BTS of #RWRBMovie: Alex's bisexuality
TZP via Glamour:
TZP: He's had sexual experiences with guys in the past, but he doesn't lead with it. I think it's not even top of mind. He's kissing girls at a New Year's party. And then Henry comes and kind of forces him to grow up and go, ‘Oh, I'm really into this.’ It turns into love, and his identity and family and relationships become even more important. I love that about Alex. Because who knows? If there's an alternative universe, who knows what would have happened if he didn't meet Henry? What if he didn't find a purpose or a higher path for himself other than just being a powerful politician?”
ML via Teen Vogue:
Alex's bisexuality is as important to who he is as Henry's homosexuality is.
This is the story of a young bisexual man discovering that, in addition to being into women, he also — he kind of knows that he's into guys. He admits freely to Nora that he has messed around with guys before, but he's never really had the need to identify until he meets Henry. One of the things that was important to me is that line that he has in that scene with Nora, that “I can wrap my head around being low level into guys, what I'm really confused about is being into Henry.” That for me was key. I needed the audience to hear that, that we're not dealing with a person who's — Alex isn’t a closet case. Alex isn't confused. Actually, if there's anything Alex is confused about, it’s “why am I hot for my sworn enemy?” That's a more interesting story to me. Alex's bisexuality finally needs to be identified in order to articulate his feelings for Henry.
ML via Variety:
In both the novel and the film, Prince Henry first kisses Alex on New Year’s Eve, but Alex’s reaction changed significantly in López’s adaptation. In the book, the kiss sends Alex into a profound realization of his bisexuality, something he’d never given himself time to consider amid his feverish devotion to his mother’s presidential campaign and his undergraduate studies at Georgetown University.  In the film, however, Alex is older — he appears to be in law school — and takes Henry’s kiss in stride, in so far as his attraction to men is concerned.  “It was born of my decision to cast actors who are older than the characters were in the book,” says López. “I really wanted there to be some genuine stakes and gravity for these characters. If they were too young, you could just explain this away as puppy love. I wanted this movie to be about that first real romance of your life, the first real love affair, the first real love.” Rather than tell a story about a kid in his early 20s who is plunged into uncertainty about his sexuality, López says he wanted Alex to be someone who had messed around with guys but “has yet to have a reason to really understand himself as bisexual.” The director continues, “I wanted Alex’s angst to not be about his sexuality. I wanted it to be focused on Henry.”
ML via Metro Weekly:
One of the things that I think was so beautiful about the story that Casey wrote, is that Alexis such a refreshing character because Alex is so clearly, very definitively bisexual, and that he might even be, I think, maybe that sociologists would term him as bisexual preferring women. He just happens to find himself really preferring Henry, and it surprises him. There's a scene in the movie with Nora, in which he says, "I can wrap my head around being into guys, what I'm really confused about is being into Henry." And I love that there is such an easy acceptance to Alex and who he's attracted to. And that for me was something so unusual about the story and that was so refreshing, and I wanted to bring that to life.
ML via Pink News:
“One of the thing I thought was really refreshing about the book, is the idea that room can be held for people who desire men and women and the journey that Alex takes,” López said. “I really appreciate that in the novel and we’ve kept it in the movie. There is space made for Alex as a bisexual character.”
TZP via Newsweek:
TZP: And Nick and I were always in deep discussions with [Robbie Taylor Hunt] about this because the intimacy part is so important because Alex's arc as a character as somebody that has only dated women in the past—maybe a couple guy hookups—to not liking Henry to getting kissed by Henry and then having a relationship. It's just like, excuse me, the different degrees of comfort that Alex starts to have, this needs to be represented in in a proper way. And Robbie was with us the whole way. And Matthew was there. It was always a group effort, which I really respected.

'Outlander' Star Sam Heughan Brings Sassenach Gin to the Hamptons
Tumblr media
5 minute 07/31/2023
Tumblr media
The new trend of stars behind the bar in the Hamptons continued at Sí Sí in East Hampton on Sunday, July 30 with a special, invite-only tasting from Scottish hunk and Outlander star Sam Heughan who was in town promoting his newly released Sassenach Wild Scottish Gin.
Heughan’s appearance comes after a series of celebrity liquor endorsements out east this summer, including Mark Wahlberg with Flecha Azul Tequila at Sí Sí in June and Bryan Cranston bartending his Dos Hombres mezcal at Kissaki two weeks later. Not to mention Neil Patrick Harris, who was scheduled to be slinging drinks at East Hampton’s nearby Sunset Harbor restaurant, also on Sunday, for Thomas Ashbourne Craft Spirits.
And who could forget a masked Kendall Jenner serving up her 818 Tequila at 75 Main and other hotspots in the summer of 2021?
Tumblr media
“This is our first time here, I’ve never spent time here but I want to come back and spend more time — it’s beautiful,” Heughan said on Sunday, adding, “Our gin is extremely refreshing, especially in a gin and tonic and in a lot of the cocktails that we are making here today. We just hope people enjoy it.”
The third in Heughan’s line of fine spirits, The Sassenach Wild Scottish Gin dropped June 15 and is described as perfectly capturing the fresh, balanced, and authentic taste of Scotland’s vibrant wild nature.
“I wanted to get it right. I wanted to create something that’s a representation of Scotland and where I’m from,” Heughan said. “We distilled every botanical individually — tried about 30 different botanicals, put them all together and finally came up with this mix of unique botanicals,” he continued. “They are all from Scotland [the botanicals] and the gin is where I’m from: southwest of Scotland. It’s made there — it’s essentially where I grew up, rural Scotland. Everything you would see walking through the Scottish landscape, walking through a glen or a forest you’d find in there.”
Tumblr media
“Everything in there is obviously from where I’m from. It’s very personal to me. I grew up there, and I remember my mum making rhubarb crumble or blackberry crumble. We got Heather in there which is obviously quintessentially Scottish. You’ll see a lot of Scotsmen wearing their bonnet in their hat, traditional dresses. It flowers every year — it’s a shrub that grows all over the mountains in Scotland.”
At sassenachspirits.com, the tasting notes go further to describe it:
“Journey through the glens, forests, and mountains of Scotland, and you’ll discover the wealth of unique botanicals that inspired Sam Heughan to craft a gin that perfectly captures Scotland’s abundant larder. Clean, fresh, and vibrant notes of apples, berries, and juniper are gently balanced with savory undertones of rhubarb and toasted oats. Pine and floral heather accents evoke the aromatic natural heritage of Sam’s Scottish homeland.”
For those missing the fun of Starz’s hit series Outlander, Heughan famously plays James Fraser, an 18th century Scottish highlander and lover of his English wife from hundreds of years in the future, Claire (Caitríona Balfe), who he affectionately calls “Sassenach.”
Outlander is currently in Season 7 and airing episodes weekly on Starz, though past seasons can be found on Netflix.

weekly? update (05 - 04 - 23)
I don't know how consistent I'll be with these but I personally like reading updates so maybe everyone else does too?
I haven't done anything different than what I've been doing:
patreon pov chapters: Orion's is done! It finished at 5.6k words but I think with a bit of editing, that'll be more. Discovering Visual Studio Code has made me much more efficient. I'm a messy writer and not organized at all so I tend to be a messy coder, so seeing my work on a timeline live is really helpful. Right now I'm working on Seven's balcony scene and that's already at 2k words and the first choice hasn't even come up yet 😅. Seven's is expectantly going to be quite bulky. Seven's inner-monologue tends to be a lot more emotion driven compared to Orion's and Sev dwells on many little moments often. One look from MC can have me writing a whole paragraph of how Seven feels about that lol. Writing the characters come very naturally now. Writing such a long, aimless paragraph about something like that for Orion feels wrong, but feels very appropriate for Seven.
Right now I have: Orion's office scene, Seven's balcony/hearth scene, and am still torn between Seb's diner or bar scene. Doing both is still in the cards, let's see how I feel! I'm sticking to the prologue for now, and then do rollouts for every chapter like that. I found these POVs really fun and low-stress since the scenes are pretty much laid out for me already. Anyway, for patreon, I think I'm going to start small and just do one tier and call it a day/throw all my extra content in that tier. No fuss for right now. I've gotten quite a bit of DMs asking for more information on bonus content! We'll see, we'll see.
the drabbles: are still happening, though I did hit a pause because Orion's drabble was so long. I started working on Maya's as a palette cleanser so that's fun.
chapter two: is going well! I wrote a late-night bus scene I wanted to write for a while, and it came out really well! This is when I can really just start putting MC in situations that lead to the routes and stuff so it's exciting. Also the competition begins sjssdubssd I have everything laid out in my head. G and Vic get more shine in chapter 2. Which is exciting! Writing the whole long scene with them and MC that I have in my head...I am Very Excited. Of course, it's a bit...
Anyway, that's all! It does look like I write a lot, but I get my energy to write through...writing. Basically, if I feel drained about one thing I work on something else and that helps me feel rejuvenated to get back to the other thing. It helps me keep my mind refreshed!
Hope you're having a good day! and keep...rocking? (that was so bad)(what is a story appropriate send off?)
Don't do anything Orion wouldn't do!

ARROWS AND ARRANGEMENTS
sakusa kiyoomi x f!reader arranged marriage au
rings that don’t fit series
+ word count: 1.5k
masterlist — previous | next
Tumblr media
SAKUSA KIYOOMI was late.
You almost cringed at the forced smile his mother was currently making, apologizing for her son’s tardiness. You smiled reassuringly at her, taking both of her hands in yours, the ring you had bought for yourself and said was the one from Kiyoomi glimmered in the rays of the sun, you say “it’s fine” and “i’m sure he just got caught up with something important” with a sweet tone. Sakusa Emiri easily falls for your act.
The squeal of a child diverts both of your attention to the two kids running behind you in golf gear. It was Sakusa Hatsu, Kiyoomi’s niece from his older brother, Hiko, and Chiyo, your younger cousin. They became instant best friends just 30 minutes ago, when they met. Now they were both covered in dirt, although you were quite unsure how they became of this, unless they were purposefully rolling on the ground.
Sakusa Emiri gasps, “Oh my, what happened to the both of you, Ine,” she calls her aid, who immediately comes to her side, “Go fetch some spare clothes and get them changed, Hatsu where’s your father?” Emiri frowns, then she faces you, “I am so sorry, my dear, I have to go deal with this for a little bit. I hope you don’t mind?”
“Not at all, the children need more help, I’ll wait here for Kiyoomi,” you say. Even though you want to go and explore for a bit. It isn’t every day you get to go to the Sakusa’s famous country house, it was beautiful, to say the least, you almost gaped at it when you arrived (you have a thing for fine architecture).
“No need, this outing was for the both of you! You should enjoy it, how about coming with me for refreshments? I know your Mother is inside as well,” she suggests. You do not want to see your Mother right now, “Or would you like to view the garden? I’m quite proud of it, I designed it myself.”
The plan was to look at a garden. So how did you end up in an archery range? It was quite simple you see. After Emiri left you to fret over the dirty children you ventured towards the back of the manor and spotted the garden, it was truly beautiful, but you honestly didn’t have much interest in flowers, unless it’s for picture taking. Until you saw the maze! A maze! Like woah! You looked around side to side if anyone was there before you ran towards the maze with childlike delight, it was by complete accident that you stumbled upon the hidden archery range. Maybe you can forgive your Mother for the outing they’ve apparently planned for months but only told you about the day before.
Now you were standing at the indicated line, a good distance from the target, the bow and arrow you took off the hook at the tent where all the equipment is placed in hand. You went into a proper stance, your back straight and your eyes on the target imagining it was Sakusa Kiyoomi’s obnoxiously pretty face (you were aware, you’re not blind) and his annoying way of making it look like you’re always begging for the scraps he would give you, with ease, you released the arrow, bull’s eye. You have been in a few archery competitions in the past, you had to give it up when you entered college, unfortunately, but you still paid a weekly visit to your own archery range.
“[l/n], you managed to stumble upon a place where you shouldn’t be.” A whisper in your ear made you jolt, you couldn’t mistake his voice as anyone else, you would recognize that cold, emotionless tone anywhere (you hear it often in your nightmares).
You turn towards the person who was behind you, you look up as you greet him, “Sakusa-san, pleased to finally see you here. Has your mother berated you enough for being late?” you smile sickenly at him, tucking your perfectly styled hair behind your ear.
“My mother told me you would be here, I figured you were nosy enough to discover this,” he ignored your earlier words and walked towards the equipment.
“Is this yours?” you ask, pertaining to the maze and the archery range in general.
“No. It’s my sister’s,” he simply says while he grabs another bow and arrow. You raise a brow at him when he stands beside you. “Let’s make a deal,” he states. “My parents want this marriage to happen. You and I obviously do not, unless you’re ridiculous enough to have feelings for me.”
You scoff at his claim, “Don’t insult me. Yes we both don’t want this marriage to happen, I thought that was clear the moment we met. What about it? From the start, we both don’t have a say in this,” you sigh as you grab another arrow.
“As I was saying, let’s make a deal,” he was clearly starting to get annoyed at you, geez it seems like you could just breathe and he would be irritated. “You wanted to be civil? Yes? I’m up to… attempting to be proper acquaintances. At least until I figure out a way to break off our engagement,” Sakusa releases an arrow and narrowly misses the centre, “All you have to do is act as the perfect fiancé my mother already deems you to be.”
“So your mother has been berating you,” you laugh and he glares at you, you assume you were correct. “And about this “deal” I don’t think there are any real benefits for me—” he cuts you off as you release another arrow, this one hitting bull's eye once again.
“I would be the one doing all the work in figuring out how to break the engagement, isn’t that beneficial enough for you?” he asks with a frown as he goes and grabs another arrow. You wait for him to take a stance and release it, and watch as it misses the centre again. Isn’t he a volleyball player?
“I didn’t ask for you to work on it alone and I would want nothing more than for our engagement to be broken off, but if it truly were to be broken my family is the one who’ll take most of the fall, not yours. If this is really going to be a “deal” then I want to place my own conditions,” you stand straight and stare directly into his eyes, letting him know you were serious, as much as you don’t want to be forced into a marriage with someone you don’t love, you put your family first, despite you not getting along with them most of the time.
Sakusa clenches his jaw, but nods, “Fine. What are your demands?”
“Our union is also a business partnership between our families, I still want the promised business deal to commence. Your family name is… important in our community, if you were to announce that you broke the engagement, I would be humiliated. I simply want you to make sure my reputation wouldn’t be ruined,” you would probably still be used as another wealthy family’s son’s fiancé, better to keep that reputation clean, you scoff in your head, although where would your family find better in-laws than the Sakusas? “And lastly, you have to act like we actually get along in front of them,” you notion your hands outside, “Okay? You’re not the only one who’s mother is berating you for— well in my case ‘not entrancing the sakusa heir’.” You leave out the insults to your appearance.
“At least you don’t have to hear your mother go on and on about how lovely and beautiful and perfect I am,” Sakusa puts a hand on his forehead, and sighs, “Fine, yes, I agree to your terms. I’ll make sure you won’t suffer when we break the engagement.”
“So we have an agreement, Sakusa-san?” you put your hand out for a handshake.
Sakusa looks down at your hand once and stares at it then back at you, “Yes, we do,” without making any movement to shake your hand.
You resist the urge to roll your eyes as you take your hand back. “We should work on your definition of civil,” you said with a tight smile.
“We should be inside now, the lunch is prepared,” he says after glancing at his watch. He goes and takes your gear from you and places it all back in the equipment tent. You go and run towards the targets to take the arrow you and Sakusa shot. Once finished, you hand it to him and watch as he puts it back neatly.
“You play professionally?” you were surprised when he was the one to make conversation. So he was truly going to try being acquaintances.
“Yes, I do, well, I used to,” you respond. He just nods in acknowledgment, not asking you to explain furthermore. “Why were you late?”
“I slept in, training went on a little later than expected,” he grunts as he walks ahead of you. Hm, you didn’t actually think he would respond properly, you thought he was just going to say it’s none of your business and move on. “Not like it’s any of your business.”
Ah, there it is.

The Yuri Manga Post
From when I first came across yuri manga a decade ago, followed by a long break from it due to the excruciating longing I’d experience reading about girls loving girls while not experiencing it myself, I’d been wanting to get back to reading yuri manga again. The loneliness hasn’t gone anywhere, but my love towards girls and girls loving girls has remained, and I’ve wanted to take part in it once more.
What got me started was Hanamonogatari by schwinn. People were hyping it up on twitter as old woman yuri, and not just yuri involving a grown adult, but an actual grandmother. So far only 2 chapters have been translated, so I don’t have a whole lot to say about the series. It’s a nice change of pace to read about someone in their 60′s, and it’s wholesome to see how they discover make-up as a new hobby and the salesperson as a new romantic interest. Life doesn’t end after your 20′s, y’all!
This inspired me to check out what else is popular these days, and one of the first works I saw recommended was Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete by Akihiro Ononaka, which is the polar-opposite to Hanamonogatari. It’s about a young girl who adores magical girls, but ends up becoming a villain forced to fight them. Her new alter-ego is sadistic and enjoys teasing and torturing her opponents. The manga feels like a combination of Douman Seiman’s works and Kill la Kill, the way it’s stylized with high contrasts and contains plenty of wacky, sexy comedy that takes things just a little too far for comfort. Personally I love it. It’s not a manga for everyone, and I wish it would start wrapping up soon after 9 volumes, before it starts repeating itself too much. It’s been one of the most refreshing manga I’ve read in a while, a funny parody with an amazing artstyle, even if it also contains some... questionable scenes.
Looking at more conventional works, I picked up Ki ni Natteru Hito ga Otoko ja Nakatta by Agu. It’s about a high school girl who falls for a guy as they bond over similar tastes in music, but as the title suggests, it turns out the guy’s actually a girl and her classmate (disguised in her casual/alternative style). The manga releases on twitter, and it’s been a fun exercise for me to keep up with it in Japanese. The twitter releases have also allowed Agu to use some colour, adding lime green to the traditional black and white, which makes the manga stand out and look really cool. The art itself is great too, both girls are super cute with their own distinctive styles. I like seeing how their relationship develops and I’m glad that it doesn’t dwell on the initial misunderstanding for too long. I will say that it’s a shame to be caught up with the story, since each weekly update is only 4 pages long and I’d rather read this in one go.
Next, I picked up Kakeochi Girl by Battan, since it was recent and renowned, with gorgeous covers. It’s about a woman who runs into her old high school sweetheart again after 10 years. While she never got over her, her old lover is now about to get married to a man, and have his baby. I wasn’t a huge fan of this manga. I thought it was sad how the main girl hadn’t been able to move on and felt stuck with her life for so long, while her romantic interest was stuck making bad decisions. I also didn’t like how the husband was portrayed as a villain of comical proportions. I think there’s value to the story which explores what comphet does to a woman, but it’s not something I care to read about when men become too central to the story. I also have conflicting feelings about the art. The covers, illustrations and some pages were absolutely gorgeous, and I love how Battan portrays different feelings, especially whenever something’s a little scary, but exciting, with tingles and sparks, but I’m not a huge fan of her style when it comes to the eyes and other facial features, which is a stylistic choice for her and a personal preference of mine.
I gave Battan another chance with Ane no Yuujin, since I couldn’t resist the enthralling, sensual cover. I liked it better than Kakeochi Girl, and it helped me appreciate the art more, thanks to her excellent portrayal of longing and joy. I was about to say that I liked the characters better too, but now that I think about it, I’m not sure I did. I think the fact that this was much shorter and focused on more characters masked it for me. I don’t think Battan’s works are for me, but I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who do love them for good reason!
I continued my yuri journey with another work I’d seen and heard much about, Sayonara Rose Garden by Dr. Pepperco. It’s about a Japanese maid who works for an English noblewoman, set in England in the early 1900′s. My first impression was that Dr. Pepperco is a genius for this setting and combination of aesthetics, with the Japanese maid dressing in kimono off-duty (!!!). The manga is beautifully drawn, and I enjoyed both main characters, but unfortunately a man had to get between them as well. It makes sense considering the setting, but it’s still not something I enjoy reading about, so my initial excitement was dulled out after the first volume. Overall it was a good read with great art, but because of my high expectations and slight disappointment, it didn’t end up as a favourite of mine.
After getting worried about not finding any more good yuri to read, I was happy to discover Ikemen Girl to Hakoiri Musume by Mochi au Lait and majoccoid. It’s another manga where one girl mistakes her classmate for a man and falls for them. Here the girl confesses right at the start, the other one accepts as a joke, and they end up dating while the misunderstandings are still at play. The girl who was mistaken for a man is incredibly sympathetic and a whole mood (TM), while her girlfriend is super bubbly and sweet. The manga is light-hearted and funny, and I wish I could find something similar to this, since it’s been one of my favorites.
Next up I read Yuunagi Marbled and Kimi Koi Limit by Momono Moto. Yuunagi Marbled was a tad bit on the edgy side, but still an okay read. Kimi Koi Limit had a real mess of a main character, which I enjoyed immensely, since I’ve been looking for something like that in yuri works. After all these stories about women who suddenly end up in lesbian relationships, or who have to hide the fact they want to be in them, it was refreshing to read about women who were open and assertive about their interests. I can’t say either of these works left a strong impression on me beyond that, but I found the girls cute and they were easy enough to read.
Then I went on to read Papa no Sexy Doll by Kajikawa Gaku. Look. The title is questionable. And the manga is indeed about a girl and her dad both having some sort of relationship with an android to get over the loss of the girls’ mother. I checked it out because I read something else by the same author, which left me curious about what else they’d done. Then I wanted to check what Papa no Sexy Doll could possibly be about, since it wasn’t marked as r-18. It was a pleasant surprise to see that it was yuri, and I actually got attached to the main character, who’s a young girl going through a rough patch with her crush/girlfriend and seeking solace (not necessarily sexual, but also that kind of comfort) from the titular doll. There are only a few chapters out and it’s still ongoing, but so far it’s been a nice story about loss and the pains of growing up. I can’t recommend it for everyone, but it’s been a pleasant surprise for sure.
To continue with more questionable works, I was excited to give Kyou wa Kanojo ga Inai kara by Iwami Kiyoko a try, based on the gorgeous art and a powerful line I randomly came across and had to fish out the source for. Like the title suggests, it’s about a girl in a lesbian relationship, but said girlfriend is still in the closet afraid to show any sort of affection towards her in public. Furthermore, she keeps ignoring her in favour of club activities, which leaves our main girl sad and lonely. A third girl shows up, and with a few pushes, the main girl starts two-timing her girlfriend. I love how horrible the girls are, and how easy it is to see what drove them to be the way they are. The art is to die for, and although I can’t recommend such a controversial topic to everyone, it’s been one of my favorites. The manga is still ongoing, with 4 volumes currently, and things are heating up!
Tumblr media
After reading all these popular and currently talked-about series, and not finding that much more looking though what’s popular, I discovered the greatness of Interest Stacks on MAL. There were a few collections with titles and covers that looked intriguing, and I started reading older works, with the oldest being Maya no Souretsu by Ichijo Yukari, published in 1972. I love the 70′s shoujo manga style, and the story was a tragic wild-ride about loss and revenge.
From there I kinda fell down the rabbit hole that was 90′s josei. Some of the yuri works I read were Love Vibes and Sheets no Sukima by Erica Sakurazawa. They are both about messy relationships that involve a lot of sex and cheating, and while love between women was central for both, there was more action between women and men. Because I read other josei works from the same era before these two, I came in thinking it was cool to see women be active and forward, so I didn’t mind it, but I do think Sheets no Sukima in particular suffered from not developing the relationship between the two women further. The ending was incredibly unsatisfying and abrupt, even if it could be seen as realistic and tragic in a way I usually love, because it reflects how uncertain and unsatisfying real life can be. I definitely preferred Love Vibes out of the two, where the feelings were more clear and reciprocated. Both works had a charming artstyle, and the girls were cute so it was nice reading them.
Back to the present day, although ready to take a journey into the past, I continued with Yume no Hashibashi by Sudou Yumi. It’s about two women in their mid-80′s who have been in love with each other since they were 14/15, but unable to be with each other due to various societal reasons. The manga starts with them in their old age and progresses backwards in time, with each chapter giving us a small glimpse of the choices they made and the feelings they had throughout different periods in their lives. It’s quite an interesting structure, and I loved seeing what drove the characters to make the decisions they did, when I already knew what they would lead to, and to see what prevented them from choosing to be with each other throughout the years. I wasn’t sure what to think of it based on the first two chapters, but I was crying as I reached the end. It was tragic, yet beautiful, and what hurts the most is how there are people out there who have gone through similar experiences. This was another favourite of mine and I highly recommend it, with the warning that it’s a heartbreaking read. I’d love to read more yuri by this mangaka, but unfortunately I couldn’t find much else.
Following these, I read Nettai Shoujo by Yoshitomi Akihito. I picked it up after reading Balance Policy, also by him, thanks to the nice cover art. Balance Policy contained some yuri as well, which would ordinarily be a nice bonus, except here it was paired with some of the most absurd ideas of how women work I’ve come across in a long time (weird stuff about periods etc.). Along with some other choices, it was quite obvious it was written by a man. I don’t think gender should prevent you from writing whatever, and I can even appreciate yuri that’s created for the male gaze, but oh man does it hurt when it’s combined with bad writing. Both Balance Policy and Nettai Shoujo got me though, since they depict summer in the countryside, which is one of my biggest weaknesses when it comes to manga settings, especially paired with queer themes. Nettai Shoujo is a collection of shorts around that theme, and it delivers, save for a couple instances where you can clearly tell it was written by a man, and a few “but I’m a girl” lines, which I didn’t know I’d come to dislike as much as I now do. In their defence, it was written in 2007, so I can’t be too mad about it.
It was only after reading Nettai Shoujo that I realised Yoshitomi Akihito is the man behind Blue Drop. I’ve read one or two installations from the series and I’ve always wanted to read through them all, so I’m now stuck in this weird love-hate relationship with Yoshitomi Akihito and his works. I’ve gotten quite busy, so I haven’t had the time to read more than the first (original) volume so far. I love the art and the sci-fi setting of lesbian aliens taking over Earth, but it feels aged and contains gratuitous fanservice, which I don’t enjoy. The girls are either undressing themselves at weird moments, too often, or it’s done to them in a way which feels exploitative. I’ll read and reread the rest of Blue Drop, and I’ll probably check out the anime too, but for now, I no longer have the time. Pride month is coming to an end too, so this shall be it for my big yuri manga review.
Thank you for taking the time to read any or all of this!
I hope you’ve been able to read some good yuri as well, and if you have any recommendations I’m happy to receive them!

Discover TCee's New World: The Save File - Henford on Bagley
Greetings Fellow Simmers! Today, we embark on a delightful journey through the charming locale of Henford-on-Bagley in my Family Playstyle Save File.
From the enchanting allure of Cordelia Falls to the refreshing currents of the River Bagley, the fusion of nature's elements makes Henford-on-Bagley not just a place to visit, but a haven to call home. Here, villagers embrace the rich heritage of the land while forming bonds with the furry and feathered denizens of the woods. Despite the occasional gossip among neighbors, there's no better place to cultivate a life attuned to nature's rhythms.
Our adventure begins in Finchwick, nestled beside the gentle flow of the River Bagley. This historic mill village thrives on its vibrant community spirit. The quaint stalls and welcoming pub at the heart of the village square offer a perfect setting for leisurely strolls and casual conversations. Don't miss the weekly village fair, where locals gather to showcase their talents and exchange the latest news. At The Gnome's Arms, a cozy pub favored by residents, one can enjoy lively discussions over a refreshing beverage. Nearby, three charming family homes await on Cobblebottom Street, offering a cozy retreat amid Finchwick's rustic charm.
Next, we journey to Old New Henford, a picturesque expanse of rolling hills and sprawling estates. Despite its identity crisis, this neighborhood exudes timeless elegance and community spirit. Wander through lush gardens, tend to crops and animals at one of the five spacious cottages, and take a refreshing dip in the swimmable River Bagley. With a community garden and a playground for the little ones, Old New Henford offers a tranquil retreat for families seeking a slower pace of life.
Our final destination is The Bramblewood, a sanctuary of natural beauty teeming with wildlife and wonder. Whether exploring hidden treasures, capturing the scenic beauty of Cordelia Falls on canvas, or simply basking in the serenity of the surroundings, The Bramblewood promises enchantment at every turn. Three cozy cottages offer a peaceful retreat amidst this magical landscape, while the Isle of Volpe Park beckons with its fishing spots, picnic areas, and lush greenery. Keep an eye out for rare collectibles and wildlife cared for by The Creature Keeper, who adds a touch of whimsy to this idyllic setting.
Thank you for joining me on this journey! Until next time, when we set sail for the romantic shores of Tartosa, happy simming!

I’m Glad My Mom Died- Jeanette McCurdy Review
Tumblr media
Image taken from Entertainment Weekly.
Rating: 5 / 5
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A heartbreaking and hilarious memoir by iCarly and Sam & Cat star Jennette McCurdy about her struggles as a former child actor-including eating disorders, addiction, and a complicated relationship with her overbearing mother-and how she retook control of her life.
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother's dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called "calorie restriction," eating little and weighing herself five times a day. She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, "Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn't tint hers?" She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income.
In I'm Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail-just as she chronicles what happens when the dream finally comes true. Cast in a new Nickelodeon series called iCarly, she is thrust into fame. Though Mom is ecstatic, emailing fan club moderators and getting on a first-name basis with the paparazzi ("Hi Gale!"), Jennette is riddled with anxiety, shame, and self-loathing, which manifest into eating disorders, addiction, and a series of unhealthy relationships. These issues only get worse when, soon after taking the lead in the iCarly spinoff Sam & Cat alongside Ariana Grande, her mother dies of cancer. Finally, after discovering therapy and quitting acting, Jennette embarks on recovery and decides for the first time in her life what she wants.
Told with refreshing candour and dark humour, I'm Glad My Mom Died is an inspiring story of resilience, independence, and the joy of shampooing your own hair.
McCurdy is probably best known for her role as Sam in the sitcom iCarly. After quitting acting, she turned to writing and created this amazing memoir that paints the real picture of her life as a child celebrity. In the beginning pages, an all-grown-up Jeanette McCurdy is watching her mother in a coma, while witnessing her three brothers whisper to her parent in hopes of waking her. When it’s the author's turn to address her mother, she tells her that her weight is 98 pounds- the goal her mother wanted McCurdy to reach.
This is the first sign of the emotional, physical, and mental abuse McCurdy suffered at the hands of her mother. This tells the reader what book they have signed up to read: a heartbreaking memoir about a woman trying to find a balance between violence and love.
Recently, abused celebrities, such as Paris Hilton, have taken the stand against the physical and mental abuse they endured growing up. This display of honesty shows their vulnerable side and ensures the reader's belief in their statements.
McCurdy is not stating I WAS ABUSED, she is attempting to navigate the difficulties she went through as a child and if she owes her mother anything. She includes her child-self’s P.O.V. and recounts her thoughts ‘I’m glad mom gets what she wants’, as it was earlier than dealing with the tantrums her mother threw regularly. Another heart-wrenching anecdote is when McCurdy realises she has hit puberty and her breasts are coming in, something which should be avoided to stop weight gain. She asked her mum to ‘stop the boobies coming’, and she helped her with the secrets of losing weight- calorie restriction which turned into a multitude of eating disorders as McCurdy got older. The author has a special talent for putting the reader in the child’s shoes, making them feel and see the whole innocence behind asking for a mother's help.
The author has taken time to remember the arduous stages of her life and translated that into an understandable text for the reader. This memoir is an absolute triumph and credit to McCurdy and an excellent read that I highly recommend.

3 ships: This changes like...all the time. Wave something shiny and pretty and vaguely antagonistic at me and I'm pretty much yours.
I rewatched Top Gun Maverick over the weekend and even though the point of The Hard Deck intro was to establish that they all knew each other carnally, I'm feeling very into Hangman/Phoenix at the moment because who doesn't love a pairing with two extremely attractive people being shitheads to each other while secretly wanting to bone?
I feel a flare up of "why didn't Grace and Daniel make out in Ready Or Not?" at least once a month so that's still a thing, I guess. Adam Brody deserves better than being a second tier character in those dumb Shazam movies.
I miss seeing Kyle Valenti's face every week for two minutes an episode on Roswell, New Mexico so I am still extremely bitter that my garbage CW show got cancelled (except that I genuinely believe the first season was stellar and not just because every music cue was from the 90s) and after four seasons of wanting someone to love Kyle Valenti back, we fiiiiiiiinally got Kyle and Isobel getting together in the last episode after a season of secret and not so secret pining only so they could have...one minute of screen time together in which they...didn't even kiss? THANKS FOR DEPRIVING ME OF ALL THE NICE THINGS. Am I ever going to stop being bitter over not getting to see them date or make out or do all the things that Lily Cowles probably put up on her vision board? NO, I WILL NOT. Get them booked and busy!!!!
1st ever ship: I can't think that far back! I'm sure there were many before this but off the top of my head, my first thought after "I'm too ancient to remember this" was that Tommy and Kimberly in Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers ruled. Remember the proverbial water cooler discussions in elementary school when they introduced the green ranger? SPECTACULAR. Ah, back in the days when we thought some dude using a flute to summon a robot dragon was the height of being a bad ass. (Side note: the Power Rangers movie with Dacre Montgomery and Naomi Scott doesn't get enough credit for being a really good time. They teased a sequel that will never happen because not enough people recognize a good reboot!!!)
last song: Last week, I was inexplicably listening to A LOT of Dave Matthews Band live performances. I guess the inexplicable bit is that last week Spotify's Discover Weekly decided to randomly put a Stevie Nicks cover of "Crash Into Me" on my playlist, which sent me into a DMB spiral - I know this is deeply uncool because anyone who was alive in the 90s heard that song at least once a day for YEARS on the radio so we are all hardwired to roll our eyes at them, but this spiral led me to this (in which the late great LeRoi Moore's sax solo is the closest I will ever come to understanding Damien Chazelle's obsession with jazz) and, even more spectacularly, this, which is worth even listening to in the background. But actually none of that is what I've been listening to more recently. I was on call the other night and the only thing that got me through 48 hours on 4 hours of sleep was Tina Turner, particularly "Nutbush City Limits."
currently reading: Patricia Highsmith's Strangers On A Train.
last movie: I watched Breathe (2014; dir. Mélanie Laurent) last night and it was SO GOOD! Highly recommend! It was also refreshing to watch a movie that wasn't two hours long. Bring back 90-100 minute movies!
currently consuming: I'm drinking black tea with milk.
currently watching: About to watch the pilot of Mayfair Witches even though Alexandra Daddario has the acting range of a beautiful block of wood, but I'm in the intersection of AMC's venn diagram of "bitches who miss Interview With The Vampire" and "bitches who miss Jack Huston's face."
currently craving: Lychees, but they're out of season :(
Tagging whoever wants to do it!

Dr Who: The War Games
At ten episodes, two (or three if you include the ‘teaser’ episode) episodes short of The Daleks’ Master Plan, The War Games is the second majorly epic story that Dr Who attempted. I split my rewatch over two nights, starting on 27 January 2023 and concluding on 28 January 2023.
It opens with our heroes, which is a refreshing change from the last few serials. I don’t mind the serials that start with new casts of characters setting up the story in which our heroes later take part, but it was getting a little bit tedious. The trio are getting along well, but after all of her bodysuits, it’s a bit weird seeing Zoe in a slightly too large trench coat.
The Doctor works out where and when they are, except he tells Jamie they’re in the past. Not for Jamie they’re not! 1917 is 171 years in Jamie's future. Anyway, we very quickly realise that things are not what they seem and this is not a return to the historical story.
In episode two, we hear what sounds very like a TARDIS dematerialisation sound. Not that much further into the tale, and the audience hears mention of Time Lords for the first time. Of course, as the serial continues, the audience discovers that the Doctor is a Time Lord! After five and a half years, the audience learns a little about who the Doctor is, and where he’s from, and why he left. I can only imagine what this must have been like watching in 1969…
Back to the War Games story, and the mystery unravels reasonably well. It is a dastardly plot, rooted in the misconception of Darwin’s theory of survival of the fittest. As in, only those who are strong survive (not those who have the genetic mutations that best fit a changing situation…). It’s great seeing a Black man, Rudolph Malcolm Walker CBE, playing a pivotal role for a few episodes, not least because in this serial it skewers the main idea of 'race'-based eugenics. Less good is what happens to the character.
The overall story is so driven by testosterone, though… I’ve heard that there was a direction brought in around about this time (it could have been a little later) about no women characters being allowed to be ‘killed’, which led to writers not writing women characters because without that risk to every character, thriller/adventure stories are dull. I don’t know the reasoning behind that directive, or the details, but it reminded me of the very real problem of everyone but the straight white cis man being more likely to be killed off. (rant starts) I don’t think the solution is ever to artificially protect the queers, the people of colour, disabled people, the women, and all permutations of human diversity in fiction, but just to make sure they are not the only victims. And stop defaulting heroes as straight white cis men. (rant over)
Moving along, gimp-like suits really were a thing in 1960s Dr Who. These security guards also act in a mesmerising motion of mime when they fight. Oddly disconcerting, but it does make them quite alien.
Mind control bobbins is another thing that pops up a lot in Dr Who, especially during the late 1960s and through the 1970s. There’s some subtle stuff about who of humans are less susceptible to mind control. Like bandits…
The Wars Games actually isn’t as repetitive as its reputation suggests. What repetition exists is there only so a weekly audience can keep up. Ten episodes is a slog to get through in one go, but splitting it in two parts is okay. The Time Lord stuff really must have been astonishing to the audience in 1969, as well as the doom laden feel of the last few episodes. The farewells to Jamie and Zoe are moving. They don’t quite get the Donna Noble treatment, but nearly. The regeneration has more to it than the first one we saw at the end of The Tenth Planet.
Salut, Patrick Troughton and the black and white part of Dr Who. It’s been fascinating to me to watch how television production shifted as technology improved. Also to see the changes in direction taken by the show in terms of stories told and characters portrayed.

Hey! I’m writing a web-novel!
For a while now, I’ve been messing around with the idea of writing my own web novel. After doing a few chapters and dragging my heels for a couple months, I decided to take the plunge and just start posting my work on Wattpad. While I know Wattpad isn’t the BEST place for original fiction, what matters to me is that I have an easy outlet to post my work, and a weekly schedule of posting to keep me writing consistently, as I’m the type of bitch who can’t get anything done unless there’s a fire under my ass. If anyone wants to suggest more places for original fiction, I’d be game. Eventually I want to post it on my own website, but I’ll hold off on that for now. I decided I wanted to write a story that served as both a love-letter and a critique of the isekai genre in its presentation, as it’s one that I grew up with (digimon adventure was my first isekai at the ripe age of what, five? six?) and like to partake in from time to time. One trope I knew I wanted to tackle was the gender-bending aspect a lot of modern isekai like to do with their protagonists. As a trans-woman, I felt that a more respectful and trans positive take on a situation like that would be refreshing and interesting.
The synopsis is as follows:
'No good deed goes unpunished', as the saying goes. It's a lesson we all learn when an act of kindness leads to our own misery. When it comes to such misery, however, none know this bitter feeling better than Alex Ripley. All it took was one selfless act to tarnish his reputation. One kindness that stole his future, and eventually lead to him meeting his end. Instead of closing his eyes for a final time, he found himself reincarnated in a new, fantastical world none the worse for wear. There was one small difference, however... Alex was no longer a man, but a woman instead. With this second chance, will the lessons from her last life dictate the path she walks? Or will she discover things about herself and this brave new world she never thought to imagine?
On that note, if anyone wants to read NO GOOD DEED, the first three chapters are out now! https://www.wattpad.com/story/338228009-no-good-deed

I am going to start a brand new series which is the Anime Review. However, there are some animes I have watched a long time ago I may have forgotten some of the details. I know I can rewatch them but I don’t want to put myself through it again... Think the most I would do is probably watch some clips on YouTube.
I will try to cover as many anime as I could remember watching though it is inevitable that I will miss some. I may have a lot of clips to watch on YouTube just to refresh my memory.
If the anime is running by seasons, then I will most likely be writing them by seasons. But because I have a whole list to write, the anime which I have watched will have all of its seasons clustered together at the time of writing. If a new season appears after I have written a review, that particular season will be written separately.
Do note that such posts would definitely have 🚨Spoilers🚨
To start off the list, let’s go with the anime which has just completed its latest season, Spy x Family
Tumblr media
(Picture Source: Showbiz Cheat Sheet thru’ Google Image Search)
The story is about a spy, Loid Forger, who works behind the scenes to try and prevent a war brewing to maintain the peace of the country. In order for him to carry out the mission, he adopts a child with telepathy abilities, Anya, and invited an assassin, Yor, to live with him to create an image of family.
The show provides a look at the hilarious attempts of each individual of the Forger family in doing their best to carry out their respective missions while hiding their deepest darkest secrets (Loid being a spy, Anya having telepathic abilities, and Yor being an assassin).
The show was fun to watch and I looked forward to the weekly updates. However, when the second season came, I was kind of disappointed.
Tumblr media
(Picture Source: MyAnimeList.net thru’ Google Image Search)
The second season still has its funny moments but I feel like the comedy of the show has reduced significantly. I am not sure if that was intentional because I did not read the manga.
But I highly doubt I would stash this anime away because I am genuinely curious about a few things.
1️⃣ Will Loid and Yor’s fake marraige become a real one?
2️⃣ When will Loid and Yor discover each other’s secret identity (including Anya)?
3️⃣ Will Damian come forth and confess his feelings to Anya?
4️⃣ Will there be a chance for Yuri to discover Loid’s identity as a spy?
All of these questions are what keeps me waiting for a new season. Hopefully there will be one since there are anime series known to stop producing animated versions for various reasons. I hope the anime’s success will keep it going.

Week 3 in Prague: From Czech Cheers to English Beers
Ah, Prague, you've started to feel like home—albeit a home where I occasionally still get lost and mispronounce everything. But before we dive into the heartwarming tale of settling in, let's talk about my weekend escapade to London, because, why not add a bit of British flavor (if that even exists) to this Czech adventure?
London's Lessons: More Than Just an Accent Adjustment The Football Phenomenon: Attending the Fulham vs. Aston Villa match was an experience of a lifetime for me and a wild intro into British sports culture. Having played football (soccer) my whole life, it was always my dream to go to an English Premier League match. The unison of chants, the shared groans of despair, and the collective leap of joy with every goal—it's a camaraderie that transcends the game. And let's not forget the pre-game rituals in local pubs, where the air is thick with anticipation and ale. My takeaway? Football isn't just a sport in the UK; it's a religion, and match day is the weekly service.
The Nightlife Navigations: London's clubs and bars are a testament to the city's diverse cultural tapestry. Each venue, with its own vibe and tribe, felt like hopping from one continent to another. From the electric energy of Soho to the laid-back charm of Shoreditch, London after dark is a world unto itself. But here's a pro tip: keep an eye on the tube's closing time unless you fancy a midnight marathon back to your place. Craziest part about being there, however, was that by the end, we could not wait to come back “home” to Prague. Strange how we associate a country where we understand 99% less with “home”, over an alternative where we understand everything.
PRO TIP: Make sure to budget well (if you are on one). I don’t have a strict one but I did create a spreadsheet to see how much I spent in London, and it was a lot more than I expected. I got spoiled taking Ubers in Prague for like a couple of dollars everywhere, needless to say, that is not the case in London.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back to Prague: Feeling Like a Local (Sort of) Returning to Prague was like coming back to a familiar book where you're still discovering new chapters. The city's charm isn't just in its postcard-perfect Old Town; it's in the everyday moments and the small victories, like successfully ordering coffee in Czech without accidentally buying a farm animal. I've started to say "Dobrý den" (Good day) with less hesitation and "Děkuji" (Thank you) with more confidence. And yes, I still celebrate when the tram goes in the direction I intended.
Tip: Embrace the small wins. Every correct tram stop or successfully navigated grocery store trip is a step closer to feeling at home.
The Train Bar and an Unexpected Client Meeting: This week wasn't just about cultural assimilation; it also included a serendipitous professional twist. We visited the Train Bar—a quirky spot where the novelty of having drinks delivered by model trains never wears off. Seeing trains deliver our food and beer sparked the inner child in me which felt great. Earlier that day, we actually met with Operator ICT, a client for one of our class projects. Discussing project details that will take a whole semester to implement added a real aspect to school but surprisingly, it felt refreshing to actually work on something tangible.
Tip: When meeting with Czech people, a respectful "Dobrý den" can set a positive tone, no matter where you are. A lot of colloquial English phrases are not understood here so make sure to know your audience when you talk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Settling In: The Comfort in the Chaos As I navigate my third week, Prague's maze-like streets and tongue-twister language have started to feel less daunting. Finding a favorite café, jogging through Petřín Park, or just watching the sunset over the Charles Bridge, I'm reminded that home isn't just a place; it's the feeling of being part of something. Whether it's the historical allure of Prague or the bustling energy of London, each city offers a unique tapestry of experiences. Something else I have gotten used to is balancing going out on all nights of the week to make the most of your time, especially if you are traveling on the weekends. Since I was gone to London from Thursday-Sunday, it made my Monday-Wednesday a lot more important here, which meant going out those nights as well. Whether it’s a chill night out at a bar or an intense clubbing spree, learning to make the most of my moments here has been probably the biggest change here. Another thing my roommates and I had to change was our living habits. We have cleaners who come to our apartment every week to take care of the general cleaning the apartment needs, but ours was so trashed that even the cleaners had to report us to IFSA. It really sucks when your apartment is the spot to pregame and all the mess accumulates throughout the week. We received an email from the program advisors stating we had to be better about cleaning up our mess which was totally fair. Since then we’ve made a more conscious effort to take out the trash and clean dishes regularly rather than wait until the cleaners come to do it.
Tip: Make a local café or spot your "go-to." It's these little anchors that transform a city from a place you live in to a place you belong to.
Wrapping Up: From Prague to London and Back This week was about blending the familiar with the new, from the cobblestones of Prague to the double-decker buses of London. It's a reminder that studying abroad isn't just about seeing new places; it's about seeing yourself in new situations, growing, learning, and, of course, trying to pronounce "Pražský hrad" without sounding like you're casting a spell.
Until next time, keep exploring, keep learning, and maybe, just maybe, keep a Czech phrasebook handy.
Na shledanou for now, Rachit Khandelwal
