An official document of Wayne’s prolific 3-decade run will yield hundreds of songs so consider this humble compilation a work in progress. Much like how Noz has done 100-packs on Young Thug, Future & Chief Keef, Wayne deserves the same treatment but in at least 3 volumes. I’m thinking something like this: 100 for features, 100 mixtape/beat jacks, 100 from his officially solo/Hot Boys/Stunna albums at minimum.
I’ve actually contemplated doing all the work myself but I don’t have the time to get too passion projecty right now. Maybe someone can take these 40 foundation features and build until we develop a crowd sourced multi-volume best of Wayne library. Just don’t be one of those Wayne-really-got-started-in-2005 ass minions and neglect his Hot Boys era shit! And while I’m using exclamation points also please stop ranking his full-lengths on twitter! Leave the album ranking to the Jay-Z stans!  Wayne’s output is so scattershot across so many years for all that and being an Album Artist is boring anyway! But being the greatest rapper of all time is exciting!!

Roll Call [Ciara feat. Lil Wayne & Lil Jon] (2009)
Freeze (Po Pimpin') [Aniyah Rachelle feat. Lil Wayne] (2009)

Koningin Maxima opent ‘Week van het geld’
Tumblr media
Take care of yourself, take care of your money’.

Deadbird: The Underground Cool (and Racking) of Arc’teryx
Tumblr media
Canadian brand Arc’teryx has endeavoured to excel in one area: outdoor apparel.
Despite its association with the best-of-the-best, industry-leading (and expensive compared to competitors) outdoor gear, the brand has been embraced, adopted, and re-contextualized by groups that Arc’teryx never ever considered designing for, namely graffiti writers, rackers, the occasional skateboarder, and lately the capital “F” fashion crowd.
Because of its logo, Arc’teryx product is often colloquially referred to as “deadbird” by some aficionados. So what has Arc’teryx done to deserve this street-level credibility?
The following is a series of interviews conducted over email, Instagram DM, Reddit, and Google Forms. Some quotes have been condensed for brevity. Arc’teryx declined to answer questions for this article.
  Graffiti artist Victor Ving highlights Arc’teryx products for their utility and hardiness, telling me, “I was put on to Arc’teryx from some Pacific-Northwest friends. It’s lightweight and good for the constant rain up there. Personally, I’m a fan of the Beta/Theta AR shells. Similar to The North Face Mountain Light Jackets, they have chest pockets. It’s a good place to put your cans of spray paint.” Ving notes that he observed Arc’teryx jackets becoming a choice look for sprayers, explaining, “You do see a graffiti subculture of people that wear Arc’teryx. I don’t think it’s so much of a functional thing, but it just became a trend. In NYC, I feel like it was about The North Face jackets in the ’90s and then it evolved into Arc’teryx.”
Milan-based Gianluca Quagliano operates a radio show called Skate Muzik, and produces apparel under the same name. He has issued a number of homage, Arc’teryx-inspired T-shirt designs, re-imagining the Arc’teryx Archaeopteryx logo as a a Japan-air grab. Quagliano has been wearing Arc’teryx for some time, despite having to search and travel for certain items. “I’ve been wearing their products for years, it was quite hard to find in Milan for some time though, I remember going to Tokyo, seeing an Arc’teryx store there, and I went crazy.”
A graffiti writer who chose to remain anonymous told me, “Racking has been part of graffiti since the ’70s. Arc’teryx is part of the graffiti subculture, strictly because of racking. No other reason at all. Kids would rack jackets because of their high price-point and ease of selling them.” Adding additional background, they note, “The top tier at the time was The North Face Summit Series, and if you could find it, Steep Tech gear. I found a store that had these [Arc’teryx] jackets, with this sick bright blue color that no one else offered at the time. I checked the tag and it was $500. I couldn’t believe it. Even two Summit Series [jackets] weren’t close to that. I took an Alpha shell and two Gamma soft shells and that was it. It started an addiction, an appreciation and a brand loyalty that has been a part of my life ever since. Racking happens for several reasons, firstly to make money, and secondly to have the best jacket money can buy on your back, while not paying a thing for it.”
Tumblr media
Nick Kusto is an artist who spends his time between Dublin and Berlin. Kusto mentions he is fond of products like the Sinsolo and Motus hats, as well as vintage jackets. He continues, “GORE-TEX has always been popular amongst writers, a friend of mine has it [GORE-TEX] tattooed in massive block letters across his stomach.” Kusto mentions the planning that can go into Arc’teryx heists, noting, “People travel all over Europe and Scandinavia looking for the easiest shops to steal it, renting out cars and hitting all the stores on the way. It’s easier in small towns.”
In Melbourne, Australia, Lloyd Wellington’s understanding of the Arc’teryx brand could not be further from any mountaineer or climber: “To me, it’s a brand that I have always associated with crime. I have never paid for an Arc’teryx jacket, period. I feel as though people who wear Arc’teryx are almost in a secret club together. When I see another person wearing it, I always give them a head-nod and acknowledge them.” Wellington also draws comparisons between the cult appeal of Arc’teryx and the Ralph Lauren-obsessed Lo-Life crew, noting, “To me, Arc’teryx is the modern day POLO for a certain level of people. People trade loot photos among eachother, and show off their rarest pieces, always bragging about the missions that scored them the most.”
Toronto-based graphic designer Brendan G explains the practice of stealing Arc’teryx by noting, “The [GORE-TEX] Pro shells are worth up to a rack in CAD, and it’s easy money if you know what’s up. I rate it, the world is burning and we’re in a late enough stage of capitalism that I don’t give two shits if somebody steals from a large company.” Brendan also touches on the brand’s appeal off the mountain, “It’s also a high-key flex to be wearing a thousand-dollar technical jacket meant for belaying in the Himalayas on your run to the bar. Too bad it’s become mainstream enough that it’s low-key corny now, thanks Virgil and all the fakers paying retail!”
Tumblr media
London-based Bennett gave me his first name, but preferred to remain otherwise anonymous when speaking about Arc’teryx, telling me, “Graffiti is a largely outdoor hobby, so you want good clothing to help with the elements.” Bennet also highlights the price point of Arc’teryx as a factor that sets it apart from other brands. “The gear is well made and looks good, and isn’t generally affordable to everyone. This makes it stand out against The North Face. Always GORE-TEX models, they tend to be the most expensive and therefore desirable to me.” On the topic of racking, Bennett responds, “Love it. If the clothes are there, and can be got for free, then fuck it. Take them. Save yourself some money.”
An anonymous responder from Denmark told me, “Arc’teryx is hard to steal and expensive, which makes it more popular. Also Arc’teryx is good quality. When I started racking, it was The North Face that was the top brand in the graffiti world.” They went on to note, “The best story I can share is about a shop in the city center of Copenhagen. It’s a two-floor store and it had a scaffolding on the outside. So a group of four guys went up, opened a window and took all the Arc’teryx that the shop had to offer!” Images via Lloyd Wellington.

Love and Hip-Hop: Wakanda, (Black Panther Headcannons)
A/N: I’m totally random and if you follow my Vikings posts you will figure out I’m obsessed with placing a fandom in the reality world 😂 I was bored on lunch and thought this up! Might add more, but this is just for fun! I hope you enjoy!
No Warnings lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
T’Challa “King” Udaku, Record Label CEO BP Music Group
T’Challa Confessional: What’s up! I’m T’Challa, an executive producer and the owner of BP Music Group. You probably know me by my stage name King. I still sing, but I would rather produce now. So, I started BP Music Group a year after my pops died, a tribute to him. We’ve been the hottest record label in all Wakanda for five years, no matter what you done heard. Our artists are untouchable.  You probably done heard my music before producing artists like Daniel Cesar and SZA. The rock in my life is Nakia. She’s a special girl, she’s always there for me.
Nakia enters the studio while T’Challa is working with SZA. Sits in between them.
T’Challa: can we help you?
Nakia: Nah, continue.
T’Challa: O-Kay. (rolls his eyes starting the song back over, leans awkwardly to see SZA.) This song would be great for you.
T’Challa Confessional: She a little protective. But I wouldn’t trade her for anything. She been down for me since we were kids. Haven’t got married yet because it’s just not the time.
-          Never cheats on his girl, but when they’re on a break he wilds out
-          Dropped Erik from the label for personal differences
-          Hasn’t had a hit in three years, blames it on the music industry
-          Asks his mom about every business decision
-          Best friends with W’Kabi and M’Baku
-          Only hangs around Erik when he needs something
-          Thinks his label is bigger than it truly is, (DJ SELF low key)
Tumblr media
Nakia, Fashion Desinger, Former Milaje Trois Member
Nakia confessional: I’m Nakia. I used to sing and all that but I wanted to get away from all of that.  I currently run a clothing line called Wakandan Glam, it’s nothing major. Just a million-dollar company. We make shoes, clothes and I’m starting to dabble in cosmetics. I’ve been with King for over ten years and he still hasn’t proposed. I keep talking to his mom and she ain’t got the answer either. So, I set up a deadline for myself, one more year and I’m moving on. There are several other men that want this successful, educated black woman. You feel me? Okay. Good.
Hands T’Challa a magazine with rings and points one.
Nakia: Just in case you wondering.
T’Challa: Aight. But I wasn’t.  (hands her the magazine back, the continues to watch the game on TV)
Nakia Confessional: One more Year.
-          Used to sing in a girl group called The Milaje Trois with Ayo and Okoye.
-          Thought she was the lead singer, still gets a rush when people ask for her autograph.
-          Claims she started the company from scratch but T’Challa is the money
-          Talks to Ramonda about her son and tries to convince him she’s the wife
-          Lives with T’Challa but always suspects he’s cheating, follows him and goes through his phone from time to time.
-          Still close friends with O’Koye but doesn’t trust her around T’Challa.
-          Slept with Erik once when she was drunk, refuses to admit it. (Granted he got a video)
Tumblr media
Okoye, “Koko”, former member of Milaje Trois, A&R Rep for BP Music Group
Okoye confessional: Hi, I’m O’koye, Head of A&R for BP Music Group. I’ve represented T’Challa for over five years and I represent other artists such as Shuri and Bucky. I try to keep everything professional and I put up with nonsense, which can be hard as hell working with Shuri because she always has something up her sleeve. I’m married to W’Kabi, he just got out of prison for embezzlement. I don’t want to talk about, just know this dude is thin ice with me. I mean thin.
W’Kabi: Babe, you hungry?
O’Koye: Yeah we can eat after I finish this session. (Points to Shuri whose showing her the new lyrics to her song)
W’Kabi: I’m hungry now. (He shrugs) she can wait. Can’t you wait?
O’Koye: (eyes widen and slams down her phone) Hey, what did I say
O’Koye confessional: I mean he doesn’t understand I’m the bread in this relationship which means I steer the boat. He’s. (Pinches the bridge of her nose) Whatever, like I said… this damn ice.
-          Plans on leaving BP Music Group one day and opening a management firm
-          Best friends with T’Challa makes him weary of making life decisions he hasn’t thought out yet, like marrying Nakia.
-          Saves her money,
-          Does not fraternize at work
-          Would rather be single sometimes when she thinks about the bad image W’Kabi brings
-          Does not like Erik, but is proud of him for forming his own record label.
-          Best friends with Ayo, does not support her relationship with Erik
Tumblr media
Erik, Golden Jag Music CEO, Producer
Erik Confessional: Yo, what’s going on people. I’m Erik, the sole owner of Golden Jag Muzik. I’ve had several hits including: Arch that Shit, Bottom Out and Throw it Back. I left BP Music Group about five years ago, because his shit got wack, and now I manage artists and get sold out shows and shit. Right now, I got this new artists named Chiron, he young I’m teaching him the ropes and shit. I have no woman, and no kids, that I know of. (Pauses) Call me the pullout champ. (winks at camera) I fuck with this one chick heavy but she just cool. Tryna get her rap game off the ground. Following my golden Rule: Secure the Bag then Secure the Ass. It’s all about the dollar.
Ayo: Did you book me for the Women Festival? Ayo sits in Erik’s lap planting kisses down his neck.
Erik: I mean what you gone give me in return, you know the strings I’m gonna have to pull to get you there? (touches her face)
Ayo: Just do it, E.
Erik: I’ll see what I can do after I see what you can do
Ayo: You fuck Chiron before you book his tours
Erik: Hell nah.
Erik Confessional: I really like her, though. I think that she can go far in the game and I plan on taking her there. And Chiron too.
-          Claims to be single but gets mad if Ayo talks to anyone else
-          Fucks with other girls won’t let Ayo know though
-          Doesn’t like T’Challa and usually ignores his calls
-          All his classic hits are still big in the club scene but he can’t sell a new record for nothing
-          Mentors Chiron,
-          Gets all his info from Media Takeout and TMZ and gossip bloggers
-          Best Friends with W’Kabi but constantly calls him a bitch
Tumblr media
M’Baku, CEO of Jabari Markets
M’Baku: I’m M’Baku. I don’t sing. I don’t dance. I run a marketing company that advertises the hottest artist in Wakanda. I pair with both BP Music and Golden Jag. Their artists use me for promotions and booking. I just like to make money. Jabari Markets is something that took time and we don’t allow people to bullshit us, catch these hands if that’s the case. There is no lucky lady currently. I just like to work, get this money and travel. Nothing better than not having the strings these other two got.
T’Challa flips his phone over.
M’Baku: Man will you just answer the damn phone? (sips his Hennessey.)
T’Challa: It’s Nakia.
Erik: (phone vibrates) Now she calling me. Why she won’t call you?
M’Baku: I blocked her number. I ain’t got time for that shit.
M’Baku Confessional: Like I said, I keep to myself and I handle This business. I’m not like the rest. My business is first.
- born and raised in Wakanda, lives on estate in the mountains to stay away from drama
- thinking about recruiting small femal staff
- likes Erik okay, doesn’t trust w’Kabi
-friends with T’Challa for over fifteen years, marketed his tours free of charge
- does not take kindly to threats, will beat ass if disrespected

- story time ...
so, I'm a traveller. at least, I was; 'recent changes' caused me to take a break. this situation happened during my last travels. I was then in San Jose, California with my homie, as we were making our way up north (hitchhiking) to John Day, Oregon for that year's "Rainbow Gathering" (hippie joint; look it up). we were in a part of the city that made me hella uncomfortable. so I told him that we should leave and make our way back to the train station so we can hop the joint and continue north. he ain't wanna leave! he was having a good ol time. I didn't wanna just buck out on him, so I kept pushing, and he kept stalling. so, fuck it ...
I left him without a word, and kept walking; towards the train station. I made it to a park not far away from the station, outta the zone of 'bad vibes'. I sat at a bench, and watched loads of people fill the streets, headed towards the SAP center (some stadium-like building) across the street. I didn't know why, I didn't really care either, I just wanted a smoke and a chill. as I posted, some old white guy came and sat at a park bench next to the one I was at. he pulled a cigarette outta a pack, lit it, puffed it, then looked at it in disgust. he looked around, saw me, and walked over. "I'm tryna quit, do you smoke?", he asked me. now, I'm fairly good with energy, so I felt he wasn't on creep shit, and I would've much preferred a black-n-mild, but "yes" was my accepting response. he gave me the whole pack. he sat down and told me he wanted to attend that concert across the street (come to discover, it was a Walter Waters [Pink Floyd] concert) but he didn't wanna deal with all them people. he was near blind, and too old. but, he told me he was good friends with one of the band members back in the day and he was sent free tickets. after more talk, he asked if I would mind helping him through the crowd and finding his seat, in turn giving me a ticket to attend the event. I Love muzik, but I never touched pon Pink Floyd before, so I didn't know what to expect. but shit, what else was there to do?? I agreed, and we made our way.
this man not only had free tickets, he had the whole vip sway. I mean, great seats, line skips, all that. we made our way, even got some free merch., and awaited the concert ... and I must say, it surpassed my expectations. it was freaking magical, to say the least. the view, the sounds, the people; I never experienced anything like that a day in my life. I had a new found Love for Pink Floyd. after the concert, he invited me to his place (I know, creep shit status, but like I said, I had good vibes). it was legit. he lived on a compound with many other residents. we posted outside, amongst many others, smoking hella weed and sippin fancy liquors. I was with them rich white folks, and it felt kinna nice. aye. it started to get late, and I didn't wanna over stay my welcome. so I bid my farewells and thanks for the good vibes and good times him and them showed me. they loaded me up with money, weed and advice (I told em about my travelling), and I was out into the night. hit up my homie, who was sad as shit. lol. we linked back, smoked good, ate good, hit the train station, and carried on north ...

Violet Behavior
Violet Behavior is an internationally known model and is one of the only fetish models in the world that have also been in major publications which are outside of the alternative world. Published in magazines such as FHM and Hustler and modeling for Trashy Lingerie, Road Bone Clothing, Vanodorm Clothing and Halo Guitars, Violet is now everywhere you look and she says she is just getting started.
Where are you originally from?
The Dirty South! Beaumont, Texas which is pretty much Louisiana.
Do you travel a lot?
Off and on. I will go a few months without traveling and then I will leave once a week. Recently I have been to Dallas, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Houston, Denver and will soon be going to New York, Canada and California.
What was in Miami?
Normally I travel for shoots but that weekend I flew from Chicago to Dallas and stayed there for 2 nights to see a band called SKANK. And then I flew to Miami...I wasn't supposed to. I was supposed to fly to Ft. Lauderdale but I am retarded and went to Miami. So a long cab ride later, I was in Ft. Lauderdale and I was there to see my Marley boys.
As in Bob Marley's sons?
Yes sir. It was at Ky-Mani Marley's Birthday party. Damian, Stephen, Ky-Mani, Julian Marley and Khev, The Original Babyface AKA LionKing Muzik, Fyakin, Ky-Enie, and some other people performed also, but it was really just a small invite only party.
Do you see them often? How are they to hang with?
I just saw them here in Chicago too and I am supposed to go to Seattle this weekend to hang out. I will also be seeing them in Cali and Texas over the next month. They are nice people. And I don't mean that to sound as generic as it does. They are actually good hearted, empathetic, spiritual, loving human beings. I'm very thankful I went to Ky-Mani's party because I met a ton of awesome people and top names in the reggae world showed up. It was a lot of fun and I met 2 people that made an impression on me that will last forever. Lionface from LionKing Muzik is an absolute sweetheart. He works with Wayne Wonder and is probably one of the best DJs I have ever seen. I am going to see about booking them in Chicago, they would blow people away here. I also met Sava, who grew up with a couple of the Marley's in Jamaica and still remains good friends with them. I have really grown fond of Sava. He is an amazing person and we have a true connection and I look forward to seeing him many more times, and if I don't for some reason, he will always have a place in my heart.
Finish this phrase:
I love it when a guy: shuts up. Hah kidding. I love it when a guy is funny and also when a guy does surprisingly nice things and has no idea he even did it. And with me saying that just now, I realize that women really ARE complicated ha.
What do men gain by sitting through chick flicks?
A nap I'm sure!
I'm sure you have heard the debates about women being degraded in rap videos these days. What do you, as a female, think about these arguments?
I really stand behind the right to free speech. Along with having these rights, come other people with different opinions than you, having the same right. Everyone involved in the video is there because they want to be. Those females are not feeling degraded in the making of the video. Now as a viewer, if you don't like what you see... do not watch it! Turn the channel. Raise your sons to respect women and raise your daughters to respect themselves and stop worrying about what is on TV!
What do you wear when you're online talking to people?
I am usually at home when I am doing that. My typical outfit when sitting at home is little short shorts and a wife beater.
How does cyber sex rate compared to real sex?
I wouldn't know... my real sex is amazing, who needs to pretend to have sex online.
What's the creepiest proposition you've had over the web?
I don't know if it is the creepiest but it is recent and definitely creepy. A guy who lives in my city asked if I would come over to his house. Asked if I would sit on the floor and smoke cigarettes while he sat on the bed, dressed as a female. When I was done with the cigarette, to put it out on his foot while telling him "Your feet are disgusting!" Yeah ok. Declined.
Who is your favorite porn star?
I always forget her name... but she is literally the hottest and cutest girl ever. Oh yeah, Jesse Jane!
Would you ever post a homemade porn video on the web?
Um... probably haha.
What is your favorite part of your body?
My eyes actually. "My eyes are the windows to the earth"
When will you retire modeling?
October 2009. Literally. Then it is time for the next phase of my life.
Where do you want to travel to?
A ton of places. I want to go to Belize to see the Mayan ruins. I want to go to Jamaica and experience their culture and go see some awesome music. I want to do some volunteer work in Kenya. I want to go everywhere.
Modeling goals? Personal goals?
As far as modeling, I have no set goals. I have a little over 2 years left of modeling and just want to do the best I can do at it. That doesn't mean get famous or rich off of it, I just want to do it well. When I'm old I want to be able to look back on this as one of the most awesome experiences I have had, know how lucky I was to have accomplished what I did, and the memories of how much fun I had with the people I met along the way that I otherwise wouldn't have ever had the chance to meet.
Personal Goals? Some minor things will change over the years with my personal goals, but most will stay the same for many years, just as they have been my goals for many years already. Whether it is seen and noticed or not, I try to be the best person I can be. I really try to do the right thing on all levels and help people and hope that it rubs off on them and they pass it on. Positivity.
Do you ever get jealous of other models?
Ha, no. When I first got into modeling, it was not intentional. I did not keep up with models nor did I care. Because of this, I had no influence and immediately had my own style, because I had nothing to copy. I keep things that way. I see models in magazines and online and such but I don't pay attention to any of them or what they are doing or wearing or anything. First of all, I don't really care. If they are a friend of mine, I will discuss it with them and hope they succeed at their goals, but I purposely don't talk about it a lot because I don't want it to become a competition with us. Second of all, I am not here to copy anyone. I don't care about the actual modeling industry and I don't want to be a part of the actual social aspect of the modeling.
Is one of your goals to be famous?
Definitely not. The last thing I want is fame, to be honest. This may confuse people because of me being in magazines and that being one of my goals. But it isn't because I want fame, it is because that is an accomplishment in the modeling industry, and I try to succeed in anything I do. I couldn't imagine not being able to just go to the store without people surrounding me. It already sucks to not be able to go to the store without 15 creepy guys hitting on me before I can get back home.
Why do women collect stuffed animals?
Because guys give them to us and we hold sentimental value on EVERYTHING hah.
Would you ever date a guy with a stuffed animal collection?
That is an odd question. Why, do you have one? I wouldn't on purpose, that's for sure. But my luck, I would date a guy and he would end up having this largest stuffed animal collection in the world.
What are some characteristics a guy must have for you to take interest in him?
He has to make me laugh. Almost every guy I have dated is pretty damn funny, except for 1. He made me "chuckle" at best. His jokes were SO bad; I almost became nauseous at times. I do not find puns funny. And he did...about 100 times a day. I remember once my friend Angel was over our house and my dog Quincy was trying to get his tennis ball out from under a heater. This guy says... "You keep doing that Quincy, and you will get opposable thumbs!" and really thought that was hilarious. Angel and I wanted to literally throw up. This sounds really mean but I couldn't take it anymore. I told him finally that I can't be with someone who doesn't make me laugh. So to either be funny, or to just stop trying all together and not say those retarded jokes.
What do you think about people in general?
In general, I think people are extremely complex. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but there really are just a lot of terrible people out there. It's quite sad. It is way too common for a person to be selfish, self centered, apathetic, deceiving and fake. I am going to have to use the previously mentioned guy as another example. He was raised by a millionaire of a father and a stuck up mother. Decided he didn't want a real job (he knew he would always have money if he needed it) so he became a "musician". He started dating someone he didn't even really like, cheated on her the whole time, married her and continued cheating throughout. Cheated throughout the divorce, WITH his divorce lawyer, with the girlfriend on the side (who he was also cheating on), cheated with one of his music students, etc. Ended up marrying the girlfriend and having a kid with her, both cheating on each other, tried to kill himself in front of his kid, and didn't give a shit about anything except for music. He gave up on his family, gave up on his son, but makes sure to work hard on his music career everyday of his life. His only goal is fame, nothing else matters. That is just sick to me... nothing comes before your family in my mind. People like him make me cherish the good people in my life even more.
What is your favorite word?
Stupid.
Who would you choose: a guy with a swimmer's body or a guy with a body builder's body?
That question just totally grossed me out.
Do you have a favorite Iron Chef?
I love ALL the Iron Chefs! One of the best shows ever.
What are you favorite TV shows?
Deadliest Catch, Sex and the City, Check Please, Frasier, almost anything on Discovery.
How do you like being romanced?
Romance? What's that?
Every girl wants an honest man. How can you tell if a guy is honest?
Maybe every girl doesn't want an honest man. There are plenty of liars out there that have girlfriends or a wife... or both.
Do you think because of your modeling, that boyfriends are more jealous with you than if you weren't modeling?
Yes, I have noticed it in past relationships. But it isn't always the case. I don't mind some jealousy though. I don't think I could date someone who has no jealousy whatsoever with anything.
What food makes you happy?
Cajun and soul food. That is what I grew up on and it is still my favorite.
Did you grow up in Louisiana?
Basically. I grew up about 10 minutes from Louisiana, 15 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico, and 2 minutes from hell on earth.
Did you visit the beach a lot?
We pretty much lived there. It wasn't something like, if we had an extra dollar or two we would go. It was a necessity; it was included with the bills ha. We would make a few sandwiches, put some gas in the truck, my parents would get some Lone Star beer, and then we were set for a couple of days at the beach. If my dad got any vacation time, we would just stay at the beach cabins.
How was your family life growing up?
Kind of normal, kind of not. We didn't have money or anything if that is what you mean. We moved more than anyone I know. We moved so much that we rented the same house 2 different times and we built the same house 2 different times. That might not sound like too much to military brats or something, but this was all in the same little town in Texas so it's like moving 2 miles away each time. I still really don't know why we did that...
Do you have any regrets about your life in general? Or with modeling?
I am open minded to the opinions of people and never consider myself right about things that cannot be proven and other people wrong... unless it involves morals and being a good person, I know what is right with that. But people say everyone has regrets no matter what...  I don't really feel any though. But if I really had to search for something to regret I would have to tell you it hasn't happened yet. Yeah, I just confused myself also ha. If I was to regret anything in my life, it would be not staying in Texas with my family... and I don't know yet if that is the case. Only time will tell. I am just following my intuition so we will see.
Why are the kind of shoes a guy wears so important to women?
I had no idea that they were important to women. I wasn't included in that decision. And why is it? I don't know... but I do know whatever the reason is, it's retarded. There is no good reason for something like that.
Do men who nickname their penises make better lovers?
That is kind of gross... multiple penises? Hm... now that I think about it... maybe they do...
What subjects interested you in school?
Science for sure. Art also. I had an art scholarship. They took it away from me though.
When you were younger, was it obvious that you were going to get into something like modeling?
Yes and no. No because I was a total tomboy. Yes because I have always been the center of attention in some way, but doing it without being a totally loud, obnoxious jerk. Anyone would be the center of attention if they are being ridiculous.
If there was a movie made about you, who would play the part?
Juliette Lewis fo sho!
Has anything embarrassing ever happened to you during a shoot?
I really don't get embarrassed but something that would normally embarrass someone... hm... I started my period during a nude shoot ha. I dunno, that's all I can think of.
What do you think about the argument that sexually suggestive images promote the objectification of women?
Everyone is going to take things differently. We are not all, men and women, going to agree on a subject like this. This is one of those things like abortion or gay marriage... it should be left up to the person to decide what they want to do, and if someone else doesn't like it, who the fuck cares! If a female writes me and says I am making it easier for men to objectify women, fuck you. If a guy is going to objectify me because of my photos, that same guy would look at me in a parka and sweatpants and want to touch himself. If a guy wants to call me a whore because of it, that same guy would probably call his mother or wife a whore, and I am supposed to care about someone as worthless as that? Same thing with the other 2 topics previously mentioned... if you don't agree with abortion, don't have one. If you don't agree with gay marriage, don't be gay and don't marry a gay person. It is absolutely impossible for us to pass a law on such topics and have it be correct. We need to leave the situation alone and let people make their own decisions that best fit their life and the only law that should be involved is the right to be able to make that decision.
What is your personal opinion on abortion? Gay marriage? Racism?
Abortion... again, there are no exact guidelines we can go by with this. I do not think abortion should be illegal, I do think there should be a time frame of when you can have this procedure. I know that in most cases, unwanted pregnancy is due to lack of responsibility and the child shouldn't suffer because of it. BUT we are human. We fuck up. And then you have to realize that some of these pregnancies are due to sexual abuse in one way or another. Yes, the woman could have the child and give it up for adoption in these cases. They should be able to. But they should also be able to terminate the pregnancy, in a reasonable time frame, if they don't think they can handle the situation.
Gay Marriage and Racism... I am going to answer both of these at once. I cannot believe that we still have issues with this. It's disturbing to me that we are actually telling people they cannot get married because of WHO they want to marry. I have been a supporter and a partner in the Human Rights Campaign basically since it started, so that should sum up my views on that. And the fact that we still have issues with racism is fucking ridiculous and ignorant.
Has being a model ever made it difficult for people to take you seriously?
Being a female in general makes it difficult. You don't have to be a model or even extremely attractive to have to prove yourself everyday.
Does there need to be chemistry between the photographer and model to have a successful shoot?
In a way, yes. Not like a sexual connection or anything like that at all. But there needs to be an easy flow of communication, focused on work but not too serious, etc. I had one photographer hire me in Colorado when I was on a two week tour and he literally sat in a chair to take the photos and didn't say a word. 10 minutes into it, I left. Ridiculous.
What, if any, religion do you follow?
What I follow is not a religion; it is a mindset and a way of living and appreciation of life. Positivity.
What is the first joke that comes to mind?
What has 2 legs and bleeds? Half a cat.
What is your favorite animal? Color? Flower? Smell? Taste? Animal- Panda Bear, Duckbill Platypus, Skunk and Prairie Dog
Color- All greens, baby blue and my favorite color combination is red and white.
Flower- Bleeding Heart, Sunflower, Yellow Rose of Texas!
Smell- A really hot humid day in the summer of Texas when someone has just cut the grass. The beach. The way my dad smells when he comes home from work at the oil refinery. The way my fella smells when he's dirty.
Taste- Lots. Kiwi?

(Archives) Beautiful Lou Interview
Beautiful Lou is a producer, who also happens to occasionally rap, residing in San Antonio, Texas, who can always be reached at his #rare Tumblr. - http://beautifullou.tumblr.com/
His career may appear young, but his signature trademark of dark almost hymn-like gothic vocal samples combined with a slowed down BPM that is always screaming to be Screwed (pause?). Having produced for Lil B (Cocaine and the Illusions of Grandeur remix), Main Attrakionz (primarily Squadda, having produced on his I Smoke Because I Don't Care About Death album as well as the more recent Black Kings), and many talented lesser known emcees (Western Tink and Yachtsmen certainly come to mind first), Lou's profile has raised greatly since I met him a year ago.
I recently asked Lou for an interview, and he happily obliged; hopefully I can showcase the man behind the music as well as the producer and rapper in the light he deserves. Admittedly nervous about conducting my very first interview, I called up Lou on his phone and got ready to break that cherry (||).
Firstly, thanks for fucking with me, bro. You have no idea how much I appreciate your support; we're coming up in this game now together, and that seems so appropriate. But before we get to anything, because of how refined your music is, I really need to ask; how long have you been producing? Rapping?
Three to four years, but like a lot of the shit you're hearing now is pretty old. When I was in Dallas, I was more active making new beats, but when I moved to San Antonio, I couldn't really get anyone to rap on my shit. I liked the lyricists, but they weren't really feeling my shit, I guess that wasn't they were looking for. So, when I moved to San Antonio, I started fucking with the Internet real heavy - that lead me to Lil B, Squadda B. I was really about trying to keep it Texas, y'know, local; that's just the sound that I wanted to help promote, the artists around here. But when I checked with these people online, they had a style that really brought something to rap. They're kinda doing things on an avant-garde level, but they still keep it street.
Now that's kinda leading me to getting attention around here, with Lil B popping off, Squadda B getting attention from the blogs, which is crazy because I did production on SNYL from I Smoke Because I Don't Care About Death. Your style is very different from any producer I'm hearing out there; it obviously shares some sonic qualities with the emerging Based genre of production, specifically the lo-fi, scratchy effect, but it differs so greatly from producers like Clams Casino or Keyboard Kid. All those melancholic droning-samples, the dirty 808s, the funky bass reminiscent of Pimp C's trademark Southern comfort; it's all so welcoming, so breathtaking.
Who're some of your inspirations, past and present?
It's weird because I didn't even hear of Clams or Keyboard Kid before working with Lil B; but present, now I'm just listening to like a lot of the shit they're putting out, anyone that's working with Lil B. It's cool to be able see people that're in my same lane, really just soaking it up, seeing the type of sound we're created. Past? Really, the first CD that I bought with my own money was OutKast - Aquemini. That shit pretty much defines the type of sound that I'm trying to do. It just has a lotta screwed elements to it, especially on Aquemini; it just feels like Texas. Because we've been doing that down here, the pitched the horror music and stuff, y'know; it's a crunchy sound. Especially synths, and those types of instruments, they sound real good to me; it just creates a certain broken digital sound. But definitely Screw and Pimp C, just that sound that'll stick with you.
I know you're very #based, but your production bleeds with such sorrow - you seem like such a positive, upbeat guy from what I've heard from you and the times we've exchanged messages over the net. Even now on the phone, your tone is still bright, uplifting; does this music come from a certain place in your soul? Are you letting the song cry, word to Hova?
I guess I'm just trying to hit the emotion with that song - you know, those screwed vocals are just so sad, they hit that emotion with you. Like that first time I heard, even though it wasn't a pitched down vocal, you know that RZA song, Tearz? From 36 Chambers? The first time I heard that shit, it just hit me so emotionally; I just didn't know music could hit that chord with you. Just the way he pitched up chopped those vocals, pitched them up. Just something about that really stuck with me; those voices. Like that song I just gave to Lil B, the Illusions of Grandeur (Remix), there's just this sample there - and to me, his voice just makes the beat. It's just so dark and lonely.
So, Lou, you finally released your EP recently, something I've been waiting on personally for quite awhile. The EP isn't completely full of Lou raps - which kinda saddened me. The other tracks are exceptional, especially Squadda B's Black Kings and Lil B's Cocaine, two songs I was already a big fan of going into. But do you ever think you'll take up the mic more? I fucking love your flow man.. maybe it's that Southern drawl you have, but I don't think anyone sounds as good on your production as you.
 I dunno man, the producer thing popped off more; like I'm getting a lot of request for beats, and sometimes they'll request a feature too, because they've heard me do these freestyles. I mean, if I could - to be honest man, I dunno anyone around here who really has a proper studio, or even a mic or anything. In Dallas it was a lot easier, but here in San Antonio, there's not that many people doing it. But, once I get some more money saved up, I'm gonna try to get more studio time and everything. I think the direction I really wanna take is doing more freestyles, because I really like performing; that's what I wanna do more of, and of course I'm gonna do more songs. Plus, the video aspect has really popped off; you know, people just like watching that type of shit, the freestyle videos.
Yeah, I remember you dancing around in the video from the Letedra Bal4head, with you dancing around in the rain, that was just entertaining as hell.
[Lou laughs] Yeah, you know, I just had a lot more time back then, but now I'm so busy. I had so much more time back then when I first moved to San Antonio, no one was was really paying attention to me. But now, I'm just trying to get everything together; but I intend on doing more videos here when I get the time.
Where do you get most of your samples from? A lot of the samples are just so bleak, but I can't tell if they're taken directly from other musical outlets or not. At times I can't tell if you screwed the original sample to a crawl or if you happened to record a choir of dying angels. I mean that in the most complimentary way, too; a choir of dying angels is pretty epic.
I used to do soul beats, but now, I just sample a lot of New Wave, a lot of 80s artist from the French scene; those voices, those instruments, they're really the type of thing I'm looking for. Like I used to be a really big fan of Prince, so that's the time period I really look for. I go to a lot of different places to get like 25 cent CD's, you can find a lot of shit. I do like vinyl, but it's just a lot easier with CD's, plus they were more popular during that time frame I was looking for, and you know, no one's really mining that period. Plus a lot of the homeboys know the type of music that I like to sample, so they find stuff and bring it to me.
You've worked with some fantastic talents, and all of you continue to keep pushing out great music on a seemingly daily basis. Who're you working with now? Who do you really want to work with that you haven't had the opportunity to yet?
Well, right now I'm working with Western Tink; he came down here for SXSW. We did some songs, shot some videos. I really like him, think he's got a lot of potential, so I want to push him. He's really got a good sound, a good ear; I mean, some people don't like he raps, they think he's too basic, but he really get a good point across. Squadda B and the whole Green Ova crew, they've shown me a lot of love, so I'm really just trying to fuck with me. Pretty much Lil B too, man; I'm grateful that he's been working with me. That's pretty much it; I mean, I got Sed the Dean from Ohio, and Sam Rubik outta Brooklyn. They both pretty much hit me everyday, and I like their shit, I'll put it out.
And I'm really trying to fuck with Soulja Boy, man; I like that you write a lot about Soulja Boy, dog. There's just something about him; just the way he writes a hook, they're just so catchy. Even when he's just fucking around, he can't help but write a good chorus. I was really hoping the Lil B connection would help me, he said he'd send some stuff his way, but I don't really have an email for him.
But yeah, I really want to work with a lot of local talent; I like looking at the local scene, like K-Dog productions, it's got a lot of potential. It reminds me a little bit of the Dallas scene from like 07, 08. It's just the scene moves so quick; y'know, it's not like the scene has really moved, I dunno if you listen to much Dallas music -
I used to listen to Tum Tum's album a lot when Caprice Muzik was popping, but that's really as far as I go.
Yeah, I used to stay like right down the street from T-Town Music where Tum Tum was signed. I used to play beats for him - a lot of my older shit, my early shit. It was pretty wild, I hung out with him, a lotta local dudes; it was just fun being a part of that when that was starting to blow up. Like Mr. Pookie, Mr. Lucci, that was from around the way, around Simpson Grove, just being able to see them on TV, it really influenced me, anything that I really did.
Random as hell, but I need to hear Beautiful Lou laced Brick Squad with some beats, man.
Shit man, a big reason I even got into your blog was how much you were writing about Gucci. Like, he's one of my biggest influences, especially with the Burrprint [3D]; and he'd be like, the number one dude I want on one of my beats, dog. Like, even though I don't think it's his style, I think he can really come out of left-field. Like shit he does, like Anti-Social, all the singing and shit, I love that shit, man. But yeah, if I could get one rapper on my beat, it'd be Gucci.
Yeah man, Gucci's my favorite rappers, I've been listening to him and writing about him for way too long, taking it way too seriously.
Yeah man, but there is a lot of layers, and no one else really appreciates that shit. Like, that's why we're fucking with you and the other blogs, because no one writes about that type of shit, I don't think anyone else sees it. Like, growing up around those lyrics, I was always wondering "how come no one's into this shit?" Like everyone is all bigging up deep lyrics, conscious music, that shit, and I'm not trying to be too harsh on it - but no one's really paying attention to what we're doing. Just talking about money and riding around smoking weed in a creative way, just having a good time over crazy beats and shit. To me, Gucci like epitomizes that shit - I could go on about that for days.
I think that's the type of thing I wanna hear on my beats, you know, even though my shit is dark and ethereal shit, I just want people to talk about money, and just talking shit on my beats, just because it's such a great contrast to the beat. Like, all that shit, I listen to that shit all day.
With Lil B blowing up and being all over MTV, opening the doors even further for original, somewhat ambient producers/rappers like you, I've gotta ask; do you have dreams of ever going mainstream?
Shit, I'm glad just being local - even though I'm on the blogs, on the Internet, that's cool too. Like, I dunno if you read what I wrote, but I wrote that I used to just read rap magazines all day, just reading XXL and the Source at grocery stores when I was a kid. Like, the blogs are like the new magazine to me. I mean, I'm not gonna say that's good enough for me, but it still really trips me out. That's really all I got into it for at the first, just dreaming about you know, one day making it in the magazines. Even though it's really hard to make money outta music right now, it's just important to me to be talked about, to be a part of hip-hop history. Like you guys are really archiving it, putting it into context for everyone. Just getting recognized is all I need - I mean, I could make some money, I've been getting offers and everything - but just being talked about is enough.

i. amusement park
"It's been a while, hasn't it?" Sousuke says, eyes not leaving the screen. "Since we went to an amusement park. It might be fun, Kanae, with all the games and stuff."
Chopin pads into the room, silently, his box tucked under his arm- at the mention of games, he sets it down and takes a seat next to an armchair with seeming curiosity, content to gather information on this subject that has piqued his interest.
"See, even Chopin wants to go," Mozart whines, pouting at Kanae. "Come on, come on-"
"Fine," she grumbles, setting the broom against the wall and crossing her arms. "I guess we can go this weekend- no, not tomorrow! Sousuke and I have class," she reminds him.
3.1k words, betokanae.
on ao3.
"An amusement park?" Kanae says, cocking her head. "I haven't been to one of those since... since years ago, I think."
"It sounds so fun!" Mozart bounces on the balls of his feet, a giddy smile on his face, brandishing an advertisement of brightly colored Ferris wheels and laughing people in the air in front of her face. "Kanae, Kanae, let's go to an amusement park!"
"It's the girls, isn't it," Kanae mutters, resuming sweeping the floor.
"Aha." Mozart beams bashfully, scratching the back of his head. "You got me."
She sighs. Sousuke, laying across the couch with Pad-kun in his lap, speaks up.
"It's been a while, hasn't it?" He says, eyes not leaving the screen.
Mozart beams. He skids down the hall in his roller shoes to go tell Beethoven. Chopin raises his head from where it's balanced on his knees tucked to his chest.
~~~~~~
"This is the amusement park?" Liszt says, eyes glittering with excitement. "Marvelous! I can feel the love in the air already!"
"Love?" Schubert cocks his head, his hands tucked primly in his pockets.
"The amusement park is somewhere for young couples to have dates!" Mozart grins cheekily at Schubert, folding his hands behind his hat as he walks. "There'll definitely be some really cute girls here!"
Schubert turns his nose up at him.
"Someone should monitor you at all times, you public nuisance," he hisses, and Mozart turns on a dime and sprints away.
"Catch me if you can, then!" He shouts over his shoulder, and Schubert makes a noise of affronted outrage before bolting after him, unruly curls bouncing.
The rest of the group watches them go for a moment.
"Sometimes I wonder about how willing Schubert is to get roped into Motz's schemes," Kanae sighs, pulling out her map of the park again. "Do you guys want to-"
Chopin tugs on Liszt's sleeve, and mutters something in her ear. He's wearing wraparound sunglasses and headphones in an effort to stave off his fear of strangers, but he still stays hunched over on himself, and never strays far from Liszt's elbow.
"Oh?" She says, tilting her head to listen to him, then turning her head to Kanae. "I think Cho-chan wants to go play some of the game booths. We'll be back!"
"I'm coming too!" Sousuke announces, walking to Chopin's other side. "The best part of the park is the games! They'll be great, Chopin, you'll see..."
And the three of them make off in the opposite direction Schubert and Mozart had. That leaves-
"Ah," Kanae says, staring after them. "They left."
Beethoven frowns next to her.
"Is this, too, fate?" He mutters under his breath. Kanae doesn't seem to hear.
"Beethes, did you want to go on any of the rides in particular?" She says, pointing to a spot on her map. "I've been to this one, and this one, and that one's pretty good, and my friends like this one-"
He stares at the brightly-colored map.
"That one," he decides, because it has the biggest loop in the illustrated picture and it's bright red, and he looks around to try and discern where they are. Kanae, knowing better than to leave any kind of navigation to him, pulls on his sleeve and leads him in the right direction.
10 minutes later, they're standing in line for the coaster. Beethoven shifts his weight between his feet, glancing around, taking the whole place in- Kanae stuffs her hands in her pockets and wishes she had brought sunglasses against the bright midday sunlight.
"Girl," he says abruptly, eyes tracking something with fierce intensity, "what is that?"
She turns and sees he's staring at- a young girl, holding her mother's hand, with a giant puff of pink cotton candy fluffed on a stick in her grip.
"Oh," she says, "cotton candy. We can go and get some after this ride, if you want."
He's still staring at the girl's candy enviously as she walks away with her mother, so Kanae whacks him on the shoulder.
"Don't be a creep," she says, exasperated. "I'll buy you one later. Geez, I can't believe Motz and Chopin convinced Sousuke to buy their tickets and games and stuff."
The lines are short, so they get on the ride relatively quickly, and Beethoven looks torn between puking and using his Muzik the entire time they're strapped into the seats- Kanae laughs at both his expression and with the giddy exhilaration of the ride. She's still laughing as they disembark, and Beethoven wobbles on his legs, grabbing onto Kanae's shoulder for support.
"So fast," he mutters, even though he's commanded robots and giant penguins and all kinds of other shit with his baton, and he stretches each long, gangly leg by itself before shaking his head like a soaked dog.
"That's why they're fun!" Kanae smiles, but seems to sag a little. "Though, I can say I've had enough of the flying-around-in-the-air stuff for a little while."
They're content to wander around the park for a little bit.
"Wolf and I were performers in one of those... hero shows, they're called," Beethoven says, pointing, "in an attempt to make money a while ago."
Kanae laughs. She seems to have allowed the stress of the constant landlady-ing of 5 genetically engineered classical composing legends lift from her shoulders.
"I don't know why I was the one to play the monster," he mutters, crossing his arms.
They come up on a snack stall. Beethoven freezes at the sight of the enormous clouds of cotton candy set on the ledge of the storefront. Kanae rolls her eyes, and they approach the window.
"Hi!" She says. "Can I get, uh... a cotton candy, and a popsicle?"
The man behind the counter grins at them. Beethoven points stubbornly at a pink-colored ball of cotton candy, a grin cracking his face when the man pulls it off the stand and hands it to him. He pulls a tuft off with his fingers and sets it imperiously on his tongue.
"Sweet..." he murmurs. It dissolves in his mouth. Kanae rolls her eyes, a slightly affectionate smile tugging at the corner of her mouth, and hands the man a few coins out of her wallet. He trades her for a popsicle from the freezer.
The paper crinkles as she unwraps it, pulling the wrapper around the wooden stick to catch any melted ice. She catches Beethoven eyeing it. She frowns at him.
"Hey, you have your own-"
"Is the point of this venture not to experience new things?' He huffs, and before she can do more than frown and open her mouth, he reaches over, wraps her hand in his, leans down to pull her popsicle to his own mouth, bites off a good chunk.
"B-" Kanae shrieks. "Beethes!"
Her face is flushed pink. He pulls away, and chews thoughtfully on his bite of frozen sugar, staining his tongue purple, his hand only slipping from its place around Kanae's after a moment, like an afterthought. His palm had been warm and dry against the back of her hand, Kanae realizes, and more blood floods her cheeks at the thought.
"I bought you your own for a reason," she says weakly, hating how her voice falters.
He blinks, as if only realizing the unfairness of his actions, and rips off a chunk of his own cotton candy.
"I will repay you in kind," he says, but as she reaches up to take it, he pulls just slightly away- whenever she tries to grab it, he tugs it just out of her reach.
She glares up at him.
He offers the candy again.
"You're messing with me, aren't you," she mutters. He pushes the cotton candy resolutely closer.
She leans forward- hesitates, as though arguing with herself- and takes it from his hand with her mouth.
A moment later, as the sugar is dissolving on her tongue, she whips back around, face furiously red now, and says something about going to play some of the game booths- Beethoven hurries after her, as susceptible to her wishes as always, but with a warm feeling he hardly recognizes unfolding in his chest. He takes another bite of his cotton candy and lopes after Kanae. A smile pulls at the corners of his mouth.
~~~~~~
"My kitten!" A familiarly bubbly voice calls, and Kanae spins around, looking for Liszt's curly blonde head. "Over here!"
She spots the woman in question, pulling Sousuke and Chopin behind her, and pulls on Beethoven's sleeve. He glances around.
"Ah?" Liszt coos, coming up closer. "Have you two been together this whole time?"
"Er." Kanae says, suddenly stiff at this new turn of conversation. "Yes, well-"
"Ah!" Liszt exclaims, eyelashes fluttering against her cheeks in delight, a flush rising high on her cheeks. "Is this love? It must be!"
"Liszt-san!" Kanae shouts, jerking. "Don't say things that are easily misinterpreted, please!"
Beethoven frowns.
"What are those?" He asks, pointing at the colorful parcels overflowing from Chopin's arms.. Sousuke is looking at them, slightly jealously. He clutches one stuffed hamster with a kind of pride.
Chopin looks at his items.
"Prizes," he says softly, a smile pressing onto his face. "From the game stalls."
"Oh, Chopin-san!" Kanae exclaims. "You're lucky! Sousuke and I are no good at those games."
She smiles. Sousuke exclaims in outrage at her words, but Pad-kun sets him straight, quoting his rate of acquiring prizes versus the amount of money and time he has spent on the games. Sousuke sags in dejected defeat. Pad-kun snickers mercilessly.
"Prizes." Beethoven mutters under his breath. "So there is a competitive element to this amusement park."
He grabs Kanae's hand.
"Girl!" He says. "I intend to try to play these 'game stalls'!"
"Eh?" Kanae yelps, before she's almost unceremoniously dragged off. "Beethes- Beethes! Hey, hold on! Are you listening?"
"See you soon!" Liszt calls out after them, beaming her dazzling smile.
She watches the pair of them disappear into the crowd.
"Ah," she sighs dreamily, crossing her hands on her bosom. "Love!"
~~~~~~
"Hit the cans with this laser gun!" A woman shouts, waving to gather the attention of people from the crowd. "Get a prize! Over here!"
Beethoven pulls Kanae to the center of the row of game stalls, looking around, assessing his environment. He hasn't let go of Kanae's wrist. His fingers are warm and firm against her skin.
She thinks suddenly of another time she had felt those hands around her wrists- the highlighter pink he had blushed, the swooping feeling in her own stomach, Beethoven's blanked-out expression when his hands were so tight against her- she flushes pink and casts it out of her mind. It's not important right now.
"Hmm." He murmurs, scanning the stalls with sharp eyes. "Will destiny lead me victory today?"
"Beethes," she groans. "Just pick a stall."
He picks a stall- a water-gun game- and proceeds to beg more money off her. After the first two games, which yielded nothing, she had crossed her arms and set her mouth into a firm line, but his accursed pleading eyes had resulted in a handful more coins dropped into his palm.
Damn him, Kanae thinks. She should never have given in and bought him that coffee. Now he knows what works on her.
"Uuuaaaah!" Beethoven suddenly shouts- a shout of victory, because he's finally hit enough of the cans, or whatever the game consists of. The man behind the counter hands him his prize- a stuffed purple squirrel the size of both Kanae's fists. Beethoven takes it, and after basking in his victory for one more moment, turns abruptly and pushes it into Kanae's arms.
"E-eh?" She stammers.
"It's yours," Beethoven says, folding his arms imperviously.
She blinks down at it. It's cute, sure. Soft against her fingertips. She looks up again, about to protest, but something in his eyes stops her.
"Thank you," she says instead, stroking its ear, smiling slightly. "Beethes."
~~~~~~
They meet back up with Schubert and Mozart briefly. Schubert's clothes are rumpled, his bow looking like it's been toyed with and messily re-tied, and Mozart is grinning like a beast. Kanae doesn't want to know what kind of trouble he's been causing.
"Oh, oh!" He beams. "It's Kanae and Lud-kun!"
"S-senpai!" Schubert shrieks, hastily making to tidy his coat. His efforts are ineffective at best. Beethoven doesn't even seem to notice.
"Where did you guys go?" Kanae asks, cocking her head.
Mozart grins.
"Schu-kun wanted to check out the Ferris wheel!" He laughs, and Schubert turns to him, stuttering.
"You're the one who dragged me there, you devil!" He shouts, then turns alarmingly red. "A-and-"
Kanae blinks.
"And?" She says.
Schubert coughs. Mozart looks, alarmingly, like the cat who's got the cream.
"Never mind," Schubert mutters. Mozart giggles and pats him on the shoulder.
"Okay!" He says, as upbeat as ever. "Schu-kun! You have to buy me funnel cake if you want your gloves back! Race you there!"
He bolts off, and Schubert jerks- he looks down at his hands, which are, indeed, bare- and grits his teeth.
"Mozart!" He shouts. "Get back here! You demon-"
And he races off, chasing after a pink lump of a hat weaving and bobbing in the crowd.
"Ferris... wheel?" Beethoven mutters.
Kanae sighs.
"That thing," she says, pointing at the top half of the wheel they can see over the roofs of the stalls. "It spins, and brings the people in the capsules up, and back down again."
He squints at it.
"Interesting." He declares. "Let's go."
He grabs her wrist again.
"Beethes!" Kanae shouts, but he's already off.
~~~~~~
They board the wheel without much difficulty.
"So this is the Ferris wheel," Beethoven says, face pressed against the glass. Kanae's hands are resting on the stuffed squirrel in her lap. "It goes around in a circular motion, carrying the capsules and the people within them around its circumference."
"I came here with my grandmother, once or twice," Kanae says, voice fond. Beethoven turns to look at her. "Isn't the view amazing?"
It's true. It's even higher than the roof of the mansion, Beethoven thinks, as they near the top, and it feels like they can see all of Hanamatsu, or even all of Shizuoka prefecture, from here. This would be a fine place to drink his 60-bean coffee, Beethoven thinks, taking in the sun setting over the horizon and the way its hued light bathes everything in sight in warmth.
He glances to the girl sitting across from him. Kanae is patting the stuffed animal he'd given her in her lap absently, staring out across the view with an indescribable look on her young face. Two parts nostalgia, one part contentedness, one part fondness, Beethoven observes.
"Indeed," he says, his eyes fixed on the only view he can see.
Kanae blinks and turns to face him- she catches him staring, and turns pink, not just from the sunset.
"What?" She says. "Do I have something on my face?"
Beethoven opens his mouth, but no sound comes out. He's never been good at communicating with words, he remembers, even in his previous life, preferring to present his emotions in his music.
Kanae stills. She seems to sense there's something off.
"Are you-" She starts to say, but there's a grinding screech, and the movement of the car stops.
Beethoven blinks.
"Does this usually happen on Ferris wheel rides?" He asks.
Kanae scoots to the end of her seat to try and peer down to the station in front of the wheel on the ground. There are people swarming around.
"Ahaha." She laughs nervously. "I'm sure they'll have it fixed soon..."
They sit in silence for a moment.
"Did you enjoy the park?" Kanae asks, breaking the quiet.
"I found it fascinating and educational." Beethoven says, rubbing the corner of his mouth with one hand. "
There's a pause.
"Did you enjoy it?" He asks abruptly. Kanae starts.
"Me?" She says, pressing one fingertip to her lip thoughtfully. His gaze is drawn to it unconsciously. The air in the compartment is tense, suddenly, not exactly strained, but more weighted with something unnamed. Beethoven feels it settling deep in his bones like a warm bath- all-encompassing, and permeating, and making him sweat. It hangs heavy in the air. It makes him want to reach out and take her hand again.
So he does. He's never been one for self-deprivation, or distrust of his instincts. Kanae makes a high-pitched noise, and turns an alarming shade of pink, but her eyes are wide in the fading sun and her lips part slightly, unconsciously, when she meets his gaze.
His breath stutters in his chest. He's not used to this. This is a whole new realm of anything he's ever felt, and that makes him all the more determined to persevere.
"Beethes..." Kanae says quietly, looking up at him, flushed, something seeming on the tip of her tongue. "I-"
There's a clunk, and a shudder, and the Ferris wheel starts to move again.
~~~~~~
"Ah, there they are!" Liszt waves them down. Their little group is framed in setting sunlight from afar. "My kitten!"
"Sorry!" Kanae pants, jogging up to them. "The Ferris wheel got stopped when we were in it!"
Beethoven follows close behind.
"Oh?" Mozart waggles his eyebrows at her. "Anything interesting happen?"
"Don't be crude, Wolf," Beethoven says disapprovingly, crossing his arms. "It's uncouth."
"Silence speaks louder than words, Lud-kun," Mozart snickers, laughing harder when Kanae turns red and starts to scold him. Sousuke takes a bite out of his cotton candy. Chopin shifts his bounty of game stall prizes in his arms, looking satisfied. Schubert, looking marginally more neat, makes a snarky half-statement about Mozart's crudeness. Beethoven says nothing, blushing furiously pink, arms folded across his chest. The entire scene is bathed in the warmth of a rose-tinted sunset.
"Ah," Liszt sighs, smiling in bliss, one perfectly manicured hand fluttering above her heart. "This is love!"
