Today's Beast is a Bee Pupper! I've wanted to do one since I started moth puppers, can't leave my bees out! This one is doing a blep, which if you did not know, bees really do have a little pink tongue they use to lap up food. It's adorable.

If you'd like a beast, I currently have two bee pendants in stock. If you ever see me at a convention or art show, know I will always have bees. It is law.

Meet Keraithiel Arkenaghymn'nes

he is remarkably unphotogenic but that's fine

(...inspired by the Weird Elf post, but like. I don't think he's actually turned out that weird, honestly, and the more I write him the more normal he feels to me lol)

Kerai is old. He reckons that he's around 480, maybe older, he's not sure. As a star elf, he spent a lot of time in the astral realms which does a lot to wreck one's perception of time. After coming to Toril and settling in Evermeet, he came across a pack of Lythari and fell in love; with the pack, with the freedom, and with a boy. He underwent the bonding ritual with his partner, and joined their pack. His skills as a ranger were valuable, and he was embraced fully.

Eventually, his partner died (was killed? hmm) and Kerai decided it was time to explore outside of Evermeet. He took up bounty hunting and had just started investigating a particularly dangerous shadow druid grove when he was snatched up by the nautiloid.

Prior to coming to Toril, he spent all his time studying. Nothing in particular but Anything and Everything he could, even taking a brief warlock pact (that's the reason for the black eyes) to learn as much as possible.

All he gave of himself in the pact was service and his silver eyes. All his patron ever asked for "in service" was sex and stories and when honest, he feels like he didn't give up enough for the knowledge or skills he gained.

Personality wise he's cold, but if he decides you are at all worth his time, he's very fucking affectionate and goofy. His mate said turning him brought all his warmth to the surface. Without his mate, well, that warmth certainly began to fade.

Kerai frequently thinks he's been speaking out loud when he hasn't, sometimes stops talking mid sentence and doesn't continue for a full ten minutes. He has a habit of spacing out while looking at people, asking questions that are entirely too personal, and knowing things there's no reason he should about folks he's just met. He either talks far too slowly or far too fast, never raises his voice, but frequently will speak too quietly for humans to comfortably hear. He'd much rather be with animals then people.

When it comes to his design, I was basing him slightly on a very Astarion coded stuffed moth friend I have. I wanted abnormally large ears and "kinda pointy" to be a theme with him, since he's not only some super heckin' erudite star elf but because he is also, to me anyway, A Pupper. He looks young because, again, Astral realms.

Pokemon of the Week! #841: Flapple!

Welcome, nerds, to Pokémon of the Week!

Where I, Sesh, generate a random Pokémon to highlight each week!

Last week, we highlighted the OG water pupper good boi Dewgong. That post can be found down below:

This week, we are highlighting a...very unique Pokémon. An adorable, yet powerful, apple-based Dragon-type, Flapple!

I mean, he's a flappin' apple! FLAPPLE!

HE'S A FLAPPIN' DAD JOKE, GUYS!

So let's dive in!

~ORIGINS~

Flapple debuted in 2019's Sword & Shield versions for the Nintendo Switch. Thus far, these are the only games Flapple has appeared in.

Besides a handful of Mega Evolutions (as far as I know), Flapple and it's other evolutions are the only Pokémon dual-typed at Dragon and Grass.

I feel like Flapple is overlooked quite a bit. I mean, Sword & Shield has another dragon type that kind of overshadows our appley friend here.

And it's Ghost and Dragon type.

But this is a Flapple highlight post, not a Dragapult post...

Flapple hasn't had much media attention in the anime, either, which might contribute to it taking a back seat to Dragauplt.

BUT DRAGAPULT DOESN'T HAVE A GIGANTAMAX FORM

For those out of the know, Dynamax and Gigantamax are gimmicks from Sword & Shield that allow Pokémon to grow to massive sizes for 3 turns in certain locations, changing their moves into HUGE DEATH MOVES THAT SWALLOW ENEMY POKEMON WHOLE.

Dynamax just increases size, but some Pokémon have Gigantamax forms, which increase size and change their appearance as well.

So Flapple appears to turn into a massive, gooey apple worm when it Gigantamaxes. Go figure. It's divergent evolution, Appletun, shares this G-Max form with Flapple, which is unique.

Which segues quite nicely into my next point...

Clearly, Flapple is inspired by worms that burrow into apples to feed on their cores. Geometer moth larvae in particular, according to Bulbapedia.

Why geometer moths? Well, according to the Pokedex in Sword version, Flapple keeps "an acid capable of causing chemical burns" in its cheeks. Geometer moth larvae feed on apple cores to ingest a chemical compound called 'amygdalin', which releases CYANIDE into the body when digested.

The fact it's a dragon may be a pun on the old English way of referring to dragons as "wyrms".

So...yeah. A flappin' apple wyrm.

Flapple may also be inspired by the tale of Ladon, a mythical Greek dragon that guards golden apples in the garden of the Hesperides, nymphs that supposedly controlled the sunsets. Below is a statue of Hercules fighting it:

In a more Biblical idea, Flapple may also be inspired by Satan, in the form of a serpent, persuading Eve to eat the forbidden fruit in the book of Genesis. That might be a bit of a stretch, but it still works.

This next idea of it's inspiration, though, is freakin' metal.

Flapple's signature move, Grav Apple (which causes giant apples of draconic death to fall on your opponent), may imply an inspiration from the discovery of gravity by Sir Isaac Newton in England when an apple supposedly fell on his head. As Galar is based on England, that isn't too much of a stretch at all.

SO MUCH FLAPPIN' APPLE-BASED LORE TO EXPLORE

One more fun apple fact for ya'll...

When it's in it's G-Max form, the Shield Pokedex entry states that when it stretches out it's neck, "the strong aroma of its nectar pours out. The scent is so sickeningly sweet that one whiff makes other Pokémon faint."

MOTHER OF

This flappin' dragon wants to make you faint with it's honey-smellin' neck farts.

Anyway...

~DESIGN~

Here's Flapple's official artwork:

Quoted from Flapple's biology section on Bulbapedia:

"Flapple is a green, worm-like dragon Pokémon with a light green underside and yellow eyes. It uses parts of an apple to form its body. The top part of the apple sits on the top of its head, with a single horn sticking out; the bottom of the apple is attached to its tail; and the sides are attached to its limbs, which have three-clawed hands, allowing them to act as wings.

Its cheeks store acid strong enough to induce chemical burns. It can attack by spitting this acid at its targets. It is also able to disguise itself as an apple by folding its wings."

Next, the biology section on it's G-Max form:

"When exposed to Gigantamax energy, Flapple changes into the shape of a giant apple with a green dragon-like Pokémon inside. Its leaf-like eyestalks stand up straight and it has the top of the apple on its head with yellow carvings on the apple resembling nostrils. Its tail is elongated and wraps around the base of the apple. The Pokémon has rounded cheeks and hangs its mouth open letting a red tongue hang out of its mouth. Three red clouds float around the neck.

The sweet nectar that covers its body increases in thickness, allowing it to absorb more damage than normal. It can shoot out nectar, enough to be able drown its opponents in the blast of nectar. Flapple can produce significantly sweeter nectar in Gigantamax form. An intensely sweet aroma of nectar pours out when it stretches its neck, and this aroma is so sweet it can cause other Pokémon to faint by merely taking a sniff of the scent."

~ADVANTAGES~

Flapple is best fielded type-wise against Water-types, as it's grass typing makes for a huge advantage against them.

Flapple is highly resistant against Ground and Electric-types as well.

Flapple has an exceptionally high base Attack stat at 110. Teach it physical attacks that hit hard. It's Special Attack state is not that far behind at 95.

Your Flapple may have the signature ability "Ripen". If so, this doubles the effect of berries used on it in battle.

If your Flapple has the "Gluttony" ability, HP-restoring berries will take effect at 50% HP rather than 25% HP.

Further making Flapple a really heavy-hitter, if your Flapple has the hidden ability "Hustle", upon entering battle, your Flapple's Attack state will automatically skyrocket by 50%.

It's G-Max form HITS EVEN HARDER.

~DISADVANTAGES~

Dragon-types hate Ice-types normally. But DO NOT field Flapple against Ice-types AT ALL. It's added Grass-typing makes it QUADRUPPLY WEAK to Ice.

Like other Dragons, it is weak to other Dragon moves, as well as Ice.

It's Grass-typing makes this Dragon-type weak to more things than normal Dragon-types. Be cautious when fielding against Flying, Poison, and Bug-types.

It's kind of a glass cannon. It's lowest base state is Special Defense, and can't take hard hits very well.

Going back to the "Hustle" hidden ability; though your Attack skyrockets 50%, the accuracy of your physical moves goes down by 20%. Make sure to use moves with high base Accuracy if your Flapple has "Hustle", or you'll be missing your target a lot.

Flapple is capable of learning the hard-hitting move "Heavy Slam". However, it is the lightest Pokémon capable of doing so. As a result, the damage it deals out using "Heavy Slam" is actually quite low. I wouldn't recommend teaching it "Heavy Slam."

~HOW TO OBTAIN~

As stated earlier, the only games Flapple are obtainable in as of the writing of this post are the Sword & Shield versions, where it debuted.

Catch it's base form, Applin, and evolve it. Applin can be found it quite a bit of locations; Route 5, and in possible Max Raid battles in the Wild Area at Dusty Bowl, Giant's Mirror, Axew's Eye, Bridge Field, Dappled Grove, Giant's Mirror, Rolling Fields, and the Stony Wilderness. It can also be found in multiple locations in the expansion pass zones which I won't list.

Evolve Applin into Flapple by giving it a Tart Apple. Tart Apples are only available in Sword version, and cannot be purchased or found in Shield, making Flapple somewhat of a version exclusive Pokémon. If you have Sword version, you can by a Tart Apple from the Pokemart in Hammerlocke. Otherwise, you'll have to try your luck finding a Tart Apple in the Wild Area at Axew's Eye.

If you'd rather skip the drama of tracking down a flappin' Tart Apple for evolution, you can obtain a Flapple directly exclusively in Sword version. You'll need to battle and capture it in possible Max Raid battles in Axew's Eye, Bridge Field, Dappled Grove, Giant's Mirror, and Stony Wilderness. If you want to find one with the ability to G-Max, you'll need to narrow your search to the Dappled Grove.

~CONCLUSION~

Maybe one day the Pokémon of the Week will be one I've actively had on my team. As much as I enjoyed learning all the flappin' apple-based lore about Flapple, I haven't ever used one. I do really like the idea behind it, even if it is a little silly. Overall, a solid Attack 'mon with a unique typing I like a lot!

When she spoke, her breath was warm against his neck, but Caliban could feel how stuttered her breathing was. "I was so scared and confused. At first there were two, a blonder man with light eyes, then just the one who got shot.   He kept yelling at me that I was here to spy on you and he'd have Mircea come get me.  He knew who I was and I would not get away with this.  That’s when he tried to call Mircea…" Adira felt like each word had to be pushed out with the greatest effort.  The last couple sentences were intermixed with sniffles and soft sobs, till finally she could not go on.  There had been a point where she'd been afraid of getting shot, a thought that still made her feel cold within Caliban’s embrace.  Sadly, that fear and the fear of death wasn't uncommon with Mircea, but the tenderness she was receiving now was.  "I'm sorry for whatever I did wrong.  Please, just tell me…" suddenly her words refused to come out when she  was pushed back from Caliban and staring into his face, the simultaneous rage and pain that filled his eyes almost broke her.

"Nothing.   You did absolutely nothing wrong.” His hands gently held her face once more, fingers smoothing over her hair to try to comfort her. This was not an area that Caliban was adept at, but he would make sure she was comforted as best he could and knew she would be even more greatly protected from here on out.   

“And that guard, he is dead.  If he hadn’t been when I made it to him, I would have done it myself for daring to hurt you.  No one lays a hand on you, no one.  I will not tolerate anyone harming you ever again, Adira." Caliban’s eyes slowly closed as he placed another lingering kiss in the middle of her forehead, the seal on a silent vow to make Mircea Kalavati pay for every second of pain he'd caused her.  The bruise still evident on her sweet face was a constant reminder of that at the moment.  That she could think it had been her that had caused whatever had transpired enraged him.  She would learn not to be so afraid, now her husband would protect not terrorize her. 

Adira clung to him, still confused by the tenderness of a man she knew ran in the same circles and life as her ex-husband. Her tears seemed to pain him as much as they were born of her own pain. She had expected him to be upset that one guard was dead and another shot, yet he was cradling her as if she was encased in an eggshell he was afraid of cracking.  "Why?" One stuttered word held a plethora of emotions and the weight of it hung heavy in the air even after the vibrations of her voice had faded. 

Caliban wasn't even sure how to answer. He wasn't sure what to answer.  How did he explain that there was something about her that made him want to protect her regardless of how long he'd known her? What explanation was there for feeling a connection to someone that you had known for such a short amount of time?  He was scared of sounding crazy, or worse frightening her more than she already was. 

“Adira, there is something about you that spoke to me even in that dark basement.  Your strength even in the face of what you had been through is unusual in my world. Few argue with me, fewer still live to tell of it.  You doing so caused me to want to protect you.” His thumb once more sweeping away a tear that tore at his heart. “Theron gets along with few, likes fewer, and yet you have captivated us both. You are the flame in the darkness that the moth of my heart seems to have been searching for.  I can explain it no better than that, I’m still trying to understand our dynamic as well.  I have no regrets in anything, know that.  You ARE my wife and I WILL take care of you.”  His fingers caressed the side of her face, the tip of one just barely dancing over the lingering bruise that he had sworn to repay a hundred times over to the one who had caused it. Every glance at it causing the ember of rage within him to flame anew.  “You are unique in my world, and I protect those things that are unique and special to me.  I am only sorry that I failed you this time.  I can only hope someone got something out of Kondrat before he died.  I will do whatever it takes so that never happens again. Please, trust me, darling.”

Adira nodded softly, her face still cradled so gently in his hands that she knew could bring about great violence.  Unlike Mircea, she did not fear Caliban’s hands and that still confused her as well.  When Kondrat had been dragging her towards the gate, screaming, and even trying to call her ex-husband, she knew that if Caliban, Lars, or Theron got there that she would be safe.  Safe.  A word she had never felt around anyone for over a decade since she had married Mircea.  Yet, here with Caliban she felt that way after only a day.  And she trusted at least two of his people, even if one of them had gone rogue.  She couldn’t explain it because she didn’t understand it, but she trusted those three men more than she had ever trusted anyone, but most of all the one in front of her.

I learned it's Moth Week, and that felt like a very good time to post my Moff pieces all together. :) While bees will always be my number one best buzzies, I have a big soft spot in my heart for months too.

Femplettet køllesværmer (Zygaena lonicerae)

Femplettet køllesværmer er en dagaktiv sværmer i køllesværmer-familien (Zygaenidae). Der er flere lignende arter.

Larverne, som har overvintret, kommer frem i det sene forår, og i løbet af maj æder de sig store i kløver (Trifolium). Fra midt maj til starten af juni forpupper larverne sig i karakteristike gule til brune, teltagtige pupper på græsstrå og halvhøje urter. På egnede lokaliteter kan der på den måde være i hundredevis af pupper, som lyser gult i vegetationen.

I løbet af et par uger udvikler larven inde i puppen sig til den voksne køllesværmer, og i løbet af de næste par uger myldrer det med køllesværmere, som sidder en tid og tørrer vinger, inden de påbegynder søgningen efter føde og en mage. Ofte benytter en han sig af, at hunnen skal skal vente på, at hendes vinger tørrer, til at påbegynde parringen.

I nogle dage endnu bliver de voksne køllesværmere på lokaliteten, hvor de ofte sidder i småflokke på strå og blomster, inden de spreder sig ud i det omkringliggende område i søgen efter tidsler (Carduus) og andre kilder til nektar.

Narrow-bordered five-spot burnet (Zygaena lonicerae)

The Narrow-bordered five-spot burnet is a diurnal moth in the family Zygaenidae). Several similar species.

The larvae or caterpillars, having wintered, emerge mid to late spring, and during May they gorge themselves on clover (Trifolium) in their final instar. From mid-May till early June the caterpillars pupate in characteristic, yellow to brown, tent-like pupae on straws and weeds. In suitable locations, hundreds of these pupae  are like small, yellow lights in the vegetation.

During a couple of weeks, the pupating caterpillar developes into the adult moth, and over the next weeks scores of  Narrow-bordered five-spot burnets emerge. They sit for a while, letting their wings dry, and the start searching for food and a mate. Often, a male will seize the chance to start mating a female moth waiting for her wings to properly unfold and dry.

For a few more days, the burnets stay at the site, often gathered in small groups on straws and flowers. Then they scatter in the surrounding area in search for new sources of nectar, often thistle (Carduus).

Camera

   Some - but not all - of us can remember taking photos on cheap 70s-era cameras. Waiting, perhaps, months to see how the photo turned out. I think that the comparatively spectacular quality of digital cameras and video today, placed in the hands of ordinary folks all over the world, has

changed cat ownership forever.

   We did not used to be able to share toe beans widely! Or your favorite moth, or your idiot backyard chickens! If you had a heccin’ good pupper, nobody but your family and close neighbors would know!

   In this regard, if nothing else, we are living in a good timeline.

@eradami​ submitted: This little Metric Paper Wasp (Polistes metricus) very politely ignored the mailwoman as she delivered our mail. The same cannot be said of the pupper.

This American Dagger Moth caterpillar (Acronicta americana) crossed paths with me on my walk between classes. I think they were going to the library to study!

This Black Horse Fly (Tabanus atratus) was found tragically deceased, but the ants got a feast out of it!

I've met far more aggressive dogs than I have aggressive wasps tbh. But I love them both equally :) What a beautiful wasp friend, though! I agree the caterpillar looks ready to buckle down and study hard for their upcoming test. RIP, horse fly! Always nice when a bug gets a meal even though another had to die for it. So it goes...

How would Jackie be effected if he were fully corrupted by his death omen? Would he act similar to Marvin and only go off of emotion? What would he look like? And also how would he be returned to normal?

It would be similar! Just instead of acting as a cat Jackie would act as a wolf

I also imagine him looking a lot more like a wolf

And having wolf behavior so he’ll still have this emotional bond to death omen!Marvin and protect him

So Rufus (the death omen pupper) can’t corrupt people Rufus is there to help get people who are being chased after by the other death omen out and saved. So if Rufus couldnt fight them off then it’ll be left to Marvins wisps since wisps in literature are there to help and guide lost souls out to safety.

So it’ll be Wispy going to each individual corrupted ego and guide them out and defeat the death omen that’s trying to corrupt their soul and kill them

I thought I Lost You - John Travolta & Miley Cyrus

This song is from one of my absolute all-time favourite movies; Bolt. I was obsessed with it when I was a kiddo and I desperately wanted my own "super dog". Then my pupper Alfie wandered into my life and we became instant best friends.

He went missing one day and I was devastated. I thought I had lost my best friend, I was worried I'd never see him again. However, he was picked up and returned to us a few days later and I was so relieved.

He's about 12 now and enjoying life as a senior doggo. I know it's probably silly but the song is one of my reminders of all the adventures we had together and became that much more meaningful to me after that incident.

Honestly, I've never tried either of them but they both seem fun.

Oh gosh, it might be easier to ask what isn't a comfort item I own.

I have blankets and plushies and cushions and hoodies and nice warm, comfy socks.

The one I'm picking for this though is Moth, he's my therapy buddy. He's a Squishable Luna Moth plush and he is just adorable, I never go to therapy without him.💛
