Second PIP deck down, and this time it's The Wise Mothman! Not quite sure where I want this deck to end up, it's not my usual play style and I know it still needs work. Most of the individual cards seem neat, but I wasn't super sold on Mothman nor The Master. I'm mostly building this deck because I enjoy the cards and I would feel bad having them sit in a binder.

Rad counters seem good but they feel as likely to kill me as they are to kill my opponent, especially if I want to mill myself. Maybe they'll be better than I expect, but no way to tell until I start playing.

I was looking at some of my old stuff, and my color palette for Moth Miquella has drifted quite a bit.

Which one do you guys prefer? A) Hollow Knight off-white, or B) Until Dawn grey? I’m leaning toward A, but I’d love to hear what you guys think.

After drawing Mothman a story idea came to me. So I drew another character.

This is Chandra, she is 8 years old and autistic. She communicates mostly through her IPad and sign language. After wandering off a trail she got lost and Mothman found her. Chandra has a hyperfixation on insects so Mothman doesn’t freak her out and she actually trusts him immediately because he’s something familiar and calming.

Chandra is also Muslim. I am NOT. I took a religion class in college so I know a little bit and I really want to learn more. If I continue this story I will do more research. If I have done depicted anything wrong or disrespectful PLEASE TELL ME. I don’t mean any disrespect I want to learn. When I have characters represent things I want to represent them right.

nah but I think so much about. livvy liking and trusting palpatine, partially bc of his benevolent old man act, sure, but mostly? mostly she likes him bc anakin likes and trusts him. anakin speaks so highly of him and trusts him and will tell livvy about how palpatine always, always had faith in him and livvy is grateful and trusting of him as a result.

I really appreciate how open you are about what your body puts you through and the unhelpful attempts to help that you receive. My wife was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis back in 2016 (among other things, and among other diagnoses that she really needs to seek/be evaluated for), and we've had much the same experience. "Have you tried tumeric? Try tumeric! Just eat some yogurt, the probiotics will balance out your lactose intolerance!"

Related: I also recommended your blog to a new friend who has MCAS and was floored that I knew anything about it... about which I credited everything to you. So thank you for helping him feel seen!

Thank you, that’s very kind of you to say—and I’m glad you were able to be there for your friend. And that your wife has a supportive partner for their chronic illness. I’m sure that means a lot to them to both of them.

I know it does to me when I’m trapped in bed for a week and @mothman-etd has to take care of me.

And I try very hard to be patient with folks who offer unsolicited health advice. Though, frankly, I delete anywhere from 10-15 messages a day asking me if I’ve tried xyz cure.

Those are the ones that tend to start along the lines of “I know you claim to have tried everything but have you actually tried [very basic medication/intervention commonly associated with the illness here]?”

Those people show their true colors. Their ableism is showing by telling me there’s no way they believe I’ve done everything in my power to still be suffering. They don’t get to eat up my valuable energy with a response.

When I do respond to folks it’s usually because I think the person means well but needs to be reminded that unsolicited health advise is not kind, often frustrating and that they need to learn to curb that impulse and ask themselves, is this person asking for advice, or do they just need to vent?

Sometimes people take it extremely poorly like a rejection of themselves and not a behavior they can correct. Other times they go, “oh shit, my bad! I didn’t even think how patronizing that was.”

The latter is preferable, lol.

Chapter 13

(Content warning: Valentino attempts to SA someone. Nothing graphic, but proceed with caution.)

Everything was normal and chill for the few weeks Valentino was reforming. Alastor and Zariah would cook meals together and be found dancing together all the time, they looked like a proper happy couple! They'd occasionally go visit Rosie for tea and chat, and he'd even introduced her to mimzy, who was immediately jealous. They even had new guests at the hotel!

 

But, all banquets must come to an end…

Zariah went for a walk with Nifty one day, and didn't come home at their scheduled time. Alastor immediately went to Angel, insisting he call Zariah, since Al didn't possess a cell phone. Angel tried, but it went straight to voice-mail. This had Alastor very troubled. “She never turns it off when she's out. This is bad.”

Angel looked at Alastor, “We need to get a search party going asap.” He then ran off to get Charlie. Alastor himself went into the shadows to search the streets as quickly and efficiently as possible. 

Meanwhile, Zariah woke up tied up in red rope. But where's Nifty?! She looked around, the place was strange and unfamiliar, mostly blue with a giant fish tank with sharks behind her. She found Nifty beside her, still asleep and also tied up. Suddenly a door opened on the other end of the room.

 

“You'll love this present, I've captured Alastor's little lady love~. Now we can both get our revenge on that stupid radio demon. Too bad Velvette is too busy with her fashion show across the ring to join in.” Valentino laughed, excited to show off his gift for Vox. Zariah's ears laid flat on her head as they both approached. She decided to try to use Alastor's advice and forced her ears to straighten and point forward, then put on her most confident grin.

“Heh, you're the idiots! He's just been playing with you till now! Once he sees you've taken his favorite pet, he'll slaughter you both!” She was proud of how well she kept her fear down. She just kept picturing his face, he said he'd protect her. He promised, he made a deal!  

Vox approached her with a smile of his own, “Oh you'll be fun to break, won't you?” He reached out to her, only for Nifty to suddenly lunge at his hand and bite his finger clean off! Vox screamed and pulled back his hand. Nifty quickly turned and cut Zariah's ropes with her knife she'd hidden up her dress. “Run! I'll take care of these Bad Boys~!” She giggled and lunged again. Zariah got up and ran a full sprint! Luckily, speed and agility were her specialty. Valentino chased after her, beginning a game of cat and mouse throughout the entire building.

The others were going crazy scouring the city for any sign of Nifty or Zariah. Until Charlie managed to find one of Nifty's heels outside the Vee's tower. She called everyone else to her location, having Angel try to find Alastor to inform him of their lead, so Angel could potentially avoid dealing with Valentino.

The rest of them entered the tower and tried to sneak their way through, only for emergency alarms to immediately go off.

Zariah ended up cornered, baring her fangs. “Haven't you heard, Mothman, a fox is at its most dangerous when backed into a corner.” He only chuckled and used his smoke powers to try and chain her hands up,

“And just what are you going to do about it, pretty little thing? You're in my house now.” She hissed and growled before lunging at him, she clawed and bit at him, drawing blood.

The rescue squad tore their way through the tower's defenses, making their way to Vox and Nifty. Seeing the reinforcements, he growled, “fuck this shit!” He retreated and made a solid escape, completely abandoning Valentino.

 ________

By the time Angel found Alastor, it had already been an hour, “Al! Fucking christ you're hard to fucking find, we found her! Get your ass to the Vee's tower, asshole!” Angel was out of breath and had tears in his eyes.

Alastor's eyes glowed for a second, “Vox…” He fell into the shadows and raced off.

When he entered the building, he destroyed every camera in his wake, killing every sinner that crossed his path until he finally found Valentino raving and screaming, “Augh, where did that bitch get to now?! I'll fuck her till she can't move! Then I'll let that radio bastard see the broken mess his little pet is in before killing her.” He chuckled darkly. 

Alastor growled and his tentacles came out, lashing at Valentino.

“As I said before, she's not for your lewd videos. She is pure as fresh snow and shall stay that way.” His voice was distorted as hell and filled with pure fury. Their fight was vicious, eventually the others showed up to help. Alastor ended up stealing Vaggie's angelic spear and the fight ended with Valentino's head on it like a pike. He offered it back to her once he was certain Valentino was dead for good. He gave an empty smile to Charlie, “Tell Angel he's out of a job.” He then walked away, searching for Zariah. He summoned her chain and followed it. He needed to see what state she was in. 

 

When he eventually found her, she was curled up in a wardrobe shivering and hiding behind her tails. He breathed a sigh of relief,

“Zariah, darling.” He reached out to her only for her to scratch his hand and hiss. Her hand that had popped out from behind her tails was covered in blood, both red and gold.

“Ah! Dear, that was very uncalled for.” He wanted to be mad but… She was clearly not herself right now, he couldn't blame her for protecting herself. 

“Nothing's gonna harm you, darling, not while I'm around…” He started to sing the song from the other day.

“Nothing's going to harm you, no ma'am, not while I'm around.

Demon's may charm you with a smile, for a while,

But in time…

Nothing can harm you,

Not while I'm around…” Her shivering stopped and her hand retreated. He took the chance and pulled her tails down from her face. Her eyes were dilated into thin slits, and her face was covered in red, with a thin trail of gold down her cheek. She also had a rather sizable chunk of Valentino's wing hanging from her mouth. He smiled fondly at her, his own heart fluttering.

“Now dear, that is in no way the quality of meat you deserve. Drop it, and I'll give you something far more worthy of your refined palette.” He reached out and took the furthest end of the wing and tried to pull it from her, only she held it in a death grip. “Dear. I said, Drop It. ” It was a stern command, she would obey him.

She slowly released, letting it drop from her mouth. He threw it across the room and placed his own arm in front of her face. “Here, if you desire flesh, try a bite of mine~ I'm guaranteed to taste far better than that disgusting insect.”

She didn't move at first, but… after a moment, she leaned closer and sniffed his scent. She then pulled his arm closer to her, making him fall over into her space and crowding her. “Ah, dear! Careful now, I'm bleeding quite a bit right now.” She wrapped her arms around him and nuzzled into his neck, closing her eyes and purring. She began to heal him before gently biting his shoulder.

 

“Mine…” She whispered, starting to come back to herself. “My person, mine mine mine.” He felt a little uneasy from her claims… but he'd let it go for now. He scooped her into his arms.

“Alright, my darling, let's get you back home and all cleaned up.”

“Al… I love you.” She whispered.

 

“I… know you do. And I care for you too. More than anyone else in hell.” He turned to find all of the hotel staff standing in the doorway, Nifty bouncing excitedly, and Charlie looking misty eyed. Until they noticed all the angel blood on Zariah. Charlie was the first to speak up,

“Oh my…fuck! She's secretly an angel too?! Did you know? Did anyone else know?!” She was distressed over having this happen to her for a second time!

 

“Not the time for that, Charlotte.” Alastor said sternly. “I'm taking her to her room. No one is to disturb us. I am going to help her heal. Only Angel Dust may come check on her.”

whatever you do, do NOT take jake to an arcade because he will definitely end up yelling at someone. it’s either at management about the games being rigged (which some are) or at the asshole who had cheeto dust on their fingers when they were playing the game you were about to play

for as much as steven loves lord of the rings, marc and jake don’t (marc doesn’t let on that he enjoys it but jake is so confused by it)

First off I love the crackships they are wonderful to think about.

Second, Seth and Jack would be the disaster camping pair. Could be romantic could be platonic. Like they both love being outside and experiencing wilderness, but Jack is just unintentionally the worse camper ever. Just the most accident prone, direction-ally challanged, unskilled mess. But he is always so relentlessly positive no matter what happens and he does know what plants have medicinal properties (he listen to Finn talk a lot). Seth is equal parts exasperated and fond of Jack's nonsense. Jack will just listen to his rants about Mothman and other cryptids like it's the most interesting thing in the world. Even if he doesn't always get it right, Seth can tell that Jack is just earnest when he offer help or advice, and he wouldn't take Seth's bad moods personally.

Jack appreciates that Seth is competent and skilled the ways he isn't, just not intimidated by it at all. He would honestly think Seth is the coolest person he's ever met, and that he was lucky to that someone like Seth would want to hang outwith him given that come from different social worlds. Jack might get himself into trouble trying to do something to impress Seth and be sheepishly thankful when Seth saves him. I did not mean to turn this into a dissertation.

FAQ

Is there a right way to start listening? Nope! You can jump in anywhere and anyway you want. If you really want advice on where to start, the general consensus seems to be a) listen to Gay Werewolf Murder Ballad or The Marriage of Bigfoot and Mothman first to get the vibes, then listen to the songs in album order, or b) go straight to listening to the songs in order. The main reason this is recommended is because some songs are explicitly connected to each other, so listening to them out of order first may be a bit confusing. Still, if that isn’t your speed, let me reiterate that there is no wrong way to listen.

Why are we called the Coven? Back in September 2022, the fmns found our little fandom here on Tumblr. In the notes of this post, mountaingnomes (one of the fmns) called us a “tiny coven” and the name stuck! I’ll link some other posts from that very eventful day bc it was quite a fun time.

Okay everyone I woke up randomly at 3AM and instead of going back to sleep decided to binge watched Part Two of Inside Job which spoiler alert only has eight episodes this time?!!! What the fuck?!!!! Any way these are some of my takeaways from this season. I will be doing an episode by episode analysis later but for now theses are my initial thoughts!

Spoiler Warning!!!!!!!!Seriously do not read if you don’t want the season to be spoiled!!!!

First let’s get the biggest part of the season out of the way the Reagan and Ron relationship(romantic relationship) And I know I might end up pissing off some shippers, who might have ended up liking them together. But they were doomed from the start and this was hinted at from the start of their relationship. I will go into more detail when I do the episode by episode analysis but if you look at it objectively it’s true. Now let me admit to you now that I am a Breagan shipper(and yes I will be talking about the few good moments we got this season) but the running theme for most of Reagan and Ron’s relationship was one them both wanting different things when it came to their careers and two stuff going wrong whenever an issue about their relationship came up. Ron made it clear from the beginning that he wanted out of working for the shadow government. He was tired and guilty and only stuck around longer because he fell in love with Reagan. He doesn’t want to stay and change things for the better because deep down he doesn’t think it is possible. Reagan in the meantime resents her job but deep down isn’t ready to give it up completely. She believes that she can change things for the better and wants to be in charge of making those changes happen. And even though she would be much better off walking away and forgetting her job and just being with Ron. She knows that she’ll never be able to completely stop because that’s who she is. And this is why their relationship would probably have never worked out. They were not on the same page from the very beginning. I do believe that overall this was a good relationship for Reagan to have in the long run but it was never healthy even Mothman pointed it out!

Now for the next important part of the season Rand’s progression and eventual downfall. While we can all agree that Rand is an asshole. This season goes out of its way to tell you that the reason for Rand’s behavior is because he wants what he believes to be his old happy life. To the point of rebooting reality just to get to a universe where both his ex-wife and daughter still love him. The downside is of course that nothing he does brings him what he wants it’s brings the gang to some of the things they think they want but they end up being wrong. And betraying the shadow government makes him end up in jail. This was a great example of how trying to make thing’s perfect for yourself could actually make everything else a lot worse. As for JR I would feel sorry for him if he hadn’t been willing to blow up the universe because he didn’t get an alternative perfect life. I do get why he is the way he is though!

Next we have the Reagan and Gigi friendship. No notes I loved it even though they try to explain away the change by pointing out that Reagan has no female friends. I thought it was sweet that Gigi was there for Reagan, giving her advice and helping out when needed. I hope their friendship continues.

Next Glenn, Myc and Andre, I’m grouping them all together because yes they have some good new developments here and there but they don’t really change overall. We just understand Myc slightly better after his High School reunion.

And now for all the Breagan shippers out there! I was worried going in that with Ron as Reagan’s love interest that there wouldn’t be any good Breagan shipping moments but god was I glad to be wrong! From Brett trying to get Reagan to go to therapy for her own good to Reagan being there to help Brett at least stand up a little to his family. To Reagan also deciding to keep her best friend out of danger and to Brett encouraging her to leave even though he would miss her was just pure shipping gold. Because Reagan and Brett continue to have the most solid relationship of anyone in the show!

Final thoughts, while I know a lot of people were turned off by Ron I do think he was needed for Reagan’s journey(which wow kind of sounds missed up that way) I do like that he was a red herring, where I’m sure we all thought he was secretly a villain (or Reagan’s secret brother) we were all expecting him to turn on Reagan but he never did and that is nice. While I’m not sure if he would ever come back I think his ending made sense for what we learned about him. And despite being heartbroken right now I hope that Reagan will still eventually try to move on with someone else(cough Brett cough cough) I would hate to see her not trying to have a New Romantic relationship because she thinks Ron is the only person who could ever love her.

I can't seem to go five minutes without thinking about more Logan angst today, so have this, too. It's an old thought that I've mentioned for years but never really posted here on tumblr.

Thomas' immediate reaction to Logan's appearance in Accepting Anxiety (Part 1) is to say "Ah, Logan's here, so I probably did something wrong." Logan then appears genuinely surprised and even somewhat distressed to hear Thomas say this, dismissing it as untrue before continuing to address his concern with Thomas' behavior.

The implication here, though, is that Thomas doesn't care about what he's saying but may commonly think this, even if only subconsciously, due to Logan's role in the series.

Thomas had become very accustomed to Logan only showing up to give exposition, provide knowledge and resources to better understand and discuss a topic, and to ultimately assist in resolving conflicts and issues Thomas has had. It makes sense that, through all that, Thomas may have inadvertently made a correlation of "I did something wrong" with Logan's arrival.

This is not necessarily something uncommon, both in real life and in media. Take, for instance, the myth of the Mothman. Some believe multiple sightings of the cryptid was a warning sign to an upcoming danger, based on a single instance in which several sightings of the Mothman occurred in and around Point Pleasant in a short period of time before a tragic bridge collapse that took many lives. There is nothing to suggest the cryptid had anything to do with the situation, but people were inclined to believe it merely due to the creature's appearance leading up to the disaster.

In Logan's case, even all the way back in Accepting Anxiety (Part 1), Logan was already being seen as his role of Thomas' logic and reasoning, not as Logan, a nerdy teacher character. He represents Logic, and logic dictates knowledge and advice, creates schedules and routines for Thomas' benefit, and only really exists to provide what is needed. Logan, on the other hand, is a big nerd who likes learning new vocabulary, indulging in his interests of space and watching Doctor Who, and reading mystery and sci-fi novels. He likes puzzles and trivia and Crofters and feeling like he's been useful and helped Thomas to the best of his ability.

Take another example, as it is not unreasonable for someone in the fictional version of Queens, NY to see Spiderman as a sign that crime is happening. While the hero's goal is to help fight that crime and serve justice, it is not as though merely seeing Spiderman means there is trouble afoot. But because people often only see or hear of the hero in regards to his role as the city's protector, they are more likely to see Spiderman for what he does rather than who he is.

If Peter Parker (or any other variation of Spiderman) were to walk around town, people wouldn't immediately associate his presence with danger or crime, but they might if he was still dressed as Spiderman. And that, right there, is the center of the issue - recognizing someone more for their role, but not as a person.

But Logan isn't the one who the other sides or Thomas seem to ever appreciate or want around. What they need is Logic, and what they don't want is Logan.

Virgil said it himself in Learning New Things About Ourselves with "No matter what we do, logic always has a part to play, Logan." While meant to be a positive message in context, indicating there are many different ways to address a problem, there is a negative connotation to this message, as well. The others' failure to consider Logan's difficulty in understanding their methodology only resulted in Logan believing his methods were ineffective and wrong. Being told that "logic has a part to play" indicates to him that they need Logic, but they didn't say they needed Logan (even though they spent a whole song stating that they needed all the other sides, specifically).

While some of the others also struggle with their identity separate from their role in the series, they often seek out the other sides for comfort and help with this issue. They are met with empathy, efforts to understand, and the assistance they need. Unfortunately for Logan, this doesn't happen for him, both due to what he understands for his role (he is meant to provide, not to receive) and his unwillingness to reach out to the others and break away from his role (especially as time goes on, as we've seen). Logan does not reach out and does not challenge the others' perceptions of him, and this results in his identity being taken up more and more by his role.

At this point in the series, it's a wonder he's involved at all except to provide exposition when asked. No matter all the times he's been dismissed or silenced, he adapts and finds new ways to benefit Thomas and fulfill his role while staying out of the way as much as possible. But, at some point, he's either going to adapt to something harmful (either to himself or Thomas) or he's going to refuse to keep adapting and stand up against his unfair treatment, challenging Thomas and the other sides' perceptions of him and the role he serves.

Good evening/morning/whenever it is that you have spoons enough to be conscious and responding to frivolous and impertinent asks.

I've been scrolling around in your chronic health tag to distract myself from a miserable headache (I'm not even sure I know what the difference is between a headache and a migraine right now, but whatever it is, it has finally dissipated) when I realized that I have no idea what the ETD in @mothman-etd is short for, but it seems related to health advocacy.

I am curious (and I will admit I lean rather heavily on absurdist humor as a coping mechanism of my own), and I have scrolled far on mobile but apparently never with the correct search terms, so I must ask: what is "ETD" short for?

I hope all three of you are safe and comfortable, where and whenever you are.

Evening! ETD has been short for a couple of nicknames my blog gave him before deciding he was Mothman (we still have no idea how that came about) but originally it was “Elusive Tumblr Dad.”

This was back before he had a tumblr and used to haunt my cytube channel like a ghost in the code and occasionally hit out with very dad-like jokes or advice.

He much prefers Mothman or Mothie these days.
