Last night at Nokia Areena was amazing!! Not even that random mister "my cup is more than half empty every effing moment" could dampen my feelings. (yes I have bad days also but I still wouldn't go to an event and complain about everything for 3 hours! I felt so bad for his companion)
Few random thoughts after the night (and re-watching the show from yle areena just now)
Jesse Markin! You are still my number one this year and I gave my vote(s) to you. I kind of felt that yle let him down with his staging. It was tbh underwhelming. And dear umk do NOT (!) leave the only big visual effect of the performance to the audience. It was clear that some/most of the audience would light and reveal those flashes right away and not wait and the effect of gradually lighting the whole arena was never gonna happen. Jesse and dancers were great though!
Sexmane - Max Sane...I'm so sorry for misjudging you and placing you last on my list after songs were released. He was my biggest riser. He rose even before the live show. I was still sceptical about his live vocals before the show, but I shouldn't have worried. His vocals were actually so much better live than with the autotune. And his staging was really good and he delivered that Mania on stage. (He was so believable that I gave him 1 vote too)
Sara Siipola. Okay, I liked the staging a lot. I liked her outfit and all that leaf gold. But she was supposed to be all about the vocals and her vocals were not 100%. I haven't been able to hop the Paskana train and I have disliked some manerisms in her singing (i'm not sure what to call it, but it's the way she pronounces some letters..and she only does it while singing not in interviews) Her voice is great, the song was great but it still wasn't 5/5 for me.
Windows95man and Henri Piispanen. I love having fun. I love good kind of cringe. And I loved Henris vocals. In the arena his vocals sounded the best of all the contestant even though the pace of the song is crazy and he was laying on the floor while singing at one point. Staging is crazy, and denim and 90's. Jesse and the other dancer were really good.
MGN. Yeah. It was fun, it was catchy. I was singing, I was dancing. Still not fan of MG.
Cyan Kicks. Nothing wrong here. My inner metal head rock chick was missing something and couldn't get past that.
Sini Sabotage. Kermakakku fiilis not in this tucking day. Staging was nice when I was watching it in the arena. I did not like it on tv though. Her vocals were not strong enough live. (I'm going to get cancelled amongst finns but I was never fan of Levikset repee either)
Kuumaa and Benjamin. HOT hot hot!! Amazing. Benjamins vocals were so much better than last year. Kuumaa was great as always.
Katri Helena. She is the voice of Finland. Standing ovation.
I loved the Finnish-Swedish banter. Well done.
Joker out! And well played there Bojan wearing your Käärijä shirt.
Tampere! My town, my home. Perfect host city for umk...and esc.
And for me the highlight of the night was Käärijä. Based on the applause he was getting (biggest applause of the night), I wasn't the only one. I will write seperate post dedicated to him but he will always be my umk/etc artist. Or actually no...he will always be something much more.
I didn't have strong opinions on who we should send to Malmö as I knew finns would not vote for my favorite enough. I am content with our winner and I'm sure he will delivere a party. He is not Käärijä, he doesn't try to be Käärijä and he shouldn't be compared to him all the time (and I know it's going to happen and it's kind of natural). But him winning is not just finns trying to replicate last year. This is more like Portion Boys than Käärijä actually. And there's huge amount of finns enjoying just this. But where as Käärijä was almost everyones winner last year, W95M will never be same kind of whole nations sweetheart. Sara Siipola was favorite in all the polls and there's huge amount of dissapointed people due the fact that she didn't win.

(for some reason tumblr wouldn't let me edit the post draft? so I've had to screenshot this ask)
how can I say no to someone asking me so nicely for heist mark content? and thank you!! I'm so happy you enjoy it🥺💖
I decided to go with 11. picking a leaf/flower petal out of their hair, or brushing dirt off of their face
mud on my face and heart on my sleeve, when I'm with you
Heist!Mark x reader | Words: 1,264 | Read on AO3
A masters degree in digging, huh?
A bad luck magnet and reckless idiot at times though he may be, your partner in crime never failed to surprise you.
You were left reeling, barely enough time to process the deep hole that had appeared on the floor of your shared cell in what was surely an impossible amount of time. Or had it been longer, and you had simply zoned out while he was digging? No, that didn't seem right.
Years of carefully planned heists — down to the precise minute for certain jobs — had allowed you to develop a near impeccable sense of time. But today you felt strange, as if something was throwing off that instinct, making you doubt your judgement.
Self-doubt, however, was something you could not afford to pay any mind on a high-stakes job such as this, especially when Mark always seemed to rely so heavily on your choices in the heat of the moment. So instead, you allowed yourself to indulge in his confidence, using it as a springboard to bring you back to certitude.
You followed him down into the tunnel as the two of you made your way under the penitentiary to the Warden's office.
When you emerged, the pair of you were covered head to toe in soil and dust. It wasn’t the first time you had both ended up dirty on a heist, having to throw your clothes in the laundry when you returned to base, but the smug satisfaction and relief that came with bringing home your loot was always well worth it.
Once you had secured The Box, it was only a matter of fooling the nearest prison guard into aiding your escape. You watched as Mark absolutely milked his performance, feeding the guard some sob story he’d made up on the fly about him and his grandmother both being on death’s door, while you gestured dramatically to emphasise parts of his tale when it felt appropriate.
You struggled to stay composed seeing Mark’s expressions — he’d always been one for theatrics. In your opinion, he was overdoing it too much for the act to be convincing, but all that really mattered was the guard was completely buying into it, far too distracted by Mark to notice you fighting to contain your laughter (or the gaping hole in the ground, apparently).
‘I know this sacrifice, and what it means to you. But it means so much more to me,’ Mark declared with as much gratitude as he could muster, clutching the guard’s phone tightly.
The guard responded with various distressed noises, and you honestly couldn’t believe how well this was going.
‘But if also, you know, I could hear my gran-gran’s voice in peace,’ Mark continued somberly. ‘I don’t want you to hear her. She’s real sick.’
‘Ok, yeah, she’s probably got some kind of weird co- I get it,’ the poor guard stuttered.
‘They’re okay, they can hear it,’ Mark said, nodding and gesturing to you.
‘Yeah you guys — y’all shower together n’ whatnot,’ the guard replied, getting up to leave.
Mark nodded dismissively while you frowned and raised an eyebrow at the guard’s words. As he trudged sadly down the hall, though, you felt a little bad for lying to him. Either he was going through something himself or was just a particularly emotional guy.
Mark perked up, dropping the act as soon as the guard was out of earshot. ‘Well, that was easier than I thought it’d be. But we got a phone, which is the only thing we need to get outta here.’
You stood up, stepping towards the edge of the room and poking a finger against the gate, which the guard had conveniently left ajar, pushing it wide open with a creak.
You turned to look at Mark, then back, gesturing to the open cell door and the obvious escape before you.
‘Nooo, that’s too easy. We’ll leave that as a backup plan for our backup plan. I’ve got a call to make.’
You simply rolled your eyes. At times like this, it was better to just let your heist partner do his thing.
You hear Bubba’s voice over the phone, letting you know he’ll arrive in five.
‘Now, I don’t know if that was five hours or five minutes—’
The squeal of tires is all the warning you get before a pickup truck bursts through the back wall of the cell rear-end first and you hear Bubba yell for you to get in.
What immediately transpires is a blur of motion as you feel adrenaline in your veins and your heart thrumming in your ribcage. Mark ushers you to the back of the vehicle, yanking the door open and letting you go first as you clamber into the safety of the cargo bed, pushing aside fallen bricks from the collapsed wall. Mark follows suit, pulling the door closed behind him, and the car speeds away into the night.
You barely register the chill of the October air as you cling to the back of the truck with your left hand.
The autumn wind whips at Mark's hair as he crouches beside you. You can't help but think he looks gorgeous despite his roughed up appearance, all the dirt from the tunnel and the rubble from the broken wall.
He shoots you a grin, looking positively ecstatic, and you can practically feel the triumph and thrill that radiates off him. It's the same feeling coursing through your nerves as well.
You have had close encounters with the authorities before, but breaking out of prison is a new high for you both.
You give him a wide smile in return, and when he looks directly into your eyes everything around you seems to slow and obscure out of focus. All that matters in this moment is that you're both safe and free, and all his attention is solely on you. The space between you feels static and you think to yourself that any risk, any close call, is worth it for him to be smiling at you like this.
You reach out towards his face with your free hand, cupping his cheek in your palm. His eyes widen a fraction but he doesn't say a word or make a move to pull away.
You almost miss how he leans ever so slightly into your touch as you swipe at the dirt with your thumb.
‘Your face is all dirty, dummy.’
‘So’s yours.’
Your other hand comes up to hold the other side of his face and you shift slightly, steadying yourself (not that you really need to, you seem to have slowed down enough that you won't fall out suddenly and besides, you trust Mark enough to grab you in time should that be a real danger).
His left hand comes up to your right to tenderly hold your wrist in place.
His skin feels warm against yours, stubble tickling your palms. You wipe at the dirt and dust with both thumbs this time.
Your faces are inches apart now. You can't ignore the way his eyes flicker very briefly down to your lips, and you have half a mind to kiss his stupid, smug face right then and there.
The moment is broken as Bubba calls out to you both from the driver seat, letting you know that you'll be far enough to stop soon.
As you and Mark exit the vehicle though, the rush remains present, and it isn't just from the thrill of escaping. His gaze and touch send you on a roller coaster of their own.

Sulk in the Sun🍹

While it’s quite out of character to do so; Penny loses her cool and storms off. Although it isn’t ladylike to admit that. Brains comes to join her by the pool. And of all people, is the one to try and talk her out of potential leaving International Rescue.
Boom! last fic of the year bay-beeee. Happy 2024
Story under the cut for those who prefer to read here
Lady Penelope was never a sun chaser. Or comfortable in great heat. Much as she was trying to relax. Forcing herself to relax might be the more operative term.
"Oh, I'd much rather be wrapped up in layers. With a walk on the heath any day.” she thought moodily, looking out over the ocean again. rather than facing the sunlight like the fellow tourists topping up their tans. “Bring on winter. It's probably a lovely chilly autumn day back home!”
Around the pool (but not actually in it), holiday makers and expats alike were turning over and over for an even bronze. Penelope privately thought most were cooking themselves to walnuts; all oiled brown and wrinkly. She decided she probably looked silly; sat in the near shade wearing a cover wrap and a large sun hat. And then decided she didn't care. Not particularly. Just like she didn’t care for this resort. And she didn’t care about International Rescue. No, not at all.
Penelope again tried to put ‘the day job’ from her mind. And tried to focus on just the sea breeze coming over the cliff side. The blue ocean. and blue almost cloudless sky stretching on for ever and ever. And somewhere out there, just beyond the horizon and further hidden by several clever mirage devices, hidden in plain sight was Tracy Island…
Drat.
"Your drink, M’Lady?"
Penelope did not jump. She refused to. Parker was now hovering at her side again, ever the faithful English butler. Even in his holiday cream chinos.
"Parker. You're on holiday too.” she scolded. “Do desist bullying the resort staff out of their jobs!"
"Begging your pardon milady. But they can't make a mixer or -pardon me language- a blooming cup of tea right.” He explained. “Not to your particular way of liking, at any rate."
Penelope sighed. He had a point.
"I do appreciate it, Parker. But you are fussing.”
“Sorry, milady.”
“Really. The world won't end just because of a little spilt milk or life providing lemons for the lemonade..." she said, taking the drink from the tray. then added with a rather viscous look back out to sea. "Despite what our American friends think."
"Quite? Erm...” Parker hesitated. It seemed he was not, for all their year's together, sure how to address a Ladyship whose pride had been wounded. Discussing Common enemies or wrong uns sure. Not catty remarks about ol’ pals and friendships possibly soured.
“Well… I’ll be off then? if you say so milady?"
"I do. Please Parker, go off and enjoy yourself?" She said, then added, “Preferably without a casino in sight?”
Parker sighed.
“No more gambling wot I ain’t got m’lady. You have my word on that. But.” Again, Parker hesitated. Then cleared his throat.
"If I might be so bold as to say so, milady-?"
"No. You may not." Penelope snubbed. And stubbornly turned back to the picture esc view.
“…Very good, m’lady.” Parker snubbed right back. Penelope sat tense, purposely ignoring him as he departed. then cursed her bad temper as even Parker left her too sit and stew.
Villains and hazards she could handle with ease. Emotions, or more unpleasant feelings, she’d always rather hated facing. Creighton-Wards don’t do very good at that. Especially without something constructive or some engagement to throw herself into.
“I wasn’t made for relaxing on sunbeds.” She thought. “That clearly skipped a generation.”
She did persevere, however, between sipping the fruity drink and reading the awful bad romance thriller book she’d brought with her.
(she’d initially brought the new hit bestseller to hide the history journal she had actually been reading. It wouldn’t do for the British tabloid press to think she wasn’t such a blonde. But then Diane had said the Book was so awful, it was actually good. So, Penelope had tried to read it for real. Then decided while she could trust Diane one many things, life and death things even; book recommendations was not one of them.)
The book, however bad, wasn't exciting enough to take her mind off things. Not properly. But She absolutely was not going to lose her temper, again or spend the whole holiday shut up in her room. Nor was she going to cry or shed one single tear over Jeff bloody Tracy. Or Scott for that matter. She hadn’t so far and was not about to start. Certainly not in public, thank you very much.
Lady Penelope was just debating if she should give it up? And see what the on-site gym had to offer, hoping to physically run away from her troubles. But when she went to sit up her ribs to remind her why she was on a ‘relaxing holiday’ in the first place. Trying not to wince was extra hard when she heard Parker’s heavy footsteps. (The ex-cat burglar was deliberately making himself heard and not sneak up on her again.) Instead, Penelope repressed a groan. not even forty minutes had gone past since she’d asked to be left in peace!
"Begging your pardon again ma'am. but there’s a gentleman wishing to speak to you?"
"If it’s anyone with the surname Tracy on the telephone I do not wish to speak to them." She snapped, not looking up from the book.
"Good thing it ain’t on the phone, then." Parker cut back, rather brutishly. then asked, "What can I get you to drink, young sir?"
"J-Just a c- cold soft drink please, Parker."
"Brains?!"
"H-hi Lady Penelope.”
Penelope bolted up (ouch) and lifted her sunglasses. Sure enough, there was International Rescues resident genius. He gave a little wave, as Parker gave a little nod and left. "My dear boy, how splendid to see you! What on earth are you doing here?"
“I’m dropping in on you, a-apparently. If that’s okay?" Brains smiled, sitting on the sun lounger next to hers. The young man stuck out like a sore thumb in his vest, shirt and tie. But despite the heat and the awkward way he held himself, (as if the lounger would bite him if he were to put his feet up,) Brains didn't seem to mind. Mind, Penelope supposed he was used to the heat of the southern hemisphere.
“I-I hope, I'm not interrupting anything?”
“Only my own ruminating. How did you know where I was?" She asked, astonished, putting down the rubbish paperback. Then narrowed her eyes at him. "And why are you here, even? Did someone put you up to this?"
Brains’ hands went up sharpish in surrender, like she’d levelled a pistol at him.
"N-no. no one! I came of my own accord.” He said. Then amended, putting his arms down. “Well a-actually, no. That's not true. I was coming here. Solo. then l-lost my nerve? and Tin-tin bullied me into actually going through with this. And then flew me here!"
Penelope whipped around. (Her ribs didn’t like that.) Tin-tin sat at the outdoor bar, looking resplendent in tangerine. with a drink to match. seeing she’d been spotted, Miss Kyrano saluted her.
"Tin-Tin said if you like, she's up for a trip out into town. but she’s also said to tell you she’s not coming over until she knows you definitely won’t judo throw her over the cliff. or be cross with her for bringing me over.” Brains explained.
“I would never-!” Penelope said aghast. Then remembered the rather vicious exchanging of words that had led to her checking into the resort rather than staying on Tracy Island. “…Not the first option at least.”
“T-that’s fair. And as for the how, John tracked the heli-jet to the mainland, and locating your communications was very simple. That and this is one of the nearest luxury adults only resorts to the airport. Tracy Industries has a gold card- “
"Oh of course he does." Penelope scoffed. And then felt a teensy bit bad for throwing Brains off his track.
Brains nervously cleared his throat. and continued. "Yes. to a suite? We stay here if the weather is too bad to get back across from supplies runs with the jet or the Ladybird. so, we simply walked onto site, dropped off our bags; Tin-tin got changed and then we came looking for you."
“Right. Well Brains, you’ve found me. Congratulations…”
Brains shifted nervously as she scrutinised him. Then turned away, pulling back down her sunglasses.
"A-a Penny for them, Lady Penelope?" Brains tried when the silence stretched a little too long.
"Right now, my thoughts do not make for good company." Penelope said coolly, not accolading the pun on her name, intentional or not.
Then sighed, rubbing her temple.
"My apologies. You are a pip for coming out to see me. I shouldn't take it out on you. Or dear old Parker, either for that matter."
"Less of the old." She thought she heard. Penelope glanced back to the bar where her butler was taking an awfully long time to fetch Brains his pop.
Penelope took off her sunglasses, folding them neatly back into their case.
"But Brains? Dear if you've come to apologise on their behalf or ask me to come back to the island, don’t bother. and I’m not apologising either, so don’t waste your time asking me too!" She said, feeling rather childish. Then added. “Even if it is bad form."
"No, I didn’t. And-and I'm not going to do that. I-I c c ccc.”
Brains paused and took a breath before continuing.
“I came on my behalf. Admittedly with a push. No one bar John was informed where we were heading. Just off base. And as for saying sorry-?”
“What about it?”
“Well, I think you’re both in the wrong? if it matters, Lady Penelope.” He said sincerely.
Penelope shot him a look that sent ‘stronger men’ running normally. This time Brains wasn’t affected.
“However, you came to Tracy Island for r-rest and recovery. And I’m sorry you fell out with Scott and Mr Tracy. That I will a-a-pp-p. That I am sorry for.” He continued. “I wanted to make sure you're okay. Really?"
"That, that is very sweet of you. I'm …fine, thank you." She said. Then teased just a little. "How many times do I have to say you’re free to call me Penny. or at least Penelope?"
"I don't think I could manage ‘Penny’." Brains shook his head. "It doesn't sound right from me."
“Alright.” She said, “But I mean it. And it is sweet, but I hate to think I’ve put you out. you could have just called?"
"W-would you have answered? "
"From you, yes.” Penelope said truthfully. “But then again I guess there's no way of screening calls outside of the home video phone and FAB One.”
"No. That is something I’ve been looking into? Assimilating a ringtone, different coloured lights for items. Or a caller id like on telly phones. It’s been simple enough to roll out on the vehicles so far. But on the watches and-!”
Brains stopped. “… Lady Penelope, you're letting me t-talk e-electronics again."
"You call it techno babble; I find it interesting." She shrugged. It might have sounded like false flattery to or from someone else, but she did genuinely enjoy listening to Brains. Even the bits that went over her head.
"Yes, but y-you're avoiding an awkward conversation." Brains frowned. "Where was I?"
"Television phone lines?" Penelope tried. Brains frown grew a little exasperated. "Oh, it was worth a shot. I said I would have answered. if it was you."
"Right. Well as I said I wanted to make sure you were okay. I was worried about you. So, were Tin-tin a-and the fellas? And we’re all missing you and had been looking forward to you visiting. Really. I hope I’m not wrong when I say I see you as a very good ‘pal’, Lady Penelope? even outside of work.”
Brains was not a great fan of spontaneous physical affection. or else Penelope might have reached over and squeezed his hand. She herself wasn’t one for mushy sentiments without substance.
“You aren’t wrong. Although I'm not using the term ‘pal’ , thank you. but You’re a dear friend of mine too Brains. One Whom I’m lucky to have I might add.”
“The gadgetry upgrades are an a-added bonus.”
He said it in his normal tone but punctuated it with a very over top wink. Ah a joke.
Parker did not bring Brains his cola. But allowed the automatic waiter to bring it to him instead. It was a shiny chirping dustbin looking thing with a flat tray head, running on wheels and a track. Nothing as sophisticated as Braman. Although someone had gone to great trouble to put a smiley face on its front using its order lights as eyes. Penelope glared at it all the same for intruding.
Brains took the drink, thanked the robot; And continued.
“And it was somewhat selfish of me too. Coming to see you I mean. I wanted to get off the island for a little while. or at least away from the house.”
“Oh? Brains, is something wrong?” Penelope wasn’t going to admit she was worried no. not at all.
Alright, perhaps a smidgen.
“hm. it isn't a nice atmosphere.” Brains said, plucking out the umbrella from the drink and rolling it in his fingers. “And the others are trying to hide in my lab which is-?”
The near splutter of giggle from her startled them both.
“Terribly sorry, Brains.” Penelope apologised. “I wasn’t laughing at you. I just got the ridiculous image of one or more of the boys physically hiding under your work bench like a game of sardines!”
“Ah. no. That would be funny! And that has happened before! Not with the work bench but the storage cupboard. I do have to remind them sometimes it is a working lab and workshop." Brains said with a chuckle. Then more seriously, "If they were working on their own projects, I wouldn’t mind. It would be simply a case of just being there at the same time? but it was more they all keep coming in rather than face one another. if that makes sense? to see how whatever it is I’m working on is going and small talk."
“Ah. No, I quite agree that it is quite bothersome when people do that. One moment.”
Penelope reached into her bag. And pulled out an anti-listening device, ironically disguised as a compartment pocket disc and radio player. While the one in her compact and Brain’s watch were probably more than adequate for any electronic bugs; this one packed a little more juice that’d allow them a little more privacy. Beaming white noise up out of its antennae, the gadget then echoed surrounding noise back outward, creating a barrier around in up to a five-metre radius. Both eves’ droppers and recording devices alike wouldn’t hear them now. Even Parker and Tin-tin’s own IR devices would struggle against it. Parker wouldn’t even hear what she was saying even if he hid in a nearby decorative pot plant.
“There. Then we speak a little more freely about your lab and the Tracy’s.” Penelope smiled, setting it on the table between their sun loungers. “You can never guarantee secrecy in these places. As you’ve proven!”
Only Brains was more focused on the not-a-radio. “Is the new synth mechanism working well for output you need it too outside of the testing conditions? I wasn’t certain it could generate the continuous voltage without compensating the battery life.”
“Now who’s talking shop to avoid discussions?” Penelope pointed out. Brains sighed and swirled the cola as if it might help.
"It isn’t a nice atmosphere.” He said eventually. “In any of the villas. But other than seeing you’re okay? I'm staying out of the actual argument please. So are Tin-Tin, Gordon and John. "
“That’s only two out of five brothers." Penelope said quietly.
“Alan is heading to Thunderbird Five two days earlier than he was meant to. John changed his mind and was going to let Alan owe him another week seeing as you weren’t there anymore? but I think Alan’s trying to escape too. " Brains said. “And his, Alan’s I mean. His stance is ‘I told you so’. but I'm not sure which side of the argument. Although John asked you to call him, and you can tell him your side of the story.”
“Our own little ‘bitch sesh’.” Penelope said, sipping her drink to avoid pursing her lips. “And Virgil's?"
Penelope wished she hadn’t asked. Brains’ face fell.
“Virgil isn't speaking to anyone." He said sadly. "Last time I saw him he was holed up in Thunderbird Two making adjustments to the starboard’s main averting b-six aid access. And he had been for nearly ninety minutes!"
"Which bit is that? That he’s repairing."
"Oh. On the hatch in the cockpit, for storage." Brains corrected. "It keeps sticking."
“What a nuisance that must be." Penelope frowned. “Especially as Two’s pilot.”
“Quite. But. It shouldn’t take all that long to fix. And… I’m not sure I should say this?”
“And?” Penelope prompted anyway.
“And Virgil is not even acting as Scott’s confidant." Brains said.
“Oh…goodness, that is troubling."
“Hmm. Yeah.”
The pair sat in silence for a moment or few.
There was a splash, which served as a fitting distraction as any.
Tin-tin had at some point put on her cap and stripped down to her swimsuit. making use of the pool she’d hopped in for a dip and started doing steady lengths. Parker was looking h’after her stuff. He sat watching the sunbathers like a guard dog, daring any dirty old men to ogle or approach the young lady. It was quite sweet how protective he was of Tin-tin. Parker had acted much the same in Paradise Peaks, despite them being on assignment.
Deciding they’d be alright, Penelope sighed again and turned back to Brains.
"It wasn't in my itinerary, you know? To upset Virgil. I didn’t set out to do so on purpose.”
“I know.”
“Or Jeff actually. Certainly not to anger him. or Scott. or any of you for that matter-."
“don't.” Brains frowned interrupting. “I know that. With what was said, I believe it was needed, giving the operation. but the way it was put, it wasn't right.”
“That's rather the crux of the matter. rather than quite what was said itself.” Penelope admitted. Brains nodded, leaning his elbows on his knees. “Does he often do that with the rest of you?”
“No, not a lot. Although sometimes Mr Tracy says things in that tone without meaning too. But He does it to even Kranyo? I don’t like it when he does that.”
“I doubt Kryano does either. Well, thank you for your honesty… I knew I was in for a lecture. Or possibly at worst a telling off. I just hadn’t expected it levelled at me quite so bluntly or on a personal level.” Penelope complained. “Oh dear. But you are right. And I shouldn’t have shot back either. At Jeff. I'm afraid my own father was a ‘give them as good as back, son’ sort of approach too.”
“Mine tried.” Brains agreed. “So did the professor.”
“Oh?”
Brains very very rarely ever talked about his family life before the Tracy’s. Adopted or otherwise. But he was slightly more casual here, just for a brief moment.
“It didn’t take. Sending me to boxing classes to t-toughen me up just gave the school bully an easier target. Especially if I couldn’t see them in the ring without my glasses.” He said. And waved off any sympathy.
“H-how did your parents find it?” Brains asked and at her questioning look clarified, “Not following the life they’d planned for you? If that’s not too personal?”
“From you, no, not at all. Hmm. I think switching from scouts to the guides helped? But it was being made head girl and going to finishing school that finally won mater over.” Penelope shrugged. Something her old tutor would have struck her with a ruler for, speaking of. “As for my father? In his own words better a strong daughter then another waste of an heir like his brother was. Yours?”
“The professor didn’t really mind what I wore or what I changed, so long as I didn’t miss any classes.”
Brains didn’t elaborate any further. Penelope picked up the thread of conversation before the silence became awkward.
“I'm afraid I’ve made papa sound a brute. He wasn’t. He was a good man in most respects. although I don’t think he and Jeff would have gotten on at all.” She said. But the augment was still playing on her mind. and the subject circled back and reared its ugly head. “But speaking of Jeff and fathers. This isn’t a case of simply being grounded or getting into trouble with a local constable, is it?”
Brains shook his head, and Penelope continued. “And yet Jeff spoke to me like a child.”
“But what you did was incredibly risky? He’s right to think that.” Brains replied.
“I don’t need to hear any more of his Opinions.” Penelope said curtly. “…or his mothers.”
"If it helps Mrs Tracy called him and Scott foolish. For speaking to you like that. Individually. and idiots collectively " Brains put in.
"It does actually." Penelope said, a little cattily. "Given Grandmama Tracy cannot stand me, she must really be quite galled to be on my side."
“y-yeah. Well partly on your side.”
"Was she very rude about me?" Penelope grinned. Brains thought for a moment reanalysing.
“Urm…you do know Mrs Tracy says your name odd. Like it’s an insult?” He said warily.
“Oh, she always does that. That's why I call her Grandmama.”
“Oh. But Mrs Tracy hates that?”
“I know. She pretends to flirt with Parker, and she knows we all hate that.”
“I'm not certain it is pretend. Wait, is that why she called you a snob?”
“Is that all? Well, I am. That’s not terribly rude. if it’s true.” Penelope smiled sweetly. “She also thinks I'm a bad influence on you Tin-tin and the boys. And Jeff to boot.”
“Really? I don’t believe it.”
“She told me that herself. And you’ve my word it’s the truth.”
"I don’t understand why you find that funny?” Brains said, “Oh well. Other than that Mrs Tracy wasn't so rude as to call you anything but ‘her majesty!’ behind your back… But that was before the fight."
“It was hardly a fight! Nothing was broken or hit." Penelope disagreed.
"Well, what would yo-you call it then?"
Penelope thought. "A mild skirmish.” She said, “Or perhaps the start of a rift."
"I- I’m not going to call it that first one. But Mrs Tracy is being very vocal about everything being ’bang out of order’. And that she ‘raised you boys better’.” Brains said, with air quotations. “And she keeps dishing out chores. The villa is spotless. And Mrs Tracy is hand washing the dishes despite having the dishwasher. She only does that when she’s cross.”
Brains then smiled and lowered his voice unnecessarily, "Can you keep a secret, Lady Penelope?"
"Always dear.” Penelope whispered back, conspiring for juicy gossip. “Go on?"
"Mr Tracy even got middle named!" Brains chuckled. "He was complaining about Virgil’s hiding. And Mrs Tracy told him to pull his own socks up. Metaphorically. B-but he doesn’t know Gordon and I heard him."
"Oh my!” Penelope tittered. “Although if Gordon heard? then it will go around the island like wildfire."
“T-true True.” Brains smiled.
But then that smile slipped somewhat.
"I-I'm afraid there’s no way to avoid Scott’s fussing or temper by the way. He gets very worried about any of us getting hurt. You and me? We might not be one of his brothers but Scott? He's always trying to look out for everyone."
"I know." Penelope conceded. "I know. But the hypocrisy? He cannot throw himself into ridiculous scrapes himself then join in with berating me like a child!"
"I know.” Brains echoed. “He does it a lot. Even worse since that accident with the ‘dish Monte Bianco? the others call him smother hen.”
Virgil had called it that and some several more rather expletive things, she knew.
“Gordon says it’s a compliment?” Brains continued. “Too you I mean. That Scott cares for you. As one of the team”
“It didn’t feel like a compliment.” Penelope pouted. Not that she’d admit that. “He didn't have to jump in and agree with Jeff quite so eagerly either. And the dressing down from Mr Jeff Tracy? I maintain; it really felt like I was being spoken to like a child!”
“Hmm.”
Brains paused tapping his shoe nervously.
"I I do respect Mr Tracy, a great deal. But sometimes..."
Brains took a deep breath.
“Sometimes Jeff can be a little frustrating to deal with.” Penelope suggested. “And it feels like he doesn’t take one seriously.”
“You hit the pr-pro p. you’ve hit the nail on the head there as it were, Lady Penelope.” Brains paused again. “I wish sometimes…”
Penelope gave him a moment. But Brains changed tack.
"You were worried about him. Last April? so you insisted Mr Tracy took a holiday, correct?" he said, placing the cola on the table next to hers and the fake radio.
"I did.” She said, curious to see where he was going with this. “After a very insistent message from a little thunderbird-ie prompted it. But they were right."
"Oh. I didn't know that bit… but You still had Mr Tracy’s best interests at heart, right?"
" I hoped so."
Jeff had been very against it…
"But then Scott burnt out trying to be in charge?" Brains said. "Even before the seascape called in. And Mr Tracy came back only to the island."
"I remember." Penelope said. This time it was her turn to pause before speaking. “I felt like I was being blamed without him saying so.”
"Hmm. he doesn’t like it. not being in charge?” Brains said. Penelope agreed. “But at the same time, he’s never given Scott any training or expertise into stepping up. He just expects Scott to ‘know’ what to do. Same with Tracy industries. And it isn’t just Scott. It’s all five of them. I know they had a say in the matter of making the operations. But not so much in how it’s run sometimes. Or how it’ll run in the future.”
“Hmm.” Penelope smiled and put her shades back on. “And that makes it all alright, doesn’t it?”
“Lady Penelope?”
“Yes?”
"Your jaw is doing that thing it does on missions where you’re really angry but pretending to be helpless."
“Good grief Brains! Remind me never to play poker with you.”
“You can count cards!” Brains shot back. "I prefer chess anyway. Scott was right in the lounge though, w-with what he said.”
“Scott was rude.”
“But correct. You don’t have to prove that you’re indestructible. We know you aren’t, even if you act like it!”
Penelope did not hide her scowl this time. “I can manage, you know? I'm aware this latest ‘favour’ I’ve done for Jeff is more of a blot on my record than a gold star. But I’ve been living this lifestyle for longer than they have.”
“I k-know that! We all do. We were all worried!” Brains said and put his head in his hands. He didn’t look up when spoke.
“He was right. So was Mr Tracy. but the way it was put wasn't. He does it to his brothers all the time! even when they’re out on a rescue. And sometimes Mr Tracy? He speaks to them as their dad when they’re running through protocols. or as a commander when they need their father?”
"That's the trouble with a family business I suppose." Penelope sighed. She drew out a cigarette case and her holder. At exactly the right moment Parker just happened to be walking past to light it for her with just a flip of his zippo. Barely breaking his stride. Remarkable talent of that man.
"I get I am essentially an employee in a family run enterprise. Albeit a rather extravagant one. As well as a friend of said family." Penelope continued, exhaling smoke out. "But to get a dressing down so publicly? With the lot of you in earshot, and Scott as his second jumping in and backing him up? Call me spoiled but I'm not used to it. I wouldn't do that to anyone who works in my home or working under me invited to the house. it's unseemly!"
That last bit came out a little loud and had it not been for the anti-eavesdropping device then heads may have turned.
Brains stifled a cough through his nose. And Penelope made sure to blow smoke the other way.
"What about your err... previous employment?" he asked, waving smoke away from his face. “Did You never get in this sort of trouble with them?”
“Oh goodness all the time. Not so much in journalism, but I’ve had some HORRID directors and horrible bosses. Far worse than Jeff. Especially within the fashion industry. thank goodness for houses like François Lemaire!” Penelope sighed again. "But I can get away with kicking up a fuss right back if needs be behind the catwalk and cameras if something is wrong. especially on behalf of the newer or younger models. Brands don't want the press of being outed as underpaying or cutting corners... That wasn't what you meant, was it dear?”
Brains shook his head. “Not really. But was there much difference? With modelling, interviews and being an agent.”
“The extortionate pay and more weapons pointed at my head.” Penelope quipped. Then really thought about it. “And bizarrely less sexism interestingly enough? Things were said to my face more, granted, but I could actively use that to an advantage.”
“Gee. T-that’s socially fascinating to observe. But I would not like to step into either of those worlds. With the exception of consulting and inventions.” Brains said. Then laughed. “Wait? You know those tacky souvenirs that say things like ‘you don’t have to be mad to work here-?
“But it helps.” Penelope said. “Yes, I know the ones you mean.”
“Well, I think we don’t have to be mad where we work?”
Penelope chuckled right back. “But it helps. True, very true.”
“I b-believe I might know what I'm contributing to the Secret Santa.” Brains said, making a note in his pocketbook. “”
“That’s very apt. regardless of whose name you pull out.” Penelope agreed. “What’s the limit this year by the way?”
The worst-best present was a Tracy Tradition. Had been since the boys had been pocket money age. save buying four presents each. And Grandma receiving five of the same mug or tea towel. The categories had become more wilder but if anything, the price limit had come down, to maintain the challenge.
“Gordon says up it to twenty dollars. but Alan wants to be extra hard and say ten.”
“I could be a bounder and include the postage then.” Penelope said, not meaning it really. “You get that slogan. I’ll contribute something with Alice in Wonderland. We're all mad here!”
“I'm sensing a theme.” Brains stammered.
“Let’s see if they notice. Mind I suppose Tracy Island is a wonderland somewhat.” Penelope smiled. “All your brilliant ideas? the bravery, the secrets.”
Brains however wasn’t laughing.
“Will you stay? In the organisation.” He said, suddenly serious and switching topics. It threw her, just a little.
“Why should I?!” Penelope retorted. She hadn’t thought of quitting. Not really. But she could!
“I can give you a list of reasons if that wasn’t rhetorical.” Brains replied.
“I don’t need a list.” She frowned. Penelope went to take another drag of her cigarette only to find it had burnt up.
“Can I ask why you don’t just fly back to England then?” Brains asked as she stubbed it out in the ashtray.
“No.”
The voice didn’t normally allow for any argument to bode. But Penelope wasn’t having much luck in being intimidating. Must be something with the factor seventy sunscreen.
“I m-maybe wrong but I think you were hoping someone would come. Here, from the island. To find you.” Brains challenged. “I like to think you’re giving them a chance to get their act t-together.
“Think what you like!” Penelope said. And in Trying to Give him the brush off, she snatched up her book again. She even started reading it again to ignore him. Unfortunately, she had it Upside down. And didn’t realise for a beat too long she was so annoyed. Still Penelope Powered through it. even tuning the pages. Brains in turn turned in his seat. and looked out over the same spot as she’d spent most of the day doing. He sipped his cola, politely ignoring her ignoring him.
“G-good book?” he asked eventually.
“Awful.” Penelope said, calmer. Brains was annoyingly very good at being a good influence. “And not in a way so bad it’s entertaining.”
“Ah. S-shame. Not even if it’s read the wrong way r-round upside down and back to front?”
“Not even then, darling.” She said, putting it back down. And steeled her courage to the sticking place. “And… going back to your question. admittedly I couldn’t face the flight. Home. Or Back to the island.”
Brains frowned. “Do you mean physically or psychologically?”
“Both-.”
“Lady Penelope-!” Brains interrupted.
“well-!” she interrupted right back. Goodness, this felt horribly vulnerable! “I just wasn’t in the mood for another argument. And a long-haul flight, even in a Fireflash, sounded extremely inadvisable at this point.”
“Are you in pain?” Brains asked. Then eyed her glass suspiciously. “Should you be drinking that on medication?”
“Now you sound like a Tracy. It’s a mocktail. I’m not so foolish to get white girl brit-abroad wasted, thank you! Not with bruises.” Penelope said, stirring it for emphasis. And gave a little scowl. “It's mostly fruity and syrup. Parker was right, this isn’t even close to a cocktail.”
“So, if you aren’t drinking a-alcohol, does that mean you are taking pain relief?”
“Yes, Brains I am.”
“The full prescribed dosage?”
Penelope didn’t dignify that with a straight answer. Brains pushed his glasses back up his nose and continued to stare incredulously at her till Penelope explained.
“I didn’t want to take them. They’re so strong. They make me woozy, and I cannot stand how at odds with my own limbs they make me feel.” She grumbled. “I came here to relax, not to be comatose.”
“You came to the island to relax. You went to recover enough to get out of any questions from the press.” Brains corrected. And sighed,
“Mr Tracy’s really gotten to you, hasn’t he?”
“I meant it when I said think what you like.” Lady Penelope said coolly. “I'm here and he’s there. And he’ll still be behind his desk when I get home.”
“Is that your solution for dealing with uncomfortable situations?” Brains accused. “j-just run away and hide.”
“Better to hide in plain sight then get caught." Penelope sniffed.
“That's not denying running away.” Brains retorted.
“It was hardly a run. Given how long it took to repack my bags.” Penelope said, Losing her temper with another old friend. It wasn’t a burning fiery thing this time; this burnt like ice. “And don’t act as if he has never upset you either? Or that you’ve never buried yourself in work to avoid Jeff. Scott told me about the smashed models.”
That last bit she added Rather unfairly. Beastly even. Penelope regretted it the instant she said it. Brains regarded her for a moment, and she thought he might get up and leave that time. She wouldn’t blame him.
Instead, he grumbled, "You’re all very alike y-you know? In that you're all sorry about how you spoke to each other but too stubborn to a-actually apologise. Plus, you’re British and not going to admit he upset you. Really upset you."
"For someone who just said he'd rather watch from the side-lines, you know a lot about how people tick Brains.”
“For someone who’s so cool under pressure she frustrates the Hood? you can be one heck of a hot head sometimes, Lady Penelope!”
Penelope considered he had a point. But didn’t verbally say so.
“What was in your cola to make you so direct today?” she said instead.
“Why didn’t you ask for help?” he replied instead.
“Because I do not always need to be rescued.” Penelope stated. “I’m not a damsel in some story. For every concern Parker or I have called the boys in, there must be a dozen or so missions I handle. sometimes without most of you even being aware of until afterwards.”
“I know.” Brains said quietly. “But you did need rescuing in that situation. Or should have been? And you didn’t ask for help.”
“I am aware, Brains. Hindsight is a marvellous thing.” She snipped. “Unfortunately, I was too late in my decision making.”
“P-Penelope? You were hurt.”
Maybe it was the fact he’d dropped the title? Or it was the unsaid parallels to another tragedy. but Penelope didn’t interrupt.
“In an avalanche of all things. And at one point even missing? And knocked unconscious. Enough to scare us all.” Brains said. “That might be the reason Mr Tracy was, either consciously or not, hard on you. But… It is frustrating that we’re an organisation that helps people; but we’re bad at looking out for each other. Especially to how everyone is feeling, e-emotionally.”
“…Brains, I shouldn’t have snapped at you. Or brought up the Thunderbird Six planning.” She said in a hush. “I'm sorry.”
“Thanks.” Brains nodded. Then added, “A -also how much did he tell you? About the model I broke?”
Penelope was Not glad to change the subject as such. But certainly, latching on to it.
“So, it was on purpose then?” Penelope asked.
“no.” Brains defected. “Frustration? yeah…Failure isn’t an option. Even just demonstrations and trials.”
“He said it was more than one.”
Brains looked up at that, worried.
“S-Scott knew about the other models?”
“No. You just told me.” Penelope pointed out. Brains’ mouth opened and closed twice before just settling on silently frowning. “Scott said they’d been other pitches…and then even after repurposing Alan’s biplane, you seemed to lose confidence in yourself for a little while. That was clear even to Parker and myself.”
“wouldn’t you? nothing was good enough.” Brains frowned. “Nothing I made was what Mr Tracy had in mind.”
This time Lady Penelope did reach across the gap to squeeze his arm. It was more on his sleeve if anything. She didn’t wish to overwhelm the poor fellow.
“There’s no shame in wanting to work to a specification.” She tried.
“Or wanting to stick to the mission.” Brains countered in agreement. “Just please have ah- an extra b- backup plan next time, Lady Penelope? And be more careful around missions with snow.”
Lady Penelope promised she would.
“Annoyingly, I'm normally rather good at them. And please don’t be cross about the models? Scott didn’t tell me a lot. Virgil and John filled me in a little more. It wasn’t gossip, they were worried for you, dear boy.” She continued. “But they told me enough to make me wish you’d gotten to be on board your airship’s maiden voyage. Even if it did get sabotaged and end up a rather dangerous affair.”
“Me too. I’d have liked to see the Sky Ship launch at least. Even if it had just been from inside a Thunderbird.” Brains said, a little wistfully. “Maybe if they ever build a second one? Ah-although I doubt it after the cost of the damage I caused-”
“You get that idea out of your head this instant!” Penelope scolded. Brains looked up at her, shocked. Whether it was her Tone of voice, or he hadn’t meant to say that bit aloud, she didn’t care.
“You didn’t cause Skyship’s nosedive into a controversial missile base.” She reminded him. “Those villains who killed the crew and then one another did. You saved us. The shoot-out caused the crash. None of the blame rests on your shoulders.”
“I know but it was my design-?” he tried.
“Absolutely none of the events are your fault and the blame does not rest on your shoulders. If anyone has said otherwise, then they are exceptionally stupid.” Penelope challenged. “And if you argue that it is your fault even out of misplaced guilt or the like, I will personally throw you in that pool, in what you are wearing right now!”
“You y-you’re not meant to lift anything heavy or do anything strenuous for at least two weeks?!”
“Then I will get Parkers and Tin-tin’s assistance. Don’t think I won’t!”
Brains gulped.
“…I-I don’t think I’ve ever known you so cross.”
“Likewise!”
“First at Mr Tracy, then me.”
“Jeff was being, pardon my language, an arse. you dear are listening to your insecurities. No one gets to make you feel small, Brains. not even your own thoughts.” Penelope said stubbornly.
Brains nodded slowly. And sighed, “I know the actions of others weren’t my fault. And no one said t-they were. The opposite in fact. But like you said earlier? About being blamed. It wasn’t in my control what happened. But I still feel bad?”
“And that was only after it crashed. I felt bad about being laughed at and I think that reflected in everything else I worked on for a while. And how I was with the Tracy’s.” Brains admitted. “I can design incredible machines. I know that. but having no brief made it e-extra challenging when its s-shouldn’t have been. And then the answer had been under our noses the entire time.”
“isn’t it just like that sometimes?”
“Hmm…also I’ve never heard you swear before? That’s t-twice in an hour now.”
“I blame the heat. It’s clearly getting to me.”
“If Mr Tracy apologises, Will you forgive him? and stay?”
Penny withdrew her hand.
“And if he doesn’t?” she suggested.
No one had called her. No one had stopped her leaving Tracy Island in the first place.
“Well, then my analyzation of the situation would be wrong. But I very much doubt Tin-tin and the Tracy brothers would let you leave without a fight. especially if you called Virgil. Middle brother and chief peacekeeper.”
“Why should I be the one to extend the olive branch?”
“Would I be here if you h-had? Because they're trying to give you space and also they are g-genuinely terrified of upsetting you further.” Brains said. “Scott will say he’s sorry the moment you get him on a private call. He’s admitted aloud he messed up.”
“If he messed up, then so did I. Disastrously so.” Penelope admitted. “With such an abysmal rookie mistake too. I'm surprised I wasn’t let go of on the spot.”
Brains had unfortunately taken a swig of his drink and nearly choked on it.
“Let Go!? You a-are our top agent!”
“That, I doubt.” Penelope said. “I failed a mission, old boy. Regardless of the weather and the results. The only reason that microfilm was recovered was sheer dumb luck. I didn’t even complete the task, Parker did it for me. All for what? a twisted ankle, bruised ribs and the whole island laughing at or scolding me!”
“We weren’t laughing!”
“It certainly felt like it.”
“w-what did you just tell me about not listening to your own thoughts?” he tried. “I c-could throw you in the pool!”
“Could you? Try it. Dear.” Penelope challenged, with an eyebrow.
Brains slowly backed down. Not without a complaint.
“Why is throwing people and t-things in the pool the biggest threat in my life recently?”
“You are a gentleman.”
“I mean it though. You’re both our friend and the best agent.” Brains insisted. “You go across the world for us, not just London. You’re the only agent he trusts to have a direct link too. And your portrait hangs on the wall. The only one of our networks. Alongside his own sons.”
“…And what if I’m sick of hiding in plain sight?”
It was very quietly asked. She wasn’t sure Brains had heard it. Penelope was about to pretend she hadn’t said it at all and carry on when he spoke again.
“Can you go without? The trills and the subterfuge.” Brains asked. “Sometimes I'm sick of being an inventor. But if I didn’t create? I’d die!”
“Spoke like a true artist…No. I doubt I could retire even if I needed to. And it has been the only enterprise I’ve been in in my life with some moral backbone.” Penelope admitted. “But I know one thing.”
“What’s t-that?”
“I definitely wasn’t made for relaxing when forced too.”
“M-most definitely a Tracy trait.”
“Tosh. I told you, I'm a bad influence on them, remember? But truly, shall we get out of here?” Penelope suggested. “I believe you said our favourite technician mentioned a trip out?”
“I b-believe I did. That's a good idea.” Brains grinned. “So long as this m-means you’re not cross with me for coming out here.”
“No. I'm rather glad you did.” Penelope smiled. “Give me time to change and arrange the car with Parker.”
“I’ll go let Tin-tin know.” Brains agreed getting up. “When will you be back?”
“Will you be coming with us?” Penelope asked with a frown.
“Hmm, no. not s-shopping at least. But I might come for the drive.” He said, “There's also p-plenty of galleries and museums in the town. and a rather fun shooting range just outside of it. Most of us prefer it to the island one even.”
“Oh darling, you love dressing room montage, and you know it.” Penelope teased. “Here. A toast?”
Brains was bemused. But raised his glass anyway. “T-to what?”
“To the whims of Jeff Tracy.” Lady Penelope joked, “And what we put up with sometimes for international rescue.”
“I’ll drink to that.” He beamed. And clinked his glass to hers.
“Oh, and Brains?” She asked. The scientist turned back.
“Y-yes, Penelope?”
“Thank you. For this.” she said sincerely. “I think a ‘little chat’ was long overdue. And far more needed than a holiday.”

Final thoughts on the Grand Final before I'll shut up about Eurovision for the rest of the year...
The Show
Gotta admit that I didn’t like it because I was hoping they’d be doing more to celebrate Ukraine since they actually won last year. It felt more like the Big UK Show and… yeah, that’s defo not what I tuned in for.
The Jury Votes
I do not understand how a small group of so-called experts can have so much power over the results. It shouldn’t be like that at all. Also: letting the juries place their votes before the actual final makes no sense to me. They should have to place their votes based on the actual final performance. Anything else is just bullshit.
The Official Winner
No surprise here, which is probably what disappointed me the most. I don’t think "Tattoo" is a bad song. It’s just one of those ESC entries that were purely designed to please the juries and I'm sorry, but Sweden does this pretty much every year and I’m tired of it. Like, maybe sticking to more or less the exact same formula for nearly a decade really is the key to success, but it’s also incredibly lazy imo.
I actually feel bad for Loreen, though, because none of this is her fault. Käärijä was clearly the public’s favorite and to know that you only won thanks to the juries who are famously - and rightfully - hated by the public must sting at least a little bit. (Sweden winning right on time for the ABBA anniversary thingy also seems suspiciously convenient, but I don't have the time or energy to go and make assumptions.)
The Real Winner
It’s the boy from Vantaa who cha cha cha’d too close to the sun. (Seriously, though: check out his other songs, he’s really good. And check out Finland, too! It's a beautiful country full of beautiful people who deserve way more credit than they usually get.) This dude has brought me such joy over the past few weeks, I'm genuinely heartbroken over the results. He and his team did their very best, but apparently the juries have zero tolerance for out-of-the-box thinking.
Käärijä won the public vote by a landslide and at the end of the day, that’s the only thing that truly matters, but still. Despite Ukraine’s win last year, rap is still painfully underrepresented in the contests and that’s a shame if you ask me. Like, there’s only so much jury-friendly pop I can take before my brain shuts off automatically.
Who Else Was Robbed
Austria, Moldova, LATVIA, and - and I can’t believe I’m actually writing this because I’m basically conditioned to hate my home country’s entries no matter what - Germany. I didn’t like "Blood & Glitter" as a song choice at all, but the stage-performance was solid. (Welp, at least we didn’t receive zero points this time.)
In Conclusion
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I do believe that Eurovision is completely ridiculous, but it’s also a great opportunity to explore European music and to get together with your friends and collectively yell at the TV in the middle of the night, which is always fun I guess. I had a lot of issues with this year's contest, so here’s hoping that the next one will be better and - most importantly - less predictable.

Back on my willow shit after mourning the removal of the show (and forcing my friend to watch it). So here’s my Tanthamore playlist with explanations for each song
- Crimson and Clover by the Pom Pom squad: this one’s obvious
- I’m on fire by Soccar Mommy: also just because it’s in the show but the lyrics about bad desire feels very repressed queer love so it’s a tanthamore song now. I don’t make the rules.
-Bags by Clairo: the lyrics are very kit running away in episode 1 plus Clairos vibes are just so tathamore.
- Ceilings by Lizzy McAlphine: this songs lyrics gives me Jade’s internal monologue after the kiss in episode 1.
- I am yours by Churchill: this goes on every ship playlist I make because it’s so cute and it’s just about being devoted to someone else and thinking about it with them makes me FERAL!
- Cherry Wine by Hozier: the soft guitar feels very fantasy to me, plus the lyrics feel Jade talking about kit.
- Trees by The Oh Hellos: this is a childhood friends to lovers song and it makes me think of them as little kids not knowing their in love with each other 🥺
- Dear Arkansas Daughter by Lady Lamb: I blame edits. It’s Jades pov from episode 5 when she’s a little mad at kit in the wildwood. “you with the dark curls, you with the water colour eyes, you who bares all your teeth with every smile.” Like cmon that’s so kit.
- Like or Like Like by Minature Tigers: again it’s a childhood friends to lovers song but like more current. The sort of will they won’t they from episode 1-5.
- Another Story by The Head and the Heart: this one is mostly vibes but I feel like it gives the way home from the quest and moving forward together. It’s them choosing each other in the end.
- Without You by Oh Wonder: it’s a PINING song okay so therefore it’s a jade song.
- Softly by Clairo: this song is a Kit song about falling for jade. And I’ll say it once I’ll say it again. Clairo has tanthamore vibes.
- Dear Wormwood by the Oh Hellos: the title sounds so close to wildwood and the vibes are super fantasy esc. It’s very much jade’s arch learning who she truly is and what she wants and how that change was sprung by the wildwood.
- Home by Edward sharp and the magnetic zeroes: this song is a classic and it’s just so cute. It’s them acknowledging their each others home 🥺
- Gemini by Tash Sultana: this is also a kit song and her admiring her feelings for jade.
- Fight or Flight: pretty sure I got this song from an edit and went yes I agree. It’s a kit song and her dealing with her weird feelings for Jade. “I’d rather lie they tell you I’m in love with you” like that’s so wildwood truth plums.
- Heavy Feet by Local Natives: this is them both being unable to admit their feelings contrasted with when they finally say what they needs to and their “left in the sun, shivering”
- Soldier, Poet, King by The Oh Hellos: there is no band with more fantasy vibes then the oh hellos. Kit is the soldier, Jade is the Poet and Elora is the King. I will not debate, I could write an essay proving this.
- Two Birds by Regina Spektor: I saw one edit and it went on the playlist. Kit is the one that says “cmon” and Jade says “I’m tired” need I say more?
- Until I Found You by Stephen Sanchez: the EDITS. The lyrics are just so bloody romantic it will go on every ship playlist imaginable but it hits particularity hard for them. “Never let you go again” so makes me think of end of episode 6 beginning of 7 when Jade almost looses kit.
- Bloom by the Paper Kites: again just so totally, completely, desperately romantic. it had to go on the playlist the gods demanded it.
- Will We Talk? By Sam Fender: again just the idea of them finally saying what they haven’t. I can also see an au where they meet as a one night stand (which is what the song is about).
- Would That I by Hozier: the edits Plus the image of a willow tree in the first verse made me associate it. Also so bloody romantic.
- Sleep on the Floor by the Lumineers: the idea of running away together feels very Kit trying to convince Jade to go with her in episode 1.
- Pretty Firl by Clairo: you thought I was done with the Clairo songs? Think again. It’s Jade willing to wear a dress and become a “pretty girl” to support Kit.
- Croses by José González: this is a kit song. Her talking about her trauma and the “well cast sunlight and you’ll be alright” is Jade.
- the colour violet by Tory Lanez: this one is vibes alone and because there were so many edits of this song.
- Start a Riot by Banners: this song is just what they’d both to for each other very much the sentiment of “when you love someone you jump off the edge of the world to get to them” and it FITS SO WELL.
- Gajendra by Willow and Jahnavi Harrison: again the Willow association felt right. And the vibes of “I depend on you alone” is so tanthamore.
- Bad Idea by Girl in Red: it’s so sapphic panic and “oh fuck we have feelings we need to address” because of this it goes on every playlist.
- Sound and Colour by Alabama Shakes: the song gives me jade vibes and it’s honestly vibes alone but I don’t care.
- I’ll Call You Mine by Girl in Red: it’s so GAY and so ROMANTIC and it’s one of the first songs I thought of when I made this playlist and then I saw an edit immediately after and I just about died.
- Cosmic Love By Florence and the Machine: Florence only writes character songs so this is my obligatory contribution to this playlist. Song has fantasy vibes and has the same dramatic vibes as the banners song.
- Morning Dove by Genevieve Stokes: this one’s all vibes and because the dove had a vague association but it’s a good ass song.
- Like Real People Do by Hozier: cmon this is probably the most romantic song ever written. It’s very kit finally kissing Jade to me because “I will not ask you where you came from.. just put your sweet lips on my lips, we should just kiss like real people do.”
- Homecoming Heroes by the Head and the Heart: this is so Kit and jade imaging having adventures in the world together. It’s such a cute image.
- Love Ain’t Enough by the Barr Brothers: this is so Kit at the end admitting love is the most powerful thing in the universe (specifically her love for jade).
- Falming Hot Cheetos by Clairo: “I wanna be the one you think about at night, I wanna be the one that you would put up a fight for” LIKE THAT IS SO JADE!! I can’t even it fits so good.

Warnings: more pining, flirtatious behavior, sexual innuendoes, Rhett and Abby having straight up dirty thoughts.
Notes: A huge shout out to @a-reader-and-a-writer for all her help with this series so far. Providing pictures for my header, beta reading and lots of encouragement. I love you, Vee ❤️

Series masterlist
Walking Amy to school was becoming a regular occurrence. Several times a week Rhett would follow her there, but what he liked most was picking Amy up again. It usually allowed him to steal a few moments of Miss Miller's time, while Amy would play with the Hanson kids.
After a while the conversations gradually turned beyond pleasantries, slowly turning longer and deeper as he learned all about your life back in Laramie. Daughter of a university professor and granddaughter of a politician, you came from a wealthy family, born into the higher society. But your interest had always been books and you soon realised your passion for teaching.
But there had also always been a sense of adventure, wanting to experience more than just the comforts of the big city. Which is how you found yourself here now, in Wabang of all places. It was close enough for your parents to visit, but far enough away for you to get a life of your own. And you already had big dreams, hoping to open a library or bookstore in town one day.
Rhett listens intently as you speak about your love for books, about your favourite authors. He’s putting some of them to memory, hoping one day it’ll come in handy.
“I think that’s mighty impressive. I can barely read.” Rhett says, honestly impressed.
“Would you like me to teach you?”
Rhett looks into your eyes, already seeing the excitement hidden there, followed by that beautiful smile of yours. He didn’t care much if he can read or not, but if teaching him can make you smile like that? Well, that’s a no-brainer.
“Uh, sure. Not really sure if you can, though. I have a record of being a bad student.”
“I bet I could make you wanna learn.” You say, your voice innocent and sweet, but the words make Rhett think anything but innocent thoughts. He’s already certain that sweet voice of yours could make him do anything. Read a few pages? Sure.
He wouldn’t mind having you boss him around. He hates when his Pa tells him what to do, but you? He might just give you the whole world, if you asked.
“Well, if you’re gonna teach me how to read, is… Is there anything I can teach you?”
His voice drops low, his suggestive tone unmistakable. He knows he shouldn’t do this, but you bring it out in him. Oh, the things he could teach you. Something tells him you’re as pure as they get, never felt the touch of a man. He would gladly be the one to teach you about pleasure. Teach you how to use that pretty mouth of yours for other things than just reciting the works of Robert Louis Stevenson. He bets his name would sound exquisite coming from your lips followed by breathy moans.
Clearing his throat, he tries to compose himself, his cock already hardening at the thoughts in his mind. Shifting a little, he tries to hide it, before returning his gaze to you.
“Well… I do think you have something else entirely on your mind, Mr. Abbott,” you say softly, your cheeks turning pink under his gaze, “But I could use help with the woodpile at home. You see, I have no idea how to chop wood.”
“Not what I was thinking of, no.” he admits, licking his lips as they move into a smirk. “But I’ll gladly do whatever work you put before me.”
Unable to speak, maybe perplexed by the whole conversation, you give him a flustered smile. Knowing that he could make you feel this way, makes him proud. Makes him think there might be a chance of winning your heart one day.
“I’ll be there first thing in the morning,” he promises, before he gestures to leave. He really should get Amy home before supper. After a few feet, he turns with a grin, “School’s out on Saturdays, right? I never really went, so I don’t know.”
A small giggle escapes you, the sound making the dormant butterflies in his stomach flutter once more. Right there, he makes a promise to himself. If he’s ever lucky enough to have you as his, he’ll spend the rest of his life making you laugh.
“Yes, Mr. Abbott. School’s out on Saturdays.”
Looking down, you bite your lip softly, that soft rosy pink still on your cheeks. Swallowing hard, Rhett wonders if he’s ever seen anyone as innocent yet alluring as you? Had you been any other woman, he might not have been able to compose himself.
Before he does anything stupid, he bids you farewell and lead Amy home. She talks about her day, but Rhett doesn’t hear a word, his mind filled with your sweet smile and the prospect of a day in your company.
Looking out into the yard behind your little farmhouse, you’re certain your mother would give you a slap over your hands and teach you a lesson on ladylike behaviour if she could see you right now. Fortunately, she wasn’t here to distract you from the sight that held you captive.
When you mentioned to Mr. Abbott yesterday you didn’t know how to chop firewood, you’d expected him to just teach you quickly, not take over. He was working through the entire pile and the sight was definitely an enjoyable one. Not that you’d ever admit it to anyone. You are a respectable lady. A schoolmistress, no less. You shouldn’t have had any thoughts about Mr. Abbott and how he looked chopping wood.
Standing at the window nearest the woodshed, lip bitten between your teeth and chin resting on your hand as you watch Rhett lift a large log onto his shoulders over to the stump designated for the chopping. He managed to make it look easy, like it didn’t faze him.
He had foregone many of his layers, hat placed on a stump beside him. His usual button-up is slung over the fence, leaving Rhett in his white union suit, indecently unbuttoned, showing off his collarbones and chest. The sleeves are rolled up to his elbows displaying his toned forearms, the muscles working with each swing of the axe. His suspenders dig deliciously into his shoulders and his chest captured fetchingly, the fabric of the undershirt clinging to his body.
Your mother would certainly give you an earful if she’d seen you. It’s unbecoming, not very ladylike and most certainly not decent to watch him with such impure thoughts. How he could easily lift you up over his shoulder. How nice it must feel to be pulled into his strong arms, your cheek against his warm chest. How big his hands look around the handle of the axe and what the muffled grunts are doing to you.
There is just something about the way his shoulders tense as he brings the axe over his head before bringing it down with hard strokes, cleaving the logs with ease. Something about the beads of sweat on his forehead that catches your eye, as you follow one down his nose to his lips.
Rhett Abbott certainly was a whole lot of man. He could capture your attention just by being near you. He was incredibly handsome, but what made him special was his nature. So kind and gentle, he always made sure to look out for others. A great uncle, a devoted son. Every act of service is a sign of his appreciation to his family, to his community.
You can’t stop yourself as your wonder what it would be like, being married to Rhett. To lie beside him on cold nights, those large palms sliding soothingly over your hips, your thighs, your… breasts. You flush at the thought, suddenly feeling warmer. Inhaling sharply, your mind wanders back to his hands wrapped around you, that deep soothing voice rumbling against your skin.
A breathy sigh leaves your lips at the thought, as you see Mr. Abbott cleave yet another log. Muscles working hard under the burning sun, his union suit slowly turning wetter. Clinging to that perfect chest. Shaking your head, you try to tear your eyes away, when suddenly you hear a loud grunt.
Mr. Abbott is cupping his right hand, blood running between the fingers. Quickly you run to him with a cloth, ushering him towards the house.
“Oh, dear, Mr. Abbott. What happened?”
“I just got clumsy, is all.”
He sits down at your small dining table while you find some water. Returning, you take his hand in yours, cleaning the blood away. It’s not very deep, but maybe you should still stitch him up.
“I think I should…” you stop, when you see the way, his eyes search yours. His face soft as he takes you in. Voice caught in your throat, you’re speechless as you stare into those deep blue eyes. Eyes you could easily look into forever.
“You think what, Miss Miller?” he asks softly, leaning in closer, his face now mere inches from yours. He is so close, you can feel his breath on your skin.
“I… I should” you try, but stop when Mr. Abbott comes even closer, his lips almost brushing against yours. Oh, how easy it would be to close the distance and press your lips against his. You feel a hand cup your face, his thumb rubbing circles into your soft cheek.
“Rhett?! You here?!”
His hand drops from your cheek immediately, pulling away from you just in time for his brother to show up at your open door. Taking his hat off, he greets you politely, before addressing Mr. Abbott.
“Pa needs you to come home. There’s a problem with the Tillersons again.”
Muttering curses, Mr. Abbott stands and walks out the door to find his discarded clothes near the woodpile, while his brother tells him about the trouble at home. You don’t listen, knowing it would be impolite, so you just wait patiently for them to finish. Now fully dressed again, much to your dismay, Mr. Abbott approaches you again as he closes the final button.
“I’m sorry, Miss Miller. I have to go. The Tillersons…. Well, it’s a story for another time.” He pauses, putting the bottom of his shirt down his pants. Before you can reign in your thoughts, you wonder what he might be hiding in those trousers.
“Miss Miller?”
Mr. Abbott’s deep, smooth voice pulls you out of yet another daydream. You find it harder and harder to focus around him, feeling things you’ve never felt before. Just these thoughts of late, have never happened before him. Knowing how flustered you may seem, you try to compose yourself, trying to act unaffected by him and his words.
“Yes?”
“I was just saying I’m sorry about the firewood. I can come back and finish another day.” he leans in closer, taking your hand in his, placing a soft kiss on your knuckles. “And I can’t wait for my first lesson.”
Thank you so much for reading <3

Ekhem so about polish eliminations for ESC, i watched all the performances (that were available online or if not, I lietened to the songs alone) and here are my thoughts that nobody asked for
Ahlena „Booty”
no wonder TVP’s tight ass couldn’t handle it. Personally I don’t really like it, but it doens’t mean it’s bad. And I just read that there was a “scandal” because of the “obscene lyrics”, god I hate them, Rosa Chemical drama 2.0 but make it polish. Gatekeeping ass for secretly gay, right wing politicians is getting boring.
6/10
Alicja Szemplińska „New Home”
amazing voice, real talent, very ESC-y, but also I’m a firm hater of ballads unless they fucking slap me on the ground with lyrics which didn’t happen.
7/10 for voice
Blanka Stajkow „Solo”
JUST SAW THAT THIS CHAV PERFORMED AT SYLWESTER MARZEŃ, SOMEONE PUT ME DOWN
10 seconds in and this bitch can’t sing. Are those Ariana Grande’s clones dancing around her? God. Me slowly going insane, realizing that I’ve heard this already in very autotuned version while ironically watching sylwester marzeń. She’s more out of breath than me after climbing on the fourth floor, and trust me, this is bad. She’s more talking than singing, the lyrics are tragic, the dancing is making me want to puke. I can shame her because English is my second language: girl go learn English, or at least the words of your own song before singing it, because you clearly have no fucking idea what you’re saying. Another fucking Blanka bringing shame to Poland. Who’s conservative tiny dick her management sucked to let her win? The biggest scam since Rafał. I’m fucking fuming.
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
absolute fucking 0/10
Dominik Dudek „Be Good”
Is that biggening stolen from When the party’s over or am I tripping. Kinda Podsiadło vibe, I like it. Something I’d listen to on the car radio, but wouldn’t add to any of my Spotify playlist. Very chill.
7/10
Felivers „Never Back ”
YNGBLD is that you? Xd the inspiration is very visible but that’s ok, at least you’re not being Blanka. Kinda like it, again, I wouldn’t add it to my spotify but I like the overall vibe.
7,5/10
✨✨✨✨👑 Jann „Gladiator” 👑✨✨✨✨
Oh. OH. I completely understand the damn hype I saw on Sunday. Yes. YES. The outfit, makeup, public’s reaction. The overall vibe. The damn voice? Wow. The dancemoves? (checks how old he is) Daddy. Rosa Chemical but in Berlin club and make it bit emo. God I love talented slutty men.
THE FACT THAT JANN DIDN’T WIN SHOWS THAT THIS COUNTRY IS DOOMED. WITH JANN WE HAD AN ACTUAL CHANCE TO FUCKING WIN JKWBFHWJNERWHVNJWOBTHNJERHE I WANNA KILL SOMEONE
You’re my winner, i can snatch Blanka’s doczepy for you. Or idk, do womething so that you could replace her. I’m not even kidding.
Ahhhh 1000/10, on my way to listen more of his music because DAMN
Kuba Szmajkowski „You Do Me”
Nah.
5/10 at most (but after Jann it will all seem shit so xd)
Maja Hyży „Never Hide”
Don’t like her for some reason but let’s see. Well…nice hair.
4/10
Natasza Urbańska „Lift U Up”
Still not over what she did in the bathroom🕯️xd. Song mediocre at best. Something you can hear in the mall. And you don’t enjoy it.
3,5/10
Jan „Yan” Majewski („Champion”)
Ok not bad? But I’m not going crazy. The lyrics got me rolling me eyes, but I guess it’s this genre. Wouldn’t play it again but I don’t hate it. I like his voice.
6/10
Right, i’m gonna go and rage over the fucking idiots making Blanka win. Anyone want’s to go burn TVP with me?

unusual otp asks: 4, 7, 10, 11 😊
4. After a bad day, what would each member of your otp do to cheer the other up?
First of all, warm tea as a starter to a conversation, what happened that day. Both would agree that tea, popcorn lost in a pantry, cuddling under a blanket and cheesy romcom is the way to cheer the other one up. And mandatory petting the zoo, bc the zoo can sense dads feeling under the weather.
(I can also sense Nace offering Jan home-cooked dinner and Jan preparing board games night for Nace. But general strategy is the same - cuddling under a blanket, with a zoo on their laps and with tea in their hands)
7. Your otp has to spend some time apart for whatever reason. How would they bridge that time? How would they react upon seeing each other again? Would anything change?
It’s a later headcanon in my head, so I’m showing an example: Nace goes to a songwriting camp, Jan stays at home. First of all: daily texting about the day, laughing about the rest of JO, Igor/Ollie/turtles subscription and so on. Later in the evening - phone call or a Facetime, depends. And the conversation goes and goes. Reunion time - cuddles and kisses! I think the time spent apart let them “rest” a bit, but still nothing changes between them - everlasting love.
10. If your otp had met at a different point in time/their lives, what would change? Would they still end up together?
Hm, hard question. Had they met in 2020/2021… the crushing phase would have stayed longer bc they were still searching themselves. Maybe they would end up together.
11. What is your otp's most special moment? If they could travel back in time to relive it, would they? Would they change anything?
Right now I think - when they got together. Pre-season but before rehearsals, random cafe in Ljubljana, them wanting to hang out. Then Nace feels that sudden wave of bravery that helps him confess his feelings towards Jan and say “I love you”. Idk if they would travel in time to relieve it again. The only thing they would change is - to confess feelings earlier, but at the end of the day they felt that the time between the last preparty and Ljubljana pre-ESC gig was the best one.

Hey! Could you do a Max Brinly x reader one shot? Something fluffy and cute? It’d be really appreciated, thank you!
absolutely!! max always deserves more love so i am more than happy to oblige lol (keep in mind that it’s been a bit since i’ve written fluff and i have to read and correct my stuff by myself so im just trying my best!! hopefully y’all enjoy it despite the flaws though lol)
---
Sugar, Butter... Failure? (Max Brinly/GN!Reader, Fluff, One-Shot)
According to the romance novels you’d read and the Hallmark movies you’d watched, baking a pie with your boyfriend was supposed to be a cute, quirky, picture-esc little moment that went straight into photo albums and reminded you of love and warmth and joy…
According to the way the kitchen looked not even halfway into the recipe, though, it was feeling more like a scene from “The Play That Goes Wrong: Waitress Edition.”
“I promise it’ll go well, hon,” he’d said beforehand, smiling and pulling up the cherry pie recipe he had found to bake for his mom’s birthday. He was far more excited than you were at the prospect of covering the kitchen in flour and spending hours laboring over a single pie, but you loved him and his antics, and that meant you were obligated to follow along. You’d gone shopping for the ingredients earlier and it’d sort of tired you out a little, but again, love conquers all or whatever.
Really, it did all start pretty well. The two of you sat at the counter pitting cherries for a while, chatting about work and school, playing some music in the background. It felt homely and familiar, like the beginning to something memory-worthy.
“Wait, what is that? I haven’t even put anything in yet, it shouldn’t–“ Max started, walking over and opening it. Before he could finish, his eyes went wide and he quickly pulled out a half-empty
Then the smell of something burning came from the preheating oven.
box of the pizza the two of you had a few nights before. Apparently, he had still not broken his habit of putting things in the oven instead of the fridge because he insisted “it’ll take less time to reheat.”
That first one wasn’t too bad of a mistake, though. You both laughed it off and double-checked that nothing else was left in the oven, and then you started on adding some lemon juice and sugar to the cherries.
After that, Max scrambled to get the extracts and cornstarch while you grabbed the premade pie crust from the fridge. You bumped shoulders a few times, but nothing catastrophic happened. At least, nothing happened until he tried to slip past you to put the lemon juice back in the fridge and knocked the pie crust out of your hands.
It fell to the floor and shattered into crumbly, flaky crust bits. Max winced and groaned, looking at the scattered pie chunks with a pained expression.
“That was the only one, wasn’t it?” He asked. You nodded.
“And neither of us is up to leaving to go to the store for another one, aren’t we?” He asked, voice softly lowering in defeat. You nodded again.
He stood there for a minute, gritting his teeth, when his eyes suddenly lit up and he made a face that practically screamed “Eureka!”
“I can just make another one, right? We have flour and butter and stuff. I mean, it’d take a while, but it’s better than nothing, right?” He said, running over to the fridge and grabbing up what he assumed he needed before you could react. In the end, all you did was sigh and smile a little at the way he was beaming while he looked up several variations of “simple pie crust recipe short time”.
When he started to get a little ramped up, tossing things around and folding them like he was on The Great British Bake Off, you stepped back and carefully took your phone up and switched to the camera. As he pulled a series of intense, overly dramatic expressions, you zoomed into his face action-style, holding your laughter in as best as you could. You could hear him muttering little affirmations under his breath like the pie crust would absorb them. It was, in a way that only silly stuff Max did could be, adorable.
After about two minutes of that, though, Max pulled out a rolling pin and reached for the flour that was sitting on the edge of the counter. He gripped the bag for a second and tried to drag it over, but as he did, he noticed you recording. He jumped a little, eyes going wide… and the flour in his grip went flying.
It dropped down to the floor, landing with a smack. A massive, choking cloud of flour exploded into the air, covering everything in its path, including Max. In just about a second, he was coated head-to-toe in flour. He stared at himself for a moment, and then groaned. He looked sad at first, like losing the pie was a true tragedy, and you almost felt bad, but as he seemed to take it all in and looked around at the predicament he’d gotten himself into, he shook his head and shrugged cartoonishly.
“Oh god, I know, of course I’d freaking manage this. You can look and laugh, hon, I’m not that devastated. But, uh, can you come over and help when you’re done, please?” He said, breaking into a smile and chuckling a little under his breath. You giggled, but put your phone down and headed over to try and get the mess off of him. Before you could actually get over to him, though, he grinned and scooped up a handful of the flour off of the counter. You didn’t process what was coming before he threw it, so you stood there in shock as Max practically smothered you in flour.
“I’m sorry, but if we go down, we go down together!” He shouted, ducking away as you realized what he’d done. You darted over, ruffling his hair playfully in an attempt to dig the flour in deeper, and he pushed you away with a snort. The two of you tussled for a little bit, laughter and yelling filling the air the same way the flour did only minutes prior, and before you knew it, you were sitting on the floor, coated in a layer of flour, clutching your stomach from how hard you’d busted your gut. Max was in the same situation, his face red and his mouth and cheeks completely pushed up with how much he was smiling.
The two of you looked at each other, sitting and cracking up in an absolute disaster of a kitchen, and you realized that this was the cute, quirky, picture-esc little moment you’d been expecting all along.

My toxic trait is believing that alot of sappy country love songs, when looked at in a certain context, can either be seen from the point of view of someone absolutely adoring their horse and sees them as a platonic/familial life partner, or from the point of view of a horse with human-like intelligence that loves their human with all their heart and willing to do anything for them, and there's nothing that can change my mind.
Some examples:
5 foot 9 by Tyler Hubbard (this one reminds me of a horse just basically listing all the things he loves about his human and how lucky he is to have her)
Wild as you by Cody Johnson (this one reads as a cowboy wanting to tame a wild mustang and slowly gaining its trust to the point that the horse is comfortable with him, but he knows in his heart that the horse deserves to stay wild and free)
Home to me by Tenille Townes (I personally see this one as a horse going on a cross-country 'homeward bound' esc adventure to reunite with its rider, or a wild horse that bonds with a human and comes to see them as home and keeps returning to them, no matter how far it travels)
Beautiful Crazy by Luke Combs (same reason as 5 foot 9. Just a horse adoring how crazy his human is and how much he adores her for it.)
My Girl by Dylan Scott (this one's a bit iffy, but again, I can see it as being a horse (possibly even a rescue, by the 'she saved me' line) just adoring his human and knowing that she's his girl, she's his human, and no other human will take that away)
Hard to Love by Lee Brice (this one can kinda have two different ideas depending on how you look at it. If you look at it coming from the humans pov, it could be a guy trying to train and work with a mare with less abrasive methods than what he's been taught to use, but he messes up and slips back into these abrasive methods at times. But even then, the mare still comes back and wants to work with him cause she recognizes that he's trying and is willing to forgive. From a horse pov, this could be a horse that has behavioral issues due to a bad past, which causes him to lash out at his human, but despite this, she continues to work with him and love him, despite him having problems and being hard to love)
The Good Ones by Gabby Barrett (this one works except the one t-shirt line, but if you ignore that and look at it from the horses perspective, it's reads like a mare that previously been abused and mistreated until a kind cowboy takes her in and treats her with kindness and love for the first time, and she realizes she's finally found one of the good humans who genuinley cares about her and loves her)
Run to You by Lady Antebellum ((yes I know the shit they've tried to pull and fuck them for that, but I still need to bring this up cause this is what started this weird obsession of mine) this one always felt like a horse and rider who find comfort in eachothers company and use their bond as an escape from the stress of the world)
Somebody like You by Keith Urban (this one I have a very specific story for. This gives me the vibes of a lesson horse/lease horse that finds a human that they love and they feels is their person, and how they wants to love somebody like them cause they push them to be the best it can be.)
Some of these have their flaws, but Im willing to look past those to make a point. There's definitely more, and I'm currently working on a playlist. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk
I've been listening to country music all my actual life including while riding horses and I shit you not a whole world just opened up. This is fantastic. Thank you for this.

[BSTS] Main Story S4CH8 ‘Paradox of the Crumbling Sand Dune’ - EX Chapters
I don’t usually translate main story stuff but shit went down in these chapters lol
EX 1
-starless balcony, nighttime-
kasumi: Good work today~
sotetsu: Hey, good work on your closing performance.
kasumi: Thankfully it went off without a hitch. Man~ It was really rough this time. I caused my team all sorts of trouble as well. I'm glad we managed to salvage things somehow, but still, as a mob I'm quite ashamed.
sotetsu: Well, it's in the past now. By the way, what do you plan to do about Zakuro?
kasumi: I'm not planning to do anything. Zakuro is Team C's singer and my teammate. That's all there is to it.
sotetsu: You're not going to look into it any further than this then?
kasumi: I wouldn't be able to handle it if I poked the bush and a snake came out~ Even if I dealt with the snake, who knows what else may jump out. So what is it you're planning to do, Sotetsu?
sotetsu: I'm of the same opinion as you. For now I don't plan to get involved.
kasumi: That so.
sotetsu: I don't hold a death wish y'know. I get that this is a dangerous matter if touched carelessly. I am genuinely curious as to what's up with Zakuro's body though.
kasumi: ......
sotetsu: Rather, if it turns out Zakuro actually has a twin, what would you think about that?
kasumi: You’re saying what if he switched places with his older or younger twin brother? No matter how you put it, something like that's impossible. Even if they look identical, once you talk to them a bit you would be able to tell it's a different person.
sotetsu: Right? I know I suggested it, but even I think it's a nonsense theory.
kasumi: .......
kasumi: I know right. I think it's a fitting way to end this silly chat.

EX 2
cw: gun violence
-starless lobby-
saki: (It’s gotten quite late, usually I leave earlier…)
kongou: Are you heading home Saki-chan? Shall I escort you to the station?
gui: I’ll be escorting her.
kongou: I see, I won’t have to worry if Gui’s with you then.
gui: —Master?
kongou: Hm? Did something happen?
gui: Master is close by. I have to go.
-gui runs off-
saki: There he goes…
kongou: In that case I’ll esc—
-haseyama appears-
kongou: Oh, Owner, good work today.
haseyama: The little lady hasn’t gone home yet?
saki: Ah, yes, I was about to head home now actually…
haseyama: A young woman like you shouldn’t walk around at night by herself. Oi, Kongou! Walk her to the station.
kongou: Of course. Please wait a moment for me, Saki-chan. I’ll go get changed right away.
saki: Thank you, sorry for the trouble.
-kongou leaves-
haseyama: Jeez, they’re all just a bunch of inconsiderate bastards ain't they. By the way, I heard Team C had quite a messy dispute. It must have been one awful performance huh?
saki: That’s not true, it was an amazing show! It was set in such a mysterious world that you couldn’t help but get invested…
haseyama: ……
saki: … Owner-san?
haseyama: Ah, my bad. You just reminded me of someone I know, you’re similar.
saki: (Someone similar to me…?)
kongou: Thanks for waiting, shall we get going?
haseyama: Be careful getting home.
saki: Yes, then—…..
-strange man appears suddenly, grabbing saki-
saki: !?
???: Sorry, but I’m going to have you come with me for a bit.
haseyama: What the hell are you doing!
kongou: Saki-chan!
-kongou and the man fight-
kongou: Ugh….! Let go of her!
???: My, you’re a tough one.
-they keep fighting-
kongou: Gah…..!
-kongou falls to the ground-
saki: Kongou-san!
haseyama: Tch, you bastard!
-haseyama or ??? pull out a gun, I’m unsure which-
saki: (A gun….!)
haseyama: Don’t even think about it!
???: ….Hm.
-haseyama gets shot-
haseyama: Gah…!
saki: (screams)
kongou: Ugh… Owner…!
haseyama: Run… little lady….
???: If you want her back then come after me.
kongou: Hey…! Wait!
???: Just don’t inform the police about this. If you carelessly make a ruckus about it then I cannot assure you this woman’s safety.
kongou: Shit! Somebody! Somebody come here!
-strange man takes saki away, screen goes black-
saki: (How could… how could something like this happen…)

EX 3
-unei’s office-
kei: You’re all here then.
mizuki: You’re so slow, if this is for something stupid I’m gonna smack you one.
kokuyou: Stop it, Mizuki.
mokuren: ……
rindou: Did something happen, Kei?
kei: I’ll keep it brief— Haseyama has been shot.
mokuren: The owner was!?
kokuyou: No way…
kei: I don’t know their intentions but… There is no doubt that this was a crime committed by someone skilled. Kongou, who happened to be present at the time, fought back with all he could but was ultimately defeated.
mizuki: Was Kongou hurt!?
kei: Just some body bruises. He’s at the hospital just to be safe, but they shouldn’t be anything to worry about.
rindou: How is the owner’s condition…?
kei: He managed to escape death. However he has still not regained consciousness and his condition remains unpredictable.
kokuyou: …So, what are we gonna do?
kei: I want to avoid getting the police involved in this incident. Therefore I will not be making a report. So, in order to not make this incident public, it will be business as usual from tomorrow onwards.
mokuren: Do you plan to hide this from Princess too?
kei: —Saki was… kidnapped by this same perpetrator.
mokuren: What?
rindou: Saki-san was…!?
kei: If we make noise of this incident then Saki will be in danger. This is all for her sake.
mizuki: Huh? This ain't the time to be sitting around the store!
mokuren: I agree. We should shut the store and all go and search for her.
kokuyou: Wow, didn’t think you’d prioritise her over the stage.
mokuren: You expect me to prioritise the store over someone that’s disappeared? You’ve misjudged me, Kokuyou.
rindou: But it’s a simple matter. If we want to prioritise her safety then we should entrust this matter to the police. If you report it now it may be too late…
kei: It appears the perpetrator left us a message. It was “If you inform the police about this then the woman’s safety cannot be assured.”
rindou: No way….
kei: Besides, aren't you also well aware that the police can’t be relied on?
rindou: …….
mizuki: The cops are all shit, they can’t be trusted, right Kokuyou?
kokuyou: More or less.
kei: I am going to go over the known information more carefully here. For now you can have a break. Meet back here in 15 minutes. I will go over a more concrete plan of action then.
rindou: Understood… I’m going to go and cool my head for a bit.
mizuki: Man… fuck this!
mokuren: ……
-everyone else leaves the room-
kei: …….
kei: Saki… I pray that you are unhurt. I’ll definitely get you back, I swear it…!

Alright here me out.
A shazam/captain marvel rpg oneshot.
Ok so this idea was based on a post I saw which was Billy trying to explain his powers in dnd terms which got me thinking about how fun it would be to play a Shazam based dnd esc game.
I have a few ideas for how I’d write the storyline but no idea on the stats or game system I would use.
—Stats n stuff—
I was thinking about how maybe stats of the gods could possibly line up with character stat sheets. Yknow how each shazamily family member has a specific god power associated with them? Like how Darla is speed and Pedro is strength, etc. Those could align with dexterity and strength stats or something. Im sure there are probably some better ways to execute that but you get the idea.
Of course this would be completely dependent on the game I’m using. I was thinking just using dnd 5e (I think thats the regular dnd but Im not sure anymore) or Masks which was made for superhero rpg. However Im scared of using dnd since it can be pretty rule heavy and not very flexible. Masks was made specifically for superhero rpgs but it also costs quite a bit of money. If anyone has any ideas for what I should use I beg you comment them.
—Story—
The story will mostly just be me stealing ideas and lore from various different versions of Shazam, however mainly stealing from the 90’s, The Power of Shazam!, The Golden Age Comics/Whiz Comic, and The New Champion of Shazam series.
This is because these stories mainly just focus on Billy, Mary, and Freddy which I think would be easier to incorporate into the plot rather than having to juggle all 6 shazamily members at once (also it’d be hell to voice act/play as all of them as the gm)
I also don’t want my players to be forced to play preexisting characters (the shazamily or other DC heroes) so that they don’t feel like they have to fit into their roles yknow? And obviously so they just generally have more freedom with character design. So they will all play completely new characters of their liking.
The players will all play child/teen/possibly young adult characters who either a.) have no idea who each other are. Or b.) are in a foster home together already. The latter is probably the better option though because then there’ll be no need for a “you all are in a tavern…” type opening.
Later on they all get teleported to the Rock of Eternity and are told that the wizard is desperate and need them to help stop his last champion (who they probably will assume is Black Adam but is actually the end boss which I reveal later in this post)
They will all get the Shazam powers however I’ll randomize which specific one each of them get (like one of them is like Darla with superspeed or another is like eugene with his stronger lighting). They aren’t as strong as the other champion though because they all share the power like in the Power of Shazam and The New Champion of Shazam. This is honestly just applied so my players aren’t absolutely stacked though and for plot sake.
Also the Wizard dies since he had given the very last bit of his powers to the players. Also the wizard dies in like half the canon stories anyways so there’s that.
Some fight ensues soon after they get their powers mostly so the players can get a handle of their abilities and so suddenly Mary can show and help them defeat the opponent.
This leads to the introduction of Mary who is probably shocked to see new champions. As it turns out Billy/Cap has gone missing alongside Freddy/Cap Jr and she needs the players help to find them.
As for the middle section of the plot…Im still thinking about it. I know there will be some magical mythological creatures to fight though! And maybe I’ll take my players to Hell just for fun since Billy has a weird habit of going there in the comics.
As for the big bad guy final boss…Its Billy! Er I guess I should say Captain Marvel. However he is under the control of Mr. Mind, who wants to take over the world as per usual. However he realizes that Captain Marvel is sharing power with the players alongside Mary and Freddy. This leads him to attempt the kill them all as a way to regain Captain Marvels to his full power and therefore being way more adapt for taking over the world. So far he has managed to capture Freddy and is what he used to lure them into battle in the first place.
Fighting alongside him is Tawny. This version of Tawny is basically just a very large tiger imbued with magic and with the power to talk rather than being anthropomorphic. Tawny in this universe also acts more like a familiar to Cap and is summoned through his magic. However since Cap is under the control of Mr. Mind, the magic he uses to summon him is also under the control if that makes sense.
The players fight cap and depending how they do in battle will be able to free Cap. Or not. Haven’t planned the bad ending out out yet.
——
Thats all I have so far, man I didn’t realize how long this had gotten…
If anyone has any ideas for the plot and especially how I should execute this oneshot I BEG you comment them.
Lastly if you read all of this thanks for listening to my rambling, it felt nice to get the idea out.
Have a great day! ❤️
