Holy shit! I just realized the reason I couldn't fucking see darker art on my phone screen is because I forgot I turned the brightness way down last night and never fixed it. I feel so stupid.

I'd love to know more about "the wrong name" 😄

The Wrong Name is my working title for the angst fic I'm writing right now! It's centered around the idea that Hob would regret any attempt to deal with his feelings for his Stranger (Dream) through one-night stands or hook-ups, especially if they looked like Dream. He had promised himself in 1989 to wait for his Stranger to return, a self-sacrificial promise in his own mind, and any sexual encounter with a Dream lookalike would be seen as a failure, a broken promise. The entire fic deals with the fallout of one such encounter and is one of the darkest, angstiest, and most graphic things I've ever written.

I'm (hesitantly) calling it The Wrong Name because Hob's one-night stand called him Richard during sex, which is the name that Hob is going by in his current life. It shouldn't bother Hob, but it does and it's something I can relate to as a trans person. It's not the wrong name as in, "you're cheating on me and you accidentally said the wrong name during sex." It's the wrong name as in, "I gave you that name to use but it's not who I really am," and that's something that I think Hob would struggle a lot with throughout his different lifetimes. Only Dream calls him Hob and deep down, Hob wants to be called that, but only by Dream. It creates a bit of a paradox in his mind and truly, the entire fic is a bit paradoxical, in that Hob's logic isn't necessarily the most sound, but that was fun to play around with and explore.

It won't be a light or comforting fic, and it's not for everyone (I actually feel really bad for @btwimkindagay who wandered into the google doc one morning and was slapped across the face with the literary equivalent of a wet fish) but I think it's been a really fun writing exercise and has pushed me out of my comfort zone a lot!
