Hey, question for all those disturbed minds that watched Saltburn, I watched it with my mom (I know, terrible decision) and we were discussing this. Through the whole film we see Felix do stuff so that people make things turn out his way, Venetia describes him as manipulative and says he constantly does the same thing he does with Oliver to his other friends, some of his actions towards Oliver can even seem flirtatious which obviously allowed Felix to manipulate him, but he always acts oblivious and appears as a naive spoiled kid. Do you believe he was actually a manipulative mastermind or a poor devil that got played by Oliver.

Hi! I want to watch more films and well you are kinda the person to ask! So how do you find the time to watch so many films? How do you come up with what to watch and where/how do you tend to watch them?
And any other tips and tricks?
Oh boy, this is a slightly tricky question? But to start— loving movies is a full-on hobby that I make time for, including researching and learning a lot about film history, meta analysis and other things I have shelves of books about.
For one, I’ve used the tv as background noise while doing other things since roughly middle school— so it’s very common for me to watch a movie during breakfast and dinner, and do multiple movies during days off that I’m working on some kind of project. It’s a whole “if I’m not doing two things at once I can’t pay attention to either” situation. (And when I was doing 45-60 hours a week of drawing homework in college and still could find the pirating websites I can’t use anymore I watched so many movies).
I am very much a horror nerd. And in general, the horror community can be like being part of a club and being able to know director filmographies and intricacies of subgenres is part of that community— and since a lot of the actors and directors and effects people worked together in this kind of weird expanding web it makes exploring the genre kind of like a game (like I like The Thing and oh Rob Bottin worked on The Howling too and learned the craft from Rick Baker who was the first to get an Oscar for special effects makeup while working on An American Werewolf in London that John Landis directed but he also did the vampire movie Innocent Blood like ten years later and—). There’s a reason my Letterboxd watchlist never seems to dip below 600 even watching at least once movie every day.
I use Shudder a lot, but also Prime, Hulu and Tubi, and occasionally there’s stuff free on YouTube. I also hoard a lot of physical media. Since I’ve recently given up on Netflix I’ve been finding bootleg Blu-ray’s on eBay, because relying on internet when I’ve had many years of bad Wi-Fi and also a deep love of special features and commentary means physical media is something important to me (there’s a whole thing about preserving history outside of the internet’s ability to make things disappear but that’s a whole other conversation)
Tumblr media
(This is about 8’x5’)
Like I can have whole long diatribes about movies, because it’s a thing I get really into— I did rope one of my friends into a whole thing explaining the moral and existential concepts in Saw and Hostel II and the way to make PG-13 horror films function successfully and why 2000s horror in relation to American political landscape was Like That for almost an hour yesterday— which is why giving advice for new or casual watchers is tricky for me 😅
Anyway I have no clue if any of that was helpful but good luck!

Just for fun, what’s a movie you feel that was either ahead of its time or would’ve been appreciated more if it came out a few years later?
I’m asking because I just watched “Fifth Element” for the first time and I’m convinced that if the movie was released today, audiences wouldn’t be as turned off from its ‘overblown’ style. I feel that current audiences are much more accepting of movies that are extremely campy and outrageous, especially since anime and superheroes are now more accepted in the mainstream.
Another one could be “Starship Troopers”. I feel that present-day audiences would catch on the movie’s obvious satirical take of fascism much faster due to the current political climate. Maybe this is just me, but when I first saw this movie, I just thought it was soldiers shooting monsters (I was in elementary school at the time). I only learned that it was a satire afterwards when I read about the making of the movie. Nowadays, thanks to social media, I’ll hear about an upcoming movie’s supposed political stances before I even watch it. I just feel that if “Starship Troopers” was released today, it’d be review-bombed weeks before its release due to how ‘woke’ it is, as well as praised for its sharp satirical take of the military industrial complex. Which I think the director would be fine with since that’s in line with his vision of the movie in the first place.
Anyways, sorry for the long tangent. What do y’all feel were movies that were ahead of their time?

Ok y’all I’m dumb, in the movie ‘to the bone’ what are they talking about when they said
‘She refused to chew’
‘Ew, I chew’
Does that just mean not eating anything at all or what 😭

Clue Question
Spoilers
Was Mr. Green actually gay?
*He said he had to keep it secret because of his gov't job
*he told them he had a wife only when the police came in, to shut them up from saying that he's gay (even if it was a lie he wouldn't have wanted the rumor to be floating around, so this doesn't support anything)
*Mr Boddy didn't act weird about him being there or act like he didn't recognize him, which means he was one of the blackmailees
*in most cases blackmail requires photos, for claims like that, which means that Mr. Green would've had to fake it if it wasn't true, wouldn't he? But no one would be able to say whether or not they were real in that case
*he volunteered to say what his blackmail is, so perhaps the real thing he was being blackmailed for is different. Following Mr. Boddy's apparent desire to shame them all for crimes, I feel like cheating on one's wife with a man is ranked higher than simply being gay. Mr. Green said he feels no shame (about being gay) but I think for cheating he really should, and why else would he volunteer for a lesser crime if he didn't feel ashamed?
*Wadsworth had the blackmail list though so he presumably would know if the man was confessing to a different crime than what he was being blackmailed on
*unless Mr. Green was in cahoots with Mr. Boddy, but why would that make sense?
Just a bit confused on that is all. My other question was simply how Scarlett could be blackmailed for doing her job..? And does her job really pay enough to cover the costs of blackmail?
I assume the film really was just trying to say that he was straight, but the deal with the blackmailing is just throwing me off. If it weren't for that, I would definitely think he is
Not to mention he chose the one crime that would make people leave him alone (and keep them from noticing what he was up to or where he was) and make him seem inconsequential and harmless, so they wouldn't be keeping an eye on him out of fear either

So here’s my question:
How exactly is the bookseller in Beauty and the Beast staying in business? The movie gives the impression that most of the town thinks spending your time readying is odd and weird, and he seemingly lends Belle all her books.
How does that work?

Hello! Would you post some photos of your physical media library?
Also how did you start and what would you like to tell people who are about to start actually creating a physical media library, since all the streaming services are going mad?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My movie wall is about 8’ long and 5’ tall, and I’ve been collecting for like… 14 years? I dunno, I just buy movies off eBay, Amazon, from local used media exchange places, wherever I can. Mostly aim for movies I’m fairly sure I’ll watch a minimum of three times and/or can lend to others. My taste is varied, kind of weird, a little obnoxious, and movies I’m fond of I love seeing commentaries, behind the scenes, whatever. I had to get a region-free player since several movies I have aren’t otherwise available in the US (pretty easy to find refurbished off eBay).

I have a second, smaller shelf with multipacks/box sets so that I don’t screw up the alphabetical set up of the main wall and can accommodate for odd sizes— plus the little shelf is what I started with when I first started collecting in high school.

1, 3, and 9 for the movie asks!
1. What is your current favourite film?
My all time favourite movie is Fight Club, but I haven't seen it in a while so I'll say Saltburn! At least that's what I've been thinking about a lot lately. Best movie of 2023 haha
3. What is a film you absolutely despise and why?
Oh there's so many. I'm such a hater. But if I have to say just one, Oldboy (2003) Yes, Oldboy directed by Park Chan-Wook. I just couldn't get into the story, the characters were all bad and the plot twist was just disgusting, but not in a good way which would've made me like it...women were treated like shit in it and it was uncomfortable as hell. I struggled to find a few good things about it because I always have to when I watch something, but some good visuals don't save a movie!!! I wish I could explain my opinions better but yeah, filmbros are gonna attack me so let's fight 🤺
9. What was the last film you watched and what did you think of it?
School started for me again so I haven't watched a new film since Sunday!!! I watched Star Wars episode II Attack Of The Clones and it was simply just fine. Not the best Star Wars but I enjoyed! I miss my favourite boy Luke Skywalker tho cuz Anakin annoys me 💔
(After Star Wars I also watched Wham! documentary so if that counts as a movie...it's perfect. 5 stars. Best documentary ever.)
Thanks for asking!
