The Sorrows of Beileira’s Wife - A Timor Lorosa'e folklore
The legend goes: She has a giant husband that was attacked by a snake and she tried to save him but was too late. She buried him in the mountains in pieces and disappear. Every 1000 years she would reappear in the night under the light of the full moon and scream his name into the sky while striking the ground with his sword to reassemble him so he can be with her for just one night until they disappear at dawn.
Have you ever heard of the Cuckoo Pint? 🌿 This plant is native to Europe and Asia and has a fascinating origin story behind its name. The "cuckoo" part comes from the fact that it typically blooms around the same time as the arrival of cuckoo birds in the spring, while the "pint" refers to the plant's unusual shape, which resembles a pointed cone or cone-shaped drinking vessel. 🍻 Beyond its name, the Cuckoo Pint is also known for its unique appearance, with distinctive arrow-shaped leaves and a striking spadix (flower spike) that is often bright green or purple. But beware - this plant is also known for its toxicity, with all parts of the plant containing calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation and swelling of the mouth and throat if ingested. Despite its poisonous properties, the Cuckoo Pint has long been used in traditional medicine to treat a range of ailments, from skin conditions to respiratory problems. It's also been used in folklore and mythology, with some cultures believing that it had the power to ward off evil spirits and protect against witchcraft. So next time you come across a Cuckoo Pint on your nature walk, take a moment to appreciate its unique beauty and the history behind its name! 🌸 #CuckooPint #PlantsofInstagram #NatureLover #FlowerGram #BotanicalBeauty #HerbalRemedies #FolkloreFriday #MythologyMonday #ToxicPlants #WildFlowers https://www.instagram.com/p/Co2fs3jso32/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
I have had a time remembering crap this week. But, I did get a new post on the blog yesterday! Mentioned it on all social but this one. 🤷🏻♀️ oohhh well. Here is quick run down of another Roman deity who much like others was borrowed #iykyk Yesterday was #mythicmonday and well decided to talk about Mithras. Interesting god he is that Mithras or Mithra. Was born on the 25th of December in a cave and was the son (in some legends) of a virgin. He was a solar deity and often he is reluctantly sacrificing a white bull who becomes the moon. This god was one that was invoked pre-Rome for contracts and other legal matters or justice. The Mitanni and Hittites for example there was a cuneiform contract between the two and Mithra was invoked in that contract. And in Rome he was a god of the soldiers. Mithraism was for dudes only, no ladies. A god of war, justice, contracts, and loyalty to Roman emperor. That is, until good old Constantine 💁🏻♀️ Interesting stuff history and mythology right? #mythology #mythologymonday #historymemes #mithras #mithra #ancientrome #ancienthistory #degreelesshistorian https://www.instagram.com/p/ClkO9SRr0El/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

In Greek mythology, Hera was the daughter of Cronus and Rhea, and mother of Ares (god of war), Hebe (goddess of youth), and Eileithyia (goddess of childbirth), all with Zeus. Hera also gave birth alone to Hephaistos (god of metallurgy) in retaliation for Zeus’ similarly single-handed birth of Athena. However, Hera threw Hephaistos from Mount Olympus because of his ugliness, and crashing to earth, the god became lame. In other accounts, Hephaistos was thrown from the heavens by Zeus precisely because of his lameness. In any case, Hephaistos held a grudge against his mother and even imprisoned her in a special throne. Hera was only released from the device by promising her son the hand of Aphrodite in marriage.

My buddy, Vic, and I are starting a new 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons (“4e”) campaign for which we’ll be alternating as dungeon masters. The campaign will be set in a game world of our own creation called Baledaar (BA-leh-dar). I spent all weekend entering the cosmology into Masterplan. Doing so required that I fill in some (not all) of…
