Mutfruit jam and fresh razorgrain bread. Yum! I imagine mutfruit to be somewhat like a tart yet sweet plum flavour-wise, with a general appearance like a purple custard apple

My mutfruit still life attempt at a more painterly style is done. I kinda 'cheated' with the background and leaf a bit since I used non-paint brushes for those, but I was reaching the limit of my skill and sanity. I kinda like the way it turned out!

I run a clean settlement.
I don't go to Tennpines Bluff anymore. But when I do, I have a heavy bat in my hands so I can instruct the people of the wastes in my ways. They grow Mutfruit to make the jams that make the doughnuts. One time I caught an ex-raider farmer sitting behind a rock drinking a beverage called switchel. Fearing what I assumed would be a return to his raiderly ways, I struck him about the face with my baseball bat.

Saw your recent post with the flamingo floaty and spent a good 3 minutes trying to figure out why Rhett and Link were in fallout
Thanks for the inspiration anon! 😃(and 100% see it! 😆)

hello everyone i am once again grimble-grumbling about fallout tatos. yes potatoes and tomatoes are both from the solanum genus no they cannot cross pollinate and no you should not ever eat the fruit of the potato plant. the closest real-world comparison is the pomtato, which is grafted and will not occur naturally. i know it’s scifi radiation times but this one thing just doesn’t make any sense to me from a botanical standpoint and makes me want to tear every tato plant out of the digital ground. EGGPLANTS, HOWEVER—

Mutfruit WIP
I am trying to teach myself how to digitally paint. I decided to try again... but start simpler. Here is what I got done on a mutfruit tonight. Next I will work on the leaves and stem. Not sure what I want for the background yet. It looks more red-purple on my other monitor... but I like it so far. I like it much better than the Nick Valentine portrait I was working on (and lost repeatedly so I had to start over from scratch. Twice.) Krita's saving system is something I need to get used to, or I am going to probably continue to lose progress and just frustrate myself.

1, 4, & 10 for Nora?
What is the character’s go-to drink order?
For a hot drink, black coffee. There's not a lot of coffee to be found in the Commonwealth, though, so she often has to settle for chicory tea instead.
For a cold drink, strawberry lemonade, preferably homemade with real fruit and very little sweetener. That one's easier to come by after the war, but it's... different.
4. Do they have any scars or tattoos?
The only major prewar scar is a c-section scar from Shaun's birth. She gathers several after journeying around the wasteland: a radiation burn scar in the shape of a handprint from being grabbed by a glowing one; a bullet wound on her upper left arm from a sentry bot; shrapnel and burn scars along her right side and a chunk missing from her right cheek after a vertibird crash; and surgery scars along her right thigh and shin from the operation that repaired her leg after the crash.

As far as tattoos, none at the moment--but she's not opposed to getting them. I think if she did she'd go for something nature-related, like birds or flowers. Maybe Cait or Piper could talk her into it. Something for me to think about for my fic!
10. What objects do they always carry around with them?
The tape her husband, Dana, recorded for her is almost always in her Pip-Boy's tape player. She listens to it on nights she can't sleep--which is pretty frequently. She also wears his dog tags and wedding ring on a necklace, and never takes her own wedding ring off.
As far as other things, she never leaves home without a toothbrush, a bar of soap, a comb, and her hair wrap--the bare minimum for her standard of personal hygiene. She also frequently carries nail polish and eyeliner, in case she needs to touch up her appearance on the go.

you know what. fermentation, smoking, canning, pickling, curing, drying, and other methods of food preservation have been popular since before the invention of modern technologies. as is milling grains for rice and bread. these are things that you can do as long as you know the process and have the proper tools.
with that in mind... why is eating 200 year old pre-war food still a viable option for people of the wasteland? by 2281, there are farms. there are ranches. the ingredients are there. the know-how and tools are there. the recipes are there! it's not as easy as just going to a supermarket, but y'know, there's also trade. do you want some bighorner jerky in exchange for brahmin tallow? hey, give me some canned mutfruit and i'll cook you the most delicious deep fried giant ant with garlic and chilies and some lime juice on the side. take this sourdough loaf and firegecko menudo before you go. i just!! there are so so many interesting options and instead we get bland steaks and meat on a stick!!! why is wasteland cuisine so boring!!!

@mutfruit-salad pointed out that fo3 canonically ends with the capital wasteland getting clean water and the chance to rebuild, fo4 ends with the institute destroyed along with the people who were holding the commonwealth back, and basically even bethesda's fallout games usually have hope and progress as a major theme even if it's only right at the end.
so the idea that "we will veer towards destruction" and "our best efforts to restart civilization are doomed" being fallout's "inevitable message" is just stupid no matter how you look at it. it feels like a running gag to me. i know bethesda is notorious for forgetting their own lore but do they really care so little about even their own fallout games tha- i dont even need to finish the question, we already know the answer lmao

Everyone’s talking timelines and characters but my biggest disappointment with the retcons in the show where the animals, monsters. and the food
The bear was fine and the gulper looked neat (even if it didn’t look like an oversized salamander) …but the chicken? Deer? Cherry tomato? If you want gamers to like your show we want that familiarity of a goofy ass radchicken or rad stag, and tatos with mutfruit. Boo.

Fallout 4: Slocum's Joe Menu
Tumblr media
Pictured: The Slocum's Joe Menu world object from the Coffee and Donuts Workshop Pack Creation, showing various Pre-War prices for donuts and coffee.
Individual donuts were $22 each, while a dozen was $200.
You can check out our page for the Coffee and Donuts Workshop Pack Creation here:

Some people may have noticed that there's a listing for Mutfruit and Tarberrys, which are Post-War Fruits. This is cleared up by another version of the menu, which shows the original names were covered up Post-War:
