You know we Lowkey joke about how some things people say in the books are kinda gaslighty but Chiron and Grover legitimately did gaslight Percy in book one about Mrs. Dodds.
They looked at this kid who was shaking and scared and confused after a monster attack and went "Mrs. Dodds? Who? You feeling okay? I think you're imagining things".

Kinda funny that, in the show, they accidentally set the precedent of Percy passing out when he fights monsters. Like imagine knowing nothing about the books and watching the Mrs. Dodds “fight” and the Minotaur fight and being like “how do half-bloods survive if they pass out every time they fight one monster??” Lmao

For my Poseidon helps Sally raise Percy AU I cant decide if I want Hades to try calling his nephew to see if he stole his helm of darkness, or if I just want him send Alecto after him to retrieve it. Both options can be equally comedic. In the first option Hades calls Percy a few times, but he receives no reply since Percy is busy and in school. He then tries to text Percy asking to call him back, but Percy who is again busy leaves him on read. Hades interpreters this as guilt and he asks Alecto to retrieve his helm of darkness from his nephew.
In the second option Hades does not call his nephew to ask if he stole his helm of darkness and he just sends Alecto after him. When Percy gets to the underworld he’s pissed, and he calls his uncle out saying, ‘you’ve could have just called me and asked if I took your stupid helmet.” Which yeah Hades could’ve but he ended up being extra instead.

So when I read the Percy Jackson books about a year ago for the first time, one of things I loved the most was how the gods, goddesses, and other mythical beings were portrayed. They seemed human-like when they were first introduced but as Percy and the other characters interacted with them, there was something not quite human about them. They often subtly, or not-so-subtly, showed themselves to be prideful, manipulative, and unsympathetic to the demi-gods.
I was really curious how the actors in the show would play these ancient mythical beings and they did not disappoint so far. Dionysus instantly tries to emotionally manipulate Percy to get him wine and can't understand why Sally Jackson's life matters to Percy because to him, she's only a mortal so she doesn't matter. He lacks human connection and empathy because he's a god.
Alecto, Medusa, and Echidna all have this unearthly presence. The trio can tell that something is not quite right about them but it is not until they start interacting with them more that they realize what it is. There's something hypnotic about them and their presence instantly unsettles you and draws you into the story unfolding on the screen.
I'm so excited to see how the other gods, goddesses, and monsters are portrayed as the season continues.

really curious as to the mist covered up mrs dodds’ attack in real time. like obviously anyone who saw it probably forgot immediately after, but while it was happening did they just see some lady with a weird jacket kneeling over a kid who hit her with a stick. like what

PJO SPOILERS!!!
Am I the only one who thinks some people are being a little harsh on Grover for "snitching" on Percy in Episode 1? I see some people saying Grover's character has been "ruined" by having him "betray" Percy and I'm just over here thinking that gaslighting your best friend for literal MONTHS on end is just as much, if not a worse betrayal then snitching on said friend in order to get them out of the danger zone immediately. Either way you look at it, Grover betrayed Percy in both versions, and honestly I think Grover's snitching was the kinder route to take; at least Percy wasn't questioning his own sanity for months, but a few hours.
And another thing too is that I'm kind of glad their friendship seems a little tense right now in the show, since I felt like in the book, Percy just sort of brushes off being literally lied to and gaslit by Grover for months. Don't get me wrong, I adore their friendship so much but it always kind of bothered me that they never really TALKED about the gaslighting period and how alone that made Percy feel to have even his best friend say everything that happened was all in his head. I don't know, I always just wanted there to be a scene where they actually talked about it and reconcile. So I'm hoping that since the show seems to be putting tension between Percy and Grover right now, that we'll hopefully get a moment of closure and reconciliation between them.

i think that there's two sides to the action issue that i'm seeing currently, and they are
the action is realistic, they're 12 year olds, of course the fights are messy and anticlimactic, have you ever seen a sword competently wielded by a literal child
the action is boring, there's not enough stakes, the scenes are over too quickly and there's no tension
and ig i wanted to add my two cents to this conversation. because they both have certain points, but i wanted to explain side 2 to side 1, if that makes sense
for me, the actual actions of the characters are fine. i'm fine with percy killing mrs. dodds by having the pen in his hand suddenly and without warning grow larger. i'm fine with the actual script of most of the action. the problem to me is in the editing and the shot composition.
there's a way to increase stakes or tension in a relatively simple fight. if you take that first action scene with mrs. dodds, and rework it - you might keep the build up, of the fury's wings slowly spreading out as she walks through the crowd, but then a jump, camera follows up, wings outstretched and high in the sky, cut to percy's eyes widening in horror, camera cuts to what he sees (mrs dodds wings tucking in like a falcon into a dive) and impact shot, percy gives a short cut off scream, cut to hand shaking, maybe the cap nervously getting pushed off, maybe the fury jostling percy's hand, swoosh, pen extends, mrs dodds looks down, shrieks as she starts disintegrating.
(please showrunners let your characters scream in fights. clarisse was the only scream i heard on screen. let the trio scream, let the bystanders scream, pleeeease)
if you edit even small moments well, then there's much more tension, there's much more impact - hell, 90% of fanmade edits have more tension by remixing some of the action scenes from the show
all this to say, i think the showrunners are still getting used to this new medium???? or getting used to adapting an entirely textual work? or getting used to working with kids doing action?? i really don't know but i hope that they learn to work with the cgi and editing teams to give these scenes the tension they deserve
