Hi, I'm an undergrad CS and maths student. Usually I enjoy algebra more than analysis, and I greatly enjoyed learning about computability theory and a little earlier, group theory. Unfortunately, right now I'm taking a course (aka module) in real analysis and another in complex analysis. My algebra course is primarily about linear algebra, we learn about fields, rings, and all the linear algebra stuff like vector spaces and the like. I am surprisingly enjoying complex analysis, but I'm not the biggest fan of linear algebra, do you have any advice on how to stick through it until I get to some of the more fun generalised things, or is it gonna be like linear algebra from here on out?
It's hard to say without knowing more about why you dislike linear algebra at the moment. If your class is computation-based, I get it, it's boring. Hopefully you're learning proof-based linear algebra, but if you've already learned about groups, this might be a bit boring for you, since the start of linear algebra is pretty simple, and there's some "dirty work" to be done. If you've seen group theory, a lot of things might look familiar or even identical to you. I would try to see how many parallels you can draw for yourself between the theories. A lot of the underlying properties/theorems here can actually be stated much more generally (e.g. the isomorphism theorems). Edit: I accidentally posted this too early, here's the rest: Linear algebra does underlie a lot of mathematics (I'd say most of it, honestly), including a lot of analysis (Maybe not introductory complex analysis in particular, but multivariable analysis uses LOT of linear algebra and basic theory of inner product spaces). Additionally, a lot of arguments in algebra (and analysis!) reduce to (or use) linear algebra. A lot of arguments don't, but it seems to permeate the rest of your mathematical future. I can't say a lot more about how to motivate you in particular without knowing the course structure, and what exactly you aren't enjoying. I will say that with time and practice linear algebra will become pretty much second nature, and a very useful tool, and more advanced linear/multilinear algebra can actually be pretty fun if you've enjoyed algebra so far, but I will conclude by saying that more advanced algebra really really does not feel like linear algebra, even if some areas use it/generalisations of it quite a lot. I hope this ask isn't weird.
I'm currently writing a story where the main character is the school-like there's lots of characters and subplots in that story. So my question is, is it OK to write a story in this format? With multiple main/secondary characters with their plots as long isn't confusing to the reader?

This type of story--with multiple narratives playing out at once--is called "multilinear narrative."
Multilinear narratives work best when the stories revolve around a central theme, the plots intersect at relevant points, and some storylines are interwoven. Ideally, the story needs to end in a way that ties everything together. This can be done by showing different resolutions to the same or similar conflicts, illustrating the different outcomes of the same or similar thematic statement, or by having all of the plots merge into one at the end.
In your situation, the school (setting) is one unifying factor, however you would still need to find a unifying theme, relevant ways for the plots to intersect at interesting points, and ways for some of the storylines to interweave. The reader needs to see and understand how everything is connected beyond just the setting. Otherwise you're just throwing several unrelated stories at them at once, and that does get confusing to the reader. :)

Okay so i come from an Italian American background and I’m converting to Judaism. Having no family that even speaks Italian, is there any way for me as an Italian-American convert whose shul is multilinear but mostly Ashkenazi & Bukharian to connect with Italki identity? My family’s not even from Rome anyhow. Do you have any book recommendations on Italkim and their language?
there's a book called 'handbook of jewish languages' that has info about judeo-italian if you're interested in learning more about that language, and rabbi barbara aiello has a ton of resources about italy's jewish population! i highly recommend checking out her website. if you want some recommendations for italki traditions, consider getting a three branched shabbat candlestick! there's also a lovely tradition for havdalah where a bowl of warm rose water is passed around the table, you dip your fingers in the water, and touch them to the face of the person next to you, and it symbolizes taking the sweetness of shabbat into the next week with you. i have two italian jewish cookbooks that i love: cucina ebraica, and the classic cuisine of the italian jews. both amazing books.

And flow-wise, we've got to move things back out of 80's world from Berlin and the Top Gun soundtrack and on to other things. I think it's a cool move on several levels with all that in mind.

Roses: It totally can. It's just there's way more. More to it. More to me. There's layers, see? The song itself and where I found the song is because there is a lesbian couple in a video game and the character Elle learns to play guitar. Like you have to literally pluck stuff out. And one of the songs she sings is Take On Me and it's just so beautiful and it's totally out of context because of how it's done in the game and you'd never ever know it was this 80's pop song. That's Layer 1. Layer 2, is well that game itself. That's actually part 2 from the franchise of the Last of Us. Which, I have a whole monologue on why I think it's one of the best video games ever and she's into horror stuff and it's got a really interesting take on zombies which she'd probably like to hear about. And Layer 3. And this is just more about me, I'm into interactive narrative games. I'm not like a 'gamer' as what that word conjures up but I do like multilinear storylines and there's this whole sub-genre of games she might be interested in. She's been sharing movies with me and so maybe I might want to share one of these games with her. But that's A LOT to extract out from a song.

Roses: Yes. Her playlist's idea was 'This is Love' but it also had a subtext in place of 'This is Me'. Like even when she picks her clothes it's almost like in defiance to the whole universe to be like, "Hey, this is me." And she knows that when she does that she'll be her best self and everyone will dig that. It doesn't matter that much what shirt I'm wearing. This giant swirl of ideas around me that I can't show people, that's the 'This is Me' part. And it's like this for basically everything I do and every idea I have. What I present usually is a zip file. I wish I could freeze time and uncompress the whole thing and I would if they wanted me to.

Graph Pattern Polynomial We study the time complexity of induced subgraph isomorphism problems where the pattern graph is fixed. The earliest known example of an improvement over trivial algorithms is by Itai and Rodeh (1978) who sped up triangle detection in graphs using fast matrix multiplication. This algorithm was generalized by Ne\v{s}et\v{r}il and Poljak (1985) to speed up detection of k-cliques. Improved algorithms are known for certain small-sized patterns. For example, a linear-time algorithm is known for detecting length-4 paths. In this paper, we give the first pattern detection algorithm that improves upon Ne\v{s}et\v{r}il and Poljak’s algorithm for arbitrarily large pattern graphs (not cliques). The algorithm is obtained by reducing the induced subgraph isomorphism problem to the problem of detecting multilinear terms in constant-degree polynomials. We show that the same technique can be used to reduce the induced subgraph isomorphism problem of many pattern graphs to constructing arithmetic circuits computing homomorphism polynomials of these pattern graphs. Using this, we obtain faster combinatorial algorithms (algorithms that do not use fast matrix multiplication) for k-paths and k-cycles. We also obtain faster algorithms for 5-paths and 5-cycles that match the runtime for triangle detection. We show that these algorithms are expressible using polynomial families that we call graph pattern polynomial families. We then define a notion of reduction among these polynomials that allows us to compare the complexity of various pattern detection problems within this framework. For example, we show that the induced subgraph isomorphism polynomial for any pattern that contains a k-clique is harder than the induced subgraph isomorphism polynomial for k-clique. An analogue of this theorem is not known with respect to general algorithmic hardness. … FixyNN The computational demands of computer vision tasks based on state-of-the-art Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) image classification far exceed the energy budgets of mobile devices. This paper proposes FixyNN, which consists of a fixed-weight feature extractor that generates ubiquitous CNN features, and a conventional programmable CNN accelerator which processes a dataset-specific CNN. Image classification models for FixyNN are trained end-to-end via transfer learning, with the common feature extractor representing the transfered part, and the programmable part being learnt on the target dataset. Experimental results demonstrate FixyNN hardware can achieve very high energy efficiencies up to 26.6 TOPS/W ($4.81 \times$ better than iso-area programmable accelerator).
