Am I about to break my state of perpetually-lurking-never-commenting/posting-on-this-website over the discourse going on about Wilbur from Meet the Robinson's date of birth? That is an excellent question. Anyhow,

Point 1.

I think it would be fitting for a time traveler character, specially one responsible for as many paradoxes as he helped create in the film, to have the most inconsistent date in the calendar, that comes and goes every couple of years, as a birthday.

Point 2.

2024 is a leap year, so it is plausible.

Point 3.

Look at this child. Look at this menace to society and tell me he has a normal day for a birthday. I dare you.

Point 4.

I thought I had more points.

I don't know, the idea of him being a leap year baby just makes sense to me for some reason.

Whatever the case, happy birth year(?) to Wilbur Robinson.

OK OK so my thing is, why did the game just brush over the like- 32 hours (give or take im making half this shit up) Wilbur spent fixing the timeline??? Penny was his celebrity crush before captain time travel, she’s low-key the reason he’s so, adventurous and “cool” (he is cool but ok that’s a whole persona)

i personally think the mtr visuals are more about being consumed than representing causation. in the visuals, there is taylor in a black dress and i think it’s showing how her at the funeral. it starts with a tear dropping from her eye to one candle (eventually 5 candles - all of the 5 literally have a flame made of tears so im interpreting her tears burned them out), and then one drop falls into the ocean, and then the ocean water becomes extremely stormy, and then it cuts to taylor in a black dress at night.

so imo it’s a representation of how the grief starts out slow - she’s crying and causes a candle to burn out - and then it turns into sobbing (multiple candles burn out), and then she feels she’s been thrown into the water and she can’t breathe (because she’s sobbing), and then it just keeps getting worse - she can’t handle her pain and grief - and she (represented by boat) is involuntarily being sucked into the water storm and drowning in it, and then the storm circle transitions into her spinning and reeling in her black dress which i think is saying “she is not just drowning in her pain anymore, she is pain personified.” her in a black dress imo means that her pain killed her and now she’s at her own funeral alone, mourning even after she’s not alive. and then it cuts to night, which imo means that hours pass by, she can’t get over it, and no one else is there and she’s alone in it.

i look at the visuals as a story rather than them being symbolic. anyhow, i do like that the idea that her grief is big enough to cause storms (and tbh you could be right, im just blabbering). maybe she intended both idk.

no this interpretation completely makes sense to me and feels accurate! i was thinking of that line "the battleships will sink beneath the waves" - her grief and rage pulling down her enemies and herself. i haven't seen the full mtr visuals since i was at the show in april so i had forgotten all about the candles, i appreciate you describing them. i agree it makes sense as a story or her progression of grief (just like the funeral procession.)
