Phalaenopsis (Moth orchid)
Worldwide, orchid sales top $300 million dollars and over 75% of them are moth orchids, the flowers may last two to three months after which moth orchids will need to conserve energy for further leaf, bud, and root development. If well taken care of, a moth orchid will flower two or three times a year and can live over twenty years. Moth orchids thrive in the artificial temperature and humidity environments created in modern homes. Like most people, we keep ours in the bedroom and this is what I woke up to this morning.
Although moth orchids don’t like too much sunshine they are otherwise easy care. They inform you of their lighting needs by the color of their leaves. If the leaves are dark green, they’re not getting enough light. If the leaves have brown spots, they’re getting too much direct sun. However, if the leaves are grass green, then the lighting conditions are perfect. Let’s call it the ‘Goldilocks effect’.

The moth orchid (Phalaenopsis sp.) is what comes to mind when most people think of an “orchid”. This genus has many different species that have been hybridised to produce a myriad of different colours and patterns. The genus comes from Southeast Asia and Australia, where it naturally grows as an “epiphyte” on the branches of trees.

Note
Your character has struggled in vain. They CANNOT get the jar they want open. What do they do?
Eh, we'll go through this for Minthe and all of her Shards.
Minthe would pout and get one of her S/O's to open it for her. Hades would comment on how simple of a task it is, Ariadne would tackle it with gusto, and Daedalus would pull out some complicated dealamajig to get it open.
Lamiales would whisper that they can't to their friend Caelo, who would then try to do it for them.
Luckless would smile and chuckle at the fact she couldn't get it open, then ask a friend for help.
Miranada would plot and scheme to get the particular jar manufacturer killed, if only to soothe her bruised ego.
Moth Orchid would probably end up smashing the jar if the contents would survive, likely to the dismay of Ambrose.
Aoife would pout at Emet-Selch if he was around to pout to, otherwise she'd just get some other food.
Rowan would suffer in silence and struggle with the jar until someone noticed that she needs help.
Thanks for the ask!

Phalaenopsis (moth orchid)
During a mid-1750s voyage to China, Swedish naturalist Peter Osbeck is said to have inadvertently given Phalaenopsis orchids their common name, “moth orchid,” when he peered through his field glasses during a stop in Java and mistook a large cluster of Phalaenopsis orchids for a flurry of moths.
Moth orchids do not offer nectar as a reward for pollinating insects, rather they practice ‘sexual deception’. They lure unsuspecting male insects with synthetic female pheromones and they mimic the appearance of the female to complete the ruse. Moth orchids are also very picky about their ‘lovers’ and they often develop this relationship with just a single species of pollinator.
There are about seventy species of moth orchid and many hybrid varieties have been developed. This particular specimen is growing in our bedroom and is about three years old. It’s easy to care for and has a very long blooming period and these characteristics probably explain why 75% of all orchids sold are moth orchids.
