AU where, not only is he real, the mage tried to extort him for information once, and simon was placed in a permanent position on the naughty-list for abetting him. he didn’t really get christmas presents to begin with, but once you swing a halberd at father christmas it’s hard to get back off of his radar

and after the events of the later books, and years of telling baz and lady ruth not to hang up a stocking for him because he always got coal anyway, he finally comes down one morning to find a wrapped box on the coffee-table

You ever think that in an alternate Carry On reality, Lucy would've left Davy and raised Simon as a single mum. Mitali and Lucy would stay friends which would mean Penny and Simon would've been childhood friends. Maybe Lucy would join Lady Ruth and go to Mrs Wellbelove's parties and maybe Agatha and Simon would've been childhood friends. Baz would've grown up with a mum and maybe Simon wouldn't think he's always plotting. I think Lucy would've tried to befriend Natasha because the crucible casted their sons together. And maybe, just maybe, Mitali would still have Lucy.

With the release of RWRB’s movie premier date, here are some of my crackish predictions about the worst way CO could be adopted into a movie:

They combine Agatha and Penny’s character and make her white, but Dev and Niall stay separate characters (also both white)

Fiona is played by an actress younger than Baz

Baz’s widow’s peak has to be CGI’ed in

Simon’s hair is blonde and not curly

Simon gets wings but no tail

The Mage is played by Daniel Craig and Colin Firth plays Malcolm and Christina never sleeps again because she’s too busy writing malmage for the rest of her life

Lucy’s ghost isn’t included

They never mention Professor Minos; a tragedy

No fireplace kiss

They combine Mitali and Mrs Wellbelove’s characters and never explain it even though they’re married to two different men

In fact they add in an original male character with no plot relevance, who is also white

Happy Wednesday, friends! Thanks for the tags @blackberrysummerblog @hushed-chorus and @wellbelesbian!

I've been continuing to spend most of my writing time on ADA and editing/contemplating/touching up thereof. Which is not to say that I've been completely ignoring Simon's Mums AU. I am drilling deeper and deeper into that world, and it's a fascinating place to be. Enjoy some more of one of the mums' first glimpses into the WOM:

The magical government of the UK is called The Coven. (Truly, their naming choices are doing half the work of keeping their existence a secret. Anyone I told would laugh me out of town.) And conducts its business out of a comfortable suburban estate. And it's not even a clever disguise for the home of the houses of parliament—the housekeeper, tells us that the lady of the house, Mrs. Wellbelove, and her daughter Agatha are in the solarium and will be happy to have Simon join them. Agatha Wellbelove seems identical to every well turned out girl in Simon's class until the moment she sees him and runs over to pull him into whatever youthful misadventure she's pretending amongst the nasturtiums. At which point Nat lets out a scarcely-contained sob and I feel my heart stutter-step out of its typical tense dance. Not since infancy has anyone ever enthusiastically approached Simon. Children shy away from him on the playground, classmates shove at him in line. Teachers pass him over for instruction, and store clerks pretend not to see him over their counters. Even Simon, usually stoic in new situations, is taken aback by Agatha's enthusiasm. He glances back at Nat, who props an encouraging smile below her teary eyes and waves him onward.

I also wrote a very self indulgent director's commentary on the first chapter of Good at Something yesterday, so if you're of age, go ahead and read all my thoughts on this piece of smut I wrote. (And if you liked this -- more to come. I liked writing a loose meta on this chapter and will do at least one more, if not one for every chapter. I've been meaning to write a Good at Something meta for ages.)

The Prince of Wales, Joint Patron, the Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, today undertook the following engagements to launch the “Homewards” Programme.

His Royal Highness this morning visited Mosaic Clubhouse, 65 Effra Road, London SW2, and was received by Mr Christopher Wellbelove (Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London).

The Prince of Wales this afternoon visited St John’s Church Hall, Surrey Road, Poole, and was received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset (Mr Angus Campbell).

His Royal Highness later visited Maindee Primary School, Rodney Road, Newport, Monmouthshire, and was received by Professor Simon Gibson (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Gwent).

The Prince of Wales subsequently visited a housing development at Hill Street Car Park, 17 Park Square, Newport.

I'm rereading awtwb for the 13627th time and noticed how at the beginning when Simon is at the Wellbeloves and takes off his coat, revealing his wings Mrs. Wellbelove is "appalled" when she sees them and then later at Lady Ruth's she asks to see them and calls them "splendid" and "tremendous", something something the Wellbeloves only liking him on a surface level bc they think he's the Chosen One and Lady Ruth liking and accepting him for who he is underneath even before she knew he was her grandson

Who Really Was The Man Teaching Your Children? The Mage Behind The Costume

The Watford Gazette

~ News for Mages of all ages and stages ~

(A/N: this is part seven little mini project I did of turning the events of Carry On into newspaper articles)

In a shocking turn of events, The Mage was found dead. The goatherd Ebeneza Petty was also found dead at the scene along with three of Watford's students Tyrannus Basilton Grimm-Pitch, Penelope Bunce, and Simon Snow, thankfully all the students are alive.

But what were they doing there in the first place? Another student came forward after the scene was made safe, Agatha Wellbelove, daughter of Dr. Wellbelove and Mrs. Wellbelove. All four of their testimonies give us a very detailed picture of David Cadwallader, not The Mage, not the man we knew but the true face behind the mask.

If he were alive he would be charged with several crimes including kidnapping, attempted murder, murder, contact with vampires, attempted extortion, and possibly much more that we don't know about.

According to the testimonies and other sources Cadwallader is the reason for the young Mr. Pitch's late return to Watford this year. He hired several Numpties to kidnap the 17-year-old at the tennis club in an attempt to prevent his mother from visiting him when the veil lifted and telling him about her murder which brings us to his next crime.

The Watford Tragedy has finally been solved 12 years later. It was David Cadwallader who let the vampires into Watford on that fateful day.

He is also guilty of extortion and attempted extortion. He attempted to murder Agatha Wellbelove for her Magick but was stopped by Ebeneza Petty a powerful wizard who worked as the goatherd on the Watford school grounds, he then killed her for her Magick and attempted to forcefully siphon Simon's Magick.

Here are excerpts from the testimonies:

Penelope Bunce: It all started when Baz's mum came back to tell us to find her killer. We began the search following the clues and that led us back to Watford. But first I'll tell you that Baz and I came up with a theory about The Humdrum being like an echo of Simon. I've never said this to anyone but The Humdrum looks like Simon, 11 years old, in a ratty t-shirt and grotty old jeans bouncing a red ball just like the first time he went off when he was 11. This isn't the first time I've seen him, the first time was when he summoned us all the way to Lancashire but I suspect The Mage kept that hush hush as well. Anyway, The Humdrum is like an echo of Simon, an aftermath to all the Magick he used. His power wasn't coming from nowhere; he was drawing it straight from the Magical atmosphere. Not on purpose of course not, he had no idea and neither did we until we started digging around. And when he kept drawing from the Magickal atmosphere he eventually wore it down, hence the Dead Spots. Now please don't worry about Simon and don't punish him, he doesn't have any Magick left, he's not a danger to anyone anymore.

Tyrannus Basilton Grimm-Pitch: Simon doesn't have Magick anymore, it's gone and it isn't going to come back, I don't think. He gave it up, by choice, to save us. Penny must have told you about our theory. [Yes] Good. The Humdrum is like an empty hole, I thought it wanted to get bigger but I was wrong. Simon was right. He said it wanted to be filled, so that's what he did, he filled it. He filled it right up to the brim. He gave all of his Magick to fill the void that was The Humdrum. When he did, The Humdrum disappeared. I don't know whether he's really gone, but I think he is because I can't feel him anymore. I don't know if the holes in the magickal atmosphere will ever heal but I at least think they won't get bigger now that Simon's done this. I'd hate for his sacrifice to be in vain.

Simon Snow: I'm honestly not really sure what happened, so much was going on. I remember The Mage trying to take my Magick and I was so confused. I saw Ebb dead and then The Humdrum was there and then before The Mage could take my Magick I poured it out and dumped it all into him, into The Humdrum. Then he ran away and I couldn't feel him anymore, couldn't feel anything anymore. I was going to collapse but then Penny sent me some of her Magick and I was able to stay upright but now that it's worn off I can't feel any Magick it's gone. I don't know what to do now that I'm not a Mage. I knew I was never supposed to be the chosen one, I knew I was never right to be the chosen one but I always was and now that I'm not I don't know what I am. I am glad though that now I can't use Magick and risk endangering everyone. So it's good in that way.

Now that The Mage is dead we will once again be finding a replacement for a fallen Mage. For many, the Msge can't have fallen from a grace he was never in. And now that The Humdrum is gone, we can focus on what the English Magickal Community really wants and maybe we'll finally have a successful leader again. With The Humdrum gone, what do we want? We shall have to choose carefully this time.

1 JUNE - William attended the Senior Colonels' Conference and Dinner at Clarence House.

2 JUNE - William took part in The Queen's Birthday Parade on Horse Guards Parade along with other members of the Royal Family at which The Queen's Colour of the 1st Battalion Irish Guards was trooped. On the conclusion of the Parade, they rode back to Buckingham Palace where he appeared on the Balcony along with Catherine and their children to witness a fly-past marking the Queen’s official Birthday. In the evening, William was present at the lighting of the National Beacon at Buckingham Palace to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee.

3 JUNE - William and Catherine attended the National Service of Thanksgiving for Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee in St. Paul's Cathedral. After the Service, they a attended Reception at Guildhall given by the Rt. Hon. the Lord Mayor and the City of London Corporation.

4 JUNE - William and Catherine along with George and Charlotte visited Cardiff Castle where were received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of South Glamorgan (Mrs. Morfudd Meredith). Later they attended the Platinum Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace.

5 JUNE - William and Catherine attended the Platinum Jubilee Street Party at Kensington before attending the Platinum Jubilee Pageant in the Mall. They later appeared on the Buckingham Palace Balcony along with their three children.

7 JUNE - William held an Investiture at Buckingham Palace on The Queen's behalf.

8 JUNE - William was spotted selling the Big Issue Magazine in London.

13 JUNE - William and Catherine attended the Order of The Garter Service at St. George's Chapel in Windsor.

14 JUNE - William attended a Duchy of Cornwall Meeting at 10 Buckingham Gate. Afterwards, he attended the Grenfell Tower Five Year Memorial Service along with Catherine.

15 JUNE - William visited the Lionesses team at St. George's Park ahead of the European Championship where he was received by Mr. James Leavesley (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Staffordshire).

16 JUNE - He held a United for Wildlife Meeting at Kensington Palace.

17 JUNE - William and Catherine attended Day Four of Royal Ascot.

19 JUNE - Kensington Palace released a new photograph for Father's Day featuring William with his three children.

21 JUNE - A special issue of the Big Isuue magazine was released to mark William's 40th Birthday. Subsequently they were received by Mrs. Caroline Bewes (Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire) at Jimmy's Cambridge. Later Williama and Catherine spent their time at the first-ever Cambridgeshire County Day at Newmarket July Course.

Just spotted BAZ around town. Our records show that they remember [ everything ] from their source : the simon snow trilogy. They were first spotted in november 2020 and our best guess is that their last memory is playing violin for simon snow. Archivists watching them state that they still have the sallow skin, sneering lips, masochistic, dark academia vibe about them.

ARMES: and what is the last thing you remember from your home?

I was with my boyfriend. In our room together.

ARMES: right, i believe that is enough. i only asked because we have a history of memory loss in town. do you feel as though you have any blanks in your memories?

No. Frightfully, I remember everything about my life. Messy details and all.

ARMES: how long have you been in town?

I feel like you should know that as you’ve been badgering me for an interview since I arrived. I showed up this month.

ARMES: and are you feeling settled? have you found a job?

Don’t worry, I’m a good hardworking citizen who pays his bills and provides for the community.

[there is more silence on the tape, then armes clears her throat and continues]

ARMES: what, do you think, was the strangest thing you saw before arriving in this town?

I’m not allowed to say.

ARMES: i think you’ll find that this town is quite impressive, and you can say. i am going to guess it has something to do with magic. the magical kind are always tight lipped.

ARMES: i won’t push, but if you are being this way - do you believe in the supernatural or mythical?

[there’s a laugh, though it’s tight and cold] you can say that. If this town is magic, I’ll be just fine.

ARMES: what kind of traits would your friends or family give you?

Athletic, drop dead gorgeous, fashionable, cool and collected, the smartest person in our graduating class, charming -

ARMES: i get the idea. is there anything else you would like to say?

Basilton Grimm-Pitch appears to be from a Young Adult, Fantasy, Queer series by the author Rainbow Rowell. Far from the most popular or well known character who has arrived in town. He is one of the three main characters from the series, and known to be both a Mage (wizard/magician/etc) and a Vampire. The Vampire bit seems to be taboo in their world, especially when combined with being a Mage.

They are known to be in love with one Simon Snow Salisbury (savor of the Mages) and friends with Penelope Bunce, Shepard Love, Agatha Wellbelove, Dev (no surname), and Niall (no surname).

From research it seems that he is prickly and cold to most strangers, though well mannered due to how he was raised. Distant but polite seems to be his go-to, but in instances like this interview he can be seen as sarcastic and disruptive. He has some history of violence, though none seems to be un-provoked.

Happy Wednesday! It's open windows season in my corner of the world, and I cannot get enough of the crisp spring air and birds singing outside my windows. And my younger child shouting "It's an airplane!" every time a plane flies overhead (this happens frequently. We live 3 miles from an airport).

Thanks for tagging me @blackberrysummerblog and @rimeswithpurple!! Quiet around here this week :)

I've been shoving some new scenes into the final chapters of ADA, editing ADA, talking with @petedavidsonscock about writing an OMGCP fic together (EXCITED ABOUT THIS), as well as writing meta on Good at Something and noodling on Simon's Two Mums. Which is to say: I have more WIPs on the go than I have had for more than five years. I know this is like, an unfathomably small number of WIPs for most people, but for me it's a lot! (I also have minimum 3 more ideas for dangerverse floating around. Anyway. Uh, ignore those.)

So listen, both of Simon's mums are me. Don't act so surprised. But I am so deeply in love with the character I've created for Simon's barrister mum. She's badass and I want to have her kick some ass for me, if she has a spare moment. A snippet of Zadie Stephenson below. (Bow before her.)

"Ah, Ms. Stephenson, Ms. Shaw, I was just telling Mr. Wellbelove and Mr. Grimm about your situation," Cadwallader says, and every face in the room swings to look at us, save one of the men talking to Cadwallader, who turns at a more stoic pace, face masked with grave indifference. Aside from the three men, there's an elderly couple sitting in two adjacent padded chairs, they look but don't move to approach us. Cadwallader waves us towards him, and the stoic man's face gives the impression of an eye roll, even though his eyes are locked on us. I zero in on the stoic man before we can be introduced. "Zadie Stephenson," I say, reaching aggressively for a handshake. It seems to startle him into reaching back, and his shake is as firm as mine. "Malcom Grimm."
