SUBLIME CINEMA #389 - REPO MAN
Robby Muller was one of the best cinematographers in history, and his heightened aesthetic adorned the films so many great directors from Wim Wenders to William Friedkin, Jim Jarmusch and Lars von Trier. Repo Man is a classic in no small part thanks to the grim LA atmosphere and light-scarred look of his photography.

when will the entertainment industry learn ..... live action does not have to be the Final Form ..... books, animated shows/movies, live stage productions, etc etc are full art forms and stories on their own ..... they r not blueprints for shitty live action adaptations .....

Nicky, probably, at some point in time when historians would interpret that Joe’s love poems to him were actually towards a woman or towards Nicky in a “just good friends” way:

Now that that Dear Evan Hansen movie trailer is out I am gently (very much threatening) telling you guys that Colton Ryan does NOT deserve your fucking slander for not being Mike Faist and it’s not his fault. He’s an original DEH cast member and has played Connor on broadway multiple times. Get OUT of here if you’re going to slander that man. He’s a brilliant singer and actor and I WILL come for your throats

“well yeah that’s the OBVIOUS response but seriously, think about it on a deeper level. why can’t we root for flawed women as a society? why are female leads not allowed to be villain protagists? where are our likable and sympathetic antagonists who are women?”
“no dude seriously i feel you and think that’s a completely valid point about a very real and interesting issue and if we were talking about ANYTHING else i would be so on board with you right now. but like. again, she DOES kill and skin puppies so she can make them into fur coats”

SUBLIME CINEMA #403 - IKIRU
Ikiru is one of the great triumphs of Japanese cinema, one of Kurosawa’s best films that is full of empathy and profound universal feeling. The story is a simple one, of a bureaucrat who discovers he doesn’t have long to live, and is left with the realization that he has never actually really lived. More Douglas Sirk than Bergman, this is a movie that and wears its emotions on its sleeve, but does so with such careful modulation; we are constantly distanced between the man’s feelings and the rest of his small world, the repression of his emotions and internal suffering are portrayed in such a way that we can’t help but feel it too.
This is one of the most moving films I’ve ever seen.

anyway the end of fellowship of the ring is entirely about broken oaths: the fellowship itself, aragorn's "i would've gone with you until the end, until the very fires of mordor" to frodo, boromir's betrayal and his own i would have followed you moment as he dies in aragorn's arms....and that's why sam, soaking wet and crying, going "i made a promise. im not going to leave you" can be cited as the clinical reason why this is a Comfort Movie
