I'm about to tell on myself so fucking hard but you know what I wish was a feature on A03?

So...nhentai gives every comic posted to it a number, right? And you can take just that number, nothing else, and type it into the site's search box and it will take you DIRECTLY to that comic. So when people on reddit or whatever want to post the source/talk about a comic they don't HAVE to post a whole ass link, they can just give you the number. Which is cool because links can be sketchy(there are a lot of fake nhentai sites that are just loaded with viruses and shit) and like, there are lots of other reasons people don't like clicking on random links/sharing them is hard(length for one). Just posting the comics barcode? I guess? saves all of that.

Plus something I have noticed is it's pretty fucking hard to find a specific fic if you don't have the link. Cuz just the title isn't gonna do you much good on A03 given how many fics all have the same/similar titles, and if you lost the author's name too you basically just have to dive headfirst into the fandom/ship tag and pray you find what you're looking for which SUCKS with big fandoms/ships that have like 100k + works. Which is actually part of why I think I've seen some people posting "I'm looking for this fic help" stuff as fics on A03.

(Edit: also with the common practice of orphaning and posting as anonymous on A03 sometimes the authors name doesn't do you any good either.)

So if each fic had/has a unique ID number it would be a lot easier to share them around so you'd be less likely to lose them, and you wouldn't have to worry about a broken link ect. cuz as long as you have those numbers you can find the fic again instantly.

And like A03 kinda has that in the sense that like, look, here's a link to one of my fics

It HAS those numbers at the end so theoretically if I knew a fics numbers I could just type in archiveofourown.org/works/(the number) and find the fic, but you can't actually use those numbers to search

So I don't see people like, normalizing sharing the numbers along with links cuz it's just a little too complicated.

But I mean just think, you find an old masterpost with hyperlinks to fics but the site has gone weird or the links broke or op deleted the post and the versions that still exist are all fucked up now something, and you're bummed cuz sure maybe they put the titles and fandoms and authors but for all you know the fics were set to anonymous or orphaned and either way that's a lot of searching, wouldn't it be nice if each listing also just had those numbers hanging out? And that way as long as you have so much as a picture of the post you can still find those fics. You don't have to save the post and hope it doesn't get deleted or go cram the stuff into "marked for later" right then and there, you can just hold on to those numbers. That sounds pretty nice to me!!

I dunno, maybe there is something I'm missing, but I was thinking about this bcs I have a bunch of new followers on Instagram who like this ship I make content for and I WANT to tell them I wrote a fic, but it's Instagram, you gotta post pics and doing a little info graphic feels kinda tacky? So I'm drawing something based on the fic to post, but then I guess I just have to put the link to the fic in the description or something, and I keep thinking GOD it would be so much easier if I could just post the numbers 38480276 and have that be enough for all of them to find the fic without scaring away people who don't want to click on random links/the awkwardness of just posting a link in general.

But yeah, that's my rant about the porn website doing it better bcs tbh sometimes they do and I think this being a feature or coming into common usage would be nice.

So, someone asked a question on Reddit about what HW's quote meant, and I felt like responding to it (partly to give the OP an idea of what I felt the quote meant and partly to just answer this question for myself as I have analyzed the quote to heck and back since I kind of resonated with its strangeness yet...relatability and normalness like Adventure Time itself).

I am posting it here for later writing reference (and to subject myself to the unbridled opinions of the internet I guess).

In response to the redditor's question of "hard meat don't get eat" and its meaning.

The full quote is:

"I...uhh...I worry that hard meat don't get eat.

"That is to say, if I ever find what I am looking for, I'll become soft and cease to matter in this world.

"'Fear of softness' is what drove me to the mad and sad world of wizarding. And Finn..."

*kisses Finn after he acknowledges her* (*and Jake gasps in the background*)

*stops kissing Finn*

"...my Flute Spell was for you too.

"You're an exceptional beast, and you have great hair, but exceptional beasts like us cannot fall in love. That is the secreat of ordinary people."

It, in a nutshell means, "I worry about being and looking tough because nobody messes with a tough person. But, I am soft inside, and I am afraid others might see it if I admit to wanting companionship. I left the forest for the city to hone my powers and reputation as a remedy to this. And Finn... I like you too. You are a great guy with great hair, but great people like us cannot afford to sully ourselves with the craziness of falling in love. That is how ordinary people work."

This is how I understood it because this is actually how I feel when it comes to people.

Huntress Wizard wants to be left alone and not deal with the hurt that comes from loving others because it can be painful, especially when people decide they don't like you anymore because of your strange customs/lifestyle and strong personality. She is afraid of that vulnerability and what it can do to her and avoids it like the plague.

BUT!

At the same time, she is not without wanting companionship...considering she spent the episode trying to reunite with an old friend, and that's actually fairly normal. No one wants to be completely alone (except for tigers or wolves who are wandering and trying to find their place)). Most people, even hermits, have at least one friend he/she can call a friend. For HW, that is probably the Spirit of the Forest in Flute Spell.

That being the case, it would seem that HW is actually afraid of that aspect of herself because she believes the world will stop seeing her as tough...and that she actually WILL become less tough for opening up and getting close to someone.

(Yet...she was clearly not uncomfortable being soft around Finn about failing to summon the spirit right before their combined flute songs did actually summon him, so it seems the forest spirit is not the only one she is willing to be open around. The juxtaposition of her words vs actions with Finn and Jake in the episode were very nicely done.)

Thus, it is really a quote about the struggles of vulnerability and how she deals with that struggle as a means to maintain her self perception and how the world sees her. It is, very simply who she is.

Evenso, it doesn't mean that someone can't get close to her and get her to open up. It just means that it is very difficult and not something she likes to deal with (so the fact that she likes and appreciates Finn enough to allow herself to be part of his life and, most likely, vice versa is telling of how much Finn came to mean to her and also why I like the Finntress ship as it shows that even people who are afraid of their own emotions don't have to be because having those emotions for others are normal and can actually make you stronger. But that is my opinion based on my life's experiences.).

So....yeah.

I am in the process of writing stuff like this for my side blog. I finished fleshing out my character Jean's segments and how her story needs to go, so it is easier to focus on this stuff. I am handwriting the articles to get my thoughts and transitionary statements kind of sorted/resorted, and then I will be typing them. This will actually free me up to do more on my fanfiction...which I cannot wait to do as chapter 4 will be diving into Finn's feelings for HW both during and after Flute Spell.

Fun times. Fun times.
