i love how most recent marvel retcons just felt so fucking dumb and clearly just them trying to make the comics more like the movies in the most fucking boneless way possible that its just annoying and everyone hates it
but this one is different and feels different and everyone I see talking about it loves it and like the key difference here is that 1) its addressing some historical censorship that took place in the writing back in the 80s and kinda reintegrating those original ideas now that they CAN be written without the CCA and certain editors censoring everything and 2) it makes it absolutely canon that Mystique gave herself a dick and came inside a woman

The homophobes/transphobes raging at the latest retcon of Nightcrawler’s origin story is so funny to me. Like- what are you even doing here? You’re complaining about an X-Men book having identity politics??? The series that has been Marvel’s go-to soapbox since the 1960’s?? The series that’s been so ridiculously queer-coded in everything from its conflicts to its character arcs to its goddamn fashion choices for decades??? I’m sorry, did you take a wrong turn and walk into the wrong fandom?
Never mind that having Mystique & Destiny being Kurt’s bio parents was always Chris Claremont’s original intent. Or that their relationship has pretty much always been canon, or that this isn’t even their first time coparenting (albeit poorly, but we love that drama).
You say it’s too convoluted? Ok, and the Azazel retcon wasn’t? Again, it’s X-Men, where convoluted origins and conspiracies reign supreme. You say it conflicts with Kurt’s identity as a man of faith? As if the whole point of his religion wasn’t always to clash with his demonic appearance in order to make the statement that true faith needs to be rooted in love and compassion and not bigotry or an outward show of righteousness? As if the comics have never had Kurt cross paths with far-right Christian nationalists who refused to see him for who he was?
I mean- who’s gonna tell these guys about this classic? Did they think Logurt was a froyo flavor?
In conclusion, I generally don’t like to gatekeep fandom, but omfg these people are such fake fans. As for me, my only issue with the retcon is the reframing of Raven as having wholly loved Kurt & wanted him but she just… misplaced her baby I guess. Like c’mon, guys, we can let Mystique be a messy lesbian AND a shitty baby-yeeting mom, give us that diversity win.

WE WIN!!!!!!
Image Description:
Two pages from X-Men Blue Origins:
Page 1:
Kurt Wagner (as Uncanny Spider-Man) and Raven Darklholme stand in Central Park, NYC together, talking.
Raven: All I ever wanted was longevity, liberty and luxury. What could he offer than I couldn't take for myself? I couldn't understand why Irene encouraged the affair.
Flashback to Raven and Irene in bed naked together, holding each other.
Mystique via narration box: And yet... she had been distracted lately. With a heavy heart, I supposed a separation was coming. The crimson blowhard was her farewell gift. And so I asked her-- with the same bitterness I have always felt when forced to compete with fate--
Mystique: What does tomorrow hold?
Irene: ... I have not had a vision in months. My mind has been eclipsed by... other designs.
Irene sits up.
Irene: I find that I would like to build a family, Raven. I find that I would like to build a family with you.
In the present, Raven sits on the ground in the park.
Raven: ... Th- there were other pregnancies. Other births. Before and after. Accidents. Inconveniences. Tragedies upon revival.
In the flashback, Irene reaches out to hold Raven's face.
Mystique, via narration: But never a child conceived in love.
Raven: You... you want us to...?
Irene: Yes.
Page 2:
The entire page is just one panel. Raven kneels on the ground in the park, tears falling down her smiling face. Kurt stands behind her.
Mystique: So we made a baby together. Just her and me.

OMG BIG NEWS PEOPLE!
Nightcrawler's Origin story was retconned literally yesterday.
AND NOW HIS DAD IS MYSTIQUE AND HIS MUM IS IRENE ADLER! HOLY FUCKING SHIT, OUR OTP HAS A BIOLOGICAL BABY NOW!
They kind of adopted Rogue before, and in X-Men: Evolution Kurt even referred to Rogue as his sister a lot, because they were literally half-siblings kind of, due to Rogue's adoption by Mystique and Irene, but now they're basically full siblings (minus adoption) because now they have THE SAME PARENTS! Not only one parent. BOTH parents!
Mystique is not just a shapeshifter, she is a geneshaper! She rewrites her own DNA every time she shifts, so she is literally able to change her biological sex AT WILL (like some real life animals). And also the backstory for Nightcrawlers abandonment also changed! FOR THE BETTER! Now it's as follows: Mystique put him in an alcove and went to save her wife, because her wife gave birth to "a demon" and was also a lesbian, so there was an angry mob at their house which Raven needed to deal with, but it's a story with a twist! The house is empty, and the alcove is empty. Both wife and kid gone. Irene took Kurt and left him with the circus, because she had some vision or whatever.
And it turns out it's not the first time this origin was created. It was also proposed in the 80's, but Marvel didn't allow it at the time.
I'M SO FUCKING HAPPY, OMG. LESBIANS WIN!

Femslash February, day 4
Homosexual Family: Mystique/Destiny + Rogue and Nightcrawler
I could have chosen a happy family, but it's not my style.
Of course Mystique and Destiny live each other, and I'm happy Mystique recently manages to have her girlfriend resurrected. But I'm talking about the kids here :-)
So, Mystique and Destiny adopted Rogue and raised her, in villainy but with love. When she joined the X-Men (initially because she absorbed some of Carol's heroicness with her powers, then for friendship and conviction) there was so much drama and I love it.
And then we can add the Nightcrawler situation!
He is Mystique's biological son, unlike Rogue (the other parent varies through retcons). Unlike her, he wasn't wanted (the reasons for abandonment vary through retcons)
He has a very complicated, mostly negative, relationship with Mystique (though I think the current arc is trying to mend it) and some very interesting parallels with Rogue, of course.

This week's hyperfixation is X-Men Blue Origins #1, which finally lets Mystique and Destiny be Nightcrawler's biological parents. Is it clear how much Marika cares about the X-Men? Why couldn't Mystique conceive a child? And why would Kurt be surprised by that?
