music is entirely subjective and it's literally impossible for anyone to have 'incorrect' opinions on what is and what isnt a good song. except for people who disagree with me personally, who are in a unique position to be Wrong. btw

Im about to get controversial.
Out of chrollo, illumi and hisoka, hisoka is canonically the least likely to flirt to get anything he wants, if at all.
A lot of people think he's a natural flirt but I fear I couldn't have disagreed more. He only "flirted" a single time and that was solely to piss off machi, knowing she'd never agree. Hot take? He would've never asked if he knew she'd agree.
Also, bro's the biggest humanphobe in the anime. He keeps his distance from everyone. The only human physical contact he ever made was through fighting people. (If you're a person thats interested in seeing more evidence, I have an entire long thread about it on twitter that I do plan on posting here soon)
so u cannot give me 1 reason for hisoka to flirt with someone at a random bar but chrollo and illumi? i can think of a few.
chrollo, he already canonically flirts to get what he wants. straight up goes on dates gets a suit and shit. he has no reputation among the general public that hes concerned of that isnt the spider. Illumi? He's a manipulator. I HIGHLY doubt he never flirted to get something in his life from people who are too easy to win over. He's someone that wouldn't care what people think of him. He's also anonymous. People have no idea who tf he is anyways. If it affected the zoldyck reputation? Thats a different story.
Hisoka? he would fucking NEVER. Him specifically? HE HAS A REPUTATION. And whats that reputation? That hes an absolute disgusting freak that no one should dare to approach. He kills people. He fights live and makes sure the audience is always disgusted and weirded out by his actions and performances. You look at him and you should immediately look away and pray he hasn't seen you.
So riddle me this. If his entire shtick is making sure everyones afraid of him and avoids him, then why the hell would he get himself a reputation that makes him approachable????
Why would he get himself a reputation that makes you, as a person who only ever heard of him picking people up, want to approach him.
On top of that, I just.. don't see him picking random people up..??? random weaklings that dont even know nen????? he literally treats them like trash that inconveniences his time. You're saying he'd EVER give them the privilege of sleeping with him???
And then you'd say, oh so he'd sleep with strong people! HERES THE THING. Why would he sleep with them..... when he can fight them. Him getting off from fighting comes NOWHERE to actual sex. What people don't understand is that he gets off to killing people and seeing them crumble in front of him when they realize theyre going to die. Torturing people to death. What's... that got to do with like. yknow. actual sex bro 😭😭😭😭😭😭
this turned into a huge rant probably but do you know how genuinely depressing it is seeing a unique character like hisoka that gains lust through FIGHTING and KILLING reduced to. sex addict in fics. Like. be so fucking serious right now. He called himself a FIGHT ADDICT in the manga. Can I see more of him actually spending his time killing and fighting people instead of whatever the hell bros doing with a random npc.
Anyways this is also why I hc him as asexual/demisexual NEXTTTT

I love that Clarisse calls him "Sweet Luke" in The Lightning Thief Musical and I hope everyone at Camp Half-Blood calls him that. Unironically.
Like sometimes it's how Clarisse used it, younger kids about to school sweet old man Luke on what the kids are actually into these days. "Sweet Luke, no one says groovy anymore. You gotta stop hanging out with Dionysus and Chiron."
And sometimes it's a sort of curse like when Luke kicks some kid's butt at sword fighting. "Sweet Luke!" In the same tone as sweet Jesus.
Sometimes when someone has a crush on Luke, the other kids mock them. "Oh, sweet Luke, I'm so sorry to part but we'll meet again at pegasus riding lessons this afternoon."

i know i left a comment on the fic too but mmmmmm the latest radiostatic fic is chef kiss. love every about it, especially the talking about gender with two people from different decades and alastor discovering an avenue of sex that is mentally interesting without encroaching on his boundaries with sexual contact
very good 👍 👏 👌
Thank you so much! I genuinely really love writing characters trying to talk about their feelings, needs, and identities in a way that isn't in line with modern queer-informed sensibilities. Because queer people still existed before we had words for them (or even defined identities in certain ways), and they did talk about those things! They just saw them differently, and I like poking at how their personal views and ability to discuss the matter helps characterize them.
Alastor being ace is never explicitly going to come up in 666 in those terms for the same reason, unless I finally get Rosie involved in a fic somewhere, because neither of them know what that word even means (and I am absolutely pulling from my general impression that even many not-perpetually-online queer folks don't know about aroace concepts). But that doesn't mean they're not clearly navigating what they see as Alastor's personal preferences! It's one of the things that I think canon pulled off really well: making this clear, on-screen delineation of yes, this character is ace that was funny and natural without, like, having Alastor turn his head to stare directly into the camera and declare that he identifies as something, haha.
Anyway, ahem. That's my soapbox, thank you for attending the lecture, hahaha. I'm glad you enjoy the way I write this!

42 miles prowler motif being so much louder and brash than Aaron’s. It’s such a slight change but it really demonstrates the difference between the two.
Aaron’s is a low, rumbling drone that shoots up into a synth and creates a sense of dread because you can feel him stalking, creeping right behind before he claws at you faster than you can think.
Aaron is efficient. He sees his job as the prowler strictly as that; a job. There is no greater purpose as to why he kills other than that’s what he gets paid to do.
Miles theme starts out w the same low drone, but the explosive synth is so much more intense. Not only because E42 prowler is younger and youth = energy, but because being the prowler is a responsibility that this Miles chose in the face of a universe that is in disarray and controlled by criminals. This is also possibly his first time being the prowler, if J Jonah’s spiel on Aaron’s tv is to be believed. He is eager prove himself as the prowler because being a hero is something he chose out of desperation, rather an expectation shirked upon him and it shows in his motif.
Also he’s probably very angry. Not in the “dangerous black teen” kind of way but in a “ I live under a bullshit and corrupt system that has forced me to fend for myself and my loved ones” kind of way. It’s loud and brash because the fury and sadness is hidden under a facade of calculated confidence.

I don’t usually make posts like this, but I’ve been seeing a lot of anti-intellectual junk lately, and I really think we need to put the word “pretentious” up on a shelf until people learn what it actually means.
It doesn’t describe someone who likes artsy-fartsy deep meaning media. People who are pretentious are fake. They’re posers trying to be sophisticated and unique, not like other girls. They pretend to only like stuff they think will make them sound cool when they talk about it. They want to act like they know something you don’t, and they want attention for it.
By definition, if you genuinely enjoy something, you can’t be pretentious. If it resonates with you, and you analyze it, and you don’t care what people think, that’s the polar opposite, actually. If you love obscure experimental prog music, if you watch underground high concept indie films through English teacher eyes, if you spend hours in a modern art museum reading each piece as a vessel for storytelling, if your backpack’s full of poetry books that inspire you, if you play underrated games that were someone’s passion project, if you have an interest in studying the classics or the masters, you are not pretentious.
Of course, some people just don’t like some stuff, and that’s fine, but that’s not what this is about. Don’t let anti-intellectuals shame you for enjoying things just because your interests are inaccessible to them, because they refuse to be brave and put effort into critical thinking. You’re not stuck up for refusing to overlook the craft of artists.
#anti intellectualism#media#movies#books#music#critical thinking#my friend who primarily listens to one very popular band once said that people who listen to obscure music are annoying and pretentious#which rubbed me the wrong way because 1 she knows that I listen to obscure music and 2 it’s such a cowardly consumerist take. anyone can#make music and hey a lot of the people who do make GOOD music. and this goes for all *obscure* media#this post was mostly inspired by people talking about Barbie and those anti pick me girls like the pick nobody girls who insist thinking is#for boys and having fun with an empty brain is for girls. Greta gerwig is an artist. I haven’t seen the movie yet but I know it has a deeper#message than haha cute pink! I’ve seen the summaries about the true meaning. the pinkness and popularity doesn’t negate the narritive.#though in the notes I saw a lot of tumblristas comunistas shitting on the film for being one big ad that people *fell for* which tbh is#tbh almost as anti-intellectual. don’t get me wrong they milked this film to sell hella shit but I don’t believe kids who play with dolls#are the target audience as these people claim. Barbie is a culturally iconic symbol almost archetypical of societal expectations for women#you say barbie people think unblinking perfect plastic pink girly. reminds me of the poem The Last Mojave Indian Barbie. yeah yeah you all#hate brands but this one carries undeniable significance and makes for a powerful literary device. it’s been used many times before#sorry for writing a tag essay about a film I haven’t even seen but I’m tired of internet people focusing so much on proving others wrong#that they end up oversimplifying everything just as much as the other person. god I saw people doing this to Nimona saying transphobes were#looking too deep into her character and they’re reactionary clowns for making that jump. like for once the transphobes are right. she is#trans. it’s a queer story. and irl the first people who notice queerness are the bigots who can tell you’re different. sick owns telling#them the story’s not that deep is harmful and it’s like they’re ignoring the real message on purpose. okay enough rambling hehe! thanks#barbie#nimona

there's probably no way to phrase this that doesn't sound like a vagueblog, but I keep seeing posts where US Americans are like "shut up about [big coastal metropolis(es)], life is just as good in affordable smaller cities in the Midwest and South" and like I do agree that there is beauty and good art and community anywhere you go in the US and we shouldn't write off entire parts of the country as not being worth visiting or living in. but speaking as someone from an extremely red state who lived in a very rural county in another red state at the height of the Trump era, even setting aside my home state's extremely anti-LGBTQ legal environment and its abortion ban that it's currently fighting out in the courts, there are opportunities that only exist in very large metropolitan areas (esp. for those in creative or academic careers) and if my partner and I had stayed in our home state and attempted to settle there it would have closed off those opportunities for us. this is all to say that I think it's very much a different strokes for different folks situation and dismissing NYC/SF/LA etc. out of hand is just as absurd and ignorant a position as dismissing entire states or regions of the country

Similarities between Good & Evil and Hawaii: Part II:
Second song has a very different and intense ending section (&, Isle Unto Thyself)
Repetitive and catchy third song (You & Me, Black Rainbows)
Many songs that address a nebulous second or third person that's highly influential to the narrative/general vibes (like almost all of them tbh)
Shorter song that mirrors a more notable, longer song (A Lady to the earlier &, Introduction to the Snow to the final Dream Sweet in Sea Major)
Third-to-last song about things getting worse in an attempt to escape the present (Out in the Twilight, Time Machine)
That one especially jarring song compared to the rest of the album that gets stuck in your head too easily (Turn The Lights Off, Space Station Level 7)
Super calm, melodic, and quiet penultimate song that happens to be about coping with waiting for somebody (You, Stranded Lullaby)
Long and majestic final song with many different sections (Fate of the Stars, Dream Sweet in Sea Major)
The vibes change so much from the beginning to the end - the beginning is almost idealistic, while the end is like a final reflection
Complicated feelings about yourself reflected in complicated interactions with the world and other people
Of course Hawaii: Part II tells a story (it's in the name, Miracle Musical), but Good & Evil also kind of tells a very vague story to me. Or at least outlines one.
yeah these are very evidently made by the same people

Black people (specifically African Americans) will never win… if we wear braids/afros /dreads, have long nails, big earrings, obnoxious makeup, wigs/weave, or durags, we’re ghetto and ratchet and hood, but other nonblack groups should be able to “represent” our culture and make it trendy and beautiful and hip and popular while AA men and women are shamed? Black people listening to rap/drill music is seen as uncultured and aggressive and worse than the systemic effects of racism (???), but other nonblack groups can use aave and be HEAVILY inspired off of black artists’ music, swag and style, and they aren’t shamed like black folk are? Black culture has now become synonymous with pop/gen z culture, and it’s absolutely sickening. Black people express discomfort over nonblack ppl wearing box braids? Gaslighted and bullied and shamed for “gatekeeping”. Black people express discomfort over anti blackness rampant in other communities that still miraculously love their culture? Told they aren’t the only group to experience racism and shouldn’t be that mad. Black people express their personal experiences with racism, colorism, police brutality, weariness over whight people, or any type of experience showing how they’re still suffering from this country’s issues of systemic injustice, dehumanization, and brutality, and they’re told their experiences aren’t valid, to get over it, and to just be accepting. And if we DO get support, it’s a trend and a hashtag you can just put in your bio and forget about the next day. Black people are NOT costumes you can put on and choose when to hang up in your closet. Black people should NOT be expected to carry the plight of other nonblack groups’ trauma especially when other groups will never do the same for us. Black people should be able to be treated with respect and dignity without you erasing our black skin. Black people should be able to talk about our own issues without being bullied for not speaking on others (no one would dare do this to another community). We can’t win. And I’m tired.
