Ketheric was going to be recruitable???
Yep. He was intended to be a companion, here's the article: https://www.ign.com/articles/baldurs-gate-3-director-reveals-one-surprising-villain-that-used-to-be-playable
Ngl I'm just beyond disappointed that anyone in that dev team thought cutting this was a good idea. Especially when we know they went out of their way to add in a someone who wasn't put in this game as a companion and wasn't intended to be one initially, while Ketheric was, even more so because of how half baked it was. I'm baffled and gutted that this was worth keeping to them, while Ketheric, who is far more plot significant, was not.
You can still play up to getting to persuade him which was where he was meant to join you and idk why the fuck they left that in then.
I honestly wish they would stop fucking talking about what they cut now that they've abandoned the game.

Summary of the bmc apocalypse roleplays I did back in the day
Attempt 1- Jake's hero complex leads him to commit the crimes of harbouring a criminal, multiple threats of murder, and child endangerment often interrupted by bouts of major depression while babysitting
Attempt 2- Jake's hero complex leads him to leading a horde of zombies away from his community after promising to never abandon his friends again and gets lost on his way home
Attempt 3- Jake doesn't suffer from that much of a hero complex but does find himself getting kidnapped and escaping and getting lost. Then proceeds to get told off by Jeremy because he (Jake) wouldn't stay in the infirmary
Attempt 4- Jake's hero complex leads him to blaming himself for the destruction of the community he was leading (with the assistance of the Squip squad) because he wasn't there to protect them from being raided because he was out looking for supplies

The craziest thing about transitioning and primarily dating / fucking a lot of trans women is watching them do shit to me that my traumatized high school ex girlfriend did to both boys her age and older men a lot of the time; using me and my sexuality as an easy source of validation. I can count on two hands the amount of times a trans woman has put the moves on me and seen me as an easy lay, only to chicken out or fly off the handle when I reciprocate or try to do anything irl, much like my ex girlfriend did with her male friends. Sex is a power thing in these situations, a source of social capital and control rather than a genuine means of bonding or connecting with another human being, which is why they see it as ok to approach me with shallow intent, but not the inverse. Somewhat like when your mom has a bad day at work and yells at you over trivial shit like having socks on the floor in your room, it's a way to regain that autonomy and time that's stolen and beaten out of you.
And I mean, I get it. Look at how our society treats women and girls and their sexualities. There are several derogatory words and phrases in the English language alone that condemn women for wanting anything, women in tv and film for decades now have had nothing to offer except their breasts hips and asses, femme fatale tropes were pretty much everywhere from the 80s to the mid 2010s, the MeToo movement of the last decade, conflicting ideas in feminist spaces that give little to no consideration of intersectionality, throw being a trans woman in a patriarchal society in the mix and of course you're going to walk away with some screwed up ideas about sexuality. Hell, even as a guy who wasn't the primary target of a lot of that shit, I have some pretty screwed up ideas of it myself. Tbh after years of being a social nobody, it's kinda nice to be that sort of beacon of male authority for somebody that clearly wants approval in a way I can provide by just, existing. I'm a horny, straight, masculine guy, and I like female attention. We're both getting validation of some sort out of it. It's definitely a mutual thing, and it's kinda cool. It's one of those things that's gender affirming, even if it's in a very roundabout and vaguely disrespectful way.
But still, I'm a human being. All institutional and political connotations aside. I have feelings and needs, I very rarely harbor resentment or malice, so while I absolutely sympathize with these women and their traumas and try to be patient, I wish they would grant me the same graces. I really fucking hate that our society has screwed women over so much and continues to do so so often that even in trans spaces this kind of stuff is unavoidable. "Men only want one thing" taken to its logical extreme is kinda the overarching theme in all this. It feels like shit being seen as disposable or an easy quick lay / itch you need to scratch that you never have to think about again when I actually, genuinely am attracted to and care about trans women as friends and lovers, and actually want to build relationships with a lot of them instead of being seen as a walking dildo. Like I said, this mindset isn't entirely new and it's not the fault of any singular woman, nor is it unique to trans people, this has been a recurring pattern in spaces where marginalized men and women date each other since the fucking dawn of time. But damn is it frustrating. I wanna write a case study on shit like this when I'm older and significantly more secure.

I have an idea: we should all refer to only the first three seasons of the Witcher as the Witcher. Pretend the Witcher only has three seasons when more seasons come out, like we pretended we all saw and enjoyed Morbius, or that Goncharov exists. If people talk about season 4 of the Witcher, that’s not part of the show.

I have a friend who's still highly cautious around covid because she's high risk but she keeps posting all these screenshots of tweets about covid studies on her instagram in an attempt to convince people that covid is still very dangerous
and it's not that covid isn't still potentially dangerous, but one quick google search has allowed me to find every study that she has referenced, and without fail, every single one of them has been working with pre-vaccine, pre-omicron data. the most recent one she's posting about is about cardiac conditions post covid, and wouldn't you know, the entire sample was taken from people who caught covid between march 2020 and january 2021.
this was pre-vaccine, pre-omicron, hell, it was pre-delta variant (remember that one). this was the wild type covid, which our bodies were least immune to. it was the type that was most known to be causing cardiac symptoms and blood clots. besides delta, it was the most deadly. and no one was vaccinated.
so yes, in that group of people, who were unfortunate enough to catch covid during that period, the results of this study are likely very valid- they are at increased risk of heart disease. and that should be talked about and studied more and if those people end up with cardiac symptoms they need to be receiving proper care.
but we should not be assuming, without further study, that these risks are still the same for those who've been vaccinated, or who only caught covid after the omicron variant became dominant (the omicron lineages have been pretty different from the wild type and other pre-omicron variants, so it's worth noting that). like this is a study that must be replicated with a post-vaccine, post-omicron sample before you will even remotely convince me that those cardiac risks are the same as they were before.
and it is driving me crazy that my friend, who is also fucking trained in how to read science, is posting this shit seemingly without looking at the actual papers or thinking about the context at all. like it is driving me absolutely bananas. these posts aren't even like, direct quotes from the papers, they're screenshots of randos on twitter talking about these papers, as if twitter rando knows jack shit about what they're talking about. like it's all well and good to still care about covid but could you at least do it with less of the fear mongering?

i think something to keep in mind about The USAmerican Internet etc. is that that concept only applies to the internet in English - while neither USAmericans nor English speakers are even close to the majority of the world's population, the majority of English-speakers(/readers) (particularly native ones) ARE USAmericans. i think to some extent you get the same phenomenon with other languages - my (Latvian) family speak Russian, and a lot of the Russian Internet assumes that the reader...... is Russian
so sorry for the late response to this ask. it was likely old when I saw it and then I thought about it for a couple days. I might also have forgotten exact details on what the original post said
I don't have any experience with non english internet; so I'm sure what you say is true. it makes sense that a lot of people make assumptions based on language spoken.
but since English is so broadly used globally, I think that to assume everyone is american makes less sense. iirc the original post didn't deny americans were the majority of users. the chief complaint was that being a majority meant that they had a blindspot to people who aren't in america, or viewed foreign countries with a very american lens.
to be clear I don't ascribe fault or blame on americans. but imho it would go a long way for more americans to treat the english speaking internet as a shared global community, like everyone else has to
