wasn't a renaissance (which is not a Beyoncé reference, although I should talk about Renaissance). What we need isn't a return to where we were. It's a moving forward. An acceptance of new spirits, which is exactly what this album is. A metal infused baring of the soul to anyone who's willing to listen.
Now I need to ask, what happened to what's that smell and fallen 4 Ü? 100 gecs made the decision to tour this album before releasing it, which ended with them touring songs that never ended up getting released. Very sad for those of us who spent hour scrolling through gecs on the internet, impatiently bumping our heads waiting for the day our favorite tunes would end up on streaming services.
I also deep down think that 757 might be an allusion to 745 sticky. Could just be me.

Since I finally finished making my powerpoint I decided it was time to share it -- and my way of doing that (of course) is by analyzing my hyperfixation for the last four-ish months
DPR IAN.
Some things to know:
DPR Ian was born Christian Yu on September 6th, 1990. (So rn he's 32.)
He was born and raised in Australia
He has Bipolar Type 1
Tumblr media
My Experience With Bipolar Disorder
I think that since I am trying to spread awareness about Bipolar and what it’s like — I believe that I should share my own experience. (Hence my eventual inclusion of personal journal entries.)
What’s hard about Bipolar Disorder or BD / BP -- is that there isn’t a lot of awareness about it. I honestly thought my wacky-a$$ behavior was normal, up until I saw an accurately-represented person going through a Bipolar episode — with the aftermath — in a tv show. Which equated to:
“ö!!” response.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Starting with facts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
......
Now, on towards Ian's music.
Tumblr media
I’ll only lightly touch on this for now because I know I’ll be going more thoroughly in-depth later about these metaphors/motifs; but some of the big things recurrent in DPR Ian’s music videos, song lyrics — etc., are that of Oceans/Lakes (drowning); Moon cycles and Werewolves; Storms. Other things that frequently pop up: Eyes, colors — aka their distinct and purposeful use of displaying something, isolation, religion, medication, fire/burning, guns / shooting, and finally — Suicidal Ideation.
(Yes, that last one is especially important for the topic we’ll be discussing.)
These metaphors — motifs — images / lyricism — are representative of BP. I think the best of all of them involve the moon and werewolves. But oceans / lakes and storms are also just as good. This is because these things are:
Natural — out of control of human hands
Cyclical — for oceans / lakes it’s the tides; storms — obviously by seasons.
Can leave a decent amount of destruction, no matter how beautiful it is.
[Moving on....]
Tumblr media
N E R V E S
Tumblr media
above are screenshots from Ian's song "Nerves" -- these shots in particular showcased religious imagery, which I found fascinating, based on how deeply entwined religious themes are in his videos / songs.
Ian often likens himself in the position of the devil, the one banished from heaven. There's a dichotomy in his songs, music, imagery, (etc) ; where he's an "angel" and cherished by the creator, and then (when a mood episode comes on) there's this bitterness of abandonment....though I'll expand on that later.
TLDR; Ian is always questioning "WHY" he must live in a looped cycle of intense a$$ emotional highs and lows- of having that burden of being bipolar.
This is why "And you left" -> the shot cuts away from the cross on the road.
Ian is showing (literally, through imagery / his creative vision <3), that he is at a "crossroads" 🤪.
"I still can't believe I left you alone"
Here, the cross is blurred out. So although Ian is saying this about himself, he's also mirroring it to God. "I still can't believe you left me alone." This is why the cross is blurred. Because his God's image or visage isn't "visible" or fully "clear" to him.
"It tore me down to pieces"
Here, Ian looks (visually) like he's kneeling / praying. This accompanied with the lyrics, "It tore me down to pieces" is another way he subtly shows how when God has blurred himself away, when Ian feels most abandoned in his darkness -- that which was hard, only hurts ten times more.
"Don't worry about me, cause I'm doing fine"
Interestingly, the cross is red, which represents love, but can also represent anger.
Here Ian says he's doing "fine" and now we see a cross that isn't blurred out, it's fully visible and outlined in red. Ian's not alone anymore, hence why you don't need to worry about him.
Tumblr media
(I'll expand on the list above more as we go on)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dude, Ian's interview quote fvcking SLAPS.
Especially because he perfectly described what **I** felt / what it feels like when you enter into a major depressive episode. Often there would be days where that was all I could feel --nothing. Blank. Empty.
Tumblr media
Last slide of part (1) .
So I'll go ahead and link the MV here:
youtube
I know I have used a screen recording clip of "Nerves" within these past four months when I was rapid-cycling through manic and depressive episodes like a clown juggling barrels of oil lit on fire.
So YEAH. I think it perfectly (visually) portrays what it feels and looks like when you're going through these episodes.

2nd Anniversary Event — Ignite A Noise
Que my skeleton rising from the grave just to dance to Ego because it slaps way too hard 😂
Anyway, I decided to take a break from my mind numbing grind in Granblue since I already finished Proving Grounds + I don't feel like fully grinding out for gems in Enstars yet (even though I should because I have dire needs for the upcoming puka puka)
I mean ANYWAYS Chapters 1-5 under the cut :D
-Ignite A Noise-
Thanks to Haseyama, Starless hastily reopened to celebrate its second anniversary before the full restoration of the shop. Each team received a stage script with five interpretations from one original text.
Chapter 1 Cast: Kei, Kokuyo, Rindou, Mokuren, Mizuki, MC
MC (Today they’re going to be talking about the 2nd Anniversary Performance...) Unei Good work, everyone. Today, we’ll be having an important conversation about the 2nd Anniversary performance- Haseyama Quit blabbering, Unei. Time is golden after all. Oi, Kei. You’ve got the new song, so I’ll leave the 2nd Anniversary up to you. Kokuyo Why the hell does he know about it? Haseyama I’m the owner, aren’t I? There’s nothing I don’t know about my own shop. Kei Fine. A 2nd Anniversary show from the beginning. There’s no reason to spare. Haseyama Oh, since it is the 2nd Anniversary, I’ll be laying down some rules. Even though it’s a celebration, it won’t be much different from usual. The customers should be happy when watching the show. With that in mind, here are the 3 rules. First: The shows during this period should only be about the 2nd Anniversary. However, you will all decide what to do. Rindou So we’re allowed to choose the program? Haseyama That’s right. After a bit of discussion, it was decided...Surely you can understand that, don’t you? Second: Repeated performances and cast members are prohibited. Mizuki Huh? The hell do you mean? Haseyama Don’t do the same performance twice in a row. The same goes to the cast members. Mokuren That’s a pain. Why is there such a rule? (read: WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN’T DANCE ON STAGE FOR THE WHOLE DAY?) Haseyama I’ve been receiving all of your selfish requests. Don’t keep using the same cast members, you’ll die from overworking. In other words, this is the management looking out for you brats. You better be thankful. Now, for the last one. Rule 3. The cast members who get to perform on stage will be decided by this little lady. Really simple, isn’t it? MC H-huh!? I- I get to choose? Haseyama Yes, yes. You just need to tell daddy dearest. You don’t have to worry about the teams. (Don’t call yourself my daddy get out BLEGH) It can be based on your favourite, or who seems to make the most profits. I’ll leave that decision up to you. Mokuren ...Are you alright with that, Kei? Kei If that’s the case, all we can do is bear with it. After all, this store is hers. Whoever she picks to be up on the stage will never be wrong. Mizuki Oi, MC. You know what to do, right? Pick everyone from Team B. Rindou Mizuki. Don’t pressure her. Haseyama Oi. If there’s any disagreements, take that outside. This is all I have to say. All of you just have to do it or die trying, got it? Unei And without further ado, everyone, I hope everyone is able to prepare for the 2nd Anniversary performance well! Oh, that’s right. Kei-san, when do you plan on giving Yakou-san his Team K stage outfit? (everyone in visible shock) Haseyama ...Hah? Yakou? Kokuyo Oi, Kei. The hell is he talking about? Rindou Yakou is coming back? And..he’s returning as a member of Team K? Kei …(sigh) My head’s in a daze right now... This wasn’t my doing. And speaking of K, this matter doesn’t involve the rest of you. Unei, I’ll talk to you later about the finer details. Unei Huh? Me? Why do you need to talk to me...? Yakou will be returning for the 2nd Anniversary Performance. If there isn’t 25 people, the cast members will not be enough, right? Kokuyo You know, this talk is going way too fast. Is there any idiot who would come back after leaving? Haseyama Unei. If you’re done here, go back to work. You’re not coming back here until you find out what the hell is going on. Unei H-huh!?
Chapter 2 Cast: Zakuro, Mokuren, Kokuyo, Mizuki, Kei, Rindou --A few days ago. Zakuro Oh my, oh my. All the tops of each team. I pray you forgive my impudence. Mokuren Talking pretentiously is fine. Just hurry up and get to the point. Zakuro Oya oya, such ridiculousness. The foundations for human relationships is not limited to labor, is it not? Kokuyo Sorry. I’m not good at exchanging words, so will my fists do instead? Zakuro Terrifying, as expected of Team W’s top. Even in such a place, your savagery is outstanding. However, I do not wish to have my face shape changed. Without further ado, let’s begin, shall we? This is regarding the 2nd anniversary celebration of Mr. And Mrs. Miki’s Starless. Rindou This is...a screenplay and recording? Zakuro Yes, it would be wise to hand these over to your respective teams. This is all for the 2nd anniversary. Kokuyo Hah....why the hell do I have to bother giving it to them. Mokuren I agree. Mizuki Oi. Where’s Team B’s recording? Zakuro Surely if we present the script, Heath will be ready to make one, yes? Mizuki ‘f course! It’s ‘cuz Heath is amazing after all. Kei Dostoevsky? And it seems the source for all these is “The Brothers Karamazov.” Zakuro Correct. All five screenplays were derived from the same source material. A grand play about the Karamazov clan’s feast. Different truths from different viewpoints, a commonplace theme in our world. Well then, this is all the wisdom the heavens have deigned to grace me with. The rest is up to our outstanding tops. Please guide us well. Mokuren Tch. You speak too much. Haseyama Hnn...I see.
Chapter 3 Cast: Akira, Maica, Heath Akira Hey, did you guys hear about the rules for the 2nd Anniversary? Maica Wasn’t it something like “If you perform once, take a break once,” or something? Akira Yeah, yeah. That one. Maica I’m pretty sure there were other rules too. Heath MC chooses who gets to go up the stage, and the performance will be decided by those cast members who were chosen. Maica Ah, that’s right. Akira So let’s say, I was put into a team with everyone from K, I wonder...? Maica What of it? Akira I’m from Team W after all, so my original performance should be “GOLGODA.” Maica That’s right. And I’m with Team P’s “Only seek you.” Heath B’s is “Venom.” Akira So what happens if I’m put in with the Team K members? What’ll happen to “GOLGODA”...? Heath Well, if it’s going to be a vote of majority, wouldn’t you perform Team K’s “MADNESS JOKER”? Akira Right? So I would have to sing ”MADNESS JOKER.” Maica ...But at that point, wouldn’t the other people try to read the room? Akira Are the performers going to perform “GOLGODA” even though they aren’t used to it? Maica Ah...you have a point. Akira Majority vote is scary, ain’t it? There’s power in numbers, Maica. Heath Hey, Akira. In the first place, it’s MC after all. What kind of performance will it be if there’s no singer or MC? Akira Eh? There was such a thing? Maica Well, it’s possible...in theory. Akira Eh. But...isn’t that bad? Heath Maybe it is. Maica I’ll talk to MC in a bit. She needs to make sure she includes a singer in her selection. (Your words can’t stop me I had a team of just all dancers) Akira See you later~ Hey, since it’s so important, you’ll have a word in for me, right? Maica Like hell I will.
Chapter 4 Cast: Yakou, Maica, Sinju Maica Fuu. I told MC about the singers, but I wonder if it will be okay in the meantime... ...Hn? Why are you so deep in thought, Yakou? Yakou Ah, Maica. It’s been a while since I last saw it, but the ceiling sure is huge... Maica Well, that big whale made of bones is gone after all. Sinju What’s up, you two? What are you talking about? Yakou We were just talking about the whale-less ceiling. Sinju Ah, the whale. It feels a bit lonely without that there. Maica Well, since there’s the risk that it may fall again, this is good for now. Yakou I think it’s really lonely without it. After all, you could see it even from the stage. Sinju He...ehehe. Yakou What the hell. Why are you laughing all of a sudden, that’s gross. Sinju Welcome back, Yakou! Yakou ...But I didn’t even come back. I’m just here to help. Sinju But I heard from Unei that you were going to be in Team K. Maica Huh? You’re going to be in Team K? Yakou Ah, Unei actually contacted me a while ago. He said Team K was in a pinch, and asked for my help. Maica So that’s how it is...So won’t be Ginsei returning to K and Yakou won't return to P? Yakou Probably. This is a situation with Starless, so I have no idea either. Sinju But now we can be in Starless together again. Even if the teams are different, I’m still happy. Yakou What are you talking about, Sinju. This is the most convenient for both teams after all. I won and you lost. It’ll hard to get revenge if we’re on the same team again. Sinju ...Yeah. That’s right. Next time, for sure, I’ll win! I won’t lost to Yakou again! Maica Yes, yes. And that’s as far as you two go. The first thing Sinju needs to do now is to continue cleaning. And Yakou is only an understudy, right? You don’t have the authority to start a versus. Climb up the ranks first, then we’ll have that rematch. Yakou Right. I was given another chance, so I’ll make sure to work hard in Team K. But, I’m just an ordinary performer like Kasumi. So, please adjust the shift accordingly. Sinju Yep! Once again, let’s both do our best, Yakou!
Chapter 5 Cast: Menou, Hari, Kasumi
Menou ..By the way, I just saw Yakou here earlier. Did he come back to Starless? Hari No, formally he hasn’t returned yet. While continuing to work in his day job, he’s volunteering to help perform here at Starless. Menou So he’s doing this without getting paid? Why? (Good question Yakou why the fuck-) Hari It may be a conflict with his morning job. There are many places that place a rule that prohibit them from working side jobs. Menou That’s irrational. Hari Plus, it seems he’s starting here as an understudy for Team K. Menou Heh, so he’s not back to Team P? Why though? It would have been more fun if he came back to us in Team P. Kasumi Well, Team P does have Ginsei now, so~ Here are the rest of the vegetables. Menou, weren’t you supposed to be peeling them? Menou Well, I am pretty inept after all~ By the way, how is Kasumi able to work as a salaryman while attending the shows? Kasumi Eh? What do you mean? Menou I mean, wouldn’t you want to play the center role? How would you be able to? Kasumi I’m from the mob after all~ Us mobsters have our own roles. Menou Hm, you won’t budge, will you? Hari Well, I think I understand what Menou is trying to say. Yakou is very ambitious. He won’t sit by and just idly stay as an under or 5th place. Continuing to perform at the top of the stage while working as a salaryman is no problem for him at all. Kasumi Ah, I feel a bit embarassed now that you say that. Menou Yeah. Amazing~ Hari He’ll only be suffering from here on out. He’s basically living life between a rock and a hard place from now on. Menou Really? If it were me, I’d just let go of my main job without a doubt, I think. Hari ...Is that so? Menou Since...Wait, no. I need to be peeling the vegetables right now. Hari You should at least tell me why you would, since you already started. Menou Just because I feel like it. Now, let’s get to work. We can’t open the store without finishing preparations, can’t we? Kasumi Menou, you’re peeling it way too hard.

End of Year Zuka Tag 2023 Part 2
3. Never Say Goodbye: Which taidansha did you find the hardest for you to say goodbye to this year?
Timewise, the first one has to be Kazumi Shou's taidan... she was one of hanagumi's best singers, both mature and cool on stage, and she brought something truly special by her presence alone. Her taidan role in Singing Loverbirds was perfect though and her funny and touching dynamic with Hoshikaze Madoka was imo the highlight of the show!
Tumblr media
The second one was Arisa Hitomi's, I was wishing she'd stay forever 😭 Unparalleled voice, amazing acting, and a genuinely sweet personality, it's just impossible not to love Kuracchi. She was one of those non top musumes the company allowed to shine and she truly felt like a star. To hear her sing that solo as Marie Antoinette in 1789 made me a tear up for real...
Tumblr media
4. Material Girl: Favourite piece of merch (most treasured Takarazuka thing you have bought yourself this year, OR if you didn’t buy anything this year, a piece of merch that is on your wish list)
I have very little merch dfjhv but this year was the first year I bought stills and bromides from QR! It took more than 2 months to arrive lmao but I'm still so happy to have all these high quality pics of my faves. And for christmas I treated myself to Madoka's photobook, it should hopefully be on its way now 👀
5. Mon Paris: Did you discover a new fav show that was not from this year? (This can be any fav show that you saw for the first time this year that was released before 2022)
I must have discovered a bunch of older shows but the one that stood out to me the most was Never Say Goodbye (2006). The Spanish Civil War and fascism at large are difficult topics, especially for a company like Takarazuka that doesn't have the best track record when it comes to handling these issues with care when so much revolves around making siennes look cool, no matter what they play. But NSG felt spot on for me. Without making any sienne play any fascist, it managed to portray the importance of resistance against fascism while still showing the difficulties of organising armed resistance without (too much) infighting. Also Wildhorn has never not made a banger, all the songs slap.
Tumblr media
6. Wings of the Heart: Favourite fandom memory (this could be a fun stream experience, going to the theatre with friends, all collectively freaking out about something together, anything really!)
Most probably the first (and only so far) international-friendly livestream we've had on BeyondLive for James Bond. The excitment was palpable lol and personally I was so happy to have any "official" subs at all, even if of so-so quality. They gave us some top tier memes and memories, plus the general emotions of seing Makaze Suzuho and Jun Hana taidan (my first top combi taidan!), I was happy to be a fan that day and to have this community.
7. The Final Dance (Saigo no Dansu): What was your favourite duedan of the year?
Frozen Holiday, hands down. Ayakaze Sakina and Yumeshiro Aya, and other pairs, dancing while Howl's Moving Castle's theme plays in the background, it feels magical. And with the news of saki taidanning on the next GT, it's now even more important to me.

extremely funny to me that most of this is like. yeah I'm still into the same stuff as I was last week. except I watched an entire anime don't worry about it
listening (podcasts): my usual slate of podcasts this week. still enjoying the Great Gundam Project episodes on Wing, love to hear them talk about the ways in which the ending becomes thematically incoherent because I too was uhhhh not sure how to feel about the ending of Wing
the AMCA bonus episode on their Starcruiser experience was also excellent. I'm glad they're glad they went but I think it sounds kind of miserable and like I would have hated it if hypothetically I had gone to D*sney while it was open
as usual shout out to Palisade. I'm so excited for the new Kesh princess and also I love every time we see my beloved double agent poster child Elle Evensong
also, there was a new Media Club Plus this week, and I love to hear Keith (generally disinterested in fictional romance) discover that Kurapika & Leorio are in love
listening (music): still on my Three Days Grace kick. shout out to Animal I Have Become. AMV song of all time. no AMVs to rec here because once again the lack of a Fire Emblem 3 Houses anime means there's no Dimitri AMV to that song
reading: my only reading this week was my two before-bed books, Rule of Wolves and Water Outlaws. Rule of Wolves continues to be fine I guess. today I want to complain about how this is yet another example of a fantasy world that draws from real history & has societal/governmental systems based on patrilineal inheritance and the importance of passing on your position & wealth to your biological offspring that acts like homophobia magically does not exist. there's inexplicably one (1) married lesbian couple. like. as if the author forgot to incorporate queer people into the worldbuilding and then just slapped some lesbian side characters in there without thinking about what it would be like for them in that world. got some Skyrim "you the player character can get gay married but literally no one else can" energy going on
Water Outlaws, on the other hand, continues to fucking rule. there's a politician who fucking sucks, and a lady scientist being coerced into doing unethical science-magic, and also so many women who do crime & fight with so many different cool weapons
watching: forgot to talk about the Ahsoka show last week. this is because it continues to not be a very well-made television show. at time of writing, I haven't seen the finale yet
rewatched a couple more episodes of Hunter x Hunter to keep up with Media Club Plus. really solidifying my Kurapika bias this time around <3
and now for the main thing I watched this week, the entirety of Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 (for full disclosure I had previously watched the first 11ish episodes last summer before getting distracted by LoGH, and then restarted it last week to watch from the beginning with my roommate). truly it is a fucking delight to watch something that's had so much influence on so many other stories that I'm into and find out that it's also really enjoyable on its own merits as well as being extremely cool to find out where so many genre staples come from. I love the weird synth beeps in the soundtrack, I love when the animation gets super stylized and you can see the pencil shading, I love the gorgeous painted backgrounds. I was already starting to become a Cares About Mobile Suit Designs guy after GWitch/getting into gunpla but now I fully am that kind of guy because there are some incredibly fun designs in there (shout out to the Mad Angler, the coolest fucked up whale submarine I've seen in my life). I love the White Base crew and I love all the bits about how they're being exploited by the military even though they're traumatized teenagers being forced into perpetuating the horrors of war. I love when characters in Gundam just straight-up say the themes of Gundam.
ok now that I'm done gushing. I do have mixed feelings about the last ten or so episodes. (I know the pacing gets a bit wonky because the show got cancelled, that's not what I'm talking about) the thing is, is that I really want to like the Newtype stuff. I think it fucking rules that Amuro is neurodivergent in a way that's seen as useful/profitable and therefore the military is exploiting him even harder (it sucks for Amuro obviously but like, it rules for me, the guy who likes to explore that sort of theme). however. I don't think it's necessarily a great look to have some people start to develop special abilities that make them far more powerful than ordinary humans & refer to them as more advanced/the next step for humanity in the same story where the antagonists are fascists who repeatedly invoke Nietzschean ubermensch rhetoric like. it's kind of the flipside of how oppression allegories are so often deeply flawed because they give the prejudice a basis in the objective truths of the world (legitimizing the justification for the oppression by making the oppressed group dangerous in some way, i.e. the fire powers in Promare). here it's kind of a reverse of that, in that the Newtypes are framed as superhuman rather than subhuman, but that lines up with the fascist rhetoric and makes it based in the factual reality of the worldbuilding in a way that I personally am not super comfortable with. anyway.
like I am gonna watch more UC so I'm curious to see where any of this goes and I'm sure my analysis will develop as I see more but. my initial reaction is. hmm don't love that
playing: continuing to play Ace Attorney 5. 5-4 is still fun so far! however I am a little disappointed that I only got to play as Apollo for such a short time. that's my boy and I miss him already :(
making: no pictures this week but we made chicken florentine from this recipe (with added mushrooms). sorry for being basic but butter/garlic/herbs/white wine is a good flavor combo that makes your kitchen smell very good
drinking: for once something slightly less blatantly seasonal, Pumphouse's Crafty Radler (blood orange & peach flavor). which fucks. often I find peach-flavored drinks don't have enough peach because peach is kind of a more delicate flavor. this nailed it, the peach and the blood orange both come through really nicely
Tumblr media
in non-alcoholic drinks, shout out to mulled cider and also mulling spices in general. godtier spice combination
writing: most of my writing was for a zine fic so I can't talk about it yet. also I've been editing t4t yurivain but uhhhh less than I meant to because I can't edit and watch anime at the same time

The more I see of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the less interested I become. This is the first time I have ever felt that way about a mainline Pokemon title.
These are just my honest thoughts, so if you don't feel the same way, that is great! I'm glad that you are excited for it!
Like many others, I have dreamed of an open-world Pokemon game for as long as that style of game has existed, but it seems to me like TPCi has possibly been focusing on the wrong things this time around?
Many of the new Pokemon that have leaked... Aren't great. The designs are all over the place imho and for every great one, there are easily 3-5 that are pretty awful looking. Is this how people felt about Gen 5? (I actually love the Gen 5 Pokemon lolol)
The open world aspect has to be amazing for how terrible the Pokemon are. I feel like this gen's gimmick is yet another play on Digivolution and the raids don't really sound any better than SwSh.
The fact that TPCi/Gamefreak didn't set the gyms to scale is incredibly lazy. The fact that you can do them in any order is effectively cancelled out by the lack of effort put into this aspect. I honestly don't know much about game design (I do know that Gamefreak isn't great at it reading posts from people who have analyzed prior mainline games' code though), but if they didn't want to create code to auto-scale the leaders, they could have at least formulated 8 different set teams for each gym leader that just automatically changes based on the Pokemon levels of the last gym you defeated. (For example, they could create teams in ranges. So for the first gym the levels could be 5-10 then the next one you visit would swap out for the team that has levels 10-15, the next would swap to the team with levels 15-20, etc.) And before anyone says that is an awful lot of work... Not really? They would just have to create 64 teams (8 each for 8 gym leaders). Pokemon is the most successful franchise in history. They could afford to do this.
I admit that I wasn't one of the people worried about Dexit when SwSh launched. It honestly didn't bother me and I gave them the benefit of the doubt because it was such a jump in the overall look and feel of the game. Now that SwSh has been out for three years, I'm kinda pissed that Scarlet and Violet are launching with fewer returning Pokemon than SwSh (290-ish vs 320-ish) at launch. My favorite Pokemon line isn't returning this time around and according to leaks, I honestly don't really care for large swathes of the returning roster. Many of this game's returning Pokemon are ones that have been left out of prior Switch releases. This means that if they can import models from other Switch Pokemon games, they could easily bring them all back (which I know they won't because they want that Pokemon Home $$$).
The just-barelu-confirmed future/past forms sound confusing and not well thought out, the addition of TM creation and breaking is annoying, and there is still some basic info we just don't know.
And then there is the Ed Sh33ran of it all. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I cannot stand that guy and from what I've seen, nobody else really can either? I have seen zero positive reactions about his song being included. I hope that someone will release a patch that removes it from the game. Maybe it's misophonia, maybe it's the fact that I just can't stand the sound of his voice, but what a slap in the face it was to include him on the in-game soundtrack (to be fair most of the artists TPCi partnered with for that album they released were mostly ones I can't stand lol).
Anyways, I guess the positive aspects are the fact that it is open world and also that the character customization is more advanced than last time (here's hoping clothing isn't gender locked, which it was in SwSh - I haven't seen that discussed anywhere yet).
As of right now though, as pretty much a lifelong Pokemon fan, this game seems very mid at best and the initial (official) reactions I've seen are from people trying way too hard/phoning it in. I also have concerns about how well the game will play at launch because the version that is packaged on physical carts had some game breaking bugs as told by leakers and people who were beta-testing the games who have previously been right about so many things. I'm sure there will be a day one patch to fix some of the issues, but there were some pretty bad ones that the leakers said Gamefreak wasn't confident they would be able to patch in time for day one.
At the moment, and I hate to say this because this is a game I, like many others, have been looking forward to for a very long time, but I am not planning to get it at launch. It just seems so messy and rushed and half-baked. Hopefully it will improve once the game comes out and patches are issued and hopefully, as with SwSh they will add more Pokemon back, but currently I'm not exactly hopeful given how sloppy the game feels.

Leon I haven't had friends who're super in to pokemon before, but I want to play in the Rockets Underground you're setting up in the shitpit. I've played through a few of the games before but not much outside of that, what would you recommend reading/watching/playing to get a better understanding?
OH MAN Dig are you ready for the Team Rocket Primer?
Games
Kanto - FireRed/LeafGreen has the most Team Rocket content, including a postgame encounter that leads directly into Gen II. If you don't want to deal with that, though, Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee is super fun too!
Johto - HeartGold/SoulSilver is the king here. It fleshes out the Rocket admins more. There was also a special cutscene that you could only experience if you had an event celebi that is important to watch.
Anime
Pokemon the First Movie - This movie fucking slaps, it's very important to the Pokemon canon. IMO the quintessential watchable Pokemon experience.
Pokemon Generations - This whole miniseries is on YouTube and is a game-accurate series. For maximum Team Rocket content, you'll want to watch The Chase, Lake of Rage, and The Legacy.
Pokemon Origins - This is a four-part miniseries about Red's journey. Episodes 3 and 4 are maximum Team Rocket, but episode 1 is great just because it includes the most traumatizing pokemon battle scene in canon. You can find it on Hulu or iTunes I think.
PokeAni - The anime canon (which is the same canon as the movie) is VERY different from the games canon, and Team Rocket's tone is totally silly. But two good episodes are 015 (Battle Aboard the St. Anne) and HS12 ("Training Daze"). Later seasons of the anime introduce more upper-level Rockets like Matori, but I really haven't watched a lot of it and couldn't give you episode recs.
Manga
Pokemon Special - This manga series spans every generation of Pokemon, and it's VERY good. Satoshi Tajiri once said that it's the media that matches the Pokemon world in his head. The Red/Blue/Yellow series is a must. The Gold/Silver/Crystal arc is great too, but goes WAY off the rails. The other Team Rocket arcs are the FireRed/LeafGreen arc (my favorite) and the HeartGold/SoulSilver arc.
There's some other manga too with Rocket content, but they're harder to find and it's been a while since I've read them, and they're also super fringe.
Musicals
I just like to remind people that Pokemon Live! the Musical exists. Giovanni is played by Darren Dunstan. And James is played by Andrew fucking Rannels. A lot of the songs are actually really fun, but the best one for the Rocket Primer is It Will All Be Mine.

thanks @ashen-crest !!
my words are music, echo, ruffle, wrinkle
music (Dragonsong draft 1)
Enya’s voice twined into the song, loud and clear from her position on Isi’s shoulders. A chill ran down Isi’s spine and spread over her whole body. Enya’s song was equal parts haunting and sweet, and entirely unlike anything else Isi knew. Even though she’d heard it before, it was… indescribable.
The air seemed to crackle. Joy bubbled up inside her chest. The music seemed to find a place inside her she hadn’t known was empty until today, flowing in and filling it up to overflowing. She tipped her head back and grinned as she hummed, letting the song wash over her.
echo (Hurricane draft 3) (gotta have at least one bar fight in this book, and bonus points if it’s about women supporting women)
The man that had started all this was beginning to rise. Aella lunged forward off the chair just as a shout of “HEY!” echoed through the room. She tried to stop, but she was too slow to halt her own momentum. All she could do was twist so she didn’t land on the remains of the bottle she held. She hit the floor hard, but rolled and bounced back up to her feet again.
Even the most drunken of participants had stopped in their tracks. The only further movement was one man collapsing across a table, loud in the sudden silence, but he stayed where he’d fallen.
“I’ll have no fighting in ‘ere, thank you very much,” said the barkeep, dropping his cupped hands. He stared suspiciously at the cluster of partially-armed women. “You’re that hurricane lot, aren’t you? I’ll thank you not to start fights in here if you wanna keep coming back.”
“Tell your customers not to harass your serving-girls, then,” shot back Elizabeth.
ruffle (Hurricane draft 3) (dice scene my beloved)
The dice clattered on the deck. Another excellent roll for Theo. “I’m not cheating, I promise.” He adopted a snooty expression and finished, “I’m not a pirate.”
Aella glared at him and he dissolved into laughter. She threw a die at him, her own expression faltering. He ducked, snatched up another, and tossed it back. She had to fall over sideways to avoid it. Her breath came in sharp pants between giggles, and it took her several tries to regulate it.
“You’re suggesting that I’m cheating,” she said, once she’d wiped the tears from her eyes. “You’d think I’d be winning, then.”
“Maybe you just have terrible luck.”
Getting to know Theo seemed like a sign of good luck to her, but she kept that thought to herself. The wind ruffled his hair and a strand tickled his cheek. He huffed and tucked it behind his ear, then reached forwards. She tried to slap his hands away, but they’d already closed over the dice.
wrinkle (Dragonsong draft 1) (the important detail here comes later in the scene, which is that Jasper once visited Henry via sewers while Henry was working)
“The problem is getting into the castle,” said Isi. “Without being noticed, that is.”
“Sewers?”
Sierra wrinkled her nose. “Mm-mm.”
“Let him speak,” said Isi, prodding one of Sierra’s upturned feet.
Another faint smile touched Jasper’s face. “I only know a little about them, but I know a former castle knight who might be able to help us.”
“A friend of yours?” said Isi.
Jasper’s smile broadened to a full grin, wider than Isi had ever seen. The expression made him look ten years younger all at once. “My husband.”

What are your top 10 K-pop songs of 2022 so far?
Damn, someone's a mind reader! I actually wanted to this on my own accord, but now I can just use this ask to tell you my Top 10 K-pop Songs of 2022... so far.
10. Still Life by BIGBANG
I was superbly hyped, because this was my first BIGBANG comeback ever since I became a k-pop fan. I really enjoy this song, although it never found it's way into the songs I listen to on repeat. It also suffers from another song, but more to that later. All in all, good song.
09. ESPER by Eunbi
The music video and outfits were already hype/hot af, but the actual song is really enjoyable and I found myself jamming hard to it. It's a blast during car rides, which is an important "stat" for me. It's also easily better (imo) than her other releases, which is saddening cuz it got not that much attention.
08. Can't Control Myself by Taeyeon
Fantastic mv, exceptional song, a beginning of the year gem! Taeyeon delivers with a song that I couldn't get enough of months ago and even now, it's just soooo good! While everyone was talking about INVU, I was still totally engaged in this beauty. Love it!
07. WILDSIDE by Red Velvet
No cap, this is one of my Top 3 favorite Red Velvet Songs, next to Bad Boy and Psycho. But Smite, it's japanese I was really surprised that it was actually great and interesting, because I'm not that high on RV TTs it's not k-pop, cmon! Most of the outfits were awesome as well and when you listen to it on full power... DAYUM
06. Everyday by PSY
I know that you don't know this song. So listen to it! For me it's nostalgia and freedom combined, a great feeling that makes me want to travel back in time and be at one of those water festivals... sigh
05. TOMBOY by (G)I-DLE
I saw this song live. It's f------ awesome, and I couldn't care less about all the hate. From my second listen till now, my opinion has stayed the same: TOMBOY perfectly fits in Idle's discography in terms of my enjoyment. Fantastic song!
04. Blessed-Cursed by ENHYPEN
I saw this song live as well. It slaps hard from the moment it starts, and continues to stay in my head till now. Easily fitting into an on-repeat playlist and I never regret clicking on it. ENHYPEN really being very good but getting a lot of hate, huh?
03. O by VERIVERY
Yeah. I laughed when I first read that title. And then I listened to the song. And again, and again, and again. This song is enticing, it's on loop. I love the calm vibe, the hook gives me a calming chill (does that even make sense?). The MV is also awesome, reminds me of I NEED U by BTS. This will probably remain my favorite VERIVERY Song ever, they randomly struck gold in my heart lol
02. JIKJIN by Treasure
If it weren't for No. 1, this would be the car song of the year. Driving around at any time with this on half to full power feels incredible. Treasure came back strong with this one, and I'll pay closer attention to them now. Randomly, YG can still have something good happen to them, huh?
But tbh, No. 1 is so far ahead, it ain't even a competition.
01. LOVE DIVE by IVE
I loved ELEVEN and after my first listen, I though LOVE DIVE was not as good. Boy, was I mistaken! If not for some absurd miracle, LOVE DIVE will easily be my SOTY. It makes me feel beyond everything. The anti-drop, although expectable, is great, the second part of the hook god-like, the dance enchanting, Yujin is STUNNING; GORGEOUS AHHHHH. I will even say this: It is one of my Top 10 favorite K-pop songs ever right now!

@toasthaste tagged me for a "put your playlist on shuffle and post the first 10 songs that pop out" thing, so!
(I'm using my "liked songs" playlist on Spotify.)
1: High on Life (by Afterklaps)
I had to actually double check I shuffled, because this is in the most recent like, ten songs I've liked. Also, it fucking slaps I love it so much. I've listened to it on repeat for like, hours, and I'm still not tired of it. (This is very rare, normally I play songs until I hate them.)
2: Killer in the Mirror (by Set It Off)
Set It Off! I'm glad they are here, they are probably my favorite band like, by the numbers. I've listened to their entire discography and liked half of it. (They're like, angry white boy punk rock, but not quite as misogynistic as most of that genre feels.) This song in particular reminds me of taking long walks through this park near one of my old apartments, because I did that a lot while I was in my listening-to-set-it-off phase.
I still sometimes seek out Set It Off and listen to their songs! I have not totally played them out, which is cool.
3: This Ain't Nothing (by Craig Morgan)
Country Music! This is an important part of my, like, history or whatever. I grew up listening to country music, so it will permanently have a soft spot in my art even though a lot of it is Big Yikes. This song is Little Yikes. I still like it! I had a big country kick last year where I liked a whole bunch of country songs from the nineties and early aughts that lasted about two weeks (a good two weeks though!) Anyways that was before I transitioned most of country music feels worse because i know the singers would hate me now anyways!
4: NONSTOP (by OH MY GIRL)
K-pop! I love k-pop! There is respectable k-pop, and then there's horny pandering k-pop. This is horny pandering k-pop. Not maximally so (thank god I didn't get stuck with any EXID songs), but still pretty pandery! Anyways I listened to this song... NONSTOP (heh, but actually). I really like it.
I got into k-pop when I was learning Korean, and it stuck because it is objectively Peak Pop.
5: Whiskey Lullaby (feat Allison Krauss) (by Brad Paisley)
It's the Country Suicide Song! It's about suicide! It was very popular when I was in high school! It's also very good! Probably don't listen to it if you are troubled by suicidal ideation!
It contains the line "So he a bottle to his head, and pulled the trigger", which is a line that has lived rent free in my head for the last like fifteen years.
(Also yes, that is the Accidental Racist guy. This other stuff is better than that.)
6: 東京IMAGINE (by Carat) (Read "Tokyo IMAGINE")
J-pop! I have listened to a lot of J-pop because when I immerse myself in Japanese I also try and listen to lots of Japanese music. Tragically, I generally don't like Japanese music as much as I like English or Korean music. It sucks, and I am very mad about it. My life is very hard.
This song slaps, though. I found Carat fairly recently, and I love them a lot.
7: Maybe You're the Problem (by Ava Max)
Ava Max! I found her in the last year and I love her music so much. It is very Angry Heterosexual Girl Power which is sometimes a surprise to me because I sometimes forget straight women exist. Her songs rock, though. Probably the first genuinely excellent Spotify Radio I've ever had was based on an Ava Max song, where I got more Ava Max songs and a whole bunch of other pop artists with similar sounds.
8: Empire (by Beth Crowley)
I have nothing in particular to say about this song. I recognized the name, but didn't actually remember what it sounds like. I'm listening to it now, though, and I remember it and it slaps. I dig it.
9: Tic Tic Toc (by T-ARA)
T-ARA! One of my first favorite k-pop bands! I found T-ARA through the Japanese covers of their own songs when I was doing japanese immersion way back when. I loved those songs so much, I listened to them so much like... way back in sophomore year of college. I still love them, but not quite as much as I loved them then. This is not my favorite of their songs.
Also I hear there was some pretty horrible in-group bullying that went on in that group which makes me vaguely uncomfortable when I listen to them.
10: Get the F*ck out of Here (by Kobra and The Lotus)
I legit didn't recognize this song name, but I recognized the first couple bars when I played it. It slaps, but I have no particular feelings about it. It is metal, though! That is good! I like metal a lot, and it's important that it's represented here. Alas, I wish this was Battle Beast, my Favorite Metal Band. Or, alternatively, Smash into Pieces, the most prolific band in all of history which I mostly like.
I'm not going to tag people because I'm a Coward! But you should also do this, and then lie and say I told you to do it! Interact with me! Shower me in attention!

@sunny-lie-melody tagged me to talk about about my fav musicians/bands. Thank you, I will try to keep it as short as possible xD
Itchy
I don’t really know why I enjoy the music so much, but sometimes bands just click on first listen? I guess it’s the catchy guitar riffs and very sort of early 2000s pop punk vibes I really enjoy. Also they have done a lot of great lyric work especially on the new german albums. That being said I think the most important part is that all of them are really very sweet and kind people (and also a bit crazy?). I don’t think any other band I know has so much fan interaction. Also this band is the reason for so many very good friendships. The concerts really just always feel like a family meeting. <3
Donots
Ok this one might be down to my specific obsession at the moment. Went to the concert with my best friend two weeks ago and it really was a blast. Still one of the best live bands I know. I especially enjoy their old english stuff because it feels very nostalgic and upbeat. But same as with Itchy I also do appreciate the lyrics on the newer albums. Also Ingo makes the worst dad jokes ever. (That being said I’m in the Donots mindspace right now and I think most of it is Charlie’s fault anyway?)
Die Ärzte
Oh well here we go. As you might notice I’m a bit into the cult of weird german punk bands? I think once you know one of them you get to know all of them. Die Ärzte and I have a much longer history though. They’re my parents favourite band and it was basically all we listened to when I was younger. It’s still a very wild experience to listen to one of their songs and be like ‘hey where do I know this from I never listened to this before?’ (yes they have a loot of songs). And I feel like I am reapeating myself but truly they have the best fucking lyrics you will ever listen to and nothing can cheer me up like a random Ärzte song that contains only bullshit. They’re the masters of bullshit inside and outside of songs.
My chemical romance
I used to get really sad about the fact that I didn’t get into mcr before their breakup. Now after finally seeing them live this year I feel a lot better about it. It’s probably the band my sister and I share the most interest in. I don’t think I even have to say a lot about it. Yall know why they’re amazing. Just great music and so much sadness. And Gerard’s gender of course. Also shoutout to the random guy that hugged me while we were both crying during famous last words.
Green Day
Working myself up to probably the most important band in my life. I might not listen to them as much as I did, but still they somehow find their way in my top five every wrapped. It feels really cliché to say it, but they got me through some real shit when I was younger and I thinks that’s why I still feel so strongly about them. Also their music just really slaps, heavy guitars, so much variation and classics. I have to admit lyrics are not always the strong point here, but I can overlook that. That being said please go listen to warning. It is so underrated my favourite album of all time and I could write whole essays just about why. Also Billie bicon Armstrong was the reason I figured out I was queer so yeah thanks for that.
Feel free to ramble about your favorite bands as well :)
