I haven’t yet to draw myself in my new buzzed hair yet so I ended up doing that last night with my idols on my shirt, and my two lizard babies, Bowser the Beardie and Ponyo my Murphy Patternless leopard gecko.
I saw that you tagged my hyper specific poll with a mention of Sunchip (!!) may I please see a picture of Sunchip the leopard gecko, I love pets named after food
Of course!! I'm always down to show any of my little beasties 💚 Sunchip is my oldest boy. He's a rescue, and I'm his at least 5th owner. I estimate him to be a minimum of 6 years old, and I believe he's a murphy's patternless, though I honestly have no idea 😅
She didn’t have any moist moss for her hide until this morning so I took her in the bathroom sink to give her a helping hand and make it a bit easier. First time I’ve caught her shedding in a while!
Still doing okay! I’m mostly nocturnal now, and my keeper doesn’t like to disturb me while I’m sleeping so he sometimes doesn’t see me very often anymore.
He’s also been recovering from surgery, so animal care has been the minimum of what we need (food, spot cleaning, water, etc...) and since I don’t care to be handled much anyway, he’s mostly just let me keep on doing my thing and eating crickets and worms at night.
Are there any unusual things/issues connected with the Murphy patternless morph?
I’ve never found anything that says that MP has any inherent issues, and it’s one of the oldest genes around for leos. I have noticed that they can ‘fire’ up and down a bit more noticeably than some other combos, but that’s not unique just to them.
So Here are the Scaley Pets under the cut for those who dont do reptiles 💖
So first off we have Sobe my rescued Leopard Gecko!
I've had him for the last 7 or so years and I love my tiny dragon. He is considered a 'Murphy's Patternless' Leopard Gecko
This is Miss Alice(Normal Ball Python)
She has been a family pet as she was my sister's, then my brother's and now she is mine! I've known this snake since I was 8 so I've known her longer than I haven't
We then have Noodle and Rigatoni!! The Pasta Bros (Normal Ball Pythons)
These two are from the same clutch! They were a family friend's before I ended up with them when he got evicted. These two are co-habbed(not recommended I know) but when they were separated they stopped eating for close to 3 months.
Weyland my Banana Ball Python
This is my baby! I got him when I was 17(almost 18) and he has gone through several segments of time where he had decided he didn't like one thing or another and stopped eating
Update: As of Oct 4,2022 Weyland is no longer with us. After multiple force feedings, vet visits and environmental adjustments, his prolonged hunger strike has taken him from me.
(Ellen) Ripley my Jungle Carpet Python
My most recently bought girl! I got her off a breeder at a show! She is a sweetheart but is tank agressive
And finally Miss Ginger!
My Okeetee Corn Snake. She was owned by the same lovely people who have me Sobe! Honestly this angry shoelace has gotten so big since I got her and she is amazing
This morph isn't an actual gene like say a pastel ball python but is line bred instead. It consists of being orange starting at the base of the tail (hence "carrot tail") and having it go at least 15% up the length of the tail. The carrot tail usually occurs in other gene morphs which are: the RAPTORs, Murphy Patternless, all of the Tangerine and Hypo morphs, all three albino strains, and now less commonly in Blizzards. I found no info on when/where it was created, but I assume wild caught ones showed it slightly and it was intensified by selective breeding by many breeders at the start of leopard gecko captive breeding. The price on them can vary a lot because it is a line bred trait that occurs in many genes, but you can find something like a super hypo tangerine carrot tail yearling for $70-80.
