A/N: Totally writing this thing because of a cute chat session I had with some wonderful people on a Hazbin discord server, it's a shitposty idea but it was a cute one so I couldn't help but write about it. A continuation to "Get off my Screen!" is in the works alongside some other requests too! I'm just glad it was received so well, thanks y'all!

A/N: Btw, the chibi Vox art isn't mine. I might draw something similar with a Y/N eventually though so message me or request it in my askbox if you wanna see it XD

You wished you could say it was a normal day.

But truth be told-

It was so far off from that.

The Vee tower was complete mess by the time you had arrived.

The place was often busy, you knew that much-

But to fall into complete disarray?

Your beloved would have never even allowed it.

Speaking of your lover, where the hell was he?

His absence left you more than puzzled, this was Vox you were talking about after all.

Mr. I-have-to-keep-an-eye-on-everything-or-it-all-entirely-goes-to-shit-

You couldn't say he was wrong this time however, walking towards the elevator with intent to find the other Vees.

But of course they ended up finding you first.

It was Velvette who abruptly dragged you away from the chaos in the office.

Not that you still quite understood what was going on and the reason for her urgency.

"WhaA- Vel??"

"Sorry darling, we've got a bit of an issue as you can clearly tell- but there's just something I absolutely must show you."

You didn't really even have time to ask questions before you saw Valentino rush past you.

Was he holding a phone in each hand?

He barely even greeted you in his hasty exit, probably too busy with the 4 phone conversations he was having simultaneously.

All this chaos and your boyfriend still hasn't shown up.

You started getting worried that something happened to him.

But what Velvette ended up showing you was definitely not at all what you expected.

Especially since you didn't expect to find Vox here of all places.

That and... he wasn't quite himself.

Not that you were complaining, but it was really weird seeing your boyfriend so tiny.

He was probably plushie-sized to be honest.

You would have found it cute if it weren't for the shock from everything else.

The tiny Vox visibly perked up when he saw you.

Was he beeping or squeaking?

"What... what the fuck even happened???"

"Do you want the whole story or a TLDR?"

While you lightly poked the smaller Vox that stood atop the table, Velvette quickly updated you on what had transpired before your arrival.

Apparently, Vox had gone and gotten himself in trouble with some goons earlier in the day.

It wasn't often Vox would get hurt by anything, he was an overlord after all-

But sometimes people got lucky or they really just ganged up on him in big numbers.

The good news was he won, the bad news was he'd gotten pretty beat up because of it.

Shattered screen, fried motherboard, stray wires, and a whole other myriad of issues to boot.

He'd come back to the tower needing a ton of repairs.

Problem was, he'd run out of the needed spare parts and his backup body wasn't in any good condition to be used either.

So go figure, your creative boyfriend decided to handle his situation in another way after he'd put in the order for said needed parts.

They'd probably arrive in just a few days but seriously-

You could only stare at the tiny version of your lover in bewilderment.

There was absolutely no understanding of what was running through this man's brain.

He was even wearing a miniature version of his typical outfit, coat and all!

"Soooo... has he just been in here the whole time?"

"Pretty much. He doesn't really talk either, Val and I haven't figured out if it's because he can't or won't."

"Oh lord."

You sighed and pinched the bridge of your nose, patting the tiny Vox with your hands.

You honestly wanted to be more mad at the situation-

But Vox really just looked too cute.

You just wanted to freakin squeeze him-

"I'm gonna need a purse to carry him around..."

"Oh wow, you're treatin' 'im like a pet already."

You rolled your eyes at Velvette's comment, looking down at your currently tiny boyfriend to find him staring at you.

He had absolutely no business being this cute-

"I'm taking him home, I'd gather that you and Val can handle things here?"

"For the most part, just be a dear and make sure nothing else happens to 'im until his parts arrive."

You just rolled your eyes again.

Great way of stating the obvious Velvette.

Besides, Vox was still an overlord and the strongest of the Vees.

His powers shouldn't have been affected in this form right??

There was no way your beloved went ahead and made himself as harmless as he looked-

At least that's what you had hoped.

However, you picked him up in both hands- you were starting to doubt that.

Vox merely tilted his monitor head to get a better look at you before beeping, his legs dangled slightly from how you held him.

BEEPING AGAIN.

WHERE ARE YOUR WORDS FOOL-

"Huh, he's never made that sound before."

You were really starting to regret even walking into the building today.

And that was of course when your miniature boyfriend decided it was the perfect time to lightly zap you.

It didn't hurt, but it was enough for your attention to go back to him.

Only to see his face all pink with a bunch of hearts emoticons on it.

This little shit-

You really couldn't stay mad at him for long.

Eventually when you were able to get a grip on yourself, Velvette handed you a purse to put Vox in as requested- and you were on your way home.

What did the other Vees even expect you to do with Vox like this?

Did you accidentally become your boyfriend's babysitter??

Today was just way too tiring for you already.

You practically collapsed on the couch once you got home.

Dropping the purse with tiny lover in it on one of the nearby cushions, you didn't really care about the annoyed squeaking that came from inside the bag from the rough landing.

Vox just crawled out of the small purse with a huff.

He figured you would've liked him being all cute this way.

But judging by your reactions-

He couldn't tell if you liked it or hated it.

He did feel slightly bad seeing how tired you were though.

Practically waddling over towards you, Vox patted your head trying to get your attention.

When that didn't work he started beeping and squeaking until you raised your head and looked at him again.

And you were surprised when he awkwardly moved to hug you.

Well, hug your face rather.

The words: "I'm sorry." flashing on his tiny screen.

You sighed tiredly.

Even if he was a little infuriating at times, you still loved Vox's antics.

This one included.

"It's okay, I'm okay. Everything just happened way too fast."

A heart then appeared on his tiny screen face and you pretty much melted.

He was just too fuckin cute.

Is there any particular artist, show, game, or movie that inspired ur art style? It’s so pretty ^^

I have so many!!! I definitely can't name every single one but heres a few that have been extremely influential to me!! This took me 2 hours to write i am SO sorry lmao

Puyo Puyo (Specifially Fever, Quest, and Tetris)

CUTESY BRIGHT BRIGHT COLORS!!!!!! Thats everything I love!!!!!! I'm pretty sure I talked about this when I first got into puyo puyo but I for SURE instantly decided that yep Im steering my style in this direction sorryyyyyy!!! I just think its so fun and silly and cute and rahhh it makes me so happy.

Especially for the work I do most often, which is character portraits without backgrounds, I will often look at puyo puyo posing just to get ideas!! (I've drawn Arle's dumbfounded pose 100000000 times becus I love it so much). The puyo puyo anatomy has very noodly arms and legs but with big ass shoes and accessories which is probably my favorite design thing in the world....

I seriously recommend just looking through the Puyo Puyo Nexus wiki for pose ideas (if you want something cute/silly of course) because every single one is just perfect. I am trying to get out of some dumb art habits of my own right now, but hopefully in the future you'll be able to see more goofy poses with sillier effects :3

Muse Dash Again I want you to look at the COLORS. Its so bright and this time you can really tell where I took my shading style from. I dont want my shadows to be dark I want them to be PINK or PURPLE. thank you. For my own art, I really try to make it so the darkest "black" is actually a deep purple or blue, and as I keep making art that dark color keeps getting just a bit lighter haha...

This is also the reason I color my lineart the way I do. I just really want to add as many colors as possible into the image. And if the image looks a bit more pink after that then thats just an extra perk!!

I also need to bring up the animation because they're just so bouncy and alive!!! This is like an instant stunlock for me, I have to look at them, theyre so BOUNCYYY!!!!!! I don't do much animation but every other week I get the sudden urge to try tweening again just to eventually get to the point I can make something similar to these for my own ocs lol

Great Pretender This show has some of the most gorgeous art ive ever seen. All the backgrounds are so bright and colorful. I dont usually draw art with backgrounds anymore sadly, but when I used to I really tried to study these for them. And I hope in the future I can make more art and show how far I've come.

Though I;ve changed to a more chibi style in recent times (thanks puyo puyo), this was still one of the first times I had ever watched a show and said "Oh my god I love this artstyle I need to get better at art" and Its always in my mind for that reason.

Ive definitely stolen lots of elements from the style. Though they've gotten more subtle over the years. I dont really know how to describe it any further but I hope you understand what I mean by looking at these screenshots,,,

5. favorite little detail in a drawing you did

this one was kind of hard to answer because i lean so much more to simplification over 1:1 detail... that said, i really loved these ones!

the bag from the top photo is from here, minato nui on left is from some con-related draws, the ballpoint splatling on right is from a vintage draws compilation!

i just really enjoy drawing little objects and props, and as much as i'm allergic to backgrounds, i hope to overcome that next year because my friends know i love getting obsessed over random objects for a few days...

9. any new art mediums youve tried (or overall styles if you havent tried new mediums)

i haven't gotten to do much mediums outside of digital art unfortunately.... but i would say this year was the year of chibification! i turned so many characters into little guys this year (shoutout to the nui tree!). which is really ironic because i also realized this year i find full illustrations more satisfying to work on throughout the process, despite the "simplicity" of chibis.

i did some limited color styles too! (blue, purple, and red + b/w). hopefully i can do more deliberate color palette stuffs though. i think it'd be a great exercise.

stylistically wise i think i could've tried more, but. its ok! thats what 2024 is for. yipee!

it feels like a cop out answer to say this but any gift art i got of my splatoon character... LOL... i didn't expect to get so attached to him (i changed my name in game to minatoast a JOKE!!!!). um. drops this gallery link here and scuttles away. im so very grateful. you're telling me people actually took time out of their day to draw my little guy? incredible!

this art from tin of ryomina with flowers is so. oh my god. i was SO BEWILDERED AND HAPPY!!! i was minding my own business and then saw this rt'd on one of my friend's pages... i forget who lol but i was like "WAIT TIN Kick_TheeCan DREW RYOMINA??? I LOVE THEIR ART OF THE P3 PROTAG WHAT." i feel like i got pushed down a staircase in tartarus (positive)

Now that my PC has recovered, here is all the art I've gotten of my squirrelboi, Dust. (unless I've missed something)

First the reference image, showcasing the model that @/olivercanticle revised for me (based on a much more simple model I made in Vroid)

Next, with a small story attached; my friend @/maplejava was at one point doing emergency commissions, I pitched in on Ko-fi, but told him that there wasn't anything in particular I wanted.

MY DUDE DECIDED HE WAS DOING SOMETHING ANYWAY AND SURPRISED ME WITH THIS WONDERFULLY STUPID IMAGE. (Context: I'm a sex-repulsed Asexual)

But that's not where maple's surprises would end, because he has also been working on a VRChat map that's kind of meant to be a hub or sorts for our friend group.

So while making that map, he adds in a Soda machine and decides, "you know what? I'm just going to put TJ's Character on there, imitating the boxart of the PS1 classic Pepsiman"

On the more tame side of things, as mentioned in that previous post, I've commissioned @/lenoxmst-blog to draw him a couple times (fun fact: He came up with the idea of having the rim of his goggles reference back to the Godot mask that Henry, my Yoshi character has always had)

And then, inspired by my Lobotomy Corporation playthrough, I asked Lenox for another piece where he's barely holding it together. (This game is amazing and also I have SO much fun editing this image)

chapter 2 is coming. here's makoto and kurumi.

a lot of design notes under the cut, both about these guys and the nda detectives

yuma was specifically given a little facial hair because, in the canon of the fic, he's been too busy to actually shave. however, the out-of-canon reason is that my art style is so chibi cutesit that it makes everyone look a bajillion years younger than they actually are. yuma's design is already a little young-looking despite most evidence in-canon pointing to him being an adult, so i wanted to give him that extra signifier of being a grown ass man.

the longer hair is also there for the same reasons - he hasn't gotten it cut for a while, and the bowl cut made him look childish.

because i have chronic same-face-syndrome, i put yuma and makoto in the same pose to emphasize that they are, genetically, the same person.

honestly, makoto's design versus yuma's in-game really makes it clear just how much a haircut and outfit change can make a character look older. with makoto wearing a suit and having hair that isn't in the perfect shape of a bowling ball, he looks a lot more like a young adult with a babyface. because i feel like he doesn't need the extra age signifiers (and because i feel like he'd want to differentiate himself from yuma more), i didn't give him the facial hair.

the "looking less like yuma" angle is also why he still bleaches and grows out his hair.

i like to think makoto starts taking better care of himself postgame, so i made his hair a bit fluffier and softer-looking to show he's actually been brushing and washing it. i mean, come on. canon makoto ily but you look like a greased-up yorkshire terrier.

i also gave makoto curtain bangs because girl... you have a forehead the size of the moon. i'm also a member of large forehead gang so i understand you pain but still.

makoto's outfit is actually loosely based on an outfit i own irl! i have a hawaiian shirt with similar colors (albeit a different pattern) and blue swim trunks with red lobsters on them.

makoto probably sunburns really easily, both as a result of being pale as fuck (yuma also has this issue) and being a homunculus (he won't die in the sun, but it does result in a mild allergy). so just imagine he's always lathered in sunscreen.\

mentally, makoto is the same age as yuma (so 20 when this fic takes place) and kurumi is 19 (i headcanon she's only a year younger than yuma). chronologically, they are both about four years old. #justhomunculusthings

i changed kurumi's hairstyle because her canon one is stupid. like why does she have two skinny ass braids hidden in her coat. give her those long luscious locks.

she's wearing disposable gloves to protect her hands, and almost all of her clothing is specifically designed to reflect uv rays.

you'll notice the inside of kurumi's mouth is actually a different color than any of the master detectives. that's the homunculus baby!!!

i gave her an ahoge because i hope she gets the protag treatment for the next game. also i hope she and shinigami become girlbesties and also that shinigami gets the fuck over herself. um ok now time for design notes abt the other people. artwork here if u didn't see the og one.

desuhiko actually does turn 20 in the timeframe of the fic. his birthday party is a future chapter.

he gets knockoff heelys in the upcoming chapter bcuz i think he'd enjoy them. but he got them flippy floppys in the meantime.

fubuki got a new hairstyle because i think she would be a bit more loose and silly as she starts going on more adventures.

her and vivia actually have two birthdays between the time i headcanon raincode to take place (march 2XXX) and the fic (july 2XXX+1). so while yuma is 19 in mdarc and 20 in usf, fubuki is 21 in mdarc and 23 in usf (and vivia is 25-27)

i'm actually scared of needles so halara's earrings get a redesign. they get new ones in the upcoming chapter as well.

their outfit might be mostly long sleeves, but the jacket is lightweight and breezy and the jeans have wide legs, so it's actually nice and cool.

just realized this outfit is primarily yellow with some red and blue acccents. i can't believe i reinvented sollux homestuck. i'm sorry halara baby i didn't mean to compare you to an ugly bitch like that (this is a joke i actually like sollux)

vivia's outfit is inspired by the stupid shit i would make in the sims before i discovered custom content. i feel like he'd be a sims girly.

your guess for why yuma got facial hair due to never shaving while vivia, who is infamously too executive-dysfunction-riddled to leave the fireplace much less shave, has the skin of a newborn baby is up to you to interpret. possible options include (un)fortunate genetics on either/both of them, he is trans and hasn't started/doesn't intend to start t, or he just pays halara to do it for him.

actually i do think he pays halara to help him out with things when the chronic fatigue/executive dysfunction gets too much to deal with. fubuki will do it for free but also she is kind of bad at being helpful as a result of being fubuki.

aaand time for the general headcanons section

every single one of these characters is some flavor of neurodivergent. halara and kurumi are autistic, desuhiko has adhd, and yuma, makoto, fubuki, and vivia have both. i'm sure some of them also have other neurodivergencies but those are the two i'm most familiar with so those are the two that worm their way into my headcanons.

not a single one of these characters doesn't have ptsd. like i'm sorry but you cannot live through chapters 4 and 5 of rain code and not be mentally ill afterwards. most of em also have a few other mental illnesses because i love projecting on fictional characters <3

vivia's also got some sort of chronic physical illness (my personal headcanon is pots), and makoto sometimes uses a cane. yuma should sometimes use a cane but he has the bodily awareness of a fucking peanut and thinks it hurts everyone to walk.

yuma's gonna realize he's any pronouns nonbinary someday, but that won't be for a hot minute. makoto is the same, but he's a lot closer to that realization than yuma is. both are also bi, as is kurumi.

desuhiko is the resident kodakaverse problematic bicon. there's always one of em!

fubuki is a lesbian. "oh but she confesses to yuma in her final gumshoe gab!" well as i said before yuma isn't a man. it's a bit confusing to her because she doesn't know that yet but turns out she's just got that Sense where she can tell that yuma isn't exactly cis.

halara is nonbinary (obviously, that's basically canon) and pan

vivia is somewhere on the aroace spectrum (both out of general lack of interest and because sex and romance are physically/mentally straining) but he's generally gay-aligned.

It's interesting how 'I tought myself how to draw using youtube videos' has created a pretty distinctive style. I don't mean that everyone who was self taught trough the internet draws exactly the same don't get me wrong. But I was walking on the art market trying to see as much as I could of the 85 artists, and from the ones I can pick out as online artists (and they're are of course plenty I must have passed where I didn't have a clue) there were some recognisable elements from a distance that made me go "Ah yes, an artist from the school of the internet"

It's something in the colorscheme people use, and also the general outline of characters. It's like you can recognise the animators for Calarts versus other animators. Because it's not a "lol digital artists can only draw one way" because I can also spot people who got their illustration degree at my uni bc their head teacher had a specific way of filling the entire page that they also adapted.

So yeah, it's not bad, everyone has their influence. I'd just say two things about it which is one, don't draw like that if you think you have too, by which I mean never even open one of those "You're drawing shadows wrong" clickbait videos on youtube. There's no rule like that. But if you're drawing the way you like and that feels natural then you're on the right track! (art uni has bad art teachers you just ignore and the internet does too, but online you don't even have to pretend to listen to get a passing grade, huray!)

Second think I would say, when I was talking about the illustration department at my uni: at one point there was a collective show of everyone who graduated in that department, and I could not see where one artist ended and the others began. In this case it was bc the teacher had gotten too strict (I also had a class with her and hooh boy I ended up making up a parody of her style bc she hated everything and she liked that 💀) There was however one student who had put embroidery trough her paper. I remember that. She's the only one I can distinctly remember bc she had a thing. So if you're drawing in a popular style, try to find your niche. Something you love drawing more, a color you really love.

Saying 'you need to have your own style' can be debillitating to an artist bc there is no unique style to find, you're always a collage of everything you love. But it is good to think, if my work hangs in a line with others, how would my friends pick it out. They're usually better at that too, my loved ones can pick out work of me even if I think it's in a wildly different style. I call it a fingerprint, and it's usually there before you know.

But just, get weird with it. Print out your drawing and put stiches in it like that girl did and scan it in again. Draw upside down. Draw everything in greytones and then add color. Draw some classic painting in a widly different style. Make 5 second sketches of people walking by. It's not the style you use that makes you a better or 'legitimate' artist, but the ways you fuck around. There's nothing wrong with drawing chibi art, but draw it in charcoal sometimes. Or on an elaborate oil painting. Or hell do watch those clickbait youtube video's but follow their advice oppposite and see what funky shit you end up with.

Hi! I used to read Dream*Scar back when you basically just started on it - and I followed it for a long time before I dropped off for some reason (maybe you had a hiatus? I'm forgetful so that would explain it). I've been thinking of picking it up and read it again cus I loved it so much! And now I just realised I follow you on here, by complete coincidence - I didn't know I had randomly followed the creator of my all-time favorite webcomic. I'll take that a sign from the universe to definitely check your old and new stuff out. Your artstyle influenced me quite a bit back then, and I'm curious to see how it has developed. 😭 this always makes my heart really big. i hope ur still drawing and developing ur style! i think my art has improved over time, but not really changed too much overall. i haven't really been gunning to improve, just drawing whatever i feel like in the moment... which lately has been almost exclusively chibis 😂

also hhhh 🥲 i feel bad about d*s. i've gotten a lot of DMs asking if it's dead or if I'll update it soon etc, and I've said in the past i still had plans for it, but tbh life has kinda reared up, and a lot of emotional things have gone on that make me hesitant to return to it. a big part of that is honestly the fantastic racism aspects. i've grown a lot in the last 10+ years and when i think about that aspect of the comic, i feel very uncomfortable with it. i don't feel like it's something i can or was handling well, esp after the George Floyd incident, which obviously was not the first incident, but in the fallout, there was a big surge of amazing activists sharing their stories, and it exposed my naive white ass to exactly how bad systematic racism is. i feel like the handling of it in d*s is an afterthought, like the fact that it's not the main focus, it's just there... something about that sits wrong with me, and i don't feel like i can really portray it the same after gaining more understanding about it... if that makes sense.

like that ☝️ being the main reason, but also a lot of personal stuff going on in my life has made me distance myself a bit from the characters. i miss them, but interacting with them now is kind of painful. like i still draw them from time to time but the whole thing is sort of tangled with something really unpleasant now and it just makes it hard to feel the same way about it. it's complicated and depressing tbh 🥲

my chibi style is kinda funny actually bc it's not. super consistent? (not that my normal style has stayed the same but y'know)

the main parts are there, but i kinda just add and subtract things as they appeal to me. recently the chibi style has gotten a tiny bit more realistic, i give them more normal shoes and slightly less flat side profiles!

i think the key though is that i do what most people do with chibi art—simplify the shapes, make the heads bigger and rounder relative to the shorter bodies, and keep the proportions on the cuter/less serious side. it's great for quick sketches when you can't be bothered to fully figure out proportions!

also they don't get noses unless it's a side profile. no idea why i decided that. *shrug*

another complaint I have about feh’s laziness is my most capitalist opinion to date, though it includes fe as a whole: the lack of promotion and extra materials. I’m not one to buy merch just because it exists, and a lot of merch itself is incredibly superfluous waste, but it’s extremely weird that Nintendo’s biggest mobile title (61% of its profits in the mobile market and over 1 billion usd as of February) gets…nothing. No figurines, no plush toys, no dioramas, no manga (the yonkoma are just shorts), no marketing outside of its twitter account, not even those dinky little character cafés even the most short-lived seasonal anime get.

so far only a few characters have figurines (Lucina, edelgard, corrin, byleth, mrobin, caeda, Cordelia, tiki, alm, celica, tharja, Lyn, ike, dimitri, chrom, felix, bernie, Lilina, sakura, camilla, Veronica, Elise, Claude, Lysithea, marth), and plushies (ike, marth, Roy, 3h lords except yuri, the byleths, sothis, lucina, and fcorrin). Of these, alm, tiki, celica, mrobin, and mcorrin only exist as amiibo because of smash; sakura, caeda, and elise only have nendoroids; all three main 3h lords have pop-up parade figurines plus felix, Lysithea, and Bernadetta, but edelgard has a figma as well; fcorrin and lucina both have amiibos and figmas, but fcorrin has a scale figure along with marth, ike, lyn, lilina, Roy, fbyleth, tharja, camilla, and Veronica. Chrom has both amiibo and nendoroid.

you’d think this is a respectable amount of character rep to buy, except these all came at an extremely slow pace, often releasing at the tail end of their games’ cycles; I’m not a marketing expert, but I am a fan, and I distinctly remember the numerous complaints this has gotten (and still gets!) over the years. There is interest—so where’re the goods? Ironically enough, intsys made more content for the earlier games, including manga (jugdral got at least 4) and novelisations, small board figurines, and even an ova for archanea. It’s understandable that by the time of the tellius games, only artbooks were made due to poor sales, but you’d think that the success of awakening saving the series and fates making them even more money would mean more content. But so far, it’s just been those few figurines plus collected yonkoma. The plushies and scale figures weren’t even made until much, much later. Hell, kozaki had to release the fates art book himself without help from intsys, and corrin’s scale figure was only announced this year.

even houses, the series’ biggest hit to date, only started out with crap cardboard cutouts of the characters’ sprites plus the dining hall and plastic pouches. its bigger merch came later as well, including a certain tea set that is not only quite expensive, but made many fans angry due its release date (nopes). Engage seems to be a little more confident, having stickers, a notebook, keychains, switch icons, konpeito, and a metal tumbler, but it’s still very little compared to what other series have.

in-game, feh is also surprisingly subdued. No splashy animated seasonal banner announcements, little original music, few shorts, no streaming collabs, no tie-ins. The book openings get gorgeous animation from anima inc but no cutscenes are found in the game except visual novel-style text, and, again, it was only until much recently that we’ve seen some other animation in the form of like, five chibi shorts and four regular shorts (one of which got heavily mocked because it’s basically fjorm’s disney princess love song moment for the self insert protagonist). Banner announcements are just jpegs showcased next to gameplay plus a few voiced lines from the vas.

when you get to other games though? You’re not starved for content at all: stuffed toys, miniature figurines, large scale figures, acrylic standees, notebooks, keychains, stickers, patches, tableware, glassware, yonkoma AND full manga and novelisations AND light novels, food, fashion, pillows, cosmetics, chara cafés and anime; they all have streamed announcements, animated cutscenes or fully rendered illustrative cgs with voice work, silly promotional videos on youtube, cast interviews, and collaborations with other games. Like, you could not even pay me to touch waifu trash like nikke or azur lane or blue archive, but they at least bother to promote themselves, for better or worse, and regularly do cross promos with other brands like nier, monster hunter, evangelion, and even sanrio.

Even tears of themis, which is extremely niche even within mihoyo’s ecosystem, has had character cafés, accessories, and crazy stuff that no one wants like a credit card!

I’m certainly not the first to ask, but is intsys allergic to making money? So incredibly short-staffed that their only resources are for game dev and a smattering of in-game animation? Stuck to nintendo’s teat? Purely lazy? Why does 70% of merch come from fans to the point where even fanart is the preferred type of autograph material for the english vas? I’m not sure i or anyone else will get the answers to these questions, but is it really so much to ask for a real sleepytime byleth plushie to hold and squeeze instead of lyn’s eighteenth alt?

Could we have a brief tutorial on how you manage your simple pencil-like style, if you don't mind? I have no intentions of copying your work, but I would love tips on making quick but still neat and cute drawings.

// Sure thing! I'm not out here keeping any secrets lmao. The brush I use is the real pencil on CSP, but the derwent pencil on procreate is similar. also I use an iPad and apple pencil, i found they made it a bit quicker but obviously an investment that isn't necessary. Though if you have one, one way to speed up is that if you tap the side of the pencil twice it switches to the eraser.

here are the general settings i use. when I sketch, the brush size is 50, and when i line the brush size is 30 - also I put the stabilisation up to 100% for lines. obvi use multitude of different brush sizes for colouring.

I sketch with any random mid tone and start like this, then fill out the torso

Sketching is always fairly messy. Point is to not give a shit about what it looks like, just get the vibe down.

After torso I throw on the limbs. Usually i sketch out where the ribcage is too if I'm putting detail on the chest. Then I throw on details like the face and clothes

I'll then put down the transparency of the sketch layer and on a new layer throw on the line art. brush size 30, and 100% stabilisation. I have just realised the hands are two different sizes. this happens often because of how quick i try throw together things like this.

As for colouring, blushies go here, and usually i over colour with a large brush and erase around it. For bigger pieces I do a thicker line around the outside of the figure, select the space around it, invert selection, grow selection by 10px, fill in with white, and then use a clipping mask or transparency lock, then you don't have to erase around it. I stick to as few colours as possible and i rarely colour skin unless the character has dark skin cus if I don't it looks strange i've found lol. I use pastels as well, like if i'm colouring in black I colour it grey instead.

AND WE'RE DONE!

Drawings for this blog depending on complexity usually take me anywhere from 20mins to an hour. I'm not fussed about perfection cus I just wanna get them done to answer or doodle my thoughts. Since I started this blog I've gotten way quicker at drawing just cus i was drawing so much when I first started, I was able to adapt the style. I used to do it with like longer faces but somehow it evolved into something more chibi like. I also went through a massive style overhaul when I first started I used to draw something very detailed that took me multiple days, but now I have the simpler style I adapted from doing this which is faster. as you see from my commissions I still have the detailed style, a simple style, and the chibi style which is what I use for the blog.

TLDR; 1 sketch layer, use loose, quick lines. Don't stay stuck on details and perfection, the more you draw the more shortcuts you'll find.

THREE YOUTUBE VIDEOS I AM LOOKING FOR HELP ME FIND THEM

There are three (unrelated) youtube videos that I've been looking for for many, many years. I have applied the fullest extend of my search engine knowledge to locate these videos and have not been able to do so. If you know of any of these videos or could help me find them, please let me know.

The first video I'm looking for is actually a series, a Minecraft let's play uploaded probably around 2010 or 2011. All I remember is that the uploader had "23" in their username, and at one point in the series planted "twenty trees" outside of their Minecraft house in reference to this fact. I may have gotten some detail wrong, but that's the gist of it—I remember very clearly the phrase "twenty trees" spoken in the uploader's British accent and their repeated reference to it. This would have also been one of the earlier Minecraft let's plays on youtube; IIRC it was obscure enough at this point that the user has to explain the basic gameplay of Minecraft in the first episode, as the audience can't be expected to know.

The second video I'm looking for was also uploaded around 2010 or so (give or take a few years), by a guy talking about studying Latin and Ancient Greek. The guy had several videos about this topic on his channel, and the details I remember are as follows. In one video, he states that he learned Ancient Greek because he read a bad translation of the Iliad or the Odyssey (can't remember which; could have been another Greek or Latin epic maybe) and upon learning how wrong the translator had gotten things, vowed to never read another book in translation again. In another video, he talks about how much his Latin was improved by reading though Lingua Latina by Hans Ørberg, and how it did more for him than any traditional Latin textbook. In another video, he responded to angry comments that had been accusing him of pronouncing Latin wrong because he dropped the 't' in the word 'Latin' when speaking English; he clarified that he never dropped the 't' when speaking Latin itself and that this was just a feature of his particular English dialect. The videos were recorded in an amateurish style in this guy's house, with little editing and not especially good camera or audio equipment. As far as I can remember it wasn't like, grainy or anything, just typical of the era in being essentially very low production quality. Basically just this guy standing in front of a wall in his house talking about language learning. He may also have been studying Sanskrit, idk. I think I initially found him by googling "book like Lingua Latina for Sanskrit" or something to that effect; no such book really exists but he may have had a video discussing the topic? But don't quote me on that, it might be an inaccurate memory.

Ok, the last video I'm looking for is a specific remix of one of the songs from the anime film Your Name, uploaded in 2017 or 2018. This is the most likely of the three to actually have been taken down imo, for copyright reasons. I can't remember which song it was a remix of, maybe Zenzenzense or Nandemonaiya. I think I found it initially in one of youtube's auto-generated playlists after listening to a bunch of the music from that movie. I don't know enough about music theory or whatever to actually describe what the remix was like, but I know that the video had a background image that was fanart of the two main characters looking up at the sky, in which (I think) the comet from the movie was visible. The characters where relatively small and the view of the sky was quite large. I think the fanart was in a slightly more cutesy style than the actual art of the movie, although not to the degree of being chibi or anything.

If any of you happen to know of any of these videos, please let me know! I have been searching and searching!

I haven’t played much of CotC, but I didn’t know that Vanessa had a sister?

It's more of mine and my brother's headcanon than anything, but it does have some evidence to support it. I am thankful you asked because I've never actually shared my thoughts on this headcanon in detail!

So basically, I am pretty sure that Vanessa's sister is Shelby, an apothecary from the initial 64 Travelers.

Most notable things when looking at Shelby. - Purple everywhere. - Apron and corset combo. - Short, hooded cape. - Dark gray-black skirt/dress with a design around the rim of the outfit. - Brown boots and a brown apothecary satchel. - Purple-black hair.

Now let's look at Vanessa.

- Purple everywhere. - Apron and corset combo. - Short, hooded cape. - Gray skirt/dress with a design around the rim of the outfit. - Brown boots and a brown apothecary satchel. - Purple-black hair.

They share a lot of similar things to their designs. Now this could just be a coincidence, but who really knows. It's a pretty uncanny similarity.

Let's take a look at their sprites now!

The design is similar with their hair colours being slightly lighter than their artworks and its dark hair colour. The apron suddenly both has a purple stripe on it (Vanessa's concept already had this, but Shelby's art doesn't.)

Another thing that I find a bit curious, is the fact that Shelby has brown eyes, and originally so did Vanessa. Her boss sprite is shown with gray-brown eyes, as well as her artbook chibi.

So either Shelby's design was based around Vanessa for no reason at all, or this was intentional.

For context, Champions of the Continent (2017) was being developed at around the same times as the first Octopath Traveler (2016). There is also art book evidence that CotC's plot may have been the original game's idea, but they decided to go smaller to play it safe for a first game.

Next, I want to share brief name meanings. Both Shelby and Vanessa are English orientated names, and they are also very beautiful meanings as well as based around nature. Shelby means 'place where willows grow'. Vanessa means 'of Venus' or 'butterfly'. I could go into more detail with both, like willow trees spiritual meanings (which fit Shelby pretty well when I searched it up) and the best place to grow is near the water, an explanation to Shelby's ice magic. And Vanessa is related to butterflies, which could give her light magic. But that's beside the point.

Beauty plays a pretty big factor in both characters as well. It is obviously there for Vanessa in her appearance, but for Shelby, we are told that she's very attractive and men fall for her easily. That said, personalities are purely opposite as well. Vanessa's confident in herself, a bit vain, etc. and Shelby is very different. She's not the most confident, very shy, etc. I always found a fondness for opposite siblings, I am sure others do too!

Also did I mention both of these characters have/will have Wealth influences? Shelby has basically zero reason to be Wealth, she should probably be Fame, but she's not, and maybe it's because Vanessa when she's playable will eventually be Wealth too!

With those aspects aside now, let's talk about descriptions and family life! The more proper way to help connect these two ladies aside from just appearance.

First, character description.. We recently got Shelby's Radio Show information, so this allows me to share a little more. We'll start with Shelby.

Radio show doesn't give too much, but the main thing to think about is age and her appreciation to "happy homes", I'll get to that soon. It's also important to mention that they didn't deconfirm her having siblings or not having them. Other characters have gotten family mention more proper from the shows. (Example: Sofia is the oldest sister, with three little sisters!)

Now Vanessa's description!

Vanessa's description also says that she "leaves her criminal life behind" but she is obviously still an apothecary, and is a skilled one too, she sells her medicine at a high price still, but not because she's after wealth, but because her medicines are good and are worth the price. So anyone saying she's a "fake apothecary", this is incorrect. She's skilled at her craft. Apothecaries can create good or bad medicine, as told in Gertrude's Traveler Story, and others.

And now that you've seen their descriptions with ages. Shelby is the older sister. Shelby's "mid 20s" listed is in favour of CotC's 3 years in the past. Shelby is ~28 and Vanessa is 26, giving them a ~2 year age difference.

Let's pretend for a moment, that not only her encounter with Alfyn, but perhaps her older sister Shelby had also helped support her sister's change of heart. Family support is exactly what Vanessa might need to get on a better path. That's exactly what our "happy home" loving Shelby would want for her family. Shelby would 100% help her sister, by getting her a job at the LeRuiz in Valore. It's run by Rosso, like Shelby, a member of the Bargello Family! Even though I play as Iris, Shelby is my canon Chosen One.

These descriptions imply that both are quite skilled apothecaries even if Shelby hardcore downplays her skills in favour of not being "better than Cooper" *cries* Could their skills come from the parent that Vanessa's description mentions?

That said, Shelby's Traveler Story also brings up family mentions.

It might not seem like much, but if Shelby's mother gives herbs out for her husband's birthday, it implies that one or both of these people are apothecaries as well. More people would say they give flowers out on birthdays, not specifically herbs.

So basically, it's possible that the two are sisters, and their parents are apothecaries. It's common for children of specific jobs in this timeframe and game to learn the same field of work as relatives.

Another thing, that I want to get to before ending this, Vanessa's description that a parent is a "famous apothecary" and Shelby's Traveler Story mentions Ogen as one of the best apothecaries she knows. It's possible that if it's true that Shelby and Vanessa are related, that this famous apothecary parent and Ogen are friends, or at least acquainted.

Part of the interesting thing about the Ogen mention, it's almost as if the writers wanted their players to remember Alfyn, thus by remembering Alfyn, you might remember Vanessa, and then you just kinda think, "wow, Vanessa and Shelby look similar!"

That being said, Ogen isn't playable yet, so we've never had canon interaction with Shelby and Ogen, just apparently that the two know each other. Shelby actually rarely gets Recollections despite being a popular 4-Star, so she's never had much to disconfirm anything. Maybe when Vanessa is playable, she'll be able to interact with Shelby? This is very possible since they had Leon Bastralle's quote said by Lord Elletrix of Grandport, and then later Leon appears in Elletrix's Traveler Memory, plus one of Elletrix's subordinates being jealous of Leon's friendship with Elletrix. All this proves that the two were friends. Rosa, stop talking about your OTP Long story short, first game characters are 100% allowed to interact with characters from CotC, so long as the writers want to do something with it. It's possible they could one day allow Shelby to talk to both Vanessa and Ogen.

Okay, that should be all...? Anyway, to reiterate, this is just a headcanon of mine, it is not canon in anyway. Take it as you will or not at all! It's no bother if you don't want to imagine them as sisters, but that's what I want to do until it's proven otherwise.

I've headcanoned these two as sisters since basically the first moment I met Shelby! And that was in 2019.

MK - :The Moon Knight System: Procreate on iPad Pro

AHHHH GUYS I loved Moon Knight so much, you guys have NO idea how many times I’ve rewatched it. It’s been SO long since I’ve been so inspired to do art on the regular. I have so many more scene-redraws I have prepped, but I just have been SO busy this past week. Sadly I haven’t gotten any of them done, just a bunch of backgrounds started.

Among scene-repaints, I also have been DYING to draw the MK System – Jake, Marc, and Steven – in my chibi style, because, damnit they three of them give me so many feels in various ways, even though I only know Marc and Steven. I so badly wanted to draw Jake too, though, so I based his look roughly on his confirmed 30 seconds on-screen (even though I think he’s been on screen quite a few times, I just really like his little tie and hat, okay?).

I really love drawing in my chibi style, I just don’t do it much these days. I’m much better at it, should do more (spoilers – I did LOL). I don’t know the official name of their System (for all I know it’s the Spector System), but until we get told otherwise, I’ll keep it as the MK System, because I like calling them the Moon Boys lol.

Jake is my fave in this one, but Steven is the cutest, LOL. Done on purpose, because he’s my fave character on the show. He’s so precious and understanding and protective of Marc’s emotional well-being and he always has sweater paws, and I just *SQUEEEEEE* I love Marc and Steven’s relationship development in the series SO much and how seamless they learn to become by the series’ end. I look forward to them integrating Jake into their lives <3

I can’t wait until these guys come back... I hope we’ll get to see them interact again in any sense (mind space with their own bodies or their fluid co-fronting in the host body), and I am SO looking forward to learning more about Jake and who he is as a person. I already headcanon him as stupidly protective of Marc and Steven and loves them fiercely, and who was unfortunately naïve enough to believe Khonshu only wanted the best for the entire system.

Anyway, I hope you guys like this one <3 I have another one coming with Layla because I need her to love all of them and be protective of all of them and because I love her so much, heh.
