#my mom is a bow and glimmer and adora stan
Text
you guys know the s5 scene where catra left adora to die?
here's another thing i noticed.
Tumblr media
she's apologizing for dying. while it's really fucked up, it is within adora's character to apologize for something she couldn't control. i can't recall, but she did something similar to glimmer and bow a few minutes prior to this.
however, while the writers may not have intended for this, adora is also apologizing for this:
Tumblr media
now, you might be drawing a blank at how this is correlated to her apology, until you remember what exactly catra and adora were talking about here:
adora is about to die.
originally, the conversation was about adora somehow choosing shadow weaver over catra ( which did not happen ), but when catra wasn't winning the argument, she shifted it to be about adora practically being led to her death.
catra's wording starts out as her acknowledging that adora doesn't have a choice in this ( which goes against her earlier reaction to just crying and running away from her when she gets the failsafe ), but then it changes its tune and becomes an accusation of choosing this path, when adora has been forced to take this.
basically, adora is apologizing to catra in the finale as if to prove that catra was right, even though she's literally dying right in front of her.
and catra never apologizes for leaving her.
speaking of which, would this apology even work on catra?
because we all know the real reason she left.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
she left because somehow, someway, she twisted the entire conversation and everything related to shadow weaver as adora actively wanting to be around their abusive mother, despite showing multiple cases to catra herself that she doesn't.
adora doesn't like being around shadow weaver. she doesn't like her at all. she may not want the woman to suffer harshly, adora did heal her when she was sick, but she doesn't want to be around shadow weaver if she doesn't have to be.
and catra knows that. there's several instances throughout the show that she's smart enough to see and understand that. she even uses a torture method sw used on her previously on adora and swift wind in the previous season, because she knew it would severely hurt her. especially since catra, for whatever reason, put the electrocution on steroids.
so, it's not like catra has been blind to adora's distaste, she just chooses when to acknowledge it.
catra sees adora eventually dying as 1. choosing to die and 2. choosing shadow weaver over her, in this current scene.
adora has no idea catra thinks this way, so her apology for just dying is not only really fucked up, but is most likely entirely pointless.
these two don't see the same problem. at least, not the exact same one. catra may still be pissed off at adora daring to "choose" the universe over death, for daring to choose the lives of literally everyone on the motherfucking planet over herself, but she's still more upset at adora "choosing" their mother over her.
so, what is adora apologizing for exactly?
yes, for dying, but how does catra see it? knowing catra, the best case scenario is she probably sees it as adora apologizing for being "wrong" ( because she says "no matter what happens, i am staying with you", but then gaslights adora into staying ), and for choosing their mom over her, even though neither of those are true or correlated within the context.
this level of thinking is on par with stans, so i'm not surprised catra herself acts this way.
it sure did hurt my brain when i realized it, though.

Okay...so i just finished watching She Ra in Netflix tonight
This started a couple of days ago, when suddenly, EVERYTHING that I acess in the internet was in She Ra mode (here in tumblr was trending for 3 days straight lol).
I've never feel the need to watch, but I like somethings that I see (yes Catradora, I'm looking at you).
Then I though...quarentine, free time...why not? And man, let's just say that I devour the 5 sesaons in 3 days lol.
First of all, I love everyone in the series (well, maybe except Shadow Weaver, but I talk about it later).
Adora was such a amazing hero, Glimmer and Bow such amazing friends, Mermisa such a iconic character, Perfuma so gentle...
And I can't decide if I like more Scorpia, or Entrepta or Swift Wind, it's totally impossible.
Anyway, everyone in this series have a defect, and I feel SOOO HAPPY when they surpass and become more strong. Like, genuinely happy.
Tumblr media
I CRYED SO MUCH in different scenes (5th season, you dehydrated me). Remember about Shadow Weaver? The last scene from her (yeah) I was sobbing so hard I had to pause because I can't read the subtitles (not english native speaker but I like to watch things with original voices and blah blah blah).
And I was crying so hard not really because Shadow Weaver, but because of what she finally said to my favorite character in a cartoon in a looooong time.
CATRA.
You know, the last time I feel so attached to a character that way was Raven, in Teen Titans cartoon (urgh, I really like the traumatized ones, no?)
I liked Catra since the first picture I see from She Ra(she's on that suit, yeah, you know what I'm talking about it) but the real thing who catch me with her is that Catra is such a complex character.
She never have love (Shadow Weaver, even after all I can't like you).
The only thing that give her a little bit of love left her. And she suffered the consequences for that. Alone. And when her life start to get in all shit, her best friend is happy discovering the joy of the world with her new best friends.
At same time, she's not a good person, or cat, whatever. She seeks power, was a bad friend and maaaany times, toxic. Egoist, made a lot of people suffer. Pushed away everyone who came after her (poor Scorpia).
But as I keep watching, and she become more and more dark (4th season, you broke me) the only thing that I keep thinking is "if she is so bad, why do I like her so much?"
Then the last episode from my beloved 4th season (that's irony), the fucking scene with Double Trouble answer me. And broke me.
Catra is the character with most flaws - and traumas - in the entire series. In one episode you want to comfort her, in the next you want to slap her in the face to see if she finally wake up.
She's the most human character there.
I like Catra because I don't like perfection. Because in the end she finally tried.
I was sooo happy for her in 5th season. She deserved the redemption.
I'm feel like a proud mom with her growth.
(And every time I'm feeling in a bad mood I'm going to watch the episode 8 in the 5th season, that's precious).
I love She Ra and all the characters, all the AMAZING representation. A gay maried couple, two wlw couple, different people - in color, in personalities- telling you that's ok to be different, in such a natural way, without forcing anything.
Especialy, Catra and Adora being canon, clearly needing each other, two dorks at love, means so much for a lot of people these days. After all, the only thing that can fix this world is that, is love.
Tumblr media
Catra, I stan you sooooo hard, chaotic kitty.
Tumblr media
I'm sorry if this is too long, or have a lot of errors or whatever. I just want to show how She Ra it's amazing for me. Thank you Noelle Stevenson.
(And a toast to Catra's voice actor, Amanda Michalka, because every single one "Hey Adora" made me shiver).

So in honor of She-Ra ending and because I'm finally deciding to watch it (after it ends. Yes I'm one of those people who only watch things after they're done. Leave me alone) I decided to put together a list of things I do debatably know happens in the show.
I hope you enjoy my ramblings.
-Adora and Catra are gay.
-Adora has a horse that can talk+fly although I haven't seen much about her(?) recently and she(?) might be dead. The horse’s name is Swift Wind (I think.)
-Catra is an emotionally-repressed baby who deserves the world.
-so is Adora
-glimmer and bow are Adora’s best friends after she defects??? something like that bc she grew up w/ the bad guys I think
-glimmer is a princess (but a special one, I guess? She's apparently more important than the rest for some reason) and her powers are teleporting and sparkling. She eventually becomes queen bc her mom dies(?) something happens to her mom who I think is called angel but her dad who she thought was dead comes back so! It all balances out.
-bow is glimmer and adoras best friend and maybe glimmers boyfriend? I’m not sure. His powers are being the best boy and using a bow-and-arrow. I do not know if his name is bow because of that or vice-versa. Also he has two gay dads.
-there are lots of other princesses that exist and fight alongside She-Ra, who is Adora but tall. Those princesses include Perfuma, Mermist(a)?, entrapta (who is best girl), and the tiny mean ice-one. There is also two gay princess girlfriends(wives??) but I do not know their names.
-Scorpia is on Catra’s side until she's not and she, Entrapta, and Catra are BFFS. I know nothing about their relationships at all.
-there is a robot-man-glowey-eyed thing called Horzak (?) who we stan but there is another, bigger Horzak with lots of eyes who we do not stan. I do not know who they are, nor what they want. I'm pretty sure stannable Horzak was a bad guy but who knows.
-there is a lady named Shadow Weaver who Is The Actual Worst. no I will not be elaborating.
-at some point there's a dance (ball?) and catra wears a suit and she and adora fight-dance and its very gay.
-there is a character named Kyle. I do not know what he does, nor where he is, but he needs to STEP UP.
-there is a green creature named Double Trouble (that name sounds really wrong to me, but I can't think of what else their name could be) and I have literally heard nothing about them ever since their debut.
-people (adora) tend to fall off of many cliffs. She needs to stay away from cliffs.
-uhhhh there is pain. So, so much pain.
-oh also there is a (pirate?) man with a mustache who likes to set boats on fire. He is in love with the mermaid princess.
So that's it! I hope at least some of this is accurate lmao

She ra review part 1
I know this isn't anime, but this show and how horrendous the writing got has honestly bugged me to no end.
SheRa 2018 is a "reboot" of the 80s SheRa, though I wouldn't even call it reboot considering the creator trashed the original constantly and also never even watched the original show in the first place. The only thing this "reboot" has in common is that it uses the names of the characters from the original and that's it. The show is basically a fucking fanfiction labelled under original work outside of that essentially.
Going into the actual show topic.
----
I started this show pretty much a year or 2 late, basically just waiting for all the drama to die down from the annoying reactionary communities. When starting out, I REALLY wanted to like the show, and honestly, I was enjoying it back then. Unfortunately, as episodes went by I started enjoying it less, ESPECIALLY in season 5 where everything had officially gone to shit.
The writing for this show is honestly fucking awful, they had many great ideas but either these were executed badly, or they didn't go completely through with it. There's also a lot of stuff that didn't make sense. Like when it comes to the princesses, elements, and their runestones. The elemental princesses are all able to do that rainbow power thing that I forgot the name of, yet some princesses that actual have a power that is elemental(*coughs*spinerella*coughs*) aren't able to be included in this. Glimmer which doesn't even use an elemental power can be included, but Spinerella, who literally uses wind, a fucking elemental, can't be included?? That sure doesn't make sense. This show also has a problem with further elaborating on things.
Though they did a REALLY good job with the writing of Shadow Weaver, she is a VERY complex character and you can truely tell the writers put alot of their effort into her. If you're not some fucking catradora stan that just immediately hates her character just because she abused your fave, than you'd definitely agree.
-----
Going into the characters themselves.
Adora
She's very bland for a main character and Im honestly not a fan of her design. Why is she shaped like one of those bugs from the ants movie when she was a soldier that constantly trained since childhood? She should have muscle of some kind, and that goes for everyone else in the horde minus Rogelio, Scorpia, and Huntara who was a former horde member.
Catra
I really....really don't like catra, she reminds me of 4 different goals I knew....if they all merged into one person... Catra is a selfish, manipulative, and very unstable character. She had SO many opportunities throughout this show, literally since the first season to just join the good side Adora is now on. Catra, unlike Adora was very much aware that the horde was evil since day one, yet when offered the chance MULTIPLE times to join the good side, she refuses, but is still VERY adamant on stalking Adora, and constantly trying to kill her. Season 5 was especially awful, she literally got worse and worse overtime until this season and in season 4 was willing to commit mass murder(or would it be mass genocide?) all because of Adora, just to spite her. I see many catra stans trying to say catra's redemption arc was better than Zuko's when um, no? It wasn't. Unlike catra, Zuko didn't have multiple chances to better herself and join the good side automatically. Zuko, from what I remember, couldn't just immediately drop everything and join the good side. He was a prince of the fire kingdom who was stuck under his father's command and he actively had to work to better himself throughout MULTIPLE seasons before he could join the good side and gain people's trust. Meanwhile Catra had multiple chances since literally day one to better herself and go to the good side, yet she just wanted to be an asshole, attempt to kill everyone, abuse others, and overly obsess over, stalk, and literally murder Adora on multiple occasions. Literal toxic relationship, but that didn't matter as long as it was catradora end game.
Bow
I actually have no problem with him, he's a nice support character. The only annoying thing is that his abs are constantly showing no matter what he's wearing, except for the one time when he was trying to hide his real self when we first meet his dads.
Glimmer
I didn't like this girl either. I hated the way she treated her mother. She just seems spoiled and whiny and way too quick to do things without an ounce of thought. The way she treated her mom most of the time was just completely unnecessary. Like dayum bitch, she just doesn't want to lose the only other family she has left. As someone with mother issues and does not have a mother, Glimmer had literally no reason to be that fucking rude to her mother, her mother just cares about her well being, safety, and overall existence, unlike mine.
Shadow Weaver/Light Spinner
Excellent character, very well written, bonus points for having a hot voice and having big milf energy. She was the horde kids caretaker and trainer from what it seemed. She has a lot of layers to her. If you look more into her character you see that she actually does care about people around her, she just could be emotionally stunted. She was kinda both selfless and selfish. She had this whole obsession with gaining power which she had even as light spinner, which definitely hints at her family maybe being disappointed in her for being powerless or something along those lines. She even shows signs of having been abused herself, but unfortunately continued this cycle of abuse on Catra and Adora specifically. Shadow Weaver had many goals that involved Adora specifically and she was willing to hurt others in order to finish this goal. Even as Light Spinner this was prominent as she was willing to help save the universe even if it ended up harming herself or others around her in the process. She wasn't just some cruel old woman, but a very complex woman that had a lot of baggage. Sucks that they ended up killing her, I wish she got her own redemption because her story definitely had a lot of potential to be great. It would've been cool to see her try to better herself out of her own willingness, repent for the shit she'd done, maybe a childhood backstory to understand her better, and she tries to apologize to those she used and abused and it doesn't in any way involve having to accept her apology. I just think Shadow Weaver was a neat character.
Hordak
The mindcontrolling is not an excuse for how fucking shitty he is, he became a fucking a war criminal and coloniser out of his own free will. The fandom seems to think that shadow Weaver had done everything wrong, but look at hordak like "uwu my sweet cinnamon roll". Hordak literally colonised kingdoms, kidnapped infants and young children, most likely imprisoned and/or killed those babies parents/other family members, tried to take over the whole world, and other actual war crimes, but he got a pass to walk off into the sunset because he had feelings for someone, and his big bro was mean to him when he was in the cult. Don't come at me with the 'buts' you have, wrong hordak didnt do any of the bs our hordak did when he was no longer under mind control.
----
I think I'm done for now. It's 1am now. I'm gonna just stop here and continue with more at some point.

Okay. She-Ra. Let me just put down some chaotic, random thoughts. I’ll miss a lot of a stuff but-
CATRADORA!! At the beginning I didn’t think I’d end up loving it as much as I do now, I was kinda torn between some different She-Ra ships (Catra/Scorpia for example, but that got washed away in one of the seasons), but BOI. I was so happy. That whole last season had me !!!!!!!!!!! THEYRE LESBIANS HAROLD
Glimbow was a little more of a surprise, but it’s not out of nowhere and they are really precious. Their confession scene was precious, too. I would’ve loved them as best friends, but I can also stan them as couple. I mean... The ball thing in the first (?) season kinda started to give hints already
Mermista and Seahawk were pretty much teased from the beginning but I never really knew if I liked it or not.... Probably bc I rly love Mermista and want her to be rly gay bc I’m rly gay but I also never really stanned Mermista and Perfuma so HMMM. I... kinda learned to appreciate Merhawk, though. The last season just did so many things right. And them with a piratey aesthetic? Amazing.
on that topic though, my initial thought after Seahawk’s first appearance was ‘chaotic bisexual energy’. He’s bi as hell and at least that dude with longer hair and the eye patch in that one undercover episode was his ex boyfriend, no discussions. Mermista is also bi. Merhawk is a powerful, chaotic bi couple.
Bow? also a chaotic bi or pansexual
Bow is precious af and so are his dads btw. God!!! I was so happy when his dads got introduced like whaaaat!! And then we also saw a pic of Scopria’s moms in one ep and just?? YES.
glad that Netossa and Spinnerella got more screen time tbh. They are so wholesome and we finally got to see how powerful they can be, too! They had so many good moments in the last season, we stan
I’m not..... really a fan of Frosta (sorry!!) but Micah trying to bond with her bc he feared that Glimmer might not like him was really precious and funny. Micah is a really nice character anyway, I also dig his abilities and his character design
Scorfuma is a ship I never thought about a lot but.... it’s cute. They will be so wholesome together, so sweet, so much POSITIVITY!!!!
Scorpia’s dkjsfj singing scene???? GLAMOROUS. We stan a scorpion queen. She’s so gorgeous and so sweet.
actually the whole undercover episode was a blessing. Mermista in a suit and a hat?? I died a little. Scorpia and Perfuma looked really pretty, too.
WRONG HORDAK. he was probably one of my fav things of the new season. he’s so fucking precious omg and some scenes were so funny. such a good addition, and he deserves happiness.
Melog..... is so cute, too. Therapy cat!!!!! Yes!!!!!!!!
look, Shadow Weaver, though. She really deserves appreciation as a character. I’m not saying that she’s good; no - she’s egoistic and manipulative. But she’s a damn good and interesting character and she went out with a bang. I felt really torn about this scene and I was a little shocked also, but really, it was perfect, actually. I won’t ramble about her character here now, but yanno
Adora’s new She-Ra transformation. It was even better than the other one and the outfit and hair style are so much better, too!!! Basically, I was Catra when Adora did her transformation she watched her do it. Yep.
I really love Mara (and GOSH she’s SO pretty!!!!) and I would’ve loved to see more of her again, but yea djakfwf
the Adora’s dream of the future scene must be one of my faves.... The lightning, the designs, the playful nature.... IM CRY. Glimmer’s new hair style????? Bow’s hair style???? Adora and Catra’s matching outfits and Catra’s ponytail? UGGHH.
I didn’t care so much about Horde Prime as a character, but actually, basically.... he’s the type of villain I rly like? Cold, well-spoken, calculating, a lil charming, ruthless? Ah, yea. Good concept.
STARLA. I almost forgot about Starla omgggg. The three siblings in general?? Their designs were cool, their fighting styles, too. I would’ve loved to see more of them!!
this show in general somehow managed to make me cry easily and often and about the smallest things - I don’t know how it did that, but it was/is a thing. god.
EMOTIONS
the finale was just so good, so perfect, so many feelings..... There’s so much chaos in my thoughts and heart about it, but in a very positive way
there are just so many details that I could ramble about, but this post would get so damn long. so many good scenes.
I LOVE IT SO MUCH

E3: Horsey is not impressed Adora, oh yeah that's how we got Swift Wind, before he was annoying. Glimmer and Bow are such dumb babies I love them, also poor Catra... Razz! Mara! Nooooo now I'm crying and we're barely on season 1. JAJA i cant believe there was a time Hordak was the biggest threat
E4: Oh Micah, oh Angela, my poor parents. Kyle baby the Horde doesn't deserve you. What was going on with Shadow Weaver? (Also that drawing is gay Catra) oh look another gay, hi Perfuma! The BFF squad is official baby!

E9: Fuck you Shadow Weaver (for the millionth time) but now for hurting my girl Glimmer. Oh my poor Entrapta, the saddest part is that she thought they had betrayed her, now I'm sad again. Finally we love Glimmadora saving each other and NOELLE NOW YOU BETTER GIVE US CATRA'S REDEMPTION ARC OR I'LL DIE
E10: Hi I'm crying again because of this mother-daughter moments and GOD I NEED ANGELA TO BE ALIVE SOMEHOW, my baby girl needs her mom. Entrapta and Scorpia share the same brain cell and I love them so much
E11: PAAAAAAIN and according to the emojis in season 5 there's going to be another childhood memory and IM SO NOT READY also PAIN
E12: I've gotten so used to light hope that I really thought she had been in the show all along, but I'm really conflicted about her now because of the whole Mara story and season 4 arc... OH FUCK THIS IS WHEN THE HORSE STARTED TALKING GOD DAMMIT. And yeah the final battle (of season 1) is coming and I can't believe I'm almost done with this
E13: Mermista ex-machina, AND YES THE COLORS! BOW LIGHTING UP LIKE THE REST OF THE PRINCESSES YESSSS THE HUG YEAH. And come on Catra I love you being the bad guy BUT I STILL BELIEVE IN HER REDEMPTION ARC AND TONIGHT I BETTER HAVE IT
At the end of the day this show is amazing, it was made with so much love, the characters are lovable and the ending will be EPIC
We're gonna win in the end

She-Ra season 2 episodes, ranked
All right, I have a lot of feelings about She-Ra season 2 and what was good and not so good. I’ve been doing a lot of shitposting but this is legit analysis/meta, or at least it wants to be.
To be fair, though I’m trying to rank these as objectively as possible, it will be influenced by what I care most about and find most interesting in the series. I stan Catra and the Superpal Trio and think Adora is a loveable mess, and I really can’t stand Swift Wind. So, take this with a grain of salt. Needless to say, SPOILERS AHEAD.
7. 2x03 “Signals”
I would rank this episode higher, except the A plot was so meh. It felt like it should have been a Halloween special, and if it was I’d give it a pass, but I found it so thoroughly disinteresting I all but tuned out. Of course, people who stan the Best Friend Squad might have still loved it, but their dynamic isn’t as interesting for me anymore because we’ve seen so much of it, and this episode didn’t do much to change it other than add Swift Wind in (and he really, really annoys me). The only real thing it did to move the plot forward was introduce the subplot about the mysterious transmissions, and it didn’t do anything characterization wise. Ultimately, it’s a set up episode, and to be fair it might be more interesting in retrospect once we get some payoff and see where that whole thing is going. But I dunno, I kinda doubt it.
It’s mostly a set up episode in the other subplots too, but I enjoyed watching the political machinations in the Horde because there were real, tangible stakes and important power shifts. Catra learning that having power and authority is not all it’s cracked up to be was a crucial bit of character development. That bit of her getting the air sucked out of her lungs was more genuinely scary than the creepy ghost holograms by far. You felt her desperation trying to save face with Hordak and regain her sense of power and safety after that terrifying threat, and watching Shadow Weaver tune in to and play with her insecurities was a good bit of development for and insight into their relationship. It also foreshadows how easily Shadow Weaver is able to manipulate Catra later in the season.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Entrapta’s excursions and work with Hordak supplied some comic relief (which I think the A plot also tried and failed to do) and also made the Horde plot take an interesting turn. This is the episode where Catra really starts to lose power, and meanwhile Entrapta gains a lot without even meaning to. She just wanted to fix the problem with Hordak’s experiment, dear girl. On that note, I did not expect to enjoy watching Hordak and Entrapta so much, but one thing this show does really well is throw together unexpected combinations of characters and make an amazing dynamic (e.g. the Superpal Trio, Scorpia and Seahawk, Catra and Glimmer and Bow).
The Entrapta subplot was the most interesting of the episode and unfortunately it was relegated to the C plot. This episode would have been way better if they’d put more focus on the Horde side of things and/or given the “Best Friend Quad” something with more substance.
6. 2x01 “The Frozen Forest”
This episode was fine, but it didn’t do much to stand out. It was important, of course, to follow up on the end of season 1, and if they had skipped this episode entirely it would have left a huge gap. But with the two main groups of characters not interacting at all in person, there was little reason to be emotionally invested in the fight scenes. We don’t really care if Horde bots get destroyed. It would have been more interesting to see the Superpal Trio directly fighting the Princess Alliance, but on the other hand it did set up just how big a role Entrapta’s tech knowledge was going to play this season. The stuff with the princess alliance was cute, I always enjoy seeing more of Mermista, and they did some character work (which I can always appreciate) with Glimmer and Frosta. But since we only see the princesses once more this season, it hasn’t had much of a chance to pay off yet.
Tumblr media
The highlight of this episode was Adora fighting Catra in the simulation and her ensuing conversation with Light Hope. (“There. There.” and “I also have buttons” were two of my favorite one-liners of the season.) The simulated fight was very cute, and I definitely screamed when Catra grabbed Adora’s hand while delivering her customary “Hey Adora,” right before taking her down. And look, the fact that Catra was flirting so hard with Adora in that simulation means that an AI with very poor social awareness has picked up on their sexual/romantic tension, and that’s hilarious.
The Horde side of things gave us more time with the Superpal Trio, who are always delightful, but not a ton happened over there either. This episode established that Entrapta has fully moved in to the Fright Zone and Catra is comfortably leading the Horde’s advances and has respect from Hordak and the Horde’s soldiers. It also foreshadows how impressed Hordak is going to become with Entrapta’s work (and unimpressed with Catra’s) when her EKS bots steal the show in that meeting. Finally, the episode introduced the shifted dynamic between Catra and Shadow Weaver now that the power position has flipped. That ongoing subplot was possibly the saddest part of the season, and this one scene did a good job of setting that up.
Overall, this was a good and necessary setup episode, but because it had all that exposition and setup to do we didn’t get a ton of good character/relationship moments (Frosta/Glimmer and Catra/Shadow Weaver being the notable exceptions). So yeah, it was fine. But there were definitely stronger episodes, which we will now get into...
5. 2x04 “Roll With It”
This was a very cute episode, a fun one to watch. The reason I ranked it fifth is because there are three very strong episodes this season and 2x07 had higher stakes, being the season (mid-season, lbr) finale. On the Horde side of things, I loved seeing more of Lonnie, Kyle, and Rogelio. Lonnie really shined this episode and I keep waiting for someone to realize how smart and capable she is and promote her. And of course, Scorpia. Darling oblivious Scorpia who just wants to impress her crush. She’s not very smart but she’s earnest af and can pack a punch, and this is the first episode where she really stands out.
The planning session in the rebellion camp was really fun to watch, though I’m sure I missed a ton of jokes because I’ve never played D&D. The chaotic way the princesses all play off each other was more evident here than in 2x01, which made for some great gags. The different approaches they each take and the different aninmation styles used to portray them were a lot of fun. Glimmer’s noir hero fantasies were my favorite, personally. (And apparently she sees Catra as a very sexy villain? I need more on this, please.)
Tumblr media
Adora’s monologue about the worst possible secenario revealed all her insecurities, and it was one of the highlights of the season. Her anxiety issues and messiah complex have been touched on before many times, but this is the first time they’ve really come bubbling to the surface this season. It was really nice to see the whole group reassure her that she isn’t in this alone, much like Bow and Glimmer did before the Battle of Bright Moon. And while it’s been hinted at before, this episode really solidified her obsession with Catra. And Scorpia’s too, as I mentioned above.
It’s easy to forget that Catra wasn’t actually in this episode (AJ Michalka was, but her character was not, not for real) because you felt her presence everywhere. The bit with all the princesses’ different renditions of her was hilarious. But you know, it was nice to see the show put together such a strong episode without Catra. Having the emotional focus on Adora again was a nice change of pace.
4. 2x07 “Reunion”
This episode gave us what 2x03 lacked: it made the Best Friend Squad interesting again. That group is most compelling to watch when there’s conflict among them, like in the stretches of 1x01-1x02 and 1x08-1x10. They weren’t in an actual fight this time, but Glimmer and Adora being so thrown by Bow’s secret family life meant that things didn’t feel “as usual.” Glimmer’s insecurity about not meaning that much to Bow resurfaced, and Bow’s “coming out” scene was extremely moving. But thankfully there was comic relief, too. Adora mispronouncing words to try and sound scholarly was a great ongoing gag, and the eventual fight between the Best Friend Squad and the elemental was really fun because it was so chaotic with Bow’s dads being extremely confused.
Tumblr media
Okay and look, Bow’s dads. Finally we get to see why Bow is the most well-adjusted person in the group. His parents aren’t perfect, but they did way less to fill their kids with insecurities than Angella or Shadow Weaver. Angella’s not a bad mom but it’s easy to see why Glimmer feels so inadequate. And Shadow Weaver is, well, Shadow Weaver.
This episode was sort of oddly structured for what is essentially a mid-season finale in the sense that the A plot was about relationships more than the overarching plot, but that’s not necessarily bad. And they tied the plot back in at the end with the reveal about the Crimson Waste, setting us up to finally move forward in this transmissions subplot in season 3.
Tumblr media
There wasn’t a lot of time for Horde stuff this episode, but Scorpia forcibly loving Catra and turning her into a burrito was one of my favorite scenes of the season (maybe I will do a Top 10 later on). Catra opening up to Scorpia about her problems for the second episode in a row was huge, especially after experiencing a heart-shattering betrayal in the previous episode. Catra’s final scene where she gets exposed as a liar and choked out felt a bit truncated to me... like after they set that up as this terrifying threat in 2x03, they lingered a lot less in the terror of that moment in this episode. So that was kind of disappointing, but it still worked well as half of the cliffhanger (the weaker half, imo, but it was still extremely nerve-wracking).
It was hard to pick between #4 and 5 on this list, but ultimately the amazing cliffhanger was what put this one over the top. Both our protagonists are in danger, at the mercy of our two worst villains, and even though I knew what was coming as soon as I saw Adora sleeping, the shot of Shadow Weaver standing over her bed made me scream. I hate this show for leaving me hanging here, so they did it right.
3. 2x02 “Ties That Bind”
Ranking this one so high may be an unpopular opinion, but I personally loved this episode. I didn’t care much for the B plot except it was good insight into Adora, but the A plot was so delightful it made up for it. Mixing members of the Superpal Trio and Best Friend Squad almost always results in something good... maybe not for the characters, but for the audience. Watching Catra and Glimmer play off each other’s insecurites was great, and it was sweet watching Bow attempting to befriend Catra, just like he did with Adora. The conflict between him and Glimmer about how to treat their hostage felt very in-character, a good callback to the beginning of season 1.
Of course, Catra is a much more annoying hostage than Adora was. Her being a little shit and doing everything she could to get on their nerves was amazing, and I would have gladly watched a full hour episode just of that. The sassiness and manipulation we see from her in this episode balances nicely with the deep emotional stuff she goes through this season in her fight to win approval and prove her worth. It also produced my favorite joke of the season: “How are you such a nightmare?!?”/”Eh, years of practice.” I felt that in my soul as a youngest child. I also loved all the cat mannerisms they incorporated in this episode, it was very cute.
Tumblr media
There is a bit of emotional meat to that story, with Catra and Glimmer’s confrontation at the end after Glimmer says Adora ran away from Catra, not the Horde (rude, btw). But the real emotional moment comes when Bow and Glimmer find out Entrapta stayed willingly with the Horde. That was heart-breaking. Heart-shattering, even. Especially because Bow and Glimmer feel such guilt for her being left there in the first place. I wish there had been more follow-up on this major emotional beat, but that’s not a weakness of this episode itself. This was my favorite Entrapta scene of the season, even though there were a lot of other great ones.
Like I said, the B plot was... okay, but not amazing? The bits with Light Hope glitching were funny, if a bit creepy. (But she’s always creepy, so.) Swift Wind annoys the hell out of me when he’s being hyper, but seeing his eventual heart-to-heart with Adora gave him some good depth and development. Plus, this episode does a really good job of illustrating not only how uptight Adora is, but why. There’s that messiah complex again (which I don’t blame her for btw, that’s Shadow Weaver’s fault). I like episodes that focus on Adora emotionally, and separating her from Glimmer and Bow meant her storyline got to be a bit more serious and in-depth. I just wish it hadn’t been opposite Swift Wind... not because it wasn’t effective, but because Adora’s arc was good but I have little desire to rewatch it if it means I have to watch more of him. Sorry, I guess I’m an anti.
2. 2x05 “White Out”
As I’ve said before, this episode is the highlight of season 2. Once again, that has a lot to do with the dynamics that occur whenever we mix members of the Best Friend Squad and Superpal Trio, and this time we got all of them in one place! And they added Seahawk to the mix too, which I didn’t expect to like because he tends to get on my nerves, but pairing him with Scorpia was a move of pure brilliance.
Scorpia and Sea Hawk’s little heart-to-heart about feeling unappreciated and Drunk Adora validating and encouraging them was so so cute and heartwarming. All the Drunk Adora and Scorpia stuff was great, actually. It was funny but also made very textual how much Catradora is an insecurity for Scorpia and how she’s afraid she’ll never be able to live up to that and Catra will never open up to her the same way. And Adora actually seems to genuinely like Scorpia when she’s not focused on the evils of the Horde, so that’s good to know moving forward. And yeah, that pairing also brought us “Girls night in!” and the closet joke, another highlight of the season.
Tumblr media
In the other mixed grouping, Catra and Glimmer renewed their rivalry, and that’s always fun to watch. Entrapta continued to be her usual chaotic self, and any time we see her interacting with Bow it tends to be a great scene. The reveal at the end that she had the tech all along but didn’t tell Catra because she liked hanging out in this remote place with her friends was really, really cute.
I would be amiss to not mention the Catradora of it all in this episode, because holy shit this is actually the only time they interact in person all season. That is just wrong, by the way, but I did thoroughly enjoy what we got. It’s very clear they still have an emotional hold over each other despite their attempts to “let go,” between Adora’s overly-focused anger and Catra’s expressions whenever she hears or sees Adora. Adora actually kind of hates Catra right now and I think that caught Catra off guard. Catra’s panic when Evil She-Ra almost killed her was a great moment of vulnerability, how she tried to appeal to the Adora inside. She dropped the act for a moment and genuinely tried to connect with Adora, and maybe it made me tear up a little.
Along those same lines, the one thing that pissed me off about this episode was that we didn’t get to see Catra interacting with Drunk Adora. That would have allowed Adora to interact with Catra in a vulnerable state too, and in general it just would have been amazing. And the trailer kinda suggested we would get to see that, so that made it extra disappointing. Can’t these two just talk about their feelings and actually hear each other and communicate properly, please? Ugh. Still, despite these frustrations, I loved the Catradora content.
Tumblr media
But the real highlight of the episode was Scorptra. The scene where Scorpia tried to ask Catra out on a date was amazing and so freaking cute. Of course there’s also the stuff I mentioned where her insecurities about Adora came spilling out. And the look on Catra’s face when Scorpia aborted a mission to save her life and then whisked her away despite her protests... that was a huge moment. She doesn’t think of herself as worth saving, but someone else does. And despite the fact that Scorpia disobeyed direct orders, I think this is where Catra really comes to trust her. It’s certainly where she comes to respect her. And then they shared a blanket! God, this was so cute. I expected to enjoy the Catradora stuff more but a) there wasn’t all that much of it and b) this was so incredibly pure and sweet, watching Scorpia finally make some headway and Catra finally open up to someone again, even if it was only a little bit. I am a multi-shipper now, I can’t help it.
1. 2x06 “Light Spinner”
It was hard choosing between this and White Out for top spot, but I’m a slut for villain backstories. This episode was the less entertaining of the two, and I think I’d have to say White Out is my subjective favorite, but objectively I do think this is the better episode. Why? Character development.
Shadow Weaver was a bit too twirly-moustache of a villain at times in season 1, so seeing how she became what she is now did a lot for her character. Seeing how a desire to do good mixing with a thirst for power can drive someone to make mistakes and turn evil was very interesting, and having Micah be part of the backstory made it all the more compelling.
The ways Shadow Weaver tries to mold people with more intrinsic power than her so she can use that power was a crucial new insight, one we’ve never seen before. It explains why she’s so obessed with Adora, which was never really explained in season 1. And it also suggests that part of Shadow Weaver’s dislike for Catra came from Adora’s connection to and therefore influence over her. Shadow Weaver wanted Adora’s loyalty to be to her above all, even above the Horde, and Adora having a close friend (who’s a rebellious loose cannon, to boot) was a danger to that goal.
Tumblr media
This episode is essentially about Shadow Weaver and Catra, both separately and together, and it does a great job of drawing parallels between them even before Shadow Weaver outright tells Catra that they are the same. They both go off on a rant about how no matter what they do, no one listens to or respects them. Shadow Weaver seems to have a bit of a self-loathing streak that she took out on Catra, too... kinda like Glimmer being annoyed by all her worst qualities manifesting in Frosta.
As for Catra, it shocked me that she was so upset about Shadow Weaver being sent away to die. Though she obviously still craved Shadow Weaver’s approval, I didn’t expect her to react so badly to this. Clearly Scorpia didn’t either, and her trying to tease Catra’s reasons out of her was sweet. It was nice to see Catra continuing to open up to Scorpia after that moment with the blanket at the end of White Out, but there’s still a lot she’s holding inside. She still genuinely cares about Shadow Weaver despite how she’s been trying to hurt her for revenge and her own satisfaction... that sound familiar?
And unfortunately, Catra’s connection to Shadow Weaver and her need for maternal love and approval was her downfall. After she mocked the rebellion for their bleeding hearts and how easily manipulated they are, mind you. This is where Catra’s tendency to sympathize with Shadow Weaver (which we saw at least twice in season 1) finally came back to bite her in the ass. It was terribly sad because Catra actually has a big heart and Shadow Weaver knew that and took advantage of it.
Tumblr media
It’s hard to say how much Shadow Weaver meant of what she said to Catra when they had their big confrontation. It wasn’t clear whether or not she had seen her badge hidden in the food, whether she was only trying to manipulate Catra or if she was being earnest about any of it. Was the physical affection she gave her genuine, her way of making up for things and saying goodbye, or was she just fucking with Catra? I dunno, but either way this betrayal she pulled was awful, and if she was trying to be nice she would’ve been better off holding Catra at a distance than letting her get her hopes up. For real, Catra’s reaction when she realized Shadow Weaver had used and betrayed her was gut-wrenching, one of the rawest moments we’ve seen from her. I might have cried, a lot. She let herself be vulnerable in a way she rarely does, and for that she got absolutely obliterated emotionally. Again.
So yeah, this wasn’t a particularly fun episode, but it was a very strong episode of television and it did a lot to make Shadow Weaver more fleshed out and interesting. It finally brought one of the show’s most fraught relationships into the spotlight and let it combust in front of us, and as painful as it was to watch, I can’t help rewatching the Catra and Shadow Weaver scenes again and again. I never expected Catra to so openly ask Shadow Weaver why she was never good enough for her and what she did to deserve all the abuse. It was an incredibly rewarding scene to watch with great emotional payoff. And for a stan like me, that made it the best episode of the season.

Note
you can probably guess i'm gonna ask this one, but she ra??? (bonus points if you don't even go into the tags first and just do it based on previous knowledge)
Okay I won’t use the tags for this one I’ll just use my Osmosis Knowledge (and also the stuff I learned from the 80s show)
Plot: Adora (aka She-Ra) needs to Save The Freaking World from a legion of Bad Guy Aliens who are like bad guys
Adora: She-Ra. Got her powers from Gray Skull and like... a magic sword. He-Man’s sister. Lives in a parallel universe to him. Kinda a dork? Wears a red jacket always. A cinnamon roll
Glimmer: I think she’s a princess but idk of what. Sparkle Sparkle powers?! Maybe? Her mom’s name is Angela but they pronounce it stupidly
Bow: Also a cinnamon roll. I think he has gay dads and he’s good at archery (hence Bow) he has a heart on his armor and I think that’s valid. Uhh ends up in Love with Glimmer
Catra: Butch Lesbian Kittycat. Full of Anger. Gets a Zuko-level redemption arc that ends with the Power of Gay. Tsundere. Has claws idk if they’re retractable though. Ends up in lesbians with Adora. Abandonment issues maybe idk?
Hordak: Bad Guy Alien Guy. Has a mean boss he’s always trying to impress. Maybe has clones? Robots? I dunno? In the 80s version he had sinus congestion but I assume that cleared up. I really don’t know anything else other than he’s the Big Bad or something
Shadow Weaver: In the 80s version she was Cool but now she’s Not Cool and is abusive. I guess she’s like a witch? Her design is still dope af though
Sea Hawk: Looks like Bow from the 80s one. Uh... I guess he’s a pirate or something?
Entrapta: She’s the Autism Rep™ for the show and she’s a bad guy even though I thought she was a good guy until three days ago. Also I didn’t know her name until like yesterday RIP. I guess she’s like... fairly nice albeit being a Bad Guy?
Double Trouble: Nonbinary alien goblin thing? Trickster god?
Scorpia: Big Buff Femme and we stan. Gives excellent hugs. Looks very sweet and soft 10/10
Perfuma: I don’t know jack shit about her other than her name and that she exists and I think she has flower powers
Swift Wind: Adora’s horse. He used to be able to talk in the 80s one and they also made a horrible ableist episode about him having a baby that got the show cancelled, either because of the ableism or because of the concept of Reproduction on a kid’s show. Anyway I don’t know anything about him in this reboot, except that he’s there? I think?

I Just Finished She-Ra So Here’s Some Yelling
So the new She-Ra reboot just came out, and since it’s been pissing the hell out of butthurt middle-aged men, I decided I naturally had to watch it. If it’s pissing off the haters, it’s definitely worth watching.
AND I FUCKING LOVED IT
Like, god, it was so good. I was expecting a mindless kids show to waste my time on and maybe watch over a month, but instead, there were complex characters, deep themes, beautiful symbolism, and just a wonderful storyline. I literally almost cried multiple times, but it also had the funny, lighthearted tone of a kids show that ensured a happy ending. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still clearly made for kids, but definitely has the merit of being worthwhile for any age.
Anyways here’s some yelling about it, I’ll try not to spoil anything too big, but I highly suggest watching it before reading this so you can truly feel the emotion of this. There is only one season and the episodes are only 20 mins, it took me like two days to get through so go watch it.
First of all diversity? Visually diverse female characters who weren’t all sex dolls? Different body types and skin tones, honestly it was just so refreshing to see
Also likeable characters???? Every character was unique yet manage to hold a very dynamic personality and was definitely easy to like. Even the villains like Scorpia and Catra, you couldn’t help but fall in love with
Speaking of Catra!!!!! I fucking stan, oh my god so much angst in one small cat girl, and yet I literally would die for her
Honestly I stan all of the characters. Every time there was a new character I thought “new favourite character!” I did it with Catra, Glimmer, Bow, Mermista, Entrapta, Swift Wind...
Madame Razz is the such a stereotype of a “crazy old woman who lives in the woods” and yet I would honestly literally die for her
Spinerella and Netossa? A canon lesbian couple? That has two loving and supporting characters, neither of whom die or get hurt for the Angst? Yes, please
Speaking of, I hate queercoding characters but god every single one of them was a wlw archetype and I loved it with all my gay heart. I have a crush on all of them except Frosta because she’s 11 but you get the point
Also from what I can tell, the fandom seems to headcanon Glimmer as trans and I’m fucking here for it
Bow is my child and I love him
Angella? A sensible mother who is not demonized nor absent? Yes please, give me more of that
Adora reacting to anything she doesn’t know manages to be both endearing and depressing at the same time
Scorpia is a dumb gay mom just trying to protect her children and it’s endearing
The theme song!!!! Is so good!!!!! And I can’t find a full version and I’m salty!!!!!!!!
The only thing that really bothered me about the show was that the fucking sword just disappeared and reappeared with no real pattern or explanation and plot holes like that bug me
Okay, I know that half the fandom ships Adora/Glimmer and the other half ships Adora/Catra, but hear me out here. Adora/Glimmer/Catra. Untapped Ot3 potential I’m just saying
Also on the topic of ships Bow has a huge crush on Seahawk and you can fite me
Please watch She-Ra and come talk to me about it, none of my friends has watched it and I have no one to yell about it with
