'Hail, True Body': my boundaries

Now that HTB has become an original horror story series by me, I have new boundaries about it as it surrounds my OCs! I'll be adding this to the Masterpost once I update/overhaul it, but here they are in the meantime for people who might be wondering :)

Shipping I am fine with people shipping characters (so long as the ships themselves aren't inappropriate - e.g. no adults with characters that are minors, no ships that are family members, etc.). I don't plan on there being any romance in the main story of Hail, True Body: first and foremost, it's about platonic, familial, and self-love. It's about what it means to be human when it's in direct conflict with the horrors happening all around. It's about coming to terms with trauma, hurt, and facing it to move forward. Romance won't come into it as that isn't really an aspect I want to tell though there might be the odd background character who is in a relationship with another background character. Whilst I don't mind you shipping my OCs, I do ask that you don't be weird about it: don't message or tag me in NSFW stuff or demand that I ship characters together, please. Platonic shipping is very welcome. There is plenty of platonic intimacy in the series - hugs, wound care, comfort, etc. - to be found!

Art & Fanfic You are more than welcome to draw artwork or write fanfic of the series! All I ask is that you tag it back to the fic series on Ao3 and tag me here if you can so I can see and support it - I love seeing what you all make! <3 This also goes for animatics, comics, playlists, and even cosplay! Headcanons These are more than welcome!

Big steps are scary, but not moving forward is scarier u.u

So I've been sitting on this post for a little while now, I had planned to post it a few days ago but then I crashed for a nap and woke up to the news of LO ending so wound up using that as another excuse LOL

The last few months have been, to put it lightly, brutal. It's not that anything has happened, it's more like nothing is happening - the usual slow season in tattooing has been especially long, with especially less clients coming through the door, so while it's given me loads of free time to prepare for my conventions and work on other projects, it also means I'm not making as much as I'd usually make. And what I usually make is typically what supports everything I do here.

This has basically been me for the last half a year:

I'm very fortunate to have a job that satisfies my dream of making a living off art, controlling my own schedule, and making money doing it to boot - but the caveat to it all is that it's a luxury service that relies on the economy around me doing well, and the economy around me right now is very much NOT doing well. I'm also very fortunate that my savings are capable of supporting me, but that's all they are, savings - if I'm not making anything, they'll burn up eventually. I'm not sure how physically capable I would be of going back into retail / food service, and it's honestly just not something I want to do after coming this far as a tattoo artist.

I've also learned how valuable and necessary collaboration is during projects like these. Not just to supplement the quality of the work itself, but to supplement the working experience as a whole. Working with an assistant has been an eye-opening experience in that regard.

When I set out to make this account, it was for the purpose of LO shitposting, edits, essays, and nothing much more than that. I wanted to keep it separate for the sake of my mental health and for the sake of my separate audiences, because when I started here, it just... wasn't a popular opinion in the slightest to have opinions about LO and comics like it outside of the positive norm. I had a lot of fear for a long time built up in my head over it, but as time has gone on, I've fortunately had mostly positive experiences and even when they aren't positive... I've proven to myself that I'm capable of moving forward through it all with my head held high and that these scary experiences aren't as scary as they tend to seem in my head. That's really just the funny thing about fear over any sort of 'risky' endeavor.

That said, I've also branched out a lot more from this blog's original purpose. I've talked about the process of making webcomics, Webtoons as a platform, offered alternatives to creators seeking refuge from the more corporate platforms, given out writing and art advice, discussed topics concerning Greek myth, shared my own original works, and basically just naturally progressed into talking about and doing other things because LO will end eventually and I don't want to restrict myself to talking about the same comic forever LOL

This is a crossroads that I've been at for a few months now. And I know nothing will change unless I take a step forward. It might wind up not being in the right direction in the end, but it's forward, and that's all that really matters to me, because staying in the same place forever isn't good for anyone.

So, I guess I'm gonna stop yapping and just show y'all what I've been working on! I brought this up in a Twitch stream the other day and people in the chat were all very supportive and optimistic, so I'm hoping those of you who follow me here will be too ╭( ･ㅂ･)و (and if not, well, you can kick my ass in my inbox later LOL)

I've applied for my genericpuff account on Twitch to become an Affiliate channel and am just waiting on the approval process. Assuming everything goes through well enough, y'all will be able to subscribe to my channel or support it with bits. If I do get approved I'll be doing a rehaul of the channel design and offering some fun lil' goodies for the chat, and I'll be trying to stream at least twice a week.

So please go follow my Twitch account if you haven't yet! It's the best way to get early sneak peeks of Rekindled, as I'm usually working on new episodes, but we're usually also chatting about LO, webtoons related stuff, and other fun topics ٩(｡•ω•｡)و

But now for the biggest new addition - I've started a Patreon account specifically for my genericpuff stuff ! Normally I would redirect anyone who asked to my main Patreon, but it's not as active nowadays simply due to my original projects being on hiatus. And it's not exactly the best space to share any bonus goodies related to my genericpuff account.

That said, I want to make it clear that I will still be putting limitations on what I offer on this page. Anything related to early access sneak peeks will still be free for all. This will be a glorified tip jar first and foremost, most of what I will be offering as bonus goodies and incentives will be stuff like time lapses of pages, art tutorials, original character designs, critique requests, early access adoptables, deleted scenes, etc.

Basically it'll be stuff that I'm already making (or want to make) but will be exclusive to patrons that won't be tied exclusively to the reading experience of Rekindled. The comic will always be free to read, not just because of the legal stipulations of it being a fan project, but because I want it to be.

I think I got a lot of new followers recently because twitter keeps going to shit. However, as you probably know I can't and don't post nsfw art here.

You can find my NSFW socials on my pinned post. I think a lot of people are hesitant to join platforms which aren't fully available to the public yet but if you'd like to keep up with my nsfw art I'd like to:

In the last year I have started using PF and Cohost more than Mastodon, as they've implemented new features and their posting system is more in line with what I enjoy: robust tagging and filtering, ability to post MANY images, and readmores for long posts.

If you've been hesitant to join either of those platforms since you don't know what to expect here's a small-ish review of both purely from my experience as someone who: a) enjoys profile customization b) likes to have an organized art gallery that is filterable by tags.

This review is aimed at artists looking for NSFW spaces to post! UI screenshots might have suggestive terms and images. Proceed with caution.

Edit: Good grief tunglr, if you open this on the web dash the images aren't shown in the neat galleries I put them in to make the post shorter. Head on over to the permalink if you'd like a better looking post!

Let me just say that if you're looking for a review on more technical aspects of these platforms, like security and moderation policies. I'm not your guy. You'll have to look elsewhere for that. I'm focusing on QoL UI and community aspects.

Though both these platforms allow nsfw, please make sure to read their ToS/Community Guidelines for rules on what is and isn't allowed. Though as far as I'm aware they have pretty similar rules.

Pillowfort

Overview::

Pillowfort has more years under its belt being available to users than Cohost does, as such I THINK the artist/fandom userbase atm is larger, which means you might see more activity there. UI as of right now is very comfortable and the site runs pretty smoothly. Loading times are very decent. Posting is easy, though the image uploader is a little wonky (they are working on fixing this). You are able to create and manage communities based on interests or themes, which people can follow or join and all post in the same space. You can personalize your profile by adding images, links, and formatted text to your sidebar, as well as customize your own profile colors. Tag searches in my experience yield results of both art and aesthetic irl porn and gifs. If that's something you miss from ye olden tumblr days it might be worth a look.

Pros:

Posts have privacy options (everyone, logged in, followers, mutuals, only me)

Has a DM system

Posts have Commentable, Rebloggable, NSFW toggle

Can post MANY images on a single post

Readmore feature for long posts

Robust tagging system

Robust filtering system: hide or click-through warning (by installing Tassel userscript only)

Customizable profile colors, Light/Dark mode for whole website

Communities you can follow/join for shared interests

You can filter posts on profile by tag

You can filter posts on profile by "original poster" or "reblog"

Cons:

wonky image uploader, cannot upload multiple images at once

Cannot search for multiple tags at once

Search for terms with periods in them is currently broken (ex. "D.Gray-man" will not yield any search results)

Communities have few moderation features atm

Without Tassel installed the filtering system is pretty garbage atm (you can either show or hide nsfw or filtered tags completely, with no click-through warnings)

No multiple account/side blog feature yet

Some inline image formatting options are broken atm

Default endless scrolling

No progressive web app for mobile atm

Cohost

Overview::

Cohost feels like it has a small artist/fandom userbase at the moment. However, to make up for that it has a pretty slick UI, it works great as a progressive web app on mobile, and it recently implemented an ASK system similar to tumblr's! Everything loads pretty quickly, and you can switch between your "latest posts" feed and your "bookmarked tags" feed. You can access your likes as a bookmark system, but as a whole "notes" and engagement numbers except for comments are not visible anywhere (this is wonderful for my personal mental health). It has a simple post editor and though the image uploader only allows 4 images that will load with lightbox, there's a workaround to upload MANY inline images if you want. The catch is you'll need to use a bit of markdown or html to do that. (more on that below) Though you can't personalize your profile colors, you can add personality to your page by making very cool pinned posts and adding images to your sidebar.

Pros:

Animated avatars! (listen i like having my animated komui icon)

You can make multiple "pages" (blogs) which function independently for comments/asks. switching between pages is effortless

Ask system, with anon toggle (you cannot reply privately atm tho)

2 Factor Authentication

Progressive web app for mobile works like a charm

You can preview your post before you post it

Posts have a NSFW toggle and you can save drafts

Can post MANY images in a single post (bit of a workaround as you'll need to upload your images to a draft first and then add them to a new post with some markdown or html code)

Readmore feature for long posts

Robust tagging AND filtering system (show, click-through, hide completely), plus CW system to give your posts additional click through warnings you deem necessary

You can do incredibly cool things with HTML and inline CSS on your posts

You can filter posts on profile by tag, and you can have pinned tags

Toggles for hiding reblogs, replies, and asks on profiles

Paginated browsing instead of endless scrolling (things load faster)

No engagement numbers visible ANYWHERE

Cons:

Image uploader does not let you upload multiple images at once. Limit to 4 images (can upload more as inline images with code)

Advanced post formatting (ex. bold, italics, bullet list, inline images etc.) has to be done through markdown or html + css which is not the friendliest for those who don't know any code (there's a button for a markdown cheatsheet when you post tho!)

No dark mode, or customizing profile colors atm (however there are workarounds to changing site colors with Stylus extension)

Cannot search for multiple tags at once

Cool things you can do with CSS on your posts might look very bad on mobile

Since you can do some crazy things with CSS on posts, you might come across eye straining visuals and movement on some posts. There are settings to tone this down, and people are pretty good about tagging things, so with some good filtering you should be able to avoid this however.

A little quieter on the artist/fandom front (but we can change that)

If you made it to the end of this review thanks for giving it a look! If there's something vital you might want to know that I missed in regards to UI and posting features let me know and I will try to answer. But again, this is not a technical/security issues/bugs review so don't ask me about that.

Lastly, I've been seeing a handful of NSFW artists I follow on twitter hopping on bluesky. I REALLY suggest you do a little research on the owners and platform to see if you think joining is worthwhile, since I have a feeling many artists might not want their alternative to be a site owned by crypto advocates (and also a billionaire). Some basic research will get you there. Just take heed and use your best judgement. On that note Cohost is strictly against crypto (I'm guessing PF might be too but I don't have a link that I can point you to confirming this atm).

I believe community driven and supported platforms are the way to go. If you end up thinking either of these two places are worth your time, do consider getting your friends and favorite artists on board or supporting them! You'll get added perks on both platforms if you become a supporter. PF recently added the ability to have MULTIPLE AVATARS (PFPs I think they're called nowadays) which I think is super cool (i really miss that from LJ days).

Man it's been a long time since I've done an ask cluster! Let's see if I can get some down...

He's an extremely fun character to write for and play with! So in that sense I'm fond of him, haha. He's such a huge disaster of a person, there's always something fun to do with him. Well "fun" in a relative sense.

I don't have anything to forgive him for, he didn't hurt me. |D He hurt the brothers!

I do have an idea for a cute feature inspired by Six-Eared Macaque! I should really sit down and do that already... and finish the one I half started but never finished...

I don't think my opinion on any of them changed! I love them all, haha. Which ones I drew comics about just depends on which ones I get ideas for really. Sometimes I get Alphys ideas and sometimes I get Goatparents ideas! Inspiration is fickle!

I don't have any solid plans or anything. :B Just gonna keep chugging along with silly comics and art! Work on Defrag and such. I'd like to finish a Ladyverse comic I've had lying around forever, and I had vague plans for doing a doujin for them too I could work on... and also seeing if I could format Handplates into a book format... I've always got a bunch of projects, haha.

It works on that level! It wasn't intentional though. |D

I do enjoy speculation! I don't really have much of my own though, I didn't predict anything in chapter 2 so now I'm assuming I can't predict anything in the future chapters either, haha.

Emesis Blue is great! Some really beautiful visuals in there, very striking! Love the mood of it too and a lot of the surreal imagery. I think it helped spur me back into TF2 again, haha. Medic and Scout's relationship was so cute.

I have thought about this! It has its share of challenges though... I outlined them more in this post. A pdf would be more doable though... could even include some extra stuff as well! Hmm...

I can see that! He'd probably spend as much time out in the rain as he could just doing whatever to stay outside.

It was pretty much always going to end like that. I always wanted it to end on a hopeful note! Which might seem weird with how dark it is at the beginning. I DID for a brief period at the very beginning of Handplates think about stopping with the Pacifist run, but that was only because I thought going where I wanted to go would take too long and already the project seemed so dauntingly huge at the time, haha. But it was always going to end in a positive way!

Gaster talks about what he originally intended to create here, and he explains a bit about the physical experiments he runs on the brothers here. They aren't really a solution in and of themselves so much as tools to try and find a way to break the barrier. Really though, Gaster got stuck in the sunk-cost fallacy lol.

I don't really have opinions about what canon Gaster would be like. |D Handplates Gaster is his own thing really. Canon Gaster, who knows! Deltarune Gaster, who knows! I will say I hope Gaster stays a mystery in Deltarune and never actually shows up but I think the odds of that are really low at this point.

I thought about doing a script along those lines! I did a few rough drafts of one, but it never really went anywhere... it'd end up dead-ending or kind of meandering off. I might see if I can get an actual script down for a side-comic or something in the future... it might be better suited for a fic.

I was just thinking about this lately! I was picturing Gaster totally forgetting about that until he sees Papyrus squinting and is like OH GOD YOUR EYES THAT'S RIGHT D: and goes to get him looked at lol.

I couldn't come up with a good idea for Flowey which is a shame, I do like him, haha. If one comes to me though I might make a little side comic about it!

Gaster's LV is complicated... his stats in-game are ludicrous if I recall correctly. Did he carry the damage from his murders into the void, even if those murders weren't his in the new timeline? Deep thoughts.

He fed them anything he could find, haha. Which is why sometimes they just ended up with chocolate bars (which he intended as dinner for himself). He probably fed them more often than he fed himself lol. He did feed them fairly regularly though.

Not about skeletons, probably. |D

Man I know I had an explanation for this but it was so long ago... it's hard for me to remember. It could be that the Riverperson is just weird and has weird insight into elements of things, had a prophetic dream... I don't know! It bugs me now that I can't remember this, haha.

Here are the things that making a Fire Emblem hack has taught me about both Fire Emblem and the community.

1. Writing a Fire Emblem story is incredibly difficult.

The format of Fire Emblem stories is incredibly hard to get a grasp on when you're designing around permadeath. Once a character joins your army you either have to completely take away any truly meaningful impact they have on the story or have their death just have them retreat, which a lot of players don't like. It's also very difficult to have story directly be integrated with the gameplay, and most often you have to settle for most of the story happening before and after the chapter's gameplay.

2. You need to accept that complete balance is impossible and often times more boring than the less balanced decision.

The FE community gives broken units and strats a hard time a lot, however it's important to consider that those things are only as broken as they are because of all the information available about them. It's also worth noting that incredibly strong units or items can be fun when not being so absurdly busted that you have to actively try to not let the game break itself. We often times get so obsessed with having every unit, weapon type, and item balanced that we forget that perfectly balanced games aren't always the most fun, these are strategy games at the end of the day yes, but they're also supposed to be enjoyable games.

3. Sometimes you just need to ignore people.

This is Subaru. And Subaru is an incredibly good earlygame cav in the second part of my romhack. He has great stats all around except for his strength growth which is a measly 15%, despite this being a setback that in reality can be easily overcome through powerful axes and doubling that 15% growth really throws quite a few people off and they end up immediately benching him and calling him a meme tier unit. Feedback that you know is ill informed like this example can end up being detrimental to your work if you listen to it at face value, Subaru originally had a much higher strength growth and was obscenely broken as can be seen in this video of an earlier build of the game.

So essentially sometimes you just need to be confident in your own ability to tell when something's good and when something isn't. Of course don't just write everyone off, but do be sure to know when it's time to just dig in your heels and say that you know what you're doing.

4. The Fire Emblem community is incredibly talented.

I've made it clear before that I'm not really good at art, I hardly even know how to edit portraits by a slight bit and yet my romhack is able to have all of these wonderfully made custom portraits, battle animations, tilesets, and songs because of how amazing this community is at making and sharing their work. Within the Fire Emblem hacking community there's a resource known as the 'graphics repository' which holds things like community made battle animations, portraits, and tracks for anyone to use for free as long as credit is provided. I can't explain enough how invaluable of a tool this is to both new and experienced romhackers and it really speaks volumes that the FE community can be very helpful and inclusive when it wants to be. Alongside that there's FEbuilder, the amazingly intuitive all in one romhacking tool created by 7743 that other romhacking communities could only dream of, it's insane how advanced these tools are, I don't even know any C+ or ASM and still have completed an entire romhack with a sequel in the works.

I was just sorta bored and figured I'd talk about romhacking for a bit, anyway if anyone's interested in my romhack I'll post a link to it here, it uses FE8 as a base and is fully complete with 25 chapters. It's missing a lot of supports and paired endings but other than that you can play it to the end.

Anakin sits across from Zena with his thighs spread and his arms outstretched over the back of his chair, taking up as much room as possible. He's dressed up a bit nicer today than he usually is for these interviews. A loose-fitting grey t-shirt, black cargo pants, and black boots that lace up past his ankle.

Anakin doesn't enjoy doing interviews but it's part of the job, so he tries to have a little fun with it. It may be his own twisted kind of fun, but it entertains him nonetheless. It certainly doesn't hurt when the interviewer is kind on the eyes.

Zena's pretty; she has glasses and wears pencil skirts and blouses that have one too many buttons fastened. She doesn't look like Anakin's typical co-stars who all have filler and eyelash extensions to make their eyes look even prettier when they tear up from choking.

She doesn't act like his co-stars either. They're always all over him, wanting just a shred of attention from the most sought-after male star in the industry. Zena is all business; she's not seeking his praise and she doesn't want to use him as a jumping-off point for her career.

Zena is the kind of art you want to touch, but aren't allowed to. She makes you wonder what lies underneath that buttoned-up collar. She can't be as proper as she seems; everyone has a dirty secret, but as hard as Anakin tries, she won’t let him discover it.

Anakin doesn't like to admit it, but he isn't used to women who don't fall all over themselves to get to him. He likes their banter, it's not something he usually gets to experience. Maybe he's being a little difficult in these interviews, but it's fun to try to make her crack. She's doing the same thing to him, so it's only fair.

"We've talked a lot about your series so far, but I would like to get more insight into your personal life," Zena says, crossing her legs.

Anakin eyes her legs shamelessly, tracing the lines of her calves down to her kitten-heeled shoes. She sits upright, looking very proper compared to Anakin’s lazy posture. His eyes flick back up to hers, finally ready to stop ogling her.

"What about it?" he asks.

"What do you like to do for fun?" Instead of responding to her question, Anakin raises his eyebrows just slightly in a suggestive manner. Zena blinks at him, obviously not accepting what he’s trying to convey as an answer.

"I like to work out," Anakin responds.

Zena hums as she scribbles on her notepad. “That’s not surprising. You clearly put a lot of work into maintaining your physique."

Anakin has a smug expression on his face from the comment. He knows he looks good and he’s told so often, but Zena’s acknowledgment of it makes him preen with pride. It wasn’t even a compliment really, but

Moving on, Zena asks the next question. "Are you in a relationship?"

Anakin huffs a small laugh. "I don't date."

"Why not?"

"Why would I? I get paid for the best part of them already, and I don’t do that shit for free." Anakin takes notice of Zena's expression of mild disgust. "I hope I didn't crush your dreams," he adds, smirking.

"Not my dreams, though I can sense hearts breaking across the galaxy," she replies.

Anakin has never had an interviewer who can roll with the punches like Zena. It's impressive, though it does bug him that he can't get her to break. He supposes he just has to try harder to make her sweat.

"That's enough about my personal life," Anakin says, tone not leaving much room for argument. For a moment, surprise flashes over Zena's features as she flips through her notepad to get to the next question.

"Alright then," she says. "Why don't you describe for us your perfect scene? If everything was entirely up to you, what would you shoot?"

Anakin wets his lips as he looks at Zena. There's no way this question wasn't meant to bait him.

"That's a good question," he says, just to see if she'd have any reaction to the minor praise. Unfortunately, she's still as stone as she waits for his answer. "I have a good amount of pull around here, being the main star and all, but if I had complete control..." Anakin adjusts in his seat like he is searching for an answer as if he didn't already have one in mind meant to get a rise out of Zena. “I’d want to do it home video style. No camera crew, no lighting, no mics. Just a small camera on a tripod shot in her bedroom," he says.

"Why specifically her bedroom?" Zena asks, not reacting to any of his comments.

"It'd probably look nicer than mine, and I've always liked the look of a woman's room. It has lots of personal touches you can't get on a set, so it feels more authentic. And there's something about being invited into a sacred space that's appealing to me."

Anakin isn't being untruthful in his answers, but he is playing it up a bit. Zena nods along with what he's saying, but Anakin can tell there's another question brewing.

"And what kind of co-star would you be looking for?" she asks.

That's exactly what he wanted her to ask. Like innocent prey, she has no idea what she just set herself up for.

"Not an actress, that's for sure. No offense to the girls, they're all great, but it gets boring after a while. I don't want the exaggerated moans and begging. I just want a regular woman who's down to make a video."

"Careful, you're going to get people thinking they have a chance with you," Zena jokes. Anakin lips turn into a smile, honestly enjoying this interview more than he thought he would. "Would there be any specific content you'd like to include?"

Anakin presses his tongue against the inside of his cheek as he thinks, the action only half-meant as an innuendo. "I like a lot of things, but I'd want to keep it more tame in this. Crazy stuff is meant for the studio, but a home video lets you capture the passion that you don't get on set," Anakin explains. "We'd just fuck."

For the first time in any of their interviews, Zena looks affected by Anakin's words. It's not obvious and if Anakin didn't have a keen sense for horny women, he probably wouldn't have noticed it. Her legs are crossed a little tighter, her chest rises and falls quicker, and she has a punishing grip on her pen.

Before Zena has a chance to respond, Anakin speaks again. "But what about you?" he asks.

His question catches her off guard. "I'm sorry?"

"You've done a lot of interviews and I'm sure you've seen your fair share of films. What's your perfect scene?"

Anakin schools his expression into one of earnestness like he's genuinely curious about her answer. He is, to an extent, but he has an ulterior motive. He told Zena his acting skills were rusty in a previous interview, but perhaps that was downplaying his talent a bit.

"Well... that's not really my area of expertise," she says, surprising Anakin with her eloquent answer. Not that he was expecting her to babble incoherently, but he would have thought it’d take longer for her to recover.

"This is the house of amateurs after all," he says, leaning back slightly in his chair to make himself look even more imposing.

Zena narrows her eyes at him slightly. "That's all the questions I have today. Thank you for your time, Mr. Skywalker. As always, it was a pleasure speaking with you."

Zena's abrupt ending to the interview catches Anakin off guard, but just like her, he can adapt. He smiles at her and leans forward in his chair, extending his hand for her to shake.

"The pleasure was all mine, Miss Daren," he says, looking into her eyes. Surprisingly, the close proximity and eye contact don't make her shrink away.

The cameras cut and Zena slips her notepad and pen into her purse. Before she could stand up to leave, Anakin stood in front of her chair, blocking her path.

She raises an eyebrow at him inquisitively. "Yes?"

"I'd like to speak to you privately. Off the record," he says.

"Okay," Zena says. "Go ahead."

Anakin shakes his head and steps aside so she can stand up. "Not here." Zena doesn't appreciate the subtle power play he pulled by blocking her in, but she supposes he's used to that trick working. "Do you smoke?" he asks.

She nods and without another word, Anakin walks off towards the door to the patio. He holds the door open for her and once outside, he fishes in his pocket for a cigarette. Zena offers him the lighter out of her purse and he thanks her as she lights her own. They stand in silence for a bit while the smoke swirls around them. Zena waits for Anakin to speak but he doesn’t say anything.

"So what did you bring me out here to talk about off the record?" she asks.

Anakin leans against the wall of the building and looks over at her. His eyes shamelessly trail over her body, even more so than during the interview.

"I like you," he says.

"Thank you," she says, slightly confused.

Anakin sighs. "You're not gonna make me do this whole song and dance, are you?" he asks.

Zena takes a drag of her cigarette and the smoke flows easily out of her mouth. "I don't know what you're referring to," she responds.

She's playing coy, Anakin knows that, but coy isn't cracking and he desperately needs to see what's under her buttoned-up exterior. Anakin resolves himself, knowing he has to tell her directly what he wants. Anakin steps closer to her so she has to look up slightly to meet his eyes. She doesn't back away, much to his delight, but it's another show of her strong will.

"I want to fuck you," he says.

Zena blinks at him, not looking surprised at the admission in the slightest. "I don't do porn, Mr. Skywalker," she replies easily.

"I'm not asking you to."

"You said it yourself, you don't do that shit for free," she says before taking another puff of her cigarette.

Zena huffs a laugh. "I know you're used to women just throwing themselves at you so hopefully that's your reason for being so bad at this," she says. "No girl wants to hear that they're the exception, no matter what your scripts may tell you."

"I'll be fine," Zena replies with a roll of her eyes.

Anakin reaches out to grab her wrist and tugs her inside the closet. He shuts the door behind her and backs her against it, hands gently holding onto her hips.

"I've been thinking about having you like this for weeks," Anakin says. "Been dying to know what you're hiding."

"What I'm hiding?"

Zena sighs as she steps into her skirt and pulls it back up, then reaches for her discarded bra. While she redresses, Anakin pulls up his pants and fastens them, but remains shirtless. “You don’t strike me as the cuddling type,” she says.

Anakin huffs a laugh. “And here I thought I fucked the brat out of you.”

He doesn’t bother hiding how he watches her stuff herself back inside her bra. Zena then slips her arms into her blouse and starts to button it, but Anakin stops her before she can get to the top. She cocks her head to the side and looks at him questioningly.

“If you ever want a job, I can pull a few strings. You’d add a sense of authenticity to the series,” he says.

Zena scoffs, shaking her head in disbelief. “And we’re right back to business, huh?”

“I’m just saying,” Anakin steps into her space and puts his hands on her hips. “I don’t fuck for free, and I know that greedy cunt’s gonna be needing more of me.” He’s smirking proudly like the arrogant diva he is.

“I know this must be hard for you to believe, but I’ll be just fine without your dick,” she retorts, mirroring his smug expression.

“Sweetheart,” he grins. “I got you hooked. You can deny yourself all you want but you’re gonna be dreaming about me.”

Zena pushes Anakin’s hands off her and collects the rest of her belongings from the floor before straightening up to face Anakin head-on. She looks perfectly proper again, save for the two buttons not fastened at the top of her shirt. It gets under Anakin’s skin a bit that he wasn’t able to wreck her beyond repair.

“I’ll see you next week, Mr. Skywalker,” Zena says using her professional voice as she extends her hand for him to shake.

Anakin bites the inside of his cheek and smirks slightly as he grasps her hand. “Yes, you will, Miss Daren.”

Zena turns on her heel once Anakin lets go and exits the closet without looking back. Anakin doesn’t see the wink she gives the camera mounted by the ceiling as she leaves the bedroom. When he hears the front door close, he sighs heavily. Yeah, he fucked her, but he wanted to break her open and catch a glimpse at all the things she’s buried deep inside her so no one could find them. Everyone else lays themselves bare for Anakin, but Zena is the only person he’d had to work on in years.

He’ll see her again in a week, and he already knows he’s going to turn the teasing up to hopefully convince her to fuck him again. He talked a big game about Zena wanting more, but it might be Anakin who’s addicted. Not to the sex, per se, but the chase of a woman who’s won’t give herself up to him.

Is this a common magical thing in the world he's from? i'm so glad you like my oc (and their face)!!

i admittedly haven't done that much worldbuilding for the place he's from, but (as of now) it's quite similar to our modern world, except that there's all kinds of supernatural beings living among humans. you can recognize some of them (because of characteristics like horns or wings), but others blend in with the human crowd better.

as a young child, face stealer unfortunately happened to encounter a more dangerous kind of supernatural entity that had the ability to take away human faces. that's actually a rare encounter even in that world, and most humans aren't even aware of such a thing existing. as a result, the faceless child wasn't recognized by their own family, and was left all alone with nowhere to go.

a different type of supernatural being took pity on the child, and granted them the power to acquire faces so that they could get their face (and life) back. however, they didn't manage to find the thief. a lot of time passed, and they forgot what they originally looked like - and on top of that, when a face gets taken away, it ages according to the flow of time together with the new owner (side note, it's actually the entire physical appearance that gets taken - i call it 'face' because i feel like this phrasing sounds nicer than 'appearance stealer'). it's like searching for a needle in a haystack.

face stealer is convinced that things will simply feel right when they finally find the original face and 'try' it on. however, the plausibility of that is very questionable. over time, face stealer has amassed quite the collection of other people's faces that they can swap between at will. ironically, they ended up becoming the same kind of monster that took everything from them as a child - the only difference is that face stealer was originally a human (at this point, they may actually be much closer to being one of those supernatural entities rather than a human).

But the song also begins with the pronoun "She's saying Baby come and follow me"

Some fans on Twitter are saying this is a reference to a gf or something.

Whats your take on this?

Hi! Thanks for your ask. Sorry for the delay in replying! And to start, I think it's fairly clear that I don't think Jimin is straight, in my opinion, based off my views. But in that same vein, I think he also likes women. I mean, he has shared previous school crushes on a girl with us. So a "she" in the lyrics of a love song, wouldn't ever really throw me off personally. But that's just me. On top of that, Jimin did share his notes of his lyric writing process for his songs on FACE. And we can see for Like Crazy, his original planned lyrics said "baby" in place of "she." So that probably got changed for a better flow, either he did that himself, or it was suggested to him by RM, Pdogg or one of the other people who helped and gave input to the song. Either way, I don't think it's indicative of a girlfriend or an ex girlfriend in anything factual. But everyone can think what they will and have their own opinions of it for sure.

Now, for me, honestly there is a lot of queer coding through this whole MV and through subsequent performances/choreo/promotions for this song as well. Lyric breakdown can be found here before we go further:

During the Set Me Free portion, things line up very similarly to Freddie's "I want to break free" video, where he cross dresses. And for those who don't know, he fairly openly queer as an artist. He was involved with both men and women regardless of never openly stating or confirming his sexuality (that I know of). In the video, we also see Jimin looking through vinyls, including Queen and Nirvana. AND in the LC MV set, we see on the wall writing that says "Set Me Free" "Moon" "Wake" among others AND a Queen sticker too.

He talks and makes references to accepting both sides of himself a lot. It's in his stylistic choices, his art, how he expresses himself. And it's been a repeated theme for AWHILE now and if you aren't seeing it... it's because you don't want to

To get deeper into it, some of the historic queer imagery and iconography Jimin used in this MV specifically and just in FACE promotions in general... would include Philip Johnson, the architect of the Glass House, openly gay and where the term "the glass closet" was coined from. A photo of his is once again in the FACE Playlist video.

Robert Mapplethorpe, his portrait on the jeans Jimin wore through the MV and several images in his photobook I believe too. A photographer specializing in male and female nude works, among other things. Including his most controversial work being his documentation of the gay male BDSM subculture scene.

In the photobook, he is pictured several times in an outfit where he is wearing Jean Paul Gaultier y/series Bodymorph jeans. Specifically he is wearing the "woman" set. The designer Specifically described this series as exploring and playing with the concepts of gender, he liked the idea of there being a mens set, and a womens set and them being able to overlap each other. The bodymorph clothing sets have naked human body prints on them. So!Yoon who recently worked with and is friends with RM (if not friendly with the other members too) also recently wore these in her album release as well. You can interpret him wearing these as you choose of course. I personally think it's speaks fairly clearly to the same things I was talking about above, with him referencing all things gender and how he is leaning into the more typical feminine iconography here with these pants for his softer side of the photoshoot for his album.

I think looking at the designs for both sets also makes it more clear which ahem, set, Jimin is wearing too. Lol and how some of the models are mixing the sets (including So!Yoon wearing the women's set as well in a diff color)

And lastly, while it might not have to do with the album directly, it does involve Jimin and is worth mentioning here as it was lowkey part of album promotions. During the first ever performance aired of Like Crazy on the Jimin Fallon show, Jimin worked with 8 backup dancers and one of them was nonbinary and shared their experience and how comfortable, welcoming, non judged and appreciated Jimin and staff made them feel the whole time. How they got to just be who they were the whole time. It speaks the type of environment Jimin cultivates around himself all the time.

And during the teaser that was shared of Jimin working on his album with Pdogg and others. They talked about how for 10 months, Jimin basically lived in Pdoggs house. They all just lived together and ate, slept, breathed this album. Lol and in the hallway of Pdogg's house, we see that he has a Stonewall rainbow art piece. Which if that is what that is, is very special to have the education over Stonewall and the support of for that in your home in Korea. I won't speak to it either way, if that is what it is, great. If it's not. I'm just going to enjoy a rainbow in the same shot as Jimin regardless. Lol

At this point, there is deep references to historic queer iconography in so much of Jimins art, it's fair to say we aren't guessing anymore. He is as out as he can be without explicitly saying anything. For me personally at least. And no one is owed an explicit coming out from anyone for any reason. If you listen to what he says, what he sings about, what he photographs, what he dances, what he shares with us? It's all right there too see. So plainly. Queer people have always had to talk and listen between the lines. It's there if you want to see it. And it's fair for queer armys and queer people to react and talk about the continuous use of queer icons and imagery Jimin has used over the years. It's not assuming anything. It's just listening to what he is telling us and sharing.

[I had to spell Wishlist upside down to keep the alliteration going]

So, here's my first original post in quite a while. Apparently, the last one was a whole hundred followers ago - immense thanks to all 400 of you!!! And also, Tumblr informed me I got 1000 likes and kindly generated a picture for me to thank y'all for them with!

Given that's 2.5 likes per follower, I assume they mean 1000 likes just on my original posts, which would track considering most of my posts are additions, and liking all of those either counts towards that tally as just one like to my original post, or if you liked it through a reblog potentially nothing at all, because maybe likes to reblogs aren't counted even if they're reblogs of my own posts. But don't think I'm a numbers-chaser, this is just me wondering. Really, the only reason I even look at the activity chart of my blog is because I started trying to make that line as straight as possible for giggles (and then some of my posts blew up and ruined it, ecksdee). The thought of someone having enjoyed what I wrote has me smitten every time I see it, and I can barely even comprehend the idea that it happened a literal thousand times. I still can barely wrap my head around four hundred people all having decided they actively want to hear more from me. (Usually it's the opposite, har har.) I love all of you for it. The freaks, the puritans, the children (wait I just said that OOH GOTTEM), the adults, the uncomfortably weird, the hyper-organized users that use different blogs for each one of their passions, the hyper-random users that reblog my posts right after diaper fetish art. (And if you thought that was some whiplash, imagine the guy who followed a diaper fetish art blog getting shown me.)

But this is just me buying time, isn't it. Alright alright, let's talk about the wishlist, beginning with its premise.

This is not advice. This is not a list that makes sense at all, really - most of these items are way far down the list of things I'd do with the money they cost and/or the effort they'd take. This is a dream, where those aren't a factor. Just like some people's dream car is a ten million dollar hypercar that was built directly into the bodies of five Middle Eastern oil moguls, my dream car is a Miata with exactly these bits. (And a Seven, but I really need to stop confusing y'all with them being tied for the favorite car top spot.)

This list is based on a note I started in middle school for the fun of it (which is hopefully understood as the driving motive behind this all) and gradually updated through high school and sort of left behind after that, having kind of run out of bits to add to it. It's split into six sections:

Exterior

Interior (i.e. cabin, trunk and engine bay)

Drivetrain (i.e. anything that plays a role in making the wheels spin)

Chassis and suspension (i.e. chassis and everything that connects the wheels to it)

Electronics (i.e. electronics/microcontroller-related features)

Miscellaneous

This will be a chance for me to check the prices of all the things I listed and, at the end of it, tally up their total cost and feel feelings about its enormity. But of course, we'll need to start with a thing that was not in the note, as it was a given to me: the base car. So that will be the subject of my next addition to this post.

Because I can't make this a single post. Absolutely no chance. Even just any workaround to the image limit being about a fifth of the length of this list would be a nightmare for me to execute and for y'all to navigate. And frankly, the length of the task would make me, if not outright give up, at the very least skimp on the kind of explanations and discussions that I must assume are why you're all here. So I will need to make additions to this post (in the form of a reblog, of course) each going over one section at most. But truth be, even doing one reblog per section presents those problems, so some sections would need splitting in a number of parts. Or I could go to the other extreme and made one post per item (or when appropriate group of items), which would allow me to expand upon every which one as little or as much as appropriate while still keeping a tidy presentation. But to do this I would need to hide all the information bar the name under a Read More, because if I put as little as one picture before it by the time I'm at the end of the list every time this post appears in your dash you'll have to scroll past some hundred pictures to get to the bottom of it; also, of course, this would mean this post showing up in your dash upwards of a hundred times - though of course you could just ignore it a bunch of times and when you feel like it go through all the parts you've not read yet at once.

Right now I'm leaning towards the one post per item approach, which would allow me to work towards the completion of this abomination in small daily steps rather than in age-long parts which would also help addressing your other submissions. But it's very hard for me to figure out what y'all would prefer, as it's kind of hard for me to figure out who would actually want to read through the entirety of this. So, y'all are welcome to leave your feedback in the replies or through this non-binding format poll.

This was based on various Creepypasta AU's I saw, more specifically @crushedsweets and @necroromantics, and I decided "yo, that's fucking AWESOME- what if I made my own AU??"

BUT BEFORE READING MY INTERP, READ THEIRS BECAUSE BOTH OF THEM ARE FUCKING AWESOME WORKS OF ART !!

So, erm... anyway!

Hopefully, you guys end up fucking with it and I don't end up getting jumped in the comments or something lmao. That'd be a real woe-is-me situation, amirite??

Synopsis: A disease that never leaves once it gets ahold of you, a being so cold it makes you want to cry around it. An entity unforgiving with so much influence and so many pawns, where do they all lie in between it?

General Content Warning: darker versions of characters (whoopsie daisy), implied manipulation/gore/cannibalism- darker topics all around concerning characters. Depression/ Suicide heavily went into detail in Anneliese’s (OC) section.

Notes: I just wanted to generally post my interpretation/ The AU I made/ follow, it’s still a WIP, but I sincerely do hope you guys enjoy what I have so far. When I say relationships I don’t necessarily mean romantic, it can be platonic, etc. Besides, NOBODY ends up getting together in my AU simply because I do not want them to, lol. (Outside of Jane and her wife, Mary, ofc.)

And YES, we're posting this in chapters because this is already up to 15 pages long on Google Docs and I don't want to scare you guys away with my yap sessions. 😭😭

All of the Creepypastas/Proxies in this blog belong to their original creator, I am just adding my own take on the character/ HC's onto them and am NOT trying to endorse these characters as my own. O1. The Operator

The Operator is a being like a disease located all around the inner depths of the woods- he doesn’t have a form (more on that later) and can infect people to work like mindless zombies underneath him due to him slowly gnawing/ eating at their brain like a parasite. He doesn’t /ever/ step outside of the inner woods, so therefore he relies on “hosts” (proxies in my interpretation) to wander outside the inner woods/ outside in general.

He chews away and eats at their brains until they don't know what life was like until they started working for him, memories disappearing day by day as you're only forced to move on and go forward and try not to focus on how you can barely remember to do simple tasks outside of killing.

He doesn't have a form since he's a disease, a parasite that causes you to slowly have avid hallucinations of him- but it's not actually him, just something your mind came up with to explain what's happening to you.

And just like any disease, there are stages to the “Operator Sickness.” (There's no name for the disease he gives you, so that's what Brian and Tim came up with and everyone stuck by considering they were the first of the group to be "influenced", nonetheless "hosts".)

You cannot contract the sickness out of nowhere/ just because you’re in the woods. The Operator doesn’t go for just run-of-the-mill people, who usually target those who are already emotionally vulnerable and already feeling homicidal. He does not target anyone else because he deems them as useless for his cause.

1- static begins to form around electronics in your house, occasionally you might see some shadows move in the corners of your vision and feel a slight loss of appetite over time, but nothing too extreme.

2- you start to not want to eat at all, paranoia slowly begins to seep into your being as you /swear/ your electronics are whispering something to you among the static. It’s bad, but not terrible to the point you’ve completely snapped, although your sanity is slowly deteriorating day by day. You begin to have nosebleeds occasionally, but not too frequent to the point it’s concerning.

3- you’re more snappy, you begin to hear voices in your head urging you to kill- paranoia has taken complete control over your life and you begin to see hints of /HIM/ forming among the static in your electronics. You begin to form hallucinations and swear to see/HIM/ despite there being nothing there. Nosebleeds and vomiting up blood are occasional, but not frequent in this stage. You also begin to have avid nightmares about The Operator, which are so vivid they can’t help but feel real.

4- nosebleeds and vomiting up blood nearly happen every single day, you see /HIM/ everywhere you go, in every corner of a room you’re in. The voices are speaking to you nearly every second of the day, you don’t want to eat but when you finally do you vomit it all up again. You hear /HIM/ speaking to you, motioning you to the woods, and urging you to “give in to your desires” of harming the people you love. There’s no going back once you reach this point, and if you don’t harm yourself or others- you’re going to be quick to go. He doesn’t mind killing those who are useless to him or provide him no gain, after all.

He is not kind, he is not a parental unit or a father figure to his “hosts” or “influenced”, he just sees them as people he can use for his benefit. He does not care about them or share empathy/ sympathy with them- he is a looming threat to anyone who dares to enter his woods, and more specifically his “hosts” since he influences them/ has more influence over them. At will he can psychologically target them/ torture them, breaking their mind into shreds as he forces them to /remember/ their past, only to make them forget, only for them to remember- a grueling process that can make anyone go mad. And the worst thing is, he can do it whenever and how long he pleases- never backing off until he feels that they’re sufficiently tortured, to make it a “lesson” out of all things if his “hosts” or anyone under his influence dare to go against him.

He talks in whispers, in a calm collected tone throughout your mind- but with cool intentions, a looming threat in every word he speaks which subconsciously influences you to hold fear to him, to feel the need to comply unless you wish to end up with a fate worse than death.

In my interpretation, my “hosts” have either completely forgotten about their past, (Toby and Kate), or remember it- but not by much other than big events that happened. (Eyeless Jack, Tim/Masky, and Brian/Hoodie.) He’s a parasite that eats away at your brain and takes your memories with him in the process of doing so, he slowly deteriorates his “host’s” and “influenced” brains over time until they’re nothing but a shell of the person they once were.

As I briefly mentioned earlier, he does not have a physical form due to being a parasite. He is more a hallucination caused by the psychological damage he does to those he affects, he does exist- but just not on a physical plane of thought and more so a psychological parasite that harms those it gets into contact with. Because of that + your deteriorating sanity, it's easy for him to make you hallucinate what he is + what he looks like even if he doesn't exist.

i.e. The Operator will be a good distance between Toby and him, and to the public eye, he doesn’t exist. But Toby will be talking to what he thinks to be The Operator in a psychologically tormented state causing him to have avid hallucinations, but nobody will be there.

The Operator does exist, but kind of hides away and doesn't go out to check on those he's tormenting unless he direly /needs/ to. (i.e. if Masky and Toby keep on messing up a very dire mission The Operator placed them under, then he goes out of his way to see them.)

Because of this, he doesn't really have a form or stick to one- usually busy on the move to try and infect as many people as possible.

Subpoint A: The Background

The Operator has been rumored to exist for hundreds of thousands of centuries, no one really knowing the origin for such an entity who can break those it comes into contact with- and those who were able to come into contact with it merely lost their memories of the interaction or didn't live to tell the tale.

Rumor has it that The Operator began in Latin America in Brazil, in 1897- found luring small children from their parents into the woods for them to never be seen again. But then it got more morbid, twisted, even as children came back from the woods never looking the same- not remembering anything at all about them and their parents, or the topics they were taught in school. They wouldn't smile about their favorite toy like they used to, instead they'd stare with a nonchalant face and would shrug their shoulders before going back to aimlessly staring at the woods.

Parents obviously got concerned and began to take their children to the doctor, where the only guess to do at the time was a lobotomy in a feeble attempt to "fix" the child.

Nothing would change and their child would only be /slightly/ altered, causing parents to grow steadily enraged and paranoid- all this was taken to a point where REDACTED and REDACTED led a rally to march into the woods and take down whatever had been harming their children.

REDACTED left with 12 men, all of them being fathers and marched into the woods- never to be seen again, one of the fathers being the only one to come out from the voyage nearing a whole month later.

He looked /terrified/, and paranoid and was seen to be acting erratic- covered in blood and insisting on things that weren't there, scaring away anybody who got too close. He ended up being thrown into the mental ward, and REDACTED took it upon themself to find the remaining men.

REDACTED left in the early morning and wouldn't come back until noon, bloodied and holding on by a thread- grabbing their notebook and drawing a simple stick figure with no face before dying shortly after.

And that's when the rumor began- that anyone who dared to get too close or too in-depth into the woods was like walking into death, and anybody who dared to do so would die.

Subpoint B: The Location

Rosswood Park is where The Operator is usually located, nobody knows why or how- but assumption is because the people of Brazil became so aware of him he couldn't infect anymore people, he had to go somewhere else to find new victims who hadn't even heard of him.

So what better then in North America in Alabama, in a park nobody would suspects an old parasite to be residing.

In a park where nobody from a movie-in-the-making could even assume something was wrong.

He's a parasite that could roam between woods at will, especially the inner depths- but he just generally prefers RossWood Park because there's always a bunch of prey there waiting to be infected, and also because he generally has the most amount of "influence" there with all of his "hosts"/ "influenced" there.

If he's not seen in Alabama, he's usually seen in Maine for their looming forests that stretch out miles long.

Just finished IWTV book, so now I can say the differences between the book, movie, and show. The movie is quite accurate to the book, while the show is more original. I love them all quite a lot, but I think the show is my favorite since it's the most romantic. Long post with spoilers below the cut.

book:

The depth of Louis' interiority, especially his thoughts about religion, can only be found in the book. I am also ex-Catholic so this is high-key my shit. Especially knowing Anne Rice went back and forth later in life. I can relate. Louis wants to talk about his feelings with other vampires, but Lestat and Claudia aren't interested, which is the main reason Louis is attracted to Armand. Where is the Brideshead Revisited crossover?? Louis get in a bisexual love triangle with the Flytes for me🙏

I learned in the Matt Baume video on Anne Rice that she wrote IWTV while grieving her daughter, who died of leukemia just before her sixth birthday. This feeling of grief, reflected so clearly in Claudia, is the most moving and unique aspect of the book, far more than anything between the adult characters.

One reason this feeling is watered-down in both adaptations is that in the book, Claudia is only 5/6, the age of Anne's real daughter. In the movie she is 10 and in the show 14. Of course it would be impossible to find a 6 year old actress who could act with the maturity of an 80-year-old woman. But the character is even more pitiful and bizarre as a little child than as one nearing puberty.

In the book, Lestat is shown to have survived the murder attempt pretty early on, and he keeps jump-scaring Louis and Claudia on their adventures. I prefer the movie's version where they hold off on this reveal. Though of course I always love to see him, lol

In the book, I got the impression that Lestat and Louis are both bi, but Lestat prefers men and Louis prefers women. Still, their motivations aren't driven by sexuality in a straightforward way. For example, Lestat's ideal prey is a young man, because he loves to destroy their potential. Louis feels something like love for a few women characters, because he feels empathy for their misfortunes.

The adaptations soften/change Louis' status as a slave-owner; in the movie, he frees his slaves, and in the book he just flees. As much as Louis is a soft-hearted quasi-feminist, defined by his guilt and regret, he is still racist and close-minded in most ways. This seems realistic to me.

I did think it was interesting and cool that the enslaved people can tell Louis and Lestat aren't human, while the other plantation owners and even Lestat's dad have no idea. But we don't get their perspective, just Louis' racist assumptions.

Yeah in the book Lestat has a dad! It is rather confusing since Lestat explains nothing, but it creates some great melodrama. I guess I have to read the next one and hope for a backstory reveal.

Fun spooky detour into Eastern Europe! I hope the show goes there in season 2.

Louis and Armand's discussions are really cool. I especially loved Louis' monologues after Claudia's death. There wasn't room for these discussions in the movie, but I feel like it'll be a main focus in season 2 of the show.

movie:

Like I said, the movie is impressively accurate, and a beautiful work of art on its own. The best innovation is holding off on the Lestat reveal until almost the very end. This makes it look like their murder attempt really did a number on him, and it took decades and decades of rat-eating to even drag himself out of the swamp. I like that.

The movie also has a more exciting and ridiculous ending, in which Lestat attacks the reporter in his car and drives away to Guns N' Roses. The book ends with the reporter hurrying off to find Lestat himself. It's funnier and more awesome if Lestat is the one driving the plot and the car. Pleased to meet you :D

"How avant-garde." Best line in the movie, and it's not from the book!

Since the movie cut out most of the minor characters, there isn't as much evidence for Louis' bisexuality. Louis seems more like, gay but closeted. And Lestat seems more like, gay but misogynist, so he'll prey on women just for sport lol.

I'm a Fight Club guy so I love that this is, like, a reverse companion movie (this time, Brad Pitt is the pushover in a dangerous gay duo)

show:

This is the only version that is clearly gay. But this dynamic is the same: Louis wants to talk about things, and Lestat does not. In this case, the focus of these discussions is not vampirism or religion but their relationship. Louis points out that he is gay and Lestat is bi. Perhaps it's just because I saw this version first, but this is my favorite version of their sexualities. The show simply spends more time with this dynamic, and how it affects everything, including their interracial relationship and openness in society.

In the book, Lestat is a talented but soulless musician. He can play anything, but without heart. In the show, music is Lestat's one genuine connection to humanity (even if this connection just leads him to kill musicians who don't impress him). I believe later books go more into Lestat as a musician, so I'll have more thoughts on this later.

Since the reporter is cynical, old, and dying, this creates a much more compelling conversation within the framing device. He holds Louis to task with a forcefulness that rivals Lestat. It is a clever way of modernizing the story, since Daniel references their last interview in the 70s (when the book was published), and you are meant to wonder which version is more truthful.

Since Claudia is 14, she can pass as an adult, and she is able to go on her own rather disastrous adventure. It is exciting, terrifying, and sad, and a welcome addition for this character, though it is much different than the book's helpless, heartless Claudia.

The Catholicism in the show is flashier, but not as interesting as the book. For example, in the book, Louis is haunted not just by Paul's death, but Louis' failure to meet Paul's faith-driven monetary demands. In the show, Paul's ideas seem like more of an annoyance. Maybe there will be more religious doubt in season 2, but I don't really expect it.

In the book, it seems like Louis and Claudia throw Lestat in the swamp since it's faster and more thorough than fire. In the show, the oven they use is a major plot point, and Louis can't bear to put Lestat's body in it because he still loves him. Instead they throw Lestat in the trash, which is one of my favorite tropes (see: Maul in The Clone Wars, Soldier 1998). This is just one of the many ways the show complicates and deepens Louis and Lestat's bond.

I feel like the show is more believable and has more deepness in general, since it's a smart retrospective on an old franchise and a response to decades of vampire fun in pop culture. For example, in the show Louis has volunteer humans to feast upon, and it's very "safe, sane, and consensual," versus the universally predatory relationships in the book and movie. Because we all know now that if vampires were real, and they were hot and rich, they could get all the blood they want without hurting anyone. An ethical vampire like Louis isn't impossible anymore. Compared to other billionaires, he's a pretty decent guy.

So, I'd say the book has the most profound perspective on grief, the movie has better structure, and the show has the most complex romance.
