Honey
My very late entry to day two of @jaeheeweek22‘s event!
Tumblr media
You’ve only just moved into Jaehee’s apartment. The last box hasn’t even been unpacked yet, it has just been sitting in the living room, waiting to be remembered. Your excuse is that you’re too busy to do it. The truth is that you want this new feeling to last. You want the last box to be memorable, you want to make the last thing you unpack special, you’re just not sure how to do it yet. You want to remember the very moment her space became your shared space.
You have loved every moment of living with her so far. You love waking up next to her and finding that she has tucked herself up against you and nestled her head in the crook of your neck. You love that you no longer have to get dressed and leave at night, but that you can leave your clothes exactly where she dropped them and worry about it tomorrow instead. You love that this feels more like home than anywhere else ever has.
You have also enjoyed learning about her little routines. Each day might be a little bit different from the last, but she always starts her morning the same. After her alarm clock goes off, she shuffles off to the kitchen to make her first cup of coffee. She does it by muscle memory, eyes barely open, but it’s somehow still perfect every time. Until that little ritual is done, she won’t hear or remember anything you tell her (you’ve learned from experience). After her first sip, she will open her eyes properly and focus on you, though she won’t offer more than sleepy halfhearted answers to anything you ask.
You like to think that your moving in has had a positive influence on her. She goes to bed at reasonable times (mostly), and has swapped out coffee for tea in the evenings. Her research for the café along with your encouragement have opened her eyes to the wide world of teas. She has a small collection of herbal teabags that she likes to try out, and when she spots a flavour she hasn’t tried yet at the supermarket, she will point it out excitedly and insist on getting it (even though there are still unopened boxes in the cabinet).
Making tea is a ritual too, just like in the morning with her coffee. After you return home from work and get comfortable, you pick out a flavour of tea to try out that night. You read the label out loud for her so she can give her input, and as the water boils, you measure out a teaspoon of honey for each mug.
This is usually when she will join you in the kitchen and take the teaspoon from your hand. You’ve only recently learned of this little quirk of hers, but she always likes to finish whatever is left of the honey on the teaspoon. She watches you finish off the tea with the spoon in her mouth, already anticipating snuggling up on the sofa with you with your hot drinks.
Before you hand her her mug, you always lean in to kiss her, and you relish the sweetness that lingers on her lips.
You could do this forever.

Mystictober 2022 | Day 12 - Tea time
Summary: Plans get changed because of the bad weather.
But it's really no loss ending up at a tea house of all places.
─────◇◇◇★◇◇◇─────
The rain ricocheted off the window; the raindrops chasing down the pane as if it were their own little race. Due to the weather, your original plan fell through. When the fair in the city center opened it started pouring heavily shortly afterwards.
You both sat across from each other, ordering yourselves the best tea available as you accidentally entered a tea house instead of an usual cafe. Not that either of you complained about it; the place inside felt more than just cozy. Especially now with the water coming down.
Jaehee rushed one hand through her brown hair. A little smile plastered on her face while her eyes spoke the eager excitement of testing out the tea available. It's not everyday she ended up in a place like this; neither did it happen to you much. It's an experience for the both of you.
You leaned your chin onto the back of your hand. Having no issue letting your stare wander over her facial expression and features. She's a beautiful woman, it's as good as impossible not to look at her. She didn't seem to mind anyway, good for you then. Not that it's something new in the first place.
She had gotten herself a magazine after entering, just some trivial news about the location and the fashion all around the globe. And yet, despite her only reading a simple magazine, she captured your heart deeply. So deep it made you inhale sharp to cope with her beauty.
“Here, your tea.” The waitress delivered both cups in antique looking porcelain. You liked the flower drawn at the rim most. “Thank you, Miss.”
Jaehee smiled at her and she left, but not without bowing slightly. You both exchanged an amused gaze as you put one hand around the cup. “It's hot, but not burning.” You informed her.
She listened without a doubt; imitating your motion and pushing her fingers through the handle. A pleased sigh falling over her lips. “You're right, it's the perfect temperature.”
You lifted yours first and she's quick to catch up and carefully toast against yours. The two of you fell back into silence, which you both just needed from time to time. Days were full of hectically work or loud people, sitting together like this was nothing but a welcome change in the routine.
The tea surprised you. It's sweet with a bitter touch at the end; the one you ordered definitely bred by hand. The herbs only so much sweetened, allowing it to keep the natural taste. Your beaming eyes found Jaehee who reacted similar to you. She placed down the cup with wide eyes, hand coming to hide her lips.
“This is better than I thought.” She admitted in an obvious manner. You nodded. “Absolutely! And I usually don't drink tea that's made like this.. It's really outstanding.”
She took the cup to reach it across the table. “Here, take a sip.” You felt yourself soften inside whenever she offered you something.
You took a sip; she definitely had more honey in her tea. But the taste of camomile's delightful on your tongue. “It's great. Here, you need to try mine too.” You insisted after giving her back the cup, holding out your own shortly after.
Jaehee accepted and let her lips sink down on the edge of the cup. Why ever you noticed that in such detailed focus. “Hm!” She hummed softly.
“This is great as well. Seems we found a new place to spend the afternoons at.” She brushed your fingertips with her own when giving back the cup of tea, making you blush. “Nothing would make me happier.”

That’s Gonna Scar
Title: That’s Gonna Scar       Day: Febuwhump 2023, Day 5: “That’s Gonna Scar”   Fandom: Mystic Messenger Word Count: 1444   Author: aquietwritingcorner/realitybreakgirl Rating: T   Characters: Jaehee Kang, Zen     Warning: NA     Summary: After Zen jumps in front of an attack to protect Jaehee, Jaehee and MC wait to hear word of him at the hospital. But hospitals were never happy places for Jaehee, and she has to fight off her own anxiety and guilt as she waits to see how injured the star is.   Notes:  I have never written fic for Mystic Messenger before, and it’s been years since I either rped as her or played the game so here’s hoping I do this justice. For the purposes of this story, MC is not dating anyone, but is close friends with all of them. ff.net || AO3

That’s Gonna Scar
“Jaehee—Jaehee look out!”
A push. Stumbling. A flash of white in front of her. Hitting the ground. Looking up to see a fight. Catching a glimpse of red marring skin. Blood hitting the ground. Screams. Lights. Panic.
She moved.
A hand landed on Jaehee’s shoulder, startling her and breaking her out of her thoughts. She looked over to the side to MC see smiling kindly at her. Jaehee blinked, trying to bring herself back out of the recent memory she had been in.
The other woman seemed to sense this and held out a drink to her.  “Tea?”
“Oh—thank you,” Jaehee said, more out of habit than anything. She took the tea, taking a sip of it. It was somehow both bland and bitter, and Jaehee decided she’d be better off just holding the cup in her hands. Perhaps the warmth would help her.
MC sat down beside her, looking up at the TV that was mounted high on the wall of the hospital waiting room. She nodded at it. “It’s all over the news,” she commented, it half sounding like a question.
Jaehee nodded, her heart tightening. “It is,” she said. “On most of the stations. I’ve not looked, but I’m sure it’s all over the fan boards as well.”
“Of course, it is,” MC said. “It’s big news, especially since there’s not been an official release on his state yet.”
Jaehee looked down at the tea she had in her hands, worry clawing at her. She knew how she had last seen him, but some part of her was panicking that it was worse than she thought. “I suppose so. I—” she stopped, not sure what she wanted to say, exactly.
“You what?” MC pressed.
“Nothing,” Jaehee said, giving MC her practiced smile, hiding her thoughts and feelings as best she could.
MC, unfortunately thought, was very astute—especially about her friends. “Jaehee, you’re not blaming yourself for this, are you?”
Jaehee’s chest tightened again, and she wondered if it wouldn’t be better to be drinking the tea. At least then she would have a reason not to answer MC. Instead, she held her silence, trying to figure out what to say.
MC frowned. “You know what happened wasn’t your fault, Jaehee.”
Jaehee’s hands tightened on the cup, a reflection of her feelings. “No, I know that they were the fault of that man. But perhaps if I had been more attentive then Zen wouldn’t have jumped in the way and gotten hurt.” She glanced up at the news, where the newscasters were still reporting on the attack and injury of the popular, upcoming actor. “He’s gaining so much popularity. His career is taking off. If this affects it, I…” Jaehee shook her head.
MC put her hand on Jaehee’s arm, holding it firmly. “Jaehee. It’s not your fault.” Her voice was insistent. “It’s not your fault.”
Jaehee didn’t say anything.
MC sighed, and fell quiet, settling in beside Jaehee.
For the next hour or so, the two women sat there. Jaehee kept her eyes on the news that was playing, steadfastly ignoring her phone. She knew that the chatroom had been active, but she had allowed MC to handle that. Jaehee didn’t want to deal with everyone’s concern—or, perhaps, the blame, even if no one else blamed her but herself.
And maybe Zen.
Jaehee didn’t know.
She hated hospitals. Or, more precisely, she hated being in hospitals. Her experiences with hospitals and being in hospital waiting rooms had not been good ones. Her father’s death. Her mother’s death. A time or two of sickness. Hospitals were where she got bad news, where she had spent time waiting for her world to come crashing down on her.
She didn’t know if she could stand for it to happen again.
“Jaehee Kang?”
A voice called out her name, and Jaehee’s head snapped up, anxiety filling her. A doctor was looking around the waiting room, and Jaehee stood up.
“Yes, here,” she said quickly.
“If you could come with me,” he said. “There is a patient requesting to see you.”
“Yes, of course.”
Jaehee spared a glace towards MC, who just waved her on. She quickly walked towards the doctor, following behind as he led her back through the hospital, towards a more private area. Finally, he stopped a door and gestured for her to go it.
Jaehee pushed it open, anxiety twisting her stomach. She had no idea what she’d find behind this door, and she felt sick just from the possibilities. “Zen?”
Zen looked up at her from where he sat on the bed, not even in a hospital gown and gave her a smile. “Jaehee!”
Jaehee felt both immediate relief that things weren’t worse than they were, and immediate concern. A large cut was stitched up on face, stretching from his forehead, down along the side of his face, to his jawline. She stepped into the room, her eyes glued on it.
Zen frowned a little, his eyes searching her. “Jaehee, are you alright? You weren’t hurt, were you?”
He was worried about her? He was injured and he was worried about her? She stepped forward, her hands clutching together tightly. “That’s going to scar,” she said softly.
He blinked at her, but then gave her a roguish grin. “Yeah, it probably will. But I think a scar will only make me look more dashing, don’t you?”
He struck a pose, and Jaehee knew it was supposed to make her laugh, but all she felt inside was a pit of guilt and shame. She looked down, shamefaced.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “If I had been quicker or had been paying more attention, then you wouldn’t have pushed me out of the way or gotten hurt.”
“Hey—wait, no, Jaehee.” Zen looked startled and reached out, taking her hands. “Jaehee, you didn’t do anything wrong. No one expected a crazy guy like that to come out of nowhere.”
“I should have been more aware,” Jaehee insisted. “Or at least moved quicker. I have training. I should have been able to handle him without the need for you to get involved.”
Zen’s expression turned hard. “When some man goes crazy and begins attacking me without regards to others around, I think I have a right to get involved.”
Jaehee blinked at him, confused. “I’m sorry, I don’t understand.”
Zen shook his head. “I’ve been talking to the police. Apparently, he’s targeting actors and singers. Something about undermining traditions and culture? They’re still looking into it. They say it looks like he would have come after me even if I hadn’t of gotten between you and him. The only difference is that he would have hurt you as well.” Zen paused. “You aren’t hurt, are you?” he asked. “You never answered my question.”
She had a few scrapes and some places that would probably bruise, due to the fact that she jumped into the fight, helping Zen to subdue the man with the knife. However, she had definitely come out on the better end, with Zen taking the most damage.
“I—no,” Jaehee said. “I’m not. Perhaps a bruise or two will show up, but I am not hurt.”
“Good,” Zen said, looking distinctly relieved. He dropped some of the silliness and presentation from his demeanor, turning serious. “Jaehee—look, I just want you to know that you really saved me out there. I might have pushed you out of the way, and gotten this cut, but you stopped him before he could do anything else. Thanks to you, he was subdued and didn’t get the chance to hurt me more than this or hurt anyone else. You jumped in and made sure that everyone was safe, and I can’t thank you enough for that.” He drew her hands up, looking her in the eyes. “You saved me, Jaehee. This cut is well worth the price—even if it scars.”
Jaehee stared at him, eyes wide and breath caught. She hadn’t been expecting this. She gave him a trembling smile back as she felt her eyes start to tear up. “I was only doing the right thing. But… thank you Zen. I was so worried. I’m glad that you’re going to be alright.”
Zen squeezed her hands. “All thanks to you. Jaehee, I couldn’t ask for a better friend.”
“Nor could I,” Jaehee said. “After all, you protected me, too.”
Zen smiled at her, and despite the cut that they both knew would scar, Jaehee couldn’t help the warm feeling that grew in her. Perhaps this was one hospital visit where everything would turn out all right in the end.

Mistletoe
Day one of @jaeheeweek22 ‘s event!
Tumblr media
All that my heart longs for, fulfill
There aren’t words to describe the joy you have found in this new life working alongside Jaehee. Being able to build something new with her has proven to be incredibly fulfilling to both of you. You watch her mood and behaviours change over the months you work together, as she grows comfortable enough to show you her excitable easygoing side. It’s not a surprise to you how hardworking she is, and every day she impresses you with her dedication to this new project. You even found yourself looking forward to late night study sessions with her.
The café has been open for a few months now, and you’ve both been looking forward to the winter season. It’s going to be busier than usual, and it’s a chance to draw in more customers than any other time of year. You’ve spent a lot of time together in her kitchen, testing out (and mostly tasting) new seasonal recipes, flavouring new syrups for coffees and finalizing the winter menu.
Since she was so busy with preparing the baked goods, you took it upon yourself to decorate the café. You bought green leafy garlands to hang across the corners of the room and even repurposed some old decorations you had lying around at home. As a finishing touch, you brought out a surprise decoration. While out shopping, you came across some mistletoe, and it set off an idea in your head that made your heart race.
When the other members asked you, either directly (Seven) or through roundabout means, you were never sure how to answer the question about yours and Jaehee’s relationship. The easy answer, and the one that you mostly give, is that you’re friends and business partners. However, that never feels like enough. You definitely consider her one of your best and closest friends, someone who you trust and frequently rely upon. However, the way your heart races when you make her laugh or the way she makes you feel all fluttery when you see her doesn’t feel like friendship.
You hold hands when you’re walking somewhere by yourselves. She has lost some of her usual composure around you, sometimes even being caught off guard and losing her train of thought. She has started kissing your cheek in greeting. You snuggle during musical marathons.
Perhaps you started as friends, but now there’s no denying that it has grown into something more. The only problem is that you’re not sure how to move on from here.
You’re humming Christmas carols to yourself as you hang up the mistletoe. All these preparations have made you feel more festive than usual, and you’re a ball of anxious energy as you imagine all the scenarios in which you and Jaehee could end up under the mistletoe together.
You finish up the preparations just in time for the Christmas season to begin. Peppermint cappuccinos, thick and warm hot chocolate, special festive latte art, and of course, your decorations are a big hit with your customers. The warm and cosy atmosphere draws them in and your tables are full from opening till closing.
Even your mistletoe is a hit. You’ve spotted more than one couple sharing a kiss in the corner of the room, giggling to themselves. You’re happy that you could have a hand in helping others create romantic memories together, but you haven’t been as lucky.
Jaehee and you work from morning to night serving, cleaning, and baking. You return home exhausted only to do it again the next day. The cafe is never quiet enough for you to have a moment to yourselves, and every day you go home dejected and you fall asleep to flowery scenes where you somehow end up under the mistletoe together.
***
It was a late night at the cafe and you were both cleaning up, anxious to get home and go to bed. Tomorrow, the cafe would be closed and you’d get a chance to sleep in. You were on opposite ends of the room both working towards the middle, both singing along to the closing playlist you had curated.
You’re facing away from her as you wipe down the last table. You can hear her humming, but are so caught up in daydreams of finally reaching your bed that you don’t notice how close she is. Neither does she, apparently, because she sweeps herself right to you. You bump into each other, then turn around to face each other in surprise. You stifle giggles behind your hand, half-delirious with exhaustion, half thrilled to have her this close to you.
“Oh! I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to do that,” she says, bewildered by your reaction.
“It’s okay, you just surprised me,” you reply. “Anyway, I’m all done here. Shall I start closing up?” You make a move to go to the kitchen, but her hand shoots out to hold you in place, broom forgotten.
“Wait.”
She says it with a strange tone you have never heard from her, and it surprises you more than her bumping into you. You take a look at her face again, and she’s wearing an expression you’ve never seen before. She looks almost... shy? She’s blushing furiously, and she opens her mouth to say something, but she remains silent. Instead, she points up at something over your heads.
Oh. You’re standing underneath the mistletoe. You were so distracted that you didn’t even notice.
Your heart starts pounding so hard you’re sure she can hear it. She’s still holding you in place with one hand on your arm, and the warmth from the contact is spreading all across your body. This is your moment, the one you’ve been waiting for since you decorated a few weeks ago.
She finally finds her voice, and asks, “Do you....?”
“Well, it’s tradition after all,” you reply softly, and you can’t help the smile that forms on your face.
You lean towards each other, and your lips meet in the middle. The first kiss is soft, soft lips exploring. Even so, it takes your breath away. She smells like coffee and vanilla, and her mouth on yours feels so unbelievably right. You only pull away for a second to catch your breath before going in for a second, deeper kiss. All the feelings that have been building up inside of you for the past few months all bubble to the surface and you feel electric. You slip your arm around her waist to pull her closer to you, and she wraps her arms around your neck.
You’re not sure how long you spend under the mistletoe, it could be minutes or hours, but when you finally break apart, you feel like the ground under your feet has shifted. You and Jaehee both stare at each other, taking in the look of your blushing faces and wide smiles. You don’t want to let go of each other, so you stay wrapped up in each other.
Everything changes after that night, but really nothing changes at all. This is the way it was always meant to be, you think. You hold hands on the way to work, and she kisses you in greeting (and in passing, and when you’re busy, and when you find a quiet moment). You snuggle together at night and she smiles a special smile just for you when your eyes meet at work.
You thought the joy you felt when starting this project with her was overwhelming, but this new step together has only made everything better. You feel fulfilled in a way you didn’t realise you had been aching for since you met her.
