Jirisan (2021) - 지리산 - Whump List
Tumblr media
List by StayDandy Synopsis : Founded in 1967, Jirisan National Park is the oldest and largest of the country’s national parks, managed by a dedicated team of rangers. Kang Hyun Jo is an ex-military lieutenant who decided to become a ranger after experiencing a horrific incident on the mountain. (MDL) AKA : Mount Jiri | Jiri Mountain | Cliffhanger | Mountain Jiri
Whumpee : Kang Hyun Jo played by Joo Ji Hoon
Country : 🇰🇷 South Korea Genres : Thriller, Mystery, Fantasy
Notes : This is a Partial List - I didn't list every bit of whump, just what caught my attention the most
Episodes on List : 1 Total Episodes : 16
*Spoilers below*
02 : Kang Hyun Jo is stabbed
Honestly - I wasn't sure about posting this one. There is a bunch of whump throughout the show. Hell, the whole basis is a bunch of time jumps between a comatose Hyun Jo in the future, and his "spirit" of some kind helping himself & others in the past, & making sure he is found alive after he is hurt & left for dead - which is how he ends up in a coma - confused yet? lol .. idk, twisty stories like this just don't always "connect" for me. So ep 2 is all that really stuck out in the jumble ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If you want to know the rest of the whump, WhumpetyWhump has a good, complete list that I linked below.

Menulis Ulang “지리산”

JIRISAN
GENRES: Drama
SUMMARY: Jirisan mountain is huge and old, has seen some weird shit, and isn't afraid to tell you about it--even if you don't want to listen.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Pajeon, ghosts, rock-and-stick communication, windbreakers, stolen pine trees, accessibility concerns, and trees. LOTS of trees.
HOT TAKE: Is it wrong of me to just sit through this drama for the sole purpose of staring at Ju Ji Hoon for another dozen or so episodes?

Recs from May & June
I ended up making this one for two months instead of one. In May I started doing Kyudo with my best friend, and so far I'm loving it. In case you don't know, it's like Japanese archery with a longbow. We've yet to actually shoot any arrows, but I'm working hard on getting the technique down and gaining inner strength or whatever! I've also started an internship sorta thing at a daycare, altho I'm in the kitchen. It's chill. I've, as always, watched a few kdramas (surprise) and there were some good ones in there, so here we go:
TV shows
Tumblr media
Jirisan
Dudes... I started this show thinking it'd be mostly like smaller stories about people getting saved by ranger on a mountain for various reasons. I was ready for like some human stories and shit. But I was surprised to find out that this show is much more than that. And I loved it! Jirisan is a show about Mount Jiri, and evolves around the rangers of said mountain. They save people from the weather, from themselves, from others. It jumps back and forth between various years, and in the beginning it was a bit confusing, but I quickly managed to make a mind map over the various events. The show has supernatural elements, beautiful nature shots, a serial killer case and coworkers that gotta learn to tolerate and maybe even like eachother. I really liked this show and my words does not advocate well enough for it, but please if it sounds even a tiny bit interesting to you, check it out. I sat during the whole thing and longed to go hiking myself lmao
Tumblr media
Monstrous
Not gonna lie, I mostly watched this for Koo Kyo Hwan and Shin Hyun Bin, and it's relatively short. It's a horror web series by the same dude who made Train to Busan, about a rural town suddenly getting cursed by an ancient statue. The story is pretty predictable and doesn't really do anything new with it, but it's shot nicely, and acted nicely, and I think it was worth it anyways!
Tumblr media
The King of Pigs
The King of Pigs is a kdrama based on the Korean animated film of the same title. This show was a brutal watch. We follow out two main characters Kyung Min and Detective Jong Seok. Kyung Min lives a relatively normal life with his wife, until one days his supressed memories of his traumatic school years reappear. A string of murders begin and after Detective Jong Seok recieves a mysterious message related to these murders, he sets out to catch the killer. Along the present day plot the show also gives us plenty flashbacks to Kyung Min and Jong Seok's school days. The show is phenomenally acted, especially the child actors deserve praise. Instead of using adult actors for their teen characters, they cast actual teen actors for the roles, and it makes it all so much more real and brutal to watch. I felt so many emotions during this show and a bullying victim myself. There's something extremely satisfying about revenge stories like these, altho I wouldn't simply categorize this show as revenge story. It's way more, and overall it's a tragedy. 10/10 man
TW for bullying, violence, suicide, torture, etc. It's brutal guys, if you wanna know specifics feel free to message me.
Tumblr media
Bloody Heart
Watched this one as it aired, and I was originally pulled in by the absolutely amazing cinematography, and stayed for the intriguing political backstabbing. I'll have to rewatch at some point, bc I'm not entirely sure I got the whole political part of the plot lmao, but I understood enough for it to be enjoyable and intriguing. We follow a few characters, the King Lee Tae who ascends the throne after his father who was made king after a rebellion, Park Gye Won the First Vice-Premier (I'm not entirely sure about all these political roles in historical Korean stories) who's helped Lee Tae's father deposing the former king and starting a new dynasty, and lastly Yoo Jeong the daughter of a noble family who Lee Tae wants to marry. Lee Tae wants absolute monarchical power, and believes any action is justifiable to achieve his goals, while Yoo Jeong is a very sympathetic woman who wants whats best for the people on the country.
It's a story of power struggle and court intrigue, with so much drama and a tasteful amount of romance too. Every character is interesting and unique, and I kinda ended up rooting for multiple people at once, despite them opposing eachother lmao.
Video Games
Tumblr media
The Quarry
My best friend and I has made it a tradition to play these supermassive horror games whenever they come out, they're some of her favourites, and I too was really looking forward to this one. We played through this together in one sitting (about 11 hours??) and guys, I loved it. It's cliched and obviously draws inspiration from a lot of cheesy horror movies, but that's what I love about this.
You play as this group of camp councilors who are stranded at a camp lodge for a night, and being young people that they are they decide to throw a party. Only there's monsters lurking in the shadows. If you don't know how these games work, you play as each individual character, the POV kinda switches between them, and if you play with a friend like I did, you can divide them between eachother and then pass the controller over to whoever is being controlled at the moment. It's a story with a narrative, that you can affect to a certain extent with choices you make in game. Depending on what you choose, what you say, and whether or not you fail certain QTEs and similar, you can get characters killed or not.
I think the acting and the dialogue in The Quarry was great, it was cheesy, and sometimes really dumb, but they had many lines that had me laughing, and I think it was better than the dialogue in Until Dawn. Each character is played with a real life actor, and I love that the developers even made sure each character had their own unique body model.
Wanna warn and say that the plot is pretty basic, and does use some awful stereotypes of romani people. And also just general TW for gore and violence etc
Bonus
Tumblr media
Cabaret
Went to see Cabaret in Aarhus Teater and it was great, second time I'm seeing Cabaret in general, and it's definitely one of my favourite musicals, and I don't have much to say, I just really like their adaption of it. Despite it taking place in the 30s Berlin, it's sadly still very much relevant today.

Jiri Prochazka talks getting lost on mountain, trek that left toe ‘a little bit black’
Jiri Prochazka is perfectly comfortable being in pitch black for days at a time. But that’s indoors. The former UFC light heavyweight champ can still feel the effects of an outdoor scare one year ago that left him stumbling near-blind in the wilderness outside Las Vegas. All he has to do is look at his toe. “I wanted to go to the Las Vegas Mountains, and I found some some top edge like Mount…

Explore The Hidden Gems Of Nepal
Nepal is known for its majestic mountains, rich cultural heritage, and diverse wildlife. Nepal has much more to offer than the most visited place like Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan. While these famous places are fascinating in their own way, you can go off the beaten path and discover places that are off the beaten path. Travel to Nepal to experience the beauty of nature and relaxation. Nestled between India and China, Nepal is a blend of the ancient and the modern, a unique little land where time seems to stand still. Here are some hidden gems of Nepal, that you should visit which will leave you mesmerized by their untouched beauty.
Siddha Gufa
Nepal has many hidden caves, especially in places like Pokhara and Mustang. This is the largest cave in Nepal. It is in Bandipur. The ceiling of the cave is covered with colorful bats, walking around the cave is an exciting experience. The water that flows through the rocks is another attraction in the cave. The most popular way to go to Siddha Gufa is by trekking from Bandipur, which takes about 1.5 hours to walk each way if it is muddy. Another route is a 45-minute uphill trek to the cave from Bimalnagar (located on Prithvi Road). The way to enter the cave is a dusty path full of rocks which can be slippery during the rainy season. The road is maintained to make it easy for tourists to climb. It is important to take a local guide at the cave entrance who will guide you through the cave and tell you more about it.
Jiri
Jiri is a beautiful village in the foothills of the Himalayas. It is a beautiful valley with beautiful landscapes, hill stations, and mountain peaks. This place is the perfect escape from the daily grind and the hustle and bustle of city life. Surrounded by mountains and beautiful landscapes, the place gives a vibe of Switzerland. The landscape of Jiri is known as an attraction for many nature lovers. It is covered with green grass, plants, and trees which accentuate the beauty of the place. The first Everest expeditions, Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary, also passed through this route. Therefore, Jiri is also called "the door of Mount Everest". Jiri offers a variety of cultures and a mixed population of  Sherpa, and Tamang.
Rara National Park
Rara, located in the northwest of Nepal, is the smallest national park in the country and the hidden gem of Nepal. Rara National Park is one of Nepal's best-kept secrets. The rich vegetation in the park is home to a variety of wildlife. In winter, a variety of birds can be seen in the park of Rara. The highest point in the park is Rara Lake, the deepest and largest lake in Nepal. Its beauty is enhanced by the surrounding green hills, covered with trees, making it the perfect place to camp by the sparkling waters of the lake. The lake joins the Mugu Karnali River through Nijar Khola. The nearby Chuchemara mountain is the best place to get a breathtaking view of the blue lake, the forested mountains, and the snow-capped mountains. To start your journey, fly from Nepalgunj to Jumla, where it will take you 2-3 days to walk to Rara Lake. Jumla is well known for its apples and visiting these beautiful places can be a wonderful experience. The journey leads through the countryside to the Tibetan border. A trip to the Jumla region and the beautiful Rara Lake can be one of the most fascinating treks in the Himalayas.
Bardiya National Park
Bardiya National Park is located in western Nepal, it's a reserve and remote tourism. Although it is one of the best places in Asia to see tigers. However, the natural beauty of the park is worth the effort to go there. Nepal is best known for its mountains, but it also has forests. Bardiya National Park was created to protect the wildlife and nature of the area. The Karnali and Babai rivers flow through the park and it is surrounded by dense forests and savanna plains. The Big Three of Bardiya include the Royal Bengal Tiger, the Horned Rhinoceros, and the Wild Elephant. The river is home to crocodiles. You will need luck to see them, but it is easy to see some other animals like langur monkeys, deer, blackbucks, and many birds. However, the few lodges that surround the park offer a wide range of activities from jungle walks to jeep safaris. The guide is necessary because they are properly trained to show the animals. You can also visit the crocodile sanctuary and the birthing center or take a bike to explore the countryside around the park where the Tharu indigenous people live. The best time to see tigers is at the end of summer before the onset of monsoon.
Gokyo Lakes Trek
Everyone knows Mount Everest - the highest mountain in the world with the iconic Everest Base Camp trek, one of the most famous treks in the world. However, what many people don't know is that just a little bit on the EBC road that it offers a beautiful place hiking trip to Gokyo Lakes. Almost all trekkers in the Everest region find themselves spending a few nights on the way up to Namche Bazaar (3,400m) at the center of their journey. As the EBC tour continues north from here, you can take a left into the delightful Thame Valley, you can enjoy the incredible view, of the freeway, and of the quiet and friendly tea house. Don't underestimate the rigors of this difficult pass - between the steep climb and the lack of oxygen at this level. As you drag yourself across the pass, you will immediately encounter the first of the 19 amazing lakes of Gokyo (the world's highest lake) shining in the sun in the valley, the highest mountains in the world including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. Visit some of the lakes and climb Gokyo Ri, a spectacular view from the lake, which can provide the best view of Mount Everest. You can also continue to Kongma-La to complete the trip of the Three Passes, or spend a day or two going down the Gokyo Valley, also entering the main EBC route and Tengboche. Starting from Lukla, most people take 10-14 days to complete the Gokyo Lakes cruise, staying at teahouses along the way (usually around $20-30 per night including meals).
Poon Hill Trek
Poon Hill Trek is perfect for those who have no trekking experience. The journey is not "exhausting", as there are no major climbs. However, the three-day hike to the top of the mountain usually involves rock steps, so be prepared. The first two days of walking start shortly after breakfast until sunset, so it's a tough day but with a good guide you'll have the time of your life. There is a stop for lunch, where it will be lentils and curry, great fuel for travel. You can find Western food here, but it is advisable to stick to Nepalese food. The third night is very interesting because it involves staying at the guest house at the bottom of the mountain. The views from the top are very impressive. The sun will rise over the mountains the mesmerizing views make you happy and forget all the tiredness.
Langtang Valley Trek
Tumblr media
Langtang Valley Trek is one of the best-known treks in Nepal. It is a 5-7 day trip that starts at about 1500m in the green forest and ends at 4600m in the snow-covered mountains. The total distance of the trip is 77 kilometers. It is a moderate and difficult trek that requires good tolerance. The landscape of the trip is really interesting; lush forests, mountains, rivers, small towns, green valleys, and spectacular rock formations. Langtang is not commercialized and developed as a popular trekking route in Nepal. It has basic facilities, including a tea house for travelers. It is a great cultural experience to see how people live in a small village, how they cook, raise their children, etc. The Tamang people are a local tribe. The region was hit hard by the 2015 earthquake. Traveling to Langtang and staying with the local people is a great way to support them and help them recover from the disaster.

How to get to Everest Base Camp (EBC) from Nepal?
Everest Base Camp is a dream destination for many tourists to see the great Mount Everest. There are two camps in Tibet and Nepal respectively. This guide will explain how to get to Everest Base Camp from Nepal.
Tumblr media
There are two camps on Mount Everest
There are two organized Everest Base Camps on opposite sides of the highest mountain in the world - Mount Everest. The one on the Nepal side is called South Base Camp and is at an altitude of 17,598 feet. (5,364m). The other is in Tibet at 17,060 feet (5,200 m) and is known as North Base Camp. These campsites are rudimentary and are used by climbers to ascend and descend on expeditions. When ascending from the Southeast Ridge and Northeast Ridge, South Base Camp and North Base Camp are used respectively.
South Base Camp in Nepal
It is the most popular route for trekking in the Himalayas. Thousands of climbers use this south-facing park every year. To reach here, travelers usually choose a flight to Lukla from Kathmandu and start the journey in the morning. This can make the trek more enjoyable. To visit this camp, it is necessary to obtain certain permits and certificates, including Nepal travel permit and foreign travel permit, etc.
North Base Camp in Tibet
North Base Camp is located in Zhaxizong Town, Tingri County, Shigatse Prefecture of Tibet Autonomous Region, about 600 kilometers from Lhasa city. Everest Base Camp sits on a narrow pass at the foot of Mount Everest and is the closest point for ordinary tourists to see the world's highest peak.
Visiting a camp in the South is better than in the North
If you are looking for some adventurous trip then you definitely need to visit South Base Camp. There you will get chance to hike to Everest Base Camp. On the way to the EBC there are so many beautiful scenery to explore and enjoy like picturesque villages, terraced fields, and lovely rhododendron and pine forests. There are also many establishments like tents and tea house etc where you can take break for some time.
How to reach South Base Camp from Nepal
Generally speaking, if you are in Nepal and want to go to EBC, you must first apply for a Tourist Group Visa and Travel Permit to enter Nepal. The travel agents based in Kathmandu can help you get them.
From Kathmandu fly to Lukla and proceed to South Base Camp
Many people fly to Lukla from Kathmandu. There are several flights daily that take 25 minutes to arrive. From Lukla, the trek starts to Namche Bazaar (3,440m), a Sherpa town with many hotels, restaurants, shops and more. Since it takes two days to reach this place, it is recommended to rest for a day and enjoy it. Then, for the next two days, the trek continues to Dingboche (4,260m), and a rest day is recommended for more activities. Then, following the trail through Gorakshep, the plateau below Mount Pumori and Kala Patthar, you will take another two days to reach South Base Camp. The entire journey from Lukla to Everest base camp usually takes 8 days.
Kathmandu to Jiri and trek from Jiri to Everest base camp
Another route is from Kathmandu to Jiri, a small town in the lower Everest region, and from Jiri to Everest Base Camp via Lukla. The journey from Jiri to Lukla takes about 3-4 days, but it is not popular but peaceful and pleasant.
After that, from Lukla to Namche Bazaar, the journey continued. And then you can take the same route from Lukla to Everest Base Camp as mentioned above, passing through Dingboche and Gorakshep on the way.
Fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa and then to EBC
You can fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa first and then choose to drive to Tingri, following the friendly road. After Tingri, you will turn south towards the Mount Everest Natural Reserve, and drive another 100 kilometers to reach the Everest Base Camp. Traveling from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp, you will pass Tibetan tourist villages such as Gyantse, Shigatse, Lhatse, as well as famous tourist spots such as Yamdrok Lake and Karola Glacier. The amazing landscape of the Tibetan mountains makes the trip very interesting and memorable.
Packing list
It is really important to pack your things properly for a safe, comfortable and hassle-free travel experience because it will get cold out there. Here is your list in full:
1. Bring a fleece jacket and down jacket.
2. Wear at least 4 thermal underwear. Also, take at least three to four t-shirts because sweat-absorbent cotton t-shirts will make you cold. A warm long-sleeved jacket is recommended. Take extra warm clothes like a sweater, a pair of thermals, 2 long pants and sweatpants. You can also get 2 pairs of wool socks and sports socks, 2 pairs of wool and synthetic gloves. Take a warm scarf or a muffler as it would be very cold in the mountains, especially above 3000m.
3. Take light and soft shoes or boots that will be useful when visiting nearby places and wear high-quality broken-in shoes for travel. Stock up on the perfect raincoat, woolen hat, sun hat and branded and pre-lined sunglasses.
4. It is recommended to sleep warm and comfortable in the underwear because it will keep you warm in winter. A hot water bottle is recommended.
5. Choose a toilet-friendly, stocked with good SPF sunscreens, travel towels, lip balm, cold cream, body lotion and, for those days you can't shower, baby wipes.
6. Take water purifiers, because you can drink water from lakes and rivers along the way.
7. Prepare your own medical kit which should contain anti-diarrheal medicine, antibiotics for heart or other sinus infections, as it is cold there and can get infected, bring adhesive bandages and adhesive tape.
Other action plans
1. It is wise to take the necessary time to recover from the illness affecting you. Pay attention to symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, insomnia, shortness of breath and lack of appetite, these can be symptoms of upper respiratory infections.
2. Cover up well as the sun is strong here, use good sunscreen and make sure to reapply it regularly, wear long sleeves and long pants.

JIRI KALAPATTHAR TREK
Khumbu region is justifiably the most famous of all the trekking and mountain regions. Populated by the Sherpas, the main attraction of this area are the majestic mountains, the high mountain villages, charming monasteries and the congenial people. Everest kalaphattar area includes the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest (8,848 m.) and many peaks of altitudes of 8000 m. and above, such as Lhotse, Cho Oyo and Makalu. Khumbu region section is less crowded as most people fly to Lukla and walk only the high-altitude portion of the route. The trek from Jiri involves a tremendous amount of up-and-down walking.
Even though the trek begins at an elevation of 1860 m, on the sixth day it crosses the Dudh Kosi at only 1500 m after considerable uphill and downhill walking. The Everest trek is not only famous for its proximity to the world's highest mountain (8848 m.) but also for its friendly Sherpa people, picturesque villages, great variety of cultures and traditions, colorful festivals and monasteries. The flora and fauna are other ornaments of the Sagarmatha National Park. The story of the yeti, which is still a mystery in the world, is also from the Khumbu region.
