I would love to hear about your icejin society and mutant form thoughts but. Tell me more, why does Grendine consider their form the best? Was there something that inspired them to pursue the sciences that they do?

okay lets try and organize my thoughts in a smart way, let start with some of my headcanons that are essential to my creation and reading of Grendine!

Icejin as a culture are a people heavily militarized, but mainly Off of their homeworld of Arcos. Onworld, there's sort of an impossible stalemate ever since the Cold Family took over and became unbeatable. Their way of life became the upperclasses way of life in other nobles desperate bid to gain their favor, and it's trickled down through every part of Icejin society. In high courts, you'll see many individuals with personalities like those of Frieza, Cold, and Cooler.

Now, for a bit of biology! Icejin are not capable of Transformations like the Colds are, at least naturally or beyond Gold. The transformations are a feature of their heavily mutated genetics, which are also why they are just so strong. The majority of Icejin are born and appear similar to Friezas first form, second largest look similar to his final form, then there are a small population that look like the second form, and Third form is incredibly rare. It's considered to be barbaric looking, and also isn't the most physically capable to have your child hatch into a body like that in Modern icejin society. Their bodies aren't built for that, and a good majority die before adulthood.

AT LAST. Grendine time.

Grendine believes through their studies that a body built like the 'Third Form' is the most practical and battle capable, and greatly admires their ancestors who appeared more like the Third Form does, and they take it as a way to hearken back to their roots. They think of it as brutal, yet beautiful, and consider improving upon it the next step of evolution for Icejin as a race. Fifth form to them is the perfect encapsulation of their research, and they put a LOT of effort into studying it.

Grendine was born to another Geneticist, who imparted her beliefs onto his child and groomed Grendine in the ways of biology and the changing of the Flesh. The idea that this research wasn't just limited to the noble classes, but was something that it was Their privilege to alter Icejin as they saw would best improve their species, and encouraged them to rise to a higher class. I don't know if she ever expected Grendine to become a mad scientist, but if not for the exile I think he would be proud. TBH. The Exile would also make him proud.

Lotus facts cause now he's back with a vengeance-

-Lotus is generally very anti-social. He's not a huge fan of people and he's easily annoyed by loud and/obnoxious people, this often leads to him being cooped up in the medbay so he doesn't have to deal with the others tomfuckery

-That being said, if you do manage to get him to like you, you're pretty much guaranteed to have a better time getting healed than anyone else.

-I follow the headcanon that the Namekian race evolved to rely mostly on water and sunlight after the Climate disaster, however since Lotus was conceived prior to the event he is not like that. He needs to eat and drink like most other alien species, and lacks the ability to turn sunlight into energy. Even if he could do that, he'd suck at it. Cause he's pink.

- Lotus is pink with green armor patches due to a rare genetic mutation, he's essentially a "shiny" Namekian. Literally the same as the rest, just with swapped color palette.

-His ki potential and strong healing abilities have nothing to do with the mutation, he just came from a long line of healers(Predestined medic basically hfdhesgas)

-I doubt the Frieza force has good food, probably has like those MRE type of meals, so as a result of growing up on those Lotus has no idea what good food tastes like

- He's a slut for chocolate and fresh fruit though

-His glasses are actually mostly for reading, he can see mostly fine without them

-He can't use ki attacks or fly, as he was never taught. Ever since he could heal others he's been kept in medbays or Base camps, he's never seen actual combat before

-He has no idea what Frieza looks like, never met the guy, despite being on the same ship as him one or two times

-He absolutely despises Zarbon

-He thinks the Ginyu Force is entertaining, likes a certain white-haired member a bit more than the others

-He has trouble saying how he feels about others, often getting defensive or changing topics if it's brought up in any sense

- Caffeine addict

- HUGE caffeine addict

- He's always irritable because he doesn't sleep much, just drinks coffee

- Someone help this man before he gives himself a caffeine overdose

Is Gohan dorking out because the Baby is the size of a bug? Maybe that’s what their mutation is. You know, like how King Piccolo’s kids all looked like dragons and stuff, yet meanwhile Piccolo’s kid has a mutation that looks much more harmless because he’s pure hearted unlike his father/past incarnation(???)

It's more of a headcanon for me that Gohan really like Namekians (since 2 of his close friends are Namekians)! And yes, that's the mutation effect but only because Piccolo being like one third(?) Dragon type Namekians. They might inherited good heart from the current Piccolo who's trying his best to be better, maybe ;P

i’ve always liked to imagine piccolo is a mutated namekian-demon. if king piccolo was essentially a corrupted namekian who became a demon on earth (bc i like magic in db) and his offspring were just demons straight up, and so piccolo jr, who has more of his fathers essence in him, comes out namekian but… a little mutated. all his teeth are sharp, his pupils are more of slits, and he has pink coloring and red blood, whereas native namekians have yellow coooeing, purple blood, flat (or maybe still pointed but not as large or sharp) teeth, larger pupils… maybe even the magic to an extent. i just think piccolo should be kind of a freak by namekian standards.

I think I saw a post where you say Piccolo births both his and Hana's children. I'm wondering if that would happen 100% of the time with namekian / other couplings or would it ever be possible for a namekian to impregnate their partner? Just curious about your headcanon.

oh! thank you for the ask! :D i'm gonna ramble at you, sorry in advance haha

i dunno how other folks headcanon how nameks handle reproduction, but i mean, in dragon ball king piccolo can just kinda spit 'em up at will, so that's sorta what i base my headcanon on. except i think there's king piccolo's way and then there's the proper namekian way. king piccolo's kids were "mutated", and even piccolo is "mutated" in the sense that he grew to maturity in like 3 years (meanwhile we see dende in the show later who seems to grow at a more "normal" pace so i assume he was hatched correctly)

so yeah i think namekians can just sorta decide to start making an egg and then it happens, and they carry it for a little while and let it form slowly before spitting it out. (i also headcanon that the formation of an egg can be "triggered" through a super deep emotional attachment, specifically like some sort of intimate event between a namek and someone else, doesn't even have to be physical)

but to answer your question (finally, sorry haha) with my headcanon it's not possible for piccolo to get anyone else pregnant. i do have some ideas about namekian physical intimacy, though... like i think nameks as a society/culture are meant to be very warm and loving, and they've got Ways of expressing that warmth and love to each other that have nothing to do with reproduction, just feel-good brain chemicals that promote closeness

ANYWAY god i'm sorry. i have like no outlet for these thoughts, i don't talk to people about dragon ball, i just sit in a cave and mash words into a clay tablet for my own amusement basically - thank you for reading if you made it this far 😂

Dragonball Theory Time!

Today’s Subject: Frieza Race Anatomy!

Beforehand, I would like to thank the individual who commented on my last post. I had completely glossed over the biogems as a whole! But the comments talking about how the biogems behave as both temperature regulators and oxygen reservoirs makes so much sense. Thank you!

Now on to my other theories. Last time I did something similar, discussing how the Frieza race’s planet might look based on features of the Frieza Race. This will an extension of that, but focusing more on the anatomy of the Frieza race themselves. Buckle up! This is going to be a long post!

Number One: Bone structure.

This one puzzled me for awhile. After all, they have an exoskeleton, so that could possibly lead me to believe they have no bones.

However, this doesn’t hold up for long. They CAN create bio suits, that is for sure. But it doesn’t mean they have to. Especially in facial regions, I would expect in there to be little to no exoskeleton, and instead normal skin.

Not to mention, the Frieza Race are obviously vertebrates. Their tail movements will tell you that! And they move like they have bones.

Sure, they could have some fancy bones like ones made cartilage or metal or something, but so far there isn’t much evidence here to suggest they have anything particularly special about their skeletal structure! Well, apart from their skulls. Those ought to be interesting!

Number Two: What do they eat?

We rarely see Frieza eat anything. Usually Goku takes up the most mealtime-screen time of anybody due to his insane appetite!

So what does Frieza eat? What about his entire race?

Well, we can make some assumptions based on what we DO see him consume.

We see Frieza drink wine on his ship, we see him lick Vegeta’s blood after Vegeta coughs it onto Frieza’s face, and we see him eat a Namekians Crab in one bite. That may not seem like much, but it actually gives us a lot to go off of!

First of all, Frieza can drink water, as both wine and blood have some content of it. This lines up with the idea of his home-planet containing ice and water, and Frieza likely needs some amount of water to survive.

On the subject of eating things, we see him eat a crab. His teeth as obviously strong enough to bite through the crab’s strong shell, unless he was… concentrating energy into his jaw to make his bite harder…?

This seems random, until you remember that the Frieza Race have shells themselves. Their exoskeleton, or biosuits, presumably to protect them from a sharp environment.

This could mean that animals of Frieza’s homeworld also possess shells to offer the same protection, and the ability to bite through these shells would be useful for the Frieza Race to have in order to eat these creatures.

Keep in mind that the Frieza Race does not likely cook their food on their homeworld. With the already ability to survive the temperatures there, fire would be useless. So their food is probably raw.

But other features give us further insight into their hunting. Take the fact Frieza has never trained in his life. But one of his automatic attacks is to choke an opponent with his tail. This could come from the possibility of larger armored animals on his homeworld, and the possibility that the Frieza Race hunt them by choking them with their tails. Especially if not all Frieza Race are ki users.

Alternatively, if running water exists on their planet, they can use their feet to catch fish, or other small animals. Then they could just bite through the shell to eat them.

Number 3: Tiny Friezas

We know from Xenoverse 2 that Frieza’s species only has a single gender. This isn’t anything surprising, as Namekians work the same way. Namekians litteraly spit the eggs out of their mouths.

But we are never told how that works with Frieza’s race. Obviously Frieza’s family aren’t the only Frieza Race, because in Xenoverse 2, many of Frieza’s Race can be seen in Conton City as time patrollers.

The biggest evidence also comes from one of those time patrollers named Metatts. When his human friend asks him and his Namekian friend why aliens are so ‘darn obsessed with coming to earth,’ he responds with, “hey don’t say that. Frieza’s exploits have caused my people no end of trouble.”

There would have to be more, in order for ‘his people’ to have trouble caused for them.

The biggest guess we can have right now is that they also cough up eggs like Namekians. However, one thing to note is that Namekian eggs are round, and that Nemakians themselves are stretchy, as proven by their abilities to extend their arms.

This would mean Namkian throats can stretch around one of their eggs as they spit it out.

Frieza Race are different. They have never been particularly stretchy. So to compensate for this, their eggs are more likely to be long, like a snake’s egg, to allow the egg to pass through their throat. Only if they spit out eggs as well, though.

On another note, in real life earth, not wacky DBZ earth, we have a few of our own species that reproduce asexually. Some species of lizard. One problem is that they all look the same, due to them all being ‘clones’ of their parent.

Obviously Frieza Race differ a lot in appearance. After all, looking the same as Frieza all the time would be boring! (Although, acting like a carbon copy of him is also pretty mundane. AHEM, ANIME FROST

The Frieza Race therefore must be prone to mutation. Mutations would explain the differences between relatives we see, like Frieza and Cooler’s differing color schemes.

Offspring will bear some resemblance, but are also likely to mutate completely different colors, horn shapes, or vitalities. (Speaking of which, I will be covering vitality next!)

Number four: Vitality

We all know how crazy hard to kill Frieza can be. This has always been attributed to his vitality. Just what is this vitality? It seems to pertain to the amount of injury one could withstand before dying.

This appears to differ wildly, even between parent and child! As Frieza’s high vitality lead him to be able to survive while chopped up in pieces, and even attempt to telekinetically pull himself back together after Trunk’s attack, in the manga. Only dying after being disintegrated by Trunks a few seconds later.

However, King Cold was instantly helpless after being shot through the midsection by Trunk’s ki blast, and maybe even dying.

Again, we also return to Metatts from Xenoverse 2, who has been very helpful in solving multiple Frieza Race mysteries. When taking about their regeneration technology, he mentions that using the regeneration machines, they can even come back from being smashed to mush… as long as they had a high enough vitality!

Assumedly, Cold is not one who could survive in such a state.

Number Five: Aging

If my research is correct, Cold is pretty old by human standards. And he is also very tall. One could assume that much like some lizards, Frieza Race never stop growing.

Then why is Frieza so short? Possibly a mutation or defect that came with his crazy amount of power.

Number Six: Forms

Contrary to some believe, not all Frieza Race have multiple forms. Because most aren’t born with the crazy amount of power Frieza had, and thus would not need any limiting forms. Cold didn’t have multiple forms, and neither do any of the time patrollers seem to.

Then if you go to Resurrection F, Frieza obtains a new form. Known as his golden form.

However, a lot of people seem to forget that it was not gold by default. He explicitly states that he CHOSE that color.

This leads me to believe that Frieza, and others if they need multiple forms, can somewhat create these forms with control over the appearance. Using this logic, the potential of the Frieza Race could far surpass any other race, due to them being able to create new forms each time they needed to contain more power.

WHY SAIYANS AREN'T THE GREATEST RACE 🙊

(But Saiyans have more potential than other races.)

So here's why I disagree with Saiyans being the greatest & strongest race. Many factors have to take place in order for Saiyans to get stronger.

POWER

The strongest that full-blood Saiyans could get with the best training is SS3 levels.

Maybe Saiyans could reach higher levels without god ki if we take GT into account, otherwise, SS3 appears to be the max. A Saiyan's max attainable power with the best training could be Vegito levels of power before they get too old & are unable to fight or they die of old age.

But keep in mind that Goku said not even fusion could defeat Beerus.

Goku had to do a ritual & train with an Angel just to attain god ki. (Other races may have something similar to the ritual. Other races could also train with Angels. Like Toppo.)

Most Saiyans weren't pure of heart or righteous. SSG could possibly be achieved by very few, but keep in mind that Saiyans don't have deep training & aren't spiritual as a culture. They would not know how to get as strong as Goku had learned.

TRAINING & SPIRITUALITY

Vegeta started training hard during the android saga. His reason for training was because he saw how beneficial training was for a low-class Saiyan like Goku, who became the legendary Super Saiyan before a royal Saiyan elite could.

Its important to note that Goku was raised as an Earthling, learned Earthling martial arts & he developed spiritual insight that Saiyan culture doesn't seem to have. Also Goku trained with 2 gods (Kami & King Kai) and acquired further power to rival Saiyan saga Vegeta. He then surpassed Vegeta in power & far surpassed him in skill because of his Earthling training.

And realistically it would be difficult for most Saiyans to even achieve the Super Saiyan transformation. They would solely rely on the Oozaru transformation. A select few elite warriors/royal Saiyans might get strong enough to achieve Super Saiyan. But from what we know about Saiyan training, it would be a very very long time before they could achieve Super Saiyan. Only the Super Saiyan transformation could even be as far as they could get.

Like I stated earlier, Vegeta was motivated to train after he saw how beneficial training was for Goku (who has Earth training & trained under 2 gods). If Vegeta never met Goku, Vegeta probably would never achieve Super Saiyan. On their own, Saiyans would most likely never see benefits of such training. They are a warrior race that see death-battles as the best training.

Goku who has martial arts training focused on self improvement, godly training, & spirit control training from the Yardrats understood how to train and conquer the Super Saiyan transformation. That's knowledge Saiyans dont have nor would their culture care about.

So lets say we give a few Saiyans the Super Saiyan transformation. I don't think Saiyans would share the knowledge of Super Saiyan with each other. Stronger ones would suppress the weaker ones until Saiyan society collapses or a civil war breaks out that would result in many casualties.

Goku saw the flaws in just buffing up the muscles of Super Saiyan. Vegeta who has a lack of deep training and Saiyan thinking, he did not see the flaws. He isn't trained the way Goku is. Being a martial artist & spiritual gave Goku a huge advantage over every other Saiyan. He was able to use his knowledge to push Gohan (a hybrid with Earthling principles) to reach Super Saiyan 2 even before a full blood Saiyan could.

Yes, Goku more than likely attained Super Saiyan 2 soon after he died. & more than likely, Vegeta attained it a few years after Cell was defeated. Goku was able to discover Super Saiyan 3 only because he was dead for 7 years & was able to train. His understanding of training and not having a physical body helped him achieve the new form.

No other full-blood Saiyan can achieve Super Saiyan 3 because of the training it takes & the toll it puts on the body. Goku barely even uses it in DBS for that reason (also because they are marketing SSG & SSB instead).

SCIENCE & ENVIRONMENT

Now if we go back to the point of attaining the Super Saiyan transformation, new information has told us that most Saiyans have a low amount of S-Cells; the cells needed in order to become a Super Saiyan.

Their way of life as being warriors who lived to fight all the time is why they could not build up S-Cells. S-Cells that are built up from a gently spirit (most Saiyans lack). Peaceful environments are necessary for this build up of cells. Saiyans naturally thrive for constant battle. The chances of Super Saiyan are even slimmer with S-Cells in mind.

UNIVERSE 6 SAIYANS

Universe 6 Saiyans are mostly good hearted & live much more peaceful lives than Universe 7 Saiyans. It would appear that the good Saiyans defeated the wicked Saiyans in Universe 6. So how come Cabba is somehow the first Super Saiyan? I guess Universe 6 Saiyans don't know how to train properly either.

And lets be honest, it was terrible writing how Cabba & Caulifla attained Super Saiyan. So you're telling me that not one Universe 6 Saiyan had never gotten angry over losing a close friend or family member while on the battlefield? Sure, whatever. Logically, since Cabba never saw Super Saiyan before, it can be said that Super Saiyan is either non-existent or only royal Universe 6 Saiyans have achieved it & keep it secret.

"But the tingly back thingy!"

If a tingly back was only necessary to attain Super Saiyan, then Goku, a master martial artist, should've taught that to Gohan so that Gohan wouldn't struggle so much during training to defeat Cell.

EDIT: Goku more than likely did teach Gohan the tingly back thing after Gohan became a SS. Mastered SS is not triggered by rage. The tingly back wkrks well if dont like this.

But rage is what Super Saiyan has always been activated from. We are still told that the transformations are emotional. Great anger/rage is how Super Saiyan is triggered

(DBS manga chapter 52 & information guides tell us that Super Saiyan is still triggered by rage.).

Caulifla not only achieved Super Saiyan within a days or few hours, but she achieved Super Saiyan 2 the next day! Gohan has the most potential out of all Saiyan because he is a hybrid with a good heart & had some of the best training to have. It DOES NOT make any narrative sense from all that we've learned & continue to learn about Super Saiyan transformations. And the way Caulifla got 2 transformation within 2 days belittles the efforts of Goku & Gohan for the sake of "Look! A female Super Saiyan!"

If Caulilfa can achieve Super Saiyan 2 after only having Super Saiyan for a day, why didn't Future Gohan easily tap into Super Saiyan 2 as well & defeat the androids? Such convoluted writing for Universe 6 Saiyans... 😑

Out of Universe 6's three Super Saiyans, only Kale's transformation seems reasonable because it is set up similar to DBZ Broly. Kale controlling her power within a few minutes in the anime was stupid tho... The manga handled Kake better because she never gained control of herself. But... she had enough sense not to kill opponents and drop them out of the arena... So did she have control or not? A berserker is out to kill, not drop you out of bounds so she isn't eliminated. 😓

Nevermind. Both handled Kale's Super Saiyan form wrong in different ways...

(I have a theory that Universe 6 Saiyans may actually be Saiyan/Earthling hybrids. Which is why its easier to get Super Saiyan and they don't have tails anymore. But that's a different discussion.)

BACK TO UNIVERSE 7 SAIYANS...

So about how strong a Saiyan could become on their own. I was being generous saying full-blood Saiyans could possibly get as strong as Vegito at most. That's more so something only Goku could attain. Saiyan culture & life, heart condition, lack of spiritual connection, & lack of good martial arts knowledge keeps them from growing. If they did train to get stronger then the most they can achieve would be Super Saiyan 2. The Super Saiyan God ritual would be attainable by some, but they could not absorb the power like Goku (thats because of his disciplined training) nor would Beerus allow Saiyans to keep causing havok. He planned to destroy them anyways.

And I'm sure that if one lone Saiyan achieved Super Saiyan on Planet Vegeta, Freeza would destroy the entire race out of fear. If Freeza somehow lost, Beerus would eventually destroy them.

LUCK & GENETICS

Goku, Vegeta, Broly, & Tarble were lucky and able to live different lives from the average Saiyan, be kinder beings or have their hearts changed (wouldn't happen for most Saiyans). Goku is the 1 in a trillion rare Saiyan that got the best training & he influenced surviving Saiyans to be more like Earthlings.

(But even after all the training Goku did in OG Dragon Ball, Raditz was much stronger than Goku. That means most low class Saiyans were around the same strength as Roshi & ChiChi.)

If we are generous and say some Saiyans could've achieved Super Saiyan 2 and would not try to kill each other, then they still lose to aliens like Piccolo, Krillin, Hit, Jiren, Ribrianne, Cell, or 16, 17, & 18.

Give Hit god ki and give him Angelic training to learn Ultra Instinct. He doesn't even have god ki & yet he can keep up with Goku who needed god ki to reach such power.

Broly would be the exception because he is a Legendary Super Saiyan & in a way a mutation too. But his power is uncontrollable. Imagine Broly snaped & tapped into that uncontrollable, monterous power on Planet Vegeta. All Saiyans there die within seconds.

Saiyans are very strong aliens. But other aliens are stronger or understand how to get stronger.

If anything, Saiyans have some of the best genetics & potential that give them a very high possible advantage. However, that is not a guarantee. But Earthlings & Namekians also have very high potential they can utilize along with knowledge far beyond Saiyans.

Being raised as an Earthling is the secret to Goku's power. Being half Earthling is the secret to Gohan's great power & potential. Its as if an Earthling's potential and training & a Saiyans potential and genetics are the perfect mix for a reason. Like they're branched from the same ancestor & are counterparts in a way. 🤔 (But that part's just another theory of mine.)

CONCLUSION

Without god ki, Goku loses to almost every opponent & enemy in DBS. Goku even says SSG is a power he couldn't achieve on his own. He was nearly at the peak of his power until he learned god ki.

And like I have stated, either ritual or Angelic training could be something any race could possibly utilize.

That's what I gathered from the info we've been given.

AFTERWORD

If you disagree that's fine. Disagreements aren't a bad thing. But if you say I'm wrong on something, show or cite evidence within the series (DBZ & DBS in particular) that says or shows otherwise.

All info shows us that most Saiyans would never be strong like Goku. It was luck & circumstance that Goku was not raised as a Saiyan but as an Earthling. Otherwise he would not have been unable to compete with Vegeta or Goku would've been destroyed on Planet Vegeta, killed on the battlefield, or quickly killed by someone stronger than him.

Please don't rebutt by saying things like "Well they're stonger than Earthlings." or "Their god forms are stronger than everyone else."

Those don't work.

If Earthlings trained like Goku (not like Saiyans because Saiyans don't train like that. Its an Earth thing💡) then some humans could surpass Super Saiyan 2. Evidence shows that Krillin & Tien & Yamcha have surpassed Namek saga Super Saiyan Goku. And they aren't addicted to training like Goku does. But when they do train, they make great leaps in power even without transformations.

God ki isn't something every Saiyan can learn (like Goku & Vegeta have) nor is god ki something exclusive to Saiyans. Look at Dende & Uub (DBS chapter 66). Goku being raised as an Earthling, trained as a martial artist, & training with lower gods is what aided his learning of god ki. Namekians

(Actual Info under the cut)

Namekians are an alien humanoid species with similarities to slugs and insects. They have long, slender, pointed ears and very acute hearing. Most Namekians have around six eyes, four on the face and two at the end of the antenna; apart from the two main eyes, the vision isn’t great, but it nonetheless does allow Nameks to have a certain degree of 360 vision. They have slit-like noses and a beak-like mouth that is often mistaken for fangs at a distance. True teeth are uncommon, and they have a proboscis-like tongue for swallowing water. Most namekians are technically capable of digesting things other than water, but they are often limited to soft, relatively bland food. The most common Namekian food source, other than water, are soft fluid-filled fruits and vegetables, which aren’t so much eaten as they are bitten into and have the fluid sucked out.

Namekians have a relatively soft, cartilaginous inner skeleton that allows them their extreme flexibility. They also have a chitinous outer-skin, and exoskeleton armor present in the smooth, muscle-like protusions. They have four fingered hands, and the final bone in the finger digits are fused with the exoskeleton to produce claws that appear to jut directly from the top of the fingers. There is little to no inner skeleton present in the lower body; instead their legs are distinctly insectoid in appearance, and as with the ‘muscle’ on their upper body, are heavily armored. Generally, Warrior and Dragon class Nameks are distinguished by their size and exoskeleton-Warrior Nameks are almost always a foot or two taller than Dragon Nameks, and they have rigid protusions on the exoskeleton patches for additional protection, unlike the smaller size and smooth skin of the dragon class.

Piccolo, on the other hand, is kind of. Weird. Like the other sons of the original Demon King Piccolo, he is mutated, although his are relatively minor, as he was the intended reincarnation, and not noticeable to those who aren’t rather familiar with regular Namekians. He has two working eyes and two vestigal eyespots, and unlike the plain black of most Namekians, he has white pupils. He also has an inner tooth structure similar to a regular Namekian’s beak. His exoskeleton patches are overlarge and have a hyper-muscular appearance. He is capable of digesting a wider range of food than most Namekians, and in fact he does require a small degree of actual food to supplement his diet.

Neru's female appearance is caused by the rarest Namekian natural mutation called the b-mutation, which happens once in 50 namekian years! Most of the b-mutation individuals are typically found outside of Namek. Since Namek's explosion, they have scattered more and more in the galaxy and more rare mutations have occurred, especially more b-mutation individuals.

Speaking of Dads, I’ve noticed there’s a bit of an interesting naming scheme going on with Gohan’s family and how it connects to Piccolo’s!

See, Pan was the God who invented the Pan Flute-also a connection to Piccolo’s family and naming scheme-and also looked like a goat, which connects to Videl’s name as an anagram of the devil, who is also often depicted as a goat man!

Also the whole ‘Satan’ naming thing is a direct link to Piccolo’s past as a Demon King and Prince!!

‘Pan’ is also the name of a type of bread which fits with the food naming scheme of the Saiyans and Sons, and ‘Piccolo’ is often used for small portions of food itself, mostly for baby food, which may have inspired Piccolo’s current Paternal Attitude Arc now that I think about it (lol if Piccolo ever has a kid they’ll probably look like a Goat Boy because Family Naming Puns and Namekian mutations a la Daimao’s kids that probably skipped a generation) (good luck finding shoes for a child that’s Half Goat buddy)

Sorry for infodumping I just have a Lot of Thoughts about Piccolo and the Sons : p

Dragon Ball 123

King Piccolo is dead! He exploded in the sky over what used to be King’s Castle, but Yamcha, Bulma, and Launch don’t know that yet. So they move quietly through the rubble to get a better look, until they find...

Another Launch! No, wait, they find Tien, and this is Launch reacting to that. Sorry.

She’s super happy an relieved to see him, and she starts bandaging him up. This is cute and all, but I can’t help but notice that this is the first time Blue Launch has really spent any time with Tien. She watched Tien break Yamcha’s leg, but I’m pretty sure she was in Blonde mode through every episode until they separated to deal with the Piccolo crisis. Certainly, she could have sneezed a few times off-screen, but otherwise I think this is the first time Blue Launch has met Tien since he turned good.

I just wonder what the deal is there, because she seems pretty happy to see him, and I always took it for granted that Blue Launch loved Tien as much as Blonde Launch does, but she wouldn’t remember the things Blonde Launch saw that made her fall for the guy. So what does Blue Launch see in him? Or is this some deal where the heart remembers?

Then again, like I pointed out before, Blonde Launch didn’t see much of Tien either, at least in the manga, and yet she still fell for him anyway. Maybe that’s how both forms of Launch roll. She’s used to hearing about new people after the fact, because someone needs to fill her in on what happened while she was her other self.

Once Bulma hears from Tien that King Piccolo is dead, she reports the good news to a TV station, and before long the whole world is celebrating.

This escaped convict is so relieved that he’s happy to surrender himself to the authorities. “Welp, crime is illegal again, so I guess it’s back to jail for me.” This guy looks like Nappa, by the way.

King Furry’s security guys congratulate him for weathering this crisis, but Furry insists that it’s all because of that boy who tore Piccolo a new cakehole and blew him up. Well, those aren’t his exact words, but man that fight was good.

Back at Kame House, Tien tells the others the whole story, and Launch is still putting bandages on him. Okay, Blue Launch is hot for Tien, there’s no question of that. Bulma’s cooking eggs for everyone, and that’s normally Launch’s thing, so I’m pretty sure she’s only doing that because she couldn’t get Launch away from Tien for five seconds.

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, though. King Piccolo is dead and Goku is alive, but Krillin, Master Roshi, and Chiaotzu were killed during the crisis. Worse, Shenron was destroyed, so the Dragon Balls have been reduced to ordinary stones. Not sure why they bothered bringing them back with them to Kame House, or why they’re keeping them in a glass case, but okay.

Meanwhile, this old man’s watching an enormous TV.

His wife busts in to tell him about this big egg she found in the river. I was about to say “giant egg”, because it is, but honestly, the TV sort of stole the egg’s thunder.

The old man checks it out an he’s like “This isn’t even close to the size of my TV.”

Yeeeeeaaaaahhhhh. Kami left it... why not?

He tells his wife to fetch him a knife, which seems like the wrong move for dealing with an egg, but it was floating in a river before, so maybe he figures all bets are off. But then it hatches right in front of them, and they look inside....

AHHHHHHHHHH IT’S PICCOLO’S SON AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Back at Korin Tower, Korin heals Goku’s injuries with “herbs.” This word is used in the manga too, which I don’t understand because we’ve already established that Senzu beans heal injuries too, so why bother with anything else?

Korin admits that he honestly didn’t think Goku stood much of a chance, and in his mind, the best case scenario was that Goku and Piccolo would take each other out. If that happened, he would have used the Dragon Balls to resurrect Goku, though. Turns out, Korin didn’t know about King Piccolo killing Shenron, which seems odd to me, since he usually knows about everything else, including Piccolo’s wish to make himself younger. So was he watching Piccolo using the Dragon Balls, then looked away before he killed the Dragon?

Goku’s pretty frustrated that he can’t wish King Piccolo’s victims back to life, but Yajirobe points out that this is normally how life works. People die all the time, and you don’t get a reset button. Then Korin adds that it’s actually worse than that, because when you get killed by a demon, you can’t go to the afterlife, and you’re condemned to wander limbo forever.

I really don’t get this bit of lore, and I suspect that Toriyama threw it in just to make it clear that there’s something at stake here. One could argue that Master Roshi is happier in the afterlife, like Son Gohan was, so Korin has to rain on that parade in order to keep the story going.

But I don’t understand how Korin would know such things, especially since there’s nothing supernatural about King Piccolo or his spawn. He’s not a demon, he’s a Namekian, and his kids are all mutated Namekians, so how does that fit into all of this?

At last, Korin realizes that there is a way to get the Dragon Balls working again. Goku just needs to ask the guy who created the Dragon Balls to revive Shenron. And that guy’s name is Kami.

I don’t want to get bogged down in the definition of the word Kami, since it’s kind of a complicated topic. Suffice to say that it can be used to refer to a Supreme Being, and that seems to be the context it’s used for in Dragon Ball. In the Viz translation of the manga, they just substitute the word “God”, which makes the point a little more clearly: Goku has to ask God to turn the Dragon Balls back on.

I’m pretty sure that’s also what was meant when other characters have referred to Kami in past episodes. Suno prayed to Kami to watch over Goku while he fought in Muscle Tower, and Chiaotzu prayed to Kami when Tien used the Ki Ko Ho during the World Tournament. Even in this episode, that old couple who found Piccolo Junior thought the egg might be from Kami.

So this is what Yajirobe means when he says there’s no such thing. He’s basically saying that he doesn’t believe in God, even though he’s familiar with the concept of God. And even if he did think God existed, it’s not like you can just walk up to his front door and ask him to turn the Dragon Balls back on.

But Korin tells them that he not only knows God’s home address, he’s the guy who arranges all his appointments. Kami’s temple is directly above Korin Tower, and it’s so high up that it can’t even be seen. Goku can’t fly up to it with Kinto Un because apparently Kinto Un’s maximum altitude is the height of Korin Tower. A rocket wouldn’t work, because some sort of force field would repel anyone who approached.

No, the only way to gain access to Kami’s temple is to get permission from Korin, and then to ascend from the top of Korin Tower using... the Nyoibo.

Turns out the Nyoibo was never a weapon at all. The reason it extends on command is because you’re supposed to plug it into the top of Korin Tower, and hang onto it while it takes you up to Kami’s place. Korin gave it to Master Roshi a long time ago because Roshi wouldn’t stop bugging him about it, and eventually Roshi passed it on to Son Gohan, who gave it to Son Goku. So as it turns out, Goku already has what he needs to appeal to Kami.

Or he would, if he hadn’t lost the Nyoibo during the fight with King Piccolo. Whoops.

Goku heads back to the ruins of King’s Castle, where King Furry is holding a press conference. When Goku arrives, Furry introduces the boy as the hero who saved everyone, though he doesn’t know his name.

The press swarm Goku immediately, but he’s too busy hunting for the Nyoibo to pay any attention to them.

Then he remembers Fortune Teller Baba, and her ability to find lost objects.

Goku heads over to her place. Now, Baba charges 10 million zeni for a single reading, but you can opt out of her fee by fighting her team of five fighters. So Goku’s prepared to go that route.

But Baba points out that she’d never find anyone who’d be willing to face the guy who killed King Piccolo, so she agrees to do this one for free. Master Roshi is her brother, after all.

Turns out the Nyoibo is at Kami House, because Tien picked it up off the battlefield after Goku left. Goku heads there immediately, leaving Baba to remark that her prediction came true.

Turns out Launch tied the Nyoibo to a broom head for some reason. I mean, she needed to clean the bathroom, I get that, but it hasn’t been that long since Tien brought it here, right? Sometimes it’s hard to tell with Dragon Ball. Has it been a day or a week since Goku killed King Piccolo?

Goku immediately runs off, saying something about going to talk to God, and warning the others not to dispose of their friends’ bodies. No one knows what any of it means.

Meanwhile, Piccolo’s final offspring is burning houses down and threatening to destroy his father’s enemies.

Appearrance: Xanoro is a good 7 feet tall and a few hundred pounds with a frame made for power and speed. He has a vibrant green to his skin, making him look like the deep green of a freshly rained on field of meadow grass. The bands on his body are a black color and the muscle patches are a deep royal purple color that contrast beautifully with the rest of his color. His eyes are an unusual purple color and his nails are black as night. He has extended canines like the rest of his race but sharper than normal. He has a few scars across his broad chest from his run-in with Huntress. He has a long bushy wolf-like tail because of his Clan's strange mutation and a large tribal tattoo on his back in Dragon Ball orange.

Personality: He's a rather peaceful and laid-back Namekian, intelligent and clever in whatever he does. He's often quiet until someone gets him angry and that usually takes a lot to get him angry. Being peaceful is more or less his thing and he'll only fight if he has too or if he's training.

History: Xanoro is a strange Namekian with the fact that he grew up on Earth likke Piccolo, never knowing Namek's beauty. He studied a lot of nature related things and martial arts styles growing up but decided to be a neutral unless the world or someone needed his help that he could give. He mainly lived in heavily untouched areas of the world with plenty of nature, keeping to himself at times but often seeking company from other like-minded individuals as he grew older. He turned to a pack of Dire wolves and was acxepted because of his knowledge of pack matters and natural leading abilities. He now leads regularly on hunts and other things, keeping to the areas between Mt Paozu and the wastelands.

A few years after reaching adulthood, Xanoro was ripped from a rather deep meditation, throwing his mind into full disarray and scrambling his usually calm demeanor, striking out as a highly hostile and aggressive being, messing Huntress up for disrupting him but also sending him into an instinctive panic. He's been ashamed since that day and has kept a relatively low profile to keep out of such trouble. He moved farther out into an unnamed forest, venturing out very few times to get a few luxuries from nearby villages, butn always returning to his solitude that he had imposed upon himself in his guilt for attacking Huntress like he had.

Relationships: None

Techniques:

-Rising Storm-A massive amount of ki balls are created around him and explode in a rising burst of energy, blasting back those who are caught in the middle of it.

-Dragon Blast-He poweres up with ki and springs to his opponent, driving an axe chop to the head and following up with his claws spread to smash a dragon-like ki blast into the opponent's chest.

-Break Cannon-A full force large ki beam that pours out of his mouth in a fast line into the opponent with devastating power.

-Flamespitter-He powers up to a point of immense strength and creates a wave of fire-like ki, bathing the enemy in it as he breathes it out through his mouth soundinng like adragon as he does so.

Other: He trains at a constant pace and Meditates the rest of the time, keeping his mind and ki in a harmonious balance. If someone interupts him from a deep meditation, it leaves him in an aggressive and very discordant state of mind for a while.
