yknow i dislike so much of totk's story and framing and zelda's inclusion in the past and etc but... the very basic storyline of 'Ganondorf had an incarnation at the start of Hyrule who refused to acknowledge their authority, had a bit of war with them, then tried to fuck them up via murdering someone for magic about it'? just feels SO right if you just end it with him getting killed, not sealed away. both from 'this would play great w/get corrupted into part of the narrative of the Gerudo not heeding the gods and refusing to humble themselves to partake in divine gifts etc' perspective and as something that could inform koume and kotake and ganondorf from OoT.
(obv you'd have to make either hyrule's history way shorter or koume and kotake's lives way longer (or change the time to not the founding of hyrule, but some sort of re-formulation/new royal line establishing?)
but the idea that koume and kotake saw their king die trying to defy Hyrule, while SOME PEOPLE (the sage of lightning) pathetically grovelled for their lives (tried to do desperate damage control) explains like, so much about them, and OoT Ganondorf's plan scans perfectly as 'I'm going to make up for that defeat by doing it better'. He's willing to play a longer game with fake fealty, be more crafty. He'll use any tools at his disposal--except the Gerudo, who he'll keep at arms' length (no endangering them on the battlefield like old days, he's such a good king, ignore all the other ways he's endangering them). And despite the kingdom's weakened state, he's not going to go half-assed about the magic he grabs, no, he is going for the TRIFORCE. hyrule won't have a chance to take him down because he'll have won from the moment he touches it. suck it, ganondorf the first

god. my favorite thing with my version of Ganondorf is his power not quite being a plague but rather a permanence.
his hands brushing reeds and it turns white as though shocking its color from its fiber, a field of silver left where he walks for generations that grows in on itself, out on itself, learning to live regardless. an insect swarm comes to him and leaves him with a violent coordination of those minds altered. punished or blessed beasts finding their eyes seeing a kind of sight they were not born with but given, rewired, cats given a dogs eyes, dogs given crows. he takes the quill and its ink and the ink writes itself into the essence of its parchment like an oath, an oath to stay, a promise on a future it is determined to stay in at his word, at his command. he may be corruption he may be ancient upon evil upon spite that does not die; that cannot die; but he is a memory you cannot get rid of, a history that aches in the bones of the land, a monument unmovable.
he is a bitter loathed selfish truth but you cannot make him pretty, you cannot make him gone. a lesson to keep learning. a person immortalized without body, without name. he inhales and you hold your breath. he speaks and you listen. he exhales and you see the world change. his personhood will never outlast him, who he is a footnote on a list of unimaginable enormities, but his single presence is a fact in a sea of shining lies. he is not pretty, but he has always been beautiful.
you who will not love him, but you who will know he was here. where you are. a hundred years ago. a hundred years ahead.
you tell him to apologize for his own birth, and he laughs, and says I was born, and you will be born knowing me, and you will die knowing me. the way gods are legend. the way he is history.

Also I'm so sorry to the devs but I've spent way too much time with gan being the annoying big brother to be intimidated by him I've spent this entire game grinding my teeth and asking when I get to decapitate him

Remember
Remember
“Don’t look away,” Growled Ganondorf, “you-”
“You don’t remember.” Said the Hylian, Link, frowning at Ganondorf.
“What?” Sneered Ganondorf, livid at being interrupted.
“You don’t remember.” Repeated Link, sighing with the Sages staring at him in confusion, “We’ve been through this time and time and time again. Since the dawn of the world and across the timelines. We know each other, more than you think.”
“I don’t know what your blathering about.” Snarled Ganondorf, as Link quietly pulled a spring from a Zonai capsule.
Link sighed, “Okay, let’s see what you do remember, because I don’t want to fight someone who doesn’t know why he’s the biggest prick in the world.”
Ganondorf went to grab his sword, when the ‘sword of legend’ flashed.
“Calm down, Fi, we’re still going to kill him.” Dismissed Link, frowning at Ganondorf, “You’re still going to die, do you remember being stabbed in the head by a child in green?”
Ganondorf stared at Link, getting another sigh, “Obviously not, how about nearly being disembowelled by an angsty looking wolf?”
Ganondorf just unsheathed his sword.
“Alright, how about drawing your sword from your servant’s chest and vanishing into another plane?” Said Link, drawing the Master Sword.
Ganondorf froze, suddenly finding himself in a throne room launching an orb of energy at a young man in green, while a princess hung in a pink crystal suspended above them. He then felt a searing pain in his chest, the man in green looked different, vastly different, but he could tell it was the same person.
“You’re starting to remember,” Mused Link, readying for the impending battle, “good.”
Ganondorf felt himself getting up from the ground, the man in green different once again, glaring up at him. He glanced at his hand, freezing at the sight of a triangle on the back of it. He shook his head and snarled at Link, “Get out of my head, you welp!”
Link dodged the swing, parrying the blade away from him.
Ganondorf was at the top of a castle, water pouring down around him, fighting two children, a princess aiming a bow at him, while a boy in green launched himself into the hair and ramming his sword in his forehead.
Ganondorf yelled, throwing himself at Link and the Sages.
R
“Link?” Asked Riju, looking at him as they examined Ganondorf’s lifeless body, “Two questions, how did he turn back? I thought the dragon-ifying thing was permanent, and what were you talking about back there?”
“Just some old history Rij.” Dismissed Link, looking at the back of Ganondorf’s right hand, “Things between him and I just span more than one lifetime.”
Zelda prodded Ganondorf’s eye with a stick.
“Zel, I’m waving his hand around, I’m sure he’s dead.” Protested Link, as he accidentally nudged the hilt of a broken sword. Ganondorf’s body twitched, getting a scream from some of the assembled crowd and an arrow to the eye from Tulin.
“For the love of Din, he’s already dead!” Groaned Link, as Tulin looked at him.
“He twitched.”
“He twi- Of course he twitched,” Yelled Link, grabbing the hilt of the broken sword, “He’s got a sword embedded in his nervous system!”
Ganondorf’s body twitched with each movement of the sword.

Linked Arena-Part 1
(From the perspective of Masks or the Hero of Time)
Thud. Thud. Thud.
“Coming!”
Link rushed to the door of the ranch and swung it open to see a cloaked figure there. Rain poured outside, pattering on their hood and soaking everything. “What do you need?” Link asked, leaning slightly against the door.
“I have something for you.” The cloaked figure told him quietly.
Link’s eyes narrowed. “For me? From who?”
“It’s a message. You’ll know who it’s from when you read it.” The cloaked figure insisted and pulled out an envelope.
Link took the envelope, curiosity getting the better of him. The symbol of the Triforce was stamped onto the envelope.
Interesting.
“So this is from the royal family? Who are-“ When Link looked up the cloaked figure was gone.
“Fairy boy?” Malon called and hurried over. “Who was that?”
“I don’t know.” Link replied and shoved the envelope down into his pocket before Malon could see it.
“Was it another solicitor? There have been so many of them coming to the ranch.” Malon huffed, scowling.
“…Yeah.” Link answered uneasily.
His wife sighed and grabbed a sign. “I’m going to put this up now. Hopefully they get the message.”
Link watched as Malon left, sign in her hands.  He pulled out the envelope and teared the top off. He had never really been patient with these small things.
Hero of Time
You bested the evil man Ganondorf, and the ugly creature Majora.
You defied time and fate with the intent to save others.
You have proven how strong you are…Yet…
Many heroes have risen up to defeat evil, whether it be before your time, or after your time.
They are also incredibly strong…All of their hearts are pure. Just like yours.
Where am I going with this? You’re probably asking…
All of you heroes must fight each other in an arena I have prepared.
The winner will be gifted the Triforce.
More details will be explained at the right time, but train as hard as you can Hero of Time.
Your opponents are no pushovers.
The letter wasn’t signed. The piece of paper slipped out of his shaky hands and fell slowly to the ground. “A f***ing arena?!”
Malon peeked back inside, looking concerned. “Link? What are you talking about?”
Link grabbed the letter and ripped it into pieces and then stormed off. “Wait! Link!” Malon called rushing to him and grabbing his arm. “Tell me what’s happening.”
“She wants me to go fight in an arena against other heroes. The prize is the Triforce.” Link growled.
Malon’s eyes went wide. She certainly wasn’t expecting that. “You don’t have to go, right?”
“I hope so.” He murmured his anger fading a little.
Malon picked up the shredded pieces of paper and threw them away. Link sat down at the table, fists clenched. “You know…maybe there is some good to this arena fight.” Malon mused.
“What?”
“Hear me out! You’d be able to make sure that Ganondorf doesn’t come back. Ever. You could make sure that Hyrule stays a kingdom of peace.” Malon explained, hope shining in her eyes.
Link wanted to immediately reject the idea but she had a point. “Of course if you don’t want to, don’t. I just…want you to feel at peace instead of going away every month to fight something and coming back with various injuries.” Malon admitted.
“I’ll do it.” He decided, deadpanning.
“You sure you want to do this?” Malon asked, only care and love in her features.
Link nodded and hugged her. “I’ll be back as soon as possible.”
“You better be.” She replied and let him pull away.
Malon kissed his cheek and walked away. Link sighed and grabbed his bag and a sword, and then he walked outside. He looked up at the sky, eyes blazing with determination. “I’m ready, Hylia.”
Right in front of him reality crumbled and stretched so there was a hole in the air. He walked through and saw a dungeon-like room. Other Hylians, kids and adults sat there, keeping to themselves. None of them even spared a glance at Link. Link sat down in a similarly manner, since he wasn’t going to be the one to break the silence. A light filled the dim dungeon and a woman walked through. She had white long hair and golden eyes, her dress was more like a robe, a white robe with golden details on it. “Heroes.” She thundered.
Everyone looked at her. “Welcome to my arena. You have chosen to come here and fight and I commend you for that.” She smiled. “After this there is no going back. Nothing you say or do will take you back to your home. I will give you one finally opportunity to leave.” Her voice irritated him. It was like she was taunting them.
No one moved. “Very well. Here is how this will work.” She turned around and revealed an arena.
It was bare but lights illuminated the ground and seats surrounded the battleground. A barrier separated the seats from the battleground. “There will be rounds. You will not die at first…only if you are not the last one standing at the end of these rounds. You will fight each other, in duos. The winning duo will gain a point. The duo that has the most points at the end will face off against each other. Whoever wins that will get the Triforce. Make sense?” She finished.
“I have to work with one of my opponents?” The one with the blonde and pink hair scowled.
“Yes. This will truly test your physical and mental abilities. Now, I will give you a few days to train and rest before the battles begin. There should be rooms with your names on them. You will share a room with your teammate.” She demanded.
After that the heroes split up and Link searched through the hallways for his name. He found his room. The sign read:
Hero of Time, Hero of Legend
Link walked inside to see the room split into two sides. One had Link’s belongings and was decorated to his own preference. The other side had tons of bags spread out across the bed. There seemed to be a theme of bunnies. Suddenly the door burst open and the blonde and pink haired hero walked in. He sat down on his bed and sighed.
Should Link say something? Introduce himself?
“So, we’re a team, huh?” The blonde and pink haired hero spoke, surprising Link.
“It seems so. I take it you’re the Hero of Legend?” Link replied.
“Don’t like being called that but yeah.” He responded something bitter in his tone.
“So what do I call you?” Link asked.
“I’m Link.” The Hero of Legend answered.
“…Funny thing is that my name is Link as well.” Link told him dryly.
The Hero of Legend merely huffed, not surprised. “I guess we need nicknames then.”
“Hmm.” Link responded, thinking.
“I think you could be nicknamed Mask or Masks or something like that. You seem like the mysterious type.” The Hero of Legend shrugged.
That was…fitting. “Sure. Call me Masks.” Masks decided.
Masks took a look at the Hero of Legend and his side of the room. “Reverie.” Masks said out loud.
“What?” A shadow crossed over the Hero of Legend’s face.
“I think you could be called Reverie…maybe Rev for short?” Masks suggested.
The Hero of Legend thought for a moment before nodding. “That works. Call me Rev.”
“This is going to be long. I can already tell something’s off.” Masks sighed. “But no matter. We should discuss strategies for the upcoming battles.”
“It’s important to get rest before you strategize or fight. We’ll rest first then discuss.” Rev retorted.
Masks purses his lips but nodded. “Fine then.”
Rev curled up into his bed and closed his eyes, Masks following in suit. Suddenly a scream filled the air and Masks eyes flew open. “What was that?” He asked no one in particular.
“I’m going to check it out. There’s no telling what happens in this place.” Rev ran off and Masks followed, both curious and concerned.
“Why would you do that?!” Someone screeched.

"I hate you," the boy hisses across the span of years. It's a bitter thing, his voice raspy like he's not used to using it.
Ganondorf smiles faintly. Yes, he thinks. At last; a genuine reaction. It's the kind of thing he wants, the attention he craves. He might win, he might lose in the end, but what matters is that he leaves an impact.
He's died too many times now, over and over, to not know it, in some way.
But something shifts in his understanding. He looks at the boy more carefully; not in person. The boy speaks not to Ganondorf, but to a Bokoblin, to a Lizalfos or a Keese he spotted almost a moment too late.
The boy whispers his hatred, time and time again. He swings his weapon, one arm gangly; too big for his body, miscolored and wrong on his frame-
The vision ends, and Ganondorf, connected through his puppet-soldiers through the same power that gives them life, could still feel the heat on the boy's breath, and the venom in his words.
No, he thinks. This wasn't just part of the game; the Goddess' soldier sent against him.
This was personal.
In his memory, he sees the eyes of the boy.
Something about them looks... old. Older than even he. Feral, yes; almost the gaze of a wild beast, something that wants to run and bite and howl and dwell in the dark places, hunting and running forever. He is not comfortable in the civilized world, Ganondorf reckons in the understanding that has served him well in the political games that brought him to this point.
Someone might look at this boy; he is short and slight, his features frail and ethereal. There might be some Zonai in his blood, unimaginably ancient, and it lends his features a slightly alien cast, but he looks like a single blow would break him in half. A rabbit in Hylian form, one might say.
He knows better. He sees those furious eyes, the teeth bared like the boy wants to lunge across the world and sink his teeth into Ganondorf's throat (and isn't Ganondorf pleased, to have such a fierce nemesis). He knows a wolf when he sees one.
Later, he hears of the fate of the Champions and muses, Ah. A wolf that outlived his pack. And he remembers long ago, an old huntress of the Gerudo warning them that when slaying wolves, either leave them alone or kill them all. A wolf that survives its pack never forgets, and it will be there hunting you. Hating you, and waiting.
Older than Ganondorf ten thousand years ago, many times older than that.
(If Ganondorf had thought to bother speaking with the Yiga, they might have told him this:
The Shrine of Resurrection invoked a terrible price. You came back, yes.
All of you.
Every lifetime. Every death, every life you'd ever lived, the entire cycle you'd gone through, burned into your memory.)
And now:
Now, as his travels take him, Link stands alone.
The Sages are with him; in spirit and in physical form, when he needs it. But for now, he wants to be alone. He stands atop a mountain, where once he had fought a red-maned Lynel over and over as the blood moon rose and then fell.
A statue is there. A Zora woman stares kindly down at him, immortalized in stone.
He stares and stares and stares.
A thought flickers, burning hatefully in his mind. He thinks of a big and boisterous Goron laughing so loud it shakes the walls, and he thinks 'Brother'. He thinks of a soaring archer, daring him to do better, threatening to leave him in the dust, and even that was a friendship all its own. He thinks of a Gerudo woman, stately and kind and laughing in the high winds-
He stares at the statue. He doesn't cry. Some part of him, though, badly wants to. But its hard, now. It's a gulf inside him, something painful and bitter and cold.
He thinks, I was going to be married.
He sits down, half-turning towards the distant sight of Hyrule Castle choked in one man's malice, and he lets himself stew in what he has lost.

FSR Rambles 11 big brain moments
Tumblr media
Immediately going from Gannon's rant we wake up...SOMEWHERE.
That iconic triforce symbol glows on Shadow Link's hand.
Uh oh.
Ganondorf rants to himself smth he says during the Twilight Princess manga.
Tumblr media
Hello Ganondorf! :D
Alright let's dissect the shit Ganondorf says real quick.
Panel 1: He's talking about Link, obviously. Who unlike Ganondorf and Zelda (Sometimes...Twilight Princess Zelda outright calls OOT Zelda herself/her so...) doesn't/never seems to remember their endless reincarnation....Which I have some THOUGHTS ON WHY but we might get to that when it's more relevant. Just keep it in your back pocket that Link never remembers "His" previous adventures.
Ganondorf's the same Ganondorf from OOT in Akira's manga series, we dunno how much FSR Zelda currently knows about her endless reincarnation because she has the soul of Hylia in her,
Panel 2: Shadow Link has never seen Ganondorf in his human form. That's established with his lines of confusion. He clearly RECONIZES him either through his presence or voice though.
Panel 3: Ganondorf ignores Shadow's question to keep rambling.
"I even thought...Two can play the split ourselves in pieces game..."
He's clearly referencing the FIRST time a Link used the four sword, as there's a previous hero of the Four Sword mentioned at the start of the FS Manga. (That's my interpretation since there's two different four swords games, SOME people think he meant the Minish Cap Link but...I disagree strongly with that shit ngl and I think the ONLY reason that idea exists is because we never got a manga for the first Four Swords game but the SEQUEL for whatever reason...? As minish cap Link was a child when he went on his journey and looked NOTHING like the OOT style adult hero we saw in the "Flashback/story" scene in FS. I'm like 99% sure it was referencing the hero from the FIRST Four Swords game because the four swords manga we HAVE is based on Four Swords Adventures from what I can tell?)
Either way, in FSR he's refencing THAT Link as the reason why he...split himself in pieces.
"This game of ours gets boring after awhile...We have to make new rules...invite new players, mix things up..."
So, this is why he used Vaati. Vaati was the "New player"
Technically an old player brought directly into the Triforce gang's bullshit as Vaati used to be a solo villain from what I understand removed from Gannon.
Shadow Link could ALSO be a part of these "New players" he's talking about.
Either way Gannon's view on the endless cycle has seemingly shifted to a "Game". A game he wants to win, obviously.
If you want a reason why he'd try taking this outlook: Dude's coping hard, he keeps losing. Looking at it like a childish game makes him retain SOME sanity he's shed after getting his ass kicked so many times. As he clearly shed a LOT of his humanity to become the pig form in the OG manga without ANY PROMTING Usually that's like, a second phase of the fight Something's different about Ganon in FSA compared to usual.
Panel 4:
Ganon muses he didn't think "A part of him" would play "Their" side.
He's obviously talking about Shadow Link at this point aiding Zelda and Link. But the dread of what Gannon's saying hasn't truly set in yet.
Panel 5:
So in Twilight Princess, Spoilers Gannon just like, straight kills himself when he feels he's losing. Man is a massive piss baby.
He does something similar here. "CAN'T KEEP ME IN A SWORD IF I END MYSELF HAHAHAHA" - Gannon.
But...There's still a part of Gannon around...As he passes the Triforce of power (Something he admits he cannot stand in Twilight Princess, if nothing else BECAUSE it ties him to Zelda and Link who have Wisdom and Courage respectively.)
So while not outright CONFORMING FSR Link and FSR Zelda HAVE the Triforce, it's heavily implied they do. Zelda at least, had it on her hand earlier in the comic. (With an outdated design of her haha but it still counts here. Haven't been any major ret cons as of rn in FSR and I'd mention any if they do come up hah)
Tumblr media
Ganon not so subtly references the conversation Vio and Shadow had about the Triforce where Shadow admitted he wanted it to make his wishes come true.
Tumblr media
Which just, with current context really puts into perspective that little desire of his.
Also, it's even FUNNIER that he says he wants to touch the Triforce...While being all over Vio. Who has a piece of the Triforce of courage.
Yes that was intentional and yes I was laughing my absolute ass off while drawing/writing those scenes...I was shaking that I couldn't mention that for so long lmfaooooooo.
He's a part of Gannon. Of course he wants the Triforce.
Shadow still looks like he's comprehending shit. I mean this is a LOT to take in. All this time he assumed he was NOTHING but Link's shadow. But NOW we know he's not only Link's Shadow, but a part of Gannon as well.
Tumblr media
Ganon congrats our little man.
He gets to wield the title of the Demon King AND the Triforce of power! :D HOW LUCKY...HE GOT TWO THINGS HE WANTED! :D
BEING THE KING AND THE TRIFORCE!!!
Oh...Shadow isn't a fan of that. Especially at Gannon's prospect that he should destroy Link.
Lines that are hilarious with this new context go brr:
Tumblr media
Haha- Well he IS A KING-
Tumblr media
Vio just look to your left.
Tumblr media
"I've done infinitely worse in past lives pal-"
Tumblr media
Literally this entire scene has new meaning with how VISERIALLY ANGRY he is at the prospect they just gotta do what they have to because "it's what we're supposed to do".
Shadow Link's behavior in general in current day in FSR is just, makes much more sense with the context he KNOWS he's a part of Gannon.
His desperate urge to be nice, seemingly TOO NICE?
Well, he's trying to reject the idea he has to destroy the heroes and wants to be helpful and good.
Tumblr media
Translation: "I don't have to be Gannon if you don't have to be Link"
Also smth you'll notice in the Gannon talks to Shadow pages: Shadow's eyes are red the whole time just like when was talking to Vaati.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shadow's ending state in FS was a form of torture and you can't convince me otherwise.
He's in misery.
Tumblr media
Fucked up thing to note: Shadow link feels he deserves to suffer.
We're not given his full thoughts on WHY but we can either assume because of his actions in the FSA manga OR because he's Gannon.
That's just sad.
Link's catatonic like usual.
Shadow likens Link's state to a corpse that's rotting which is, disturbing.
Unlike Gannon, he isn't getting any pleasure watching the Hero rot away mentally.
Tumblr media
Oof. Yeah. What good's the Triforce of power when you can't use it to save someone?
You'll notice Shadow defaults to waving to get people's attention. What else can he do?
Link notices and touches him.
Which again: We know from Shadow's brief breakdown in the temple this isn't something he did a lot.
We can venture to guess from these pages, Link was usually just, not there mentally a lot of the time to notice Shadow Link and he wasn't filling the gaps because Shadow couldn't talk, because Link went mute after awhile.
Either way Shadow cherishes the times where Link acknowledges him.
If you go back and read the pages where Shadow's talking about his time with Link the main thing he talks about is how LONELY he felt.
He doesn't actually talk about Link's behavior in a negative way per say...Mostly that HE was lonely.
Tumblr media
Like from the wording he isn't exactly BASHING Link for ignoring him, just expressing how it made him feel in the moment.
And from here we can see Shadow understands just how poorly Link was doing.
Tumblr media
He wants to hug him-
Shadow wants to be comforted and to comfort but can't do or get either.
Poor dude is suffering.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shadow dissects his feelings.
Vio's promise struck a cord with this dude for a lot of reasons, partially because Gannon as we know from Twilight Princess REALLY wanted Zelda to join him/another Triforce user to join him cobbled with Shadow Link himself loneliness and inability to trust his teammates led to Vio's promise of ruling the world basically made him explode with joy lol.
Gannon's literally always playing this "Game" alone. Shadow Link is lonely from his own experiences and from Gannon's. He actually doesn't MIND the idea they're all gonna be spending eternity together forever, he just doesn't wanna be locked in fighting them lmfao.
Art notes: Shadow's eyes look like Gannondorf's eyes in page 207 the "I want to be close to you Link" panel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zelda and Vio/Link have had a positive affect on Shadow Link as a person, so instead of 100% hating them like Gannondorf does he has a mixed bag of emotions towards them.
Another art note:
Page 208 Shadow's eyes look like the Malice eyeballs from BOTW/TOTK
Shadow Link interprets his own feelings as him wanting to be close to Zelda and Link/Vio due to his own loneliness. He's the new demon king and he doesn't want to further their fated connection through hatred alone.
Shadow's further thoughts on being Ganon and the affects it has on his behavior going forward are for sure going to be present so if something wasn't brought up here/expanded upon, it probs will later.
Something to note is Shadow's KNOWN he's a from of Gannon for 7 years and HASN'T Told any of the gang yet...Which is interesting.
Not like he could SAY that before and they've still only been separated for a day but still.
More art notes: The way they're structured in 208, is in the shape of the Triforce. Shadow on "Top" representing the Triforce of power, Zelda to the left representing wisdom and Link to the right representing courage.
It is interesting to note how Vio and Link are interchangeable in Shadow's mind at least in this instance...
From his further thoughts in 209 it's implied he's SPECICICALLY talking about Vio, but Link is still pictured...So Hm.
Tumblr media
So it bares repeating Vio booked it to Shadow Link the second he saw him because of their unfinished business hah.
Further idea:
Shadow doesn't purely means "Vio's here" as the "dream" he's talking about.
He has a physical body again after 7 years. He's not a prisoner to his own mind anymore and has the ability to affect the world around him.
He was completely stripped of agency and ironically enough "Power" for 7 years.
Like Vio, someone he loves being there is nice too but I don't wanna understate how important Shadow's relationship to Link himself is either.
As in the series so far Shadow's blatantly done the things he stated he wishes he could have done for Link in the pages previous TO Vio because, he has the ability to now.
Basically: We don't need to shoot down Shadow's 7 year long relationship with Link just to bolster Vio and Shadow's.
Tumblr media
Stalker lmfao.
So it's interesting to note he CRIED from Shadow's memories.
Weird moment for Dark Link. It's odd he even cried at all. He has an actual personality outside of just batting people's anxieties and fears back at them after all.
He himself seems rather calm but if you notice, his chest eyeball looks deeply emotional over it.
Question to ask: Is he crying from joy or sadness? Or some third thing?
Did he even realize he was crying? He didn't wipe his tears away.
You'll note, instead of just purely calling Shadow "the traitor" as he did earlier, he switches to calling him his title + traitor lmfao. "Treacherous demon king" he changes his language to be more accurate to his new information about Shadow Link.
Another thing: Dark Link isn't INTERACTING with Shadow Link here like he did with Vio. How he approached it was purely as a spectator.
He's not mentally fucking with Shadow here.
Which shows an odd sense of, genuine interest about Shadow's past that didn't exist earlier with Vio when he purely only said things to make Vio break down.
HE was watching those flashbacks with us and soaking in the information. He has a better understanding of Vio AND Shadow because he can see from BOTH their perspectives as you noticed...and Vaati's.
But that cute little fact isn't important rn.
And with all that word vomiting we will pick up again another time.

Post-TOTK Musings (TOTK Spoilers)
I think the reason Zelda didn't burst into tears at the end of the final boss fight was because she just caught up in the moment. She was hyperfocused on the immediate results of everything that had transpired: her centuries-long plan had succeeded, Link had destroyed Ganondorf, and she was back to her normal self again and eager to tell Link about her adventures in the past.
I don’t think the full impact of everything Zelda did in the past would have hit her until she returned to Hateno and reunited with all the friendly faces she had been so accustomed to prior to the Upheaval: the villagers, the children, Symin, etc. Seeing all their faces again and returning to her and Link’s house (and maybe seeing the new one Link built for just the two of them in her absence) would probably make her realize everything she would have left behind had Link et al not reversed her draconification. She formed all those bonds with the villagers through acts of kindess and earned the love and respect of the children by giving them a genuine love of learning like the kind she had her whole life. With Link, she had carved out a home where she could live comfortably and just be herself, doing research on whatever in privacy. The realization that she would have lost all that permanently would probably hit her like a sledgehammer. She wouldn’t just feel bad about herself, but she’d consider how devastated all those people (especially Link and the schoolchildren) would have been at the possibility of her being gone forever. After struggling with feelings of low self-esteem for most of her life, she would probably realize for the first time in her life that she actually matters as a person and that Hyrule is a better place with her in it.
Zelda would also come to realize just how much Rauru and Sonia meant to her. We don’t see her grieve either of them much in-game (likely due to time constraints), but it’s possible she mourned their losses somewhat before undergoing draconfication. But imagine how she must feel about them knowing that they enabled Link to turn her back to normal after thousands of years. Thousands of years ago, they promised to help her find a way home to “put Link’s mind at ease,” and not even death stopped them from fulfilling that promise. They were the parents she had dreamed of having her whole life, and in the end they did for her what Rhoam never could: they saved her. Her love for them would increase tenfold and she’d make sure that they would never be relegated to the dustbins of history.
And of course I can’t overlook her now-increased love for Link. If she ever had any reservations or inhibitions about tying the knot with Link, those reservations would be gone for good by now. She put all her faith in him to carry out her final wish, and he succeeded with flying colors. And not only that, he never gave up on her. Most people probably would have called it fate and declared her a lost cause, but Link didn’t consider his journey over until he had Zelda, the beautiful, nerdy princess he fell in love with hundreds of years ago, back in his life. They’re ride or die for one another, and they’ll never leave each other ever again.

Fluid musings about the trailer that I’m still continuously adapting after sitting on the thoughts for a while and peering around at other people’s interpretations...
ONE: The Ouroboros as part of the title card.
Many have said it before, but I think the chances of BotW Link and Zelda either being connected to, deeply influencing the actions of, or BECOMING ancient Link and Zelda is very likely now.
One definition for the meaning of this symbol is: “a gnostic and alchemical symbol that expresses the unity of all things, material and spiritual, which never disappear but perpetually change form in an eternal cycle of destruction and re-creation.” This theme lines up really well with the reincarnation cycle of Legend of Zelda, and with the idea that our BotW Link and Zelda we know may change form in some way to become part of the beginning of their own cycle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do think it’s INCREDIBLY relevant to mention that the traditional ouroboros is one serpent eating its own tail, but this logo has two serpents eating each other’s tails. This brings me a lot of hope that Zelda will have a role in this game just like Link- it won’t be just ONE of them connected to the past, it’ll be both of them.
TWO: This may not be Zelda.
Tumblr media
This figure’s pose reminds me a lot of Ganondorf’s body caught in an uncomfortable stasis underground. The hair looks different by the ear and there is a necklace seen that isn’t with the figure below, which seems more likely to be a Zelda. It also doesn’t look like there is a collar piece on the figure below’s outfit, but there is here. Or... it could be just weird little differences in the mural + perspective, who knows.
Tumblr media
THREE: I’m very curious if there is some plot reason for these dead trees at the right.
Tumblr media
The trees on the island ahead are all filled with vibrant life, golden leaves... and the trees on the island to the right are... void of life. The landscape there looks a lot more rugged and barren. Is there a reason for this? Will this be a progressive change on these islands above... symbolizing corruption, or are there simply different types of scenery across all the islands?
FOUR: What are these for??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The new item hanging on Link’s belt in place of the Sheikah slate is this funky little device. There look to be eight slots in which these glowing green canisters can hang. The golden decorations on the canisters have the same aesthetic as Link’s new arm. In this shot, four of the slots are filled, and the others are empty. If it’s hanging in place of the slate, then does this have a gameplay mechanics relation? Or could it be a storage solution for whatever main plot collectables Link needs to obtain via dungeons? Or... a 4 spirit orbs = power up situation, where you need to fill all canisters to get an upgrade?
I’m also very curious where and from whom Link gets this from.
FIVE: Hylia? Someone else? Tears?
Tumblr media
Who is this? Is that headpiece their face, or a magnificent mask? It kind of reminds me of a moth, in design. I’ve been seeing a lot of folks say this could be a depiction of Hylia, but the design doesn’t entirely resemble what we’ve seen of her, IMO. I’m more suspicious it could be someone entirely new. Regardless though, this figure seems to be holding aloft seven tear shapes, which might be the titular “tears of the kingdom.”
But what ARE the tears of the kingdom? What power may they hold? What would happen should they be stripped away? Is this figure offering them, or taking them? Is this figure friend or foe?
Tumblr media
I previously went “omg what if this figure on the left is ancient Link” but now I can see the same hair and headpiece motifs as in the previous photo. They’re the same person. And the figure on the right is making some sort of contact with Ancient Zelda (?), and there are two twin tears above them. Is this a peace offering? A draining of energy? A meeting of allies? A meeting of enemies? It’s hard to say as of now. And are these two of the seven tears seen above, or two extra tears? Do the tears represent places or people, or are they actual obtainable objects?
Many, many questions.

For the three sentence prompt: Defenestrate
The world was more beautiful than she could have ever imagined. A fresh springtime rain had made the grass greener than any foliage she had seen in the castle gardens, and as the breeze blew the blades waved at her in succession, a cascade of cheer and welcome rippling again and again. Raindrops still glittered on a few patches, dazzlingly bright in the sunlight, sparkling like the priceless jewels of her parents' crowns. Birdsong filled the air, a familiar sound but with a feral energy to it, a freedom that she'd never before experienced. Trees sat together in clusters in distant areas, an invitation of mystery and adventure and something new.
But there were blotches in the painting. Off to the right, she could see the littered remains of what had once been a watch post. Another one was being constructed nearby, though the area had been cleared for her to explore. A pile of construction material lay awaiting use, the promise of a barrier between her city and her castle and the dangers of the world outside.
All her life she'd wanted freedom. All her life she'd wanted to guide her people and to see her people, to see the world they lived in, to be a part of that world. All her life she'd dreamed of this moment, of the moment that she could finally leave the castle and the parade grounds and smell the wildflowers in the air, taste the wind and laugh with the fairies as they flew by.
As she gently walked through the grass with bare feet, basking in the sensation, she found herself enlivened and drained all at once. This was a beautiful moment, an amazing moment, but the cost at which she paid for it...
Zelda glanced back, hair caught in her face as the breeze played with it, and she caught sight of two Sheikah warriors in the distance, keeping watch. Link and Impa were her most trusted allies and, dare she say it, friends, and together they had managed to defenestrate the king.
Her imprisonment was traded for her father's. She had to throw him in a cell to be able to do this.
His angry shouts still echoed in her ears, but the sight of her stalwart guards standing in the distance brought her peace. She turned back to look at the world she'd sacrificed her family to save.
Freedom was hers at last. And, she mused as she looked back at the wounds of the recent battle, she would ensure it was everyone's soon enough.
This war would end under her rule, and Ganondorf would be defeated.
Alternatively, in a different Hyrule...
Link had to admit, defenstrate the princess of Hyrule had not been on his to-do list today, but as the girl tried to use her magic to fight a damn darknut, it was just about his only option.
Her squeal of protest as she flew out the window was pretty entertaining, at least.

❛ you have never seen such heathens. ❜ Kohga says with a grin, referring to the Yiga. (For Ganondorf!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Oh, I have borne witness, both alike and distinct, to many." Ganondorf's answer comes like thunder, like fire. ━ a low rumble turned crackle turned air buzzing with too much and yet not enough all at once, an anticipation that followed him as he swept 'cross the grounds. For an individual of his size, he is almost weightless in his shifting, almost wilting to scrape high the roof of the ruins not high enough where the stones meet strands of red bristling off from his crown. Each footfall accentuated; the bleaching of stone & textile, the delicacy in which he revokes it, pulled back out of the earth as though a stain so simple to be removed. ━ how considerate it was, for Gods to fuss and worry over hospitalities.
he casts a glance to the Yigas master, eyes stunning and bright and terrible, curls of crimson mane licking up into color undefined, like blazing divinity, how inexpressible it could be, to see something of divinity wrapped in bone & skin & cloth. there is a wonder, if this is what being in the presence of Princesses or Heroes is like, the same divinity in the opposite way ━ the Hero always more human, not God, merely blessed, champion in this way ━ where Ganondorf was his own, but they were theirs. Two against one, eternal.
Tumblr media
"None, however, as impassioned as you," he continues "I would consider it something of respect, that you could harbor such liveliness for so long."
He wonders; passingly in the low light of twilight bleeding into the hideout as it is full with noise & distraction & color and as fabric folds with his limbs as he moves to sit, content to watch the clan breathe with itself; how much the Yiga would be willing to risk in such devotion to their goal. ━ everything, until everything is too much, until the world turns on them again. ━ Again. how it has before. how it could again, forever worse to do. How Ganondorf knows something similar, burning in his blood. ( perhaps Kohga knows the feeling. )
He finds himself beginning to understand, why it is they come looking for him.
his eyes, momentary in their focus on their leader, find somewhere else to settle. ( and he finds himself wondering, just as passing to reserve it for less occupied times, just how long the Yiga will last as they are. Resourceful and fast and stubborn, but tracing edges of impermanence, the way everything does, is made to. Except him, of course. Except him. ━ he likes to think, sentiment more than hope, that their stretch of being will not be killed, so much as it does not stay the same; the definition changing. 'the Yiga' not as a weapon, not a sharpness and outracing and hidden, 'the Yiga' as a people allowed to be people, to be families, to stay. He likes to think, in the way it could be hope, that they will not be like him forever. They, to grow out of shunning. Him, to stay the same. He likes to think, in the way it is hope, that one day they will not need him. ━ a scar of history, remembered always, but only, only a scar. )
"... but are they always this rambunctious?"

okay so since there are a few hylia’s ( i can count about four ? 2 new & 2 from mutuals on side blogs or side muses … im sure there will be more , hell i wanna write a hylia too lol ) so imma write out how ray actually feels about hylia as clear as i can . i don’t really have a problem with hylia myself ? my only problem with her is her being added late into the games but skyward sword is old like me now so im over it . ( i do dislike that we just forgot demise but imma pretend he’s still here hush— @harbingered for my demise 👀 i will pay attention to him i swear )
ray HATES hylia . perhaps the most out of the gods & deities of the world . he curses her & blames her for a lot of things even when she clearly isn’t to blame . he uses her like a scapegoat . someone to point the anger he feels at when there is no one else to blame but himself . he’ll blame her for the troubles zelda goes through , or link or even ganondorf . because he knows hylia . seen her . felt the sting of her magic . saw her bring up the humans to their safe haven in the sky & leave him down there . she didn’t care .
as a child he was taught to worship hylia, as all the children of skyloft settlement were. his family had small statues of her that they gave offerings too . he would pray to her just as his mother told him to . so he was fine with her … maybe a touch annoyed — but that was mostly towards his mother being quite religious & making him repeat hail hylia when he was naughty ( which was often af )
upon being forced into the ancient battle ; his views were forcibly shifted by his father . not by any commands but more due to his father talking about how hylia cares not for him nor any other demons . lamatar believes demise would do right by the demons & monsters ( was that true ? who knows ) . he would beat this idea into ayrin until he began to think it himself .
“ hylia doesn’t care about me. if she did, she would’ve stopped me from joining this war . she wouldn’t have me here …mama says hylia loves us all but no one loves me. she doesn’t either .”
continuing on, ayrin was stuck by the goddess blade causing a horrible scar that glows similarly to TP! ganondorf’s scar. due to it being a holy blade , it couldn’t go away as easily as death or other wounds for the demonic weapon & he was out of battle for weeks. ( visual ref of rays scar here ! ) i have been debating it be hylia who struck him , but it can just be the first link . regardless , he sat there — scared & angry , not just because he failed his father , but hylia hurt . her blade hurts so so much . hylia is pain .
further down the timeline ; he continues to see princesses & queens struggle with their magic or are forced into horrible situations of the cycle born of demise . he sees link , so young forced into battle & losing his childhood only to become a shell . he’s seen ganondorf turned into a monster of anger & greed for what was once a king has become nothing but a pig . if hylia stayed a god perhaps things would be different . perhaps not . regardless, he blames them all : the golden goddesses , hylia & demise . none of them are free from his hate .
but hylia worship has grown strong again by botw & by then — he is a tired , cynical old man . he works hard to make sure his solders are ready for the war that is coming against calamity ganon . he sees the princess struggle to awaken her powers . he scoffs at her & wonders if the blood of the goddess is finally gone from tainting the royal family.
& he prayed to hylia to save them from the calamity when the calamity came & took over all the sheikah technology & his men died trying to get to akkala .
& she did not answer .
so for the hylia rpers i totally understand if you’re like “ damn he a hater idk if i wanna interact “ because he’s never ever gonna warm up to her . also if you wish to discuss what happened between them during the ancient battle please feel free to DM me ! my default does not need to be canon minus 1: ayrin / bby ray going to the war & 2: ray being struck goddess blade . those two are the only requirements — im flexible with anything !

Something I've been thinking about is that I know that Ganondorf can be kind of unapproachable for some folks. Maybe it doesn't make sense for their muses to come meet mine, or maybe they're too intimidated by the idea or maybe they just can't find a way to make that interaction work.... I get it and I totally understand. I thought about creating another blog for my best boy, Kafei. Would that be something you guys are interested in?

FACTS / HEADCANONS ABOUT THE MUSE. REPOST NOT REBLOG.  tagged by:  tagging: @obraveyouth, @luzofstars (Link), @lunarisdeus (Kasus), @mightiestbanana, @devotedsheikah, @dutifulsilence.
Tumblr media
1. Sheik is not good with words. Explaining himself, discussing feelings, generally being more human than a Warrior takes a lot of effort. He flounders, fumbles, panics interally and what comes out sometimes doesn't even entirely pertaine to whatever was asked. Though can be related and have a deeper meaning that what appears. He's been trained to talk in riddles, a lot of what he used to guide the Hero of Time was poetic and cryptic, so a lot of his actions and words have a deeper meaning.
2. Though he does appear to only care about his duty and his life as a Sheikah, and does, he also knows how to relax. Pre-Stuck in the Shadow Temple, Sheik's favorite things to do are read and cook. Before Ganondorf took over he also partook quite often in Bombchu Bowling in Castle Town. They're the things that help him relax the most, that don't involve work. The Harp is often something he'll play for fun, he plucks randomly at it if he's nervous, uncomfortable, unsettled, restless. But the Harp is deeply connected into everything that happened so it often stirs up restless memories rather than relax him.
3. Though skilled in a lot of things and uses, Sheik can't properly wield a sword. Never trained by his mother aside from the basics, swords don't allow for him to move the way he needs to in order to fight. Giving him a sword is about the same as giving a child a weapon to big for them and telling them to use the pointy end. His mother was a rather incredible blademaster so it makes for an interesting spectical with training when he is given a sword. But don't be fooled, he can still take someone down with other means, even without a weapon.
4. Sheikah have increadible hearing, above average eyesight, and magic. This comes with side effects. Sheik is very sensitive to loud noises, it adds to his problem with being in crowds. They can see things that would give an average person lasting nightmares, are very difficult to lie to and hyper aware of their surroundings. Sheik's also sensitive to drastic changes in temperature. Places that are to cold, to hot, make it difficult for him. His suit too isn't ideal for freezing temperatures. Side note: When he tells you the Shadow Temple is cold? He doesn't mean the temperature.
5. After everything that's happened; between the loss of all of Hyrule to Ganondorf, his mother running off with Princess Zelda, the adventure with Link that ended with resetting time and the Hero leaving along with his mother becoming the Sage of Shadows--Sheik has, extreme abandoment issues. To him; it just makes sense someone will eventually leave because everyone does (including himself in the Sage of Shadows verse). This does lead to him grabbing and clinging to people who are important to him. Though he expects people to leave, he doesn't want those that are important to. But, as with the first note, words aren't his strong suit. So he'll grab ahold of them, and cling to them, and try to keep them close without asking them to not leave.
