real people cant queerbait, sure, but celebrities often arent acting as real people, theyre selling you a persona and can intentionally mold that around queer audience engagement in some cases. and thats murky water but still undeniably wet. plus whatever misha collins did of course

This year I read The Sunbearer Trials and Cemetery Boys, they were both deliciously queer and vibrantly told stories! I cannot wait for more from this author because I will happily devour anything he writes!

Transland: Consent, Kink and Pleasure by Mx. Sly
goodreads
Tumblr media
Transland is a fiery and revealing memoir that explores what happens when a non-binary person goes looking for self-worth and a sense of belonging in fetish subculture, only to find that fetish communities come with just as many problematic rules, expectations, and hierarchies as mainstream ones. Moving from wide-eyed optimism that the fetish community is the promised land to realizing the ways fetish communities—even queer ones—reinforce the commodification of bodies, Mx. Sly examines how BDSM helped them understand and articulate their gender, how kink helped them turn shameful experiences into liberating ones, and how they became disillusioned with the BDSM scene—without rejecting the lessons fetish taught them.  The stories in Transland explore PTSD, intergenerational trauma, memory, consent, gender transition and diversity, queer relationships and subculture, and a lot of bondage. An odyssey of kinky hookups (including a charismatic Toronto femdomme, an Aussie rope bondage expert, and the queer sex tourism neighborhood of Bangkok), gender euphoria, and testing the limits of sensual experience, this memoir is a candid exploration of fetish communities and practices and a wandering quest through sensuality toward personal strength and self-reliance. Sexy, gutting, graphic, and existential, Transland is about finding oneself through intense sensations, reaching a point where being hit has diminishing returns, and coming out wiser on the other side.
Mod opinion: I haven't read this one yet, but it sounds so interesting I hope to get around to it soon!

"Mx. Sinister" Engineer/Medic - Chapter 2
Chapter 1
CW: Stalking, obsession and things of that nature.
The sun showed its glowing face at last and slowly, the room grew brighter and brighter until it was only slightly dimmer than the outside world.
Dell retreated into the closet, like a vampire that feared the light. He closed the door behind him with care, as to not make a sound. He hid behind a shoe shelf where he was short enough to be snugly hidden and of course, able to comfortably observe his beautiful stranger.
He looked to the clock on the bedside table and counted soundlessly on his fingers. On the last beat, the alarm went off, chiming like an old music box. He wondered if the occupant had memories of the tune, perhaps he’d had a device like it in his youth. Dell thought to make him one someday.
The occupant began to stir with a groan, followed by a long, sleepy stretch. He silenced the alarm, blindly fumbling for his rounded glasses from the bedside table, not questioning them for even a moment as he hooked them over his ears. Finally, the stranger opened his eyes, revealing the colour in them that had been hidden from view all night. Dell committed the vibrancy of them to memory, hoping to envision them in his dreams. His beautiful stranger splayed his hands and cracked his knuckles, inadvertently displaying his gorgeous fingers as they curled, cracked, and popped in all sorts of wonderful ways.
Dell looked away out of respect as he discarded the blankets, knowing full well that the strapping creature before him preferred to sleep in the nude. He had never expected to meet such a stunning thing, and though he was yet to hear his voice, he imagined it to be like that of a songbird; light and naturally melodical. He needed to hear him speak, to hear his name on his lips.
The door opened with a cautioning squeak and Dell froze completely, knowing that if he remained still, he wouldn’t be noticed. Shyly, he looked up, making a note to only look at his eyes, which were focused on the rows of starched shirts on the hooks above. He picked one out, along with a pair of dress pants and a tie to match. The door closed, and he heard the distinct rustle of clothes as the man dressed himself for work.
Knowing that he would now be decent, Dell peeked out again to adore the sophisticated, gorgeous creature. The man was a sharp contraption, with a stern jaw, thin lips, high cheekbones, rounded glasses, and dark hair that he would soon comb. His outfit was flattering, bringing out the best of his figure whilst cleverly masking the pieces that weren’t – at least in the occupant’s eyes – not up to par. He rummaged through a leather bag, checking its contents before slinging it over his shoulder. The man finally left the room, likely to groom himself and to have breakfast.
Dell waited, patient as ever.
...
The purr of an engine filled the silence, gradually fading out into nothingness.
Dell thought to finally leave his haven and rose to his feet, his back cracking in protest. He explored the bedroom all over again, picking up trinkets, reading the spines of books on the shelf and browsing through every drawer. He took note of the paintings on the wall, curious as to what his newfound love’s tastes were. He investigated as much as he could, hoping to learn more about the man who had stolen his heart.
The Texan moved on to the bathroom and investigated the rows and rows of bottles on the shelves. One was a fancy sort with a deep orange liquid in it, and he figured that it was the cologne the stranger liked. He tried one of the moisturisers on the shelf out of sheer curiosity but scowled at the coldness of the cream. He wasn’t the type for all this maintenance. His mechanical work deserved all of this care more than he did. He stroked his palm, noting how soft the calloused flesh became. He investigated the hair products but didn’t bother to experiment with any, feeling as though there would be little point with hair as short as his.
Instead, he opened the caps and smelled the products, trying to discern which of them made up the delightful scent he had become so familiar with. He examined the man’s toothbrush, choice of razor alongside his shaving creams. He browsed through the cabinet and discovered extra combs, creams, shoe polish and rags to accompany it. He gave the polish a gentle shake and noticing that it was almost empty. He went to put it back down but noticed something peculiar. A familiarly shaped small tub was hidden from view and Dell smiled mischievously.
He thought to take a shower, as any remaining water would be dried up by the time the apartment’s owner came home. He stripped down and dropped his dirty flannel shirt and slacks on the floor. He kicked off his boots, lifted his undershirt over his head and dropped his boxers on top of the pile. He looked to the mound of clothes and made a mental note to wash them. Dell peeled the shower curtain back and stepped inside, the cold tiles nipping at the pads of his feet.
He hastily turned on the shower head and icy water flowed out at first, slowly warming. He stepped underneath it, the stream of water instantly soaking his hair and running down his head, flowing down to the rest of him. He washed his face before moving down to his body, his fingers brushing the rough scars on his chest as he scrubbed himself. He borrowed one of the man’s razors to shave, thoroughly washing the grey-blonde hair from the blade before putting it back.
He willed himself to turn off the water and to leave the soothing heat. Water dripped from his curvy, plump figure as he fetched a towel from the rack, wrapping it around his waist and enveloping himself with a cocoon of his love’s smell.
Dell scooped up his clothes and moved on to the laundry room. He threw them in and started the machine. It’d be done long before the apartment’s occupant made it back from work. The machine whirred and clattered, indicative that it would soon need a service. He’d give it a tune up another time.
Next, he browsed through the refrigerator which was stocked with plentiful fruits, vegetables, and meat to be cooked. He fetched an apple from the crisper and took a large bite, noticing a familiarly blue sheet of paper on the dining table. It rested there, fully opened as if it wanted him to take a peek.
He examined it carefully, grinning at the sight of a machine unbeknownst to him. It wasn’t his typical design, both in function and aesthetic, but the more he read the annotations, the more he understood. It was a medical device, designed to heal wounds nearly instantly. Just the idea made him want to kiss the stranger, but the sheer detail of his notes drove him just about mad with newfound desire. He had known that his beautiful stranger was clever, but he could never anticipate such brilliance, or his similar love for innovation.
…But despite that, the design was flawed.
If it were to be made following the blueprint, it would not function at all. He picked up a nearby pencil and eraser and rubbed out some of the notes. Using the gunslinger, he effortlessly mimicked the stranger’s handwriting and made a few crucial adjustments to the annotations, providing a more suitable material for the outside and wiring for the inside. He altered the design slightly, upping its efficiency. He put it back down, with the pencil and eraser in their proper location.
Dell hoped with everything he had that the occupant would start building the contraption when he returned home. He wanted to see those clever hands construct the device in all its glory and hear his overjoyed laughter when it came into fruition. Normally, Dell experienced those pleasures alone, but this time, he’d feel it with someone else. Maybe then he would come out of hiding and admit his secret; that it was all thanks to him.
And in that elated moment, he would be accepted with open arms. The man would learn that he wasn’t at all a sinister creature, rather, an admirer. He’d have all of the missing pieces of the man he loved – his name, his voice and his affection. He would even have his love.

How does one piece have so many chapters
Like, i already knew it had entered full Like This territory....... back when I stalled out after half a decade of following weekly updates, thirteen years ago
Anyways. Officially at chapter 700. I can only do like 50 a day and accomplish the other tasks of adult life, including, hilariously, trying to focus on moby dick at the same time. But I've finally reached the arc i started reading to get to. If i draw the silly sad clown dad, i just want you to know that if you've been following me for long, you should know better than to expect highbrow tastes in this bar
