#my vote is for peanut butter cookies

I wrote a thing for a writing contest minigame for the DCASS discord!!!
It's just a silly little thing and it's not super long but I thought I'd share on here now that the voting is over :3
One shot under cut!!! :D
You were making cookies. It was a winter holiday staple, so of course you absolutely had to.
Your house was quiet, save for the music playing from your phone in the other room and your own quiet singing along with it.
You lived alone, and had been for a while. You'd occasionally see your friends and family, but they all lived pretty far away.
Not to mention your tendency to self-isolate.
Despite this, you were pretty lonely. The baking was helping to distract you, though, so that's what you decided to focus on.
That's how it started, anyway.
You made all sorts of cookies- chocolate chip, peanut butter blossoms, snickerdoodles… and gingerbread.
You'd just started decorating them when you got a call on the cellphone from the room over.
You'd only left the kitchen for a second. What could've possibly gone wrong?
A lot, apparently.
The two gingerbread cookies you just finished were missing from the plate you just put them on. There were a few crumbs on the table next to it, but other than that, they'd vanished without a trace.
Confused, you look around the kitchen.
You didn't have any pets that would be able to steal food from the counter… Did you eat them absent-mindedly?
You didn't have the lingering taste of gingerbread or icing on your tongue.
Where could they have gone?
The only two gingerbread men you cut out have suddenly disappeared, leaving you only little trees, stars, snowflakes, and candy canes.
Honestly, you were quite upset.
You were really proud of how those came out, and you at least wanted a picture of them before anything happened to them.
You made them celestial themed, something you naturally found yourself drawn to. You thought it would be cute to have them be opposites. One themed after the sun, and one themed after the moon.
You used some leftover candy corn from Halloween as little sun rays, and made a little blue Santa hat for the moon themed one with icing and tiny marshmallows like the ones you could find in hot chocolate packets. It looked far too plain without it.
Not that it really mattered now, you thought.
You sighed.
They were so cute, you really wished you could have gotten that picture.
You picked up your red piping bag and started finishing the candy cane cookie you started before you got that call.
You started slowly laying down the outline of the next red stripe. Slow and steady for a smooth line.
Until you were startled by a spoon falling off the table behind you.
The red icing bled a little too far into the white, ruining the effect of a swirling red pattern around the cookie and leaving behind an ugly splotch.
“Man-”
As you went to pick up the spoon you caught a glimpse of something orange dart behind one of the containers you had out.
What was that?
You peeked behind the Tupperware only to find your two gingerbread men.
Standing.
Staring back at you.
It felt like your brain short circuited. You could not come up with any response, not to mention a coherent one.
What. Was going on.
The moon themed one stepped forward in front of the other protectively.
It held a brave face, but you could tell it was trembling.
“Where are we? What do you want with us?”
It could speak!?
“..I- you… you're in my house… you're a cookie.” You stated, a little unsure if this was reality.
It looked down at itself and back up to you.
“...A cookie?”
“They're… you're a sweet food that people eat-”
Both of their little frosting eyes widened at that.
“You're gonna eat us!?” Screeched the sun-themed one.
“What!? No! I mean not now,” you ran your fingers through your hair, “I didn't know you were alive.”
Were the other cookies alive? How many lives did you start and end just because you were craving a sweet treat?
The cookies shared a glance between each other.
You sigh,
“Ok. Come here.” You stick your hand out for them.
“I won't hurt you, I promise.”
It took a second for either of them to move at first, but the sun one took a tentative step forward.
“If you aren't going to eat us… then what are you going to do with us?”
“Probably try to figure out how this happened so I don't accidentally do this again, but other than that, I have no clue.”
It (he?) hesitated before stepping lightly onto your palm. He was still a little warm from the oven.
“Are you going to get rid of us?” He asked as you lifted your hand from the table, setting the other near the moon one. He shied away slightly with a growl.
“I… don't know. I don't really know anything about what's going on or why or how you're alive or how to keep you that way. Like… do you eat? Will you get stale? Can you get sick?”
You thought for a second.
“I… might like it if you two stayed, though. And I don't know what would happen to you if I kicked you out.” You grimaced at the thought.
“Why do you even care what happens to us? You literally were going to eat us before.” The moon one remarked snarkily.
“I literally did not know you were alive or even could be alive before. Besides… it might be nice to have someone else around the house.”
He glared at you suspiciously as the sun one leaned forward in interest.
“You'd let us stay?”
“...I might… but we have to figure this thing out together. You guys gotta tell me what you need when you need it. I don't want you hiding something from me and getting hurt over it, alright?”
The sun one turned to the moon one, who stared back for a moment before relenting.
“Fine. But try anything funny and you won't like what happens next.”
“Deal.” You smiled.
You turned back to your piles of other, probably non-sapient cookies.
Would it be rude or insulting to eat these now? Would it even be morally correct?
“So like… what am I supposed to do with all of these?”

So, what does a Teen Advisory Group DO, anyway?
The short answer is that a TAG does whatever the YA librarian needs done at that moment. TAG members can help to create virtual displays, book reviews, or other social media content. If library staff need to spend their funds on stuff like craft supplies or snacks to share during programs, they can ask the TAG for suggestions so that they'll spend those funds on things that teenagers actually want.
The way I ran my TAG shifted when we moved from an in-person to a virtual program several years ago. While I do miss having this program in person, I will say that one kind of participation improved in the virtual space. That's when I need to spend my YA funds on something, I share my screen so everyone can see all the choices we've got, I scroll through the options slowly and ask questions, and our teens type a running commentary in the chat. THEN I save that chat so that when I do my shopping, I can incorporate their suggestions!
At yesterday's TAG meeting, I needed our teens' input in some shopping decisions. While I can't recreate the whole meeting, I can share the most important part of it. Just imagine that I'm sharing my screen and talking out loud while asking questions like:
Do you want to vote on craft kits or do you want to vote on snacks? [Guess what? They went for the snacks. SHOCKING, I know!]
Should I bother getting healthy snacks, or are teens not going to eat them?
Do Funyuns even count as a food group?
What kind of juices do you recommend?
Then our teens typed their answers, which I thought were both enlightening and entertaining, so I decided to share them with you. ENJOY!

[Family]
My brother’s name starts with D. Neither of my grandfathers are alive. I look more like my mother than my father. Both my parents are in a serious relationship. I am the youngest of three children. I am the only girl. My mom’s mom is NOT your typical grandmother. I don’t really like my cousins. I have less than five cousins. I’ve shown up at a family party while under the influence.
[Religion & Politics] I was raised Christian. But I’m no longer a Christian. I believe in God. But I think the Bible is bullshit. My beliefs aren’t influenced by people around me. My dad is religious. My mom tries to be, but who is she trying to fool? I hate church. I wouldn’t have voted in the last election even if I was old enough. // I have nothing to say, voting is mandatory here I hate politics more than anything.
[Food] I honestly never stop eating. Chocolate + peanut butter = orgasmic. I only eat Cains mayonnaise. I’ve never eaten a fruit I didn’t like. I love cooked broccoli but not raw broccoli. I love raw peppers but not cooked peppers. I’ve gone a day or more without eating. I crave chocolate on my period. Pizza Hut has the best pizza around. Cookies & Cream ice cream is one of my favorites.
[Sex, Love & Relationships] I’ve been told that I was a nine out of ten at giving head. A guy has cheated on his girlfriend with me. I’ve never been cheated on. I had my first kiss when I was fifteen. I lost my virginity in the woods. My best friend lost her virginity a week after me. In the same place I did. I’ve been in the same room as someone having sex. I would rather be on the bottom.
[Music] I download my music from LimeWire. I love country. I love old school rap. I love alternative. I have All Time Low’s new CD Nothing Personal. And I love it. I love to sing, but I suck horribly at it. I cannot play a musical instrument. I want to learn to play the drums. I used to take piano lessons.
[School] My GPA is between 2.0 and 3.0. I took Algebra 1 in 8th grade, and again in 9th. I’ve passed a class with a D-. I don’t do my homework at home. I prefer mechanical pencils. I always do projects the night before they’re due. I’m really smart but don’t always apply myself. I text in school. I’ve gotten my phone taken away in school.
[Beauty & Hygiene] I straighten my hair often. On lazy days, I scrunch my hair to go out. My only make-up necessity is mascara. I like to wing my eyeliner. I’d rather take a shower than a bath. I’d rather use body wash than a bar of soap. I’d rather use a bath scrunchie than a washcloth. My solution for make-up on lazy days: sunglasses. I use the same routine every day in the shower.
[Smoking, Drinking & Drugs] I smoke cigarettes. I’ve gotten drunk within the past month. I’ve smoked weed when by myself. The first time I got high was on a holiday. Marijuana should be legalized. I have never and would never drink and drive. I hate light beer. My lighter is purple. My favorite cigarettes are Turkish Silver or Camel Crush. I’ve quit smoking but started again.
[Random] My nails are pink right now. Going to bed at midnight is very early for me. I could never date a guy that didn’t make me laugh. I have a jar of peanut butter in my room right now. I wear sunglasses a lot. Gogurt is really good in the freezer. I’ve been in Hollister, but I don’t own anything from there. Purple is my favorite color. There is no such thing as an ugly color. I need more pens. ______________________________________________________________
I like where I’m at right now. My feet are freezing. I hate feeling awkward. I love driving on country roads. I love driving fast, too. I currently have a cold. I have a crush. No, it’s more than a crush. I always wondered what it’d be like to start over, where no one knew me. I go on Yahoo Answers. I get nostalgic every once in awhile. I really don’t like my father. My mother is one of my best friends though. I don’t mind when people stare at me. No, it’s annoying as fuck. I can’t stand people who are extremely selfish. A Change Of Pace is a good band. I have gotten a new phone within the past month. I want to go to Florida soon. Peach snapple iced tea is theee best. I wrote books when I was younger. I’m really creative, especially when I apply myself. I use Facebook a lot more than I used to. I’m constantly told I’m beautiful, but I still sometimes don’t believe it. One of my friends came out as gay this year. I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t have someone. I’m way too quiet, and I wish I could change. I need to party. Music and books are my favorite. I love everything about the fall. I always smell really good. My hair looks nice today. I have long fingernails. I’ve kissed a Ryan, Mike, or Justin. I’ve been in love with a Josh, Christian, or Scott. I envy no one. I’m going to an amusement park soon. For a halloween-related thing. I don’t like beer. I don’t like soda. I’ve worn a turtle neck in the past year. I wear them often. Outspoken is something I’m not. I express myself through quotes and lyrics. Photography is beautiful. There’s beauty in everything, you just gotta find it. I ordered a pizza recently. Tonight, actually. I wish I could have a whole new batch of friends. Even though I do love the ones I have now. My nose is stuffy. I like orange juice. And sandwich wraps. I love cozy nights at home. I like playing Hebi. Apples to Apples is fun. I have to start applying for jobs. I really need one. Ahhh life is changing fast. I tend to drive a little bit over the speed limit. My razor only has two blades. // three, I’ve counted recently My keyboard is black. I use my friends as arm rests and pillows. My favorite number is odd. My favorite number is a single digit. I love having butterflies in my stomach. The last make up I wore was eyeliner. I’d love to have a winter wedding. I’m really ticklish. I have a facial piercing. I’d only get a tattoo that has significant meaning to me. My boyfriend is taller than I am. My school has a shitty football team. I play Pet Society on Facebook. All politicians are the same, in my opinion. I can’t eat sushi with a fork or else it feels awkward. I’ve never been to New Mexico. I’d definitely consider adoption if I couldn’t have my own children. I like plain-colored t-shirts. Horror movies don’t really scare me. I have a decent vocabulary. Lord of the Rings doesn’t appeal to me. I don’t play any sports. I prefer orange juice to apple juice. I like my toast with butter and jelly. I love cream cheese. I have a celebrity crush. // you name it, it’s more like a platonic squish, though I get frequent headaches. I can play a little piano. My boyfriend drives an Asian car. // no it’s French And so do I. I WANT MORE PIERCINGS. My favorite fruit is a type of berry. I miss somebody right now. Some of my friends live far away. I can burp out the alphabet. I love breadsticks. I can count to ten in at least two languages. I’d love to have a pet owl. I prefer dogs to cats. I only wear actual perfume on special occasions. But I wear body spray on a daily basis. I have pictures of my sibling/s on my phone. ______________________________________________________________

In good/fun news for me
I’ve really been wanting to test myself more in the kitchen and do fun things with Shabbats and stuff, and so I had my family vote on little character themed Shabbats for the upcoming months, and this month they voted on Winston!
For me, it was a combination of personality and what I think they would cook and serve, and for Winston I think those two dovetailed nicely. At first I was hesitant because it didn’t seem special enough, but Jetty pointed out that warm and comforting is right up the ol Winston alley, and he is also, as Lena says, ‘American by way of the moon’ My menu!
Chicken and dumplings: recipe here
Big soft warm rolls with honey butter
drink pairing: Peanut butter milk stout
Dessert:
Rich hot chocolate with peanut butter whiskey
Giant chocolate chip cookies recipe here

12) "A good movie begins as you're walking out of the theater" - Ethan Hawke
13) “When I was young and starting in cinema, there was a saying that I carved deep into my heart which is, 'The most personal is the most creative.’ That quote was from our great Martin Scorsese.” - Bong Joon-ho

17) “They help you with the dumb face stuff, but they don’t tell you how to fix it” - Adam (Nate’s friend), on having older sisters
18) “We all had our connections, but it’s not the details themselves that matter, it’s the feeling behind them. There are a million coming-of-age tales. Lady Bird’s secret sauce is how deeply its creator gave a shit. The older I get, the less I care about anything but the sense of a filmmaker’s personal connection to the material. It doesn’t matter what it’s about, what genre it is, or whether it’s genre at all. I only really care that it feels like something the filmmaker had to tell me, and that it was that filmmaker in particular who had to tell it. It has to answer the ‘why are you telling me this’ question, and not just why are you telling me, but why are you telling me.
Lady Bird is a movie that feels like only Greta Gerwig could’ve made. And it’s only because it’s so specific to her that it can be so meaningful to so many people.” - Vince Mancini
19) "I have cast some lonely votes, fought some lonely fights, mounted some lonely campaigns. But I do not feel lonely now.” - Bernie Sanders
20) “Ever hear a Beatles song you haven’t heard before?”
21) “Drinking is an emotional thing. It joggles you out of the standardism of everyday life, out of everything being the same. It yanks you out of your body and your mind and throws you against the wall. I have the feeling that drinking is a form of suicide where you're allowed to return to life and begin all over the next day. It's like killing yourself, and then you're reborn. I guess I've lived about ten or fifteen thousand lives now.” - Charles Bukowski
22) “You shouldn’t have to hear a band to know if they’re good or not” - Josiah Hughes
23) “I was raised by OGs.  Some of you were raised by IG.  I understand.” - Ice-T

[Here is where I note the line of demarcation that was the COVID-19 pandemic hitting the US, pushed forward by Tom Hanks’ announcement, the NBA and NCAA shutting down, and, then, the nation itself.]

24) “There are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happen.” - Vladimir Lenin
25) "Taken together, this is a massive failure in leadership that stems from a massive defect in character. Trump is such a habitual liar that he is incapable of being honest, even when being honest would serve his interests. He is so impulsive, shortsighted, and undisciplined that he is unable to plan or even think beyond the moment. He is such a divisive and polarizing figure that he long ago lost the ability to unite the nation under any circumstances and for any cause. And he is so narcissistic and unreflective that he is completely incapable of learning from his mistakes. The president’s disordered personality makes him as ill-equipped to deal with a crisis as any president has ever been. With few exceptions, what Trump has said is not just useless; it is downright injurious." - Peter Wehner
26) "Epidemics have a way of revealing underlying truths about the societies they impact." - Anne Applebaum
27) “A funny thing about quarantining is hearing your partner in full work mode for the first time. Like, I’m married to a ‘let’s circle back’ guy — who knew?” - Laura Norkin

32) “It’s like a power outage, but we still have power” - Ryen Russillo, on the pandemic
33) “Whenever Sox baseball returns, it’ll be weird to not have Farmer on the call any more. The relationship between a fan and longtime announcer is always built in the little moments. One afternoon, he’s the soundtrack as you clean the garage. On another night, he’s your bookmark for the game as you stand in line for churros or walk down the ramps at Sox Park to try for better seats in the 100 level. A voice like Farmer’s becomes so familiar that you only really notice when it’s no longer there.” - Kevin Kaduk, on the passing of Ed Farmer

“I’m going to stand on the ground like a skyscraper”
Is there a necklace that you wear all the time? No. I haven’t worn a necklace in years. How often do you wear skirts? Never. Do you enjoy baking? I used to, especially during the holidays. I haven’t done any baking the past few years, though. Do you have a large kitchen? No, it’s really small. Is anything sore on your body at the moment? Of course.
Do you like 3D movies? No. Where were you 3 hours ago? Sitting right here on my bed. Have you ever heard of Hot Chelle Rae? Yeah. I liked a couple of their songs. Do you know where Poland is? I know it’s in Europe. Are you afraid of dying? Yes. Are you wearing socks right now? Always. Do you speak your mind? I keep a lot to myself. If you found a wounded bird, what would you do? I honestly don’t know. I’ve never encountered a wounded bird. Ever rode on an elephant? No. Have you ever had braces? Yes, but not for my teeth.
“Cause I finally realize that I can’t get you off my mind”
Have you ever eaten a crayon? No. Do you like strawberries? Yeah. I haven’t had any in years, though. Wrestling or boxing? Neither. When's the last time you went to the mall? Last December. Have you ever gone Christmas Caroling? I have, actually. A few of us from the psych club I was in at my community college went caroling one year to a few different nursing homes. It was nice, they seemed to enjoy it. What song do you never get tired of? There’s numerous songs that will always be a favorite of mine. Do you have a favorite chef? No. Do you know who Travis Pastrana is? Yeah. What song pumps you up and makes you feel good? Hmm. What's bothering you right now? My back and the fact that I don’t feel well.
Favorite flavor of gum? Minty flavors. Does your school have air conditioning? How many mirrors do you have in your home? 5 that I know of for sure. That doesn’t include handheld mirrors, though. What does your wrapping paper look like for presents this year? I haven’t bought any, yet. Do you like Jay-Z? I’ve only liked a couple of his songs. However, the Linkin Park and Jay-Z collab album was/is dope.
“we’re gonna party like it’s your birthday”
What time was it 14 hours ago? 5:30PM. What's the craizest thing that happens in your hometown? Uh, high crime rates. :X Have any of your friends ever stabbed you in the back? Yes. What's your favorite city? Beachy, touristy cities throughout California. Have you ever laid on a hammock? I think I have as a kid. Who's the most famous person you met? Jamie Lee Curtis. Have you ever had a boyfriend/girlfriend stolen from you? No. Where do you want to live someday? Near the beach. I’d love to have a beach home one day. Do you like your eyes? I wish I had blue or green eyes instead. Do you wear a watch? Nope. Do you like peanut butter? Yes. Do you tan easily? If I spend a day at the beach I’ll sunburn and then it turns into a tan. That’s the only time I spend a long period of time outdoors. Do you have sensitive skin? Yes. Do you care if people smoke/drink? Not in general, no. If it becomes a problem then yes. Has anyone ever gives you roses? Nope.
“every little thing that you do, I’m amazed by you”
How many hours of sleep did you get last night? Sigh. I dozed off around 5AM and slept until 7AM and here we are now at 7:53AM. I don’t understandddd. D: I’m going to definitely attempt more sleep, but I have to call my doctor soon. Do you hate it when babies cry? If it’s loud and excessive it gets overwhelming and annoying. Would you like to get snake bites? (the piercing) Not now, but I wanted them back when I was like 16.  Would you move to a new state/country to be with the one you love? That’s one of those situations I’d have to be in to know what I’d do. It’s hard for me to even imagine cause I’ve never even been close to that before. It’s also hard for me to imagine ever moving far away from my family. I think I’d try to work something else out to be honest. Like, maybe they wouldn’t mind picking up and moving here? Why would I have to move?  What is your name? Stephanie. What do you plan on buying in the future? Christmas presents for my fam soon. Who is your favorite "That '70 Show" character? I don’t have one. I actually watched that show during its original run, but I tried again years later when I was older and couldn’t get into it. There is a mummy behind you. What do you do? Uh, run? What do you think of Miley Cyrus? I like her. Do you tend to think you are always right? Absolutely not. What was your favorite toy as a child? Barbies. I was obsessed. Do you think more about your funeral or wedding? Uh, neither.  Dinosaurs or unicorns? Unicorns, I guess. You need new jeans. Where do you go? I haven’t bought a new pair of jeans in years. I’d probably look at JCP first since that’s where I used to get them. I always found the perfect fit there. What do you think about Maroon 5? I like a lot of their music.
“someone pinch me, I must be dreaming again”
Have you ever snuck into an R-rated movie when you weren't old enough? Nah. How many Emily's do you know? I don’t know any. Have you ever slept in a tent outside? No. What's your favorite kind of Girl Scout cookie? I like all of ‘em really except for the coconut ones. Their newer cookie, Lemonades, are quite delicious. What do you hear at the moment? An ASMR video. Why do you think a lot of people left Myspace for Facebook? Facebook became cooler for some reason. I remember not wanting to make the move at all, I thought Facebook was lame lol. I just did it because everyone literally left. I don’t know about everyone else, but when it happened for me it was soon after graduating high school and Facebook was for college students, so I guess we just graduated from Myspace or something. *shrug* It’s crazy how quickly it flip flopped, though. Myspace became lame and now we all kinda laugh about it. Do you watch the Olympics? Nope. Have you ever been to Minnesota? No. What's the strangest thing you've seen on TV? Hmm. What do you miss most about elementary school? I miss being elementary school ages the most, but also school was fun back then. I liked the projects and music class and this thing called field day that we did on the last day of school every year that consisted of like relay games and whatnot. It was fun. Anything funny happen to you while you were at Wendy's? Uhh, no. I very rarely even go to Wendy’s. It’s been awhile. When's the last time you picked up a stick? I have no idea.

There’s no such guy at the moment. Ever touched a fish? I don’t think so. Maybe as a kid with my pet fish. When's the last time you uploaded pictures onto Facebook or Myspace? I uploaded a new profile picture last month on Facebook. Do you have any band-aids on right now? Nope. Ever had a blister? Yes. Not fun. Do you watch the show The Hard Times or RJ Berger? No. Have you ever voted for anything? Yeah, for elections and other smaller stuff. Do you like high top shoes? I can’t wear them cause they’re hard for me to get my foot into. Do you think those nerd glasses are cool? What are nerd glasses, exactly?
Do you own any t-shirts of your favorite band/singer? Yes. Have you ever worn a tie? No. Have you ever made dinner for someone? No, cause I don’t cook. Do you only listen to your muisc loud? No. I like to listen to it at a comfortable level. It varies, but never super loud.
“my give a damn’s busted”
Have you ever taken drama class? I actually did take two drama classes in community college. :O Shocking, I know. Have you ever rode a mechanical bull? Nooo. That would be very dangerous for me to do and I’d never even attempt it. Have you ever played on a basketball team? No. Ever stayed in a motel? Yes. What number was your jersey in high school? I didn’t have a jersey, I didn’t play any sports. Have you ever choked on something? Yes. I had one really traumatic experience that changed how I take my medicine ever since. That happened almost 10 years ago now, but ever since I’ve had to crush my pills. When I tried taking pills again not long after it happened, it literally felt like my throat was closing up every time and I was terrified of it getting lodged again. That day was really scary, my dad literally almost had to put his finger down my throat. Do you wear a belt? Nope, I only ever wear leggings. I’ve actually never worn a belt before, though. Do you have a rug in your room? No. Do you go camping during the summer? Nope. I have no interest at all in doing that. Do you carry a purse everywhere you go? Not anymore, but I used to. In most recent years it was a mini backpack. Where's your favorite place to get coffee? Honestly, I’m a basic bitch and just go to Starbucks, ha. It’s nearby and convenient and yeah. Plus, people hate on it but I actually like it. *shrug* I get really into it when they come out with their winter drinks, like they have now. I wish we had a Tim Hortons so I can see what that hype is all about. What's the last time you searched on Google? When’s the last time I searched on Google? Earlier. Which of these singers have the best voice: Katy Perry or Usher? I think they both sing well. They’re very different, you can’t really compare. What food is your weakness? Boneless garlic parm and lemon pepper wings from Wingstop. How many unread emails do you have right now? I don’t feel like checking at the moment.

5.17 The Supremes
Episode:
• alright, everyone seems to looove this episode. and I’m not sure if it’s cause it’s a really good episode, or cause its a good episode that seems 100x better because the majority of season 5 isn’t well liked. I remember liking the episode, but I don’t remember it being amazing.
• well the cold open was good.
I just don’t get what changed Josh’s mind about Evelyn Baker Lang. Before the meeting, he said she was “too lefty” but then after she called them out in the meeting for only there as “window dressing” Josh was like “Damn maybe we should get her.” Like?
• they sent condolence flowers to Justice Ashland who is very much alive lmaooo
• oh they’re already mentioning the Gaza trip
• “What’s up?”
“We hate Asians.”
“Okay.”
• Rena not correctig Bartlet when he called her the wrong name is so relatable
• I love Toby leaning over CJs desk to try and look at her computer screen
and then when he gets lotion on his hands and sniffs it 😂
• “Well if you were less appealing...”
“Same to you, sir.”
• “I love her. I love her mind. I love her shoes.”
• I also don’t know why Bartlet changed his mind on Lang. In the first meeting with the staff, once he found out she struck down parental consent on abortion, he was like “that’s not gonna happen.” Then later when they all meet again, he’s curious why Josh isn’t considering Lang anymore, but he wasn’t interested in her in the first place. Idk.
• “I like that guy from Florida with the good hairdo, but I wanna retain my right to choose. I’m voting to what’s-his-name, married to Abbey Bartlet.”
• Ah he just wants her on the short list
• oh those are Black Eyed Susan cookies?? I always just called those...peanut butter cookies?
• I just love how Donnas always the one with her crazy stories giving Josh the ideas
• oh my god yeah they get the fucking Chief Justice to resign alsksk
• “I’m taking it to the President.”
“No you’re not. Do not go in there!”
I’m dying I love them
• I love how Josh was talking about cats to Donna and then Debbie goes and sprays him like a cat. And Toby’s reaction 😂
• ah the ol reminder that Toby’s an absentee father 🙃
• man that whole scene with CJ and Josh in her office was so good. CJ laughing, Josh hiding from Toby, CJ laughing at Josh hiding from Toby...
and then Toby comes in
“Is she stoned?”
• they have to convince Ryan’s uncle?? Eww
• I like when Toby goes in to tell Bartlet about Christopher Mulready, they chose to shoot the scene of Debbie outside at her desk when Bartlet explodes.
• “Oh my god, you’re putting my mother’s cats on the Supreme Court.”
• it’s funny cause the actor playing Christopher Mulready plays Allison Janney’s boyfriend on Mom
• Josh is trashed alsksks
• “Josh Lyman is gesticulating wildly.”
• CJ IS DRUNKINGLY SINGING
• well they all sobered up quickly
• Evelyn Baker Lang signing the 14th amendment for Toby’s daughter I’m :’))))
• Charlie talking to Mulready about affirmative action
• ah god this whole thing’s so unrealistic but I LOVE IT I’m crying in the club right now
• ok I take back my first paragraph. This is an amazing episode.
Podcast:
• guest star: Debora Cahn (writer of the episode)
• The inspiration (or base?) for the plot was based on the relationship between Supreme Court Justices RBG and Scalia. While both were idealogically at the opposite ends of the spectrum, RBG being a staunch liberal and Scalia being a staunch conservative, they maintained a close friendship, “going to the opera together, and enjoying each other’s company so much and enjoying arguing with each other so much, as we’ve learned recently, drinking together a lot.”
• They considered getting Susan Surandon for the role, but she wasn’t available.
• CJ was supposed to be IM-ing Ben, but they couldn’t get permission to use the AOL bleep sound. (I’m gonna expose myself now and say I don’t know what they’re talking about, and I don’t know if it’s cause I’m too young or because I just never IM’d people.)
• Glenn Close struggled with her lines, (apparently a lot of great actors who come on this show do because they’re intimidated, struggling to catch up, etc) so it took a longer time to get through the takes. They also spent time lighting her differently. This caused them to go 3 1/2 hours over schedule.
On that day they shot three scenes, two of which were Glenn Close’s scenes with Josh and Toby in the Roosevelt Room. The other one was with Allison Janney in CJs office, when she finds out Evelyn Lang had an abortion and she tells Josh and Toby they can’t nominate Lang, to get her out of the building, etc. Allison had the stomach flu and a 103° fever that day, and spent the extra 3 hours throwing up in her trailer. When it was time for her to do her scene, she came out of her trailer and did it in one take.
...I do not understand how. I had a mild fever the other day and getting out of bed was hard enough. I had the stomach flu once and thought I was dying.
• Aw Allison Janney’s mother would bake cookies and send them to the set, so that’s where the cookie plot came from. I wonder if those were Allison Janney’s moms cookies in the episode lol
• yes I’m glad Josh caught the other cat callback to Josh (Lyman) being sprayed in the face with the water bottle
• It was discussed if mentioning/bringing in Mendoza added value to the story. Debora doesn’t completely remember but thinks there were some attempts to bring it in but it just didn’t seem all that germane.
• Richard Schiff and William Fitchner (Christopher Mulready) were excited to be in a room with each other.
“ That they were both really respectful of each other, and at a certain point Jessica (the director) walked over to Bill and whispered in his ear, “You’re a lot smarter than this guy. And that’s something that we almost never see on the series. You’re smarter than him, and you know it. And this conversation takes about 4% of your brain, and it takes about 80% of his.”

Survivor Winners at War Ep 12 Recap
We’re getting close to the end! In this episode, man I knew I shouldn’t have manifested anything, look what happened now...
So after the Sophie vote, Tony’s got some explaining and damage control to do. And oh my god, I love how the episode starts with Sarah on her confessional going “Ok Sarah, be calm, don’t blow up”, and then THIS
Tumblr media
I feel the italianness to my bones.
And I really love to see these two together cause aaaaa they’re just so good. Cause like, Tony very much took out one of Sarah’s closest allies in Sophie, but he really managed to make her feel safe and secure and like they still have a trusting bond (which, they very much do!). And as for Sarah, yeah she can scream at him but she was like “I’ll be with you, until I’m sunk and then I’ll sink you too, no mercy” WHICH IS GREAT, cause she can very much benefit from their mutual partnership!
UGH THEY0RE BOTH JUST SO GOOD I LOVE THEM.
And then Tony goes to calm down Ben which ALSO WORKS, although Ben is still very much not wanting to talk to Jeremy. Also Tony gets pooped on by a bird. They are in the jungle, after all.
Because everything is wonderful, we get more Crazy Tony stuff, and after a quick recap of THE SPY SHACK and THE SPY BUNKER (rip) we see the birth of THE SPY NEST.
And god, did I mention how much I love the Tony and Sarah buddy cop partnership?
Tumblr media
Can y’all spot Tony? Where could he be!
(Also Sarah saying “if Tony was my partner in real life, one of us would get fired.” Please, I need Sarah and Tony buddy cop comedy PLEASE).
In other news, Miss Kim planted the idea of getting rid of Tony, which...is a very sound idea, considering the dude is doing really well. He does have an idol, but you can always hope to blindside him, and now could be a good time...
Back in Depression Island, it’s Log Challenge 2: Electric Boogalo, coconut edition! Y’all remember the one where they had to bring back a bunch of logs one at a time? Well, they gotta do that again! But with coconuts! Oh, and only the first six actually get tokens. Time to go!
Tumblr media
Adam is such a mood. Also, love how even in EoE, the show is like we WILL keep making fun of Adam, bet on it dfjkdfhkdj (him getting lapped, and then seeing Wendell jump from rock to rock and going “huh?? how did you do that?? dkfjhdkh relatable king).
Natalie is being a total Queen, and everyone is like “yo Natalie is killing it” which SHE IS. Then people get injured, too, which scared the CRAP out of me like PLEASE ROB AND DANNI DON’T DIE HERE.
In the end, the placements are Natalie, Sophie, Yul, Parv and Tyson, and Wendell, all with tokens (also then Rob went and tried to complete the challenge, even when it was over, which...I mean good for you dude, but don’t tire yourself over nothing! Save energy for the challenge!)
Back in the game, it’s idol hunting for everyone, now that Sophie’s idol is back in play. Ben and Tony are kind of searching together, and Ben finds the idol and...tries to hide it really obviously, to which Tony is like “dude, I’m right here I can see you lmao” which KDHGKHDKFHDK I love him a lot.
So yeah, Ben gets the idol and is trying to put Tony at ease, cause everyone wants Tony out right now. Also we get this:
Tumblr media
aber, bézense :)
Now it’s challenge time--the good ole classic “stand with your arm chained to a rope tied to a bucket full of water” but with a twist of standing on a narrow beam--and.........sigh.......I have issues.
So, there were two immunity necklaces, one for the last woman, and one for the last man. Obviously everyone wants to vote for Tony (at least the vast majority), so you gotta make sure he doesn’t lose, right?
But then what happens is that Jeff comes out with cookies and peanut butter...and all hell breaks loose. First Michele stands down, ok whatever, BUT THEN...KIM STANDS DOWN AS WELL? KIM!? That makes Denise win immunity cause Sarah was out, but KIM...you’re putting together the plan, you’re a Big Threat in everyone’s book...WHY THE HELL ARE YOU DOING THIS?
AND THAT’S NOT ALL. Then Nick tells Tony that he’ll let him win if he gives him one token, and when Tony says yes HE STEPS DOWN, TOO!? FOR FUCKING COOKIES!? WHAT THE HELL ARE Y’ALL DOING!?
So yeah, Tony challenge beast confirmed, y’all are fucking stupid lmao.
People are now trying to go for the second plan, aka Jeremy, but Ben goes and snitches on Tony about them trying to blindside him, and he goes and confronts Nick which dfjkdhkj MAN IT’S SO OBVIOUS. But yeah, Tony finds out it was Kim that tried to bring together the plan, so he goes after her.
BUT he has to try to convince Ben, which is SO deadset on Jeremy, but DAMN HE FUCKING DOES SUCH A GREAT JOB. It’s still like oh which way will they go? But it’s could happen...
And then...Michele gives Jeremy her 50/50 coin? I’m...? What? I mean yeah, he’s your ally, but you’re gonna VOTE FOR HIM AS WELL? To vote with the “majority”? Girlie, Idk...
Then it’s TC time, and I love how when they mention that Kim, Michele and Nick all dropped out for cookies, Parv is like:
Tumblr media
LITERALLY ALL OF US AT HOME WATCHING. WTF.
And then it’s...well, it’s a whisperfest again, VERY chaotic, very convoluted and confusing...but there were more subtitles with time! Yay!
(Also Denise being done like OK FUCK IT LET’S VOTE WHATEVER jkdfhdkjfh mood)
When it’s time, Jeff goes “Anyone wants to play anything do it now or find out”, and OH SHIT, first Tony says “Wait a minute Jeff”, and then he’s almost gonna play it for Sarah but she goes “No dude, don’t do it” and AAAAAAAAAAA HOW BALLSY (I guess you gotta trust your alliance, but AAAA SARAH DON’T SACRE ME LIKE THAT).
And then Jeremy ALMOSTTT playing the 50/50 but ALSO not doing it, and in the end THEY WERE ALL RIGHT, cause Kim got voted out. And listen, I’m SO SAD I love Kim to pieces, she’s so hot, but either Tony or Kim was gonna lose this episode, Tony was immune and it ended up being Kim. At least it was entertaining.

(I wrote this email to my grandmother, aunt, and uncle last week and felt pretty good with how it turned out so decided to publish it here.)

Coucou !
I’ve been wanting to write you for a while now, I even started a draft and wrote about ¾’s of it, had to stop to make dinner, and then never finished it. Maybe I was overthinking how I wanted to get the writing perfect when I should’ve just sent something to say hello, give you an update, and check-in that all was well with you. Mieux vaut tard que jamais.
How to describe everything and nothing that has happened since mid-March? Both on a personal level and on a “what’s the situation in France” level?
Personally, I’ve been cooking, both familiar recipes, and trying new ones such as Chickpea Curry, Mushroom-Stuffed Eggplant, One-Pan Wine Braised Chicken with Artichoke Hearts, Shakshuka, Spanish Tortilla, Roasted Red Pepper Cheese Toast, Peanut Butter Chile Sauce drizzled over broccoli and rice, Butternut Squash & Shallot Hash w/Poached Eggs, and a couple others. Let me admit, some were successes, others...will have to be adjusted and reattempted. Not to mention there are days when not having a dishwasher gets to be exhausting.
I still have multiple school projects that I have been working on, both group and individual. My classes were already supposed to end mid-April even before this all started, so it didn’t change much and most classes didn’t have any online classes, as the projects were more important and already put in place. I have three more to turn in before grades are due mid-May, and now the first part of my thesis is due one month later, at the end of June. Productivity has been difficult, as there are days that I feel like I need to do things for me, rather than sitting on my computer switching between reading the news and trying to do school work, but I’ve gotten a little better at it. My job, checking guests into apartments, and working in the office, is obviously non-existent, and likely will be until at least September, but because of the government's chômage partiel or temporary/partial unemployment of over 10 million people in France, I’m still getting 90% of my salary, which I am very thankful for.
What I have been doing for pleasure these days is listening to podcasts, my favorite being Spilled Milk, which I discovered in September when I was doing the grape harvest, a comedy show about food recorded in Seattle. I was taking a photograph or two a day with my dad’s 1984 Minolta 35mm film camera but ran out of film and can’t find a viable way to get more. I’ve been reading every day, finished two books so far, and have started a third. We’ve been watching movies and TV shows, such as Breaking Bad, the Jason Bourne trilogies, Charade, Star Wars, and others I’ve put off watching until now. Something I never thought I would do was a virtual dance/fitness classes but they have been a great source of dopamine and just physical movement. There are also weekly video chats with either Benjamin or I’s friends, which has been especially nice when we can reunite multiple time zones all in one call. My friend that works at Politico’s audio department asked if I’d be interested in recording an audio-diary twice a week as part of a project they’re working on of different people’s experiences during lockdown so I’ve been contributing to that (though not sure what’s become of the project so far). The most coincidental thing that has happened to me during confinement is changing the channel on the TV maybe the second week into the lockdown, as the Prime Minister’s press conference was ending (otherwise we hardly ever watch the TV), to a different channel only to see someone that looked vaguely familiar, and then see the street we live on. We soon figured out the people across the street we had seen filming once or twice were making a documentary on the lockdown. I contacted them after we finished watching the episode and they asked if I was interested in being interviewed. So that happened, haha. I don’t believe it’s possible to stream the episode outside of Europe so I’ve included the video here, it’s in English.
There are of course the daily musings outside the window to see what the neighbors across the street are doing or what is happening on the street below. Avenue de Saint-Ouen has calmed since this all began but it still is busier than I would’ve expected, both with cars and people, not resembling photos you may have seen of an eerily empty Paris. Sundays are the exception, when I can almost clearly hear what someone is saying on their balcony across the way, where the joggers' loud steps hitting the pavement echoes as they try to reach home before their 10am curfew, and the church bells ring telling us the time. The typical characters I can see on their balconies every day include the bald man that drinks his cup of coffee while smoking his morning cigarette, the retired man on the top floor that tends to his potted herbs that dangle over the balcony railing, or his neighbors that have two young boys that run back and forth. The weather has been clearer than any Parisian spring I’ve seen and the temperatures even got to the high 70’s last week but have now dropped and the clouds are back. We are allowed to walk for up to one hour within a 1km radius of our address, as long as we have a form, now available to download on our phones, filled out, otherwise there can be fines, though I have only seen police officers stop people twice.
So what is the situation in France right now? As of Thursday night, 24,376 people have died from Covid-19 in France, 26,283 people are currently hospitalized (551 less than the day before) and 4,019 are in the ICU (188 less than the day before). On May 11th, the lockdown will be lifted to a certain extent, but many restrictions will still be in place. Starting May 7th each département, kind of like a county, will either be classified red or green, depending on multiple factors, and this can change the severity of the rules after May 11th. Preschools, elementary schools, and daycares can reopen, on a voluntary basis by each family, so those in need that cannot do online learning and depend on the meals can return to school under certain hygiene measures. Public transportation will increase slightly but not back to the normal frequency, masks will be obligatory, every other seat must be left empty, employeurs are encouraged the adjust hours of employees that have to return to work to avoid rush hour, and that those not commuting to and from work should avoid public transportation during these hours. We will be able to leave the house without filling out a form, as long as it’s less than 100km from our address. Farther than this (62 miles) we will need to have a legitimate reason, such as professional or imperative family needs. No meetings, private or public, of more than ten people. Individual sports any time of day (currently in Paris jogging isn’t permitted between 10am and 7pm) but no team sports. Libraries and small museums may reopen while abiding by hygiene procedures. Parks may reopen but if considered dangerous, such as in Paris, they may remain closed. Most businesses can reopen, except restaurants, bars, cafés, large museums, movie theaters, concert venues, or theaters, while controlling the number of people in the business and customers may be turned away if they aren’t wearing a mask. Farmers markets may reopen as well. Malls may or may not reopen, depending on their size. Working from home is still strongly encouraged. The government hopes to test 700,000 people a week, though who can get tested isn’t clear. If you test positive you must self isolate for 14 days either at your residence or an allocated hotel, and teams of people will attempt to get in contact with those who may have been infected by said persons to get tested. An app is also in development to track this but is also highly controversial and will have to be voted on by parliament. Masks will be distributed by employeurs, by schools, to nonprofits for those in need, social action centers, and La Poste has set up a website where they can be bought, the government paying for part of the costs. The second phase in which things could change is June 2nd.
Voilà, I think that’s everything. I would love to hear from you when you can write back. Miss you and thinking of you.
Love,
Melissa

Eli Lambie: It’s the Smiles That Measure His Success
Tumblr media
He was 15 years old – and looked maybe 12 – when he timidly introduced himself to live music fans throughout the Upper Ohio Valley, and that’s because he had decided he was ready to perform in from of more people than his family, friends, and his classmates at Wheeling Park High. His name? Eli Lambie … and wow, one must ask themselves, who does the kid look like? Since then, Lambie has performed the platinum tunes from back in the 1960s-70s, he’s composed and performed classical arrangements with the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, and while it has always seemed he can play every existing instrument, he has fine-tuned his vocals to “Wow, who’s that?” levels. Now, Eli is an award-winning music educator in Marshall County that parents feel lucky to have in their school district. It was his peers and administrators who voted for him to receive the 2023 Society for General Music Teacher of the Year, and he’s been the music teacher at Washington Lands Elementary for the past five years. It did not take that long, though, for Lambie to reach a different milestone, one connected with his career as a live performer and as a band leader here in the Upper Ohio Valley and beyond. For a few years after emerging onto the live and local music scene in the Wheeling area, Eli was a piece of someone else’s orchestra, but now he’s the conductor of his very own, Eli and the Mojo Kings. THAT’S IT! Right? You’ve got it! That’s when it finally comes to you! The look-alike! It’s that movie actor, the one from Spider-Man and The Lighthouse, Aquaman, and Platoon … that Willem Dafoe … that’s who looks just like Eli Lambi. Wow, lucky actor ... lucky Uncle Willem, that is. Lambie has been the featured performer with the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra. What do you cook really well and how do you know you do? I wish I could say I cooked something well, but I am an awful cook. Here’s a brief anecdote to sum up my abilities as a chef; When I was a kid, I followed my mother’s cookie recipe while I was at home on a snow day. I used confectioners’ sugar instead of flour and…. well… you can imagine how that turned out. Today, I take great pride in my ability to make a mean peanut butter and jelly sandwich on an English muffin. I’m fortunate to have a family and friend network of fantastic cooks, and I eat very well when I’m on the road for shows. If I’m invited to a dinner and need to bring something, I’m bringing the wine! (I’m known for always bringing great wine to dinner parties thanks to Corey at Casa di Vino in Center Market.) What musical genre do you prefer the most, and why? I don’t have a single genre that I prefer most. My tastes are always changing, and I go through phases of playing and listening to different types of music. One genre I always seem to come back to is classical music. I love listening to Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Liszt, and other Romantic period composers. Their music is timeless, elegant, and beautiful. Eli and the Mojo Kings play several gigs each year in the Wheeling area, but they perform outside the area as well. For what reasons did you form the Mojo Kings, and do you feel the band has been as successful as you thought it would be? As a young musician, I had the honor of playing with many talented artists. I enjoyed being a part of their projects, but I was ready to start my own. Our valley is saturated with talented musicians, and I’m fortunate to have eight outstanding musicians in my group. Success is difficult to measure, and there is always room for growth. I don’t know if I knew exactly what to expect going into the Mojo Kings, but I have really enjoyed how the journey has unfolded for us thus far. I am proud to say that we have brought happiness to a lot of people through our music. The group gets better and better every year, and I can’t wait to see where our journey takes us next. Why do you believe you’ve experienced so much success as a music educator? When I was in school, I had many tremendous music educators that inspired me to pursue music. They modeled how bringing the gift of music to their students can change their lives for the better. Without their positive example, I wouldn’t be the teacher I am today. I love what I do. Making music with my students brings me great joy. We are always singing, dancing, moving, and playing instruments. Keeping students engaged in class helps them to grow a love and passion for music. When I was in school, I was not the easiest student. I was creative, off the walls, and always thinking/acting outside of the box. These quirks have become an asset in my teaching. My wild lessons use music to take students everywhere. When students enter my room, they never know where they’re going to end up. We could end up in a foreign country, on the face of the moon, or in the middle of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. When students leave my room, they leave with smiles on their faces, a greater sense of connection to the world and the people around them, and a love of music. Eli enjoys collecting cool cars when he's not creating original music. If you could play one role your uncle has played in a movie, what role would it be? I don’t think my acting skills would ever come close to measuring up to my Uncle Willem’s. If I could do anything, I’d love to write the film score for one of his movies. I love writing for orchestra and believe that great music can make or break a movie. Read the full article

[Religion & Politics]
I was raised Christian. I hate politics more than anything.
[Food]
I honestly never stop eating.
[Sex, Love & Relationships]
I’ve been told that I was a nine out of ten at giving head.
[Music]
I download my music from LimeWire. I love country. I love old school rap. I love alternative. I have All Time Low’s new CD Nothing Personal.  And I love it. I love to sing, but I suck horribly at it. I cannot play a musical instrument. I want to learn to play the drums. I used to take piano lessons.
[School]
My GPA is between 2.0 and 3.0.
[Beauty & Hygiene]
I straighten my hair often.
[Smoking, Drinking & Drugs]
I smoke cigarettes.
[Random]
My nails are pink right now.
My keyboard is black. I get frequent headaches. I can play a little piano. My boyfriend drives an Asian car. And so do I.

The Art of Living Plant-based
Something you may not know about me, most likely because I don't tend to talk about it unless necessary, is that I eat a plant based diet and try to live as vegan as possible. When I was in university, I made the choice to start eating a vegetarian diet. I think at the time it was mostly for financial reasons (still living that poor student life, ayyy) although I was also learning more about animal rights. I realised that the most powerful thing I, as a nondescript and (mostly) insignificant human, could do was to choose what I spend my money on and 'vote with my money' as it were. I've never been naive of the connection between what was on my plate and the animals I saw everyday in the countryside, however, I no longer wanted to support those industries that exploit and make commodities of animals for financial profit. Animals are living, breathing, conscious beings and they should in no way be thought of as a commodity to have ownership of, so I stopped eating meat.
And then, exactly one year ago, I stopped eating dairy and eggs. Cheese and eggs were the hardest things to stop eating but I am an all or nothing kind of person and once I had made the emotional connection between the food and the animals suffering they never tasted that good any more. I also really enjoy feeling like a rebel, in the most ridiculous and tiny ways possible so if I think of my purchase as supporting arrogant, rich arseholes to continue being dickheads then I immediately change my purchasing practice. As a whole, I didn't find dairy difficult to stop eating, my sister has been allergic to dairy since she was a baby so I grew up on dairy alternatives and label checking. After I had stopped eating dairy, I did continue to eat eggs for a few weeks but we just stopped buying them so I stopped eating them. One of the best things that I've experienced since I've been vegan is that my eczema is so much better, I no longer get massive flare ups, sore red patches or extensive dry skin! I don't have to put eczema creams on everyday anymore, and mostly just use a moisturiser. Its actually a massive relief to no longer constantly think about my skin.
It's kind of strange to think that I've been vegan for a year now. I definitely never thought that I would ever go plant-based, but I love it and wouldn't live any other way now. I completely avoid anything with animal products in and I try to avoid products and brands that are tested on animals as much as possible, however, our budget does sometimes restrict our choices. I think what a lot of people say is true: once you align your lifestyle with your morals you live far more mindfully and often can't help but avoid products that cause suffering. Veganism is so important for any chance of saving the planet; the leading cause of deforestation, resource use and harmful gas production is animal agriculture.
Here's some tips I have learnt over the past year:
eat the same food and meals you have always loved to eat - just find a vegan alternative or a plant based way of making your favourite food
learn how to skim-read labels - most allergens are in bold such as MILK, EGGS, BUTTER, ETC, but remember to check for other animal based ingredients such as gelatin, whey and stock, etc
teach yourself some core recipes that you love to eat, off by heart, so you don't need to constantly check recipes every time you cook
some meals can have the exact same ingredients but if you change the herbs and spices its a totally different meal - i.e. bolognese and chilli
mushrooms
grate courgette and/or carrots to bulk up your (previously) mince based recipes
nutritional yeast and liquid smoke are literal game changers
people aren't as negative and judge-mental as you think - especially in restaurants and cafes, veganism is more widely known as a dietary option now and it is okay to ask to make sure your meal is vegan. I've been in cafes were the menu items were only vegetarian at best but on asking the waiting staff if the cook would be able to not include the cheese I've been told "Of course! The cook is vegan too, let me go check with them, they might have something they could substitute in the back!"
veggie haggis is delicious
Here are some of my favourite recipes:
Rosemary Focaccia
Mushroom Rolls
Lentil Ragu
