Tips from an autistic teacher about communicating with education professionals
So, some context: I taught Primary for 1 year, and had lots of interactions with parents with all kinds of concerns about their kids. I also remember being in high school and college/university and being too nervous to approach my teachers/tutors with any problems I had until the situation was dire.
For those who don't work in education, I can appreciate how needing to speak to your child's teacher about something can be intimidating, especially if your and/or your child are neurodivergent. And if you are a student, it can be equally as scary.
It's true many teachers are overworked and underpaid, but the vast VAST majority would move heaven and earth to help you. However, there are lots of things you can do to help them to help you, so here are my top tips.
Tell them ASAP if there is a problem - alerting the teacher to a problem or concern as soon as it arises gives them the chance to nip it in the bud before it becomes a big deal. If there is a bullying concern or something you don't understand, they would much rather you told them straight away so they can do something about it than have you or your child suffering in silence for weeks or months. We are generally an observant bunch and are looking out for issues, but some things do fly under the radar. Even if it's not something they can do anything about straight away - like if you think your child is showing signs of autism or adhd but they mask heavily at school - they can bear this in mind and pass it onto other relevant members of staff so it is 'flagged' up for the future.
If your issue is complicated, be sure to put it in writing - chances are you have access to a messaging service or at least an email address. Even if you have raised your concern with the teacher face to face, having it in writing is helpful for both parties. It provides a record that the issue has been raised and passed along as appropriate, and it helps remind the teacher about what has been discussed so they don't end up forgetting about it among the million other things they have to do.
Be specific - it may seem obvious, but there is no point in having a casual chat and then throwing in a bombshell at the end. Make sure to give as much relevant detail as you can about what your issue is, and if you want to raise multiple concerns then it is doubly beneficial to put them in writing.
Think about what your desired outcome is and come with a proposed solution - this is a psychological thing, apparently, but people are more likely to be sympathetic to your concerns if you can demonstrate you have thought about how you would like it resolved. If you want your child put forward for an autism assessment, make sure you actually say this. If you know you are going to be late handing in an assignment but can give your teacher an alternative date you will hand it in, tell them this. I can't guarantee they will always be able to fulfil it, but knowing what you would like to change or happen makes it much easier to sort things out rather than just guessing.
IF THERE'S SOMETHING GOING ON OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL THAT'S HAVING A NEGATIVE IMPACT, TELL THEM!!! - I CANNOT stress this enough, especially when it comes to little ones or neurodivergent children who may have limited means of both communication and emotional regulation. Being hungry, tired, stressed etc can have an enormous impact on behaviour/ability to learn. Even a simple message or email giving the heads up your child has had a poor night's sleep because the house flooded or whatever and might be a bit grumpy that day can be a huge help to the teacher, who as a result of having this information will be in a better position to be patient with a child who is struggling. For bigger life changes such as divorce, birth of a new sibling etc, this is even more important so that your child's teacher and the school can, if necessary, put measures in place to support your child through this transition. Communication really is key.
Remember to be kind and considerate - teachers are humans and make mistakes like everyone else. Equally, there are many circumstances they have to deal with that are totally out of their control and frustrate them just as much as they do you. As I said at the beginning, the vast majority want to help you and/or your child in any way they can, and being kind can make what is a very stressful job just that little bit less.
So, there you have it! I hope these tips gave you an idea for how to communicate with teachers effectively.
Oh, here's 1 more bonus tip - if you have anything to ask that is more than just a quick question, be sure to schedule a meeting with the teacher to ensure they can devote enough time to deal with your issue. Catching them at the beginning or end of the school day generally isn't a good idea as they're very chaotic times and they likely have other meetings/appointments/deadlines they will be thinking about.
Your support is much appreciated xx

➺ 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐋𝐘𝐍'𝐒 𝐏𝐎𝐕 ;
Ever since I was a little girl, the world had always been full of monsters, ghouls and demonic creatures that went bump in the night. These were the kind of monsters that wouldn’t vanish into thin air as soon as I’d turn on my night light, these were the kind of monsters people would tell ghost stories about around the campfire to scare the living hell out of each other.
To the outside world, it was nothing but folklore, fairytales… but to me, they were part of my every day life.
It’s safe to say that I never had a normal childhood.
With my father being the Chairman of the Vampire Hunters Association of Las Vegas, I had been training to become the murder weapon I am today since the age of six. I don’t know anything else other than this─never set foot inside of a public school, never been to one of those college ragers that one would see in the movies. But even though my parents always shielded me from the outside world, it wasn’t like I was completely disconnected.
I live in a normal apartment in the city, hang out with my handful of friends now and then, and have to make those dreadful trips to the supermarket once a week like any other human being. The only difference between me and a normal twenty five year old was the floor to ceiling weapon covered walls that were hidden behind the clothing in my small walk-in wardrobe.
I am content with my life as much as one can be and even if I wasn’t, it’s not like I have much choice. My whole future has been laid out for me since I was brought into this world.
To follow in my fathers’ footsteps- that is my faith, my destiny.
Tumblr media
Las Vegas was the perfect place for a vampire to settle down.
The city drew in a lot of tourists from both in and out of the country who were often very naive and looking for some kind of adventure to escape their dull lives back at home, making them easy and quick targets for anyone with a craving for blood. Any vampire that came to the city knew about the VHA Headquarters being located just on the edge of the city and the amount of hunters that could pop up around any corner, but one could simply say they did not care.
Vampires had always viewed themselves as the superior species, considering their kind to be on top of the food chain─they liked to be feared, both by human beings and other supernatural creatures that roamed the Earth. Las Vegas was pretty much a never ending buffet for them and they weren’t going to let anyone, especially not hunters, drive them away.
The vampires in the city were reckless and careless and while they usually did not care about being exposed, I did.
I cared about the unsuspecting humans they would so savagely suck dry and as a hunter, I felt it was my duty to protect the people.
And a damn good hunter I was. One of the best in the company due to the many years of being in this line of work and I felt, perhaps arrogantly so, I’d seen it all.
But when my father called me up into his office and gave me my next assignment, I couldn’t help but stare at him as if he had grown an extra head.
On my way to his office, I already figured it must’ve been someone of importance or an ancient one, but never in a million years had I expected this.
A politician with newfound blood cravings? Sure. Casino owners who already had one foot in their graves by mingling with the mafia? Wouldn’t be the first. But Elvis fucking Presley? Definitely not.
‘’F-father-‘’ I started as I looked up from the folder with information in my hand, but I was cut off before I could even get a proper word out by my father who held up his hand and got up from his seat behind his desk.
‘’Elvis Presley is one of the old ones, Evie. Not ancient, but old nonetheless. Approximately 200 years old, maybe even older, feeds on humans daily,’’ he informed me, using the nickname I despised, as he rolled up the sleeves of his shirt, showing off some scars that decorated his skin.
Battle scars, as he called them.
Christian Harper was at one time the country’s best hunter. He’d kill any monster in sight and while there had been a few missteps in his career, he never failed. Many vampires are now rotting away in hell with the help of my father’s hand.
Nowadays, the older vampires knew not to mess with him and the young ones feared him like humans feared the creatures of the night. Ironic, really.
Christian Harper was a force to be reckoned with, but he was getting older, stopped going out in the field a long time ago, and right now I was wishing I was in his position. There weren’t many moments I wished such a thing, because I knew how much he had gone through in his life, but right now in this very second, I’d kill to be in his shoes.
I watched as he sat down on the edge of his desk in front of me, crossing his arms. ‘’He has recently started his residency at The International and he hasn’t been sitting still,’’ he sighed as he nodded to the folder in my hand.
I looked down at it again and turned the page.
The pictures of dead bodies covered in blood and bite marks didn’t phase me since I was trained not to and it hadn’t been the first time in my life I’ve seen bodies molested in such a manner, but it still made me angry. It didn’t matter who the predator was that had done such a cruel, inhumane thing.
Most of the people in the pictures were young girls, in their beginning or mid twenties, dressed in skimpy dresses. These were girls that had been brutally murdered outside of the hotel ever since Elvis’ arrival in Las Vegas, and I did not even want to think what he did to them behind closed doors.
Vampires were predators. They liked to toy with their prey before they struck and made the kill.
‘’He’s not alone. A person like Presley doesn’t wander around on his own, especially not in a city like this, so the chance that The International is swarmed with vampires right now is very big,’’ my father said as I closed the folder, sighing deeply as I sunk back in my seat, throwing my head back.
I wasn’t surprised Elvis Presley was a vampire, no one is ever who you truly think they are, nor was I doubting my skills when it came to taking him out, old or not, but I knew the world would probably stop turning when this man would die. He was world famous with a very protective fanbase that would go through fire for him.
They had no idea that he was a cold blooded murderer with questionable table manners─they saw him as the pioneer in the music industry, a good person, their King.
Once his fans and whatever supernatural ally he worked with would find out the VHA killed him, I was going to have to be a lot more careful in my daily life. An old, powerful vampire like him was never alone. They always had back up plans, other species that he probably formed alliances with because unfortunately for human kind, vampires weren’t the only monsters that crawled the face of the Earth.
I didn’t feel good about this assignment, and I was about to protest and even decline, until my father spoke up again.
‘’Get your team together, Evie. I know you’re capable of succeeding,’’ Christian smiled at me as I looked at him again with worried eyes, but I kept my mouth shut, unable to tell him that this was one of the few assignments I did not want to do.
‘’I want you to do this one with Eli and Ruby. Proof to me that you’re ready to move your way up,’’ he said as he nodded to his big leather chair on the other side of the desk. The spot that I’d be taking, the spot that I wasn’t so sure about anymore. I loved my father and the company. I had accepted what my life was like a long time ago, or at least I thought I did, but sometimes I couldn’t help but feel like there were parts of my life missing. Not only because I had been spending every minute of my every day training myself and new hunters or slaying vampires.
It was a weird feeling I couldn’t quite put my finger on─as if I was partly living a life that wasn’t mine.
Something was missing, I was sure of it, but no matter how long I’d think about it, I couldn’t wrap my head around it.
‘’Fine,’’ I eventually mumbled, getting up from my seat as I put the folder under my arm. ‘’When do I start?’’
‘’Tonight,’’
‘’Tonight?!’’ I exclaimed in disbelief as I widened my eyes at him.
My father smiled, nodding as he stood up straight. ‘’People’s lives are at stake here, sweetheart. Don’t take too long with this one,’’
I sighed deeply through my nose, nodding as I swung open the door, frowning as I heard two people shuffle backwards. Closing the door of my fathers’ office, I looked at Eli and Ruby, the two people I considered my closest friends in the company, standing there with innocent smiles as if they hadn’t eavesdropped the whole conversation.
‘’This is gonna be goooood!’’ Eli exclaimed in a sing-song voice as he rubbed his hands together, grinning from ear to ear. ‘’I’ve always wanted to meet Elvis Presley and staking him would look so good on my resume,’’
I chuckled softly as I rolled my eyes, patting the blonde male’s shoulder. I started walking down the hall, opening the folder again as they appeared on my side, looking over my shoulder.
‘’He’s quite beautiful for a vampire,’’ Ruby mumbled, ignoring the disgusting look Eli gave her.
The picture of the vampire that was hanging by a paperclip on the first page of the folder was of him walking backstage at the newly opened International Hotel, dressed in a chocolate brown suit. He wore the brightest smile I’d ever seen on a man, his blue eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief. As if he was in on something no one around him was- and that was probably the truth.
He had a certain aura around him, one that almost made you believe he was nothing but a handsome man with a charming smile and a great voice. And it was also an aura that felt familiar in a sense that I couldn’t quite put my finger on.
Looking into those eyes even in a photograph made a shiver run down my spine, which I managed to hide from the two hunters next to me.
Elvis Presley didn’t look like a bloodsucker, but then again, they never did.
Vampires had the ability to walk among men, blending in crowds with their daylight rings and their great fashion sense. They looked like any other person on the street, hiding their demonic faces behind human masks.
And he was no different, he couldn’t be. Just like the others, he was nothing but a cruel demon hiding behind humanity.
‘’Aren’t they always?’’ I sighed as I shut the folder swiftly while walking into one of the weaponry rooms, flicking on the lights. I threw the folder down and tied my hair up, picking up a few pointy stakes from the holders in the wall.
‘’You’re not looking forward to this one, are you?’’ Ruby asked as she walked closer, leaving Eli behind by one of the tables to look through Elvis’ information.
I looked at my best friend and chuckled softly, throwing the stakes into a sports bag before I put my hands on my hips.
‘’I’m not, no. I’m not worried about him, but about the aftermath. This man is practically a God in people’s eyes,’’ I sighed as I shook my head a little, turning my head to stare absentmindedly at the weapons on the wall. ‘’What if this means the end of the VHA? We will probably become the hunted by the people we are trying to protect,’’
‘’Hey, ofcourse not, Eve,’’ Ruby said as she took a step closer to me, wrapping an arm around my shoulder. ‘’The humans will never find out the cause of his death, I’m sure his management is smarter than to risk exposing themselves or us. And whatever other monster he has standing up for him, we can take them on. I am absolutely positive about this and you know I’m always right,’’ she grinned as she bumped her hip against mine, making me bite my lip to hold back a smile.
I knew she was right─the company would survive this, but I had no idea if I would survive the company. My fathers’ words about having to proof myself were hanging above my head like a storm cloud for some reason, but I was still a hunter and a hotel full of people were at risk, so I was going to get this job done no matter what.
I hoped, at least.
‘’Besides, aren’t you the girl who killed an ancient one once? You got this,’’
I laughed softly at her words and the way she squeezed me in her embrace.
The ancient ones were hard to kill, seeing they had lived for quite literally thousands of years. I had succeeded in killing one of them when they tried to cause chaos in the city and while I had been out of work for two weeks after that because my body simply gave up on me and I wasn’t so lucky to heal rapidly like vampires did, the fucker was still dead so I was sure this was going to be a walk in the park.
‘’You’re right. I got this, we got this,’’ I said as I broke myself free out of Ruby’s grip, laughing as I walked back over to Eli to get him away from the folder and to the walls with weaponry to get ready.
Elvis Presley wasn’t an ancient vampire, but he would soon proof to be harder to kill than I anticipated.

something sweet and full of care
ed/stede - ~4k - modern college au
i managed to finish something i started in january... who IS SHE?
college au stede is suffering and missing his boyfriend very much and really not having a good time at all <3 too bad ed's school is soo far away :(
Tumblr media
****
Stede Bonnet is… well, he’s not doing very well, honestly. The spring semester is just getting started in earnest, which means he’s got about a million assignments to complete and studying to get done. He's also coming down with the cold he always gets this time of year, and to top it all off, he’s missing Edward more than ever. It’s always ten times harder getting used to being apart again after being together through the entire three-week winter break, and Stede feels his absence so acutely he wants to cry.
Now, Stede is back on campus, back in his single room that feels like both a blessing (not sharing with strangers) and a curse (not having anyone to study and commiserate with), and missing Ed so much he thinks he might just let himself wallow in it for a bit. Crying sounds both necessary and entirely unavoidable at this point, what with the way his head is throbbing, his stomach is growling, and his laptop seems to glare at him with a particularly threatening energy.
Stede: I miss you :(
Ed: I miss you already is that pathetic
Ed: Okay, that was weird <3 i love you
Stede: Somehow this makes me miss you MORE
They would text each other the same thing at the same time, Stede thinks, sighing heavily and sinking onto his bed. He’s made the best of the small bed, covered it in the highest thread-count sheets he could find and covered it in an admittedly absurd amount of soft blankets and pillows, trying to make up for the absence of Ed, the softest thing he’ll ever find in his bed, really. His small creature comforts help for a minute, but as soon as he lays down, Stede knows he’s made a mistake. He’ll never get back up now, he’s too tired, his head pounding too hard for him to be of any use this evening. He stretches and groans, blinking up at his phone as another message from Ed comes through.
Ed: Me too, I have so much work to do I’m about to say fuck it and go to sleep
Stede: Ha. I’m in bed having the same thought. I wish you were here, though
Ed: Let’s see then
Stede: [img]
Ed: I always ask thinking it’ll help but it also makes it worse?? How is this possible? You look fucking exhausted, sweetheart
Stede’s eyes prick at the easy endearment, and he squeezes them shut to push away the tears he knows are coming. No one is even around to see him, there’s no reason he should feel so… ashamed about crying in his own room, but, well.
Stede: think I picked something up, a cold or something. My head’s killing me and my throat’s all scratchy :/
Ed: Poor Stede. Though I guess it’s that time of year… I could set my watch to it
Stede: Could not
Ed: Totally could. How do you know I haven’t?
Stede: Did you actually??
Ed: No 💜 I just know you
Ed seems set on inadvertently making Stede cry tonight.
Stede: That you do :(
Ed: Aw, hey, I miss you, I love you, I wish I could come cuddle you better. You should take tonight to relax and see how you feel in the morning. Don’t force yourself to stay up and study!!
Stede: 😇
Ed: You already said you’re in bed! Order takeout and stay there… doctor’s orders
Stede: Twist my arm
*
Takeout consists of hot and sour soup that tastes delicious but makes Stede’s nose run, fried rice he only pokes at, and a chicken thing he ordered by accident that Ed usually eats.
Stede dabs at his nose and takes a picture of his dinner and sends it to Ed, explains about the chicken, and manages a smile when Ed sends back a running emoji.
By the time he’s finished and the leftovers are stashed in his fridge, Stede feels marginally better. At least he’s eaten, which means he can take some cold medicine and hopefully knock himself out for the night.
Tomorrow’s another day.
Ed: goodnight 💜
Stede: goodnight 💙 I love you
Ed: love you more, no arguments 😇
*
When Stede wakes up the next morning, he knows immediately that today isn’t going to be any better than yesterday. In fact, if the immediate rush of sneezes is anything to go by, today is going to be infinitely worse.
“hhIH… hIHh’NDGt! hiH!…’NGDshH! Hh!” Stede manages to stifle two ticklish, insistent sneezes against the sleeve of the sweater as soon as he tugs it over his head, grimacing with the knowledge that this will hardly be the last time he does that today. At least it’s Friday, and there’s a long weekend, so he can sequester himself to his room if he has to.
He knows, deep down, that he’ll end up doing exactly that once he gets through the three classes he has today.
Ed: Good morning, love of my life
Stede: Bet you say that to everyone <3
Ed: Caught me, you’re one in a long, long list, Bonnet
Stede: Okay, I know it was my joke, but I regret it immediately
Ed: I love you the most. How are you feeling this morning?
Stede can’t text and make tea and walk to class and keep his nose in check all at once, so he pops his headphones in and calls Ed while he finishes getting ready. He’s downing a dose of liquid cold medicine when Ed picks up, and Stede’s heart swells a little when he hears the smile in his boyfriend’s voice.
“Good morning, darling,” Ed says in greeting.
Stede would love to return the sentiment, he really would, but his nose gets the better of him at the exact wrong moment, so what Ed actually gets in return is a flurry of damp sneezes, an entire fit of them all in a row.
“Hih! Iiiidshh! Heh’ushhh’ue! MmptshhH!” Stede has to set his phone down to blow his nose a few times, and is a little breathless by the time he picks it back up again.
“God, so sorry, that was gross,” Stede says immediately, but Ed is already making sympathetic sounds into the phone.
“God bless you! You’re not feeling any better, I take it,” Ed says. It’s not a question, and Stede just sighs again.
“N’dot quite,” he sniffles. “It’s going to be a…heh! Snf! long day.”
“Bless you?”
“Hdt’UdshhH! IIshhiiew!”
God, Stede really has to get a grip before class. His cheeks heat at even the idea of sniffling and sneezing through the lectures he has this morning, all back to back with hardly enough time to grab tea in between. He'd thought it was smart, when he’d registered, getting all of his end of the week classes out of the way at once, but now that he feels like this he’s having his doubts.
“Why don’t you just skip and email your professors? Not like you’ll use absences to skip class,” Ed says, voice gentle but teasing. “Too smart to slack off like the rest of us heathens.”
Stede smiles. That much is true, he rarely (fine, never) skipped class, but that’s more to do with the fact that he doesn’t have many people to skip class with than some outstanding academic record. Still, though, his Oceanography paper is due soon, and they were doing a peer review today that he didn’t want to miss. His paper is solid so far, but he could really use the feedback, though Stede already feels bad for the poor person assigned to swap with him.
He explains the situation to Ed, and notes that his throat already hurts, and he’d only been talking for a few minutes. He really is in for the longest day ever. Stede listens to Ed talk about his own busy day (class starting at noon, followed by a few hours of tutoring, and a warning that Stede might not hear from him for most of the day, but to please call or text him if he starts feeling really bad).
Stede makes himself a travel mug of tea while he listens, his throat feeling heavy and tight with emotion right along with the sore throat. Ed really is sweet.
“Still there?” Ed asks as Stede locks his door and sets off down the stairs and towards his first class of the day.
“Mm, yes, sorry! Just thinking…”
“Uh oh,” Ed smiles.
Stede laughs, then winces, because that hurts his throat, too, as it happens. “Maybe once things calm down and I don’t feel like I’m going to infect everyone in my path… I could come visit? I have some money saved, and…”
Ed’s quiet on the other end of the line. “That would be amazing,” he agrees after a beat. “But let’s cross that bridge when we get there, yeah? You focus on getting through today and feeling better for now, alright?”
Stede wants to cry. Deep down, of course he knows Ed wants to see him as badly as Stede does, knows that he’s just being protective, but still, that nagging voice at the back of his head, the one that never leaves him alone and hates to see Stede happy, pokes at him. What if Ed doesn’t want him around? His friends are more fun, cooler than Stede, and what if Ed doesn’t want Stede around them again?
No. Stede forces the thoughts from his mind as he huddles into the soft fabric of his coat, tugging his sleeves down over his gloved hands. Ed’s right. One thing at a time. Focus, Bonnet.
Stede repeats that to himself until he gets to his first class, sniffling as he takes his usual seat and sipping his travel mug of breakfast blend tea to keep himself from falling asleep in his chair.
*
Oceanography goes well enough, though his partner Lucius makes almost no effort to hide his grimaces every time Stede has to turn away to cough to sniffle or blow his nose. As if Stede himself prefers it this way, he thinks, miffed.
He gets the feedback he wanted, though, and despite his dazed, stuffy head, Stede manages to provide Lucius with some helpful direction, too, he hopes.
“Here, you look like you need these more than I do,” Lucius says at the end of class, holding a travel packet of tissues out with the tips of his fingers, as if even a brush of their fingers will ensure transfer of Stede’s cold.
God, maybe it would, Stede really does feel bad.
“Thanks, Lucius. Sorry about all this,” he says again.
Lucius has the decency to look sympathetic, even momentarily. “No problem,” he chirps. “Feel better. And maybe don’t leave the house this weekend. See you!”
With Lucius gone, Stede lets himself outside and proceeds to fall into the coughing fit he’d put off for the duration of his class. Best to get it out now before the next one starts. That’s the goal, anyway, though he knows, deep down that it will be impossible to keep all of his cold symptoms in check for another four hours.
Four hours. The idea of it is enough to make him want to turn right around and head back to his room. It feels like a marathon. He really can afford to miss the classes… but…
But he’s stubborn. Stede can almost hear Ed telling him as much over the phone, and smiles a little to himself as he makes his way to his Earth Science class. Maybe he is stubborn, but it’s also the busiest time of the semester, and besides, Stede likes his classes. He loves to learn and always has, and finally having the ability to study exactly what he wants hasn’t worn off just yet.
So, Stede blows his nose a final time, thankful for the backup tissues from Lucius, as he’s sure he’ll be running through his own in no time, and trudges across campus to his next class.
He can do this.
*
By the time the day ends and Stede finds himself back in his room his head is throbbing with congestion and he can hardly think straight. Fever, he thinks dimly, but he doesn’t have a thermometer that he can find, so he settles for a lukewarm shower that leaves him shivering, a glass of water, and a dose of cold medicine. He’d been hoping to make it through some of the reading he needs to get done, but anything more than a glance at his laptop sends his eyes swimming with tired, irritated tears.
He’s pressing his face into yet another handful of tissues, his eyes and nose seemingly in some kind of contest for which can run the most, when his phone lights up with a text from Ed.
Ed: How’re you feeling now? Make it back to your room okay?
It’s the first Stede’s heard from him in hours, he realizes sullenly. Ed mentioned his busy day this morning, and Stede had completely forgotten. He knows it’s silly to think that he’s the only one of the two of them trying to slog through the rush of the semester, but he feels just bad enough that he lets himself get away with it.
Stede: Pretty bad :( I’m back, yes, probably just going to end up falling asleep and hoping for the best. How was your day?
Ed: Good :) busy
Stede frowns down at his phone; nothing to smile about as far as he can see.
Stede: Good
Ed: ;)
Stede: What
Ed: Nothing, you get comfy and maybe we can FaceTime in a bit. Don’t fall asleep without me!
Stede’s heart gives a little squeeze. He wishes he could fall asleep with Ed here. He feels a little better about the doubts he’d been having earlier, too. Ed misses him, too, of course he does.
Stede: Wouldn’t dream of it
Ed: <;3
Stede does drift off, though. Almost immediately, in fact. He’d sprawled onto his bed after his shower, wanting nothing more than to get warm as he texted back and forth with Ed, but surrounded by his blankets and the beloved stuffed animals Ed had bought for him over the years, well, he didn’t stand a chance.
It’s his phone that wakes him up. Shit. He was supposed to FaceTime with Ed. Stede coughs into his shoulder, catches his breath, and rubs at his face before he picks up the call. It’s unlikely to do any good, but it’s worth a shot.
“Edward!” Stede says when he answers.
“Stede?” Ed’s somewhere dimly lit, his face pressed in close to his phone.
“Where are you?” Stede asks, yawning. His eyes feel so heavy. His whole head feels heavy, really, thanks to this monster cold. He hadn’t even taken NyQuil, but he might as well have for how overwhelmingly tired he feels.
“Mm? Nowhere,” Ed says quickly. “You fell asleep,” he smiles. It’s not even a question, and the fond tone of his voice makes Stede smile right back. He can’t help it, not when Ed looks like that, warm and smiling and happy, no matter how shitty Stede himself might be feeling.
“Maybe?” Stede says, rummaging around on his bed for the box of tissues he had beside him before he fell asleep. “H-hh! Hang on’d…Snf! Snf!” Sniffling helps for a minute, if that, but Stede finds the tissue box just in time to grab two tissues out of it before he sneezes. “hDT’SSHH! Ii’eishh’uh!”
“Bless you,” Ed says, his voice sympathetic and a little tired-sounding.
“Snf! Thanks,” Stede says. “And sorry,” he adds. “All our conversations today have involved mbe sndeezing at you…”
Ed laughs and Stede wishes he could bottle up the sound of it, let it out whenever he’s feeling bad or missing him. “You’re sick,” Ed reminds him gently. “Don’t need to be sorry for that.”
Right, well. The thing about that is Stede’s still getting used to it, even after two years. Not being an annoyance when he’s sick… having someone to remind him to take medicine and give himself a bit of a break… It's a lot. Stede’s tired and sick enough that his eyes and throat burn with the threat of tears at Ed’s words, and he forces himself to swallow them away.
“Think this cold’s gettin’g worse somehow. I really do miss you,” Stede says. It sounds pitiful and he knows it, but at this moment, he can’t bring himself to care. Ed’s seen it all by now, and nothing’s managed to scare him away so far.
“Mm, yeah, about that,” Ed says, smiling widely now. “I missed you too. And I know how you feel about being alone when you’re sick. So you have to promise not to get mad at me for doing something crazy, yeah?”
Stede sits up, suddenly wide awake as he tries to make sense of Ed’s words. “What do you mean?”
There’s a knock at his door and Stede’s heart leaps as his stomach swoops because of course.
“You’re… no! No way. Ed?? What did you do,” Stede’s sputtering, caught in a tangle of blankets on his narrow bed, and Ed’s laughing as he tumbles out of bed in a surprised little scurry.
“Let me in, you lunatic.”
Stede throws his phone onto his bed and moves as fast as his over-tired, cold-ridden brain will allow him, and then the door’s open and Ed’s here right where Stede’s wanted him every moment of this neverending day. Ed wraps himself around Stede without a second thought, pressing himself in as tight and close as he can manage, Stede’s face tucked into the warm skin of Ed’s neck, breathing each other in for one long, endless moment.
“You’re here,” Stede says without pulling away.
Ed laughs, the sound as warm and familiar as always, except now Stede can feel it vibrating right through him, and even this is enough to make him want to cry all over again. Everything about Ed feels so warm and safe he wants to sink right into him.
“I’m here,” Ed repeats. “Some of us don’t mind skipping the occasional class,” he teases. “D’you know the panic you sent me into this morning, talking about visiting soon when I was literally on my way to you?” He brushes his nose against Stede’s, then smiles when Stede has to sniffle a few times as the contact. “Thought you were about to come to me and we’d be in one of those movie situations where I’m here and you’re there.”
“Don’t think I could’ve managed a drive like that feeling like this, to be honest. And.. I thought you didn’t want me there,” Stede admits, a little ashamed.
Ed looks at him, brushing his thumb gently beneath Stede’s eye and then turning Stede’s face in his hand until Stede’s looking at him.
“Stede Montague Bonnet,” Ed says, and Stede is already smiling and feeling silly for all of it. “I always want you there! Anyone who didn’t want you around before didn’t know what they were missing. Fuck ‘em.”
Ed’s right, Stede knows. None of it matters now, not when Ed’s here in his small single room, wrapped around him and kissing him everywhere he can reach.
Stede does his best to make Ed at home, tucking his bag away and fussing until Ed pushes him gently onto the bed, insisting he can manage two cups of tea while Stede “rebuilds his sick person nest.”
“S’not a nest, really… more of a fort,” Stede huffs, gesturing to the warm white Christmas lights he still has strung from the ceiling. They give the whole place a more cozy vibe, and he keeps them up year round.
“Yeah, yeah, budge over, let me into the Stede Bonnet Fortress of Germs,” Ed says, making his way over to the bed with two steaming mugs of tea.
Stede shifts, rolling over towards the wall and letting Ed settle in against him until they’re pressed in warm and close, wrangling the blankets over themselves. It’s a small bed, but they make it work — Stede tends to sprawl out over Ed anyway, and this time is no different. He’s not inclined to leave even an inch of space between them when he’s spent the last few weeks dreaming of exactly this.
“Koala mode,” Ed murmurs, one hand stroking softly through Stede’s hair, the other drawing patterns over his back.
“You’re going to put me to sleep if you keep that up!”
“That’s the point, darling,” Ed tells him.
Stede shakes his head. “Want to enjoy having you here, not sleep through it.” Stede’s eyes feel heavy though, the events of the day catching up with him all at once. Everything melts away with Ed holding him like this. And, for a rare moment, Stede realizes can breathe through both of his nostrils at the same time, making sleep actually possible.
“We have all weekend, and you’re sick,” Ed reminds him, as if he can possibly forget. “It’s late. You’d be asleep already if it wasn’t for me.”
“You did try to warn me,” Stede smiles, leaning up just enough to brush their lips together.
“So I did. Didn’t want to be locked out, banging away at your door like a jilted lover.”
“Never jilted,” Stede says with a yawn.
“Mm, hope not. Drove a fucking long way; you’re stuck with me.”
Stede can’t imagine ever feeling stuck when it came to Ed, but that was an argument for another day. He lets Ed take charge of the remote, putting on a Planet Earth episode they’ve watched together before but both enjoy, and it really is no time at all before they’re both asleep, lulled by the company, the warmth, and the soothing voice of the TV.
Tomorrow’s another day, after all.

Nothing really matters I don't really care. What nobody tell me I'm gonna be here It's a matter of extreme importance. My first teenage love affair
Warnings: Fluff
“Alright Class Settle Down! Settle Down Class!” “Awww” “Ughh” Everyone in home room is now quieting down taking their seats. “Yo Shuri, what you think of this for my ride to Prom?” Xavier, her lab partner is not focused on the teacher but on his previous conversation. It’s their Senior year at Benedict High School meaning it’s time to party.
Shuri Udaku is one of the most popular girls in school and how could she not be. She is the top women’s basketball recruit in the country coming out of high school. She is tall, dark and what people would say is handsome, intelligent and nice to everyone who deserves it and rich. The rare combination. “Xavi, go with the blacked out Audi that's fire. Ok but like can we pay attention.”
Saying it loud enough so everyone can hear Dr. Stevens the chemistry teacher shoots her a thankful look. “Thank you all. I know it’s senior year and your focus is on everything but chemistry. So to shake things up I will be assigning new lab partners. Please stand up and listen for your names.” As they move to stand Shuri looks over and notices Riri.
Rihanna Williams is Valedictorian and resident mechanical genius. This makes her the polar opposite of Shuri as far as high school standards. She’s quiet and shy going unnoticed by so many. Her grades have earned her early acceptance to M.I.T, Cal Tech, Harvard, Princeton and Yale. The young woman is a shortie but beautiful with flawless brown skin and curls.
Shuri and Riri are friends despite the high school “rules”because they enjoy each other. Shuri knows how shy Ri is so she never pushes her to hang out. But today Shuri has missed her a lot and has to let her know. “Hello Rihanna wassup? I don’t like how long it’s been since we’ve spoken.” Riri is alway in awe when Shuri talks to her which should not be the case but still.
“It was summer in my defense and I was in another state. But I have been ok. How about you?” Shuri beams her a million dollar smile.
“I am fine just missed you is all. Out of state? I would love hear about your trip, we will have to talk more outside of school about it.” Riri’s face twisted into a combination smirk and confused look with a touch of blush. Did The Shuri Udaku say she missed her? Was she being flirted with? What is going on?
“Uhh we can talk more outside of school for sure. I’ll pen you into my schedule.” Riri played along as best she knew how. It was in about 8th grade she realized that girls looked better than boys and her “Friend” Shuri was the best looking of everyone. So she maintained their school friendship to keep her close. Shuri “came out” that same year which is another level of attraction.
“Ahem Ms Williams and Ms Udaku. Are you going to join us?” They are the last two standing. The conversation took their attention away from the exercise. “Yes! Sorry Doc. Who am I paired with?” Shuri spoke up knowing that Riri was embarrassed she NEVER gets called out. Shuri may have taken a special interest in Riri as well. “You two are the only ones standing.” Shocked, they both speak this time. “Dr. Stevens… Shuri allows Ri to speak. “I normally work alone.” Riri’s warm voice is low but firm.
“I am aware Ms. Williams but I wanted to get you out of your comfort zone. In college you will have to push the envelope. This is the start. Have a seat now. Thank you.” Breathing somewhat hard and sliding into her chair, Riri could not believe it. She has never had to work with anyone on a project ever and now she will have to work all year with her CRUSH. Her social anxiety is sky high. Shuri takes a look over and places a comforting hand on Ri’s shoulder. “Hey it’s cool I won’t bite.” That for some reason helped how????
By the end of class Riri was able to calm herself some. “Hey Shuri I guess we will really have to talk outside of school now.” Riri was coy but it was nice to speak up first. Shuri is listening with intention and smirks. “You're right, give me your phone.” Handing her the phone Shuri locks in her number and calls herself so she has Riri’s.
“Aye yo Shuri! Come on.” Xavier runs up and grabs Shuri by her shoulders so they can go to the next class. “Oh snap wassup…um Titi?” Shuri and Riri’s face both fall flat. “Put some respect on her name man it’s Rihanna aite.” Shuri’s tone is stern. “Apologize.”
Xavier was taken aback but this is not the first time he’s been corrected about Riri’s name. “I apologize Riri.” She is flustered so she answers while looking down. “It’s fine. Thank you.” Shuri pushes Xavier away and tells him to beat it. Placing a finger under Riri’s chin she winks. “Hey he’s a knucklehead. Don’t worry I got ya back ok? See you soon.” Shuri has a crooked smile on her face looking at Ri leaving quickly after. Riri is left processing today so far. The only thing that snaps her back is the late bell.
MJ is the only other person on campus who Riri is friends with. On her journey to English Lit she pulls out her phone to texts MJ her status. Her phone buzzes before she can send anything that says class is late to start. MJ was a savior and Riri sprints to class.

okay your turn if nobody else has asked: TOP FIVE JH CHARACTERS GO
... girl... how does one choose? how does one??? when there are so many beautiful boys??? ok. OK I'll give it a shot.
Tumblr media
5. Captain Crow - The Sea Beast This film is just incredible on every front. One of my favorite concept artists worked on it (which I did not know until a few weeks ago but now that I know I feel like kicking myself because I REALLY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THEIR STYLE WELL ENOUGH BY NOW). But I remember watching this, and screaming when the credits began to roll because WAIT?!?!?! THAT WAS JARED HARRIS??? OH!!! WHAT A DELIGHT!!! I LOVE THAT GUY!!!! (oh babygirl wait a few months it's gonna hit you so bad). He's great. I hope we see more of him in the sequel that would be great for me.
Tumblr media
4. Hari Seldon Honestly. What a little shit. "But Egg," you might ask "If he's such a little shit why is he on here?" well. He's hot. Really I am not over how hot this dude is. I know I couldn't fix him not in a million years. But idk. Something about him always makes my brain go brrr. So he's on here. Also I just love how fucking atypically written this show is and I have a wee soft spot for asimov. They didn't have to cast Jared as Hari and make him unbelievably hot. But they did. And he's so enigmatic. I love that.
Tumblr media
3. John Lennon Egg's love for Jared Harris Origins. I was a Beatles girlie, ok? I'm not ashamed to admit that. It was my introductory fandom experience at the ripe old age of baby, and I really ate it up. I remember going into this movie being like "oh it's some dumb TV movie about John and Paul how good can it be?" Very good, as it turns out. And having assigned myself a John Lennon girlie I literally could never get over this depiction. The mannerisms, the fucking tripped-out way he philosophizes in conversation, the softness, and ofc the old friends tension. Jared got it all. Of course I'd seen him in stuff here and there, but this was the one that cemented him as a beloved actor in my mind for me (I literally re-wound the kiss scene as well like 20 times don't judge me but that awakened some stuff in me). Been following him ever since.
Tumblr media
2. Lane Pryce - Mad Men This dude broke me for real. I didn't get into Mad Men until college, and binged it all on my friend's hulu account. And lemme tell ya. Did NOT see his final episode coming. Did not. And it made me genuinely weep. He was a highlight in the show. He was one of the only guys I could actually say is a good dude in that show, and he deserved so much better than he got in the end. I look at him and I'm just like... leave ur wife. Leave your job. Lets just go out of this capitalistic hellscape. I want to make him Well. I will love him forever for how he just completely destroyed me.
1.Francis Crozier / Valery Legasov - HA! you thought I was not going to tie them? WRONG! I can't keep these bad bitches apart.
Tumblr media
Francis really needs no explanation at this point. I am so actually genuinely in love with him I'm writing a whole ass gothic romance novel of a fic for him, as you all know (and which has summarily turned out a BANGER of a modern AU as well). I made a bloody self-insert oc for him. Gothic Cinema is literally my favorite genre and Francis is the most Gothic Hero of all time, honestly (well besides Valery obviously). The serotonin he continually gives me makes my meds redundant. He is my sweet husband who I love with my whole life and that's that.
Tumblr media
And Valery? sorry you can't put a babygirl of a man like that in front of me and not expect that I would want to jump his bones like? Not only is the constant existential dread relatable, but as much as people tell him he's not brave, he IS without a doubt, and honestly, just by virtue of uttering the most iconic logline ever fucking created he deserves this spot on this list. Both of these dudes make my soul ascend in a certain way not just with how brilliantly they were written, but with how incredibly Jared executed them (for which I want to kill the academy for not giving him awards on either). Top Beloveds forever and ever and ever amen.

Tips from a (former) GIS Undergraduate Student to other GIS students
Reuploaded since reddit mods haven't got back to my message and reddit's spam filter is removing it no matter where i post it...
I have graduated from college (wooo!) and wanted to share advice that helped me out. I hope you find it useful!
Volunteer to boost your resume or if you lack GIS work experience
When I first started my GIS major, I wanted to get work experience alongside my classes. The thing was I began my degree when Covid started, so landing a GIS internship when most organizations were laying off people was not realistic.
I knew I needed something on my resume so I decided volunteering was the best way to go.
I googled ‘GIS volunteer opportunities’, saw a listing through United Nation’s volunteer portal, and got something pretty quickly. It was an online position that I did on my own time for 6 months. It was very fun! I highly recommend any Geography student do some type of GIS volunteer work before you graduate.
As of writing this post, I checked the website and it looks like the UN doesn’t have any positions listed but there is a website dedicated to GIS volunteer positions:
https://www.giscorps.org/become-a-volunteer/
Also, every job interview I had has always asked me about this volunteer role lol.
Speaking of jobs….
Make a GIS Portfolio
Start a portfolio NOW. Add anything you created from your courses to it! A GIS portfolio makes you stand out from the competition when applying to internships/jobs, and may even be required for some job applications.
This is a VERY detailed video about what it should include (Yes it’s an hour long but the information is worth it!! ).
youtube
Network
You have heard it a MILLION times but network!! Connect with your local GIS organization and try to attend a conference. If you can’t for whatever reason, search for online GIS organizations and see if you can join their online zoom meetings.
Learn to Code
I have run into Python, R, Javascript, and HTML/CSS during my undergraduate work and various internships/jobs. Be ahead of the curve and learn it on your own. I would HIGHLY recommend Python if you want to start with a language and don’t have a course at your university. Just start with a basic ‘intro to python’ video and then complete python gis tutorials.
Make a separate account for GIS stuff
Just to keep things organized and in one place, I recommend you make a separate email for GIS. For some of my courses I was required to sign up for GIS software/sites and I wanted to have access long after graduation so I made a separate account for it.
Example email: [email protected]
Take Advantage of (Online) Communities
Being in GIS forums/groupchats/servers/etc has helped me so much! From feedback with assignments to how to market myself when looking for a job, joining groups is beneficial.
I LOVEEE the GIS Discord server and highly recommend you join.
(Link to server https://disboard.org/server/769917190182404127 )
Keep Learning!
This is the most important thing I want you to leave with. GIS is constantly evolving and in order to be on top, you need to be up to date on new technology and software updates etc.
Personally, I would be learning new stuff during semester breaks and take advantage of the free courses Esri MOOC has.

P&P Magic University AU for @crossedwithblue ;) Lizzie/Darcy as always
Lizzie’s Tuesday is going almost comically bad, she thinks, as she throws up an arm for a brief barrier of light before the explosion can singe her eyebrows off. She’s already got bright blue streaks through her hair that may or may not be permanent, depending on how potent Maria’s potion actually was. And before that she’d had an argument with Darcy in the staff meeting that ended with a verbal reprimand.
At least he had been verbally reprimanded, too.
And now she’s sighing as she fans the smoke out of her face, her newest canister for housing magical energy gone up, quite literally, in flames. Which is going to knock her findings back at least two months. “The nature of research,” she mutters.
A knock on the door interrupts her thoughts. “Professor Bennet?”
Quickly schooling her face into a warm smile, she looks up. “Yes, Maria?”
Maria’s cheeks turn pink. “I was wondering if your hair was still blue, but.”
Lizzie laughs at that. “Yes. I’m actually pretty impressed. Want to go over your processes with me? Maybe we can market this stuff.”
Maria gives her a delighted grin.
Once Lizzie is satisfied the blue will eventually fade from her hair and has assured Maria she won’t be failing the assignment, she makes sure the lights are off in her office, and brushes her fingers against her nameplate on her door. It’s a gesture she does at the end of every day, to remind herself that she’s where she wants to be. Teaching college-level potions can get tiring, but she does love playing mad scientist, and genuinely cares about her students. Plus, the teaching provides her a position for her research into renewable forms of magical energy and accessibility for nonmagical people, her current mission in life.
It’s a niche subject, to be sure, but she’s garnering more interest and rarely has to fight anyone other than Darcy over it these days. And even then his arguments are getting more nitpicky than anything.
“Professor Bennet.”
“Speak of the devil,” she murmurs to herself, before turning to meet Darcy’s expectant gaze. “What?”
His eyes flick up to the streaks of blue in her hair. “Lab accident?”
She sighs and starts walking down the hallway, shifting her bag on her shoulder. “Maria Lucas added eye of newt to her potion instead of the tail.”
“Huh.”
She waits a beat before prompting him, “What do you want?”
“I was wondering if you would mind meeting me this weekend, on Sunday, if you’re free.”
The offer stops her in her tracks. She turns sharply to look at him, his face unreadable. “What?”
“I was asking if you had time on Sunday -”
She waves her hand to interrupt him. “I heard you. What I meant was why?”
His brow furrows as he meets her gaze. “I need your help. You’re the most competent potions professor we have, and I have a project that requires a knowledge of the subject.”
It’s like her brain stops and restarts, and she flounders for words before deciding on, “But you don’t like me.”
An interesting blush blooms across his cheeks. “I don’t remember saying that.”
“I feel like it’s implied,” she says, before considering him. "What project?”
“I managed to get a copy of a first printing of Pantagruel’s Grimoire, and I thought it would be fun for my Intro to Renaissance Magic class if we recreated some of his potions.”
Her eyebrow raises. “And?”
He sighs. “Some of the ingredients he lists are either protected substances or no longer available to obtain, like dragon scales. I thought you could help figure out substitutions.”
“I mean, I could definitely help you out,” she says, slowly, turning it over in her mind, “but you know you could just Google substitutions, right?”
“Yes, but this sounds more fun.” He pauses, the hint of a smile forming. “Besides, I trust you more than the internet.”

No thoughts, head empty except for witch Darcy. Lizzie/Darcy, another magic!au Because I caaaannnnnn
Lizzie is 15 when she sees the village witch for the first time. It’s not her village, of course, but a neighboring one. Longbourn is too small for a witch to make a proper living, so the closest one is in Netherfield, a two hour’s ride from their home. She goes there once a month, with her mother and sisters, to get the things they can’t at the market nearby.
He’s younger than she thought, handsome in a way she didn’t believe witches could be. Her mother’s stories always made her picture them as elderly, haggard looking people. But he’s unmistakable in his robe, the sweep of deep purple fabric denoting his status, standing in the corner of the square, listening to another young man animatedly talk his ear off.
She thanks her lucky stars when her mother doesn’t notice and leads them the opposite way. The last thing she needs is to be shoved in front of another eligible male.
She’s 21 when she speaks to him.
As she’s grown up, she’s seen him quite a few more times, collecting facts about him like they’re precious stones. His name is Fitwilliam Darcy, and he became the village witch the year she saw him, at 20. He has a sister who is a witch in training up north, and he keeps to himself. People accuse him of being arrogant and cruel, but Lizzie doesn’t put much stock in town gossip.
She’s never exactly planned on testing the gossip and talking to him herself, but Jane gets sick. So sick, their healer assumes she won’t last the night.
Lizzie can survive anything, except the loss of her sister.
Jane, who is all that is perfect and good in the world, deserves a chance to live. Lizzie can’t imagine a world without her. So, she runs out to the fields and steals her father’s horse, riding as fast as she can to Netherfield, to the cottage on the outskirts she knows the witch lives in.
A two hour ride that takes an hour and fifteen, her father’s poor horse shaking with exhaustion as she comes to an abrupt halt in front of the door, not bothering to take a breath as she throws herself at the wood and bangs on it with all her might.
She gets six knocks in before the door is thrown open, the witch’s scowling face on the other side.
“What?” he snaps, before his eyes widen as he takes in Lizzie’s sweating form.
“My sister,” she gasps, “you have to save my sister.”
He’s quiet for a moment, examining her, before asking, “What’s wrong with her?”
She details Jane’s illness, the progression of it, her pallor and inability to keep even fluid down, before finishing, “I’ll do anything.”
His eyebrows shoot up. “Anything?”
She nods. “Whatever the price is, I’ll pay it.”
He considers her for a moment longer, before turning to go back into his cottage. “Let me see if I can save her first.”
The horse she rode is in no condition to go anywhere, so she gets on the back of the witch’s, once he’s gathered his things, and holds onto him tightly. “I’m Lizzie, by the way.”
He shifts uncomfortably before taking off. “I know. I’m Darcy.”
She buries her face in his back, lets a few tears leak out. “I know.”
The ride is terse, but only takes forty-five minutes. Darcy must’ve used some magic to make them get there faster, and she’s grateful for it. They tumble off the horse, together, and she throws open the door of her family’s home to their shocked faces.
“Lizzie?” her father asks, rising out of his chair by the fire, surrounded by her other sisters. “Where have you -”
“Where’s Jane?” Darcy asks, interrupting him.
Comprehension dawns on her father’s face, and Darcy is quickly led to the bedroom Jane has been confined in. Lizzie can hear her mother’s wailing in the background stop once Darcy enters the room. She can’t be there, though, and abruptly turns around to go back outside, leaving her other sisters to watch her leave.
She’s unsure how much time passes as she sits in the tall grass by the house, face buried in her knees as she hugs them to her chest. All she can do is sit and wait and hope she wasn’t too late. It’s torture as she runs through all her memories of Jane, and thinks of all the things they still have to do. Like raise their children and grow old together.
Finally, just as the sky is beginning to lighten, Darcy steps outside, wiping his hands with a rag. Her eyes snap up to his as he approaches. “How is she?”
“She’ll live,” he tells her. “She’ll need rest for two weeks, and won’t be completely better for longer, but she’ll live.”
She lurches to her feet and wraps him in a hug, surprising him judging by the way he stiffens. “Thank you.”
He pats her on the back awkwardly before stepping away. “Well, I didn’t do it for free. I thought of my price.”

My #1 post of 2022
I’m back mes bébés Not for very long, but I’m trying Anyway, you know the drill Darcy/Lizzie, soulmate au
Lizzie meets her soulmate in a statistically improbable, but obviously possible, way in that she punches him in the face during a bar fight.
As a rule, Lizzie does not get into fights at bars. In fact, she very rarely goes to bars where fights happen at all. She frequents the local dive bar on the corner where the owner knows her by name and keeps her favorite cider on tap. Her uncle Frank’s bar does a good business, but he never lets the crowd get too rowdy. Which is why she should’ve insisted George Knightley and the rest of her college buddies meet her there, instead of Bingley’s Bar and Grill in the middle of downtown, prime real estate for drunken assholes.
Her second mistake was spotting Lydia across the room and deciding to say something.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” Lizzie hisses, grabbing her underage sister’s arm after swimming through the masses that had separated them.
Lydia wrenches herself out of Lizzie’s grip with some effort, both because Lizzie’s hand is a vice and Lydia is on her way to being very drunk. “You’re not Mom, Lizzie.”
“Thank God for that.” Lizzie wraps her arm around Lydia this time and starts dragging her towards the exit, despite Lydia’s protests. “If I was Mom I would’ve kicked your ass when it needed kicking.”
Before Lydia can retort, some guy more drunk than Lydia is appears. “Hey, what’re you doing with my girl?”
Something about the voice makes Lizzie squint, and, even through tequila-colored glasses, she recognizes him from when she was at college eight years ago. “Wickham?”
“Hey, Lizzy B!”
She groans and continues tugging Lydia towards the exit. “Oh my God, Lydia, you know he’s 32, right?”
“We’re in love,” Lydia whines. “Let me go.”
Wickham grabs Lydia’s arm. “Yeah, let her go, Liz. We’re here to have a good time.”
Lizzie opens her mouth to argue, before a guy looking like the bouncer walks up. “I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”
After that, things go blurry, with Lizzie arguing with Lydia, Wickham, and the bouncer all at once. George comes over to try and break it up, with someone she’d seen sitting at the bar earlier. She’s thankful for backup, until the stranger opens his mouth and insinuates her sister is the problem. It’s the last straw in a bad night, so she makes a fist, pulls it back, and hits him square in the face.
The pain radiating up her arm is the first thing she notices, and the blossoming of color over his face second, a starburst of pinks and blues around his eye. She can’t say anything, because as soon as she notices the mark, she’s being dragged out the bar, slung over the bouncer’s shoulder. Thankfully, she notices George doing the same thing with Lydia, so at least she doesn’t have to worry about that, too.
Once they’re outside, Lizzie thinks she’ll have time to process the situation, but then Jane pulls up and is the maddest Lizzie has ever seen her. After an hour of lecturing that is mostly directed at Lydia, Lizzie finds herself bundled up on her couch, Charlotte and George examining her hand as Jane drives Lydia home.
“You didn’t even get his name?” Charlotte asks George incredulously, rubbing her thumb over Lizzie’s pastel knuckles.
George sighs and rubs the back of his neck, leaning back into his seat. “All I saw was Lizzie arguing with Wickham and knew it wasn’t going to end well. I didn’t even notice the guy following me until he said something.”
“I can’t believe I had to work,” Charlotte grumbles, finally dropping Lizzie’s hand. “I would’ve gotten his name.”
“No, you would’ve been throwing punches, too.”
Charlotte sighs. “Yeah, probably.” She jostles Lizzie’s shoulder. “Liz, you okay? You’re awful quiet.”
Lizzie is also feeling uncomfortably sober. “This can’t be happening to me.”
George rolls his eyes. “Only you would be upset she has a soulmate.”
“Oh, shut up,” Lizzie says without any heat. “I would be happy if my soulmate wasn’t an asshole.”
“I’m sure it’s just a misunderstanding,” George insists. “You were pretty drunk.”
“Not drunk enough, apparently.”
“We’re just going to have to go back tomorrow,” Charlotte tells her matter-of-factly. “I bet he’s going to do the same.”
Her soulmate does not, in fact, do the same. Charlotte and Jane drag her to the bar and talk to the bartender. He’s not very helpful, but he’s cute, and takes a shining to Jane. While Lizzie leaves her number with him in case her soulmate wants to get in touch, Jane gives him hers for more personal reasons.
Lizzie goes into the bar a few more times but, after no success, gives up. If her soulmate isn’t going to put any effort into finding her, she’ll be damned if she puts effort into finding him. She’s happy in her life, and doesn’t need anyone else to complete it.

i’m from the uk, if i apply to a top us university will they have lower standards for extracurricular stuff? because i see us students with like 9 volunteering activities, national level sport, perfect grades, started a business with 6 figure profit and they get rejected from so many colleges. of course i will do some activities (a bit of work experience, some volunteering, very good gcses and alevels, reading and competitions, high level piano and clarinet) but no one does any more than that to get into a top university in the uk, whereas everyone seems to be doing about 5x that amount in the us and still not having much luck. will they take that into account?
As someone who went through both the US and UK application process, I would say that the US process is just less straightforward. Colleges in the US are looking for a wide variety of traits that they think will create the best incoming class possible. Typically, they want a class that's balanced for gender, that has a variety of people from different racial/ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, etc., that everyone in the class can do the work they're assigned, that their individual programs will have enough students, that the student is a "good fit" for the school, etc.
That means that, while they're looking for some students who have lots of extracurriculars, universities are also looking for students who have shown dedication to just one activity or subject, students who have unique interests, students who come from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, etc. For many universities in the US, a student who has been working to support their family is equally as interesting as a student who did a million different activities.
And because universities are looking for a lot of different things, it can be hard to guess who will get into which school. For example, I went to a top 30 university in the US (I think it was ranked 21 when I applied) (I also got into St Andrews and got a conditional from Edinburgh, if that gives some context). My GPA actually wasn't that good and I didn't have that many extracurriculars going for me. Pretty much my only activity was that I did theater, both at school and then for a professional theater company. But my test scores were excellent, I had a few unusual projects that I had worked on, and I wanted to pursue a program that the university put a lot of money into but that didn't have a lot of students. So for the university, I was a pretty good gamble. My guess is that from my test scores, they could see that I could do the work, from my activities, they could see that I could maintain dedication to a project long-term, and my unusual projects plus an interest in an unusual field of study meant that I would fill a spot in a program they were trying to grow and that I had a higher likelihood of doing something interesting. Most of the other people I know who went to my university got in via an audition or portfolio rather than their extracurricular activities. It really depends on the person and what they might be able to offer the school.
All of that is to say that it depends on the story you tell on your application materials and your interview. Universities in the US want you to present a strong story that reflects what you're like as a person, not just a list of what you've done or an explanation of why you're interested in a given subject. If you can tell a compelling story, you're more likely to get in than you would be if you just had good credentials.

Religious Prayer
Essay学霸今天给各位留学生带来一篇宗教Prayer代写范文。
Prayer 1:
Explanation:
I am going to pray for Doctor Li Wenliang. It is well known that China and even the whole world are largely influenced by the coronavirus. I hope we can always remember the lessons we have learnt from this plague and the health care staffs who work in the front line to protect us. Dr. Li Wenliang is a great figure who is well worth our respect. He tried to raise alarm on coronavirus in China’s Wuhan city, but he died on the front line in this medical fight. Li has warned his friends and classmates through Wechat, equivalent to Facebook in America, about the deadly disease. His warning was two weeks before the coronavirus broke out in Wuhan, a city with 14 million citizens which has to be sealed off on Jan. 20th. His integrity and faithfulness to his citizens should never be forgotten.
Opening prayer:
Almighty ever-living God, you rule both the living and the dead and are merciful to all. We humbly beg you, that those for whom we pour out our prayers may obtain peace and joyfulness through your tender mercy.
Personal intentions:
I sincerely hope that Dr Li Wenliang can rest in peace where there is no lies and injustice.
With the Grace from Our Father, I hope I will never lose the courage to speak truth and fight against injustice and evil, just like what Dr Li has done.
I hope people will never forget Dr Li and his colleagues, because it is their selfless efforts that we can have a heathy and happy life.
I hope the nation will never forget Dr Li.
Intentions:
For all those who sacrifice in their work.
For all heath care people who protect our health.
For the authorities that can truly serve for their people.
For all of us that we can be a person with integrity.
Closing prayer:
Dear God. May we rejoice together, be blessed in your sight, and praise you forever. Amen.
Prayer 2:
Explanation:
Last year, there were scandals about college admissions. It was said that rich families with higher social status pay bribes for their children so they could attend prestigious institutions. About 50 people were involved in this admission scandal-- including Hollywood stars, top CEOs, college coaches and standardized test administrators. They were alleged taking part in the scheme to cheat in the college admission and admit students to these institutions, regardless of their genuine abilities. For many people, what fears them most is that the country’s upper class is stealing opportunity from the rest of the population. Is there still any chance to ensure social mobility? This phenomenon is not only unique in America, as many countries in the world face with the similar situations. If we do not have the chance to change our destiny, what’s the fundamental purpose of living in the world? Some of us may fall into the hole of nihilism.
Opening prayer:
Almighty God, we pray that Your Spirit have the power to control all things. May Your Spirit rule over the leaders in our world, over the legislature and over the bureaucrats, over all citizens so we can have equal chances in this life under your Grace.
Personal intentions:
I hope we can have equal access to education so all of us can have a bright future.
I hope I will never be influenced by the devil and remain true to my heart.
I hope I can realize my dream through my own efforts.
I hope the authorities can have concrete measures so our equal rights can be protected.
Intentions:
For all those underprivileged, may they feel be included and loved.
For all citizens that American Dream will never be shattered.
For authorities, may they remain true to their initial aspiration to shoulder the responsibilities.
For all of us that we can have the courage to fight against social injustice.
Closing prayer:
Dear God. May Your Spirit always guide us and never go astray and may we all have equal chance in this world. Amen.

(Virtual Sketchbook #1)
Greeting, my name is Ryan Nguyen and one of little known fact about myself is that the last time I ever travel to outside of Florida nearly 5 years ago is Los Angeles from California which lasted 2 months of fun experience during the summer trip with my family members and friends.
Autumn Rhythm by Jackson Pollock
The work of Autumn Rhythm serves it causes to summon up a sensation of otherworldly intensity which are continuously advancing in the absence of dawn or dusk.
Jackson Pollock is best skillful for his measures of portrays and the works of Abstract Expressionist. For these projects, many have created during his stream time, Pollock splash paint onto canvas to depict the feeling in response of motion. He then encountered subjects as well as bizarre map-reading of the insentient and Jungian exemplifies.
Some techniques of Pollock which come from the uses of ladle, sticks, and cutters to make up entanglements of slash line and various colors, sculpting murky webs and grids that the covering on top of one another to put forward signs of development and room.
Pollock's works are very pursued after for their brilliance, inspiration on the Abstract Expressionist movement, and as a illustration of Americanism. Among his costly sculpted pieces, including Blue Poles, which is priced up to approximately $350 million, and sold for $200 million which make the work of its painting so precious and treasures.
Jackson Pollock's favorite hobby in ceramics was influenced along with the task of his mentor, Thomas Hart Benton, who come across competent in the course of his penniless times in New York that it was serene and undisturbed to exchange furnished ceramics for sales rather than paintings which appears to pull through twice miraculously.
At first, I thought the painting of the piece from Autumn Rhythm was all randomly messy and splattered, with lines and color swirling all over the inserted frame. But after upon further investigation, the art of its work show such sprinted visual rhythm which gives off very bodily notation of connecting the painting with the artist's recent techniques.

Tumblr media

The work of art shows labor tasks all men, including women and children, have to go through. Some medias include pen, ink, and acrylic paints. The art serves to appraise regular people in a realistic attitude when participate in every day's works which seems burden.
I'm recently become 20 years old since last month. My gender is male. The country I was born from are Vietnam. My ethnicity is Asian. Some hobbies or types of fun I usually do during my break time is sketching or drawing unfinished digital arts on phone or iPad, planning and listing things on white board for any kind of arrangement, and watching news from twitter, Youtube, and other social networks. Currently, I'm not assigned to any particular group or organization. I'm in a process of completing the course requirements for Associate in Arts degree from online college. What makes me unique is that I'm the tallest family members than the rest of my family, including my older sibling and grandfather.
Tumblr media
This type of self-portrait I come up with depicts the kind of freedom I have looking for once I'm cleared all the remaining assignments and tasks that has still yet come before me. But no matter how much I accomplished, there's still more endless possibilities that I still has yet to overcome. The more I think about it, the more worry it grow within my mind, but it also somewhat give me courage and motivation to keep thriving to avoid failing again after countless mistakes I made in life along the way.

U3A1 MON FEB 6
Content:
-Professors can share course materials with other professors online which can create great lesson plans for all
-8 biggest teaching and learning issues in 2017: faculty development academic transformation, digital & informational literacies, accessibility & universal design for learning, CBE & assessment of student learning, open education!!!!, online & blended teaching and learning, and learning space designs
-"very big" problems survey resulted in the top 3 being racism, sexism, and college affordability in the US
-student loan debts higher than credit card debt, auto loan, and other non-housing debt
-the spread of the internet has allowed students to pay less for textbooks via online versions
-open educational resources could save college students $5 million a year
Challenges of college students these days:
-large, full lecture halls
-impersonal teaching environment
-lack of flexibility for students juggling work and studies
-traditional lectures in general
-students leave STEM for "poor teaching"
-online classes with small assignments due every day helps with mastery and peer pressure (group assignments) helps motivate students + students can go at their own pace
-$150 textbook is not as good as the free internet!
-early class times - fewer people show up to class (10% lower)
Digital learning benefits
-adapting to students' capabilities, promoting active and collaborative learning, and supporting learners with timely feedback and individual support
-content mastery can occur 2x as quickly
-pass rates for at-risk students can increase by 1/3
-degree completion can increase
Reflection:
WOW! There was a lot to learn today about college! I think my biggest takeaways are that college learning environments aren't suited for the students, they are suited for the teachers/what makes the most sense scheduling-wise/what makes the most money. College would be so SO much more accessible if instead of textbooks, professors used open educational resources- like this class does! I spent $300 on textbooks just this semester... I pay for my own rent and tuition and am working a campus job that pays me $10/ hour... I cannot afford those textbooks and thousands of other people can't either. I shouldn't have to choose between knowing I can afford groceries or getting good grades because I bought a textbook. I think education in general should move to a open resource model, it would help lower costs, give students multiple perspectives to learn from AND allow professors to help each other come up with the best lesson plans.

Why do people hate Andrew Tate?
Tumblr media
Andrew Tate is in the business of courting people's attention. He understands what power really is. Robert Greene in his book 48 laws of power talks about ways to acquire power and influence. One of the ways of acquiring power is to court attention of people, it is better to be bashed for your opinions than hiding amongst the timid masses. That's exactly what he does. He gives controversial remarks about women and other stuff so that he can get people's attention. You love him or hate him it doesn't matter because he's getting richer and richer as long as you keep watching him. He runs an online course called Hustlers University which has 100k+ students, these people are his loyal followers. They make multiple social media accounts on every platform and post his clips. This triggers a chain reaction and everyone starts posting videos related to him and in that is why you see him everywhere all the time.
He plays on people's need to believe and react emotionally. He potrays himself as a saviour of masculinity. And he has succeeded in making a lot of young men to join his cult. We think that we have evolved too far, religion and religious leaders were something of the past, people were naïve those days. Honestly, it is still the case, new age religions and religious leaders have emerged and Tate is one of them. However, the playbook he uses has been there for thousands of years.
Now, I will go deeper into what exactly he does to court people's attention. I will be a bit philosophical, please don't mind. According to Dharma we are in an age called the ‘Kali yuga'. In ‘Kali Yuga' almost everyone becomes shudra. Shudra is someone whose most visible personality trait is ‘Tamas' . It is characterized by laziness and immense lust. It is not hard to understand how to attract such people towards you. Just show them the material you possess and they'll lust for it. Tate's lifestyle is basically what most teenage boys these days dream of, fast cars, fame and women.
Tate is a shrewd businessman who knows how to get money out of your pocket. By the way, those who think that they are'nt giving him any money, my friend you are giving him money. Your time isn't free or unlimited, it has a value. He started a webcam business before onlyfans was a thing. That's how he made his first million and he never looked back after that.
Honestly, you should'nt look at people's words you should look at their actions. You can say all kind things about people whom you hate but that does'nt change the fact that you hate them. Despite all of this I believe that the overall influence he has on young men is net positive. Perhaps, this is the reason why the universe is supporting his cause. In this world we live in you cannot make large amounts of money without adding value to people's lives. I think Tate has genuinely added value to people's lives.
People mostly hate him for his remarks on women which he gives only for attention. One of the things he said was that if you have a girlfriend and she opens an onlyfans account she should give you a cut on her earnings, because you own a part of her. This remark is solely for the purpose of getting views and nothing else. There's no point in analyzing such remarks.
If I were to analyze one of his good remarks that would be his idea of matrix. The people at the top have setup society in such a way that you are set on a path to failure. You will spend the first 18 years of your life doing slavery in school. Completing pointless assignments and memorizing things that don't even matter. Schools are designed to make you slave-minded. Then after that you go to college. Colleges are a scam. Student loan is the worst kind of loan, you cannot even decleare bankruptcy on it. It is the investment with the worst ROI, most degrees are useless. There's nothing fancy about having a corporate job, it is a form of slavery. You will spend all your time inside a cubicle and then your life will come to an end. This is a terrible, terrible life and that is how most people in this world live.
To summarize why people hate Tate, it is because he wants some percentage of his viewers to hate him. That is how you lead a cult, isn't it by clearly stating who you enemy is. It has always been this way.

Stay on top of your schedule with this study app’s built in notification alerts if you need a bit of extra nagging!
The Quizlet flashcard app is a quick and easy mobile study tool that will help you prepare for the next big test, examination, or presentation.

This app is especially helpful for international students looking to learn some of the local language in their study abroad country. Browse the library to find a deck of flashcards in your subject area and add them to your daily study routine!
Evernote is more than a note-taking app: It’s one of the best apps for college students, helping you keep track of everything from lecture notes to bright ideas.
Tired of rifling through notebooks and folders for the right notes? Organize your coursework, track due dates, type notes, and save related handouts, websites, and whiteboard pictures- all in one place. Evernote also allows you to save webpages for markups, and can even be integrated with Google Drive and Outlook!
If you are always forgetting where you save things, you can search tags and text, even within uploaded photos of your handwritten class notes. You will never have to worry about losing connection, as this student planner app is usable even if you’re offline.
Note-taking apps are ten to a penny, but there's one that stands out from the rather sizeable crowd: Notion.
The app's biggest selling point is its versatility. Apart from taking notes, you can manage projects, create a calendar, write a daily journal, plan travel itineraries and much more. You can use it to not only organise your uni work, but pretty much everything else in your life.
On top of that, you can sync your notes across all devices, meaning you can type on your tablet and then access all your lecture notes on your laptop when it's time to write your essay.
If Notion is a table knife (tried, trusted, and good for almost any occasion), then Soundnote is definitely a steak knife. When you're in a dense lecture, or just struggling to concentrate, this is the app you'll want to turn to – it's certainly one of the very best apps for students.
So what does it do? Well, as you're taking lecture notes, Soundnote is busy recording whatever is being said around you (not in a creepy way) and syncing the two. Once you're done, you can simply tap a word and it will take you to that point in the recording.
In student terms, if your lecturer is throwing some heavy info your way (or speaking at the speed of light) and you're struggling to keep up, this is your get-out-of-jail-free card. Just go back to where your notes tailed off, and give it another crack.
The truth of our modern times is that you probably won’t find a student who does not use innovative gadgets today. It is also true that students use different mobile applications not only for entertainment, but for studying as well.

Can Coursera get you a job?
There is no general answer for that question but the acceptance of online degrees and certificate is growing. Especially for quality degree/ certificates provided by Coursera. Some people are thinking that attending physical classes are better than having to attend online class. However, this is all misguided because the research has shown the student who attends online classes has shown better result / performs better than their peers who attend physical classes. While a few organizations put a high incentive on courses like these, some don't. You can never know without a doubt whether they will be useful in the pursuit of employment except if you explicitly ask the scouts or recruiting managers. The courses certainly will not damage your resume, however! Truly, they could even be a central consideration for you landing the position over another person who doesn't have those seminars on their resume!
My top 4 points on the legitimate of online degrees
1). Online classes are accredited
Before enrolling for any online courses, one must ensure that it is accredited
Quality degrees will require accreditation without any problem from the relevant authorities.
2). Can transfer online credits
Employers and institution of higher learning recognized online degrees more now than before.
Most famous colleges and universities are not only offering physical classes but are also offering online classes and distance learning.
Therefore, it is possible to transfer credits from an online degree whenever you want you want to pursue a graduate degree from any university.
3). Online degree is Rigorous
Online degree is rigorous and covers all the necessary contents as per the course.
Studying online caters for all types of students: slow learner or fast learner as the classes are personalized.
What is Coursera?
Coursera is an online course provider that was founded by Andrew Ng and Daphne Koller in 2012. Both of them were Stanford Professors

Courses
By June 2018, Coursera had in excess of 33 million enlisted clients and more than 2400 courses. Most courses last roughly three to nine weeks with one hour of video address week after week. The course educators normally give tests, activities, and companion evaluated tasks. Most courses have a last test of the year those outcomes in confirmation.
Availability
The courses are independent and are profited to you in entire after paying for the course. You can clear the course inside three days on the off chance that you have the guts since no one is controlling you. As of June 2017, Coursera had more than 200 on-request courses.
Pricing
You can watch Coursera videos free of charge, but you will not be able to access the graded assignments or even earn certificates at the end of the course unless you pay for the course. For 49 Dollars a month, you get access to all the graded assignments and are viable for a certificate upon course completion.
Coursera has dispatched a few specific courses intended to address the issues of specific individuals in the general public. For instance, in July 2016, Coursera dispatched an item known as Coursera For Business which trains advisors from noticeable Fortune 500 organizations, for example, L Óreal and Axis bank. The organization proceeded to dispatch Coursera for Governments and non-benefits in 2017.
Favorable circumstances of Coursera
• Specialized projects unlike most online courses suppliers, Coursera has planned specific projects that address the issues of specific foundations on the planet. For instance, Coursera For Business is intended for corporate business while Coursera for Governments and Nonprofits is intended to improve administration.
• Ivy-group Instructors-Most of the courses offered by Coursera have been made by Professors and teachers from driving organizations on the planet. You get information from the best minds on the planet at Coursera.
