My last post lost traction, and I’m still in desperate need of help. On November 21st, 2023, my father who I cared for and my cat passed away in a house fire while I was at an appointment. One of my close friends could use some support in keeping themself and their cat afloat while they continue to seek and apply for jobs. They need another $500 to be able to make rent, ideally before January 6th, when late fees will start hitting.

I'm sorry it took me so long to post an update about this, my health has been pretty rough lately.

But, good news - With the donation to the GoFundMe and one from outside of it*, my friend was able to make rent this month! (*My family gave me $100 directly, it was more convenient for them)

Hi tumblr! for once a cat help post is NOT a scam in your inbox!

My kitty cat Garfield (you may know him from his successful comics series, and his brief stint of tumblr fame in the "garfield vs Elon musk" poll) Had to have an emergency doctors visit last night! He is a dumbass (affectionate) and ate something (unknown) that blocked up his insides and made him throw up all over the house many many times, it was quite horrifying. After a successful stay over at the doctors for an evening he's feeling better and has returned home to me (his BFF for life)

He's not very happy about his various IV catheters though (ignore my roommate's legs in the background.) His vet trip may have been successful, but it also cost me what little savings i had left, and i kind of needed that in case I* ever have to have an emergency (human) vet vist. hey besties I'm a bisexual non-binary disabled mentally ill poor person trying to live off a small monthly disability check and I could really use some financial help. I'm having to completely support both me and my roommate with this check and most of it goes toward rent and utilities each month. we still need money for groceries, toiletries, laundry, medications, and phone service. we're also still trying to get our car repaired, which is going to cost hundreds of dollars, and we both need new clothes. My entire life was turned upside down 3 months ago when I came home from therapy to my house on fire and my dad whom I’ve cared for the last 5 years and my cat dead. I am a disabled, non binary individual waiting for the necessary test results and documentation to receive disability. In the mean time, I am staying with my disabled mother. TLDR:

Trans and multiracial couple facing short notice eviction in need of funds for moving and living costs.

My friends Cal and Neens (and their two cats) must move out of the family home they’ve been staying in as soon as possible. They weren’t given much notice and are scrambling to find an apartment and to get some money together to put down for security deposit and rent. Given the rapidly rising rent costs in the area, their options are seriously limited. With their permission, I’m trying to raise some funds to ease this disorienting transitional phase.

Housing is a human right and they would deserve a place to call their own regardless of their personalities or community roles. That being said, I want to share about them because I love them.

I met Cal and Neens while working a food service job several years ago during the height of the pandemic. During that time, we bonded and took care of each other. Ever since they’ve been an essential part of my support system. As an example, the last time I was in the hospital Cal asked to leave work and rushed to come sit with me late into the night so that I wouldn’t be alone. Neens joined us after buying me a weeks worth of groceries and filled my fridge when I wasn’t looking. Their own financial precarity, housing insecurity and stress has rarely if ever stopped them from finding ways to show up for their community. They’re kind, thoughtful and generous people and they’re both becoming healers in their own ways. Neens is a practicing herbalist and in school to be a post-partum doula. Cal works with horses and is enrolled in massage therapy school. Investing in their wellness means investing in our community’s wellness.

Please help us secure a safe place for them to rest. You can support them by donating, sharing this post on social media and sending it directly to a few people who may also donate and by offering a place to stay or any leads on affordable apartments.
