Struggling to find posts u've made in the past about Stoneclaw, but I love her sm. Definitely one of my BB Blorbos
I don't think I've ever put together a particular thingie on her, she's a beloved background character who tends to show up on her own in various places. Like when I talked about sign, before making the deafness guide!
BB!Stoneclaw is a gray-and-gold tortie, and the sister of Thrushwing. They come from one of the field guides, where it's revealed the two of them were sitting their vigil on the night that ShadowClan drove WindClan out of their home. In canon, Thrushwing is the survivor, but for BB, we all just kinda liked Stoneclaw's name more than Thrushwing's, so I decided to hit him with the Woman Beam.
On the night of the WindClan Massacre, Stoneclaw and Thrushwing were sitting vigil.
Daughters of Flytail and Eagleswoop, and grandkits of Tallstar himself. They were a promising young pair.
Before they even knew what hit them, they heard Brokenstar's yowl.
A squadron burst from the shadows, sliced Thrushwing's throat open, and smashed Stoneclaw's head to the ground
ShadowClan wasn't showing mercy, survivors were incidental. Their goal was to kill as many cats as possible.
Stoneclaw was dazed for a few seconds, going limp, but when she came to she leapt right back into the fray. She watched the rest of her family fold.
Tangleburr and her squadron went right for her father, Flytail, out of revenge for Lizardstripe, mobbing him and pulling him down
Eagleswoop just had a stroke of bad luck, failed to dodge, and was killed like prey
It was a horrific night, and what was once a large family was decimated to a couple of cats. She lost auncles, both parents, and her sister in one fell swoop.
Injured and aching, Stoneclaw said nothing as WindClan escaped the scene. The other survivors took it as a sign of great honor from the young warrior; that she had upheld her vow to the bitter end, even after losing so much.
But it lasted long after that night. The vigil has never truly 'ended' in her mind, so her vow of silence hasn't either.
Unfortunately, WindClan gets rough shake after rough shake from this point on, and she barely has a chance to heal in the constant barrage of violence and aggression. Between Nightstar's invasion, TigerClan, the BloodClan battle, the destruction of the White Hart woods, the Great Journey, and the Civil War... things only really started settling down years into her life, during Po3.
During the Civil War, Stoneclaw was actually ideologically aligned with Mudclaw, but took Onestar's side. She wanted to believe that Tallstar was lied to, but... she knew her grandfather better than anyone. Once the shock wore off, she had to face the horrible truth that he made a sudden, naiive decision.
It didn't take her long to stop regretting her choice, though. Her feelings are complicated, but her line too far is Mudclaw's willingness to attack his Clanmates.
Had she taken his side, she would have gone into battle with her future mate as a target. She doesn't think about it-- dismissing that she ever could have made such a choice.
Her internal monologue is a lot more afraid, frustrated, and exhausted than other cats would guess it is. Her actions don't match her thoughts.
She's hardworking, always trying to make her Clanmates comfortable, frets over her friends and family endlessly. Pair this with WindClan's assumption that her selective mutism is a "vow of silence," and most cats see her as an "ideal warrior." Someone kits should look up to and aspire to be.
She got into a relationship with Snapstorm waaaay too quickly; but luckily, Snapstorm is a really good mate.
After everything she'd been through, Snapstorm's cheerful, easygoing attitude was soothing and attractive. Snapstorm just had to say, "Hi Stoneclaw! Mice to see you around!" and then hand her a mouse for lunch and it was all over
Snapstorm was a BloodClan trader who joined along with Brushblaze, and one of the targets of the Civil War. She's a bit flighty and doesn't always think through everything she says, and doesn't worry about much either.
Their oldest kit is Buzzardclaw, who takes after Snapstorm a lot. So far I also gave them Crouchfoot in a later litter, but I've been thinking about giving them a bunch more.
The oldest litter was definitely accidental.
But not unwelcome. They both responded to it enthusiastically, Stoneclaw because she suddenly felt like she would have a big family again, and Snapstorm because she loves kids and just wanted to be a parent one day.
As mentioned before, they got into their mateship very quickly. They made each other happy and that's the whole reason.
Unfortunately, they would start seeing the difficulties of their personalities clashing while raising kittens. Which I just find FASCINATING which is honestly kinda why I want to throw more kits at them (not to mention how small WindClan is, padding is super appreciated)
See, Stoneclaw is dealing from serious CPTSD. Her mutism is NOT a vow. She can't speak and it's frustrating to her.
At the same time, watching the very helpful tail-signals that WindClan uses to communicate across the distant moor reminds her of battle signals, like she had to deal with during the fights with TigerClan. It's triggering, and that's ALSO stressful.
She's also lost so, so much of her family within the span of a few years, and is dealing with attachment issues as a result. Especially to that first litter, which she would be terrified of losing.
This makes an individual who can't communicate, but is desperate to. She hasn't been able to work well in groups for years, and unlike a more solitary cat like Willowclaw, this is not the result of a choice.
Snapstorm, being an outsider, is the first and only cat to not treat her behavior like... well, some kind of solemn vow to be "respected."
And that means a lot to Stoneclaw. Even if she was poetic, these are complicated feelings which would be hard to describe.
And Snapstorm is a sweetheart, but, she is putting a lot of effort into this relationship. She's not really great at focusing on one thing for too long, and a bit "forgetful" in the way that details go missing for a while until they come back later.
So sometimes an important bit of info slips her mind, or she misses a social cue and makes a joke that's a bit gruesome, or the fact that Clanmew is her second language rears up and she forgets words or translates a Townmew idiom directly and it Does Not Work.
While all this is happening, especially with the early litter, Stoneclaw is being a helicopter parent. Too worried to give her kits the freedom they need to develop, and Snapstorm is both trying to be a good parent and a good mate.
I'm fond of the idea that when Buzzardkit was very little, Stoneclaw was the Mi. But as she started to realize that her fear of losing him was hurting both of them, Snapstorm started taking over as Mi.
I think their dynamic is interesting. I like the idea of each litter ending up having a different upbringing, because of the state of their parents each time. Stone's also going to be sticking around for a very long time; definitely the last survivor of the WindClan Massacre, by many years. It's nice to think she's eventually surrounded by kits and grandkits, growing up in a better world than she did, even if it's not without its problems.
She's also going to start using Pawspeak, being one of its foundational members after developing a little friendship with SkyClan's Fallowfern. It's cathartic to her, finally feeling like there's a new context for WindClan's old tail signs, being used to communicate in a language rather than just be used for battle and hunting.
Stoneclaw is one of my personal little BB blorbos that I think about a lot. It's fun having conflicts like this going on in the background.

Thinking about mudclaw... he's really a nonvillain. Like he had a reasonable amount of doubt to believe that his leader had revoked his position to give it to onewhisker, with just onewhisker, his gay crush firestar, and a random thunder warrior as witness. It sounds like bullshit. His biggest "crime" was being manipulated by Hawkfrost
My beloved mutual….I must raise my sword against you……..
Mudclaw put his clanmates and others in jeopardy because he felt entitled to the position. Even when being offered the position of deputy, he refused and actively hindered WindClan’s efforts. Maybe he was manipulated, but he pulled the strings of his own demise by not being able to swallow his own pride and ego.

@jayzzu hi sorry here if ur onefire fic thing sorry I went insane and wrote so much more than a paragraph I got too into it💔 i literally cannot just do a simple thing real!! I wrote context for the scene where onewhisker and firestar r cuddling after Tallstar kicks the bucket! It is currently 4:30am I started writing at like 2am I am so sick 😁 anyways enjoy!! There’s probably a bunch of mistakes but my vision is blurring so I’m gonna pass out now AAAJWJ oki gone
Onewhisker felt cold air seep into his bones, the wind felt strange and unfamiliar to his aching pelt. A black and white figure was slumped on the ground before him. The limp tom’s once fever-bright eyes were dull and void, no spark of recognition in them at all. The cat’s pelt was cold to the touch and rolled lifelessly when Onewhisker nudged it desperately.
Tallstar was dead.
Windclan cats milled around the body, dipping their heads solemnly and murmuring kind words. Onewhisker sat in silence only a few pawsteps away from the cat who had once been leader of WindClan. Morningflower, Onewhisker’s sister, was hunched over looking devastated. Onewhisker felt his heart twist as he heard her shaky sobs.
Tallstar was her mentor.
Ashfoot, Onewhisker’s other sister, was licking her head soothingly, though her own expression was deeply grim.
Bitter bile rose in his throat, and overwhelming grief swept over him once more in a terrible wave. He had know Tallstar for so long, he had been something of a father figure to him, he wasn’t sure what he’d do without him. Onewhisker remembered being a small kit when Tallstar had been in his prime, leading WindClan valiantly. He was beloved, even by those not in WindClan. Onewhisker treasured those memories fondly, though sometimes he found himself wishing he were a kit again. But now he was a full-grown warrior, no long wet behind the ears and starry-eyed. And Tallstar was dead. Dead, dead, dead and hunting with StarClan forever. Onewhisker wished he could mourn in peace and just think about the good times with the old tom, but it wasn’t that simple. Before Tallstar had passed, he had given Onewhisker the most terrifying message he had ever received in his whole life.
He was to be the next leader of WindClan.
Onewhisker closed his eyes painfully at the memory, still feeling surprised at the fact that it was real. Everyone had expected Mudclaw, the clan’s actual deputy, to be the next leader. But, Tallstar had other plans. With his dying breaths, Tallstar had named Onewhisker as his successor, shaking the brown tabby warrior to his core.
How am I going to do this? Onewhisker thought helplessly. I’m not ready to lead a whole clan. What about Mudclaw? He could feel the deputy’s glare burning into the back of his head. The disgraced dark brown tom was hunched over in the back of the crowd, looking mournful yet extremely cross. I would be mad too if someone stole my position. But Tallstar chose me. And I need to honor his word, no matter what Mudclaw thinks. Right?
Onewhisker exhaled deeply through his nose, feeling even more wretched. Thought he agreed with the thoughts in his mind, nagging doubt still ate at him. He turned to gaze at the crowd.
I wish Firestar was here.
As if on cue, a flame-colored form began weaving itself through the sea of pelts. Onewhisker stiffened as the familiar orange tom grew near. Firestar’s pelt was glossy and slick with rain, his muscles rippling strongly beneath his fur. The tom’s emerald green eyes gleamed like fireflies in the night, making Onewhisker feel fluttery. The handsome tom finally made it to Onewhisker’s side, sitting down next to him with a worried look.
“Are you alright? Losing a leader is hard, I know how it is.”
Firestar murmured, his word gentle, reaching out with a paw to place it on Onewhisker’s side. Onewhisker shivered at the touch, despite himself. All his miserable thoughts seemed to fade slightly into the background as he stared at the handsome ginger tom. But the elder’s dragging Tallstar away for burial preparation distracted him from his momentary bliss.
“I-It’s fine. I’m just thinking, you know..”
Onewhisker fumbled, failing to think think of the right words. He sighed again, feeling his chest grow heavy once more. Firestar blinked at him, concern shining in his eyes.
“It’s alright, you can talk to me. I’m here for you Onewhisker, I’m your friend.” Firestar pressed closer, his tail flicking at Onewhisker’s own. Onewhisker’s muzzle twitched once, before he opened his mouth and spilled his guts.
“What if I’m not a good leader for WindClan? I wasn’t expecting this at all, how can I be ready? It’s too soon… Tallstar is going to be disappointed in me and so will all my clanmates, I- can’t do this, Firestar.”
Onewhisker clamped his jaws shut, preventing anymore of his own whiny rambling.
What was that? Onewhisker growled internally at himself. You made a complete fool of yourself, you rabbit-brain.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know where that came from.” Onewhisker muttered, his eartips burning with shame.
He looked wearily at Firestar, expecting a scornful look. Instead, Firestar’s warm face was filled with sympathy. Onewhisker stiffened as Firestar leaned over and buried his muzzle in Onewhisker’s shoulder.
“It’s alright, I know how you feel.” The ThunderClan leader whispered, his voice brimming with unexpected emotion.
“When Bluestar died, I felt hopeless and out of my league. She had been the only leader of ThunderClan I’d ever known and I’d never seen the position taken by anyone else. It was so jarring to have to take her place and lead ThunderClan, especially with Tigerstar around. Despite that, I knew that she wanted me to continue on without her. She believed in me and I know Tallstar had the upmost faith in you. He may have been on his death bed, but he was one of the wisest cats I’ve ever known. He chose you, for a reason. He knew that you were going to do amazing as leader, better than Mudclaw ever could. Everything is going to turn out great, I know it Onewhisker.”
Onewhisker felt his pelt grow increasingly warm. He leaned into the tom’s pelt, his comforting, foresty scent filling his nose. Onewhisker made a small choking noise and felt his eyes water. He had never felt so grateful and overwhelmed by kindness in his life. Utter fondness for the other tom washed over his pelt like an ocean wave, along with something else… Onewhisker swallowed hard, deep emotional babbling threatening to spill directly from his mouth.
“I- thank you Firestar. That means a lot coming from you.” Onewhisker meowed huskily, daring to touch his nose to Firestar’s cheek.
Firestar’s rumbling purr sent shivers down Onewhisker’s spine.
“Your very welcome. I would do anything for you, you know. I promise whatever’s coming we’ll face it together. You and I.”
Firestar meowed, his honey-sweet voice encouraging. He pulled his head away from Onewhisker’s shoulder, much to the brown tabby’s silent disappointment. Firestar gave Mudclaw behind them an uneasy glance, but he turned back to gaze at Onewhisker warmly.
Onewhisker struggled to keep it together,  the fur along his quivering subconsciously. He couldn’t help but smile, despite them being present at a funeral. Feeling better than he had in days, he purred softly.
“I don’t deserve a friend like you.” Onewhisker murmured, glancing over Tallstar’s curled up form. It was now covered in lavender, mint and other sweet smelling herbs the elders had placed upon his deceased pelt.
Firestar nuzzled the side of Onewhisker’s head affectionately. Onewhisker bit back a mew of a surprise.
“Of course you do. Who else would in WindClan would I pester?” Firestar joked lightly. Onewhisker hid his smile by lifting a paw to his face.
“Thunder-cat.” He hissed playfully. Firestar purred and sat up straight. The playful light in his pretty eyes died as he gazed solemnly at Tallstar’s body.
“He was a good friend to us both.” Firestar mewed softly, his voiced cracking with emotion.
Onewhisker nodded sadly.
“I’m going to miss him so much.”
Onewhisker felt his stomach twist with grief again, but this time it was less sharp. Firestar’s warm presence soothed his turbulent emotions a smidge. But he felt his eyes brim with tears again and he couldn’t help but but lean against Firestar’s glossy orange shoulder and weep silently. Firestar shifted so that his head was resting on the top of Onewhisker’s own. The warm weight made Onewhisker squirm delightedly in his pelt despite himself. Onewhisker closed his eyes, feeling his tears dampen the fur on his face.
Though he wept, he was no longer soul-crushingly hopeless. He still felt the sting of loss but it was greatly dulled by the presence of the ThunderClan leader and the reassurance he had brought.
He had a … “friend”, someone who he could rely and depend upon. Someone who, dare he say it… loved him, truly, Firestar could see and understand Onewhisker in a way no other cat had before.
He has a mate and kits! A rational inner voice chimed in the back of the smitten warrior’s head. But it quickly faded to the sidelines as Onewhisker squeezed his eyes tighter, relishing the touch of soft fur against his. He didn’t want to dwell on more happiness destroying knowledge today, thank you very much. Anways…
Onewhisker he loved him, right back, always. Though he couldn’t cohesively put it into words, even inside his mind, Onewhisker was painfully aware. But just for right now, he wouldn’t dwell upon what these thoughts said about him and his state of being.
For now, the pitter patter of raindrops splashing against stone and grass filled his head, drizzling out any further thoughts.
Firestar curled his tail over Onewhisker’s side, partially shielding his from the dripping water. Feeling like he could breath again, Onewhisker sucked in air  deeply, but this time it wasn’t out of fear or stress.
It was out of simple contentment.
I won’t let either of you down, he vowed, feeling the water droplets prick his pelt.  I’ll do my best to make you proud, Tallstar. And you too, he silently thought at the ginger tom curled around him.
I promise.

yea!! not to spoil too much but it focuses on her grieving and finding friendship in dove who shes only just really met as it takes place after tigerhearts se and fills the gap before tbc begins, its sweet sometimes the novellas really hit sometimes they dont i have a friend who skips them completely and i dont get it they add so much NIGHTSTAR MY BELOVED </3 i first read about him in yellowfangs se and thought damn i wish i could read more about him and then his manga came out and i was so happy lol, hoping we get cannon merch of him someday i love how hes written, gonna make a note to make fanart of him aha, unfortunate how he was treated but it feels like it shapes who he is i suppose ohh that makes so much more sense now i thought i was just loosing touch with the fandom and not being able to keep up with names, i was never rly good at it. 💀 i was talking about that with a friend recently too tpb used to repeat backstory about characters so much that it became frustrating but the newer books cut back on it and now when they introduce a character you have to really sit and remember it because they arent explaining it EVER again yaaa!!! u get it lol i started reading other YA series i never read as a kid and thought id reread wcs with a friend for the hell of it (and cause i had so many of the books i never got to) and it was great but as soon as i got to new stuff id never read before it kinda lost its charm and i took a break, sometimes you just arent feeling it, tho the longer you wait the more there is to read when you come back to it who knows maybe holly will be back from the dead again or we will get a jay, holly or lion se, were getting an ivy one after all and theres holly and jay content in the bonus scene for tbc 1
that sounds so sweet ToT SOMEDAY ILL FIND THE TIME TO READ AND REREAD THESE NOVELLAS ive forgotten most of them LMFAO. i think the ones i remember most are hollyleaf's, leafpool's, goosefeather's and dovewings which is.. wow. i def dont have a preference
and yes ur def right that the way nightstar was treated added to how he is generally perceived and his character, it kinda reminds me of mudclaw too! (whos manga i have also still Yet to read rip) i feel bad for them both but their unfortunate circumstances are what makes them such interesting characters T-T
i feel like we are old men yelling at the clouds but in a GOOD WAY HAHAHAHA im glad that despite it, we are talking about the series either way so i guess that means we still feel quite passionate about it, whether in positive or negative manner lmaooo
i think whats stopping me from continuing in reading the new books is that i want to reread it from the very start first, so i am very much stuck in my own way khkjahkljf tbh though whenever i see snippets of the new books in socials i actually find them very interesting! but i def also had moments where i just grew tired and felt like getting away from it all. i am praying so fucking hard for more og po3 content i miss them SO damn MUCH WAHHHHHH
speaking of the bonus scenes, a few weeks back i found out i completely forgot they happened! MORE SPECIFICALLY W HOLLYLEAF, WHAT. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST W JAYFEATHER AND HIM GRIEVING FOR LEAFPOOL. YOURE TELLING ME THERE WAS HOLLY CONTENT TOO??? what the fuck is my brain doing forgetting this information what the hell im such a fake fan TTTTTTOTTTTT

📔 📕 🍂?
📙: Favorite Graphic Novel?
WINDS OF CHAAAAAAAANGE. winds of change. winds of change.
winds of change might be the best story in all of warriors canon.
very fun witnessing how it took mudclaw, an almost entirely forgotten background antagonist, and made him a fan favorite INSTANTLY.
i could reiterate what other people have already said about it (it is beloved for a reason!!!) or i could just link you to the mudclaw as a Shakespearean tragic hero post. i think i am just going to do that. 😌❤️
honorable mention to the rise of scourge for COMMITTING to the manga-inspired art style. baby scourge my beloved ❤️
📕: Favorite Novella?
my long-time favorite novella is pinestar’s choice, although i haven’t revisited it in a while… i appreciate it as a mirror to into the wild. into the wild shows you everything about clan society would that would appeal to a sheltered youngster like rusty (the autonomy, the “glory” of battle) while pinestar’s choice shows you how horrifying clan life would be from the perspective of the old man who is responsible for leading his troops to death 😀👍
pinestar leaving tigerkit in order to “protect” him (and shirk his responsibilities as leader 👀) only for his abandonment to fuel tigerstar’s rage is just soooo tasty… it harkens back to greek tragedy… the avoidance of prophecy just for it to come back and bite you in the ass. the gods starclan are cruel and vengeful!
when i first read it, pinestar going to live with shanty’s owners was a category five hysteria moment for me. AAUUUUGGHHHHHHHH
i also adore dovewing’s silence as an epilogue to omen of the stars/the great battle. so dreary! i like it when warriors goes dark, haha
🍂: Favorite non-Clan or Clan-esque group?
i wasn’t a fan of graystripe’s vow but warriorclan as a reference to the phenomenon of live action warrior cats role players is maybe the funniest thing the series has ever done… the META of it all!!!!!!

Do you think Leopardstar had anything to do with Crookedstar’s death? Like it’s kinda sus how he died, maybe Leopardstar poisoned him, I mean her dad is the medicine cat, she definitely picked up on some herbs, like the herbs that could kill a cat.
Also, Mistyfoot killing Leopardstar is much more interesting than her dying of an illness. Could she drown her? Like just draining whatever lives are left. Ironic for two reasons: A similar way that Tigerstar went and the fact that Leopardstar is a drypaw and has nearly died to drowning before.
I’m thinking of mudcastle’s post:
https://at.tumblr.com/mud-castle/i-mean-you-could-always-go-with-the-horrifying/qajb96o44lmr
As the saying goes, actions speak louder than words and Mistyfoot is doing just that.
I loooove Mudcastle dude. They're a cool ass blog.
I think in-canon, the Erins refuse to give me my evil women and want to starve me to death with an absolutely sauceless Leopardstar who was nice the whole time. But this is MY kitchen and I add AS MANY SPICES AS I WANT.
Did she kill Crookedstar?
You bet your bottom dollar she did. I am extremely fond of the Fire and Water's take that she didn't outright KILL him, but she was weakening him. Juuust enough to sap his strength, not enough for it to be obvious she did it.
How does Mistyfoot kill Leopardstar?
I looove Mudcastle's Dark Mirror AU, but my Mistystar isn't so evil. I want to frame what she does to Leopardstar as something violent and traumatic, not something she enjoys.
In my head, it's something that creeps up on her. It wasn't right away after Brook and Stormfur were exiled. It's how Hawkfrost dies and the clan goes into mourning (he was, after all, beloved, respected, a young and promising warrior), and Mistyfoot expects a small shock...
...and instead, there's a simmering heat in the Clan. How they start to look at Mothwing differently. Whispers that maybe Hawkfrost didn't take a life from Firestar at all.
It's Reedwhisker falling into the river and his patrol not jumping in after him.
It's Blackclaw making a remark about thick ThunderClan blood clotting up in his feet.
It's Leopardstar drawing away from her as a deputy, even without Hawkfrost to undermine her, feeling the political tide of RiverClan turn cold again
Finally, someone floats the idea of taking the meeting island as the camp again. Mistyfoot reminds them of how StarClan smote Mudclaw. Blackclaw shouts her down, RiverClan descends into an argument, and when she looks up to Leopardstar for backup, the setting sun shades the stump into a dark, spiky hill.
Leopardstar's amused eyes flash, Tigerstar amber, dark-forest red, and Mistyfoot realizes that this will not end without someone to stop it.
I think she has to kill Leopardstar three times, and it will not be easy for her. Leopardstar is a vicious, powerful warrior. I think drowning would be good for one of the deaths, but the final blow should come from some sort of stone. Misty smashes Leopard's head against it.
One of those things were you can't be sure if it was coincidence, or if Stonefur was sending a sign from StarClan.

Tbh your mudhawk au is the very definition of good soup love it a lot and I was wondering what's the relationship between them like?
MUDHAWK AU ANON MY BELOVED. SOMEONE WHO REMEMBERS THAT AU EXISTS. OMG. MWAH. I KISS.
uhhh it starts off really stilted and awkward because mudclaw can't admit he's gay and also feels bad about forcing* hawkfrost to marry him, and hawkfrost knows mudclaw expected a woman and also misses his home and family.
*"force" in the sense that this is a political marriage which hawkfrost agreed to but didn't necessarily initiate.
but they are both gay for each other so it's just. uh. matthew learns how to write slowburn.

<< Allegiances || Chapter 26 || Chapter 27 || Chapter 28 || From the Beginning >>
Chapter 27
Mistyfoot felt drowsy when morning came, but despite that she was grateful it had – traveling through Twolegplace just those few days had made her feel backwards, waking up at night and sleeping during the day. Even if it seemed that non-Clan cats lived that way, it felt wrong to Mistyfoot. She pushed herself to her paws and yawned.
“I can’t believe it!” Feathertail mewed as she stretched in her nest. Stormfur was grooming himself beside her. “We’re almost there! Isn’t that exciting?”
“I know!” Nightpaw’s tail was bristling with anticipation. “I can’t wait!”
“Well, calm down now,” Stoneheart reasoned. The big gray tom curled his striped tail around his paws. “The lake isn’t going anywhere… and we don’t know what we’ll find when we get there. I say we ought to loosen up our muscles a little before we get going.”
Nightpaw frowned, looking downhearted. “Yeah, but my leg… I don’t think I can train right now…” The injury looked like it was fully healed to Mistyfoot, but she could understand his hesitance.
Stoneheart shrugged. “Neither can I,” he pointed out. “But that just means we’ll have to rely on the others to help us, and that means they should definitely take the time to brush up on some moves.”
“I agree,” Stormfur meowed. He stepped out of his nest and shook dew off of his pelt, much to Crowpaw’s annoyance. “Let’s split up the apprentices between us and work on some basic moves. I’ll take Shadepaw.”
Shadepaw’s head shot up from her nest, her eyes wide. “Really?” She scrambled to her paws. “Let me check Nightpaw and Stoneheart’s injuries first!”
Stormfur nodded, flicking his tail at her. Shadepaw dug through her nest for some leaves and hastily began looking over the injured. Her tail was flicking impatiently from side to side, and Mistyfoot stifled a purr – she could get just as excited as Nightpaw about things.
“Mistyfoot, you take Crowpaw,” Stormfur suggested.
Mistyfoot swallowed, anxiety buzzing in the back of her mind as she looked at the scrawny black tom. He didn’t look pleased with the decision, narrowing his dark blue eyes at her. She glanced back at Stormfur, hoping he might change his mind – especially after their conversation about Shrewpaw – but the RiverClan tom was leading a bouncy, eager Shadepaw towards the other side of the clearing.
“I’ll see if I can rustle us up some fresh-kill,” Feathertail decided.
“Let me come with you,” Nightpaw insisted, getting up out of his nest. “My leg feels just fine! I think I can manage that!” He glanced at Shadepaw, who paused to nod at him.
“All right, but take it easy,” Feathertail agreed, swishing her tail over Nightpaw’s back. “No jumping for birds!”
“I’ll come with y’all,” Purdy rasped, stretching in his nest. Mistyfoot winced, seeing all his bones poking through his pelt. He could do with more than a few feedings. The rumpled tabby nudged Nightpaw with his muzzle. “I’ll keep the youngin’ outta trouble.”
“Well?”
Mistyfoot jumped at the sharp grunt. Crowpaw was staring her down, his whiskers twitching with annoyance.
“Are we going to train or what?” Crowpaw growled.
Mistyfoot forced her fur to flatten. “Y-Yes,” she said. “Let’s go over here.”
Trying to keep her legs from shaking, Mistyfoot led Crowpaw over to the side of the clearing opposite Stormfur and Shadepaw. There was plenty of space, with the roots from the nearby trees only poking through the ground enough to be felt, not tripped over.
Mistyfoot busied herself with clearing away some stray sticks, her heart pounding in her ears. What should I do? She wondered. Oh StarClan help me not to screw this up!
“Show me a roll,” Mistyfoot decided. That was a basic enough maneuver, and every Clan cat knew it regardless of what part of the forest they grew up in.
Crowpaw sighed, rolling his eyes as he preformed the move. His technique was impressive, and Mistyfoot reflected that Crowpaw had been very near the end of his training before the journey had taken him away from WindClan. It shows.
She frowned, trying to think of what to do next. She didn’t know any WindClan moves – and asking him to show her might make him upset. Anxiety was already bubbling up in Mistyfoot’s mind and she could just imagine it taking over… She looked over at Stormfur, and her ears pricked in surprise.
Stormfur was very clearly showing Shadepaw a RiverClan defensive move – he hunkered his body down and charged at Shadepaw shoulder-first. The glancing blow made Shadepaw shift her position and gave Stormfur an advantage in the mock fight.
That’s it! Thanks, Stormfur…
Mistyfoot swished her tail, feeling a burst of confidence push away the anxiety for a moment. “Let’s try a ThunderClan move,” she decided.
Crowpaw’s eyes flashed with interest.
Mistyfoot observed Crowpaw – he was tall and skinny, unlike the more even-bodied ThunderClan cats Mistyfoot was used to. Would he be able to understand a ThunderClan move? Don’t doubt him, she told herself. He’s smart. You’ve seen it.
“Okay,” Mistyfoot began. “This one is pretty simple… I’m going to have you attack me, okay? Watch what I do.”
Crowpaw nodded, hunkering himself down to prepare his strike.
Mistyfoot signaled him, and Crowpaw charged at her. Mistyfoot reared back on her hind legs instead of dodging, like how Crowpaw likely anticipated – she slammed down on the WindClan tom before he could strike, pressing him to the ground with her weight.
When she got off of him, Crowpaw was bristling. “Not fair!” he hissed.
Mistyfoot flicked an ear. “ThunderClan’s territory is cluttered,” she reasoned. “You’ve got to use what space you have to your advantage. Now I’m going to try on you.”
Crowpaw frowned, but nodded. He flicked his tail to signal he was ready.
Mistyfoot launched herself at him. Crowpaw reared back on his hind legs, but he did it too fast – he staggered backward and fell onto his side with a huff. Mistyfoot halted, frowning.
Crowpaw got to his paws, looking cross. “This is stupid,” he snapped.
“Just try again,” Mistyfoot offered. “Make sure you can balance on your hind paws before anything else.”
Crowpaw shook out his pelt and nodded.
They tried three more times – Crowpaw was having difficulty with the move, and Mistyfoot noted that it was likely because WindClan cats were so used to being able to run from their problems rather than confront them. She didn’t say it aloud.
Each time he failed, Crowpaw looked more and more upset – until the fourth, where Crowpaw fell down again. He lashed out at the ground as he got up, bristling, and he spat, “This isn’t working! I’m not going to get this stupid move!”
“Calm down, Crowpaw,” Mistyfoot insisted. Worry flared in her heart as she saw how upset the apprentice was. “It’s not a big deal…”
“Not to you,” snapped Crowpaw, lashing his tail. His blue eyes burned. “You’re not the kit of a dead deputy every cat in your Clan loved! You don’t have to be so perfect all the time!”
Mistyfoot frowned. Was that where Crowpaw’s attitude came from? She felt badly that she hadn’t imagined the pressure the young cat must be under – Deadfoot had been a beloved cat, not just in WindClan. With that legacy, and with an aggressive cat like Mudclaw for a mentor…
“I understand,” Mistyfoot soothed, feely sympathy well up in her. “Bluestar was my mother – that didn’t make training any easier for me, you know. I’m not going to claw you for not understanding a move immediately, Crowpaw – calm down, and let’s try again.”
Crowpaw bristled at her still, but the burning in his eyes settled. “Sorry,” he grunted.
“It’s okay,” Mistyfoot told him. “And remember – this is a whole other Clan’s style of fighting! You’re definitely not going to pick it up quickly…”
She continued the lesson. When Crowpaw seemed to pick up the first move well enough, she moved on to a few others – with patience and understanding for Crowpaw’s limitations, he picked them up quickly. Mistyfoot couldn’t imagine a less patient cat trying to teach him and getting anywhere fast.
By sunhigh Feathertail, Nightpaw, and Purdy had returned, all laden with fresh-kill. The training was halted so that the traveling cats could eat – they gathered together by the stream, pelts brushing as they ate.
“I just don’t have the bulk to be a RiverClan cat,” Shadepaw lamented. “But those moves were really interesting, Stormfur!”
Stormfur’s whiskers twitched in amusement. “Not all RiverClan cats are bulky, you know…”
“Most of us are,” Feathertail pointed out. “You can’t ignore that!”
Stoneheart nudged Mistyfoot. “You did really well with Crowpaw,” he murmured into her ear. “You’re not as bad a mentor as you think.”
Mistyfoot’s pelt prickled with embarrassment. She glanced at Crowpaw and felt a new warmth towards the apprentice, as if he had really been her own. “I know,” she found herself saying. “It was really fun.”
“I just wish I could’ve trained, too,” Nightpaw sighed. He nudged Crowpaw. “I’d show you a thing or two!”
Crowpaw flicked his ears. “Don’t worry,” he grunted, “I’ll keep your claws sharp as soon as you’re fit to train again.”
“You’d better!” Nightpaw agreed, grinning excitedly. “I can’t wait!”
Mistyfoot’s eyes widened at Crowpaw. That was perhaps the friendliest thing he’d ever said to anyone but Shadepaw. Did Crowpaw see Nightpaw as a friend now, too?
He’s changed so much, Mistyfoot thought fondly. She looked over all the cats in the circle, eating and purring and enjoying themselves. We all have…
———————————————————-
“Well, it’s time, everyone,” Stormfur announced. “We should head off towards the lake.”
Mistyfoot shook dirt off of her paws. She and Feathertail had just finished burying the bones of their meal, and they padded up to Stormfur as he gathered the journeying cats together with a swish of his tail.
“I’ll miss y’all,” Purdy admitted. There was a sadness in his eyes that made Mistyfoot wish they could keep traveling together. The poor old cat must be so lonely…
“Thanks for all your help, Purdy,” Feathertail mewed, her own eyes filled with sorrow. She rested her muzzle on Purdy’s head. “StarClan watch over you.”
“StarClan watch over you,” Stoneheart repeated.
Mistyfoot nodded and repeated, “StarClan watch over you…” The prayer was taken up by the other cats, each one touching noses with Purdy before going to stand beside Stormfur. The old loner looked dazzled and confused, but touched regardless, and Mistyfoot even thought she saw his legs tremble with emotion.
“Aw, y’all…” Purdy sniffled. “N-Now, don’ go gettin’ lost! Just follow this here stream and you’ll hit that lake in no time!”
“We won’t forget you!” Nightpaw purred, rubbing up against Purdy one last time. “Or your stories!”
Purdy’s whiskers twitched. “Y’all come back here on yer way through an’ I’ll tell some more, y’hear?”
“Definitely,” Stoneheart agreed warmly.
“An’ I’ll have a good route back for ye all planned out!” Purdy insisted. “Be careful!”
Stormfur raised his tail in thanks, and the group set off.
Mistyfoot found herself padding beside Stormfur, shoulder to shoulder, and for once she was not rushing to put distance between them. It felt very right, and Stormfur gaze was warm as he looked on ahead, as if having her by his side was all he needed to keep moving. She glanced back and saw that every cat was close to another, grouped up and traveling as one single unit rather than four separate Clans…
… and that felt very, very right.

I’ve noticed some people seemed interested in my TawnyFeather + kits AU, and I have some news for you, it’s actually part of a much larger AU/fix I think about occasionally.
I do work with a traditionalist (more info) worldview, I list the original names the first time the cat is mentioned. Some cats are slightly genetically changed, I mention the changes as well. (I want to make family trees, one day maybe) I talk from Clan to Clan here, and it’s a lot and a little disorganized haha
Hope you enjoy reading my thoughts!
Windclan
For starters, Mudclaw remains deputy. When Ravenstar (Tallstar, he is black with little white now) is close to dying he calls Mudclaw in for a private meeting. When Mudclaw arrives he sees Crowpaw (he doesn’t receive his name in the mountains, also he has amber eyes) leave and enters. Ravenstar is honest about his fears, and Mudclaw listens critically. He vows to try and keep peace, and earn the other clans’ respect in a less violent way. Ravenstar also tells him to respect what Crowpaw chooses to do, Mudclaw doesn’t understand what Tallstar means with this until Crowpaw says that he needs to leave to sort out his thoughts. He allows it, and prays that he is safe.
Mudclaw becomes Mudstar, with lives (not literal lives, but more in a guidance way, as is more common within traditionalism) for Compassion, Clarity of judgement, Diplomacy, Patience, Love, Wisdom, Endurance, Loyalty, and Understanding of other viewpoints.
Oatwhisker (Onewhisker, brown and white tabby) becomes his deputy, and Starclan shows approval by granting access to the island. The two become good friends.
Windclan and Thunderclan still grow apart, but less so. Mudstar is not hostile, but also asserts their rights to decline help. Firestar is a little saddened, but respects the decision. With time the two clans change that distance to a more casual relationship.
Since Crowpaw is gone, Nightcloud has kits with a loner, Sleetkit (Breezepelt, now a lighter gray) and Antkit (Black molly). They grow up to become Sleetpelt and Antfang, they’re both a little hot-headed but ultimately strong young cats.
Crowpaw returns after several years, changed into a more wise man. He asks Mudstar to be let back, and he accepts after remembering Ravenstar’s words. Crowpaw becomes Crowheart and lives his life without mate/kits.
When Darktail arrives Mudstar is mad that Oatwhisker kept this a secret, but doesn’t have any reason to punish him since he never broke the law. Oatwhisker dies with Darktail, which Mudstar grieved over for the rest of his life. Sedgewhisker succeeds Oatwhisker, and she becomes Sedgestar when Mudstar dies of old age.
Shadowclan
Tawny’s kits are born a lot earlier, and they aren’t really just The Three In Shadowclan for their earlier life. Tawny teaches them about their family in the other clans, and stands up fiercely when other cats try to tell them they’re not Shadowclan.
Rowanclaw is their foster father (he’s trans) and when he has his own litter Tawny + kits help with raising his kits: Redkit/paw/whisker (Redwillow, red and black torbie, predominantly red) and Darkkit/paw/nose (Olivenose, black and red tortie, predominantly black). Tawny and Rowan are close friends, but never mates.
Sol still appears and causes a ruckus, and it’s resolved the same way.
Russetfur retires from her position before she’s killed in battle, she becomes an elder but remains fairly active because she can. Nobody dares to stop her anyway, and her death shakes all the clans. She is succeeded by Tawnypelt.
When Blackstar dies in the floods, Tawnystar succeeds him. She names Rowanclaw deputy.
Tawny’s kits themselves are largely themselves:
Reedtail (Flametail, brownish-red tabby with white) was really sickly as a kit (Tawny didn’t have an ideal pregnancy, with stress from journeying and malnutrition), he often had to stay in the medicine cat den. Littlecloud let him help so he wouldn’t grow bored while he was staying there, when Reedkit was ~7 moons (apprenticed late) he chose to become a medicine cat because he loved the work and wants to help cats as sickly as himself. Littlecloud was very fond of him, and the two were often called “like brothers” by the other medicine cats. He dies from shock after falling in the freezing lake while playing with his foster siblings. Littlecloud was devastated, and mentored no other cats until Mudleaf’s (Puddleshine, brown and white tabby) enthusiasm made him cautiously less stuck in his grief.
Goldenstorm (Dawnpelt, cream and grey calico) was a go-getter, happy to give her opinions and overall quite the troublemaker. She keeps senior warriors on their toes, and Tawny is never surprised to find her at the root of mischief. She has kits later in her life, and is heavily scarred but lives through the Darktail era. She is renamed Scarredpelt, and wears the name with pride.
Heronfur (Tigerheart/star, silver black tabby with white paws and chest) is mostly the same. He’s your average tom, with a penchant for bad ideas. The romance with Dovewing is gone, and he doesn’t become deputy/leader.
Thunderclan
The three are Maplecloud’s (Leafpool, dark, brownish-red ticked tabby) kits, but no-one knows who the other parent is. She steps down as med. cat after she discovers her pregnancy, many cats were skeptic, but her willingness to give up her dreams made them sympathetic. When Cinderpelt dies, she takes up the med. cat duties again.
Foxkit/paw/storm (Jayfeather, red classic tabby), becomes a warrior, his mentor is Brightheart. Maplecloud was overjoyed to see him succeed as a warrior. I personally am not a fan of the whole prophecy in the 3rd and 4th arc, so I scrapped that lol. He’s a cranky warrior that bites off more than he can chew to prove himself, Brightheart helps him accept himself. It’s a long journey, but he is enjoying his life more and more as he grows older.
Emberkit/paw/heart/star (Hollyleaf, black and red tortie), becomes a warrior with a strong belief in the code, highly intelligent and has the qualities of a leader. She is a beloved warrior, deputy and eventual leader. She becomes mates with Smokepelt (Cinderheart, gray and cream and white tabby with a broken leg).
The two have three kits:
Patchfur (Hollytuft, gray and cream lynx point)
Ryestripe (Sorrelstripe, gray and brownish torbie, predominantly brownish)
Ashcloud (Fernsong, grey and white)
Lionkit/paw/claw (Lionblaze, still a fluffy golden tabby), is a strong fighter and the definition of beauty. It was no surprise that he had flings across the borders sometimes. He’s bad at making good choices, and is grateful that Emberheart acts as his brains sometimes. He is the surrogate father of Smokepelt and Emberstar’s kits.
Ashfur doesn’t betray anyone, never had a thing with Squirrel and he dies when he helps Maple and Squirrel save the three in the fire.
Brambleclaw (Reddish-brown tabby) never takes up the position of deputy, Hornetfur (Brackenfur), becomes deputy instead. Bramble gravitates towards an uncle role with Maplecloud’s kits, and is saddened to learn that his attempts towards having kits with Squirrelstorm (Squirrelflight, ticked red tabby, no white) are failing (He’s infertile, they have a loner surrogate around the time of TFA).
Alderkit/paw/pelt (Alderheart, brown tabby with a little white) takes interest in med. cat duties, and succeeds Maplecloud.
Gingerkit/paw/pelt (Sparkpelt, predominantly red torbie with white paws) looks a lot like her grandfather, very excitable.
Pigeonkit/paw/whisker (Dovewing, Gray with odd eyes, deaf and blind on the blue eyed half of her face), has good senses, but ultimately wasn’t meant for he life of a warrior, she becomes a kittypet and still lives near the lake. Foxstorm was her mentor. Her sister visits her occasionally.
Silverkit/paw/claw (Ivypool, silvery gray tabby), was Emberstar’s apprentice when she was a warrior. She’s a good fighter, though at a young age she was often bitter that her sister seemed to get more attention. Emberheart helped her realize her own strength, and she became deputy under Emberstar.
Riverclan
Riverclan was too ignored for me to change much sadly. I still had a few things:
Mothface (Mothwing, golden lynx point) is very close to Maplecloud :) Many jokes are made that Lionclaw looks like her :) ;) Her brother Kitefang (Hawkfrost, brown lynx point) used her to gain power, the two were close and she never hated him after his body and plans were discovered. She doesn’t believe in Starclan still, and is respected. Miststar (Mistystar, ticked gray tabby, Russian Blue green eyes) covers for her lack of belief, and knows she’s valid and a good med. cat.
Riverclan doesn’t let Darktail mess with them, Miststar isn’t leader for long, but still is the oldest living one for a while. Rookstar (Reedwhisker, has green eyes now) succeeds her and his deputy is Minnowtail.
(Also in case my vague smilies are too... vague, Mothface is the mother of the three and loves her children very much despite not seeing them often)
