De LP van de Week was het deze week 40 jaar oude album 'N.E.W.S.' van Golden Earring. De DisCovered was naar aanleiding van de nieuwe film over Bob Marley. De Filmplaat daarentegen was een nummer waar ik eigenlijk het niet zo op heb, maar omdat de zanger in kwestie jarig was, maakte ik maar een uitzondering.

N.E.W.S.

One of my favorite albums by Prince is N.E.W.S. It consists of four instrumental songs: North, East, West, South. I am listening to it now. What if the word news had nothing to do with newness, thus time, but everything with space, thus spot.

            I guess things are happening. But I can’t tell you what is happening cause my emotions don’t exists an inch outside my body. Naming them makes them have to move through my mouth or fingers. Lethologica? I see people wearing their emotions as outer garments. As thick layers on top of them, including their mouth, which moves naturally towards the direction they kind of want to go.

            The other day I found a piece of paper with some words and corresponding page numbers. It was housing itself in my stack of other papers. This one was grey, around A6 size, the words interesting enough to save it. Today I decided to search for the book that would match these left-behind words. The last note ‘become a rankling rumbling, a summons to a newly senseless world’ would be on page 230. No thinner, no tiny. I looked in Emezi, but not Emezi. I looked in Tokarczuk, it was Olga Tokarczuk, Flights. I read it last summer, it makes sense, the handwritting was still sort of fresh. And there I re-found ‘lethologica’: the state of being unable to recall the word you are looking for.

            Though I think I’m not recalling just searching. In winter days, the space between the hips and the ground, which is decreasing every minute, Bones barely having the taste of the filler. Felled in front of many eyes, mostly your belly. Can we frame the form we are having now? I’m tired of meaning. Of meaning in everything. In dissecting every word that happens to fall out of me without any reason at all.

            Prince is getting louder.

Touring with the ‘Heart of a Mother’ album was… a lot. It was intense, it was special, it was fun, it was hard. It was honest, it was rough, it was friendship, it was love.
