Really think that a much better plot would be for Ana to actually start a relationship with the woman she met in the bar because she genuinely liked her and was atracted to her, but ultimately ended things because she was in love with Mariana than that "I'm not actually a lesbian I just love one women" bullshit (bonus points if it made Mariana jealous). But that's just me

SPOILERS: MY WINE-FUELED S3 RECAP OF MSHD
You know... I was looking forward to this final season for 12 months. Almost sure that they would end up together because of the promo materials and natural telenovela-esque story arcs (although, let’s be honest, as LB+ watchers we can never be to sure about a happy ending). But, despite my endgame coming true, this season felt deeply underwhelming. After episode 5 the series completely lacked any affection and close scenes between Mariana and Ana, especially on Mariana’s part. Suddenly the episodes solely focused on them in relation to the babies - and on all the other couples. And, with the ending we got, it just felt so underserved. We didn’t truly see Mariana’s realization that she might have been wrong about “being confused”. The break-up with Ferrán came completely out of left field (a bit of a deus ex machina, if you ask me because without him having a kid, she might have even stayed with him, despite his unreliableness and aversion for children in his space/home). We didn’t get a conversation between Ana and Mariana that went beyond the kids’ well-being, their businesses and “by the way I love you”. We didn’t actually see them reconnect and share a space beyond quick pecks. And even the rest of the plotlines... these characters all had so much potential. Instead, we got redundant, repetitive, almost circular stories. I mean...how often can a couple break up and get back together because their priorities don’t align (looking at you, Cynthia and Pablo; as well as Fernanda and Juan Carlos). How often can a teenage boy be insecure about a girl (Ro! Yes, and I know... the answer is “quite often, just like girls and any other teenage hormonal person attracted to the female sex” - however, in a concise narrative approach, that emotionally almost identical situation doesn’t need to be shown 2 or 3 times). I think the series lost focus. It’s an ensemble series, but it forgot its core dynamic. And that’s why a season of only 10 episodes somehow ended up feeling too long and tedious. Because there was so much character development and potential that was just skipped over in favor of repetitive plots. That hunger and physical closeness as well as emotional intimacy we saw in the kiss between Mariana and Ana in the S2 finale was never shown again. Same with Mariana’s tenderness and hope when it came to Ana in S1. And Ana’s love confession involving bikes felt a bit public and cringy. Maybe because we skipped all the potential close and confusing situations/tropes that would have come with “fake dating” not to mention the true emotional repercussions that would have come after that and after sleeping together. Maybe because they rarely had any scenes just the two of them, where they talked about anything but work and the children. Which means: I’m happy about the end game, but narratively I am far from satisfied. Aaaaaaand with that I end my first official tumblr post/ tv rant. Thank you all - which is probably 2 people, if I’m lucky - for reading this far.

Oh my goodness, I can't believe I finished Madre solo hay dos. New personal record, but now I gotta wait for everyone to talk about it.
I laughed, I cried, I felt seen,... I can't believe it finally happened. I cannot believe this show exists. 🥹 It's like watching something that played out in your mind, and not quite believing it's really on your screen. 👩‍👩‍👧‍👧 🏳️‍🌈
-----
...but is it just me or did it all feel like a bit of anti-climax in the end? I can't tell if my expectations were too high and it's not like I'm not happy... but it felt like in the second half, the focus shifted to all the other relationships, the development of their relationship didn't make as much sense - Mariana needed to be more active, I think. And then the final confirmation of love was very tame. I like the intimacy of hugs and the message that they're partners, but after so much angst, I was expecting something more passionate. And then... it was as if they almost wanted to distract us from them by focusing more on the straight couple.
Maybe I'm just overly sensitive or maybe I was expecting too much, but after an amazing first half, it almost felt like they were trying to make us forget a little that they went there.
And lastly, lesbian is not a dirty word and it doesn't make your character unrelatable. Ana as a repressed lesbian would've made more sense to me than what we got...

I'm still so mad that we got the maryana endgame but their relationship was developed so poorly this season that I can't fully be happy about it. I gave up bringing this up on twitter because people have complained I'm being negative about a show focused on love between two women, but by God I'm mad and nothing will change that.
We didn't get a single scene of Mariana demonstrating to be in love with Ana. The fake relationship plot was not completely useless because Ana figured out her feelings, but it did nothing for Mariana.
Would she have ended up with Ferran had he not lied about having a kid? Would maryana still be endgame in this situation? I can't easily answer this because Mariana was simply not shown to be in love with Ana this season. That "I love you too" in the end felt so underwhelming.
Also they could have lost everything lying about their relationship, it could have cost their daughters and their jobs, but Mariana was willing to loose it all because of some dude she barely cried about braking up with later? She cared so little for Ana, whose son was not even speaking to her. And in the end she was so pressed about leaving them for a job. I feel like she could have worked something out to keep the family together (since this was the main theme of the series).
Like I'm happy that a wlw couple finally had a happy ending, but I feel like the writers could have done a much better job developing their story.

Omg look at them!😍 My new favorite picture!! I found a very recent article about season 3 that said:
«the main plot is the lawsuit with which Ana and Mariana are dealing along with their new business, although the feelings they have for each other complicate things for them.» ❤️‍🔥!
and the article said it it will be released 25 december! (god, i hope it’s true!)
i can’t wait much longer! Hoping for a trailer or something before november is over ( if the season is coming out in december, they should release the trailer in november)

Call it lesbian fandom trauma, but I keep looking for more proof, even if this show is very clearly going there. It comes up as one of the first shows when I look for lesbian television on Netflix and they're going to start the next season off with a fake dating AU and they've both confessed their love and I mean, the illustration from the intro above... so yeah. It's happening, but it's probably going to be angsty all the way. Still too many dudes around.

I was rewatching the pilot and my attention was drawn to the fact that the pilot was all about switching the babies, but it was always a little weird to me they didn't let the mothers switch the babies themselves. Then I realized it may be foreshadowing for the other switches that will happen by the end of the show.

Namely Tere & Juan Carlos are shown to be the better couple during their secret meeting after.
Tumblr media
And Ana and Mariana also have their own secret meeting later on.
Also, dearest hispanophone friends, does anyone want to explain all the possible interpretations of the title, cause I think I only half get it...
I asked one of my friends what "Chaira" meant, because the subtitles described it as "raggedy", but it seems like wannabe hippie would've been a better translation. Which makes me wonder what else I haven't understood.
This post was brought to you by my gay anxiety. Thanks for tuning in.
Season 3 better be the best Christmas gift ever. But no pressure.
