It is to be borne in mind (and I speak here for the non-technical reader) that, as indicated in the above reference, the distinction and important part of the invention of Gutenberg was, not the production of a press for the multiplication of impressions, but the use of movable type and the preparation of the form from which the impressions were struck off. The art of printing from blocks, since classified as xylographic printing, had been practised in certain quarters of Europe for fifty years or more before the time of Gutenberg, and if Europe had had communication with China, xylography might have been introduced four or five centuries earlier.

Why Was Western Printing Superior to Asian Printing?
Movable type was not invented by Gutenberg but in China and later advanced in Korea, so why didn't Asia have a printing revolution?
by Erik Engheim
Tumblr media
We like to think of Johannes Gutenberg as inventor of the printing press and movable type in 1450. Yet, the first movable type got invented in China around 1040 by Bi Sheng. The types were made from porcelain material. Later wooden movable types were developed by Wang Zhen around 1297. Koreans evolved the movable type technology further. In 1234 the first books known to have been printed using metallic types was published in Korea. It happened during the Goryeo Dynasty.
So, why are we giving Gutenberg all the credit for inventing printing? Because Gutenberg served the same role for printing as James Watt did for the steam engine. Neither of the men were the original inventors of the concept, but they made improvements so radical that they made the technology transformational.

Software tools and tips from and for professionals featured in this issue. There was also an article about the latest iteration of the Newton, the MessagePad 2000, called “at long last, a Newton we can recommend with a clear conscience.” Although it was more expensive than a US Robotics Pilot or even a Windows CE palmtop, the article was willing to propose some could use it in place of a PowerBook.

Review: "Observations on the Mystery of Print" by Hendrik Willem van Loon -
Van Loon succeeds in not only offering a concise history of ancient printing and invention, but usurping most of our mythology around Joann Gutenberg. An illuminating short read from 1937 that openly declares that it is not anti-German.

Wonderful Things That May or May Not Be Wonderful!!! The printing press could be called one of the most important inventions in the history of history. I mean books are pretty important too. Being able to write things down on a thin sheet of cellulose in order to be stored, shared, and savored is great. Problem is all that writing. I mean, you do all that scribery to make one book and then you have to do it all over again if someone wants to read the same book at the same time. Not very accessible. But that all changed with the invention of movable type via the Chinese and then the Printing Press via one German inventor. Now, it was much easier to mass produce any kind of book. Religious texts were the big sellers to start but works of fiction, political manuscripts, informative pamphlets, cookbooks, "adult" reading material, all were made more readily available to the general public and that changes a lot. Information can travel more freely. More people were incentivized to learn how to read. Businesses like writing and reporting could now be profitable. The sky (plus the amount of paper and ink one possessed) was the limit and it is all thanks to this wonderful invention! Now, go out there and read more text!

I tried to convince the lady at the book printing press festival let me print, "Ronald Reagan's grave is a gender neutral bathroom" on the movable type printer. She said no unfortunately due to the festival she couldn't change it.
I complained about it to the sewing circle I found at the library and the librarian in charge said they have a movable type press in the basement I might be able to use.
I will be bringing my cross stitch to the library next meeting day.

Gonna post about our iterator OC now. Fun fact: Unit of Radioactive Decay's umbilical arm has significantly less range of motion than other iterator models, including other iterator models from their generation!
It prioritizes delivery of water and nutrients to their puppet over movement, which makes it a good bit clunkier than other arms - almost all of the joints in there can only bend one way, and the few that don't are only two-way, unlike an arm like Pebbles that more or less lets him bend however the fuck he wants.
In general, they tend to prioritize having parts that are easily maintained or replaced over anything else - kind of a necessity for them, but some of the people who originally dreamed them up would have an utter heart attack over the sheer number of substitutions present in their structure by now.

The plug is a male connector, often with protruding pins that match the openings and female contacts in a socket. plug is suitable for India? For India there are three associated plug types, types C, D and M. Plug type C is the plug which has two round pins, plug type D is the plug which has three round pins in a triangular pattern and plug type M is the plug which also has three round pins. India operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz.add a 6 pin power supply?Image resultLocate the 6–pin auxiliary power supply cable with the connector labeled To GFX Card or Splitter and release the cable from the cable retainer. If the splitter cable is attached to the connector, remove and retain the splitter. Attach the 6–pin connector on the adapter cable to the 6–pin power supply cable.6 pin used for?6-pin power connectors are typically found in low and mid-range graphics cards. The 6-pin power connector has 4.2mm pitch and can pull up to 75 watts of power directly from an external power supply, bypassing the motherboard entirely.6 amp socket used for?6/16A and 25A ratings. They are used for connecting geysers, AC, Room heaters , Kitchen appliances and water pumpsCan we use 16A plug in 6A socket?Yes it is safe to use a 16 amp plug on a 6 amp socket provided you will never draw more than 6Amp out of it, and it is very unsafe if you forgot this rule and accidently loaded it with a resistive load over > 6 Amp.convert 6A socket to 16A?Image resultThe package contains 1pc Conversion Plug(6A-16A) KAVANA (6-16A)Converter plug is used to Convert Regular Home Sockets of 6 amp to 16amp Outlets so that one can attach 16A Big Size Plugs to the Small home Sockets. Its applications include powering of 16A loads or International Plug Tops from various countries 6 pin connector called? The '6-PIN bayonet connection' is also called a '6-pin plug'. You will find this connection mainly on Fristom lights. The connector looks very much like the much used Aspöck variant with 5-PINs or 7-PINs.
