What is and what could never be
Summary: Peter explores this new world, and find that it surpasses everything he ever dreamed about.
Previous parts: Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3,
Tumblr media
Chapter 3: New life
What awaited him once he reached the kitchen truly was a sight to behold. His sisters were both sitting in their usual spots, eagerly waiting for the food to arrive while his mom was quietly humming to herself as she poured the final batter into the pan. Peter quietly sat at the table, observing the piles of food that were already there. There were sausages, eggs, toast, and a growing pile of pancakes.
He hadn’t had a celebration this big since Wanda had died, so it wasn’t really his fault that his mouth moved quicker than he could stop it. “What’s the occasion?”
Lorna let out a giggle as his mom frowned at him. “What do you mean? It’s your birthday, of course.”
Magda put down the final plate of pancakes on the table and wiped her hands on a clean towel. “Now we just have to wait for your father. He should have been here fifteen minutes ago.”
His father? That might get confusing, his mom had had a few boyfriends over the years, some great and some... not so great. But he’d never really considered them as his father. A thought crossed Peter’s mind, one that would be ridiculous in any other place. But here, where his twin was alive, where they still used their birth names, where his younger sister still visited and his mom was happy, it might just be real.
“I’m home!” Came a voice as the door opened. Peter watched in astonishment as Erik kissed his mother on the cheek and handed her a grocery bag. “Sorry for the delay, I couldn’t begin to tell you how much traffic there was.”
“That’s fine,” she assured him as she stored the bag in the fridge. “Now, has everyone washed their hands?”
“I didn’t,” Peter quickly answered. “I’ll go.”
He sped to the bathroom and stared at his reflection again. Nothing made sense, Erik hadn’t stayed, hell, he wasn’t even aware that he had a son. Peter observed his arms and his face more closely. Sure enough, the scars from Jean’s attack were gone. But what did it mean? Was this a parallel universe? One where his father had never left and where Wanda hadn’t been plunged into an endless void of depression and panic until her powers had consumed her? How did he get there in the first place?
The speedster gripped the sink tightly as confusion settled in him. It’s not that he didn’t want it, but it was too much. He'd been living with his grief for nearly ten years now and he didn’t know what to do without it.
A knock on the door pulled him out of his thoughts. “Pie? Are you okay?”
It took a moment to register how Wanda knew something was wrong, but Peter smiled when he understood. Their connection was back. That sweet, comforting link he shared with his twin had mended itself. He could feel her worry, and she had probably sensed his anxiety.
He opened the door to see Wanda observing him, trying to see exactly what was wrong with him. Her long brown hair had a bit of static in it, a classic with her mess of hair. Her brown eyes, just a shade lighter than his, were scanning his face just like he was doing. This Wanda looked like his sister, she acted like her too, but he had to make sure. He couldn’t take another heartbreak.
“Do you remember...” he started, trying to find a suitable memory. Peter smiled when he found one. “When we decided that we would catch the stars to give them to mom?”
Wanda gave him a soft smile, a fond look in her eyes. “And then we realized that it was too far for us to reach and decided to catch fireflies instead? Of course, I do.”
The fact that this memory was still intact in whatever this place was made Peter’s chest flutter in joy. His sudden happiness seemed to reassure his twin, who extended a hand and led him back to the table.
Erik watched as they sat down. “Is everything alright?”
A squeeze of his sister’s hand let him know that she would answer the question. “Of course. Just twin stuff.”
The answer was vague at best, but Erik gave them a nod and Magda gave the go ahead to start eating. He cleared his plate twice and was on his way to get a third one before anyone had finished their first. For the sake of everyone else, Peter ate that plate slowly.
Erik took a sip of his coffee before smiling at them. “We’re so glad you were all able to come for the weekend, it’s not every day your twins turn 30.”
So, that meant that he had moved out, he probably had a job and a whole life he couldn’t remember at the moment.
“How are the kids?” Asked his mom.
Peter practically choked on his eggs because his mom had just asked him about his children. Him specifically. Did he have kids here? He hoped not. There was no way he could be a dad.
Probably picking up on his confusion, Erik raised an eyebrow at him. “I hope the school isn’t giving you too much trouble, I know they were reluctant to hire a mutant at first.”
Okay, so he was still a teacher. Albeit not at Charles’s school. That was fine, he could work with that. “Oh, you know, the usual. But can we not focus on that? It is the weekend after all.”
His dad chuckled at his demand. “Of course, I wouldn’t want to talk about my job in my off time as well.”
The discussion continued; Lorna told them about a boy she had met in one of her classes. This Marcos was apparently always there when she found herself in trouble. Peter shared a side glance with Wanda to confirm his thoughts, she nodded back with a grin. Then the conversation shifted to what his parents had been up to in the last few months since they had last seen each other.
Erik apparently still worked at a metal factory and his mom had, by some miracle, been able to switch her shifts with another nurse so she could stay the whole weekend without being called in. As she recalled the many patients she had assisted and told them the funny bits, Peter couldn’t help the fluttering feeling in his chest. Magda Maximoff was many things, but carefree wasn’t one of them. Not after the death of one of her children. Back home, his mom worked countless hours as a waitress, preferring to bury herself in work than face her grief. But here, she laughed freely, accompanied by Erik who sometimes completed her stories. His father’s eyes were wrinkled in joy, not grief, and there was a glint in his eyes that he’d never seen before.
This... universe, whatever this place was, had been much kinder to his family.
As soon as the meal was finished, they dismissed both him and Wanda downstairs so they could get everything ready for the night festivities. He played some arcade games, winning at first, but started losing the moment his sister became bored.
“Looks like you’re losing your touch,” she teased.
He turned around with a playful grin on his face. “Of course not, we both know the probabilities of it being me are tiny.”
Wanda pulled her tongue at him and motioned him to sit next to her. She then pointed to a picture on his desk. “I can’t believe you still have that photo; we both look horrible in it.”
While that was technically true, he didn’t really care, it was one of his favorite pictures of them. They were no more than ten years old; their clothes were a mess, and their faces weren’t much better. Their eyes and smiles were immensely wide due to the sugar rush from the Halloween candies they had just eaten. He could see his mom in the reflection of the hallway’s mirror, and funnily enough, Erik was at her side. That meant that his father had been in their life for a long time, forever perhaps?
“Wands?” She hummed in response. “I’m about to ask a really weird question, and I just need you to answer without judgment. Can you do that?”
His twin seemed unsure but nonetheless nodded. “Of course.”
Peter breathed in, trying to figure out how to form his question without sounding crazy. “Has Erik always been with us?”
She frowned with a half-smile on her lips, uncertain if he was joking. “What do you mean?”
“He’s always lived with us? Didn’t go on like a revenge spree or whatever?”
Wanda let out a worried giggle. “Yes, he’s always been here, he’s our father, where else would he be?”
Peter snorted at the irony. “You’d be surprised.”
So, Erik hadn’t hunted down Nazis, he’d stayed here to raise them. That meant that he didn’t have to spring in on the man and break the news. He tallied up his wins: his dad had always been there, his mom was happy, Wanda was alive, and Lorna still loved her family.
Yeah, he could definitely get used to that.

Wanda: Hey dad, quick question...
Erik: Yes?
Wanda: Can a human breathe in a washing machine when it’s on?
Erik:
Wanda: This is...hypothetical, of course-
Erik: Where the fuck is Peter-

Re. this meme:
From the multiverse-twins fic, Wanda reaching out of her cell into Peter's and brushing the hair off his forehead while trying to alleviate the nightmare he's having.
Thank you! 💜 I liked writing that chapter a lot. Poor Wanda doesn’t know that X-Men!Wanda is dead yet, so that’ll be interesting for her to find out. She still thinks she can redeem herself a bit by helping Peter get back to his twin.
(I know I haven’t updated this fic in a long time; I do have a plan for it and I fully intend to update/finish, I just don’t have a timeline for when because the main culprit behind me not posting is my mental health. Huge thanks to everyone reading it for being patient in the meantime!)

Huh, the Groot show isn't canon in the main universe, which means there's nothing stopping Disney from giving us a multiverse-twins show or even reviving the Fox X-Men. Come oooon, Disney, just do it!

The last time Leonardo held his brother, his twin, his Donnie, he had felt him grow colder and colder until the body in his arms could have well been made of ice.
This time, he feels the unconcealed, sharp-edged warmth of Donatello's ninpo against his chest, his neck, his arm – Leonardo would laugh from the joy of it if he wasn't crying.
And he doesn’t know how or why he's doubted all this time if Donatello still was with him, because he knows the shape of this energy, knows the warmth it has provided him through sleepless nights in his train car and even during the day, at times, when their emotions have bled through.
He buries his face into Donatello's shoulder and doesn’t let go. This time, he doesn’t have to. Not until he's ready.
This time, his brother will still be here when he does.
Here you go, the reward for getting NQK past round two of @rottmntpeepawpolls! Thank you for reuniting Leonardo with his twin ahead of time<3
The context for the ficlet is in repeat until death but if you haven't read it yet, please heed the tags and turn back if you need to. I love you!!!

Wundagore Mountain
This was in my draft for a LONG time. A lot happened since I started writing, but here’s my interpretation of how they could have added Peter Maximoff in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness without completely changing the story. Enjoy!
Summary: As she reaches Wundagore Mountain, Wanda finds out that someone is already waiting for her there.
Words: 1103
Tumblr media
Wundagore Mountain was beautiful, it was tall, grandiose, and powerful; it had survived everything the world had thrown at it and came out triumphant. It was a temple made for her. Wanda could feel the way Wong was wary of the place, but she didn’t care; this place wasn’t made for the Sorcerer Supreme. She quietly observed the statues and the engravings in the stone, they were imbued with the very same magic she possessed. It sang in unison, welcoming the one they had been expecting for so long. She let the power of the place envelop her like a shawl, it felt delightful, like she truly belonged here. She walked away from the walls to approach the flat stone surface engraved with runes, picturing the way she would use it to take America Chavez’s powers. A smile bloomed on her face, she might have lost the girl and put Strange against her earlier, but things were starting to look up for her.
“I was starting to wonder if you would actually come,” suddenly said a voice from the darkness.
She whipped her head around in fury, catching Wong’s eyes who seemed completely clueless. The voice made her skin crawl because she knew who it was, and the fact that he had waited here of all places only made her blood boil hotter. Her eyes scanned her surroundings to try to find a glimpse of the impostor, but he was surprisingly well hidden.
“Show yourself,” she ordered, tainting her voice with magic to make sure he’d obey.
However, the only response she had was a light chuckle. “You trying to be tough, sis? There’s a reason why witchy had to use a necklace.”
“You’re not my brother,” she hissed as the ground shook around them from her frustration.
“Maybe not here,” echoed the voice from her left before suddenly coming from her right. “But you’re telling me you don’t feel our connection?”
That damned connection, the one she had blindly believed back in Westview. The one she could still feel at this very moment despite her best effort to ignore it.
“No, I don’t,” she lied. “Everything about you is a lie.”
“Says the one who created an entire world to live out her fantasy,” said the impostor, suddenly sounding a lot closer than he had just a second ago. “Could have done without that.”
“You don’t get to tell me what to do. You’re nothing.”
He scoffed at her remark, before stepping out of the shadows. He didn’t look different from the night he had appeared on her doorstep; save for the now silver jacket he was wearing and the goggles over his eyes. She hated just how unbothered he looked, how unfazed he was by the sheer power surrounding them. But most of all, she despised the fact that her magic didn’t even register him as a threat. It sickened her to realize that it was even worse than that.
Because her magic considered him as family.
She seethed in anger at that thought and shot a spell toward the imposter. The impact resonated around them, shooting rocks everywhere and sending debris high in the air. Wanda walked over to the spot, silently hoping that she had hit her mark, but she disappointingly realized that she had only made a hole in the floor.
“You know, I had a sister too, but she died, like your Pietro.” She turned around to see him casually sitting on the stone altar, one leg folded up and being used as an armrest while the other was dangling down, he wasn’t even looking at her. She used his seemingly distracted state to try to grab him, but he was gone by the time her red wisps reached his spot.
She furiously searched for him and found him leaning against a pillar. “I have to say though, I was promised a chance to see her again, to make things right, but you’re not making it easy.”
“Who promised you that?” Wanda hissed.
“Do you really want an answer?” He spat out. “You tried to kill me twice in the last five minutes alone.”
“Tell me!” She screamed, making the temple tremble under her anger. To her annoyance, there wasn’t even a hint of fear in the man’s face. Even Stephen Strange had the decency to appear frightened, even for just a moment. Was the speedster truly fearless or was he simply stupid?
“Your neighbor, Agatha. She took me from my world, saying that I could save you and make things right. I realized it was a trick too late and she turned me in her puppet.”
She narrowed her eyes at that. “How?”
He scoffed at her as he fidgeted with the cord of his earphones. “You think I’m going to tell you that? I don’t want you messing with my head. Sister or not.”
“We are not family,” she hissed. “My real brother is dead; you’ll never be my Pietro.”
“Likewise,” he snorted, walking away from the pillar. “You’re not exactly living up to the standard my sister set. I mean, hunting down a kid? Not great.”
“You don’t know me! You don’t know my reasoning!” Wanda roared, sending a destructive spell toward the impostor, hoping that it would hit its mark this time. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the case, all she managed was to create a big crater in the floor. Even more frustrating was that he hadn’t even bothered to hide this time. He was standing next to the indentation in the floor, looking down before looking at her with an unimpressed look on his face.
“See ya around sis,” the man started walking away before turning back to her. “If you eventually come out of your little power trip, you know how to contact me.”
Then, the speedster was gone in a blur, sending the dust that had just settled down back in the air. Then the silence was back, leaving her to ponder on everything that had just happened.
“Nice family you got there,” sarcastically remarked Wong.
“He is not my family,” she snapped, her eyes still on the spot her ‘brother’ had been a moment ago. “He is an obstacle in my way and he’s easily disposable, just like you are. So I suggest you think before you speak.”
The sorcerer didn’t reply, he merely rolled his eyes and turned his attention back to the temple, just like she did. Brother or not, that wasn’t what mattered. What did matter, was finding a way to take America Chavez’s powers and get her boys back.
She’d deal with her fake brother later.
