Sketch compilation from the last year and a half while I wrote the final third of my FMA03 fanfic.  The fic follows Ed and Al after they get on their trains at the end of ep51 and a completely different story happens.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💗
This took me the whole day to respond to, because I usually cringe at the idea of rereading my own writing lmao. Okay, in no particular order:
come from the holy fire
I would like to study Roy Mustang under a microscope, but this fic is the closest I'll get. The argument he has with Hughes in the second chapter is one of my favourite bits of dialogue I've ever written.
in the lost myth of true love
I generally write the messier, damaged sides to Riza and Roy, so writing something much more tender was a nice change of pace. Their conversation about choices had floated around in my head for a while before I wrote it down, and I like the way it turned out.
there's nothing you can do (it's already been done)
It's very possible that this is my favourite fanfic of my own. Kimblee is such a weird character to write, but in such a rewarding way. I have a headcanon that that Riza was under Kimblee's command during the war, and would have stayed that way if he hadn't gone to prison (I will definitely return to this thought one day). Writing this and going really, really dark while also staying true to canon was very fun. Also, I wrote this not too long after getting into Ethel Cain, and it shows lmao.
breathe, darling, breathe in deep for me
Surprise, not FMA! I wrote this in 2018, but it remains one of my favourites. Someone asked me to write something like this way back in my ff.net days as a kid (2009ish), so when I started writing Deltora Quest again, it was a topic that I really wanted to tackle. Jasmine has been a favourite character of mine for, my god, around twenty years?? I like to think that my greatest strength as a writer is characterisation, and I really think I did right by Jasmine in this.
we'll go down together
This one is very short, but I think it really captures the way I personally view Roy and Riza, especially during the war. It was also adapted in to a fantastically well done podfic, which was very flattering.

My Favourite Fanfics
2022 was the year I discovered fanfiction that I enjoyed reading, and I thought I'd share my mountain of fics that really stood out to me!
Jeeves and Wooster
Green Ice - Jeeves and Wooster & Lord Peter Wimsey
I'm hesitant to explain why I like this fic so much. It was 'spoiled' for me before I read it, and I wonder what the experience would have been like if I hadn't known where it was going ahead of time. So, perhaps I'll just say that it uses Bertie Wooster's position as possible unreliable narrator to add a really interesting dimension to his character and explore an aspect of note about the Jeeves and Wooster universe, and does so within a rip-roaring mystery which feels very authentic. AND Peter Wimsey is in it!
The War of the Worlds and All That - Jeeves and Wooster
In which Jeeves and Wooster thwart an alien invasion. Which is an utterly bonkers idea, somehow pulled off because said invasion hinges around the exact kind of dilemma which is entirely commonplace in Bertie Wooster's life. I was absolutely hooting with laughter throughout this whole thing.
Sherlock Holmes
The Craven Hive - Meticulously researched and textually deep historical pastiche with some absolutely beautiful character moments. Dr Watson returns from his war service and decides to assist in the treatment of shellshocked soliders. Of course when danger is at hand, he has to call in his old friend...
The Unsinkable Ship - Another meticulously researched piece. Holmes and Watson end up on board the Titanic. Much of the work is the pair going around exploring the ship, talking to each other and their fellow passengers (often real people), and dealing with navigating retirement together. They have such an old married couple vibe in this. Oh, and then the ship gets struck by an iceberg.
The Afterlife of Dr John H Watson - Good grief thing thing is absolute exquisite torture and I've read it I don't know how many times. Has entirely changed how I read 'The Blanched Soldier' and 'The Lion's Mane'. I get very very bored at 'kissy stuff' in stories, but the pivotal kiss in this GOT ME BAD.
The Taste of Truth - Delicious dark fantasy. If Neil Gaiman had written it, it would have won a Nebula.
Grit in the Sensor - Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century - Ok ok just hear me out on this one.... Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century is a very fun but silly Saturday Morning Cartoon which had a wealth of absolutely dynamite sci-fi concepts bubbling below the surface which it didn't ever address. One of these is that there is a robot who appears to have gained sentience by reading Watson's work. This fic unpacks that concept in a beautiful heartfelt way. It's narrated from Robot Watson's point of view, which leads to a delightful mixture of 19th century patois with machine logic.
Fullmetal Alchemist
Of Skulls and Secrets - I really enjoy it when people bring in the very bonkers real life history of alchemy into FMA stories, and this piece honestly feels like it could have been an extra chapter or OVA.
FMA Beyond - I don't know what to tell you. It's like Hiromu Arakawa wrote and illustrated more Fullmetal Alchemist. I got tingles when I started reading it. It gets Al right, which is always important to me :D
Others
Ciel D'Oro - The Name of the Rose
I can't believe somebody wrote a very decent sequel to The Name of the Rose and it's on Ao3 and you can read it for free.
Mister Vimes'd Go Spare - Discworld
If you were to tell me that this was actually written by Terry Pratchett, I would believe you. In my heart, this is what happened to Sam Vimes in the end.
A Man from the Stars - Doctor Who
Officially set my mind to rest about poor Joan Redfern.
Sing Down the Stars - The Chronicles of Narnia
Very beautiful reflection on Rilian from The Silver Chair ***
That's it for now! I'm sure I'll keep adding to this as I read more stuff :D

🍬🌻🔮 for the fanfic asks! :) hope you’re having a great day!! 🥰
I almost lost a fight with an extremely stubborn jar lid this morning, so it’s definitely been A Day! From Fanfic Writer Ask Game
Do you write for multiple fandoms? If yes, what is your favourite fic of yours for each fandom?
Actively, no! I tend to only write in one fandom at a time, although sometimes I dabble in multiple at once.
I definitely have written in multiple fandoms over the years. I would say I’m most well known for my Trek, Naruto, and One Piece fic. Other fandoms I’ve only dabbled in once or twice, including Haikyuu, Star Wars, FMA, Final Fantasy…
So, to avoid this being an exhaustive list, I’ll just have a think for those three. Hm…
For Naruto, I think HIEROPHANT was my magnum opus. I definitely feel like it’s the best written fic of the bunch. It’s an AU where Kakashi gets a byakugan instead of a sharingan. I drew up a whole Hyuga family tree and made a bunch of OCs, most of which never appeared in the fic. That was fun! I really enjoy writing complicated family relationships.
For Trek, it has to be the one with the wife, which I know is a fic a lot of people will not read. It was extremely self indulgent and I still think about this ‘verse all the time. I wrote it for me. Purely, for myself.
For One Piece… god. I have no idea. It’s been a few years and I have a sieve for a brain. I remember having a lot of fun writing into flame but I think if I re-read it now, it would all be new to me.
Which leads into the next question!
How often do you read your own fics?
I don’t… tend to. Especially my older stuff - anything older than a couple of months may as well not exist in my brain lol. I think this is partly because my writing is constantly improving and looking back at older works makes me notice all of the things I could have done better. And partly I think I just… am not sentimental about fic at all. I’ve been known to remove works from ao3. I have no attachment to them lol, yes, even Hotspur, which I’ve just finished after 8 months of writing! Is that weird?
Sometimes, I get comments on really old stuff which I really appreciate, but I often don’t remember the fic at all. Once, I was trawling through ao3 in a tag and I found a fic and started reading it and it was weirdly nostalgic? So I scrolled up and I’d written it lmaoo. I had NO memory of doing so. Not the wildest thing to ever happen to me on ao3, but it’s up there.
Any advice for writers working through burnout or writer’s block?
Oh man. I get writer’s block all the time and, for me at least, it’s usually a sign that I need a break. And so I take heed! I try not to stress too much because I know I will get back into writing when I’m ready. I mean, I can’t imagine not writing you know, and if you are also like that, that writing is a part of you, then the writer’s block will pass. I get mini writer’s block every time I finish something - it’s like my brain’s giving me a moment to process haha
But some other advice is, if you still want to write, write something else. Stop whatever you’re doing and pick up something new. I find I get hit by writer’s block less if I’m more flexible about switching between fics or projects - I can use the time stuck on one fic to work on the other. Maybe that will work for you!

B3. What’s the best device to read on (phone, laptop, tablet…)? Why? oh definitely my phone. i don't really use my ipad for anything except schoolwork and reading fanfic on my laptop is insane, anyone could walk by at any time and also the screen is just so wide???
B7. Which character is your favourite to read about? Why? as far as the fandoms we share go, i think you already know 😏
D8. Which fandoms do you read fic for? currently i've been rereading fics for fma, spy x family, and fire emblem awakening/fates! but i read for basically anything i've ever posted about on any of my blogs before, my ao3 bookmarks are an ever changing library so i'm always going back to old fandoms to collect new fics

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Thanks for the tag @candyskiez! I am…bad at this internet thing, so I'm not sure who to tag. Anyone who wants to can jump in.
1. How many fics do you have on Ao3?
46 total so far. 38 are fanfictions and 8 are original works but I'm going to be ignoring the latter from this point onwards where possible.
2. What's your total Ao3 word count?
271,996. The majority of that is because of "Above Board." That series was not what I expected to write at the time, but 2020 was…odd.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Good question. I don't know. Whatever I am feeling in the moment, mostly.
In the past I've written for Hogan's Heroes and Fullmetal Alchemist. Recently I've finished a sizeable Star Trek Next Gen series. I am currently working on a number of Nimona fanfics and I expect to return to Leverage at some point after that. Beyond that, couldn't say.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
"Trust Fall", "Golf Blues", "Inventory", "Only the Best", and "Challenges in Rhetoric". A mix of Leverage and FMA. Somehow I'm not surprised to find the Waterworld story hasn't gotten a lot of kudos, lol. Glad to see "Inventory" up there, it was a lot of fun to write. Outsider POV usually is.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try really hard to. I adore getting comments, and I want to communicate that, but I can start to overthink my reply and spiral over them pretty easy.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Uhhh…. Gonna have to give that one to either "Lies Will Out" or "Confessions" I think, even though "Lies Will Out" has a hopeful final scene. (Both Star Trek Next Gen)
"Love Like a Rain" (Nimona 2023) is a strong contender, but with the context of the movie, it gets resolved pretty much instantly and ends well. "Bones on Bones" (Waterworld 1995) is also a contender but is more impersonal over all.
Getting a proper resolution from "Lies Will Out" takes all 54K of "Wheat with the Chaff," and "Confessions" is a straight up tragedy.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
"we are such vicious, wild things" is very domestic in spite of the title, probably that one. Runner up is "Trust Fall." I love my OT3's it seems.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not yet. I did start on ffn though, and the commenting etiquette there would be considered rude on Ao3.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I only wrote some recently, and I haven't posted any as of yet. Generally not my thing, but this one grew a plot I'm excited about. What can you do?
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I write them, but I don't post them, because I've never actually finished one. I was working on an FMA x Star Wars Prequels thing for a while, got a third of the way through and scrapped it, though that isn't the craziest one. That's probably the unfinished FMA x Megamind Community Theatre AU I want to finish someday.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No. Would love if it happened but it's very unlikely to.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No. Love brainstorming with people, hate actually writing with people. I'm a little bit of a control freak about the execution.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
How dare you make me pick one. I'm going to say Leverage OT3, but really it's tied between Goldenheart and Royai.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Question 18 made me think of it--Tower of Babble.
I started a Next Gen fic where the universal translator goes off-line. I planned out the personnel dynamics based on who spoke what and the fact that the computer would revert to Vulcan and we see no Vulcans on the Enterprise D. I was going to have Geordi speak Creole specifically to fuck with Picard. I was going to have Riker and Barclay both speak German. Worf would speak Russian and people would reply to him in tourist Klingon with absolutely no idea what he just said. It was going to be gold but also I can't just use google translate for the whole thing. I really only speak French and English, which does mean I can fake competence for a few different languages if I do my research well, but that's really only the romance languages and…well. I just don't think it's happening, unfortunately, as cool as it would be. Idea is free to a good home, doesn't have to be Next Gen or even Star Trek, would love to see it if someone makes it.
16. What's your writing strengths?
I have gotten a lot of compliments for getting character voice right and for providing an emotional journey, so…those. I think I manage to balance OCs pretty well so that they stay secondary characters at most, and that I'm a fair hand at tension.
17. What's your writing weaknesses?
I am allergic to mystery plots. Hate them. Loathe them. Don't want to write them ever, ever, ever. I will give you dramatic irony all day every day, but mysteries are just. The worst. I don't actually know if I could be good at them because I have honestly never tried.
Fight scenes also, because fight scenes are of course really hard to write and I always make the mistake of making my characters competent so that I have to actually do choreography and not just Vibes. Uggggghhhhh.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I have done it in some of my fics, I usually try to do it in a way that the meaning can be intuited easily and it doesn't detract from the fic if you don't know it, or so that the translation is provided by the characters in the main body if it is plot relevant.
Mad respect for people who use it to drive the plot and do full translations in their end notes or hover text, you are incredible and I love you.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Hogan's Heroes. In 2018, I'm pretty sure. As far as I know that fandom still does like 3-5 annual events over on ffn. They're cool.
20. Favorite fic you've ever written?
Noooooo I have to pick??? I love them all for different reasons.
If I have to pick, then probably "Build Them Up, Let Them Go." Outsider POV is always a delight. I would consider saying "Wheat with the Chaff" but it was a COMPLETE AND UTTER BITCH TO WRITE, so no, no it doesn't get to be my favourite. :) Ever. :)
"Trust Fall" is a very solid runner up though.
By the time I finish it, I think some of the other stories in the "Love Like" series are probably going to jump ahead of these. I am still deeply in love with the character dynamics in Nimona.
My Ao3, if you're interested in an eclectic mix.

1, 2, and 3 for the fanfic asks please! 💕
Thank you!! 💜💜💜
Do you daydream a lot before you write, or go for it as soon as the ideas strike?
Yes.
Uh, I daydream a lot. At any stage, before, during and after writing, the mental cinema is 24/7. I will definitely write down the ideas as soon as they come, but yeah, usually i only start writing once i've thoroughly marinated it in my head, unless it's something time sensitive or particularly persistent.
2. Where do you get your fic ideas?
Good question. A lot of the time it's just catching a glimpse of something somewhere, a post about a trope or a quote or an image and i'll think "i have to write something like that sometime". Sometimes it's the result of ruminating specifically on canon or the blorbos, looking at my favourite scenes or the ones that have the most potential and thinking about how they could change or what else there might be that we didn't see. Sometimes it's just a desire to see the exact flavour of angst that I'm craving. And rarely, they come to me in my sleep, like the idea for TGU way back when or Alphonse Middle Name Elric did.
3. Do you share your fic ideas, or do you keep them to yourself?
Oh man. I usually keep them to myself until I post them, only talking about them to maybe a couple of people or any betas if applicable. I would LOVE to share them more, just throw out ideas and go !!! about them with people, share snippets etc etc. I just always feel like I'm bothering people with that? Doing it publicly, I get the impression no one's particularly interested (my FMA taglist currently has one person on it, ahahh....) and. Back when I was active in the YOI fandom I had Discord servers and fandom friends where I could go and share things I was excited about, but with FMA right now I don't really have anyone who's actively into it the way I am that I feel comfortable showering with my thoughts. So I mostly keep them to myself while I write them and then hope someone will care when I post it.
Admittedly, if I talked about it more, I might get more people curious about it too, who might then go ahead and read it later. But I just. don't wanna bother people.

4. Do you have any OCs? Do you have a story for them?
No, not really! When I write fanfic, I get attached to characters—not the world or even the narrative. Inventing my own characters is too much work! (Unless of course we’re talking about the original fic I wrote as a teenager, but I don’t speak of that. It was truly one of the…things I wrote.)
10. Top three favourite fic tropes.
Ooh, this one’s hard! What counts as a “trope”? I don’t particularly get excited about things like “and there was only one BED!” or “enemies to lovers.” Anything is interesting to me if it’s done well.
I’m a huge fan of hurt/comfort, so anything to do with that is an automatic yes. Nonlinear storytelling is fun—again, when it’s done well. We get to put the pieces together as they’re handed to us. Oh! And Torture the Cinnamon Roll. That’s a great one. Goes along with hurt/comfort, but there doesn’t HAVE to be comfort. Sometimes there can just be pain, and that’s okay 😈
17. Past or present tense? Why?
Typically past—for no real reason, but it’s my default. Sometimes a piece works better in present tense, but even when I’m writing like that I’ll slip back into past tense if I’m not careful.
26. What would you describe as OOC?
It depends on the character, but nothing bugs me more than fanfic/fanon insisting characters have a relationship they…fundamentally don’t have. Like, a character “adopting” another as their pseudo-child when the canon Does Not Support that at all (looking at you, parental!Roy fans) or two characters having this deep, homoerotic, chemistry-wrought friendship when in reality they’re basically work friends who argue a lot (*cough*destiel*cough*). But it does depend—some authors are so talented that they can stretch relationships and make them not seem OOC. It’s subjective.
On another note, I have to be able to hear characters’ dialogue in their voices. There’s something grating about words not fitting in a character’s mouth.
39. Wildest AU scenario you have written?
Would that be the boyking AU? Maybe—although I’ve come up with lots of AUs. Once I invented an entire pseudo-medieval world for the characters of BBC Merlin to play around in. It was…I don’t suppose it was very wild.
I did have an idea—never wrote it, because the execution would be too bonkers and entirely too difficult. A Dark-style crossover of FMA 03 and FMAB, in which two versions of Ed and Al are trapped in an endless loop of time. Some things are the same, some things are not. But in spite of the universe-breaking happenstances that brought them together, they are together—and they’ll stay that way forever. (Or will they?)
(If you have never watch Dark, go do it right now—it’s on Netflix and it’s awesome!)

For the fanfic asks - 1 and 13
Also are you looking for fma fic recs?
Hi anon, thanks for asking!
1 | What’s a fic with your favourite trope?
There’s too many due to the amount of fanfic I read. I love so many tropes but I am a big fan of Enemies-To-Friends-To Lovers and AUs (full AUs or Canon Divergence), so I’m going to put 2 fics here. First one is A Name That You’ll Remember by Heronfem and the AU one that’s very well known, Yesterday Upon The Stair by PitViperOfDoom (seriously guys, I can’t recommend this one enough) also yeah both are MHA fics sue me
13 | What’s the fic you instantly go to read when you see it’s been updated?
Carry Them To The Sky by WiEGoP!! Funny story about this one: For a long time I just accepted that it wasn’t going to get updated anymore then one night I told my friend that I was sad it hadn’t gotten updated and probably wouldn’t anymore and it got updated the very next day. I also definitely recommend this one for the AOT & Levi Fans (it’s a pre-canon fic).
Also YES, ANON! Yes, yes, yes! I would love some FMA fic recommendations!! I’m currently only reading post Brotherhood and Manga since I’m not yet finished the 2003 version so I will take ‘03 version recommendations but they won’t get read until I’m done watching that one. And again, yes of course I would love FMA fic recommendations!!

I know you know this and I don't quite know how to word this, but like. You aren't doing anything wrong. The internet is full of websites full of algorithms that fill everyone's feeds with stuff that's been focus-tested to Already be popular to keep people scrolling, it's just. So Hard to get people to look at anything new, the internet is just Like That in a lot of ways. Believe me when I say that I really know where you're coming from, but you really really deserve that recognition and you will get there - I'm sorry the internet can be Shit, but your writing will get in front of the people it should, regardless of all the bollocks <3
this is the thing!!! the horrifically written FMA fanfic I published weekly when I was 15 on FF.net got a solid 50ish consistent readers for each chapter!! and the thing is that AO3 doesn't have an algoritm, it's chronological and tag-based, as FF.net was, but! man! if I am not comparing myself to that shit-show!!!
I don't want to be doing the legwork, I want people I have never fucking met, even one person, to be like "this is good, read this", but there is this awful vicious circle in fanfic at the moment, which is that no one is reading fucking WIPs anymore. people filter out unfinished stuff. which is whatever but I am not going to piss into the void I will send my mum my google doc in that case since she has my mobile number and will harass me for it.
I AM VERY BITTER BECAUSE MY FAVOURITE FANFIC HAS BEEN UNFINISHED SINCE LIKE 2016. THE AUTHOR UPDATES LIKE ONCE A YEAR. READ WIPS OR WE ARE NOT GOING TO BOTHER FUCKING UPDATING THEM YOU MORONS.

Marelle is actually coming along well
so. here’s a lil scene
He didn’t remember exactly where the place had been located, but had a vague mental map pointing out landmarks and whatnot like a broken compass spinning drunkenly. He followed intuition because the worst thing that would happen is he couldn’t find it and would trudge back to the inn with a little hint of disappointment.
Past experience warned him that it could end up far, far worse. Last time he was out past the time he should’ve been made him an unwilling witness to casual execution.
He shook himself and pushing the memories as far down as they would go, crammed into a tiny bottle with a screw top lid and maybe a padlock for good measure. They’re burst out eventually, glass and shrapnel in spades, but for now he just wanted some peace.
Nothing would happen. The world turned.
Edward ran his hand along the brickwork as it turned into an iron fence, lacing a pretty looking estate. Two people danced by the light of a lamp through the window. He saw their silhouettes and it made his heart tighten in his chest.
Edward just smiled to himself and put one foot in front of the other like he always did. Always on the move. Always going forward. Always… running.
A honey-glow caught his eye after another block or two and nostalgia swelled up. It was warm and tinted grey. A little less saturated then he had remembered from earlier, but still bright. Inside was just as sun-drenched, somehow importing the rays directly from the source and scattering them about the store.
A middle aged man was perched behind a desk, thumbing through a novella. He looked up at Edward and his face softened curiously.
“What can I do for you?”

Twenty minutes later he left, the bells strung to the doorframe singing at his departure and a small bundle in his hands.
It was ridiculous.
Top to bottom, it was ridiculous. Edward knew that there was no reason to have gotten it in the first place, but the shop had a proud sign proclaiming that they didn’t accept returns.
Oh no… how tragic. Well, he’ll just have to keep this accidental purchase, then.
It wasn’t even a proper book that he’d gotten. It wasn’t some kind of anthology or novel, not essays packed into a leather journal.
It was a play.
He didn’t even like plays. Not really.
He liked getting to place petty bets and swindle his friends out of their deserts.
But it sat comfortably in his hands and it looked familiar enough to lift the weight off his chest.
So he’d keep it.
He took his time finding his way back, milling in a simple, unmotivated type of way. Edward nodded politely to a woman in a slip, a loose coat that was twice the width of he shoulders arranged like some haphazardly sewn curtains thrown over his back with her head out her window, propped up three stories above and puffing away on a stick that smelled rather bitter. She glanced down at him with a smile and offered him a hit.
Edward declined with a dismissive wave and she snickered lightly into the crook of her arm. He wandering in and out of populated areas, dipping between the lively scene of restaurants and liquor stores to the quite spots with an oddly high population of balcony gardens. Residential areas always did tend to be more scheduled in their noise making practices.
There were children, after all.
Edward didn’t dare march himself near Central Command—he planned to steer clear of it even if that meant swerving into oncoming traffic—but he did find himself accidentally swinging past a station stamped with the military police insignia.
He glared at it as he walked like it had personally offered him (it had, to be clear) and turned another corner sharply.
However long it took for him to actually rediscover the fine art of basic city navigation and show up at the inn door, his breath had begun fogging in the chilled air and face surely was a bit flushed.
He padded inside, cargo tucked under his arm carefully because suddenly it was the most precious fucking thing in the world and it was just paper and glue. The clerk acknowledged him with a slow blink and Edward took that as his cue to not bother with any pleasantries, instead striding to him room through the twisted hallways.
Had these been designed after tree roots or something? A poor drunk architect had probably mathematized the hell out of this place and slapped it on a city planners desk before the hangover wore off.
Or maybe it was just really old.
Edward was so close to slipping back into his room. He was so close it was insulting.
Hand on the doorknob, key in hand. He was so damn close but—
“Hey,”
And his soul proceeded to fully leave his body
“Fuck—“

Good morning Vee! You recently made a post where you named Edward Elric as one of your favourite characters. Now I have finished watching FMA Brotherhood and I am in the middle of reading the manga. I am writing this ask for two reasons. First to blame you for pushing me down the rabbit hole. Second to ask if you have any good fic recs! I am so obsessed with it! Have a nice day full of writing inspiration!
Did you enjoy the Nina arc? *evil cackling*
As for fic recs, it has been a while since I read anything in FMA and Idk if you would ship Roy/Ed like I did back then. But when it comes to fanfics, one of the best authors I have ever read was in that fandom. BeautifulFiction is my absolute favorite author and their Babylon and Tears and Rain are my all time favorite fics in any fandom. I read those two fics at least once a year since they were published way back when.
Both of these fics are over a decade old but I read them as they were being written, which probably shows how much I love them. Mind, Babylon is an angst fest of over 200k and Tears and Rain is nearly 200k. Both are epics. An absolute masterclass in how to add tension to romance and an intricate plot tightly - with both parties consenting and equal in power.
(I could go on and on and on)
Winds of Water's Shifting the Sand is probably still on FF.net. That's also an interesting fic.

Hi :) You're my favourite fanfiction writer ever. I figured I'd ask since you seem like you'd have really good taste, do you have any favourite fic writers/stories?
Oh man!! I don't read as much fic as I used to, but I can think of a few. I also don't tend to read fandoms I write for - I get too persnickety lol. So here are my top 100 Naruto fics -
Just kidding. I'm not going to @ the author on most of these because...embarrassed...;-;
Maybe the greatest for me is the Animorphs fic is my stereo on by idolaters (I've never read Homestuck but their Homestuck fic also blew me away).
And this is obscure, but another fic that just really knocked me out is the Trollhunters fic Cultic Epithets of the God Janus (disputed) by niemals_etwas. Those are the only two I can think of off the top of my head that just unironically knocked my socks off.
Prim_the_amazing is my favorite TMA author, and basically the only one I'll consistently read. I have very few TMA fic I actually really actively enjoy, so they stand out for me. And the obvious ones like Lullabyknell for HP and MuffinLance for ATLA but those are givens etc.
Those are the only ones I can really think of off the top of my head. I definitely have 'personal favorites' for fandoms (best Merlin fic is How Arthur Got His Groove Back by thegeminisage, favorite FMA fic is Notorious, best HP fic is the Boys of Crowhill and its series by tb_ll57) but those are the only ones I can think of right now.
Thanks for the q, and thanks for enjoying!
...also, the best Naruto fanfic of all time and one of my top personal favorites of any fic is on paper wings by Crunchysunrises. Very close second in both Naruto and in general is use a tissue when you wipe your nose by @theforceisstronginthegirl, which has the best Sakura I've ever read in my life.
By the way, all of the fic I've listed is Gen or mostly Gen. So very ace friendly and Ace Certified!
TL;DR: "on paper wings" wins best longform, "is my stereo on" wins best shortform, "Cultic Epithets" wins best chaptered.

I was tagged by @buckysbears to do this fanfic writer tag game - thank you so much, and sorry it took me so long :’D
What’s your all-time favourite ship?
This is a great question, and I honestly don’t know how to answer it xD I for sure have written the most for IwaOi from Haikyuu, but I have big soft spots for EdWin from FMA and Sophie and Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle!
How many works do you have on AO3?
95! Several of these are collections though, with every chapter being an unrelated short fic or drabble. I have deleted some original things and older fics that were no longer relevant to my interests and that barely got any hits (and I also had like. Idk, 20-ish fics on ff.net before I stopped using it haha)
What’s your total AO3 word count?
376k (damn??)!
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
They’re all Haikyuu (big surprise lmao):
Fix Me - my longest HQ fic, and also one of my first!! It still makes me happy when people find it, even though I think I would probably write it differently if I were writing it today.
I know the sound of your heart – a spin the bottle/party fic with an inevitable collision – this one is a lot of fun, in my opinion!
here’s to taking what you came for – fake dating but not quite; this is one of my personal favorites so I’m really happy to see it up here!!
Burning heart - firefighter!Iwa AU! This one was fun to write and research, though in retrospect idk if I would write it the same way again, I feel I was quite flippant about some more serious topics? It’s not terrible, but it’s for sure not for everyone, I think. There is an actual house fire in this one.
Evidence - this baffles me tbh, it’s also one of my first ever Iwaoi fics (and probably why it’s all the way up here, it’s been around the longest) but it’s… in my opinion it’s not very well-written, it’s not even very long, it’s just a cute little concept that I wanted to get onto virtual paper and posted on a whim xD And then because people kept finding and liking it, I wrote two follow-up chapters hahah - but sometimes that’s how it goes, I guess!
Do you reply to comments, why or why not?
Yes, always! I love talking to people and making friends (and have made most of my fandom friends by connecting after commenting on their work and getting comments on mine)! Also it just gives me SO MUCH JOY to hear people’s thoughts. That’s the main draw for fanfic writing in general for me, connecting with people about characters we love!! Exchanging concepts, building AUs, just like… interacting in fandom spaces yknow???
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
I’m pretty sure it’s The Last Unicorn, an Iwaoi fic which contains major character death – not something I usually ever write, I am more partial to hurt/comfort or fluff ^^ I guess I was feeling particularly edgy that day. I don’t recommend revisiting it tbh?
What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
Like… every other fic I’ve written hahaha (ok but for real)
Do you write crossovers?
Not currently or actively. I’ve had some ideas, but mostly they turn into “Franchise AU” things rather than actual crossovers (I’m honestly not really sure where the line of distinction is here anyway).
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Genuinely, no. I’ve received some comments that were… dissatisfied, but that was mostly on ff.net and they were usually outliers. Never any outright hate, at any rate.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I have written maybe… two (?) explicit fics that I’ve posted, but it’s not really what I gravitate towards. I’m not opposed to it, but usually I prefer to write fluff! And I’ve got a bunch of unposted drafts of things, who knows if I’ll ever finish them or post them if I do xD I don’t feel like that’s really entirely My Brand (not that I know what is sksksk).
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I am aware of.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, one of my fics was translated into Russian! There are also podfics for a couple of my fics :D
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, many times! Most of those have not been finished though :’)
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Tbh the older the WIP, the less likely it is that I’ll return to it. Although I’ll never say never, sometimes all it takes for me to get excited about a fic again is for someone else to get excited and drag me along ^^ Generally though I would love to finish all my unfinished works. It bugs me that they’re unfinished xD
What are your writing strengths?
I think I’m quite good at writing dialogues and inner monologues. I like finding voices for characters, putting them in situations and seeing how they’ll react, that sort of stuff! I also am always excited to try new styles, patterns, narrative voices etc and I think that’s an asset :D
What are your writing weaknesses?
I struggle a lot with creating characters these days (that are not taken from other works, i.e. writing things that are not fanfic) because I am so used to fanfic writing? I’ve truly built up a deficit and really want to work on improving there (so if anyone has suggestions, I’m all ears!!!)
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Another super good question tbh!!! Generally I think it’s cool as long as it’s done well? As a bilingual person, it’s kind of painful to see… bad bilingual rep? But I wouldn’t go around policing anyone on how they’ve written things, idk, I do like to give people the benefit of the doubt (and offer to help if it seems like they might like some tips). And as a translator I am also not against just… explaining what words mean in author’s notes or footnotes tbh! At the end of the day you want your reader to understand what you’re writing, right??
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Genuinely the first thing I ever wrote was technically “fan fiction” for a children’s book series, Mercer Mayer’s “Little Critter”, when I was 5 years old (I wrote a story for my younger siblings, so we wouldn’t “always have to read the same books over and over” xD My mom saved it, and I have it now – a true relic!! I even made art to go with it and it’s TERRIBLE and I love it!!!)
But the first piece of writing that I posted was…huh. I’m actually not sure – Bleach, maybe? It was on ff.net under a different name lmao
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
This changes all the time but currently these are my faves:
Fix my head, it’s pouring at the seams for Polygon’s Cyberpunk Red ttrpg – I have a LOT of feelings about these characters and also about the poly ship, and the fandom is so small but it truly was a labor of love and I am SO PROUD OF IT (so if you want to, please read it, you don’t really need to know much before you go into it)
cause every time I run, I run to you for Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (I just. love Ed and Winry so much. AAAA.)
You bring me home for Good Omens (it’s not my most popular fic, that’s a different one that got a load of notes here on tumblr of all places, but I still love it)
and these two Haikyuu/Iwaoi fics: can’t control the weather, which is an AU in which Oikawa has a daughter and she has magic and chaos ensues; and here’s to taking what you came for, see above, my subversion of the classic fake dating trope :D Both were such a BLAST to write!!!
((honorable mention to the Tiny!Oikawa fic in which Oikawa shrinks – I finished it relatively recently and am VERY happy with how it turned out, despite the significant time between chapters hahah))
These were super fun, but obviously no pressure: I tag @ricekrispyjoints, @antiiva, @imaginarydragonling, @astersandstuffs, and @rauchblauwrites!!

fic tag yay
Thank you @lantur!
How many works do you have on AO3? 10 lol. I have a few forgotten ones in FFN from when I was young. Royai forgotten ones.
What's your total AO3 word count? 99,498. Fair, considering I don’t write a lot.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Berceuse, a Pharmercy (Overwatch) fic in which Angela has a baby and is in hiding. I had planned nice things for it, but writing in English at the time was still a challenge for me, so I eventually stopped. Maybe someday I’ll pick it up again, because it’s close to my heart
Wrong focus, Symbra (Overwatch) fic in which I projected myself so much a doctor could use it to look inside me instead of an MRI
Let Us Be Lovers, We'll Marry Our Fortunes Together, Royai (FMA) canon compliant fic in which Roy and Riza get engaged when Berthold dies. It’s canon compliant :eyes:
Amiss, Symbra (Overwatch) fic oh look the author discovered they’re autistic and are dealing with it in fanfic. Look at them go. I hope they’re okay now
The flicker, Royai (FMA) fic that is a character study-ish of Riza growing up when Roy Mustang is living at her place. This is my current baby because I’ve always (as in: 15 years) wanted to write young Riza. Go love it
Do you reply to comments, why or why not? Yes, I try!! I’m so grateful for every one of them! But I’m often not eloquent enough to know what to say. I’m suddenly shy.
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending? N o n e. I stuff all my pain and suffering in the middle, where you’ll bite with more zeal.
No ok it’s Alleyways because my part is a flashback.
What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending? By contrast, all of them are very happy (because the middle is pure pain), so I’m gonna go with the happiest of them all: Heat Pains and Team dynamics
Do you write crossovers? If so, what's the craziest one you've ever written? I’m not very interested in crossovers, actually.
Have you ever received hate on a fic? I need that achievement.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes. I wrote a subtle, blink-and-you-miss-it sexual act in Wrong focus, and a full-blown smut fic in Heat Pains. It was M/F and cis and werewolfy.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Don’t think so.
Have you ever had a fic translated? ooooh I wish!
Have you ever co-written a fic before? Alleyways was co-written with @dibujosdelcolibri
What’s your all-time favourite ship? I do not have one. Seriously. I have many favorites.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? ..........Berceuse..... And the Dragon Age one....
What are your writing strengths? Prose. My mind goes places.
What are your writing weaknesses? Everything else, pretty much. I’m here for the Pretty. But mostly it’s time-keeping within narrative. I’m working on it though. Also, grammar - I’d say it’s because I’m ESL but there are many ESLs who don’t struggle with it so I’ll just go cry over there call me if anything
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? Know the language, or ask someone who does to aid you. When done naturally, it’s good!
What was the first fandom you wrote for? Monica’s Gang when I was a little child, and Digimon Adventure when I was 10.
What’s your favourite fic you’ve written? The flicker.
@brightoncemore, @songofsaraneth, @kinaesthetiquilt I choose you

Hello! First of all, I love your Soul Eater arts and fanfics. I'm really happy SE still has a strong, devoted fandom. I'm also a SoMa fans so your blog is like heaven to me. I also absolutely love your perspective fic, can't wait for another one. And, what is your opinion/headcanons for the friendship between our favourites trio Meisters? I love how Star and Kid are like protective big bros to Maka. And do you think SE can get a reboot? With FF getting famous (and SE moon cameo on the last eps)
Hiiii, thank you for loving my works and fics! Actually the Perspective series was my first ever fic in English so please excuse the inconsistency gdhsjsk
I aaaaaabsolutely adore Star and Kid as Maka's big brothers actually. I like to think that they grew up together and already did all of the shenanigans together in the school and just generally being the staff's niece/nephews, so when they did enroll in DWMA the teachers were just... oh... those kids...
Also I somehow think Soul and Maka as the group's little siblings? Like all of them has protective instinct towards those two
And speaking of, I do like to make Maka far younger than the rest of them in AUs I guess? Like in the FMA AU, Kid is 27, Star is 26, and Maka is 20. Or when in Gangsta AU, Star and Kid are 25 and Maka's like... 19
I just love the concept of Maka with protective big bros >//////<
Anyway, idk the chance of it getting a reboot. I kinda wish they would bc 2023 is the ten year anniversary of the manga ending but idk? Bones? Answer us!
