Chapter 20: Drawn to Trouble - Page 9
Chapter Synopsis: There are some odd goings on at the city park blocks, and a little girl seems to be at the center of it.
Author Comment: I took way longer on drawing that house than I want to admit. Like, it set me back quite a bit because of how much I didn't want to draw it plus how much I didn't enjoy drawing it. Uggghhhh. Please appreciate the house I am begging you, make it worth my while.

November's Crossover Art features Ranma 1/2!
Coach is just watering his dodgeballs when he spots Suzie and greets her, not noticing at first that he accidentally splashes a strange boy who suddenly becomes a girl when soaked in cold water. Coach didn't witness this transformation, but Suzie got a full eyeful of it and is incredibly shocked and confused about this boy who suddenly became a beautiful redheaded lady.
Ranma 1/2 was one of my favorite mangas in my teen years and probably awakened a lot of things in me, including a good chunk of my trans identity. The artist, Rumiko Takahashi, was a huge art inspiration for me for a long time back when I mainly drew in the anime style. I can only dream of being as funny as she is. Ranma 1/2 is a story about a martial artist who fell into a cursed hotspring which makes him turn into a girl when splashed with cold water, and only hot water can turn him back. In this manga/anime, nearly anything can be a martial art, and Ranma tries to master all of it all while dealing with a multitude of people who are after him or her for many varying reasons. The story is incredibly weird and fun with a lot of memorable characters and it's something you have to really experience to understand!

Roddacember Day 16: Magic
“Some say that the monarchy is a product of a bygone age. Deltora, they say, no longer needs a King or Queen, and the Belt would be better off guarded in a museum than worn around the waist of someone whose only qualification is birthright. Magic, they say, is a relic of the past, and the monarchy is only a symbolic, ceremonial role.
It is true that the Kings and Queens of Deltora have very little political power. Since the creation of Congress and the dissolution of most monarchal powers by King Theolonius, monarchs are rarely involved in the day-to-day operations of the country and possess only limited authority.
And it is true, that since the defeat of Lord Malverlain by Queen Rix, that Deltora is no longer in the same kind of danger it was in the past. The greatest threat Deltora ever knew, the threat that necessitated the creation of the Belt in the first place, has long been laid to rest.
And of course, it is true that magic no longer holds the importance it did in the age of Adin, Lief, or Rix. When a plane can outfly a dragon, when a genetic test can identify an Ol, when a gun is more threatening than most sorcery, it is easy to imagine that magic is no longer relevant in our modern society. Even the Belt, once the greatest treasure of Deltora, is often seen as more of a ceremonial trinket than the extraordinary weapon it is.
As an avid student of history, this viewpoint has always rankled me. Our past helps define our present, and the magic that created our country cannot be reduced to meaningless formality simply because we are more interested in modern technology.
No where has this been more apparent to me than the farm of Garris Elcot, the current King of Deltora. A lifelong Gripper farmer, he accepted the Belt when he was eighteen after his elderly aunt abdicated the right and his father refused. He has made it clear from the first day of his reign that he finds the position distasteful. Rarely seen at royal functions, he prefers to tend his fields and becomes annoyed when he must leave his crop to deal with what he calls “magical bullshit.”
Yet he does deal with it. Clad in his Gripper-bit boots, dusty flannel shirts, and belt of priceless magical gemstones, he has left the (relative) safety of his fields dozens of times over the course of his life to protect Deltora from magical threats foreign and domestic. Most notably, he and seven dragons risked their lives to dispel the infamous Cantrella haunting--a terrifying event that killed nearly thirty civilians and cost him his eye and two fingers. While bored academics debate the virtues of locking up the Belt in a museum, he risks his life to put it to the use it was intended for--saving lives. But there is nothing surprising about that. The true magic of the Belt of Deltora, from the time of Adin and Lief to today, has always been in those who wield it. The ordinary people who are willing to fight to protect their country.”

Chapter 20: Drawn to Trouble - Page 6
Chapter Synopsis: There are some odd goings on at the city park blocks, and a little girl seems to be at the center of it.
Author Comment: Now, I know this definitely isn't how an escaped giraffe would be handled but it's kind of hard to find any examples of how it WOULD be handled. All I could find was an escaped baby giraffe. So, sadly, all you get is this dumb idiot putting his arms out in front of a grown-ass giraffe. I was going to add a cop on a horse but there wasn't any room. Maybe in the next few pages I can.

January's crossover image features Wolfwalkers! I've done a few crossovers from this studio and like the others this movie is beautiful and tells a compelling and enjoyable story that's brimming with European influences. The story involves a wild girl who can turn into a wolf, and a girl who gets brought into her world. I would talk more about it but I really think people should just see for themselves how good it is.
