Multiple times over the years, Agatha learns the rules.
2.1k
CWs: BBU, pet whump, kidnapping, collar, beating, stress positions, dehumanisation, non-con nudity (non sexual)
Agatha juts her chin out, poise perfect despite the tip-toe position she's been forced into.
"My name is Miss Agatha Stanbury, daughter of Lord Kenneth Stanbury. Let me go and you may get out of this alive."
Foster Montgomery smirks, pressing his knife into her neck, blood beading along its edge.
"I think I'd rather keep you. Nobody's going to find you, certainly not after I'm finished with you." He drags his knife down her front, slitting her clothes. They mostly stay on, but it must be a very sharp knife to manage that. "Take them off."
"No."
He holds up the knife, reminding her. "What did you say?"
Agatha swallows but keeps her poise. She's going to be an actress, she can pretend she has nothing to fear.
"I said no. You have given me nothing to wear afterwards and I will not follow your disgusting commands."
"I have more suitable clothing for you later, if you earn it. But if you won't obey willingly I'll have to do it for you."
Agatha's barely had a chance to process the statement when she's slammed to the ground. All her bones are jarred and her nose explodes with agony. A boot seems to grind her into the floor as Montgomery removes her clothing piece by piece.
She hates herself for thinking it, but at least he lets her keep her knickers.
He grunts in satisfaction, and hauls her to her knees. She shoves his hands away and stands, but is back on her knees in less than a second.
"Stay." He reaches behind him and picks up a leather collar complete with tag.
Agatha doesn't move when he reaches out and buckles the suffocating leather around her throat, but not out of obedience. She just doesn't think she can.
She reaches up to touch it, but Montgomery smacks away her hand before she can.
"Don't even think about it. I'll only ever remove it if you need a punishment that might interfere with the collar somehow, so if you do so yourself I'll assume that's what you're after. But you do still deserve a punishment. Bend over."
Agatha swallows hard, the soft leather and cold metal buckle pressing against her throat. She doesn't move. She only came down for the season, she's not going to obey a kidnapper who's apparently obsessed with turning her into a pet.
He couldn't find a volunteer? There's enough of them.
She pitches forward onto her hands and knees as he pushes her over, pulling her knickers down.
"Bare flesh is best for this. Pets obey. They don't say no. They don't talk back. You need to learn this."
Agatha has never had such a thrashing in her life as she receives then. No-one's ever drawn blood before. She's not passed out enough by the end to receive a reprieve though – he orders her to clean the house, and woe betide her if he finds a speck of dust or blood.
She experiences it all as if from miles away. As if from the gathering she's supposed to be at right now, with entirely different rules. She's not in her body, most of the time, and that's probably for the best.
That day and the next, she learns the rules of being Foster Montgomery's captive.
1) Don't say no.
2) Only speak when spoken to.
3) Don't talk back.
4) Address other people as sir or ma'am.
5) Always obey immediately.
6) Don't remove your collar.
7) Punishments are always deserved, always hard, and given at the slightest provocation.
She adds an extra one from herself, too, which she knows is true. Montgomery giving her a collar is not just him being a sick bastard, it's theatre, another part of the pretense. Because even if he were to parade her in front of those she loves, everyone knows that only pets wear collars.
8) No-one's coming to my rescue. I'm not getting out of here unless I do it myself.
Over the next few months, the rules don't change. The chores are hard, and the punishments harsh, and a lot more of her is scarred now. Very little of what Montgomery does has any logic to it.
But she still can't find an escape. She fears she's sinking into it.
_
When she's hired by Hayes Fletcher, more rules are added to the list.
9) Don't talk to the other pet.
10) If you disobey, it won't just be you who's punished.
Eloise won't receive whippings, of course, and no canings during the shoot, but she can be put in stress positions, or starved, or have a bucket of water dumped over her head before being left in the unheated studio overnight. And Agatha has absolutely no desire to subject her to anything other than a good hot meal and somewhere better to sleep.
_
Rule 7 is underlined dramatically by the inspector's visit. In the aftermath, Agatha's arm and back throbbing, blood pooling on the frozen stone floor that her toes are just able to touch, Eloise whimpering from her own position, Agatha makes sure to add another two rules to herself (though the second is altered after Eloise's angry objections).
11) Don't talk about the situation to outsiders. It will only make things worse.
12) Don't break the rules. Even Only if Eloise agrees to do so.
_
Agatha could possibly escape during the transatlantic crossing. She thinks about it. Even jumping overboard might be better. But she needs to see Eloise again. Be sure that she's alive and physically unhurt (from the sinking at least, Agatha has no doubt she'll have been hurt since). Tell her that she's brave, and a hero, because if it had been anyone but fellow pets she'd saved, if she was anyone but a pet herself, her actions would've been lauded, but instead it's Hayes Fletcher who's being praised for having such a good pet. Which isn't right, it isn't fair, and Agatha can't leave Eloise on her own.
That's when Agatha solidifies the last rule for herself, that's been brewing since she first met Eloise but she's never stopped to think about it before.
13) Her and Eloise only have each other, and will always have each other.
_
Then the Great War comes.
Foster Montgomery signs up to fight. He leaves Agatha in Hayes Fletcher's care, who lends her to the munitions factory, for good publicity and probably money (money for Fletcher? Money for Montgomery? She doesn't know. But neither man is big into philanthropy). Eloise isn't there. Agatha follows the rules Montgomery has already given her, hating the fact that they keep her alive.
Another few rules are added.
14) Don't become emotional.
15) Never make a sound.
16) Just because you're working alongside people, doesn't mean you are one.
That last is... profoundly obvious, at times. When the rest of the workers get to go home at the end of their shifts and she is kept working, or if there's no-one else at all, locked in the breakroom until morning. When she's fed less than the others, or when she's beaten, or–
It's so obvious, even more so than when she was hired by Hayes Fletcher. She hates it. And she's so alone here.
The war will be over by Christmas, right?
_
1915. Foster Montgomery is dead, and Agatha desperately wishes she could thank his killer, if anybody even knows. She gets a new tattoo, signifying her ownership by Hayes Fletcher (luckily, she knows his rules, there's no new ones to learn there). The Munitions Act comes into force, and the regular bombing raids start.
Monkey's paw. She's not alone anymore, but it means that Eloise, and several other pets, have joined her in the munitions factory.
She teaches Eloise what she's learned about staying out of trouble where possible. They have a dedicated bunkroom now, pets crammed in on old bedding on the floors of the worst-maintained rooms. They learn that only a few owners have paid for their pets to be taken to air raid shelters.
Hayes Fletcher hasn't.
Night after night they spend, trying to stay calm as bombs rain down around them. Occasionally they're still chained or tied up at night, for punishments, and when that happens Agatha worries the most.
She learns one more rule.
17) Sometimes all you can do is pray.
_
The war ends. By a miracle, her and Eloise are both still alive. Hayes Fletcher goes back to producing films, albeit with less success. Agatha watches as pet liberation campaigns grow, and the next decade approaches with force. The world seems a little more hopeful, things seem to be changing.
Except for her and Eloise. Stuck with the horrible, spiteful little man, punishments getting worse as he gets more frustrated and blames them for it (or maybe he simply has nowhere else to put his anger). The world's moving on, votes for women are coming, and she can't help but think of what her life might be like if she hadn't been kidnapped all those years ago.
She remembers rule 7. And the last time was dreadful, and another attempt could get them both killed, but she mentions her rule to Eloise one night and Eloise agrees. They have to try, don't they? Sometimes, it's the only thing you can do.
A week later, the film studio burns down in the middle of the night. Arson, probably. By the time the fire brigade arrive to the burnt out husk Agatha and Eloise are already sneaking onto a train to London.
_
"If the both of you want rules, I can give you some," says Ira, clearly reluctant, "as long as we can go through the ones you already have first. Is that all right?"
"Yes, ma'am."
Ira nods. "Why don't you write me a list then? We can go through them while Eloise is busy."
Agatha takes the paper and pen she offers, wincing as she sits down, heart skipping a beat. She's still not used to it.
At the end of the session, her list reads:
1) Don't say no.
2) Only speak when spoken to.
3) Don't talk back.
4) Address people as sir or ma'am.
5) Always obey immediately.
6) Don't remove your collar.
7) Punishments are always deserved, always hard, and given at the slightest provocation.
8) No-one's coming to my rescue. I'm not getting out of here unless I do it myself.
9) Don't talk to the other pets.
10) If you disobey, it won't be just you who's punished.
11) Don't talk about the situation to outsiders. It will only make things worse.
12) Don't break the rules. Only if Eloise agrees to do so.
13) You and Eloise only have each other, and will always have each other. (Ira says she can get rid of this one partially too, but she's not so sure. Not yet)
14) Don't become emotional.
15) Never make a sound.
16) Just because you're working alongside people, doesn't mean you are one.
17) Sometimes all you can do is pray.
The new rules are easy, and straightforward, and Agatha doesn't entirely trust them. The list now reads:
1) You belong to yourself.
2) You will never be punished, no matter what you do.
3) You and Eloise only have each other, and will always have each other.
4) Sometimes all you can do is pray.
_
Agatha kneels on the floorboards, trembling. It's her turn today, Ira asked her to clean and she said yes, she's not sure why except she's so used to not being allowed to say no.
She hopes she's done well. She hopes she's done well. She hopes she won't be punished.
Ira doesn't do punishments. But all the same, she hopes she won't be punished.
There's footsteps, then they stop.
"Agatha?"
"I've finished cleaning, ma'am."
A hand on her shoulder. "Agatha, please look at me. I'm not going to hurt you, I promise. Come on, look up."
Agatha obeys hesitantly. And gasps. Ira's eyes are dark and warm and how could Agatha ever have thought otherwise? Ira gets down to her level as Agatha grasps her hands tightly, pulling her into a rare hug.
"Rules one and two, Agatha."
"I belong to myself," whispers Agatha, still clutching Ira tightly, "and I will not be punished."
Ira's two rules. The only two she'll ever make.
1) I belong to myself.
2) I will never be punished, no matter what I do.
And there's a third, that Agatha has added herself, that she thinks she probably can after so long. Rule number 5, now Ira has been proven correct and number 3 has been partially removed (Agatha does not only have Eloise now).
5) Ira keeps her promises.

Thinking about Whumpees in neighboring cells. They have never seen each other's face, but they can talk to each other through the grate in the wall. They keep each other sane, and make life just a little more bearable.
Until one day, when the other Whumpee doesn't answer.

Yes, yes, Whumpee being forced to dig their own grave, love it.
Now consider: Whumpee being forced to dig a grave. But it's not for them.
They don't know. Yet. So they get to work, snivelling, sobbing, pleading with every haul of sand they throw over their shoulder.
"Hush now, darling, this is not for you."
Whumpee glances up, tears in their eyes.
"It's for your cellmate," Whumper says with a wicked grin. He brings a finger to his lips. "Don't tell them yet. It's our secret."
Bonus: their cellmate is Caretaker

immortal caretaker who has looked after many whumpees in their endless existence. they have an entire set of drawers in their bedroom, almost full to the brim with journals detailing the names, preferences, and stories of each one.
it's a bit bittersweet for them to look back on. many of the whumpees they've written about are long dead, having been under caretaker's care decades if not centuries ago. caretaker misses them all the same.
but, they can't let grief consume them. there will always be more people in need of their help, and caretaker wants to use their infinite life for good.

Character A driving through the middle of nowhere, wondering where they might find help for the super sick Character B in the back, only for them to get into a crash. Now A is injured, B is sick as a dog and somehow they're both trying to pull themselves together enough to take care of each other while they get out of this

Whump Prompts 130: Lab Whump Aesthetic
CW: lab whump (obviously), blood, self-harm, psychological/emotional whump, magic whump
The lab rat uniform: loose, drab, hanging on whumpee's frame like it doesn't feel comfortable there
Bloodstained, soiled clothing, the result of experimentation
Whumpee left naked in their cell as their uniform is washed
Whumpee arriving at the lab facility as a new subject and realizing that whumper will be experimenting on them, not with tools and drugs, but with dark magic
Inhuman whumpees losing whatever shreds of humanity they might have had as time and experiments continue and they're treated more and more like animals
Or, conversely, inhuman whumpees that become more human and exhibit more human emotions as they're mistreated
Whumpee forgetting their own name because they're only referred to by a subject number
Disorientation from drugs/experiment aftermath
Whumpee's sleep, the only time they're alone, being disrupted by nightmares about what's been done to them
Or, a whumpee who's never left alone, always watched, always under observation of some kind
Whumpee's skin slowly turning into a scarred, chaotic mess from cuts/syringes/injections, etc.
Whumpee seeing their own distress and pain mirrored in the glimpsed faces of other lab rats in the facility
Whumpee learning to see themself as nothing but a test subject
Bandages, sterile gauze, sterile lights, sterile everything
Whumpee being overwhelmed when they catch a glimpse of life outside the lab when visitors arrive
Waking up after an experiment, seeing bloodied instruments and wondering groggily what terrible thing whumper could have done to them now
Learning to damage their own body to foil whumper's plans
Whumpee becoming desensitized to whumper's drugs and needing higher and higher doses for them to work
No longer recognizing their own body after recovering from whumper's last experiment
Whumper leading lab rat whumpee to a mirror, after intentionally keeping them away, and letting them see how pathetic they've become
Or, whumpee looking in a mirror and realizing that whumper has turned them into a monster
Whumpee deciding that it's too late for them and they might as well embrace what they've become
Feel free to reblog and add on!

Whumpees who hate eachother wake up in shared captivity, and now have to work together to get out. Bonus points if they're family. Extra bonus points if they're used as leverage to make sure the other behaves. Extra extra bonus points if it works.

Whumpee is fighting Whumper with a group of their friends. Whumpee and Whumper fight one on one and Whumper pins Whumpee down. They don't understand what is happening at first, but then Whumper pushes their palm against Whumpee's head. It starts with burning, then screaming, then the world goes dark. Whumper removes their hand and Whumpee has a mind control rune on their forehead.
"Stand up." Whumpee obeys Whumper's command. With a snap of their fingers, Whumper points to Whumpee's friends. "Kill them."

I am once again thinking about living weapon/guard dog whumpee's....
A living weapon whumpee who is just so extremely conditioned that they will not even sleep or eat if not given permission to do so by their master
A guard dog whumpee that is meant to be at their masters side at all times and also be alert to anyone that could be a threat to them but due to having spent so much time just trapped in a tiny and sound-proofed room being tortured for god knows how long, big crowds or even just like, multiple stimuli will cause them to have sensory overload
Living weapon whumpee that is legitimately terrifying, like they have and will kill at the command of their master and will obey the whims of them without any objections as well.
Multiple living weapon whumpee's! They are all deeply conditioned but also feel a very strong kinship towards each other, even if they cannot show it due to the conditioning
And how about their caretaker's?
A caretaker that is smaller and weaker than whumpee, being unable to carry or restraint them when necessary, yet still is determined to help them
A caretaker that is younger than whumpee and is both scared of and hesitant to help them!, whumpee being completely subservient to them does not calm their fear in the slightest
A caretaker that has given up on deconditioning whumpee, simple trying keeping them in a soothed passive state, where they don't harm others or themselves, but are not healed just using their own conditioning in a different way.
Idk man, sorry if something is written weirdly, it's 3 am and English is not my first language, hope ya thought these ideas were interesting at least.

Content: Captivity, multiple whumpees, fear of death, [implied] mentions of murder.
"Why don't we just... pretend like everything is fine?" Caretaker quietly suggested, curling up a little tighter as Whumpee pressed themselves against their side. The cell they were in was damp and cold, no light or signs of the outside world able to be seen. "I don't want my last few days with you to be sad."
Whumpee sniffled, subconsciously clinging onto Caretaker's shirt. "How do we do that?"
"Let's just imagine all the things we never got to do." Their voice got increasingly softer with every word. "Like... adopting the puppy we always wanted, or proposing to each other. I had a ring and everything for that, you know."
"Really?" Whumpee tilted their head up just enough to look their cellmate in the eye, tears welling in their own almost immediately. The sight just about broke Caretaker's heart and they were quick to wipe them away with their thumb.
They then nodded. "Yeah. I was gonna invite you over for a nice dinner and a movie. I had a cheesy speech about how much I loved you and... how I wanted to grow old with you."
With a small sob, Whumpee adjusted themselves enough to bring Caretaker into a hug. Their grip was tight, shoulders quaking with every sound that left their lips. Neither of them cared that there were security cameras watching them. Neither of them cared that Whumper was most likely mocking them from the other room.
"I don't have a ring anymore, or home cooked meals or anything else I had planned, but... would you marry me anyway? Or... would you do me the honor of spending our last few days as my fiance?"
Whumpee nodded against their shoulder, voice slightly muffled against the fabric of their torn shirt. "Yes."

My Fave Multiple Whumpee Tropes
Caretaker showed up to collect whumpee, however they feel guilty leaving the place without grabbing the others that whumpee happened to amongst
Caretaker showing up on scene, only to have to pry whumpee off another
Other whumpee(s) waiting for whumper to finish off with one of them. As soon as whumpee is dropped lazily into the room, and whumper is gone, they crowd around whumpee ready to do everything they can to make this better for each other.
Caretaker looking into whumpee’s cell, only to have to pick them out of a terrible looking group
Whumpees having no caretaker but each other. (And then they become found family)
Whumpees becoming protective over each other after recovering.
Whumpees waking up in care, and looking around to make sure every single one of them is present. The look of relief on each other’s faces when they realize everyone has made it. Maybe they all joke and laugh despite still being confined to bedridden ways.
Whumpees calling out for another whumpee’s name, or another whumpee’s help
Whumper beginning to underestimate the group of whumpees, until it’s way too late, and they jump him
Caretaker going to rescue whumpee, only for other whumpee(s) to stand in their way, nearly growling as they tell Caretaker to stay back from their friend
A collective group of whumpees that all share the same bad backstory, something awful happens yet again (or reminds them), and caretaker doesn’t know what to do when they all react adversely different

whumpee is locked in a cell with one of whumper's other victims. the other person is dying.
speaking with what little strength they have left, the dying person asks if whumpee will let them pretend they're their [partner/sibling/friend], just for a moment. they'll be gone soon, so they won't be a bother for too long. they're just scared and miss their family.
whumpee allows it. they let this dying stranger lay their head in their lap and pretend they're someone else, as whumpee silently strokes their hair and hopes they don't suffer too much.
true to their word, it's only a minute or two at most before the dying person mumbles the name of their loved one under their breath, and then goes still and quiet in whumpee's lap.
and now whumpee is locked in this cell with a corpse until whumper comes back.

Hi, I like your writing, and I really liked your "A Discussion" idea with the hero and villain jailed together! I would love to see any other writing you have on that, though only if you want to post it. Have a wonderful day! 💜💜💜
Aw thank you so much! I love you anon :)
Here is that post
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hero paled a little. “What?”
“You heard me.”
They all eyed each other for a minute. “What happens to the other person?” Villain frowned.
“Well, I’m kinda bored of two pets.” Supervillain pouted. “I think it’s time I get to know one of you more closely.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Supervillain left to give them time to decide, Hero thought Villain would have gotten up and gone to get free. Making a sneering comment to Hero which was supposed to be a joke but in actuality hurt.
But instead, Villain carefully settled back. Moving his chained hands to his lap. “You ready to get out of here?”
“What?” Hero mumbled.
“I’ll stay.” Villain offered quieter.
Hero frowned. “Hold on. Wait-”
“Discussion over Hero.”
He winced at the harshness. It had been a while since Villain had shown such an attitude towards them. Despite it all, they had grown close. They used to fight each other till blood was drawn. Now they were the ones patching each other up after a torture session with Supervillain.
Hero stayed quiet for a minute, knowing time was running out but trying to figure out what to say. “My job is to help and protect others. If I have the chance to help you and I don’t-“
“Hero. You have the chance to go help hundreds, maybe even thousands of people. I'm not gonna be a hero after this. I won't go out of my way to save people. I won’t return the favor, I'm not like you.”
Hero held back a whine of sorts. “Villain, you are important.”
Villain quietly considered that. Looking down at his arms and legs scattered in scars before over at Hero, some were the same, others were different. They’d been tortured together for years now. He didn’t know why the supervillain was doing this, or why now he wanted one of them gone, but he knew it wasn’t for any good reason.
“Hero. You need to go.”
“B-“
“Ssh.” He mumbled softly. He moved closer before gently wrapping his arm around them, careful not to tangle their chains up.
Hero looked at him before carefully hugging him back. “I hate you.” He mumbled, gently pressing his face against him for comfort.
“I know.” Villain chuckled softly. “Hero? Just… don’t forget me. I know saving me may not work-“
“Oh, I will save you.” Hero hissed quietly.
Villain laughed at that, harder than he had in a long time. After a minute grinning. “Alright. I’ll give you that. Just. If you can’t- please don’t forget me?”
Hero frowned. “I would never.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Supervillain took Hero away Villain could barely watch. Just praying he hadn’t made a mistake and Supervillain was going to kill him.
Supervillain didn’t though. They kept to their word.
They took Hero outside the facility and even took them on a plane flight before going to a random street. Hero’s hands were tied and he was struggling to keep up with Supervillain’s longer stride.
Suddenly he stopped and Hero ran into his back. “Now. I wanted to try this new power on you.”
Hero frowned, looking around at the streets that were full of people. “Wha-“
Supervillain released his arms and held Hero’s head. “I can take away memories.”
Hero thrashed suddenly while trying to get away but Supervillain pinned them onto a wall.
Hero’s memory was wiped in seconds flat.
it’s my birthday so here’s some whump prompts! feel free to eat these up like birthday cake :)
whumpee being stuck in captivity for so long, unable to track the time or having their memory wiped so that they don’t remember when their birthday is or how old they are.
whumpee’s birthday is the only day when whumper is somewhat nice to them, giving them cake and presents, and spending the day doing whatever whumpee wants to do (except leaving, of course). whumpee has to savor this day as much as they can, knowing the next day will be filled with pain and torment again.
fae whumper who kidnaps whumpee by throwing them a birthday party. whumpee eats the cake not knowing that they’re now trapped there forever.
whumper getting whumpee as a birthday present. maybe they’re a scientist getting their first test subject, maybe they’re a vampire getting their first bloodbag. whatever the case is, whumper is excited and whumpee is terrified.
ghost whumpee who’s birthday continues to be celebrated by their friends, even after they died. they still feel loved and appreciated even if nobody can see or hear them.
ghost whumpee who’s birthday was forgotten or ignored after they died, never celebrated by the people who they thought cared about them.
multiple whumpees in captivity. whenever it’s one whumpee’s birthday, whumper leaves them alone but tortures the other whumpee twice as bad, and forces them to watch.
whumper having nobody to celebrate their birthday with so they kidnap whumpee.
whumpee who’s birthdays are more fun with whumper than anywhere else. whumper getting them their favorite birthday cake, presents they’ve always wanted, spending the day having the most fun whumpee’s ever had. whumper taunting them about how they like it here, and would never be this appreciated anywhere else.
whumpee getting kidnapped on their birthday, rescued on their birthday, recaptured on their birthday, or dying on their birthday.
whumper taunting whumpee during their birthdays. burning them with birthday cake candles, feeding them a cake they’re allergic to, or poisoning it, and taunting them about how another year has passed and nobody has come to rescue them.
whumper who celebrates their own birthday by torturing whumpee, saying it’s the least whumpee could do to give them a happy birthday.
whumper who loves to celebrate whumpee’s birthday, taking the day off and goofing around with them. whumper blowing up balloons and throwing them at whumpee, making their hair stand up from static electricity, or inhaling the helium to sound all squeaky. silly whumpers my beloved
whumper notices whumpee seems lonely, so for their birthday, whumper kidnaps someone new and gifts them to whumpee to keep them company.
whumpee who escaped captivity and is on the run. they’re living in the wilderness, unable to celebrate their own birthday and risk being found.
whumpee who’s birthday marks the end of a time loop. every time a year passes, they go back to the beginning and have to go through the whole year of being tormented by whumper all over again.
for caretaker’s birthday, whumper sends them the bloody remains of whumpee as a birthday present.
whumper forcing whumpee to eat parts of themself (or a loved one) for their birthday.
whumper cutting immortal whumpee open while they’re still conscious and feeling everything, burning candles in their flesh and cutting them up to eat instead of eating a birthday cake.
